try that good evening hello I have 6:30 so we are going to go ahead and get started with our board meeting for all those that are able if you wouldn't mind Rising for the Pledge of Allegiance please to the flag of the United States of America and to the for it stands na indivisible jce for all thank you very much tonight we have an evening of celebrations think first of which oh I have my friends here we will call the meeting to order full board members present there we go Philips good evening thanks Mrs Weldon we' like to start each meeting uh by reminding ourselves and the public of our mission vision and core values our vision is that bcse is the choice to learn work and play our mission is to develop expert Learners

by partnering with our community to invest in people and our core beliefs are that we all can rise to the challenge of of high expectations that learning is most effective when we have Choice flexibility and see relevance we Thrive when our physical social and psychological needs are met our community and School District are stronger when we partner with one another we flourish because of the diversity and variabil variability in our community and last but certainly not least our democracy and democ Democratic institutions are strengthened by civic-minded citizens okay Mr Bryant and Mr Grimes will unfortunately be leaving us after tonight's Schoolboard meeting we'd like to take a minute to recognize them for their service Dr Phillips take this up here and walk around to this side thank you again Mrs Welden so um we want

to take this opportunity to thank two public servants uh who have given their time Talent treasure um and given up many uh Monday evenings here in this room over the years and we want to start with this recognition for Mr Todd Grimes on behalf of the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation we would like to recognize Todd Todd Grimes for four years of valuable leadership and devoted service to our students our faculty and the community and um certainly in this case Todd has given the last four years um always thinking about what's best for this community what's best for the people who work in the school district and more than anything else what's best for our students so please join me in sharing our appreciation for Mr Grimes and his four years of service to bcse [Applause]

yeah is that all right you can sit back down you up to you perfect good I want to go ahead and turn the uh lights on to my cat suit here before I said a few words uh this this suit is certainly nothing I would probably ever choose to uh acquire myself but this is a compliments with my aunt Susie who knew I'm goofy enough to wear it and thank you for being here and also uh my mother Linda for being here this evening and so what I when I thought about what to say here this evening there was no shortage of topics that that came to my mind and in spite of that fact and due to the fact that I'm actually quite tired and and want to be cognizant of people's time I'll

keep my comments brief I consider myself very fortunate to have served on the board these past four years after being elected the first time my plan was to possibly give it another shot for at least one more term I know I would much rather uh this be my last meeting because I either got beat in the election or because I genuinely sincerely did not want to serve another term however life circumstances dictated otherwise when I thought about ways to describe what it was like to serve as a school board member I must say the words easy nor boring never popped up in my mind timec consuming challenging thought-provoking rewarding and at times a bit unnerving were the descriptors that came to the Forefront most often I will also say it was an exciting four years

to be a board member as there was no shortage of stimulating things always taking place from those first days during the height of Co when I often thought I needed my head examined for choosing to come aboard at such a turbulent time to witnessing the positive benefits the passing of the referendum has brought and continues to bring to bcsc to the many exciting updates and building projects that are a part of Invision 2030 to the transition ing of Dr Roberts to Dr Phillips as superintendent all have contributed to my sense of gratitude for having been able to serve on the board for however much time I might have left I don't plan to become a stranger to bcsc I plan to continue to be an invested and interested stakeholder at bcsc and look forward to

following all the many moving parts of Invision 2030 as they continue to fall into place as a grandpa I'm also excited to share in the school events of our four grandsons best wishes to the corporation for a continued positive and productive future again I'm very grateful for the opportunity to have served on the bcsc school board it is been both a real pleasure and honor thank you [Applause] all right thank you Mr Grimes and thank you for your four years of service uh next we want to honor a man of few words um but a man who's um caring attitude and efforts for the kids of this community um could fill up a stadium three times the size of the one that we're going to rename later on today Mr Bryant has served as a

board member for bcse uh for 14 years but many of you know that for many more years than that he served as a DARE officer in our schools um working with kids day in and day out and I can tell you those kids absolutely adored Mr Bryant um and then many of you also know that he spent many of the last several years um standing and walking the public library um being a person who Not only was there to provide um I think I think his primary role would have been security but I think in many cases he was more like a community Ambassador for um not only just the public library but the whole kind of Downtown Plaza area there so um we're going to honor Mr Bryant as well tonight on behalf of

the baramu Consolidated School Corporation we would like to recognize Pat Bryant for 14 years of valuable leadership and devoted service to our students faculty and the community please join me in sharing your appreciation not only for Mr Bryant's service to bcse but to this community for decades [Laughter] [Music] beach beach okay just to say a couple of words here I don't feel like that I started my time with this school corporation 14 years ago it actually started in 1983 I was hired as a Jailer under Jim mckenny now for those of you who are under the age of 50 is a coral officer now I took a uh patrol car to tville elementary school and had the first graders and second graders crawl through it lights signs radio even gave him opportunity to use a

