Regular board meeting of school board of education will now come to order. Time is 603. Sandy >> Mr. Andy Cordova >> present. >> Miss Anthony Martinez. >> Mr. Robert Beill >> present. >> Miss Lucy Morphine and Miss Sandra Emus present. Thank you. Moving on. I pledge allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States and to the republic for it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. Rule of agenda. Is there any changes? Uh, Mr. President, if we could move teachers up, they would appreciate it. >> Is possible. They're all in agreement. >> It's actually supposed to conceive, right? >> Yes. Right. A business official. >> And just for the record, Miss Montoya is still on class, but she will join us online. So, it's amazing.
That's all. >> Yes. Yes. That change moving the future presentations to letter A. Have a motion. I motion to approve the agenda with the >> revisions. Second motion by Sandy second order. All in favor? >> I motion carries. Moving on. Approval and signature minutes of letter A regular board meeting for October 7th 2025. I mean motion by Mr. Robert. >> Second by Santi. >> That motion carries moving to letter B special made October 21st 2025. Have a motion. >> A motion to approve. >> Motion by Miss second. >> Second by Miss. All in favor? >> I motion carries. Moving on. Public comment. Is there any public comment? She thank you. [clears throat] For the record, the recording should reflect that. Morphine joined us at 606. Okay, moving on to our presentations. Number one, CT members
of the board, Superintendent Kushman. Um, and it's I'm excited to be here again. It seems like time is flying. Can't believe we're already at the end of another year. Um but I am here to present some quick updates uh update the screen. All right. So quick updates. We have um an update on the innovation zone grant. we were successful. Uh so we have a little bit of I would say around $133,000 coming into the district to support career connected learning. Uh we were also successful with the STEM innovation zone. Uh we'll talk a little bit about the career connected learning that's happening on campus, the upcoming CTSO competitions. Uh we have a connect ed and New Mexico public education department career college and career readiness bureau site visit on Thursday. Uh we presented at the
CES statewide conference almost about a month ago and then just the additional resources that our school is receiving in terms of uh career connected learning. So I'll just quickly begin with our graduate profile. Everything that we're doing here uh is focused on creating creative and critical thinkers uh active and culturally aware citizens. Uh we want to build resilience in our students. Uh we want ethical and effective communicators and we also want them to take ownership uh of actions by being socially responsible. So this is our leopard graduate profile. Uh and this is something that all schools scout and maxillo have in place so that we have a bowl of vision for our students. Uh so a little bit about the innovation zone grant. Uh we applied for a nine passenger vehicle to help transport our
students uh to enter or anything career connected um that's career and connected to their educational opportunities, professional development. Uh so anything that ties in with our educational goals. Uh we also have built-in paid internships for our students and it's really focusing on how can we build in-house internships so that uh we're not having to transport students to espanol Santa Fe and so forth. So, how do we utilize the resources that we have on campus and how do we tap into the talents of uh the individuals that work here on campus and the community members? Uh the STEM innovation zone grant is focused on supporting our system our students within the systems go uh engineering program of study. And so the funding there, we received $15,000. We were one of 22 schools throughout the state of
New Mexico that received this grant. And again, it's to support our students with transportation to J New Mexico when they launched their rocket in the spring. Uh to provide the materials for them to build their rocket and to provide training as well. Uh career connected learning. So uh the ultimate goal with career connected learning is we want our students graduating with college credits. uh we're providing them personalized career and college counseling through Northern New Mexico uh and ultimately providing relevance and application. So, how do we apply everything that they're learning in the classroom to real world uh work-based learning experiences while earning industry credentials? Uh so, some of the expanded opportunities, we're now officially an additional campus for Northern New Mexico College. So we've enhanced our dual credit opportunities. Uh we provide certifications, work-based learning,
internships. Uh as part of the innovation zone, we're required to have capstone. So these are projects that the students are working on to leave a lasting impact on the community and also supporting the career and technical student organizations or CTSOs. Uh in order for us to meet these requirements, we have our programs of study. They begin with an introductory course, a concentrator course, and a completer, which is typically your internship. Um, in addition, through Northern, we have uh the ability for students to uh earn a direct entry into the apprenticeship program at LA by completing the MC3 curriculum, which ties into our plumbing, welding, and electrical courses. And again we've enhanced our online dual credit opportunities. Uh so just quickly this is a snapshot of the program the programs of uh study that we offer
here on campus. So we have our welding or plumbing. Uh those typically uh the instructor comes out to our campus on Thursdays and so we're able to provide students uh with hands-on experiences here. our physical health. Uh last year it started out with the intro to health occupations. They've increased the level of rigor. So the introductory course is now medical terminology. And uh we just had a cohort of students complete their dual credit medical terminology. Uh the next phase is nursing and CNA or uh anatomy and physiology. We also have over 10 students that just received their first aid and CPR certifications as well as basic life support uh in preparation for the CNA program. Our culinary program students are currently working on their serve save certification while the culinary room is being remodeled. So,
uh we're in the process of getting the faults for the appliances so that we can get that fully up and running. uh plant science, we have our intro to egg science. Uh the greenhouse is just about ready. We'll be having a ribbon cutting ceremony sometime within the near future. So fingers crossed it's uh sooner rather than later. Uh and then we also have our media production and computer graphics programs. And uh all of these programs of study align with the career and technical student organization which is a mandate by the state of New Mexico. uh when you look at your CTSOs, it becomes like your higher level thinking skills in Bloom's taxonomy. It's the application piece. And so the students through their competitive events or other community service projects, they apply again the skills within
the math, science, English, and the courses that they have within their core curriculum. Uh also we have our certifications and ultimately we want our students graduating with certifications so that they're um they're employable upon graduation and these certifications become staffable. So if a student is interested in going to the medical field, the CNA is not the end all. It becomes stackable. They can work as a CNA while working toward their nursing degree. Uh so just quickly uh here are the students that completed their first day CPR. the students at the bottom, their basic life support. Uh the students in the middle, they just had the regional compet competition in Albuquerque on Saturday. There were over 950 students that uh competed at regionals. This is the first time they hosted regionals uh for HOSA. And so
uh we're still waiting on results. Uh hopefully uh they'll advance to state uh the mixed traits. And you'll notice that a lot of our branding is now including females. And uh that's a push so that we can encourage students that are within non-traditional fields um to or actually students to um explore non-traditional fields. So it's really, you know, closing that equity gap. Can we see more females in this field? Uh we have our CNC plasma cutter and uh we have a lot of females in our welding program right now. and the plumbing the audiovisisual area we have students that are prepping for competition December 5th uh in business professionals of America and so we'd like to invite uh everyone here to to join us as a judge uh December 5th it'll be all day here
on campus so we'll be hosting schools uh from Mounta stansia Santa Rosa and some of the other surrounding areas so if you're interested interested, please let me know. Uh we have over 90 events uh to to help judge. So um please let me know. We invite you uh to partake in that. So our hospitality and tourism, like I mentioned, we're working on expanding the culinary room and students will be competing uh in January for regionals. our STEM, food and natural resources. Uh students are working closely with all teachers throughout the campus to uh have their hydroponics units working in their classrooms at the elementary level uh into the egg sciences and into the science classes. Uh down at the bottom you'll see our students. They were red barn workers for uh FFA. Those are our
