0019 8 >> Good afternoon. The Rear Rancher Public Schools Board of Education special meeting um for Tuesday, April 7th, 2026 is now called to order. If all would please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. Seth Mueller will um will lead us. Here we go. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Will you take a roll call for us? >> President Gal, >> present. >> Vice President >> President. Secretary Murray >> present. >> Board member Barry >> present. >> We have a quorum. >> Okay. All right. We'd like to welcome everyone out for this special meeting. Um board secretary Murray, we're sorry she can't be here with us in person. She

002is coming in through online um just due to having some the flu. So we would rather her not be here with us. Um we also want to welcome Dr. Dodd who's he's for this special meeting. He's not going to sit up here for us with us, but he is here with us um in the room for for today. So, welcome and kind of an odd like really I count your first official meeting as Monday, but because we have these really odd meetings here, but welcome and we're so excited um to have you. And um with that, uh let's go ahead and approve the prioritized agenda and proposed time allocations. Do I have a motion? Board member a motion to approve priorities agenda and the proposed time allocations. Board move second the motion. >> Okay, we

003have a motion and a second and all in favor >> I. >> Any opposed? Okay, motion carries. >> Okay. And do we have any public comments that's signed up? No. Okay. Thank you. Okay. So, with that, our meeting for tonight, we're going to go straight into the business. And um we are going to talk about first up, do we have to do an approval of our interview questions? Oh, in our score sheet. I thought we did that at our last meeting. And we'll have Lauren Hatch, our chief legal counsel, come up and talk about our first item. Oh, the scoreeet. That's right. I remember. Good evening, Madam President, members of the board. Yeah, during the last the last meeting, we talked about the questions and I think we're going to approve them. Um, we talked

004about kind of a score sheet and we we put it into what we think is a form. Wanted to make sure that question number six was what the discussion that you had. So that's the purpose of this business item. >> Okay. >> Me just open it over here real quick. Does anyone have any comments on the score sheet? Do you want to talk s? >> I was just so we're asking them the five questions or six, right? If they have any for us and then if they have any if we have any followup or anything additional, are we allowed to add to it even though it's not for every candidate? So I think we have to be really careful with that and just making it fair for everyone is is the thing. I think at

005the end if we want to give people an opportunity just to speak for like a moment maybe we could do that. >> Maybe a follow-up question to something that we're concerned about or just we want a little bit more about. But I what do you think Lauren? >> President I think the board can approach it any way that they want to do it. >> Um usually the reason that you have specific questions is so that everybody gets a a fair chance, >> right? um that the that the interviews are are consistent. At least that's in a a philosophy for an employment matter. This is a little bit different than employment. This is for a a public officer. So I think the board is is able to do what they want. I would recommend though to

006keep it as consistent as possible. >> Is this a is this just are you talking about no follow-ups during the question period? If they answer a question, you have you're not saying that. You're saying at the very end or both? >> At the very end. If we had something we wanted to more clarification on or do a followup with, would we be allowed to? Because now we're asking a seventh question. You know what I mean? >> I didn't have I my thought was to be have some flexibility to have follow-up questions, but there has to be some fairness and reasonleness. We can't just have follow-up questions that are all over the place. Um but um maybe discipline focused question or follow-up questions would seems reasonable, but I would follow your judgment on that. >> Well,

007and I think on that line, so I think we can talk about that here though this kind of runs into I think our next um item as well is how we want to for sure format. So we've have we have and we'll talk about this in just a second. we have nine um that we have in our possession. Um and there's different ways we can do it. So tonight as we're talking, we can say, "Okay, we're going to bring it down to four or to five or to whatever." Or um and I think I think you had a different idea on this. Isn't that correct? What was what was your thought? >> Four, but then I had asked Lauren about it. is that similar to when we were running for office, we all sat up

008here and Tracy from the observer was sitting where Lauren is at and it was a forum and she like question one start with Michael and then Rebecca you and then me and then question two start with Rebecca and I said can we put up tables and do a similar thing a forum with however many candidates we have ideally I agree four maybe five at the most >> four let's make that let's do four yes >> is that and then have them there where Lauren is staying up because also if they want to take notes or they have questions like it's really hard to do notes or spread anything that you have any supplemental material that you bring with you that you want to go through or we keep on that you want to talk about

009on the podium and then do it similar to the forum where we just ask question one and all of the candidates answer it and then question two and we can scatter them around who starts each one instead of >> and then it's that way >> sorry and then that way they're uh they're all getting the same question and then they all have at the same time they're all answering the same question. We don't have to try and remember who said what go back and then you're just doing for us we'd have to have like four sheets of paper to keep track of everybody you know >> Fred Barney and Betty who's on who's what. >> But then that way they're all getting the same question at the same time. >> Yeah. And with that, so