PA system to talk there was no talking there was all yelling in 1985 I started to just say no program at Taylorville Elementary School at the end of the year we would go to uh Kings Allen and the scarious ride was on the bus going through Mobly C and those of you who have been around for a while mly Cur was not like M Cur now it was curvy in 91 Sheriff man started the Dare program here I had of Course Taylorville and let me explain something telling you about Taylorville Taylorville is my school my father-in-law went there my wife went there her two brothers went there my daughter went there and my grandson went there so that's my school but we started the uh dare program in 91 I went from Taylorville to cross

Cliff to Hope Rock Creek Mount Healthy you all know it the s but you but it was at that particular time it was all Saint to me so I was there Columbus Christian St Peters ABC Stewart and white Creek Lutheran five years later we started the great program so I got to go into North uh north side and Central and I still did all those other schools Al and it was great it was fun it kept me young so to speak and when the position came available in 2010 I wasn't for sure if I was the right person for it I admit that a couple of the principles said I should apply couple of the teachers said I should apply and I was still sort of M I don't know about this it wasn't until

I went to norf and talked to a couple of students there and a young lady said Pat you see that kid over there thinking that he know how to dance he can spell rhythm but he has no rhythm you have to go and at least try to be on the board so I did so here I am so board members future board members go to the schools talk to the principls talk to the teachers but listen to the students because they're going to give you the direction that you really truly need to go for them and who knows if you stick around long enough some of those students may become attorneys some may become representative of city government some may come some of the best it people in the state of Indiana some may even

work on this board with you so I say to all of you as a good friend of mine used to say God love you and so do I thank [Applause] you okay these two have given us quite a lot of material to work with for roasting I'm not sure if fellow board members would like to say anything no okay well I will just close and say I'm inspired by both of you and I'm a crier and I'm also very tired so that's all I can manage to say right now okay maybe later you thoughts about me thank you both very much okay thank you next on the agenda we have mayor Fon here with a short presentation um just want to thank both the city and the Redevelopment commission for their continued support of bcse

um for our igrad program stim programs for our students and transition programs for special ed students um total impact over the eight years of this partnership has been over 13,500 students impacted by this partnership so mayor Fon so I don't need to say anything else do I so first of all it's a hard act to follow so Todd and Pat congratulations and thank you for all the years of service um as a fairly newly elected elected official I'm beginning to understand what that means um so thank you and yes you were my son's dear officer and the one thing missing from your resume resume seemed to be the Columbus Police Department so see me afterward and we'll get you set up so so I'm here today with the the check presentation and I know some

years we do the big check and some years we don't so here it is and the reason I brought it is because I think it's really symbolic of how important um the relationship is between the city of Columbus and Bartholomew County school system and I think your mission and I can't I can't quote it but your mission talked about Community Partnerships and that's what this is we are so proud of the work that barthol County School District does and we're proud of the fact that we can be part of it and so many people when they think about the Redevelopment commission you know just think of the infrastructure projects that we build the streets the utilities um the money that we give to um companies so that they can start here and that's a really

important part of what they do but their mission is economic development and developing our Workforce is just as important because our employers need employees who are skilled who have made it through high school and sometimes college and who are able to make their company successful so every year the fact that we are able to give money back from Tiff dollars to the school system for Workforce Development is a is a huge Plus for us and knowing that it goes for for stem because we are the stem capital of Indiana right um knowing that it goes for igrad because it's so important to get these kids through graduation and then for transition programming because every student in this city counts and we want to make sure that they're at a place in their life where they

