do not move those mics finish the medicine okay we'll start with the work session this afternoon you ready I'm ready okay and we have uh Dr calentine giving an update on the social studies curriculum that that the student has chosen and an item that we may look at voting on this evening thank you Dr calentine thank you for having me good evening president Raven members of the board Acting Superintendent Renteria as well as choices tables around here someplace my name is Dr calentine I'm here to share with you the recommendations made by the committee for social studies adoption to be implemented with the 2023-2024 Academic Year this evening I will share with you the process underwent by the committee so that you can have a better idea of how they arrived at their determination this

goes back to fall of 2022 in August of 2022 the committee was formed the members include two instructional coaches the clsd grant coordinator coordinator of innovation and technology and the coordinator of data and assessment we also had an assistant principal that served on the committee as well so a good bulk of our teaching and learning committee was involved in this process and served on the committee our first meeting was held in September of 2022 I believe it was September 14th to be precise at this meeting committee members reviewed the standards the state's evaluation of high quality instructional materials as well as their charge and goals for this work from September 2022 through November 2022 the committee met with all Publishers on the New Mexico ped Publishers list regardless of their ranking Publishers offered a variety

of primary as well as secondary resources a combination of face-to-face as well as online meetings were conducted throughout this process as we met with the following publishers we met with McGraw-Hill cengage educurious sabbis aldorete Garcia the DBQ Project Perfection learning hmh inquire Ed and that totaled nine different publishers when evaluating the resources the following questions were asked of committee members on the form that they completed as they reviewed each one of these presentations they evaluated the available resources from the publisher relevance for students overall satisfaction with the product the content and layout of units of study the level of difficulty in integrating into the current scope and sequence feedback on what the evaluator liked about the products this was an open-ended response for the committee members feedback on any concerns about the product again this

was an open-ended response and any additional concerns or suggestions and again this was open-ended in November of 2022 teachers had the opportunity to go through all of the materials that had been sent to us and shared with us from the publishers this was on November 16 2022 in Building C all publisher materials are on display for teachers to evaluate additionally digital links with demonstrative logging credentials were also provided so teachers could review the online materials all of those digital resources digital textbooks Etc in addition to the tangible resources that were set out over in building C 24 teachers signed in for that event teachers had several weeks to evaluate materials and those that arrived to the walkthroughs were contacted individually afterwards in order to request feedback on the materials that they evaluated we collected a

total of 17 responses from eight teachers and the questions on the form were as follows for teachers we really wanted them to do a deep dive of these resources as they were evaluating them we asked them what grade level did they teach we asked them to describe how much time they spent on social studies in their classroom each week because it does vary from elementary to secondary what is the name of the product you are evaluating how do you believe this product would fit into the daily weekly a lot of time you have available for social studies indicate all available resources for the product that you are evaluating how satisfied are you with the product how relevant and helpful do you think this product would be for your students how would you evaluate the content

and layout of units of study how would you evaluate the level of difficulty in integrating these resources into the current scope and sequence what did you like about the products what concerns did you have about the products what additional questions or concerns do you have about the product and then finally the rankings from New Mexico ped on that particular product in December of 2022 we gave the opportunity as well as teachers to come back for another walk through this was held on December 2nd of 2022 at this time we invited Publishers to come back and be on site just in case anybody had any questions especially for teachers who have been evaluating the materials for some time if they had any individual questions they could go straight to the Publishers represented of themselves and ask

those questions of them we had six individuals that attended that particular Community walk through the invitation flyer with digital links and login credentials were provided on Facebook in the website representatives from cengage hmh McGraw-Hill and savvis attended the event to answer questions the resources did remain up for several several weeks and so over in building C we had all of the workbooks the textbooks the Tes anything that was sent to us and shared with us it was all laid out additionally all of the login credentials they have demo accounts to allow people to go in and review the materials all of those were provided as well and they were also posted on Facebook so if you couldn't attend or you wanted to go back later and start combing through those resources you had the opportunity

