All right. I have uh five o'clock, so we are going to go ahead and get started. Um, six of the seven board members are here. Mr. Schultz sense his regrets. So, we'll go ahead and call this special board meeting to order. Um, for those that are able, if you wouldn't mind standing for the pledge of allegiance. nation. >> We'll move to item three. There we go. Dr. Phillips. >> Thank you, Mrs. Wen. Uh even on this special board meetings we like to remind ourselves of our vision vision mission and core beliefs and BCSSE vision is that BCSSE is the choice to learn work and play. mission is to develop expert learners by partnering with our community to invest in people. And our core beliefs are that we all can rise to the challenge of high
expectations. That learning is most effective when we have choice, flexibility, and see relevance. That we thrive when our physical, social, and psychological needs are met. That our community and school district are stronger when we partner with one another. That we flourish because of the diversity and variability in our community. and that our democracy and democratic institutions are strengthened by civic-minded citizens. >> Okay. Um so tonight uh we will put to vote our um our contract with our teachers union. But before we go to vote, we want to give an opportunity for public comment. So I would invite anyone who would like to speak on this topic. Mike is getting the blue sheet just to make sure we haven't missed someone. There are no names on it. Okay. So, there was an opportunity to sign up
to speak. I have no names on that sheet. So, I'm taking that to mean that all of the people here do not wish to speak. And I'll make sure by checking over there. Okay. So, um with that, we will move ahead. Dr. Stub, >> thank you. If you could advance the slide there, we have the uh process that I explained during our last board meeting having those informal meetings in May. Our public input session in this room in September, formal bargaining process. We reached our tenative agreement on October 1st. That was voted by CA positively. They ratified that TA uh with their October 9th and 10th vote. to that percentage was 89.7%. Uh we presented the tenative agreement during our October 20th board meeting. That summary was posted on our website on October 15th. And
so folks have had plenty of time to answer questions. And then of course tonight we meet to ratify the contract. And if you would advance to that next slide, you'll see that same overview that we presented during the TA presentation stating again that this is a two-year agreement. What are our starting salaries and uh maximum salaries for the 2526 and 2627 school years with our base salary increases and some of those uh pay structures remaining unchanged. Additionally, there were some technical changes made throughout the collective bargaining agreement. We work with CAS on those. Uh things such as just aligning our practice with the language. A few examples, we prorrate days, your benefited time with the number of days you work in a contract. So, we place that language into the CBA. We had not had
it in there prior. Placed it in there. Deletion of some language that's not applicable anymore. Um, and really just looking through our CBA with that with that critical lens and saying, does this align with the practice the way it is right now? No substantial changes, and work through those together. So, with that, uh, I recommend that you vote to approve these changes to the 202527 collective bargaining agreement. >> I move that we um approve the the salary the the um contract negotiation agreement for the 2025 through 27 school year. >> Second. >> Thank you, Mr. Nellen and Mr. Major. Are there any questions or comments from the team before we go to a vote? >> I do have a question about the information that's in our packet. for my understanding. Um I first of all
I think as I understand it for a teacher to move up on the salary schedule they have to meet the three requirements of were they have having received an evaluation having been in working 120 days at least and participated in five hours of professional development. Um I am just wondering what what do the percents mean there? >> Yeah, the percents are regulated by herb and so we have to have our academic our evaluation and experience factors cannot account for more than 50% of our makeup of the increases. And so that really is just meeting the requirements from her. >> But to move up, a teacher has to have met all three of those requirements. >> And if they meet two of those requirements and not one, then they would only move up that percentage of
the increase. >> Oh, I see. Okay. All right. That helps. Thank you. >> Question. Any other questions, comments? Okay. A motion and second to approve the 25 to 20 senative ben tenative agreement. All those in favor please say I. >> I. >> All those opposed say nay. Motion carry 6. Congratulations. >> Thank you members of the board. I there's two things that are always true about negotiations for me. One, I'm glad when they're over. And two, I always we could have done more and there are years we can do more and there are years we can't and and I'm hopeful that in our next contract we'll be able to be happier with where we end up but appreciate all the time effort energy and conversations from members of the team Mr. Ster who who gave
up a lot of time to be to be there for all the negotiations and the entire CA team thanks thanks everybody >> uh upcoming meetings we have an executive session we will be moving upstairs to the boardroom. I think for that um it is one of those few items where we meet in private and is related to safety and security. Um and then our next regular board meeting is going to take place on November 17th in in this room. So with that meeting, thank you all.