010we can bring it down to four or we can take it and we can split it in half and you have we have one day where we do everyone and we have the other day where we do the other half. So if there's that so that's the other way that we could do it if we wanted to and then we have those deliberations on Thursday if we want to just bring everyone in. I'm fine if we want to whittle it down but it does if we do it in that format it does give the opportunity where you could have two days and just have everyone come in and go and do it in that format. I don't know if you're interested in that. So, speak up. Now, Michael, >> I I guess I haven't thought

011about that long enough to have a strong opinion about. So, my impression is is to give people a fair like I don't know having the forum style was has its pluses and minuses. I feel like giving a chance because the questions are available. There's no secrets of the questions. So, it's not and uh uh we can it's probably going to be recorded so we could review them later if we wanted to. I I guess if you were to ask my I don't have a strong preference a slight preference to having just one person at a time go. But I can see the merit in what you're bringing up and I'm not strongly opposed to it. So, if that's a if that's fair. I would never challenge you Seth ever. >> I want to see the

012challenge of the end. >> I mean I think you're far away so I guess I can do it a little bit. too far to throw. No, I would agree that if and I was just trying to think of like and if we do like if we're going to go down to four people is and I think we could easily go to four. There's some that are just not even I think and I'm not the only one. I would assume that there's just a you know and we appreciate everybody's time and effort to put in for it but there's just some like not everybody's going to get picked, right? Is the If we have four is our number, then I'm okay with but I think if we have more than four, if we're going to do

013a larger group, then I think the four makes it easier or quicker to get through the questions versus having them come up and and I think if they come up, we would have their name and do uh like all five or all six questions for that candidate and then they sit down and then the next candidate comes up and has their chance to do six instead of versus I was just thinking if we do question one, we don't want candidate sit down, candidate two sit down, candidate three sit down. If you come up one, you do all of the questions and then you sit down, the next candidate comes up and does all of their questions. I think does that Rebecca that loop >> you know the Oh, Rebecca, go ahead. I know you have

014a thought. >> Yeah, I I prefer to whittle it down to like four candidates. Um, I don't I think that would be easier on our end. I mean, we had phenomenal candidates. That's how I look at it. Um, applications. Um, I'm I'm cool with the forum thing, too. Um, but either way, whatever we all decide on, I'm I'm good with that. I do like the forum thought process, though, too. That's all. >> Yeah. You know, as I think about it, um, I could see a like a forum actually being better in some ways. and and I hadn't really thought about it until as you guys were talking back and forth about it is that if you have the first person come up it g it gives them an advantage that gives the last person an

015advantage to see like oh that wasn't a great answer like even though they have all the questions right whereas if they're all up here and or we have them down there however we want to do I guess they would be down there but we can also just kind of see them next to each other and and they're each answering within the moment versus um let me take notes on I should change the way that I was going to answer that because you know for for whatever reason. And so maybe maybe a form actually is a better way. We can still whittle it down to the four if we want to do that. And >> yeah, because they're I mean they're still going to be able to see as one person is speaking see our body

016language like you're not going to be able to like you just you can't it's human nature. You can't hide it that >> masks, angry masks. >> You have paper bags for now. So they can't >> I >> so they could still change it but then they don't have as much time to change it or really think like how can I what they said it seemed the board agree with how can I add on to that and make it sound even more enticing to pick me whereas if you're just like >> and and with you guys we were able to then it was able to change who took the f that question. Tracy alternated who she started with for each question that she presented. >> Yeah. And of the four that will be not. >> And

017similar to that, we were prepared or some of us were like I know Michael and I had we and I think Rebecca had as well. We had access to the questions beforehand and we were able to formulate some sort of answer and >> do a little bit off the cuff, but it wasn't nobody was blindsided by any of the questions at all. >> Yeah. You want to add anything, Michael? >> I think I agree. I the one c counterpoint to maybe having a more one-on-one interview is that it gives them a chance to kind of build a narrative story about themselves in a little bit clearer way. um that maybe it's like there's like a through thread for them and maybe they can't they can do that in the forum style too but maybe makes

018it a little there's kind of like here's why I should be here that answer a question question maybe I don't know if we decide a closing statement but they can say here's what I want you to take away from me at the end and it's maybe easier in one one particular setting but um I still am in the camp of I don't have a strong opinion about either way and if you think the form is the right way to go I I'm fine with that >> I wasn't that way until Now I'm like, wait, I could see that being better. Just I was like, "Oh, that sounds good." But I hadn't really thought about it until >> Well, I've told JC I'm here just to throw wrenches. >> I know. That's what I appreciate. >>

