001board meeting school board of education come to the time is 601 >> Robert Sandra and Elmer Huset Martinez. >> Okay. >> Thank you, Mr. Could you do the pledge to the flag of the United States of America and to the rep for it stands one nation indivisibley and justice for all. Mr. President, I recommend approval of the agenda as presented. Okay, we have a motion. Motion by Robert. >> Second by. >> Motion carries. Moving on to approve approval signatures of minutes for later board meeting, 2025. Any questions? motion. Second by Luc. Oh, I'm sorry. We're trying to clarify something here. Presentation. >> Okay, we will start. We have several people missing tonight from the staff as our training in Nashville and five people at CTE conference. So, as we go down the list open for
002discussion. So, okay. So why not board information and discussions letter board recognition Mr. Robert Hill years 10 years of service. I think the plaque only speaks to eight. Yeah, it's two terms. So there's a mistake on the black, but we're already taking care of it. >> Thank you. all the years that you're on the board and get a lot from the district. So, we appreciate >> Mr. President. I'd recommend you open uh to any of our guests here in person that would like to say anything. If there is anybody take a short recess to enjoy some refreshments together in celebration of celebration or recognition not sure it's celebration retirement your retirement recognition of your retirement. Is there anybody like to say anything? >> I'll just say thanks to everybody in the supporting my kids that
003they're with me through the whole team. Uh there's times I missed the basketball games, track meets, whatever because I was here. So, um if anybody suffered while I was here, it was them. So, I appreciate their support. and uh the support of the community, the board. Mr. Kushman, now that he's here, I think Robert, I appreciate your leadership on the board. And when I was considering back into the school world, um as you know, my wife and I were discussing various districts at that time and it was supposed to be a short time. you told me only till the end of June. So he tricked me with this or something. I'm not sure what, but uh we prayed about it, decided to come on and a lot of that had to do with the conversation
004had that very first evening and I appreciate the confidence you placed in me to be here and it's been a pleasure to serve with you even though it's just a short time. >> I appreciate it and uh like I said, I know you guys will be great. So our kids in good hands, appreciate it. Thank you. With that, we'll take 10 minutes, 15 minutes refreshments. We have some refreshments back there. Enjoy the cupcake on behalf of Robert, I guess, or two or three. Just for a little bit. Moving on to letter B, business office report in Greece. Um, we don't have a lot of unusual activity to record. Um, we want to welcome Anna to our team business office and I appreciate having her. I know you guys do, too. So, we looking forward to
005being here and she's already jumped in and taken up. So, we're excited about that. >> Thank you. And we're still waiting for the state auditor to open up the audits again. I did talk to Mr. and um he's he's pretty much finished with ours. He just has to send some stuff in and it's still on hold for um till January 20 actually. I think I reported that the last time. Um we have some grants that we're closing out December 31st. So, we're trying to close all of those out, get requests, and we're going to be working at the end of the year, course the year finance of WTS 10. That's the usual stuff at the end of the year. So, that's all we have to question. >> Okay. Thank you. Moving on to letter C,
006teacher, staff presentations. I like it. That bea Mononttoya is online. She's going to be presenting for her teachers. There she is. You're near. So, >> right. Waiting for you to finish. Um I'm at the game for Libro and I'm um collecting for the gate. So, I apologize for background noise, but just really briefly um I'll start with the grades. Uh, PreKK had an evaluation from ECCD and um, we'll have a follow-up meeting next week for them to um, give us the feedback that they observed in the classroom. But the students are doing well. They're doing consonant bell, consonant words, and their counting and social skills are improving. They're doing simple addition. Uh, first through fourth grade are very proud of their hydroponics. And um fifth and sixth grade are reading the novel The Adventures of
007Don Ciote and EL classes going well because um our fifth sixth grade teacher is the EL teacher and they're working hard on setting up a successful intervention enrichment with groups to help the students advance from where they are now. um seventh eighth grade made their first and second place with the digital game design at BPA regionals and they qualified for BPA state competition um this next February and then um testing is this week but it's it's got a rocky start because of how many people are gone in the district it's difficult for us to fill um I have three more items and I'm trying to make this as brief as possible and I didn't put in the written in case you're looking for that. Um, but we had uh two students win the Patriots pen