FFA chapter members. Uh so that was at the state fair this year. And then we have a lot of uh lettuce ready to harvest I think this Thursday. This is our systems go engineering. We had successful launches. We had our systems go uh launch one, two and three. And so now students are focusing on the the physics and the math uh concepts so that they're successful with their launch in the spring. So the ball for the launch on the spring is a mile high with a one pound scientific payload. our CTSOs. Um you'll take a look up here. We had the FCCLA host and BPA members attend their uh CTSO leadership training in Albuquerque. Students at the bottom uh their chapter officers at the state fair and BPK hosted a blood drive where we were
able to help over 66 uh members with a blood drive. Uh and thank you Miss Sandy for always participating in our blood drive. The uh last year at the end of the year we had uh students from our trades program attend the first ever everal trades tour. So uh we had a great representation there. Students were able to meet with uh the local unions and take a look at job opportunities. We've partnered with the department of work for work workforce solutions. So we have uh them coming in every month to work with our students on resume building uh letters of interest, how to um really work on building the resume and how to make it through a job interview successfully. And so um students are doing really well in that. Uh some of the internships
that we have currently we have an in-house print shop uh as part of one of the grants and we received a large format printer. Uh so students work on the design concepts all the way to uh publication. Uh we have digital communications team. We have four students that were selected for the statewide behavioral health and human services youth mental advocacy group. So they're representing the state of New Mexico as uh mental health uh advocates and uh they're also trained in mental health first aid. Uh we have students working with the laser engraver um and then also working on conference and review videos for the state conferences for DEPA of HOSA and BPA. And so that's just a little snapshot of some of the internships. uh we have more that we will build on based on
the different programs of study so that there's an an alignment. Uh this Thursday we have connected and the public education department coming in. Uh the founder of connected is visiting our school to see how he can help support us so that we have uh more of that support career connected learning happening from prek all the way to uh 12th grade. Uh as part of the connect ed program, we had three teachers and they'll talk a little bit about it uh participate in a Gallup experiential site visit. Uh the NMPD, the college and career readiness bureau will be supporting us with our programs of study and how we can ensure success that our students are meeting the introductory and the concentrators and computer courses. Um, and ultimately our goal is to really continue to develop those
partnerships to see successful outcomes for our students. >> Thank you very much. And >> thank you. >> Next time for questions. [clears throat] Thank you. Okay, moving on to board information discussion and this is teachers presentations to letter. So, Mr. Kushner, who's first? Uh thank you members of board uh Superintendent Kushman uh for allowing us the opportunity to share our come uh allow us the opportunity to uh go out there and compare uh Gal McKinley schools to what they're doing to what we're doing here. Um, as always, I, you know, I have only philosophy. There's always room for improvement, but uh, to see that we're we're headed on the right track. That's one of the things that I really enjoyed about this visit. Uh, so I'm going to, uh, like I said, we'll summarize in
a little bit, but I'd like Miss Edith and Miss uh, to do the presentation. Sh. >> First and foremost, good evening to all of you. I'm so happy to be here part this is my second no third time so far. All right. So and I personally would like to thank you and you know the staff and administration for sending me that the three of us to the experiential visit. It's to me it's more than a hearsay this time. It's experiential like we really experience how is it like when we say CTE how is it like when we say closing equity gap. So um uh so this is like um if I am going to compare it to student learning I should say this one is one kind of a discovering method of learning and now
I know how I as a teacher could impact kind of like contribute to the works of Miss Goss and to the work of the administration in order to close this gap and um to continue All right. So in support of their schools branding so we came to Tohachi and Mora schools in Gallup McKinley and one of those things I uh uh focus on to what which catches my interest is the school branding and the banner that they hold. So the staff most especially the teachers contribute and make a difference by integrating the CTE as part of application reflection and assessment of their lessons. So we've been through the classrooms and we noticed how the teachers integrate CTE career technology life and civic into the inte into their you know uh curriculum in the classroom and
they really bring to life the so-called crosscurricular or single subject consideration culture of learning. Another important piece is that everyone in the school talks about the graduate profile making it visible in their classrooms and hallways to commit themselves. Yeah. So this is the example of the graduate profile that they have. But I know Miss Diego is talking about the CARES C A R E S graduate profile that we have. And yeah, we're we're also um we would we are open to contribute to you know to make this pairs accessible to each and every student and so I guess this part this one is not my but once again thank you for the wonderful opportunity. >> Thank members of the board Mr. Kushman our principal >> a second I want to tell her we'll see you
next month. All right, my turn. Members of the board, uh, Mr. Kushman, our principles, teachers, and guests. Good evening. Um, uh, my focus is to share with you, uh, the classroom setup and learning environment. So, we noticed the Can you go to the classroom? >> The classroom set. Yeah. >> Yeah. So, classroom setup learning environment. Sony we noticed that um GMCS is using the station based learning in which each station focused on specific learning task or skill and then students rotated between stations after a set time. Activities were hands-on and differentiated and teachers facilitated learning while students collaborated independently. And then um this is these are the pictures that we've taken at um to hatch. So as we can see uh students are collaborating with each other and then uh the teacher was just uh
facilitating and um she was circulating uh answering the queries of the students and then on the other side of the photo it are the students who are actually presenting their work because after their collaboration they are tasked to do uh to present their work and then um so my key takeaway so station learning promotes collaboration and autonomy. Classroom design uh impacts engagement and focus. Flexibility and organization are key to effective learning um spaces. Importance of teacher facilitation and student centered instruction. An application to our school implement flexible sitting and group stations. Integrate rotation based learning activities. Uh foster uh student independence and peer collaboration. And the last one reflect in classroom environment for inclusivity and engagement. So um we had our training last uh October 28 to 30 of 2025 and Monday of that next
week. So we actually implemented what we have seen what we have learned at GMCS uh during our site visit. So this is how our classroom looks like now. So um the the the students are are learning through a station. So, uh they were collaborating and um personally I would like to say thank you for giving us a chance to um be with some of the participants at the GMCS site visit because we have learned a lot and we are hoping and we are doing our best to implement what are the things that we've learned at GMCS that would really like be very helpful in our school as general. Thank you. >> All right. Uh so for for my end of it uh it was neat to see a school district like uh Galpon schools. It's
one of the largest like the fourth largest in the nation. So Gallop schools itself and Gallop it's it's a huge school district but within that school they have like a trades uh area. So I got the opportunity to go to uh Rayma High School which is like an hour away from uh from Gallup. Um I know that we drove by Segive which is almost two hours away. So they've been very creative in how they've implemented some of the changes. Uh so one of the things that I saw with either at Rama or at Gallup High School was that uh we're we're we're pushing the cares they push the pride professionalism responsibility integrity discipline and and enthusiasm. Uh so one of the things that I saw uh student empowerment uh all the tours were led by