can go on and be productive and be successful as an adult so um Dr Phillips it's not the real thing and we always make the joke about don't show up at any Bank and try to cash it but we on behalf of the um Columbus Redevelopment commission and the city council and the City of Columbus um we are thrilled to present you with this this large check which represents um an investment in the future of Columbus so thank you takeable where she yeah okay next we have I believe Dr Boseman Mr Miller while Mr Miller is coming to uh the podium uh in in accordance with board policy 7250 uh we have a a special presentation and consideration for you today I will I will mention very briefly it is a rare we don't name

things after people very often a BC so uh when we do you are among rare heirs so to speak and we're we're certainly um thrilled to have the opportunity to recognize a very special individual who contributed countless hours to this community I'll let uh Mr Miller speak more about that thank you Dr Phillips and the school board for allowing me to present a wonderful opportunity to recognize coach Gattis for the impact that he's had at Columbus East High School in alignment with bcsc school board policy I would like to bring consideration to the board in the naming of the football stadium Bob Gattis Stadium to honor his dedication to Columbus e High School coach gas dedicated 42 years to high school football accumulating 330 wins 212 of those at Columbus he High School his name

we make a decision as a team yeah amongst the board any questions from the board any questions from the Bo and then since we um since we're asking for a special approval we're required by Indiana code to take public comment before the board acts on any uh recommendation and so with your approval at this time any members of the public that want to chime in about this specific approval uh requested by Mr Miller may do so at this time okay thank you all those in favor motion second we do need motion I move that we approve to name the Columbus East High School football stadium after coach Bob gtis second I have a motion in a second to name the clemes high school football stadium after coach Bob gtis all those in favor please say

I I all those opposed please say nay motion passes 70 congratulations [Applause] thank you I was back here sweating on your vote thank you very much you know when David call me very honored it's humbling [Music] and first I want to thank my wife it's been a tough weekend lost my mother this weekend and I got to tell her about this honor but I want to gather myself I want to think you know this wasn't just me had great players a great Community you guys know that a great High School great bosses I had tremendous coaches our coaching staff second to n in the state um I believe that had great people to work for our players our families uh everybody got behind our vision I remember when Bill Jensen who I think every day

for bringing me here as as the principal and I remember when we sat in his office he's and and after he hired me and he said coach the reason you're here is because of your vision and it was a shared vision of of just doing what what this community can do and that was um create Champions so very fortunate right place at the right time again one of the without a doubt the best honor I've ever received so thank you very much [Applause] cool I can tell you a story about when we H this guys I was say I'm going to cheat and take a second since uh I guess I have the microphone so I can do that um rare um rare occasion to have uh to have the opportunity to honor a leader

such as Mr gtis coach gtis I don't think I've ever called him Mr gtis until just now the first time I've ever said that but um you know we talk a lot about um his accolades as a football coach and it's the reason of course that his name will forever be attached to that football stadium but but Bob gtis LED young men and women in this community um you know for well over a decade and uh two of them particularly close to my heart that he brought along but the reason I stood up here is just to do one thing and um you're not going to be very good at this at first you'll get better but when I when I say in honor of Coach Gattis give me two claps you're all going to

clap twice clap clap so in honor of Coach Gattis give me two claps that was pretty good for the first one was it let's do it one more time in honor of Coach Gattis give me two claps very well done thank you the recognitions continue Dr hack it is my honor to introduce Miss Lisa Haynes a truly exceptional educator whose recent accomplishments have brought well-deserved recognition to bcsc with 34 years of service to students and the last three years as a pioneering stem teacher Miss Haynes has influenced the lives of countless students she has taught computer technology skills bioscience coding and Robotics but more than that she brings stem to life with Hands-On engaging experiences for both students and staff this year her hard work and passion were recognized by with two distinguished honors the

there we had to bring some Hardware Main because it has Purdue on it and it's the only thing that was going well in Purdue this fall hey so Shameless Shameless I had to do it um again thank you so much for the opportunity to come here and to recognize these amazing young uh students of ours and our teacher just to give you a little indication about the central uh spell bow program uh since 2015 we have been in the state finalist which means we've been in the top 10 since 20 2015 in that time we have won a state championship in 2018 in 2019 and 2020 we were state runner up 2022 we were class state champion and 2024 this past year we were the class state champion and the grand champion of the state