008essay from the BFW post in Shiprock for the Veterans Day and the students are um going on to districts. So, a sixth grade student won first place and a fifth grade student won second place. And then we also had a teacher win the um let's see, where is it? National Citizenship Education Teacher Award and she's advanced to districts. So, if they win the districts, they're going to get awarded um for state January 17 in Albuquerque at a banquet and then we'll also have a small um uh ceremony for them here at the school. Um, the last thing, Lie Brook hosted the Eastern Navajo Nation Agency meeting in collaboration with the counselor chapter. And so we had over here in attendance at our gym um from eastern chapters including the Navajo Nation vice president. And so
009this was a successful event that also helped out the library BPA group who served lunch and um it was as a fundraiser. So, Senator George Mun Munos had um paid for that for all of the chapter delegates. So, um that's a very very brief um presentation for you. I do have more from my um my schoolboard report as principal. So, as you can hear, the game's going on right now. So, um I will conclude and uh stand for questioning. >> Thank you. Okay, none. I don't see so I'm not sure what happened there. So I guess we'll postpone her until next month. We'll let her principal reports. >> Oh, is she online? Melanie might be online. So I guess she's online. >> Yes, I'm online. Um, so I was doing for cross country this year.
010Um, we did we had a good season. Most of my athletes, they prred, which means personal record. They beat their times. Um, I had one student make it to state, uh, Eli Martinez. He, his personal record at state was 19 minutes and 53 seconds for 3.1 miles. Uh, so he did pretty good. Um, and that was it. >> Thank you. Yeah, principal reports. Uh, Mr. Hawkins submitted his written report. He is in Nashville CPE conference, so he was not able to see. I can try to answer any questions you might have on this written report. >> No. Going on to real quick. Is there a Christmas tree lighting or something? Where's my boss? >> Yes, it is. There will be one at 6:30. >> It's all of you, but you know dayto day it's Patricia.
011So, yes, there is a Christmas tree lighting and we're going to beta. Don't forget VA back there. Fast time. She's here so early this morning. But what time did you say? >> 6:30 for the Christmas tree lighting. And there will be hot chocolate and hanging out. And are you going to do karaoke or anything? >> Yes, we will. >> All right. Back to uh Miss Mononttoya at library. She said she had a few more items. >> Okay. Um, again, very quickly before things start getting loud. U, you do have my report in your um in your packet and I didn't do as many pictures as last month. Um, but you do have the goals for the school and the important library dates. Um, on the December 17th, we changed had a schedule change where we're
012going to do the winter program that day and also the prek Grinch day. And then um December 18th, we had planned a Christmas lunch with um the head of the cafeteria and we're going to have Polei and Tamali's and then the classroom parties will be after that. Um the other change was that there's not going to be any game. There are not going to be any games this Thursday because uh Red Rock does not have a team. So um Liebrook will not have games for the rest of the week. And then um just updates with NM Dash. um same critical actions. We've completed this 30, 60, and 90day check-ins and found that the teachers are still needing a little bit more. They're they're still challenged meeting the critical actions. And so, we're going to probably
013um draw that into our spring 90-day dash plan. And then the positive things going on in Libuk, um the monthly attendance certificates are given out still with a token and so students have a lot of fun um presenting their tokens to our secretary and she gives it to them. >> And they go to the vending machine and they um put the token into the machine and they get a book and that's their prize for attendance. I also have used um the breakfast time to present the certificates at the at the beginning of each month so that way everyone can see who had perfect attendance for the month. And then I just finished calculating out the boys are playing so it's really loud. Um I just finished calculating out perfect attendance. We have one student right
