Regular board meeting school board of educational knockoff time is 6:00. First item of the agenda is rollpril. And Mr. President, I think we're going to have to speak extra loud tonight. We did. Of course, when this meeting was planned this day a month ago, we didn't know we would have district. >> Apologize for that, but lot we can do about it. Moled pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America today. We have a couple people that are remote and uh I think our presenter from live work is not able to be here. So this kind of it's not changing the agenda or pres second by favor. I Motion carries going on approval of sign of and signature of minutes for regular board date January 13 2026 is there any questions there's no

questions our motion >> motion by second by all in favor >> motion carries none public comment is anyone sign anyone here Okay. Why not? Or information discussions go on teacher presentation Julie. That's not fact she's on. So we'll let her just I know now. >> Okay, let's sing. Uh members of the board, Superintendent Kushman, um as far as our CT updates, we have had a lot going on. Uh in January, we talked a little bit about how we had an upcoming CTSO day at the roundhouse. And so, um we had FFA, HOSA, BPA, and FCCLA officers in attendance. Uh as you can see here, they met Representative Susan and they also met Representative Rebecca D. Um he there's a proclamation that identified January 30th as CTSO day for New Mexico. So it's honoring all students

in our careerful student organizations. Uh also during the legislative session we had our STEM students that are in the engineering pathway with a rocket launch the systems go program. Uh so they were asked to advocate for house bill 100 which was a bill that was in place to strengthen STEM across the state of New Mexico. and our students are recipients of a grant, the STEM grant that we had 23 issued throughout the state. So, we're one of them. >> We just received the um suburban through the innovation zone grant and this again is part of our uh innovation CTE hub here that we have uh happening at him public schools. And so we're very fortunate to have received uh the Suburban to continue to close that gap that rural students face uh in traveling to

work-based learning opportunities, internships, academic opportunities, and so forth. Um we have results from our recent state competition for business professionals of America, which is another one of our CTSO programs. And so, um, I'd like to begin with recognizing our Lightbrook Middle School team that qualified for nationals. It's a digital game design team. They placed third. Uh, it consists of Jesse Garcia, Alex Brown, Deshawn Jim, and Trey Lopez. So, we're really excited and proud of them. Uh, they worked really hard in uh, placing third. We have at Toronto Middle School a website design team that plays first. So we have Laya Chavez, Kyra Lang, Bailey Duran, and Austin Nelson. And uh if you are here, if you could please stand as I'm calling your team. Uh for our middle school level, we also have video production.

Richard Garcia's team place first. So that's Richard Garcia and Vicente Velasquez. secondary level. We had a virtual event. Move on to top 20. So, Anelissa Garcia just presented February 17th. So, currently she's top 20 in the nation and virtual multimedium promotion individual. And so, is Emily here? She's working some sessions. So, they wear any hat. secondary level economic research individual. We had Malaysia placed third and she wasn't able to be with us but secondary level computer animation team received second place. That's Ethan Vanto, Skyla Martinez, Janelle Martinez, and Naomi Velasquez. secondary level digital media production individual. Mia Gaya goes place first and I was notified this morning that she's also being awarded a scholarship from Eastern New Mexico University for this event. >> And then we have our Pro team secondary level they play third

and at the parliamentary procedure team we have Ocean Murphy who's the president Ariel Salasad is the vice president Mia Gagos is the secretary and Emilissa Garcia is a member we were also recognized as a silver level chapter uh so we received a chapter distinction award as a Coronado Middle and Coronado High School chapter. So, in addition, uh our schools were recognized during the the uh banner ceremony and so we just have a little snippet from uh the banner that went across stage. We also Coronado was in charge of the conference and review video for the state conference. And so at the end of the conference, the students produced a video highlighting uh all the events, the keynote speaker and so forth. And so they produced the conference and review video uh during the closing ceremony

and received many uh positive comments, remarks, and so forth. We also have just a few clips of uh the the conference, our students preparing for competition. We had Mr. Kushman. Thank you again for for showing up and giving our students a little pep talk before their event. Uh so it was nice to have you there. Uh we also have uh students that were voting delegates that worked with the state officers running for office. And so they went through and interviewed these officers and then eventually submitted a ballot. Uh as you can see here, we have a couple of our students that make the national um conference program for the upcoming conference in Nashville. So we have Malaysia and Santos. Uh they're pictured there for one of the uh workshops that will be taking place in