of Indiana so um they have done a tremendous job this is just a few of the students who work on this the reason they are probably as good as they are is there was another group right behind them pushing them uh Mrs Summers will talk a little bit more about that group there's a group a whole group of them that this is their passion they love to do this I would not make the spell bow Team no way I just get the T-shirt because I'm the principal so um and during the [Music] [Applause] of of the year the course of time coach so I will give this to them and again they have done a great job to get to this point Thank you Mr P than you Mr a great to be here congratulations

to and to you as well we started the year with 30 started the [Music] year a big TR too many good manys 10s so I took 20 20 kids 20 kids after school that's a we formed two team two tee team and [Music] teams comp and we knew that if could beat each other we going to beat everyone else so the kids work really hard, 1400 words to learn 1,00 words hold up your hand if you had a perfect score at regionals or [Music] state you put up both hands a perfect score at both look at that awesome anyway regionals we had our blue team missed one word and our orange team missed two words um the iasp will only let us take one team to the grand championship you really would have had I

believe Grand Champions and the r have they let us all go which is super exciting this group uh right here we have seven correct six seventh graders and two eighth graders on the squad so next year the future looks bright as well um what I'm going to do though is I'm going to let them introduce themselves because that's why we're here right students I'm not much of a public speaker but I do love to stand up and stand with them and celebrate with them and um meet with them after school have some fun lots of laughs lots of silly and a super amount of hard work so your name and a little bit about why you spell um my name is Niara Kota and I love spelling on spell B because of like the teamwork

and the like feeling of like that Rush of Happiness when you win and I love the funny conversations we had during practice about the words on the list um my name is Katherine yanging and I spell partly because my dad forces me to and also because I just like like being in a team in a competition like a lot and I really liked um some of the things we did our practice and most of them are really goofy things hi my name is Glenda N I really like the experience on being spell because it taught me like the importance of hard work and how important like being a good team member is um many people like supported me and it just made me more competitive as like the whole season went on hi my name

is r and I like being a part of spell bow cuz it increases my vocabulary and also cuz I I like being part of this team um one of my favorite things about spell bable is the memories we made like during every practice mostly funny memories my name is HSA Ven manen and it was really amazing to see how finally all of our hard work and dedication paid off at the competition and my favorite part about spellow was the environment as it was super fun and like cozy environment and also it really helped hone my vocabulary my name is mugda jagti and I love being part of this team and obviously going to Purdue um I love like that thrill thrill of happiness that we got once we won Grand Champions and I'm really proud

of us for coming this far um hi my name is rck f Raj and I like spell bble because it was really nice going to Purdue and after like every practice like knowing how many words you got wrong and how many words you got right it was like a sense of accomplishment um feeling how far you got from learning like 1,400 Words which is a lot to think about but um we did it so I'm proud of all of us uh my name is AR fum and uh my favorite part of spell bow is probably the competition uh if you made a mistake you would like go down a level and um I like the feeling of like redeeming yourself and going back to where you were the place that you were at I don't

know what I do okay one last thing this is only a small part of the grand championship team the other part is sitting right over here the parents I guarantee you that most of the parents over here know 1,400 new words as well so thank you [Laughter] conratulations conratulations for to [Laughter] oh shoot okay um next we have Schoolboard member reports Mr Pat Bryant has nothing to share okay Mr major nothing new nothing new Mr Stenner I had a meeting with the business Advisory Group uh folks from the business Community who help uh Mr Edwards and members of the school corporation with uh questions and feedback on initiatives and ideas and plans uh the most recent meeting uh Dr hack presented on the irad initiatives uh moving the students uh through hoping to pass as

many as we possibly can uh there was good feedback from the business community and uh really a lot of interest in the work that's being done um the development of the literacy cadres at for of our schools um all the initiatives that we heard about um I think are impressing the community so it was a good meeting I don't have anything to report today Mr Grimes uh just super quick the uh the school Foundation uh did have a presence uh in Saturday evening's Festival of Lights uh parade the uh the lit up school bus school found B School Foundation bus was uh present and um even though this isn't a school board member uh report on the same topic um bcsc did have a very good presence in the uh in the Festival of Lights