students. They have uh student ambassadors. They all have what are called uh businesses. So, it's all student le and that's one of the things I I really enjoyed seeing those internships or u uh or uh capstone or whatever projects they all have true student uh participation in this. So, that's what I liked. Um the other thing that I saw is uh teacher empowerment uh common preps uh you know uh businesses across all levels. So they have a focus. So I really enjoyed that. Um the other thing that I I really enjoyed seeing is community empowerment. Uh they we had some board members at those uh visits. So it was nice to see that uh a lot of alumni involvement. So those at Rama, they have uh business leaders in the Gallup area that go into
Rayma and share their experiences with the students. Um and then like to see the principal and some of the teachers that from the area. it was it I I saw some empowerment within the school system. Uh and then finally and the goal that we also want to share here is school empowerment and and if you look at their numbers attendance has has improved uh their uh scores have improved. So all the changes that they've done is has been a positive thing. Uh so my I like to summarize by saying the marketplace of ideas every door begins with curiosity. So we at Rama High School it I thought it was just some bookshelves that they were there in the hallway and it's actually one of the classrooms that allows people to go in there and to
see the instruction that was taking place in there to see the uh teacher and the student led uh instruction that was taking place was really really a great idea like Miss Lorin said for us it was nice to come back and implement some of those ideas right away. come. We were home by Thursday and by Monday we were already implementing some of those ideas. And with that, thank you and and we stand for questions if anybody has any. >> Thank you all. >> Thank you. Hi, good evening members of the board, superintendent, administrators and community members. Thank you for allowing us today to present um some opportunities highlighting STEM. So first of all um last month we uh we had a chance a group of students especially the systems go class had a chance to
visit or go to go for launch workshop in Albuquerque. We're very fortunate that this workshop um has come to Albuquerque. Normally they launch or this conference or workshop has been um or this event has been um in different places or different state but now they hosting it in Albuquerque. So this the kids were able to participate in hands-on workshops activity and even met some aerospace um professionals from NASA engineers from Sandia Labs and also an astronaut. some of them are now ready to become an astronaut. So, um that was just a cool opportunity. It was a two-day workshop and um and thank you for allowing us to go to Albuquerque with accommodation and transportation, all good stuff. Um next, we're also um we also had a chance to go to a STEM pathway for girls
0292025 conference. Uh unfortunately, we only had one student at time. We're supposed to have like four to seven kids. Um but for some reason we end up having one student participate in Santa Fe and we end up having to do volunteering um stuff and that's good because um we're able to provide some um support to the kids and to those students um not just in in our school but other schools. It was also fun that our student um able to connect with other girls and and she's very passionate in doing some STEM activities in the future. Um as Chris Miss Crystal had mentioned um earlier we had hosted our Gen 2 and three rocket launch successfully this year. It's our first time and thank you for all the support and to the members of the
board who came out and to to Lifebrook and to the baby um elementary kids and even middle school. They're excited to be out there um seeing their um some of their um brothers and sisters launching their rockets. And we're hoping to do some student mentoring this coming weeks um so that the students from high school were able to teach some of the concepts of building rockets to um the elementary um kids. Also, thank you to our CTE coordinator and of course Mr. Chapman uh for leading um you know for all those logistics and we're hoping to launch our one mile one pound payload in Jaw. We already have a date. It's April 22nd. So, cross were able to finish our rocket by then. And then um we also attended three of us attended and of
course Mr. Hoffus attended the New Mexico building science leaders network as a conference actually started in September but it's a year-long program to support our um science teachers which which actually just me and you. So we're all fast teachers. Um but this is a good opportunity to not just step up with our teaching practice but our also our leadership skills. Actually during this conference I mean this training we're able to um share our some of our leadership practices that we don't know we have some leadership skills but we we um put it out there. So here are some highlights of our three-day usually it's a three-day training. So um in September and then recently just two weeks ago um we were able to meet with other science leaders from different schools across the state. And
then we able to enhance some leadership practices design process for effective professional learning and learning and reflecting how science practices support equitable and culturally responsive classroom environment and reflecting in our science teaching practice to where are we at um districtwide. So um we're able to also bring back those um leadership practices and teaching practices to our school. So we're now implementing the district K to2 science monthly PLC. This our last week we had our third um K to2 science um monthly PLC and it was very successful. We had a 100% attendance from both two schools from Liebrook um and here in Gina even our administrators were were there um during our PLC despite our hectic schedule because we're trying to integrate it in our monthly PD and then also our EAS um were able to
attend last PLC. So just supporting um our teachers and us overall um and making our science you know and across supporting ELA and math too equitable to our students. >> Um um good evening to all of us. I am um Jenny Lin Pad. I'm from middle school department. Okay. Um I'm only the major art since then I learned um I am lucky that I you know I participated in this uh training three-day training because I learned a lot from this um okay I have the academic block I learned how to deepen my understanding on science and GSS assessment tool and we have the 3D shifts in that um science And then we have the the use of sensemaking notebook and student discourse. We had that like you know in our 3-day training for science and
also I learned a lot from the question and answer we had a chance to um to ask question in higher ups so that they can give us like you know um uh feedback or positive feedback on that on how to do it in our school. Mhm. And um of course we have the collaboration within like with our administrator and co- teacher like all of the science teacher in there and um with the practices with productive arguments uh effective feedback building a supporting community and help us teachers provide actionable information for advancing 3D learning in science. And the last one I I think I'm ready with like you know to help and support our PLCP for science. >> Yeah. Thank you. >> Awesome. So um just to build upon what they were sharing right now um
one of the things that I found really beneficial is um the 3D shift that's happening right now in science is evident across all curriculum in ELA and math and um we picked up some strategies um and this is a trend across the board for everybody that's been participating things that are ready to use in the classroom today that you know we're we're creating these shifts within our classroom. They're becoming more um studentled, more discourse um just uh more learning exploration um and uh one thing that was very cool um that I appreciate is um the support that we've had from admin. Um, we could be very proud of our principal because there were a lot of principles that showed up that were on their laptops and taking phone calls and he was very engaged, very
in it even when he was trying to be the timekeeper. Um, you know, he was just really engaged, really supportive. And it's awesome because now he knows what to look for in the classroom. Yes. >> Because this shift looks different. a quiet classroom does not mean that students are learning. But seeing them up around discussing um the the messiness of learning um can be chaotic and if you don't know to look for that and support that um it may be misinterpreted. So I feel like all the way across the board from elementary all the way up supported by our admin, our board, our community um uh what did you say? All of our arrows are pointed in the right direction. So, it's we're headed in the right direction together. It's an exciting time. In addition,