014now who has perfect attendance for the semester and that is a pre-K student. And so um we also counted nearperfect attendance which means they missed one day uh for the semester. So um I'm calculating that out too. Um uh other positive things this that's the first semester in incentives as you can see listed there. Um also the Navajo language class has been progressing. They were making bears out of bluebird flower bags while learning Navajo language associated with sewing and eel classes. are going strong. Um, enrollment is 62 as of December 2nd with an average attendance of 51. And um, I've been keeping track of like how many snacks I give out per day. So it it kind of averages to 51 students. Um, reasons for absences that we found out with students are sickness, bad
015roads, and basketball games. So sometimes the basketball is um like Cuba maybe somebody's family is on the team and so the parents uh don't have anybody to be at home with them so they come and check them out or they don't send them to school. So um those are some of the things that we were noticing and trying to figure out how we can uh find the root cause of our chronic absency rate and things like that. um the teacher housing spots, the the three spots are being worked on. And so in my um in my review, I just talked about how they have electricity and they'll soon have water and sewer. And then um my my housing is the the RV um parked on a concrete slab with wattage. And then um my water
016and sewage are hauled out each week. And so just to give you an idea of of the um the staff housing here in Libbrook and um staff, we're still waiting for our seventh and eighth grade teacher who is in the Philippines. Um the reason that we had hired this teacher is because um she taught seventh grade science at Gallup McKinley schools at JFK Middle School. And so right now we're we do still have the long-term sub there along who is under a teacher of record, a certified teacher of record. So, just so you all know. Um, and then, uh, when staff takes leave, then it causes a domino effect, and I've already talked to you all about that in previous reports. Uh, basketball is underway for the four corners league. Um, all games are scheduled
017for 5:00 p.m. for away and home games. They have, um, Tuesdays and Thursdays until the middle of February. So, um, like right now it's Tuesday, so we have, uh, varsity home and JB is away and they're playing the same community. So, that's how the league has been planned this school year. U, a lot of families are coming out for games and they're really looking forward to um, seeing this is our first game, so they're really looking forward to the rest of the season. Um, and then of course, I already talked to you about the Eastern Navajo uh, agency chapter meeting, so you can read that there in the paragraph. uh Johnson Ali and the engine education comm committee meetings are going to be scheduled. The only difference I have to talk about is that December
01815th I wrote that it was at 5:00 p.m. but it's now scheduled for 12 p.m. and it will be via Zoom. So if if you're wanting to attend or if um anyone else is interested, it's via Zoom. Um, and then I will also submit a robocall to get that out to the district to try to recruit uh members. Uh, bus routes, there's going to be a single route. Um, there was one today for the afternoon only and it was due to um not having activity bus drivers. So, but there's also going to be a single route for um December 16th through the 18th. So, because of that, um, school will start at 9:00 a.m. And then just a reminder to you guys from August, the routes are about 3 hours long and 10 minutesish long
019for the students. And so, just to give you a heads up for the last week of school for this semester and uh the buses are being maintained as well as possible because of rough roads and the inclement weather. Uh and then due to the long ride, uh students will have 10-minute breakfast and 10-minute visas at the beginning of the day regardless of the arrival time for the bus. Um I stand for questioning. Any questions? >> No questions. Thank you. It's Mr. Moffet was next, but he got called down the hall. I'm not sure. So they recommend we skip until next month. Okay. Information I need a letter if information technology shot. >> He had no official report. He was radical today. >> Okay. Moving on to letter G maintening everyone. Uh tonight for my maintenance
020report, I really don't have much other than we're waiting for PSFA to come out and reassess all both campuses, all buildings, and that's going to be they had to reschedule. So, it's going to be next month, I believe. >> Yes. >> So, that's what we're waiting on right now. >> Get fixed. >> I'm sorry. >> Cuz this morning the school was freezing. >> Yeah, we reset it. Um so, they did come back on. I just called uh actually uh Honeywell did come out and they overnighted apart but it is working but not to full capacity so we it's a small issue there but we got it up and running. I don't know if the power glitch or what happened, but >> that came this morning. It was freezing. >> Yeah, it was. I was like,