019That's my job. >> Okay. And we and we're not voting on per se on that. So maybe we just talk about it in just a second. But I guess thinking about that and we are going to approve these questions. Um I just want to open this back up. Um so with the questions, are we good with the questions? um as they've been presented and do we feel like we can do you need do you need my computer to just look back over I know you wrote them most of them so all of almost all of them >> uh I can I I know the questions >> okay I just want to look at them one more time >> yes please >> if I if I can if you well may I suggest just thinking about

020the idea of follow-up questions in order to keep it focused on the questions that the board is approving or will approve that perhaps you could say board members could ask follow-up questions that are limited to clarifying the answers that you receive. >> That way you're not expanding the list. >> Yeah. >> Does that make sense? Like >> it's limited to what it like is >> you ask the question, they give an answer, but maybe you need some clarification. Say a board member could ask a clarifying question. >> Perhaps that's the way to handle it. >> Okay. Yeah. So, we could do that. >> Makes sense. >> Yeah. I think that's good for the questions. >> Um, >> please. I was going to actually ask >> all your advice theory on the theory. Um, if the

021approach is to do it as a forum, another thought is that you could, and I believe this is what happened to the forum there before the questions were asked, there was an opening statement that I think it was limited to like a minute or two. >> Two minutes becomes a very long time when you're >> just talking, right? >> Um, and then there was a closing statement, I believe, for like a minute or two. >> Yes. um those aren't necessarily questions, but that could be a way to handle it. Um, of course, every element that you add to it increases the time that it would take to get through it. And I know that the focus should be making the best decision possible, but just taking into account the practicalities of it. >> Yeah, that

022that kind of that kind of begs the the next question. If we do that forum, do we want to have you get five minute total to answer the question? because we don't want I mean I guess for our sanity do we want to be here till 8:30 at night or >> says no I think even for the forum that we did >> there was time limits >> each question we had I think 3 minutes max >> and I know like very rarely was it I think only one time did Tracy actually like hey we or had the timer on his phone or something that we actually were like hey you're going to go over >> you out So, it's more it gives you a little bit more pressure, but I think the pressure that it

023gives you is we don't want a whole bunch of vegetables. We just want the meat and potatoes, right? Just give us the answer. Like, don't we don't need all this extra fluff and everything to go all the sides that go with it to make it a meal. Like, just tell us why you're here. Answer the question. You have three minutes for each question. I'm trying I I mean so I I like the form if we do a form then question six I don't know then after you know we've come up with that one >> becomes challenging. >> Yeah that becomes Yeah. And and so maybe we wouldn't use that. If we don't do that I don't know legally and such is can you just ask everyone to come for that those interviews and say we'd

024just like you to sit in this room over here and we'll interview and so we don't necessarily have the screens on. So, because it's public, so everyone's going to be watching, but could we ask them to just be in a room doing whatever they want to do and um while we're making those other interviews? The hard thing is they ask for that. Is that >> I think so because that's what that's what we did with Dr. D and Dr. Sanchez and >> Rish is that they came out one person came out did their presentation. I don't know you guys are in the back playing poker what they were doing, but Me either, >> but they were they were separated. They were separated out and then so that candidate came out and was like went through

025theirs and then but that was a public meeting as well. So I think we should be able to have the candidate sit in one of the training rooms. >> Madam President, it it is a open meeting so anybody has a right to attend and listen. I do recall that the last time the board went went through this process, they did ask the interviewees to voluntarily not be in the room. >> I think everybody complied with that. >> Okay. >> But but being able to ban them from it, you you really can't. >> All right. Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. >> I mean, that's even a small test of their character, right? that can you are you willing to sit in there for 20 minutes while we talk to you and that you're friends and then if

026they're not like that doesn't really work well for >> it doesn't look good >> we're going to take have to take that into consideration >> I'm just kidding >> so with that so we're going to either and and so this it's good we're having this discussion because it does change possibly how what our questions do look like so I guess we kind we do need to make that decision is what format Matt, do we want to to do it? >> I I'm on the fence either way. Similar to Michael, I think if we do a forum, we take question six out, give them an opportunity to do an opening and closing statement to provide any what they think is additional versus us asking them the question at the end of it. Or if we do

027interviews that, can you voluntarily hang out in the other room while we interview? I mean, at a regular job interview, even if you show up, there's six people sitting in the lobby that you got to wait your turn. >> Yeah. Rebecca, do you have any thoughts? >> Oh, sorry, one second. I'm here. Um, I I do like the form part, but I understand um why we wouldn't do it. Um, I think if we did like an opening statement from them instead of a closing statement, I think we could do one or the other. I don't think we necessarily need to do both. Um, but definitely timed definitely timed answers like one to three minutes, you know. Um, I don't know. I I think the the biggest thing right now we would have to figure out