we have already acquired 100% of our K to2 science materials from SAS and amplify both library and Gina Coronado Middle School. So we have now we have updated textbooks, we have curriculum, we have materials and kits and thank you to our the M and Tammy and to administrator and all your support. Um it's been a journey but thank you. >> Thank you. Any questions? >> Thank you. >> Let me just get let me just get mine out of the way. Okay, because I'm here by myself. It's >> I'll stand by. >> No, bring it in because um it's the least glamorous I feel like of all the presentations, but I'm proud of it and I stand behind it because we're getting things aligned. We're getting things moving in the right direction. And so, um, I
attended Navigate, uh, priority schools, um, to get our elementary >> out of CSI. And, um, this was my first time attending. Um, so I know that there were previous meetings before that I was not a part of. Uh, this one happened to focus on goal setting for our students and for our district. and the little nuances and things that we need to be aware of. Sometimes it's just in our wording and what we present to the state and how we word it to set ourselves up for success. So, um, uh, one of the things that, like my big takeaway was, um, looking at the goal sizes per our, um, the size of our district and the size of our classrooms. And one of the things that um, the group before me had already um, realized
was goal setting by cohort, not by grade level. And so what that means is look following a class year by year. Not saying okay in sixth grade we're going to make um you know a a 30% increase um which would you know constituted let's say two students because even one student makes a huge impact in our district just because of our size. And so you would look at that and say, "Oh yeah, 30%, that makes sense." You know, two students. However, when we were deep diving into the data, we had noticed that our two students that we call bubble students, which are really, really close to meeting that goal, one of them moved out of district. So had those been the two students that we put on that goal and we didn't have another student
meet that goal, it would have been detrimental for us in this, you know, motion that we're we're trying to to kind of create for ourselves to get out of CSI. So I mean just some behind the scenes stuff. navigate I felt like was beneficial because it's it's those little tricks and like I said nuances that you just don't realize that they are familiar with and I think it kind of just supported what we're trying to do and move things in the right direction any questions [clears throat] >> thank you All right. Um, good evening members of the board Kushman, everyone who are here and to the people who are listening virtually. I am Fariam Absara, third and fourth grade teacher at Le. I did not go to any training or any site visit or anything.
I in front of you so don't speak too speak too much. Okay. I am in front of you here to tell you what is going on with my classroom. How is our day going and what are the things that my students are looking forward every day. Okay. Um education is important because it helps people learn the knowledge and skills they need to understand the world. That is the main focus of the third and fourth grade classroom is to learn the skills to help them build a brighter future for themselves and for everybody. So inside my classroom, so everything is anchored to capturing kids heart as you can see on the slides right there. So my colleague Miss Ella mentioned already all about CH. So I have nothing to say. She did a very good job
doing that. But I have there this is my morning greeting. I just going to go on to the slides. Morning greeting the social contract. And the thing that I think Miss Ellen mentioned about is the sendup message. It's like a mantra for my kids that they will do it and say it at the end of the day and let them remember it when they go out of the classroom when they go out and you know ride a bus home and everywhere else. So all right Mr. Sh what is happening inside my classroom? So we start with a morning daily review where kids practice their math skills. We learn about phonics using the Orton Gillingham um approach. It's the OG which is the phonics and phological awareness too. And then we have the letter tiles. The
letter tiles I learned it also in OG. It's like I cut all those letters and give to the kids with groups. So all the letters five letters of each and then we do spelling and patterns by using all those letter tiles. So it's kind of like sensory for the kids do and it's also color coding to identify the um vowels and con consonants and then um before the end of the day we will be dive into skills practice using DISE as you can see right there in the picture math manipulatives practicing on English language and art skills and all other resources that we can find to learn the skills that they need. So what are the things what are the things that my kids are looking forward? So as you can see you have there
the reward jar in the dance. So what is the reward jar? Um reward jar is they get a gem when they follow the rules in using the restrooms. So we have some um problems before that kids are so you know inside the bathroom they are doing something or whatever they're very no inside the restroom. So we made this rules that if they get into the into the restroom in and out quickly. So if they get they get the jam and they need to be quiet in the hallway too just not to interrupt the classes going on in the whole in the classroom in the other classrooms. So if they get the jam and they filled it up the they will fill up the the the jar. Once they filled it up they will get a
reward like popcorn party, pizza party or ice cream party. So they already filled it up. Um, where was that? Uh, during our >> Halloween party. So, I brought food for them just and then I told them this is because you guys filled up our jar and they were very happy about that and right now they're really trying their best to fill up that chart. So it's something for them was to to motivate them to be more um uh their behavior is refraing and you know uh how do you call that one behave in the hallway. So this is something they need to earn in a long-term basis. We all have we also have like icebreaker. So this is kind of like a dance that the kids are allowed to dance with their friends be silly
and they love it. It is a way of reframing their minds that they have been basically practicing their skills for almost a full day and also taking their mind off that it's almost time to go home, right? And they lost their focus and interest. So, it's kind of like bringing them in. We're not yet done with our work. So, yeah. And another thing that they're looking forward is the cookie reward. Right there we have there the behavior traffic chart. So they will get a cookie at the end of the day if they stayed in green in a traffic light behavior chart. Staying in green means following directions and following our social contract and referring back to it. It is something they look forward to have at the end of the day. So sometimes the kids
will ask me can I get another can I get another cookie or maybe like a cracker or candy? It makes me nauseous when I ride a bus or something like that. So I always have something for them to choose on like they have candies or they want it crackers like print pre crers or cookies like that. So and if they stay in green for the whole month they have this treasure box so they get to get a prize like notebook stuff toys and stickers and the like but they mostly like stuffed things so we have it. So they were like going to get the first place of getting it. I was like nope we need to be fair. So we do it with Della and sometimes I wanted to get a you know she she
got like the last piece and she was like oh my god you know all those reaction from the kids but so cute and they were looking forward to it every month. So in the classroom we also have fun activities to balance academic learning. My kids were introduced into simple robotics. Uh it comes from donut juice. So I voted like a fan for it and they they sent in all those um materials. So the kids were able to do simple robotics. So they were learning about simple circuits, problem solving and most specially troubleshooting cuz if they don't put those arms on this little bristle books, it will just spin around. So they need to manipulate whatever the pins of it. So it can it can go forward, it can go backward or can go spinning like
a billerina as they said that the ice gok like ice go skating or something like that. So they are always experimenting on how to you know manipulate those super roads. Okay. So we also have art projects anchored to the month celebration which is also based on the social status status standards like um de mertos the Thanksgiving we just we learn about it and also the next thing we're going to do is all about Christmas so of course I'm a teacher so we need to do a recap [laughter] so so when this cage um center we have diverse learning components I also mentioned about the activities that the kids are looking forward to and lastly the activities that the kids love doing to to balance fun and academic learning. So you are more than welcome to