021what's going on? Then I figured it out. >> Question. >> Are we like deep cleaning our classrooms considering everybody's getting sick? Are we going and just making sure everything is disinfected? >> Yes. anytime we do have uh the nurses or there's everybody's getting sick, we end up uh going in and doing the backpack sprayer at the end of the day or they do have uh Clorox wipes in each room. They have uh disinfecting spray and we do that as well as the teachers do that >> and like everything like gym because they're in the gym. Yes, everything is >> So, um, what time do you guys, uh, start and finish each day? >> Each day we have different times that each person starts. So, um, let's see. Daniel comes in at 6:00 to 4:30 on
022a 10-hour day. Uh, next would be Gina comes about 6:30 and then Jason will come at 7:00. As well as myself, I come at 7:00 to 5:30. I just don't know if you guys are later >> um >> or if you guys were all waiting at the same time. >> No, it's it's >> okay. Thank you. >> Mhm. >> And for games, do we have any maintenance uh planning the games in case they >> Yes. So, we went over schedule and it's a real game schedule. They'll each uh we go one, two, three, and then it just keeps going. We've already got pretty much all the games set. >> Yeah. readjusted that schedule, make sure somebody was on duty. They still have their normal school cleanup and all that, but they're available at games and
023can now sweep the floor between basketball games and be here to help clean up trash or if there's an accident or something like that. So, thank you. >> Yes, no problem. went out to expand his >> last night Sandy Lucy Mr. and Tammy and I um we had a good meeting and um one of their questions that they they had and I'm sure maybe they want to report out on but all the documents are in your packet all the reports. So um I stand for any questions if any of you have any and you're welcome to jump. >> No, I think we had great discussion. We had a couple questions around um the GoFan account and how that was um managed and expenditures and what the school paid or what was the amounts of the
024tickets and that but other than that we recommend moving forward with approvals that are >> thank you going on to super I'd like to start out with just a brief statement the board received that I received received from the board a letter regarding our webcasting procedures, how we do everything online at the meetings. And I want uh you all to know that I'm responding to that letter myself and then we'll add it to a future agenda. Okay, great. And then with that, uh moving to Miss Mononttoya mentioned a couple school delays. I've had some people ask me, you know, why a school delay when it cleared out at 10:00 at night and so on, but I always try to make the call early so parents know before bedtime with the kids and hopefully sleep in
025a little bit. And also I wasn't so cautious in my younger days, but uh I just found out tonight that guy that I worked with for years, Frank Cordova, somehow related to you all. And uh I uh learned a little wisdom there to make decisions early. Always there on the side of safety and so there might be times where the weather does change for the better. But we try to make those calls early. Also, we don't cancel school whenever possible because then we have to make up those days. So delays either at the beginning of the day or the end of the day count as a full school day on the calendar. And mainly stating that for the public. Jeremy mentioned that PSFA is now coming in January. We're still at the top of their
026list. They're not really reassessing our buildings, but they want to see firsthand with their whole team uh the condition of the buildings and kind of help us set an order for uh the future progress with the bond election and the match monies and all that. So, I am slated to go to the first of the PSOC meetings that take place after the legislative session. And I'll be out with the legislature quite a bit. I mentioned that before. We'll be doing a lot of attendance at the various committees during the 30-day session and shaking hands and trying to convince the folks there that we need all that match that we can apply for. So, that's coming. Um, Miss Mononttoya mentioned the uh teacher that we had hired. We're still waiting on visa issues to be cleared
027up. Uh, it's a lengthy process. We are still obligated to the teacher that we offered the position to by Brook and our hands are kind of tied on her getting to the district. So, we've explored other options, but there are really no other options at this point. uh the board and I attended the schoolboard association conference and I think that's the first time in at least 20 years that I can remember that I was in attendance with the four sitting board members. Mr. didn't need to go because he wasn't there, but our new board member was in attendance and we'll be posting pictures of him being sworn at or I mean sworn in and that was actually a very well attended conference and and I think they upped their game a little bit on the