to do so in January of 2023 after several weeks of meeting throughout September through December the committee came back together in January and voted to recommend sabbas for a full K-12 adoption at this time as it was the most highly ranked by the committee and had the most available number of products ranked as recommended by New Mexico ped if approved the curricular work will need to be scheduled by the end of this Academic Year in order to plan for implementation in 2023-2024. it's about the process ing or anything I have a question yes ma'am back in the olden days when my kids were in elementary school they invited community members and parents to be part of these committees was that something that you guys did so we we did invite teachers we didn't invite anybody

that wanted to participate to participate and that's why we did the community walk through as well we wanted them to have an opportunity to review all of the resources and ask any questions that they had of us and they did have an opportunity to evaluate any resources that they wanted to so other than the what'd you say 12-2 time that was available for the walkthrough there were other times that people could come look at the materials we left those materials up until probably the end of January that way if anybody contacted me and said I wanted to come back again or could I schedule a walk through and we did it that intentionally because there's always someone that maybe was not able to attend but still wanted to come back for the walk through and

so we wanted to make sure that opportunity was there for them okay so will they when will they have an opportunity to view them now is there going to be another opportunity for the public to look at these materials before we don't have one planned at this time but if if we need to we're most certainly able to do that so how long was it available to the public I mean starting to win like November you said so we had the community walk through on December the second and we left all of those materials out for almost two months and as well as they could look at it online that's correct all of those digital links and resources were shared online as right right that's how I looked at them online um did you have

a lot of community involvement as much as we would have hoped for unfortunately what was the breakdown of teachers you said that there was the 24 teachers who um had looked at the digital links and then 17 gave feedback what was the breakdown of those teachers in regards to like secondary versus Elementary what was do you have that so the feedback I believe that [Music] there was one for middle school and three from the high school that provided feedback for us was that because they didn't want to participate or I'm not really sure why that was the case I believe that I talked to a superintendent from Los Alamos and she actually called in teachers from each grade every single grade and took feedback from them as they went over the requirements for that for

that particular grade and she saw every class K through 12 and turned in those comments that they had so that increased the amount of teachers that had say about it right right no I think that's wonderful and we did invite any teacher I know it is a lot of work to come through those resources to provide feedback and we again we would have liked to have had more teacher feedback but the teachers that did really dig in and do the work they really did take it seriously and we handed out a lot of resources take them back to your classrooms try them out ask any questions that you have we wanted to make sure that we gave everybody plenty of time and that's why we started in August we want it to be open and

transparent and give people plenty of opportunities to provide feedback that's how I access access them Dr calentine I went through the Facebook and then clicked on the public link and you know I'm not a teacher I looked at all of them but I don't know what I'm looking at so so is it imperative that we adopt this today oh I I don't think it's imperative that we adopted today I think we were hoping to have this completed by the end of this Academic Year so that we could give teachers the opportunity to dig in and do the work so that they would be ready to implement by next year part of that is also you know if when there's a timeliness to ordering all of the materials when you're ordering K-12 it's a lot of

material I want to make sure we get it in so it's actually ready for the school year so that's part of the reason we're bringing it now too we want to make sure that not only can we get that stuff but they can do their curricular work this summer when is the deadline for New Mexico do they have a deadline you you adopt the series by this time or the funding I think the expectation is that the standards will be implemented for the 2324 Academic Year okay so what do you think the potential since we're going to have to have a special meeting to adopt the budget that we table this and get some more public participation and some more teacher participation like Carol said and do it in May when we adopt the budget

I guess my question um Miss College Waller would be um are we going to have them look at specifically at the recommendation from you know Savas that that the committee is doing or do we want to have them go back in and look at all the digital components for all of the pieces is that what you would prefer I I I'm just trying to get some clarification because that's a little different Beast then than looking at one piece if they had an opportunity to look at it for two months do how much more time do do we think we're gonna get more particip participation if we open it up I'd rather give the teachers more time to prep uh if if this is what the the teachers recommended and there's no public comment against it