Nashville. Uh also during the conference we had Miss Truhill recognized for her years of service in education. So uh it was a thank you for your years of commitment, leadership and impact on students. Your dedication to education has made a lasting difference. And so BPA recognized her while we were there. >> And this is our entire group. Life Brook Middle for Middle and Formato High School students that represented our school at the state conference. February is CTE month and so our upcoming events we have the FCCLA state competition happening March 30th through April 1st. poster will take place April 9th through 11 and the FFA conference will take place April 6 through the 8th >> and those are all the updates we have at the stone room. >> Thank you. >> I want to say

it was good to be there. I don't know that the young people are too thrilled that I was there. made someone nervous that it was a lot of fun. Our kids are very very respectful. They were working hard all over the place. One of yours Jesse was very adamant about showing me around knowing his expertise in his third year as an eighth grader and so that was pretty neat to see those kids involved and you all did a good job. You're representing our community very well. Thank you. >> Thank you. Alberta Julian was able to get online. I don't know if we want to go back to her do a presentation that all right. Miss Julian, if you can hear us and want to do your presentation, >> I'm here. >> We'll hear from you

now. If not, you can wait till next month. >> I'm here. >> It's all yours. >> Okay. Um, I did a I did do a whole um presentation that was ready, but I couldn't. Um, Sean isn't there, so um I don't know how to share it to you guys. >> Yeah. Would you prefer to wait till the 10th and do it then when we have Sean back or do you want to delay ahead? Um, >> I can do it until next month. Is that if that's fine with you guys. Okay. So, let's just do that when you can be when we get you online and see your work. Okay. >> Okay. Thank you. >> All right. Thank you very much for your help. >> All right. Thanks. >> I should have mentioned Sean is out.

He's been out not feeling well and it'll be back hopefully. I >> just said she could be in person. >> Oh, yeah. if the glasses do this. >> Okay, moving on. Number two, principal reports middle high school and G Elementary principal. Okay. >> Uh good evening, uh everyone. Uh Mr. chairman, board, board members, uh, Superintendent Kushman, uh, I'm sorry I couldn't be there this evening, but I'm in Albuquerque for uh, for a workshop with our science team. So, first of all, I just want to start with our staff in uh due to some um ongoing things in Lightbrook. Miss Charlie, who's EA at uh at uh Coronado, he's uh working at uh Liebrook, helping out until uh they get that uh situation figured out. Uh the building custodians continue to work and maintaining the building,

clean and making the necessary repairs. uh enrollment it's I broke it down there. You can see where elementary got 51 students, middle school 23, high school 52 for the total of 26. But this past week we got a couple more students which brings the total to 128. So that's uh a positive thing that the enrollment is going up. Uh PD this past month uh Dr. Matt Williams came and provided math PD with our elementary staff on standard alignments and that's an ongoing uh uh PD that we'll continue doing till the end of the year. Um we have uh now this month we have uh CES working with the elementary uh teachers as well on math and learning the the uh standards uh teaching new strategies. Um that PD was cancelled due to um we were

not in school but it's rescheduled for March 2nd. Uh testing Mr. Mame is currently working on the access testing which is the window will open up next week. The 90-day plan. I got a a meeting with our uh person that helps us on on Thursday. We're going to hopefully finalize the the 90-day plan. Uh it's been completed, but we just need the her uh to approve it. Uh the student data and uh I got documents down below. uh the upcoming events uh February 17th those already passed. So we had an AVID uh team uh uh PLC that occurs every every week. Um so down to the to the data the Ira station you can see that uh the reading from the mi from the beginning of the school year to the middle of the school