come and visit and witness our day our day goes in our classrooms. Well just don't forget to check in the front office or I'm gonna [laughter] That's it. Any questions? >> Any questions? >> Thank you. >> We're all business report. board president and board members. I'm here just to update the board on the projects that we've been working on in the business office. Um, of course, you all know um successfully and congratulations to all of you for your work on our bond election and getting that passed. Right now we're starting to just work on all the documentation and all the requests and all the information that we have to have available um for PSFA PS and also we'll begin working on um selling the bonds this summer once we get the tax tax rate set
they set it in August um then we can actually go to market and sell the bonds. Um so we'll be working on that as this time. um wait and just an update on the audit. Um the state auditor has still the all the audits in the state around delay because of the federal shutdown. So we can't get the documentation that you need from the federal part of the audit to to do that. So the state auditor has put all the audits on hold um until further notice. We're on the audit is pretty much done, but they can't release anything until they get the federal information that goes into it as well. So that's what we're waiting on in the app. Um Sean and I and mostly Sean, but we've been working on the 40th day
count getting that certified all the calendars and the and the information for that. Um and Sean's done a great job with that this year. It's gone really really smooth. Um we did get um all the calendar approved. We've got most of I think most of the documentation and the data in there has been approved. Um, and we ended up, we haven't seen the actual final from the peed, but the 40th day count we look is at about 185 students right now for the district. So, that's a growth quite quite a few students this year. So, we're um happy with that. Um, we're working on the other uh factors that go into the SAT like the teacher the TCI which is the teaching experience. So, we had to submit that in October. So, we'll know what
our factor is on that as well. Um, the other thing we're working on is all the grant reporting compliance. Um, a lot of the grant reporting is due. We've been working with the principles on getting that information um for the Indian grant, the school improvement grants, um, DOS ML grants, those kind of things that we're trying to do the reporting and gather the data on that. So, those are the projects that have kept us kept us busy in addition to the day-to-day operating. Um, and I stand for any questions. >> Questions. Thank you. Moving on. Letter C, principal reports. Mr. >> Good evening. Good evening everyone. First of all, I just want to thank the staff for coming over and uh presenting. Uh I think uh what you can see there is that there's a
lot of good things going on in our schools. Um first of all, I just kind of want to start staffing at the at hour here. We're pretty good. Uh we're all fully staffed. The enrollment, we're 125. We lost a couple of kids in the last couple of weeks. One student, uh elementary just enrolled. uh what um was enrolled and I guess he was staying with grandma and I dad and mom wanted him home so he went back home with them and then another middle school student touches enrolled uh the building c the students continue working keeping it up uh in October we had red ribbon week uh those are some of the events that we had all red uh it was pretty neat to see all the the students the staff members really participate in
all these uh different days pajama days I I mean, uh, what kid doesn't like to wear to school and teachers wear suits. So, that was pretty fun to see him. Uh, >> otherwise known as Walmart shopping. >> Yeah. Yeah. Look like Walmart on a Saturday morning. So, uh, the dynamic duos. It was nice to see kids uh, you know, dressed like uh, like twins and stuff. And then, of course, uh, Spook Day was pretty cool to see all those uh, different things. Um, couple months ago, a local outfitter by the name of Bart Martinez called me and said that he was having some hunters come in in October and that they wanted to donate some uh stuff, some supplies to the school. So, I uh kind of compiled a list of uh supplies that they
uh the teachers are kind of asking for and uh they came in October the 27, they came in with a trader note and they just bought a bunch of stuff for the teachers. So, I'm in the process. I just got their addresses today. So, I'll be writing them a thank you note from the, you know, thank you note for the in appreciation of the stuff that they donated. Uh, one of the things that I said is that he's been doing this for 30 plus years and this is the first time that a set of hunters have asked to donate some stuff to the school. So, that was pretty cool. [clears throat] uh the professional developments that we've had. Of course, you guys talked you saw the presentations from the from the high school students from
the teachers that went to Gallup uh the school improvement. We had a a a beginning of the year site with from PED uh that they came and talked to us. a training that we had uh on Friday was an MLSS and that's how to really track our kids those kids that are having issues whether the academics attendance or behavioral. So we kind of went through that uh that training and then an arcom training came and then of course our district uh science PLC uh uh meeting and then again uh they talked about the science leadership uh um training. I also last week I had uh Dr. Matt Williams come and work with elementary teachers well our K K through six teachers our math uh uh professional de development and um and yesterday uh Dora from
CES came and worked with our uh our K our teachers as well and she working with math. So all the all the professional development that we're doing is really doing our standard alignment. So the math uh Dr. Williams comes and works with the teachers on how to use manipulatives to teach math, how to look at the kids work. Are they is the work that they're giving the kids do they align to the standard or not? Uh the CES they're coming and looking at some of the resources that we're using. Do they align to the standards? Um I feel that that this is very important go uh work and I really feel we're going to benefit from it uh at the end of the year. Um if we're not if our standard if our teachers don't
completely understand the standards they can't teach the the the resource we're using. So it's going to I really believe that it's really going to uh benefit uh the science leadership uh uh training that we went to as the teacher spoke. [clears throat] It's all about different strategies on teaching uh uh the science the standards but not only can you use those strategies in science but it could be used in every in every uh uh mass ALA. And one of the things that um that I really like about it is that the the first tip is really uh letting the kids explore. Give them the give them the work that you want them and let them explore. Let them come up with ideas on how to solve the problem. Uh, I kind of feel like that's
kind of that productive struggle, you know, let them let them struggle a little bit, but productive making them think on how to do it and then the teacher comes in and and uh and helps them out. Uh, like Miss uh, Chavez said for the for that u school improvement uh, grant, Miss Tanya Diego also went to that training, but she wasn't able to be here tonight. She had to deal with her father. But again, it's about setting goals on how to really set goals that they'll meet our kids uh needs. Also, they talked about today we met with uh with elementary PLC on really revisiting our 90-day plan. It's that 30-day visit. Are we meeting our goals? If we're not meeting those goals, what are the things that we need to change? Why are we
not getting there? What are other changes that are needed to meet our goals? So, we met that on today on our PLC meeting. So again, all the all the trainings that uh that we got set up, it's really uh aligning uh it's all about standard alignment. Uh we started testing uh uh NWA this week, yesterday, and today. So uh just like any uh testing that we when we start it uh there's always glitches. So as soon as that we got them going and uh we got most of it gets tested. So now we just got to start looking at the makeups. Uh and uh in your report I did put uh athletic uh in the kind of athletic uh report there so you guys can see what uh all the the good things that happen
in the the fall sports. Um that's all I got. It's time for any questions. >> I have a question. How is the seventh period basketball? >> We're starting that now. >> Yeah, >> it it's going they've been uh they've been practicing this week. There's going to be some changes that we're going to have to make, but uh but it's uh it's it's going both the boys and girls. >> Got a lot of questions regarding after school practice versus seventh period practice, and we've got to get that ironed out as you all approved with the schedule to get get kids home earlier in the evenings. So, yeah. >> And the goal is to really try to get more kids involved in in athletics. If we have it during the day, I think we'll get more participation.