028if we're going to interview them all or chop it down to like four or five that we're going to interview and then maybe from there we could figure out if we're going to do a forum style or a regular like one-on-one interview. What do you think? I think it's we think we've all pretty much agreed to narrow it down to four. We haven't voted on it. Um I guess I guess I have slight prefer my slight preference is just to a standard interview but um I will not have a fit if we don't do it that way. >> How much time what does that look like math? If you are good at math, how much time does that look like if you're the fourth person? Are we giving them a time limit still? >> Three

029minutes per question. >> There's five questions. >> Is that too fast for a question? If you're doing an interview style, >> say the interview's 25 minutes just as a >> you know. >> Yeah. Because that would be 18 minutes and then if they do an opening statement. So you have 25 minutes and then so 30 minutes because you got to get somebody out have somebody call the other person to come in. So 30 minutes for each one. If you have four that's two hours. >> They could be sitting over there for two hours. That's about how long I We could whittle it down for a forum, but it's probably going to be hour and a half at >> minimum. >> I think it'll be the same time. It just be if you're candidate four, you're

030sitting in that back room for an hour and a half to wait for your 30 minutes to close it out. >> It's just a long time to ask people to come and sit in the back in the back. >> So, if we do So, what if if we do interviews and we have four cuz there's I don't think Are they here? Yeah. >> One that they know they're going to be interviewed. I think we're going to have to call them right at 4:00 tomorrow. By the way, you're going to be at 4:30. >> Should know tonight. >> But they then we could tell them if we figure out the order. So, the meeting starts at 4:30. Give us 15 20 minutes to get to all the the fluff we have to do to start a

031meeting. And then like if you're candidate one, you need to be here at 4:30. If you're candidate 2, you need to be here before 5. If you're candidate three, you need to be here by 5:30. You're candidate. >> Yeah. And that's fine. We can do that. It's just that they could be on the >> they could watch online if they want. And then but like if you come early, we're going to ask you to sit in the other room while we're interviewing the other people. If you don't want to sit in there for an hour and a half or an hour, >> you can show up at a time that >> you have a suggestion. >> Yes. for chief legal counsel. >> If that's if that's allowed to get his suggestion, >> give us a

032different counsel. >> U Madam President, I think you could um I think you could schedule them for times or you could ask them to just wait. >> But we probably need to book that tonight once. >> Absolutely. >> Okay. I'm okay with I I see the good in doing the one-on-one. So I see both. I see. hurt my feelings. You say I wanted >> No. Well, and I can see when you said to that, you know, it you get to know people a little bit better when you have them in a in a one-on-one. A little bit of a better feel than we're going to fill when when they're all together. I think there's plus and minuses when they're all together. Then we also can kind of see how each of them interact even under

033a little bit of stress, I guess, against, you know, with other people who are who are going against him. But we do get to have a better feel for who they are individually. I think when just like you you were saying earlier and we just have to make a decision. We're just all going around because I think we um let's um this is kind I guess this goes with our with our questions. Why don't we just go ahead and do if everyone's good with it and this isn't an official like something we have to vote on. Let's do the one ones and just schedule a time if everyone sounds great as if everyone's okay with that. >> Is that okay? >> July 2nd. Okay. >> Yeah, >> we don't have to even vote on that

034part. Is it Rebecca, are you okay with that? We'll just schedule times. >> Yeah, it sounds good. >> It is going to be a little bit it it will be what it is and that's okay. Um, so with that, so knowing that we're going to do it individually, then are we good with the questions as they are on here? Is there anything? >> You remind me the sixth question because >> the sixth one is just do you have any questions about the position? >> Oh, very good. >> So that's we added that while you were while you were out. Um, so anything that needs to be added? Does everything look good? There's a scoring on there, too. So, you saw the scoring. Um, there's a scoring on there that we can that we can use.