year. Uh there was some um some growth in some areas, but we kind of went down in others. Uh if you see the our eighth graders, there was a a big improvement there. Seventh graders improvement. Our um sixth grade class kind of went down a little bit. Um fifth graders, there was an improvement as well with fourth. Um so there is some improvement in our in our reading our our math scores again there was some improvement in some areas but in some areas we kind of went down a little bit and that's our I already uh data our uh masa IMASA uh data also shows there were some growth in our from the middle of the year from the beginning to the middle of the year in reading and in language usage. Our math scores

kind of stayed uh uh stagnant a little bit. There was not much uh movement there, but um overall uh we're kind of making uh uh progress towards the the beds. So, we are moving forward uh in in those areas. Um, I believe that our professional development that we've had going on uh since the beginning of the school year with our teachers have uh showed some uh some growth. So, that's a positive thing. Um, that's all I got for you folks tonight. Um, I stand for any questions. >> Any questions? No questions. Thank you. >> Thank you. Have a good evening. that um my board report is basically um a summary of the year. So the first page you've already seen in the past. It's just highlights for the um semester and events that we've had

um cultural events, so on and so forth. And then a review on the page two for the 90-day dash plan. um it hasn't changed this school year. So, we're going to keep trying to have in-house professional development and to also do our um we're doing now a schoolwide PLC and just like Mr. Hawkins was telling you about going over data. If you would like to see data, I could let you see that. Um, we did find out that um, teachers wanted to do NVA and that's usually done like just for a screener, but they wanted to do it for data because we wanted to triangulate all of our data points. And so we found out that NWA has higher uh, results than um, Amira, which is used station. And so um now we're meeting as

a PLC to look at individual students and places that they are not very strong so that way we can start grouping. And then right after lunch there's a 1-hour um section where all the kids are being grouped into different um um their abilities and then we teach them that way. So that's what's going on. We just I just finished asking for if there's any funding for noise cancelling headphones because we were listening to some of the recordings on the mirror. You can hear the kids reading. And so we had one student who started out at a lower level of reading, but then the um mic picked up the student right next to him who has a higher level of reading and it measured him. And so when we looked at the data, we we were

kind of throwing up our hands because our data is now skewed. And so we're going to look at that. Amira goes every month and so they're scheduled um in September and then they're scheduled again in December. We ask for December before they go on on a Christmas break and they come back and then they're they just out of Christmas break. So um so that that's what our data points are going to be. And so we're going to also look at the um study carols and then try to figure out even smaller groups to test at one time. So that's that's that. You heard most of that from Mr. Hopkins. Um and then on page three, the um language and culture division visited Liebrook on December 10. And so some of the findings are there on

the bullet points. U things that we need to work on our Navajo language instruction and I've worked with a few people across the state who can help me to um pinpoint some of the things that we need to improve. the EL class. We started our EEL class which is kindergarten through 8th grade. We only have one teacher who is T-OLE endorsed on her license. So she takes all 15 ELEL students from the school and has them for an hour of intervention. And so um that's another um I guess a unique problem that we have a challenge. And so uh when they came we we did get the letter of what we were in shortcoming of and we're working on that. It's mostly records like notifying parents about uh EL status and whether we tested them

and stuff like that. So, we're following up on that. Um successful community suggestion. There was the attendance. I was so excited. December improved and then um let's see Thursday I think our attendance was 29 and then today our attendance was 41. So 40 49 sorry 49 because I do snacks every day and I count how many kids are there by the time I do snack that's at 145 and so how many survive until 1:45 and don't get checked out so that's my record and so we're still pushing we're still pushing um attendance and then our enrollment I thought it was really interesting just to see um the the trend of enrollment every month so there's our numbers and so right now we have 65 and then um The last part of page three is the