is there no sir and even with the teachers that we talked with in terms of their responses from the teachers those are the ones that I have documented I have in print we did get a lot of verbal feedback from teachers as well and we didn't receive any kind of feedback from anybody Community or otherwise that was negative in any way really towards any of the resources we didn't receive any negative feedback about any of the resources could you give us some insight of maybe some of the overview of what was that feedback was there any like highlights that was a trending theme among any of those I think the biggest theme was they wanted resources that articulated well and so some of the feedback again verbally that we had received was there's some disconnect

sometimes as you're moving from elementary to middle school and so many of them like the idea of a K-12 adoption wherever things you know really aligned together to ensure that by the time students get to high school that they have all of those skills that they need to be successful in those courses so they felt like there was a sense of continuity from grade to grade absolutely okay if I remember right the last time we adopted social studies was 2010 was it is it 13 years ago 11. it's been a long time things have changed a little bit I mean it's we use them for a long time we do uh Dr calentine let's talk about um the elephant in the room let's talk about CRT I know uh it was the direction to make

sure that the publisher was very clear that that our community and our our district needed nothing in the CRT realm and how do we assure that so what was born out of a conversation that one of the representatives did have with a Community member at the walk through the publisher sent us a letter and I have a copy for each of you this evening assuring us that they will not find any of that throughout any of their curriculum and especially the ones that we plan on adopting so I can hand those out to you guys if you would like that would be great okay and is it possible that if this is the one that we do adopt ticket that letter posted online or on Facebook or the website or something like that so that

the community can see that as well absolutely it's important take me thank you Dr calendine I hate to throw this at you you know old people like me recognize McGraw-Hill stuff like that savvis our Texas Arizona are they using them because I've never heard of them before so Savas is the company formerly known as Pearson so it's Pearson okay but they've changed their name to Sabbath and so you'll see on a lot of their documents and materials it'll still say Pearson as they're transitioning over to new materials that have the Sabbath stamp on them so yes it's the company it's kind of a joke formerly known as Pearson I do know that Hobbes and Moriarty have adopted them and I believe Aztec did last week as well so um I think most districts just based

on the feedback that I've received um I don't think they started the work as early as we did and a lot of them are still making those decisions and so we really wanted to make certain that we took our time that we gave everybody opportunities to provide feedback but then again giving teachers time to do that work we thought was really important as well so they can plan and prepare for next year so are these resources available say like if I were a parent of a middle school child and I wanted to look online at the resources that my child is looking at would that be feasible with this absolutely absolutely because you know my my problem with just adopting something is that I was always the kid who read ahead five chapters in the

book because I was bored about what they were teaching because that was a long time ago or you know I already knew those things so I'd be reading ahead and seeing the things that were in the textbook maybe that weren't going to be part of a lesson so that was my issue was that if it is in the book then that would be a potential problem sure sure and and again you know we can make sure that all of those those items are open and available they did send us a lot of copies of pretty much everything that they had and I believe when you go through the digital leaks you can review all of those as well so and if for some reason they're not working let me know I guarantee you they'll make

sure that they're available wouldn't that be just lovely if parents would get involved and really get in and go through those those books and we could all learn something I was curious to your question Amber when you asked about Texas um because usually you know a lot of times Texas sets the the bar you know if Texas goes for it New Mexico often does Texas doesn't adopt social studies until 2025. yeah they've decided to put off their adoption so I was uh curious about the Civic section right excuse me excuse right now is civics being taught at the high school um so I believe through the senior level course when they take government I believe that that's when they would be learning about this I think it's a synonymous term okay they call it Carol

I would like to see more Civics in school Carol they call it like it's their history level it's government slash but they include the Civics in the government portion they do a semester of government so yeah semester we've got Civics and semester of government no the government includes the Civics in that semester oh this is quite lengthy performance standards for civic so yes ma'am maybe they all need more time I'm sorry maybe they'll need more time specifics I think it's very important absolutely thank you when you have the teacher feedback um when we're discussing critical race Theory did they have any feedback specific specifically to that did they say this feels fishy or I don't see it at all or was there any feedback from the teachers or the public in regards to this um

this curriculum in in that state not in regards to that so not in regards to any of the resources that were available to them we had one Community member that had some concerns and he wanted to be reassured and um the publisher for this particular company that we're recommending he sat down with that Community member for an hour and reassured him and and showed him evidence and he felt satisfied when he left that all of this was transparent and and um and that he was being honest in Fort Wright with him so so they'll the teachers will still be able to kind of mold it to their own teaching style their lessons you know for example sure I mean yeah go ahead oh I'm sorry um so the standards are consistent the resources are consistent