035Um, so I'll give you guys a second. See, do you want anything added or we can go to a motion to approve the to approve those or if we'd like to. >> Board member Barry, motion to approve questions for candidate interviews. Board member Murray. I second. Have a >> motion and a second. All in favor? I >> I. >> Any opposed? Okay. Motion carries. Okay. Thank you. Okay. So, we have our questions. We understand our format and if suddenly that needs to we need to come back to that then we can. Um, so now we're going to go ahead and take um to consider the applications that we've received. There's a couple of things that we need to discuss as we go into these applications um that we've received and one of those is we

036set a cut off time for that Friday at noon. The ninth one that we received actually came in at 2:30 in the afternoon. So that is um during Easterers or Esther's when his his came in late. So we have it we have it in our board materials and everyone's been looking at it. um we need to make that a decision on if we're going to go ahead and and keep that one in or if we're going to say we said noon on Friday and so that one has been disqualified. Um is thoughts? >> I agree. I mean a lot of this job as we found is the timing and >> you saying being here on time is an important thing. >> Not for I mean this was >> deserve it. This was a special meeting

037and I thought it was at 5:30 until my calendar alert went off and I was like, "Oh, it's 5:30. >> I'm better." And um but I mean it's I know life happens, but it wasn't like we announced it Wednesday or Thursday. We're going to give like there was plenty of time to if eight other people were able to get it in on time. There was no reason. I don't know what the what Yeah, I would say it's disqualified. >> Okay. And we did take time to look uh I I sat here with JC and and Lauren made sure that that was the correct time that it was brought in and JC and I we all went through and made sure all the posts were it said noon and that there wouldn't have been necessarily any

038confusion with that. And um I think that so if do you feel like we should just qualify that way? >> That sounds great. Uh we need there's eight there's nine people. you need reasons to disqualify people unfortunately is how it goes. >> Okay. Okay. So that means our our ninth one that came in. Um so it's Darren um either Easter or Esther that that's the one that we would pull. >> Have have we confirmed that everybody on the that we have lives in the district in the district under >> Yes. So I believe Lauren as those all came in and I was actually even been looking at Adam because there were some I I didn't realize that were in and that's just kind of a funny shape to that to that district. But >> thank

039you for standing up again. >> That's how you get his his work out. >> Members of the board in the materials that you received um there should either be a copy of their card >> Yeah. or their voter registration and it will say what district that they're in for the school board and I believe that they all are correct. >> Okay. I didn't I didn't notice that district classification. >> Yeah, all of them have district 4 listed school boards. >> Just wanted to confirm. >> Thank you. >> Okay, good. And that so yes, everything is is correct the way that we have it. Um I'm just making sure to get something in. So on that uh so we everyone is in agreeance that we're going to bring it down to four. So in the way

040that we can do this it can look we can do it in different ways. Um one of those ways is and you guys can give any other ideas of how you feel that we want to to bring it down. First I want to say this before I even go into those ways is that I am so grateful for the people of the community. at first like we got in we had like one and I was that was good and I thought oh maybe we're not going to get that many and then suddenly we had eight and um I'm so grateful that the community came out and they were willing to put their name forth and that shows a lot that we have people who care who want to do that. So I'm grateful for that.

041And then as I read through them I there there's very very good candidates in here. Um there wasn't anyone that I was like ah you know that I was cons just really good candidates in here and um and we do have people who um they have great credentials and who are willing to come and and to help us in a time of need for sure um for these next two years as a board member. So, putting that out there. Grateful for for everyone who did put in these as we as we look at them. So, we can one everyone can just say who their top four are. Um, we could just say who this is my top four of what I saw. Okay. Um, we can I have a tool if we want you. We

042do not have to use this tool by any means. Um, but this is a tool. I think it's on your desks maybe. So this is another like a tool that we could use where it gets tallied up. This is called um oh it doesn't have it's like a paired you you pair the candidates. So what it does is our well our whole first one would be taken out now. Um that's on our list but you take each candidate against another candidate and you put who you would have you probably have done this in interviewing possibly before. Um, we used this tool when we were selecting our superintendent um, a couple of times. And what it does is it's a quick way where we are able to just quickly kind of get out where everyone stands

043and um, and then you can have additional conversation from that if you want to do it that way. What are some other ways that you see or comments that you have on ways that we can kind of go about taking this down a little bit? Go ahead, Seth. I would say initially just who we think our top four are and if there's if all of all four of us have like that it's the same all you know the same person then they would move on to an interview right like but then if there's any discrepancy or major >> like why did you pick that guy >> you know then we can discuss like what our thought process was because we weren't allowed to talk about this kind of really weird right you can't talk to

044anybody about any of this stuff until we're here in front of everyone. So, it's like you're just trying to figure out on the silo and you're not a fan of cylinders of excellence. So trying to figure out whether I think yeah initially we say who our top four are and worst case all four of us have the same four people but no um but then you can explain if there's any like dispar like major differences or on why you why you know and then like you pitch either for or against that person for whatever reason. >> Yeah. Yeah. And you know, and and I'm I'm just going to be very upfront with it because it's public and because we have so many great ones. I just I I get nervous. I don't want to anyone

045to feel that we have like negative negative things to say. And I think I think we're looking at good people against good people and trying to pick the best person >> um for the fit um that we feel with us. So any comments, Michael? Sorry. >> And it's a two-year I mean we're finishing up Beth's term, so like December of next year is when it's over. So you if you really if you didn't get selected and you really want to, there's plenty of opportunity like put your name in that and get go for the election in fall of 27 and and then serve before your term. >> Yeah, absolutely. I I I completely agree with everything that said I'm impressed and and I'm pretty sure that every single person would have great things to offer.