028quality that was offered but you all can make your own judgments on that. Plus, we had another staff member who serves on the board at Cuba schools Vivian is there as well. So, uh, tomorrow we have an online bilingual visit, uh, to go over the program out at Library and then on Thursday there'll be an inerson audit or visit from PED to look at that program and uh, assess our progress there. All other positions are full at this time. Miss Mononttoya mentioned transportation. We're trying to recruit bus drivers. Um I'm recommending a little later, I believe it's on the agenda, I hope I may be able to look pay increase for our drivers, activity drivers. So that will help us to make borrow steel from other districts if we can help that pay. So we'll
029get to that in a few minutes. And uh my travel is just in state at this point. We already approved the Washington trip at the end of January and we're getting that laid out. Staff development and training is ongoing with capturing kids hearts and other programs and so nothing really report there. I think last but not least, I want to thank Moretta for her service to the board. She'll be done here at the end of the month and she's helped our new employee and new board secretary to get her feet on the ground and they're working together to make it as smooth a transition as possible. I know there was a couple minor glitches in board packets and that sort of thing, but they're making that transition. So, Loretta, thank you for your service to
030the district. I stand for any questions for >> Thank you. So, >> thank you. >> So, cell phones. Um, I know last month we talked about cell phones. So, I came in this morning and I It's hard to believe that no kids bring their cell phones to school cuz there's none in the lockers. >> We I have addressed that. >> I've noticed that too. Yes, that is an ongoing issue and uh we'll discuss some of that under personnel executive session. That's what I like to say. Any questions? >> Okay. M Reese, >> we're still waiting. We're still waiting um to them to the state auditor to open it all back up and and get approval from them. So the deadline is January 20th, but we should be ahead of that schedule hopefully. Fingers crossed. Um
031I talked to Mr. Manny yesterday yesterday and they're putting much wrapping hours that there were some that were due before us. So that kind of come in line like soil, water, some of those kind of um audits are due before school districts. So we're in line. Hopefully we'll get that as soon as and as soon as we do we'll schedule a committee meeting and go over that next conference. >> Not policy updates and discussions. I'd like to keep this item on the agenda just going forward with building process and so on this evening. >> Okay. Discussion and action items out of state travel approval or is that national international conference items? Yes sir. Uh you have the dates there. These are the three trips that you requested that at least three months in advance when
032we know about how to state travel. These are the three national conferences and competitions that our students attend normally. And I was asked to seek your approval tonight to the out of state travel for any finalists in those competitions. >> So is it good is it going to be uh I was seeing there that there's 40 kids or something? >> Well, we have high number of students that are involved in all three of these organizations as you know and it will depend on how many actually qualify. I've already stated in past months my recommendation on the number that be permitted to travel and you all will have to make that determination but what you would like to set as a final number for travel in each group. I think it'd be I think it'd be
033nice and I think this is why we wanted it so early is that way if we needed to table we could table that way they can give us a list of kids that actually made it to these to these conferences because in the past what's happened is they've taken everybody um and I think that's been an issue in the past. So I'm I'm this is my last meeting, but what I would like to see is for the board to get names of every student that qualified for BPA HOSA and FCCLA um and approved for those students to go um and no additional and then the required amount of chapels whether they're staff or not. But I I don't think that every kid that participates needs to go anymore. >> Right. I think you made that