bus services and that's literally just a review of the whole year because they libra got a brand new bus in the first part of April and so on the dirt roads I I went on the on the route and then um in the morning I went on the route and then the day after the afternoon I went on the route and that's the funny part that the roads were so bumpy that the radio came off and the speaker came off and all that. So, that's been fixed, but we still have a new bus and so we're trying hard to take care of them and everything else. I went to the counselor chapter house meeting and I reported on page four there's a picture with the red dot and that red dot is probably a hole

about the as big as the well it's not a dis but as big as the the desk there. Um, so what I did was I asked uh for it to be marked that way they can do some fill in because the bus literally goes um sideways and then goes through because they have to pick up one student there. And so um the the fun part for the students is that they all get to go sideways. But the other part is like that's not okay for a bus to do when they're picking up students. And so I asked the counselor chapter house if they were able to at least put some fill in for that and so that way we can take care of our our roads. Um, and then let's see on the middle of

page four, the Johnson report. Those are the meetings that we've had and the result of the meetings. And so most of them were no quorum and no meetings. So we're still trying to recruit. I've tried to make it really simple to be on Zoom. And I've also had parents um I and you can attend on your phone if you want to as long as you have a schedule. And so, um, we have a list of regular meetings and then we have a list of makeup meetings. And so, that way we we just keep having them and we're just still trying to plug away. We did do the, um, the survey for JM. And this year, we got back 22 because like I said last time, I I made the parents do them before they got

uh before the kids got to sing. And so, we got back 22 uh surveys when before only one or two would come in. And so, um, it it was a good turnout. Um, so there's the meeting dates. On page five is the capturing kids hearts update. And then, um, other good things that are happening at Lightbrook. Again, those are, um, updates. Uh, Mr. Hawkins and I have been working together on the equity council. So, we we still need to um have that more active. So, hopefully it's like a month and it'll be district-wide. Um, and I said, "We'll probably do Zoom because it's really difficult to have a monthly uh student meeting or a business meeting, community meeting." Um, and then it's really neat. We have a fifth grader leader in charge of doing the

pledge of allegiance and announcements in Navajo. He has his own little thing and he goes and recruits the students that he has and he guides them and it's really neat. So, I just let him take it because first it was a teacher and then I said, "Well, he's really good." And so then um he would tell them and he would he would say you know um good morning Eagles and this is like most of what I know uh good morning yen and then you know please stand for the pledge of allegiance and then he says it in Navajo and so stuff like that and I'm like holy. So that's really really nice to hear on on the loudspeaker. We did get a big compliment from a mom. Um and then we did our presentation at

the winter program. You already know about that. So, um, improvements. Um, you do know that there are the three spots on top of the hill that have electricity, water, and sewer. And then on the last page, um, oh, sorry. And then the the principal housing now has uh, gravel there. It just needs to be laid out. So, these are like things I get really excited about. I have gravel and then the it can be it can be laid out for a permanent basis. And so, um, my my hope is that, um, I'll be able to come back next year and to be able to to still be there, um, where that, um, spot has been made. >> That's right. It's recording. >> Um, so, principal duties, this is basically, you know, I I like being

in the small school. I like being a hands-on person. And so, these are the things that I do throughout the day, um, if if it needs if there's a need for it. And so, um, as you read through that, you'll kind of see the the life of what's going on. Um, this Friday will be our next Roadrunner Food Bank, um, day. We're still And so, I'm trying to work with the chapter house to see if there's a way that we can combine that because I think theirs is like 5 days before ours. And so, we don't have that many families come to ours. And so, I said, well, why are we wasting resources? Why can't we join resources? So, I'm trying to figure out that um this is supposed to be the the middle of

the page JMSD staff schedule for Library Campus and it hasn't been consistently kept. So, I'm I'm telling every single person um are you going to be here today? You know, are your schedule today? Uh how about today? And so, that's part of that that um it's it's that individual person that I'm trying to hold accountable. And then our final concerns. Um, we're still waiting for a teacher. Um, and you can read the whole thing. I won't read it to you. And Lie Brook had a coyote. Uh, but is that was the middle of January. It's because of the fence. So I talked to um maintenance and the stray dogs. And so part of it was the cultural belief around the coyote that was the concern also because it was um on the other side of