046I mean just math though says that now eight one out of eight is only the pick. We have to make a decision. Um, I don't know any of these people personally. I've I've maybe heard of a few of them occasionally, but I've never met them. I don't know much about any of them. So, the only thing I could go off of is what the information that was provided. And, you know, up front there was a big discrepancy between some of the information provided on some and some of the others. So like some provides a lot of information, good context, good overview, like that's going to be a lot to work with compared to like you know they said a couple paragraphs and I just can't make good judgments off of that. So that's not going

047to make you so that's kind of that's some of the logics I'm thinking here but um yeah I agree with what everything else has been said especially grateful for everyone who put in because and I'm sure that this is going to come down to marginal points. This is how often it goes is the top and the bottom are three-point difference, you know, something like that. >> Yeah, definitely. Rebecca, do you want to give any comment on that? >> Um, no. I I think we like I like you, everyone else said, we had amazing applicants and stuff like that. I think if we just rip the band-aid off and we all just say the four that we think that we should interview, we should just do it. Sorry, I'm being very blunt at this point. All

048right. >> I like how every time Rebecca talks, will I look at the ceiling like she's >> like an angel? It's like above to you all. From above. Yeah. >> That's how I always feel. I always feel like it's someone in the heavens that I >> And we can't even like see because we don't have it up on the screen at all. So, yeah. It's just a >> You also don't want to see me right now. Like I got, you know, I look decent, but no one wants to see me. I look like >> Yeah. Um, okay. Um, so well, if you guys really want to do it that way, then we're just naming our top our top four, it sounds like. Is that that's the plan? Um, Seth, do you have anything else you

049want to add before we start naming? Any other thoughts? You you're our idea man. You want to just give your top four? >> We're troublemaker. >> You're the the troublemaker. >> I don't I I agree. I think everybody it it's daunting even when to run for office was daunting and then I mean for me it was a little different. I was a light in candidate so it was like even more crazy but the willingness to put yourself out there because now you're a public servant and you serve the community and I know I think we had said in the last meeting like the district is just before the election once you're here all 21 schools are all of ours. We don't there are no lions and we're here for all of us, right? There's no,

050you know, the old saying, there's no high-end team and somebody says, "Yeah, but what if there's a me?" Yeah. But the A is you got to work, you know, when the team is together, right? You have to be and if whoever we pick, they want they have to join the team. Like we're not we won't be successful if there's a lot of bickering up here between all of us. And I think right now we're super blessed. The four of us get along fairly well and Michael didn't buy a cigar, but whatever. >> I did. You didn't. You didn't. >> But and it's somebody new. We're going to just have to get to know them. They'll have to get to know us. Little quirks and things that make everybody tick and make you an individual, but

051it's a it's a team effort. So, I think as long as they understand that from the get-go and really willing to put themselves out there and and not just on us because it was it's all public record, even their application, if somebody pulled up the packet, they can read through and like their information's out there now. So, I appreciate everybody doing that. And it's life, right? It's a life lesson. Like you you can't pick all of the same people to be quarterback. You can only pick one. Yeah. And so a thought for you is as you have kind of your top four, my thoughts is I think I'm going to try to present them as these are kind of four equals that I'm presenting. Not necessarily like my my number one for sure or anything

052like that as we as we do that. So um okay Seth you want to give us who you are thinking? >> Sure. I will do it in alphabetical order so that way it's not I could do that. >> Richard Bruce, Don Rush, Stephanie Smith, and Lauren Walters. >> I will tell you that my list is exactly the same. >> No, I'm just kidding. >> Mine's exactly the same. That's funny. Okay, Michael. Not quite the same, but maybe because you know more about. So, I put um I'm not going to I'm just going in the order of this this written on this paper. Uh Glenn Walters, uh Richard Bruce, Stephanie Smith, and Ronnie Cervana. Candina. >> I'm just writing your name on that one. >> Okay. and then and then we'll go back and we can