parade and I hope I don't miss anybody uh the Central Middle School cheer team the C4 float excellent and also the great sounding of and presence of the sound and spirit of Columbus so thanks to all those bcsc participants in the Festival of Lights Parade Mr GES Logan uh nothing new for mine thank you so I went to a lot of committee meetings between our last meeting and this um first of all on November 21st um Mr Stenner was unable because of a conflict scheduling conflict to attend facilities in District so let me tell you a little bit about that a lot of it was about Envision 2030 which we've seen um but Mr Edwards did an update on the high school diploma possible changes he shared with us information and some of his concerns

about how it might impact our students and our staffing and and I'm assuming we will hear more about that as a board down the road um I guess the the big item the big ticket item at that meeting was um Mr giel and two CSA new Tech students um talked about their progress CSA NCH has been given the task of initiating and finding a name for the 12 Elementary School a task that I think we wisely put off on them um and they they in turn turned to the CSA elementary and middle schools um to come up with a list of possible names they were hoping for 40 to 50 names they got just over 120 names so now they are going back to those schools to to come up with criteria and a way

to narrow the the list down a bit so I I forget the date Mr BOS might know but later this spring it'll come back to us with a much shorter shorter list significantly shorter list um and on December 3D the IU Columbus Board of advisers met and a couple things from there they talked about the seamless admission process and bcsc is among the high schools our three High schol are among the schools that are part of that what that means is it doesn't change the admission requirements but it makes it simpler to apply because um IU Columbus coordinates with the school um counseling centers to get student data to them and partly because of that their enrollment for next fall is already 10% ahead of where it was for this this um and they also

talked about one of their goals is to enhance their Community Partnership and one of the ways they talked about doing that was with dual credit so um I don't want to I do want to put more on Mr Edward's plate I guess right right now we do a lot of dual credit um I know we have many many options for dual credit but I know we do a lot of it with ivtech and with IU Bloomington with the um Advanced College project I think that's what's called ACP program um there may be opportunities in the future for us and we may do some already that I'm not aware of do dual credit with our local U campus in the future and on December 4th the high ability broad-based planning committee met um testing for for

high ability um for next year we we talking about next school year begins in January training for the teachers around that testing is going on now in December and communication to parents goes out through parent Square um you are probably aware of this but just in case you're not um at bcsc we we test all of our kindergarten third grade and sixth grade students so that we don't miss anybody who might benefit from the high abilities programming that we have and we also test outside students coming into bcsc um many of those um I think the biggest block of those are ABC Stuart students who come in as seventh graders um and they talked about testing changes for next year um one of them is to we're piloting this year a different cognitive abilities test

that um the reason for pilent is it has a reputation of um being not as tied to language so it might be a benefit for identifying English language Learners that might not show up as high ability and another transition in testing um is the changes in I learn that the I learn test points that happen during the year will hopefully be coordinated into testing for Ability thank you Mr Nan he cabinet reports first Dr bosan good evening as Miss Milpa makes her way up to the front here just U as we mention we would uh the purpose of this uh brief presentation is to give you an update on the uh Community eligibility program that we elected to participate in starting this school year with our title schools uh so before Miss Ms Paul starts

I will remind you that she works uh nine or 10 hours a day and then prepare snacks and everything for us for our our evening event and then gives a presentation to boot on top of everything else so thanks Nancy thank you Dr Boseman uh and Dr buls and the cabinet up for allowing me to update you about uh our new meal program with c um it's called Community eligibility provision but I'm going to call it C because that's quite a mouthful so that's easier for me uh the first couple slides just are a reminder of the requirements to participate in this program um as of April 1st schools we look at the amount um you have to have 25% identified student population to be able to qualify and then if the schools qualify for

that requirement then you can serve breakfast and lunch at no cost up to four years uh this again this slide just talks about the the identified student categories that we look at it has to do with students who are directly certified for free through the snap or tth program homeless students run away migrant Head Start and Foster categories are what are considered the identified group that have to be over the 25% range we had four schools that qualified this year excuse me kpy Creek Elementary Lillian Schmidt uh Francis Smith and Taylorville Elementary qualified and we have been feeding free meals breakfast and lunch since August with them so this next slide just talks about the participation this is daily participation compared to to last year you can just summarize it basically we have had increased

participation in breakfast and lunch for all three months that we've been serving this is just to give a generally a financial comparison from July through October uh again this is revenue compared last year to this year so we have not had a loss uh in either year with that this is some testimonials from the principles at three of the schools that are participating uh Dr volz talks about the relief that the families have felt um having comfort knowing that their children are going to be fed Dr Detmer basically has told us that with kids getting more free with the meal service that they've had less food insecurity at their students and with their schools and U Miss day said that obviously kids can't learn when they're hungry so coming to school having the resources to