Well, now in the winter it's kind of hard for the kids also being home late. Yeah. Doing homework, you know, it's dark early now. So, yeah. No, I think it's going to I think it's going to go both. >> One other question I have, have uh the classes are started doing their fundraising for for the spring for >> they're doing some fundraising. Yeah. And uh we talked about that. There's a big opportunity coming on in December in Lake Brookbrook. So, we got to just encourage those folks to go out there. >> Yeah. No. >> Yeah. >> Yes. Several of the chapter houses and part of the Navajo Nation meeting >> in our building on December 6th, a Saturday library school. It's a great opportunity for BPA. So, I mean the multi. >> Yeah, of course
it's on a Saturday, but still it's a great opportunity for uh to uh to raise money. There's going to be a lot of people there. >> I have a question about cell phones. Are we enforcing that? Is that happening? >> We're enforcing it uh as much as uh I can. I got to do a little bit more right now. And me and Mr. Kushman have talked about this. Uh you go to the lunch or breakfast and you don't see a whole lot of cell phones out. So I can't approach them to put them away. But uh sometimes there's a a good uh amount of phones in their boxes. Some days they're not. But we keep reminding them if we see them, we take them away. We ask them to put them away. It's going to
be it's going to be a a fight all year long. It's uh it's going to be a battle. >> Yeah. I was just wondering. That's we're we're trying to enforce a yes. >> And then I had a question about um the volleyball stuff. I had a lot of parents call because games were getting changed or times were getting changed last minute and I guess our kids went late to a few games and they got cancelled and they were bar games and not sure what was going on but they [clears throat] were very frustrated. So I got calls on that. >> Yeah, I know. Sometimes uh the the games are changed due to uh the refs. Right now there's a ref short sorties all over the state. So >> I was told that our kids got
there late and this they cancelled the game. >> Yeah, Mr. Ruffy would did have one game. I think it was >> that was there was bad weather in construction so we had lower bus driver. So, we did have to make an adjustment on that loft limit as far as that particular game. >> But in all further to Mr. They did they didn't get there that late. The the game should have been played. >> Okay. >> They chose to uh to uh postpone it. But in all reality, they were there with time to play >> and then are we getting like those last minute changes on times and games? As soon as I get them, sometimes the schools right away, they'll say, "We have a schedule change." As soon as I get notification of that, I
send it out to our coaches. So hopefully they're communicating that out to parents. So we're reinforcing that. We're also working on uh contracts with other schools to prevent stuff like this from happening in the future. Is it was not pleasant. So, I had a call from the NMA today from the director asking if we would be interested. Well, he wanted to get my opinion. I said I'd discuss it tonight about staying in the district we're in or going back to more of the north central norththeast quadrant with some of the other schools that back whenever used to be mixed with it. Of course, it's all dependent on class and size. But uh I know my thoughts, but um I I I won't share those right now, but I'd like to hear from the folks here
tonight so that tomorrow when I report to him, I can get just a general feel. It's not a voting thing, just general input. Do we want to stay with the Northwest Quadrant? Some of the BIE schools, I guess. I'm not even sure who those are versus uh Summer, possibly Maxwell. a couple of those other districts that you used to play more often. >> I think we're better off staying where we're at because if not you're driving all the way to the other other end of the state and then especially in the winter they get bad going that way the east where we're at less trouble. >> We're also going to discuss it at our end meeting tomorrow morning. Thank you. >> Thank you, Miss Montoya. See if she can hear us. Mononttoya, are you there?
>> There she is. No, >> sorry. I was trying to um I clicked on my report and then covered the Zoom meeting. So, >> we need you to speak a little louder into your microphone, please. >> Yep. Hold on. Okay. Um, good evening everybody. Uh, you have my report in front of you. >> Are you okay? Can you hear me? Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I have one yes and one kind of. So, I will try to shout as loud as I can and see if we can and get this going. So, um, in my report, and really quickly before I forget, I just wanted to tell you a story from Miss Maggosaurus's report that the students when they were doing, um, the robotics, they were very excited. And I was passing them in the
hall and they were telling me on different things that they were making the robots do. And I said, "Did you program them?" And they didn't really understand that the the concept. And I said, "Did you tell it what to do?" And type in things to tell it what to do. and then they got excited and started talking about programming. And so just to kind of let you all know that that's the sort of initiative that she took. Uh this was a mini grant that she wrote uh to a program called donorchwoose.org and it's available to teachers um in the state of New Mexico where companies donate to give materials to teachers that they write a grant for and the teacher never sees any money. all they get are the materials that they asked for. So
that's just a resource for our teachers. Um the Liebrook December 6 um event that everyone was talking about just now is the Eastern Navajo Nation uh meeting. And so um the counselor chapter house is hosting it and they asked if they could have it at Librook. And so so far the agreement is the business professionals of America BPA are going to host that. And so um as far as I know both of the coordinators are uh coming together to plan that and the what has been asked for to serve and this is these are the choices. So choice is um enchilada Spanish rice with vegetables or mutton stew with fried bread and melon or ribs roast corn on the cob and mashed potatoes with gravy and green beans or a turkey dinner. So this is
just what people who are going to attend the meeting have asked for and this is from our chapter president Mrs. WTO. So, um, just to give you, uh, a little bit more information so you know what's happening in the district. So, um, and just like Mr. Hawkins said, uh, we're doing the, uh, NEWA training and WA as well, and we're finishing that up. Um, in the report, I I still have the, um, the goals for the for Library schools. Um, and I those are always the same, so I won't read them to you. I did want to report on some of the important uh dates that we had listed and I put some pictures there for you just to give you an update. So October 17 preK to second grade uh field trip to uh
Galloping Goats that's in Rio Rancho. It's a pumpkin patch. And then um a picture a couple pictures of our Red Ribbon Week. Uh this is one class that dressed red. And again like Mr. Haka said the dress days and the other picture is um the rack stop presenters from Espanola talking to the students about drug and alcohol prevention. And then October 28 we had our youth peer-to-peer helper retreat. So that's um when students are voted by their peers as someone that they if they're someone that um the cla the classmates trust to talk to and and things like that. And then there's a training um as to what the student is supposed to do um if there's like a situation that comes up that's a little bit more serious. And so that's the peer-to-peer helper
um training. And then we had um nappy um the field of pumpkins that uh where our our workers got pumpkins for every single student. Uh next year we were asking if we could take a field trip out there to talk about um Navajo Nation agricultural projects and so that way they could have a presentation and in the end they could pick their own pumpkin because we had some uh problems in getting these delivered to the school or picked up by staff to get delivered to the school. So, um, that's the plan for next school year and, uh, also to make it a a place-based learning project. And then November 5th, we had the Native American Literacy Night and it was a big success. Um, we served a full meal at the end of um, all
of the presentations and there were literacy presentations. Uh there was reading encouragement for the families and then they'd had um two hands-on projects uh moccasin making and what was the other rug weaving and I think dream dreamcatcher making and talking about different Native American tribes that that have those and then um different books that they had. So um how the stars fell into the sky and then the students could make their own constellation. Um the last picture uh where you see the the Miss Elwell on the floor with the students, she's having them read um animal tracks and she has them have a handout that they could open up and find clues at what this animal is and they'd have to guess what the tracks are. And then on the wall she had a little