053we can have some discussion. Um Rebecca, you want to give your your tops? >> Yes. Not in any specific order. It's uh Richard Bruce, Glenn Walters, Ronnie Cervania, and Don Rush. >> Okay. Okay. So, it looks like I'm trying to make sure. So, between Ronnie and then is that that are two is Ronnie and Stephanie. Is that the two that are different on on everyone's? Is that right? >> Oh, wait. Don Rush wasn't on yours. >> I didn't put him on mine. >> Okay. So, we don't have him on yours and and you had Don Rush on yours. Is that right? >> Yes, >> Rebecca. Okay. Okay. So, let's um Why don't we take a look at at those? Do you want to just take a look at those two? The two that we we

054have a little Well, we have three. You had Stephanie on yours, too. So, we had three on Stephanie's. Is that right? Or you didn't? I can't remember, Rebecca. Sorry, Rebecca. >> I I didn't have Stephanie as my top four. She would have been my fifth if >> Okay, Stephanie. >> You had Stephanie, though. Okay, let me just calculate this better because I didn't do a good job. So, we have we have three of us on Stephanie. Is that right? >> Yes. >> We have uh four for Richard Bruce. Is that right? >> Yes. >> We have um was it two for Ronnie? >> Yes. >> Okay. And then we had um Glenn Walters. I think that was four for him. Was that on everyone's list? >> Yes. And then we had um for for Don

055Rush I think we had three. >> Yes. >> Three. Who am I missing on here that I because I have one, two? Oh, so it's the Ronnie. Okay. So, the one that has the least amount would be um would be Ronnie. Correct. >> Correct. So, we could either just say we won't do Ronnie since it got the la least amount or we can have a discussion. Um, >> that's I'm fine with if she got the least amount. It that's okay on my end. I'm If you guys are all okay with that, it's fine. >> Okay. >> What do you Michael? Do you want to have >> Yeah, that's fine with me. I think if we did I um her her background in you know education in Hawaii I thought was interesting and so but it's

056we have another candidate similar qualifications so >> okay so so that would leave so that means we have Don Rush Glenn Walters uh Richard Bruce and Stephanie Smith is that correct >> those four >> okay >> yes >> and let me go back to >> you even printed a fancy score sheet >> huh Huh? >> You even printed a fancy score. >> I know. Well, and we didn't use it the way I intended to. It just was a mess now, but this was a good way to do it. I know. I You think I could do that better? Um, okay. So, with that, um, so we have four candidates. Anything else? I'm going to go over to um to Lauren Hatch because I like to have him come up and back back and forth. Is

057there anything that we're missing as we go into this vote kind of on on our candidates? So, it sounds like we have four um that we've picked. >> President, no motion vote. >> Okay. >> Have your four. >> Okay. Any last questions or thoughts before we go into motion from the board? >> Okay. Rebecca, you're good before we go into motion? >> No, I'm good. Thank you. >> Okay. If anyone wants to take the motion on, I would appreciate it. I could do that. Mot uh board member Rebecca Murray. Motion to approve. Do I do all four of them at the same time? >> Yep. >> Okay. Motion approve. Richard Bruce, Glenn Walters, Don Rush, and Stephanie Smith for interviews. Is that okay? >> Yep. >> Second motion. We have a motion in a second.

058And all in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. 4 Z. So, okay. Um, so let's talk about the next two days. Um, we can there's a couple things we can do. We can interview all four of them tomorrow and we could deliberate tomorrow even or we could do two tomorrow and two on Thursday and um and we can deliberate on Thursday. So, how would you like to do this? >> I would say if we can, we do all four tomorrow. >> Okay. >> Because we have a meeting Monday. Again, like we don't >> we are family now. We just >> we have a caught in the back. >> Okay. So, you're thinking four of them tomorrow and then we would um have and we're scheduled for a meeting tomorrow starting at 4:30. Is

059that correct? >> 4:30. Okay. So we're So what do you think, Michael, as far as that? So So trying to get all four in tomorrow. Would you Are you guys So you guys are hoping to also deliberate tomorrow and just kind of have a Let's see how much we can get done tomorrow unless we need to come back on Thursday. >> I would say if we can. Yeah. But if it starts to get like where it looks like we're going to be here till 9:30, 10:00, then we >> we come back >> table it and and finish Thursday. >> Okay. And I think that that is appropriate within our what we have posted. Right, Rebecca? Any thoughts? >> I'm I'm actually going to be doing this via Zoom again. I'm sorry to be that pain

060in the butt. Um, so whatever you guys agree on, I'm fine with it because I won't physically be there. I'll be up in the sky talking to you all. >> I know from from above. We appreciate it. >> You can hear the whole room when you speak. Um, okay. So, so with that, why don't we JC, how about we schedule our first I I'm just trying to give us some some time for opening and all of those things. Yeah, how about we ask do we So, we'll schedule the first one. We'll plan on it actually starting at like 4 um 40, but we'll ask that first person just to be here at 4 4:30. Does that make Did the numbers come out of my mouth correctly? I'm hoping. Okay. So, we'll ask him to be