I mean every teacher has their own Flair and style in the classroom but with anything else that we teach there's always an expectation of professionalism and you know making sure that um you know we're sticking with the standards so then and again it's important to realize that with the states Peds standards and benchmarks those are a guideline and ped does give you the opportunity in social studies because it's not a tested subject gives you the opportunity for communities to understand the mood of their Community the the mindset and to pick your curriculum and set up your instruction as you see fit it's not as you know Carol I know when we printed those out and looked at those standards and benchmarks you know that history in Alamogordo New Mexico is going to be taught very

differently than history in um on the on the Pueblo reservation they're going to be more concerned about things that relate to their to their tribe and into that area than that so I think that's a a wonderful thing that we have the Liberty to do is just use those standards and benchmarks for a scope and sequence type of thing and we have the the opportunity to to teach history correctly correctly like it's supposed to be so and I think that's really one of the important things to think about when we think about doing that curricular work this summer you know the people that are are setting up that scope and sequence and really thinking about and being mindful of what what does that need to look like for a third grader what does that need

to look like for an eighth grader and and can can mold that curriculum to what's best for our community these are people in our community that are going to be working on it so it is important work so how many how did you pick the Publishers again that the PED recommend these did are these one so New Mexico head has a list of Publishers on their website and we reached out to all of the Publishers because some companies are large companies and they have lots of K-12 resources some of the companies are a little bit smaller and they have some secondary resources but we wanted to give everybody an opportunity and so we reached out to everyone and so we saw some of the bigger companies but we also saw some of the smaller companies

with resources we met with one publisher and and she had a few books that she had published here in the state and thought it might be fun for us to take a look at I actually bought our book because I was so moved by her story and um so we try to give everybody an opportunity and even if they weren't ranked by New Mexico Peds so some of these companies that didn't necessarily have Elementary resources or secondary resources or they just had secondary secondary resources in terms of like a supplemental type of resource rather we tried to give everybody an opportunity to to meet with us so the state gave you a list say of 15 people to choose from and then you whittled that list down to the one that you ultimately chose eventually

yes ma'am you chose the service the committee did the committee yes ma'am and those are those are familiar with you most of those are very familiar names in in uh publishing yes ma'am you heard the so um let's say that um high school we vote on and accept this series um do our teachers have the Liberty to look at something like from the Hillsdale College on a Civics type of lesson do they have the opportunity to I mean that's a free free resource out there do they have the opportunity to to go and pull some of that in and and make a Civics lessons a government Constitution lesson like that I think all teachers pull in other local resources or other resources that they've found um you know that works for them and if we

have some local resources here absolutely I mean that's that's that's one of them teacher hacks we've been doing for a long time pulling in other resources and and you know other things for our kids and with social studies because of where we live there are a lot of local resources that teachers can take advantage of so absolutely okay so you said Hobbs yes ma'am Hobbs Moriarty and I believe Aztec so they were supposed to vote on it last week and it looks like they did it looked like they had a hundred percent of their committee that voted up but I couldn't find a record of um it looked like they approved it last week that's more already at Edgewood isn't it aren't they Combined District okay okay good I know you that you said it

was a a majority decision did they have any concerns about adopting this curriculum on that committee were there any vocal concerns no there weren't any there weren't any type of concerns really brought up with any of the resources so if you had to pick the largest concern out of this particular curriculum what would you say was the outstanding biggest concern I don't know if there were any large concerns these are difficult decisions to make because especially now I mean there are so many resources and and most companies have online and digital resources that they're continuously updating and they're beautiful we met with one company that only had secondary resources available but the ones that they did have available where they partnered with National Geographic and so everything we saw was absolutely beautiful and seemed wonderful