034clear last spring when I first got here, but also if you recall in a previous district, we had FFA was very uh involved and so was my trial. And with FFA, we had probably 40 to 50 kids in a district the same size. And we chose in advance as a policy that only juniors and seniors would travel to national competition. and uh uh still have involvement in the years down below even from seventh and eighth graders and encourage those kids that uh you need to show your involvement or participation to qualify when you're a junior or a senior for those teams because we have the same budget issues, same transportation, chapel issues, those sorts of things. But that's just an item for your thought and discussion board. So would that be said make a motion
035to table next month you guys get that? >> I second >> motion by Robert second by >> I motion carries so it'll be tabled till the January meeting. Okay, activity pay uh I should say pay for activity bus drivers uh we are very low on our pay rate uh compared to surrounding districts and the state as a whole actually and I'd like to recommend an increase and we discussed both 26 and $28 an hour and Dice and I talked about whether we could maintain that we believe we can at this time So what's the rate of 223 >> 23 23 >> schools is currently paying 28. >> Do they renew fee? >> They do. >> Okay. >> It used to be it used to be done different. It used to be the drivers got the
036rate while they were driving and then there was a downtime rate. Now we are required to pay same rate all the way through. Well, I know people pay but when but when it's down time they have 15. >> So even doing that. >> Yeah. So if you do 27 or whatever straight comes out. >> Okay. >> I think I do believe that if we up the bay it'll help us to recruit some activity drivers. >> I think another um to um and attract activity bus drivers is that we're there on a rotation because I've I've heard from some people that they don't call them, they're not called. So that's why one person >> Well, right now we've been calling every single one of them on a regular basis and we've had two or three of
037them turn us down for several trips. We've scrambled uh Patricia calls every one of them uh after it's actually Mr. office responsibility on uh to recruit or to assign drivers to trips and even today we had a meeting where he called three or four different people who turned down during his trips. So we're trying to do that and we have plenty of trips for everybody to get a chance to drive. >> So you recommend the 28 or 27? I recommend the $28 per hour. discussion rate 28. >> I think 28 because that makes us competitive. >> Okay. So made a motion to 28 there. Sorry. >> Second by >> I motion passes on purchase of this room. Okay. This was the one the special >> the medic >> Medicaid money. And so as we've discussed
038in the past, we'd like to get uh our vehicles up to date. So, as we can with the CTE suburban that you approved last month, u it's not strictly for that program. This uh we have some Medicaid money that would help to finance this suburban. So, I'm requesting approval of a second suburban this time. >> Motion to approve by all in favor. >> Motion carries. point on adjusting journal entries with duties. >> General journal entry number 269 moving expenses from one grant to the other grant. >> Motion motion to approve. >> Motion by >> second. >> Motion passes. Going on to budget general entries. We'll take number 24 through November 3rd. >> I motion to approve. >> Motion by Miss Second by Robert. >> Motion carries. Going on to discussion and approval. Bars number is
039it 2752. >> We have one bar. It's the initial budget. We got some additional funding for the CTE grant. Uh, so we're asking for an increase, a budget increase for that part. >> How much is the budget increase? >> Um, what is that? CT. See, I should have put that on. Sorry. I'll I'll tell you, we have the bar. Yes. Okay. A motion motion by Miss Lucy, second by Miss Samuel. Motion carries. Moving on to accept the session. Executive session notice is hereby the members of the Hamilton schools board of education will meet in executive session section 10-15-1H2 New Mexico openings act limited personnel matters discuss person personnel personable information potential opinions litigation superintendent advice >> yes >> Mr. Reho >> yes >> Mr. Yes. >> The sentiment. Yes. And Miss Sandy. Yes. >> Okay.
040The time is 652. The board now online executive session for a while. And if you're still She's got she's >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah, she just made sure to make sure that we pressed to record. >> Okay. So, I just told her we're back. Okay. 7:41 is back in session. Executive session uh notice is hereby given so that mountain public school boards of education has reconvened from executive session to section 10-15-1 chosen next to open meetings act limited personnel matters no action was taken by vote lucy yes >> Mr. Robert >> yes >> miss yes Mr. Yes. Sandy. Yes. >> Okay. Moving on to announcements. Next regular board meeting January 13th, 2026. So with that motion to motion by Robert, second by Sandy. All in favor? >> I stop. She said there's a quick step
041for she said there's a receipt. Beats.