have the meals that's one less thing they have to worry about and then fewer kids are hungry during the day they've seen more engagement in the classroom and just less hunger throughout the day with them we will continue to monitor these these things and just see how it goes with the program so far we're not seeing any downside to it and hopefully um in April when we have another chance to reevaluate and look at the new data that will let us know about continuing or if there's a possibility add additional schools if they qualify with the identified numbers and sorry I'm jumping ahead are there any questions I can answer okay I have a couple questions uh one is on the qualifications correct me if I'm wrong but the 25% can either be at the

school level or the district level correct that's correct okay and then the one thing on the revenues versus expenditures I guess I I was under the impression this was going to cost but it looks like the Delta is actually widened in terms of so is that because we're just receiving far more federal funds or offsets than what we were anticipating because I guess I was expecting that Delta to close from our when we approve this am I misreading this they'll they will EB and flow so what we on the previous slide if you can click back one J or um so that is through uh from July until October um and we'll track that in those increments um so that representation there may not be and N Nancy can explain this on how she's bringing

in menu items and such um better than I can but those numbers will change so that's why uh we want to give that update now um just a snapshot um and we'll we'll keep tracking that so you want to explain that a little bit better than I did in terms of your your your expenditures flow um they're a little bit hard to predict and different because of your grocery items that you're that you're ordering and such yeah uh again this was the first three months that's a certain type of menu then we do uh a cyle menur so it's now going into the winter and so it we might have more expenditure on items it it just we just kind of have to watch it on a day-to-day honestly just like you do at home

with the grocery store you know sometimes eggs are cheaper sometimes they're not so it it we just kind of watch that on a a weekly and monthly basis yeah I think the only the only thing I would ask is when we do the April update is looking at what would that would look like if we added schools in terms of I know like right now it's based off a formula of how much qualified Direct and so what would that scenario look at more schools I know I've received a lot of feedback of like why did my school get this and not this school and I know this is the title one schools so that was a the obvious place to start but I mean we still have a lot of people I think you would

see that feedback across the district if either way so that's thank you we we we can sure do that so we did um we talked about this last June I believe when we had submitted our final approval we we expected that that Delta to be about 85 ,000 as I recall so so you're right we're trending to get a little hot right now but we'll see how that how that goes over the next few months so and once we have the full year then understand theen flow sure y thanks okay thank you very much okay Dr Phillips thank you and thank you Mrs Milpa we don't get to do this very often on the night that you come and present you also like Dr bosan said prepare our food so between Nancy Milpa and Tracy

Peele they prepared that amazing spread of snacks for us this evening so since she's here let's let's recognize thank [Applause] you and please share our thanks with Tracy as well thanks uh so each year since 2012 bcse has given stiens to um every permanent employee in the district every year we don't necessarily bring this in front of the board this was something this year we decided um you know it's been a while I think since we shared this information with the board it's not an approval item um it's something that we have uh um been doing again since 2012 but it's divided into two parts um the first part is teacher appreciation Grant back when this first started in 2012 I think it was called uh teacher performance re Awards is what it was at

the time um but now it's just a flat amount awarded to each School District based on your enrollment I believe it's $37.50 per student um for 2024's grout bcsc re received just over $426,000 we are required both by Indiana code and by the policy that this board approves each year to differentiate the stiped amount for certified teachers um between those teachers who received a score of four and those teachers who received a score of three on their evaluation from the prior year teachers who received a one or a two on their evaluation are not eligible for a tag stien unless they're in their first two years of teaching in the state of Indiana overall um and then bringing you back to 2012 at the time when they were considered performance Awards um leadership in this