I think the biggest challenge was kind of whittling it down to something that's concise and that's going to work for those teachers that teach at the secondary level and they teach every single day we had to take that into consideration as well as opposed to elementary teachers want to make sure that they had things that they could pull if they're only doing an hour a week how can I quickly pull something or print something off to to unpack a lesson for my students and so you know we just wanted to make sure that we were choosing the right items for each group of teachers and each group of students I'd like to you know see something that engages the student to say hey look we just talked about this let's go to the library or

look it up online and find out more about this particular subject and that would be what I would ask for from a curriculum that it engaged the student to find out more on their own that's a good question did it have a lot of ancillary type of things that you could you know go to sometimes series will happen they'll have little workshops and and different things that you can you know further explore yeah the digital resources I mean they actually included things we had never seen before where they were very engaging and interactive and so there was one where students had an opportunity to play a role in a particular type of historical event and a lot of the resources they really did bring social studies to life see Angie as someone who's taken a

lot of history classes but sometimes it's not the curriculum it's the teacher that makes it engaging or well it's interesting about the Holocaust remembrance that you had yesterday that was something that I was particularly interested in in high school and I took the time to go find out more read books you know to find out more about that particular subject so I'm thinking that if we can engage the students into finding out more about something if it's just a cursory mentioned in a textbook we're going to engage them to go further as somebody who's like a certified World War II nerd I agree I mean yeah yeah I mean I sit at home on the weekends with my 15 year old son and we watch documentaries together so a lot of the times it's just

a click in the brain for the kid what makes them interested but also then teacher absolutely I was curious on your um survey you asked the teachers to presented participated you asked the elementary teachers what time how much time they spend in social studies a day what was the range we got there a week the average was approximately an hour that was what was reported you've mentioned that some of the Publishers only did secondary is it pretty common to have a curriculum done by one company for an entire K-12 is that a common thing or how does that usually fall so I know past adoption options we've broken apart the elementary and secondary each situation has been different I've been through several adoptions in this district and each in I mean each situation has has

definitely been a little bit different I think one of the challenges we had this year was submitting items to ped and ped having the ability to evaluate them and then publish them out for us to see you could see that big companies like you know hmh McGraw-Hill they had time to submit for some materials but not others and so in in our case with savis the publisher had shared with us that they had been monitoring the situation in New Mexico pretty closely because they were preparing to make sure that they were ready to go whenever New Mexico had published those standards so they were able to respond very quickly so if you think about it if we have a kindergartner who starts next year and we start this curriculum with them they're going to be

with this curriculum until they graduate typically we adopt if it's been 13 years since we adopted so will that give them a good you know we'll start you off here and it'll lead into when you're eventually in high school I think that's the Hope by by you know providing something that they're familiar with and making certain that it articulates really well as they go through K-12 so so what did they do for New Mexico history is is fourth and seventh isn't it that New Mexico's history is is taught is the seventh and 9th okay and fourth is fourth still I don't believe that's a separate okay anymore so we have to have something different for that instruction because they typically teach some New Mexico history as well as geography geography during that seventh grade year

nobody has New Mexico history resources and so we went back to the teachers to talk to them about what that could look like most of those teachers had reported that they felt like they either had a really good plan in place already but we're also going to pull them in on that curricular work as well to see what other additional resources we could pull for them so they'll be part of that work as well I know that our teachers have not had those resources for quite some time and so most of them have already built you know really good curricular plans for those particular courses but we're going to pull them in and make sure they have opportunities to do the work so for ninth grade no we do not have a separate New Mexico

history resource for them and then for seventh grade they will use the geography books and then we'll supplement with that as well I think that could be a really great opportunity to partner with local community members you know the Tularosa Basin Historical Society you know they're things like that that's a great way to get them engaged get them out in the community you know go to a museum and look through things and and so I think that's a a good opportunity to get our community involved even more and our teachers already do that I've been in classrooms where you've had teachers and they they really do a fantastic job of making sure they make it work for those kids so if we were going to rate on a scale of one to ten what you