postit of um what it is so you could pick up the little construction paper covering it and read what animal it is. So, it was it was a lot of fun. So, it was a good evening and we had some um volunteers that pitched in and um just just served and it was a very good evening. Um, November 11, we had a presentation from the VFW Post uh in Shiprock. And this kind of happened by chance from the summer when we had a field trip to um the the park in Farmington, the All-American Park, where they had a presentation. So, this time around, um, Quartermaster Mark Decker, who served in the Marines, came out and spoke to the students. Uh he gave them a um Veterans Day um I guess a placemat with some activities
on it and a red poppy uh to put on their um their person. And so um it was it was a very good presentation. So those are just some of the things that we did following our important Libro dates and I'll let you um look through that. We are going to have Missoula Children's Theater come to Liebrook and the two performances will be December 4 and I'll post um I'll send an announcement of what time those will be because it hasn't been uh set. And then uh there they wanted a winter program on December 18th. That's the last day of the semester. And in order to increase attendance, um, we decided to do that because it's the last day of the semester, right before Christmas break. And so lunch will be pulli and tamali's. And,
uh, they we're calling it a Christmas lunch. And so, um, you're welcome to come and attend. And, um, so anyway, there's that. the New Mexico dash um we ended up following up with the critical actions because when we did our 30-day um check-in, it was found that we weren't being we weren't doing these things with fidelity. So um if you see on the part where it says NM dash and staff meeting responsibilities, um those are the lists of critical actions that I showed you last month. And then on the check-in, the 30-day check-in, um it said teachers will meet in PLC's twice a week at first and then in December they will meet once a week and we weren't following through with that. So, we're back on track because we've had um a a staff
meeting where we said we really need to revisit um our our critical actions and see if we're doing that. So I put the groups there for you of which teachers are meeting when and the fact that um they needed to start meeting twice a week until December. So um we're doing that and then the each of the meetings uh there are minutes and then um the student data analysis that is done at that um professional learning committee meeting. So just to let you know we're back on track for that. So, at the 60-day report, which is coming up pretty soon, we should have a better result. Um, there's positive things that are going on in Libbrook. Um, we give out a monthly attendance, perfect attendance, and nearperfect attendance certificate with a book vending machine token.
So, the students can um go to the vending machine and use it's a little golden token and they can put it in the machine and get a book. It's like a big vending machine they can pick out. And I was really surprised that the fourth to sixth grade boys were asking for Pete the Cat. So, we're going to have to look for those. Um, and it's a good motivator. So, now they all expect it and they ask me if I'm a day late. Where are our tokens and certificates for our perfect attendance? Um the consistent weekly submission of lesson plans has been really good because teachers are are um informally meeting with each other and they're uh having their lesson plans um collaborate more. Um there's a a mentoring of our first and second grade
teacher and um I'm mentoring an upcoming administrator in our district. Uh there's Oh, and then the Navajo class, the favorite game is Navajo Bingo. I got to watch and it's kind of interesting because um be well because I'm part Apache and part Navajo. And I uh started my education career teaching Apache. So I tell the students and teachers um okay, how do you say, you know, whatever in something in Navajo? because in Apache we say and so we're finding things are very similar and it's it's just a um active learning thing that we have for students to be able to continue their language um whatever it is their heritage language. So um e class has started and it does encompass grades K through 8 and um um we have our only teacher who is Tissel
endorsed teaching it and she has uh I think she has 13 students right now. So that's the first hour of the day is EL class. Um the math adoption has started and that came out from um Liebrook to make sure that we are on target for the math adoption for this school year. And then of course we've we started hydroponics and it was kind of funny. I was rereading some schoolboard reports from the administrators and library previously. I came upon a 2023 uh report to schoolboard and it said we started hydroponics. And so I thought that was kind of neat that we're carrying that on and with the help of the um the district science PLC were able to do this here in Librick too. And of course you saw Miss Magasaura's uh robotics and
our BPA and student council have have uh been very active lately. So, our enrollment was 62 as of uh Veterans Day. And as you heard in the teacher presentation, uh capturing kids hearts is um a big part of the the of the day. Um I watch uh Miss Maggassur's class. If I don't know if you saw it, it's the picture with the four uh circles on the wall. And what it is is um a handshake, a high five, a dance, or a greeting. And at the beginning of the day, they all line up in the hall and this is her morning greeting. And so the student gets to pick what they want and they tap it on the wall and then she says good morning and she says the student name. So if they pick
a dance, they tap on dance and they dance together and then she says good morning and then they go into class. So it's just a positive way to start class and to have students to look forward to the beginning of the day and so that too also increases attendance. Um the other part was we wanted to um again just uh say thanks for the work on the bond that was done and we're looking forward to the school improvements that we'll be receiving. So um and that's that's most of my report. Other than that, we're looking at the updated Martinez Yazi plan to see how else we can um implement other things to be able to comply and to increase um just basic you know Native American and um par place based sorry placebased learning projects
and things like that. So that way the students can learn the heritage language, learn pedagogy of the the heritage that they have and then learn in the place that they are born and where they grow up and where they will probably be working when they graduate from high school. So that is my report. Oh, and then the picture, the last picture was um the Native American dress up day and then the um the uh Native American literacy uh night picture. So I stand for questions. Any questions? >> No questions. Thank you. So, Mr. President, we somehow missed the AD report on the agenda, but maybe you could do it under the two principles here if that's okay with you. A brief report. You have a brief report, Mr. B. >> Yes. >> Whatever is going
on. We'll put you on the spot here. Oh, >> part of being an administrator. >> We have ended our volleyball cross country seasons. We're moving into basketball as you guys know. schedules. They've come out as you saw in your email. There was already a schedule change and there will be another one coming from Pine Hill again. It's our JV I think it's the 24th. That one got cancelled after it got scheduled. We are doing our best to keep that from happening and making uh disaster season for our kids. What else do we have going? Life Brook is continuing their athletics basketball. The first game is December 9th. Here it is next Monday the 24th. Middle school their first game is Tuesday the 25th here. Um what else do we have? I think that should be
it for um this is the first year. We are not going to conflict with BPA state. We've worked very hard to get that. So we we will not have that conflict on the 19th 20th 21st when they are doing their state. We will be all done with districts. And I stand for questions. Your boys basketball has an exhibition game coming up. >> Yes. Alumni will be on the 21st. Sounds like we have some people interested. I >> think so. Hopefully. >> Wouldn't it be a good idea to have the board president and the newborn? >> Sounds like a good idea. >> So hopefully everybody can come out, enjoy some food and some fun times. And any other questions? So, the boys and girls basketball game, the high school's win, the first game, >> the first