District at the time including the board said we believe that every employee in the district contributes to Performance of our students and contributes to the achievement of our students and so at that time um identified let's let's find find some funds that aren't tag funds because those are set aside by the legislature only for teachers um but let's set aside some dollars and make sure that we can um provide a stien to each employee around this time of year to make sure they um understand how much we appreciate their work so um any permanent employee who's not eligible for a teacher appreciation Grant stien receives a um a stipend of $200 and that's also teachers who don't have an evaluation from the prior year so if you don't have a a performance evaluation from the

prior year by Indiana code you can't receive a teacher appreciation Grant and so we also provide a $200 stien there if you're a part-time classified staff member uh the stien is $100 and then directors managers and administrators receive the same amount as T tag stiens but again not from teacher appreciation Grant dollars so we want to share that information with you also share it with the public and then send an email out to the staff tomorrow that they can expect that actually uh later this week any questions about any of the the teacher appreciation gr teacher appreciation grants or the employee stiens that we' provided okay thank you now would be the time in the agenda for public comments um as a reminder if you ever want to speak at a school board meeting there's

a blue sheet uh when you walk in the door you can sign up to speak on a topic you'll get three minutes there's a few other rules I won't go through them today because we do not have any speakers signed up for this evening all right um under old business we request approval of items 10 a through 10 C the minutes from both the regular school board meeting from November 11th as well as the board work session for the same date and then also the executive session from December 2nd week ago this evening I move that we approve line items 10 a through 10 C as presented second thank you Mr Schultz and Mr Nolan or Nan sorry Dale any questions or comments from the board on items 10 a through C okay all those

through G or sorry FG and H are permissioned to receive bids for the three projects that we uh presented on at the board work session on November 11th we request approval for items 11a through 11h real quick yeah if if we could do a a through G and just take the H out do you want make a motion for that yeah a strike right yeah just we can just do a motion for through G I move to approve a through G thank you second okay I have a motion and a second to approve items 11 a through G any questions or comments from the board before we go to a vote no okay all those in favor please say I I I all those opposed please say nay motion carries 7 Z thank you and

field there's also things great things that happen off the football field and I had the opportunity to um go to the production of Mean Girls that East put on the East performing arts department and um kudos to all of the students and staff involved in that I know it was a lot of work and it was a lot of fun to to watch them perform um I also wanted to mention we already congratulated but but um I want to call out Lisa Haynes and Mindy Summers um with spell bow and um the stem that they both not only dedicate time to their students during the day but but when they're done with a complete day of school they stick around after school and and work on their um their with their teams um and as

extracurricular events and i' like several board members had a chance to actually um see Lisa Haynes in action with her students and and that's when she really shines because um like any good teacher it's not about her it's about them and you could really see that when we got to see the the robotics team in action uh similar just congratulations everyone congratulations to Pat and Todd and all the wisdom that you uh put on us and especially me I know I've talked with both of you individually and uh gained a lot of wisdom through that time um I also want to thank the teachers that are preparing for holiday break a lot of them are wrapping up classes and semesters to get ready and so I know there's a lot of extra efforts on them

and uh just making it special for the kids um all mine are at Southside and I know they've been doing several festivities to go into the final weeks and uh we got two more to go before holiday break so thank you I just want to say thanks again um for the last time for the last four years I know I'm very grateful uh for the chance to have been on the board and I always knew or always thought in the back of my mind uh giving the board giving it a try when I retired from teaching was always something that was kind of in the back of my mind and um you know it turns out now I'm glad I didn't wait because I would have missed out um on this opportunity to have served

the last four years um excellent meeting to go to go out on with all the celebrations and positive uplifting emotions I hope we all had a chance to experience a little bit of here this evening and um I'll just uh close out with a couple of uh rather lame attempts at some holiday humor um at Santa Claus's expense so I will apologize in advance to Santa um who does Santa call when his sleigh breaks down abominable toe man what what's Santa's favorite potato chip Santa's favorite potato chip crisp Pringles that's almost a tongue twister crisp Pringles and then lastly um what did Santa say and it's not what maybe what you think he might have said but what did s what did Santa say when he stepped in a puddle when Santa stepped in a

puddle it must have reindeer must reindeer yeah I'm tempted but I I'll stop thank you okay I have composed myself a bit from the beginning so I would like to say a couple of things um about our board members um I will start with Mr Bryant who is the strong and Silent type and I'm sure is looking forward to this be the last evening where I call on him and ask him to participate and he glares at me across the table um I want you to know I did it because I always learned something from you Pat thank you for that um I think Todd is a good example you can be goofy and capable all at the same time so you can't sit next to Todd and and serve with him without just being