think the buy-in for the teachers at this point would be saying that you only had a committee of eight teachers I mean would what is your feeling of the buy-in for the rest of the staff based on the feedback that we've received we don't have any reason to be concerned again we've tried to give everybody every opportunity to provide feedback to us and we've been open transparent anybody can contact me at any time I'd be more than happy to share our Resources with them and and the process that we've used so you know at this point I I don't have anything a friend that taught so she studies for 25 years and said use the same book the entire time you remember that class because I had her Miss pingle anyway y'all she was she's

probably the only seventh grade social studies for a while anyway uh she was excited they're finally gonna get some new books but it looks like she can't be excited so we'll we'll definitely work with them to support them and make sure that they do have resources available to them as long as the other resources she had a lot of other things besides an actual like textbook semester as a freshman right history that's correct and again I've observed those classrooms those teachers do a great job of bringing all of those local resources because we have a very fascinating history in the state of New Mexico so a lot of opportunities for kids to engage with that a little fascinating you know history is fascinating it you know we come from I'm glad those I talked to

um Melanie Hall back you know she was um not teaching history now she's doing full-time history she says she's just having so much fun with it you know just the stories the getting the kids excited I love that you know history is any other questions for Dr calentine or I just have to say that I saw them every week um really due diligence I I cannot emphasize that enough to you all they did not take this lightly they do everything very thoroughly uh I was so impressed with um not only Dr calentine and her committee's willingness to just try and get the vendors in here so that everybody had access to them but the vendor's willingness to come in and really make extra time to do that and and they didn't have to but they

did I also you know do appreciate that we have the ability to push things out to things like social media so that people can look at them at their Leisure and um and and I can tell you that there was a lot of really good work done I mean um just the scoring and the discussions about it and that went on across the hall were very relevant and very focused and I was very impressed with the committee so now that we're getting all excited about it how sure are you that this is it saves Sabbath Sabbath how how um confident are you that they can get it all here in time well very confident they reassured me that as soon as we made the decision they would immediately send all the Tes out so teachers

could start planning right away and uh they're they're ready to move when we are okay um so is it um like hard books for the students or is it on on their Chromebooks thank you for asking that question so it varies so kindergarten through fourth grade those students will have digital access as well as the teachers will have digital access that way either students can engage with the materials or if teachers wanted to go in and print off materials and activities for them they could do that as well fifth grade we decided to purchase the additional workbooks for the fifth grade school time because they're departmentalized so they spend more time each week on social to the secondary level they'll have a combination of digital resources as well as classroom sets so it won't look

like the check-in checkout like we've done before each teacher will have a classroom set so if they need to refer to them throughout the class the kids can pull them they can all be assigned throughout the day and then they can return them back to the classroom teacher at the end of the lesson you know the only issue that I have is the Community involvement portion that kind of makes me nervous that we haven't had enough Community involvement in the process I wish they would have come I thought the PED did some Community visits for the the standards but they did get they did get feedback from the community and then they actually changed the standards to respond to that as they were going through that process of adopting those standards and to me it

sounds like when the Publishers were there and they were having the community event I you know I appreciate the fact that the the publisher took the time to sit down with that Community member for you said over an hour I mean that I think to me that shows just how serious they are about this curriculum and understanding you know what our wants for our community really are and even that gentleman didn't take the time to fill out the form so I mean it's just I know it's kind of a big ask to get that feedback especially because people are busy but we did want more Community feedback I would also like to say I think it's very smart of you all to do digital for K-12 if you're saying that they're only spending about an

hour I feel like that's really fiscally responsible that we're not buying a ton of books for you know one hour of of curriculum I think that's a smart decision just kind of spacing that out depending upon how much time they're actually using those resources so I appreciate that and we did because ensure to undergo and and it's difficult when you see so many beautiful flashy I mean the sky's the limit when it comes to these uh these resources I mean there's lots of beautiful materials and you could buy all of it because it's shiny and new and exciting um but we tried to balance that with you know what their needs really were and the teachers were pretty honest about what their needs were with us because again we got a lot of verbal feedback