the playground. If you've ever been to the the campus, it was on the other side of the playground early in the morning and so it was like, well, okay, we need to get that out of here. So, um the fence is being looked at and then um the sewer is still backing up. The maintenance guys did come out today to check it out. Um but I think they're coming tomorrow again. So, that again um I told the counselor transfer house audience that it it literally was years of neglect by the person that was there before. So that's that's just something that we're trying to fix now. So ask questions. >> Any questions? >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Going on number director's report is in concessions. They're taking care of district games and the girls

have a home game tomorrow. And if they win tonight, when they win tonight, and when they win tomorrow night, if it works out, we might have more home all games. So stay tuned. Uh depends on the ranking of their opponents. >> It' be a six. I think all district games have to be at six. >> Okay. Moving on. Number four, John. >> He's out. But I can tell you that we continue to have internet issues every time we get any amount of moisture. Uh it's fine if it freezes hard and then as soon as things thaw out a little bit there's moisture in the lines off campus which causes us hitting this internet especially on this campus. I believe you've done much better at library and newer systems out there than we do here. Sean

is continually working with the bank. I don't know. I don't have any other technology updates for you. Okay, moving on to something. >> I'll take that one as well. um water had frozen in the teacher uh off and on for a few days and uh when it was so cold that real cold snap we had that's something we hope to address with the PSFA projects going forward but uh I guess it happens every year that we get below zero or close to zero that's an issue um the gate playgrounds are stalled until things dry out thought out a little bit But uh there's a lot of progress to be made on those. Hope to get those up and running in the next few weeks. Guess I mentioned the sewer system at Book has been ahead

for everybody lines and plug up. It it's almost like we think there's some collapse by somewhere in the system. I do talk to you Jeremy about getting a TLC or one of these companies out here with a longer camera system to go down. Check that out. You already heard the array for the gravel that's going to be spread out soon. Maintenance plan was uh way overdue and the guy from PSFA came out this last week and helped get it up to date and I need your signature before I forget. Um there's no approval by you necessary on that. that you've seen and uh we need that that's the first big step in uh me presenting at public school facilities and PSC try to remember the whole public school >> I don't know the funny >>

and Elise Ron was helping us with those presentations she used to work at PSL her a few months ago And then as soon as they give me the official date, I'll be in Santa Fe or Albuquerque or wherever they're holding doing a pretty formal presentation. And they said it's good if some of your staff and students can go to just be an audience there during that time. So we'll probably be talking to our CTB kids, you know, about attending those presentations for PC. So that's all I made. That's any questions. >> Moving on to business office programs. Business office. We've been busy closing out the calendar year. We got all the W2s, 1099s, all of that done for all the employees. Um we're of course now starting to look at bundle splitting getting ready for

next budget year. So every meeting probably I'll finally do the budget update so that we'll keep you guys informed and I also talked to the finance committee about doing another maybe Saturday morning budget training like we did last year for new showing between the funding process how the revenue is generated how the funds are allocated special uses are things like that so I can get with with Mr. to see if we can find a day when that would work and schedule something like that or before a board meeting even though that might be better to tell before a board meeting. So get some feedback from me all to see what works best for the next month or so after we get the unit values set which will be in March when they have that budget

conference they'll have the legislative presentation and they'll give us the unit value maybe before then but until we know what their unit value is it's hard to set a budget other than they're just warning you know it's not going to be good so we already know that so that's what we're planning on is not not a lot. Um we did have to do a calendar revision um to show because we went away five days with uh on remote learning. If you go four it's okay but if you go five and we went five days so we had to get a waiver. Mr. The crystal sign away extend. And then it's supposed to go to the crowd. You're supposed to do it too. But I think it takes a while because of the animal.