affected by the energy and the love for Education that he has um he's always open to new ideas he was plugged in with everybody I am convinced he knows little literally everybody in the school corporation um thank you guys both for sharing your gifts with us uh all night long as I've been looking at the back of our little name tags here the words together we learn um have been meaningful to me um these last years that I've served on the board with Mr Grimes and Mr Bryant I have learned a lot from each each of them and um my promise to them and to everyone in the school corporation um all the citizens and voters in the school corporation is that I will continue to try to use what I've learned from these two

gentlemen as I continue to serve the school corporation thank you both yeah thank you to both Pat and Todd the work that we do here is clearly one because we care about what we do it's not not that we're going to get rich in any way shape or form and the the headaches that I can only imagine you all endured during the covid time you know truly show that you really care about what you're doing because you weren't getting paid to deal with the meetings with 400 people in this room so those those certainly were trying times and tested your will and so thank you for standing up and and sticking it through and and serving the community in the ways that you have um two other things real quick I wanted to just highlight

it both East and North over the last month you've seen something that you wouldn't have seen 20 years ago and that's girls wrestling and so as a former coach at East it's a big deal to me to see wrestlers and uh out there and to have girl wrestling uh it's it's a huge thing to see in in Indiana especially with it being one of the fastest growing Sports in the state so that's awesome so great job for all the coaches that are willing to go out there and Coach uh the the girls that are willing to try a sport that they probably haven't tried before um so great job there and then the last thing I want to do is just wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year um you know it's

a couple weeks in advance but uh probably won't see you guys all till then till afterwards and just wanted to make sure that I highlighted that and make sure everybody that's traveling uh wherever you're traveling whatever you're doing you do that safely and most importantly um you know I mentioned this a couple people today this is the third anniversary of my mom's death and so I understand that uh Christmas is special so make sure that the family and loved ones you have with you you try to enjoy the time with them sometimes it's hard to do because we all Drive each other crazy but I wanted to just make sure that uh this this Christmas hopefully you try to enjoy that time with them a little bit more so thank you first I want to

uh I thank my wife for 44 years for putting up with me and then I'd like to thank my daughter for her support um I remember one time at crosscliffe I was there and one of the uh my wife co- employers came in and told my my wife that she was dropping her son off at crosscliffe and she said oh the sheriff car is here and he leaned up from the back seat looked at the car and said oh that's just Pat I I like that can you call me Pat from now on yes Pat I will thank you Merry Christmas to you all Mrs will if I could just for a moment um couple of Reflections um the the sustained effort I mentioned this before about north tennis team when they were here before

and I think I've sent that to you before in a note but the sustained effort that it takes to um do something like the the central spell Bowl team did with Mrs Summers for 10 consecutive years Mrs Haynes for a shorter period of time but like she said you know our dedicated staff do this all the time they bite off more than they can chew like like Lisa said and then they stick with it and show um help lead kids as an example and I said that to say that both of these men at the table that we've honored tonight for their years of service modeled that for the way that they served this board this community and the kids of this District Todd for the four years in ways that that I won't even

begin to understand the difficult um the difficulty and continuing to to serve this community Through tough times and Pat sitting at this table through some of the most um contentious and controversial things that this community has handled in the last decade and a half um and did it with poise and strength and silence in in most cases so thanks to all of those folks I I failed to mention earlier I started to say it and then I missed it we had two members of the Indiana Football Hall of Fame up there at the same time tonight so both Mr uh coach gtis and Mr Miller are both members of the Indiana um uh Indiana Football Hall of Fame I do want to mention I don't know that we've done a good job of this in

this in the district of mentioning that our athletic teams have done a a really good job of getting us a rivalry week for winter sports so next week every single one of our winter sports except for one that doesn't start until January anyway plays next week so Tuesday is swimming swimming Dive North versus East uh Wednesday is both boys and girls wrestling Thursday is girls basketball and Friday is boys basketball you can watch the IU game on your phone if you go to the basketball so come to to North for that game and then um wishing thank you Mr major for pointing out the fact this will be our last meeting until we get together next year and and um welcome our two new board members and so to everyone in the community happy holidays

and in the words of one of our young ladies on the spell Bowl team I hope you experience a rush of Happiness like like those kids did uh over your break together with your families thank you B okay I believe our next meeting is here January 6th at 6:30 p.m. with that meeting adjourned thank you