it was getting them to take the time to fill out the surveys and the form so that I had something in black and white and I could say this is what it is so so do they does pet match or do we pay a portion of ped pays a portion how exactly does the purchase of these materials work so our instructional um materials budget is inside our operational budget but it is actually designated as as uh instructional materials um yeah I guess that's where it would come from yeah and then but it's also but it is designated separately even though it's all together I know that's kind of odd but it is set aside for there's instructional materials that are adoptable and then there's a non-adoption piece if we wanted to if there's other things

that we need to to get but the big chunk is inside the operational budget yes they do have some for uh there is a section of the budget that has for approved uh adopt outside materials that you want to bring in yeah right so say if you wanted to purchase the New Mexico history books if there was one that would be a approved outside purchase that's right yeah we were actually thinking of writing one ourselves I literally was thinking seems like you had a conversation a little Gap in the market there so let's say that it that it we go with this series and your teachers um get it it's in the classroom and a teacher knows that she's going to be teaching um you know the Revolutionary War and she loves something of her

past series is that still available to her so I guess it would depend on what the resource was that she was utilizing if it's something that's tangible and she still has absolutely that's something that we're no longer paying for renewing I'm trying to think if there's a circumstance under which that would apply so it's a renewal thing the type of um if it's going on like the internet or that kind of things right right so like the digital resources here we're looking at is a six-year access to digital resources the tangible items the books and and those things those are our I guess what I'm trying to get at is is again the freedom of the teacher absolutely the teacher has an ability to to use this and teach like she she likes to teach

she absolutely I think we've always always advocated that every teacher in at least secondary I shouldn't speak for elementary school teachers because I can't but I know I had at least one copy of every recent of every past adoption in my because there was always something good in there that you wanted to be able to utilize so I'm sure this is the case as well right exactly yeah they love that's for sure and you know I Envision what I know we did with the science work was you know as as we were kind of laying out those units week to week you know you would have what you know what you're covering you would have your standards but then you would have a list of different resources that you could pull from that way everybody's

covering the same content and they're staying with each other but you know if I found something really cool that I I like to do or a really amazing lesson or resource I can plug it in to that as well share with other teachers and so we might not be all doing the exact same thing but we're covering the same content and trying to stay on Pace with each other so I I imagine as we do this work it'll look very similar to that and we're very supportive of that so no hesitation on their part to write this letter oh no no he told me immediately afterwards that they could provide that for us good anyone else have any questions of Dr calentine I really appreciate all of your questions I think they've all been good

and I think it's important to have that conversation and make sure everybody feels uh comfortable with the answer so Dr contact thank you so very much for all of your work and and time and thank you for coming today and and you know just making sure we understood the process and everything that you and your committee have done so thank you I appreciate the time and again if you guys have any questions at all come and see me I have a huge binder with everything that we've done and and please feel free to contact us will you be at the board meeting this evening yes ma'am okay good so some questions we might have between now and then okay weekend is that the material over there on the side yeah so we brought over some

samples thank you for bringing that up I wanted to see if you can look at them yeah get a feel for what the digital resources look like so there's several booklets with different content in it so you can get a feel for what the students and teachers see there are a couple of tees the fifth grade workbooks that I refer to there's a sample of that and then there's a middle school textbook as well as a couple of high school textbooks as well so yeah please feel free to to peruse and and there's a lot more where that came from as well so if you're ever interested we still have all of that stuff over there in boxes so um yeah anytime thank you thank you thank you appreciate you guys thank you thank you

hey anything else okay well we have a good 45 minutes have a pretty good stretch and uh stretching okay take a break for a second session to an end okay it works yes ma'am thank you so much I appreciate everybody coming in and doing this today thank you answered my question from earlier transportation oh not work session I can go to the bathroom about the transportation sorry I've done 18 things about the uh budget I can't yet but I will okay yeah I because I lost my APS phone somewhere on the way down on the mountain oh