061there, but we're going to have to just open the meeting and just do those things um before we get started. And then we'll plan on starting that first one at 4:40. What did we say for time? How long? We're planning on a 25m minute interview. Is that correct? >> Yes, >> I think so. >> However much time, how much we can get. So, what we would do when we were doing our superintendent um our first interviews that we did do with them, we um if we didn't get it in with that in that time span, then we said, "Okay, thank you." And we just So, if we didn't get to question six or whatever it may be, we just that was how we ended. So, >> some people are going to be shorter answers. So,

062I think the next candidate like we don't want to wait around for them. They need to be here >> 10 minutes. We can schedule each one maybe 10 minutes early um from the interview time just so that they're here just in case we >> So let's do interviews. Let's plan interviews for 25 minutes. >> I like 30 minute interviews. So that gives five minutes for them to get out and the other one to get in and there's only one one can here tonight, right? >> As far as I know. I'm looking >> Stephanie. I say she gets to pick what time she wants. She showed up. >> Yeah, I think that's a that's a good plan. We'll we'll talk to you right after right after the meeting. So, um what else am I missing? Lauren

063Hatch started meeting 4:30. >> Yes. >> Start at 4:40. >> Yes. >> And then schedule the next one. >> Yes. Yeah. >> So, it's only going to give you five minutes in between if you want to use the restroom or anything like that. So, is that going to be we can manage. >> Okay. Okay. About our 90minute interviews that we had done in December, that was a little bit harder. Um Okay. Does that make sense, Jaci? What we're what we're looking for? Okay. Um and then after that, so everything's going to be public and normally it would be nice if we could just go sit in the back. I think this is my thought. um is if we have a discussion and just to kind of keep this in your minds and there's maybe we

064feel like we need to bring in two people again that might be to what we do on Thursday. So if maybe we're struggling or or something with that then we can ask them if they if they'd be willing to come back and we can kind of even do a second interview or something like that if we need to. Yeah. or if the the points the scaling of it they're neck and neck or tied to try and we could have them come back the next day and if they want the job they're going to be here a lot they are I know you don't know what you don't know that we we have a lot of to do as a as a school board so okay any other questions before we close this meeting for tonight

065>> do we want do we just are we letting it for JC to do the scheduling and >> well I I'm going to if that's okay with with Jaci, I'm planning on her doing the scheduling and we'll get that taken care of um after the meeting and if we have someone who hopefully everyone's available. So that's going to be the other thing is as we do the schedule um >> it'll make it easier if they're not. >> Yeah, there you go. >> Like they knew it was coming, right? So >> at some point and that's part of like when we joined the board, we didn't know this was coming and here we are three days in a row. and then all kind like it's there's a lot. >> I don't think you realize it when

066you're like do this school work. >> Yeah. >> But it's we have to fill a board position. But yeah, >> right. I mean, but there's a lot and then there's the workshops, the special workshops that got added in and trying to figure because we had a new board, a new superintendent. So, we wanted to make sure that all the new people were up to date with all of the presentations that were coming from all the different departments. And it just is the way it happened. And JC promises that the rains will slow down after May. But I don't know. And we have like coming up, right? We'll have dinners coming up for the the different schools. All the graduations for high schools graduation. There's a tribute concert. Dr. B has meet and greets with the

067public to support him. So there's a lot going on. So I think in reality if they can't make it tomorrow then it just makes our job easier. >> Are we saying that the the interviews are having a grand total of 25 minutes and we're not doing each m each each question is a sec as five minutes or whatever. >> Right. Okay. >> Well then if we don't get to them all then >> that's great. Just making sure >> because if they're not a big talker >> Yeah. there'll be a lot of awkward silence. All right. Okay. Anything else? Any other questions? Rebecca, any questions? >> No. Um, everything sounds good. >> Okay. >> I'm deteriorating pretty quickly here. So, >> no, you're good. We're going to let you go back um and rest >> with

068that. So, um as far as advanced planning, yes, just please have the next two days open and then you guys will have I will not be here for the 13th, but we'll have a Oh, the finance committee meeting I believe is canled by the way for the 13th. So on the 13th we just have a regular board meeting. Um and to your your thought we do have the Phoenix dinner coming up, the Crimson dinner coming up and another meeting in between there. So what you're available for, just let us know so we can plan accordingly. Um and thank you guys for coming out tonight and this meeting's adjourned. Thank you.