one next Monday, the 24th at 4 4:30. That'll be our JV. And then we play JV, girls varsity, boys varsity that night. So, >> we can get some of those schedules posted like at post offices and stuff. >> We can do that. >> Any questions? >> Okay, thank you guys. It's all right with you. May Sean present from the table here or you need to stand. >> So my pop. >> Um so the update that I have right now is the Gina internet. We're still having issues in the high school wing of the uh well of the school in the high school wing. there's some issue and it's not with windstream. It doesn't seem like cuz it only affects one side of the school. I've been working with the elite and he believes he uh
with Russ and he believes that he uh might have figured something out. He made some changes, some settings on that side of his school to see if that helps. Um, in the meantime, uh, he does have a plan of bringing out their network specialist that he moved to Illinois. So, they're trying to get him out here. So, you could just watch our network and look at it for a week straight to see what's going on and why it's only that side of the school has been really being affected by this internet uh, issues. And I was made aware uh, today in Lightbrook, I guess there was some issues that popped up. Um, I'm not sure if it was weather caused the issues in Lightbrook as I was out of district today. Um, and we'll see
how that goes tomorrow. We'll figure out what's going on there and uh move forward with that slide. I stand for any questions. Can we talk about starting at one point? >> Uh, so the issue with Starving Kid that we ran into is because we have it out at Lightbook right now. The issue we're running into with Lightroom is the data cap on it. And we keep hitting the data cap in Lightroom and it slows down to nothing. The speed of like minimal >> and um it's thought the cost to get a higher speed higher data cap is astronomically higher than what it will be for winching. Um, and the big issue it it doesn't seem to be a windstream issue. It seems to be some of our something in our uh on our end that
might be causing issues, some interference somewhere that we're running into. Uh, we have been working on it for months and I've had Bill mainly, Andrew, and Russ mainly and none of them none of us could hear I was doing. So now they're getting the N specialist out here to hopefully figure [clears throat] out what's going on and why it's only affecting part part of the school and not the entire uh school. >> So how much are we paying a library for starting? >> Uh I believe it is currently around 1,200 >> a month. >> Yes. >> And instream >> I believe we're around 700. >> It's less than half >> around. We're still working on getting it down further. Yeah, there's a lot of questions on the regulations, but >> that'll be the maximum. >>
That's what we're told. >> So you you what you're saying is either go back to Windstream or we can't go back to diagram. >> Uh we're working on getting Windstream out there right now. There's >> that. >> They have ran the wires to Windstream for Liro. It's just a lot of issues with the firewall. They're trying to charge us extra for firewall when we already have one installed there and they're trying to charge us two for them to run it for us. >> They want a couple grand a month for just the firewall >> instead of letting us on our behalf is fighting that and trying to make that a non requirement since we already have the firewall. Russell will be here by >> any questions? >> Thank you. Moving on to main update. Mr.
Jeremy, he is not here this evening. He was uh left early not feeling well. But uh basically Jeremy has been or one of his men have been going to the library campus at minimum once a week to just keep up on general maintenance out there along with the custodial maintenance uh person that's already assigned. Uh and Sean by the way has been going out once a week to library as well to address their concerns or any issues that come up. So that's helped a lot with just general upkeep on the programs here on the main campus. are continuing to clean out the buildings and old items that are off the inventory list or going away. If they're on the inventory list, they're um being set aside and and someday we'll have either a bid process
or auction or if the state approves the giveaway. We can get rid of all the extra. But if you walk through and behind the buildings, you'll notice a lot of things have uh been cleaned up. So, we're working on that. Uh the two contractors that uh that I got while Jeremy was out on his leave u they've done a pretty good job of uh the remodel at the L or at the Lindrith house is almost complete. We got to move a pellet still in that one room. Other than that I think it's almost done ready for someone to move into. Um and then u and also out at the library school the water system hookups he's been working on those. so we can get the teachers put in there and I'll update him more on
that a little bit. And then uh here on this campus, Abel's been up updating the housing as far as paint sopets and facia and the rotten wood around and coffee windows that sort of thing. So it's looking a lot better, a little bit slow, but sure. Any specific questions about either campus? Okay. All right. Well, let me be careful. Clean the weeds and around the houses that the treat will is very tenant responsible or >> the tenants will be fully responsible in the spring when they start to grow again. The uh new FFA group has been going around campus and some of their time and actually uh did weed whacking and mowing and clean up around the main campus. You might see some of the trimming up is looking a lot better. That's uh thanks
to Mr. old in that group. We said we'll finish out this season, the fall season, now that it's frozen a few times and can hang a meeting here tonight. That's the way I feel. Um, a lot of that's been happening. We're we've already informed the people of the residents that they are responsible for their own fee and you should see some clean up in a couple of houses that we did very soon. Okay. >> [clears throat] >> went out. Miss Sandy, I told Sandy earlier. >> We met last night. We had some good conversations. Um, and we've discussed any questions we had on the reports. And with that uh we would move forward with recommending approval of the later items we discussed with journal entries and budget journal entries and not >> okay moving on
super we have a lot going on as you are aware >> um I will go over the next steps here at the end of my report um We addressed the cell phone question that keeps coming up and basketball practice. Um, want to congratulate Mr. Valdez for joining the school board and we'll talk more about that next month. Um, anyway, uh, personnel, recruiting, retention, and hiring. We have started the interview process for the position in central office. Uh we're working through background checks and a few logistical issues on that, but u we hope to have an individual finalized here very soon. Uh the teacher that we offered a job to who accepted for the library position at the middle school is now tied up because of the government shutdown and some changes in the policies for
immigration. And we're working through those, but uh it looks like she'll still join us. it's going to be even longer than we expected. And we checked with legal to see can we cut that off and go out uh and revertise for the position. And the answer is no. We are obligated. Um and she's still committed to being here. We still want her here. Um but getting here from the Philippines is a likely process right now. So hopefully right after Christmas, we'll have that. I believe that uh we did hire an EA for the uh campus here. She's a level three. Bethany Cordova is coming back to the community and um she was supposed to start Monday, but the statewide background check system is uh causing us some conflicts. We have actually some substitute teachers and
so on that are being held up that we really need on board but we can't legally put them in a position until background check clears and so that's not on their end it's on the state system end the background system and Patricia in our office is working with the state to try to get that resolved but it's apparently happening in several districts so you'll hear more about those individuals coming soon. Uh we do have an issue with uh especially in this community uh people passing school buses illegally and it's happening often. Uh it's happening when buses are stopped. I was uh we got a video sent to us yesterday from one of our parents just outside of town uh to the east here uh of semi trucks flying by the opposite direction. individuals uh passing
in their cars literally from behind the bus and around the bus and that sort of thing. So, I've already contacted the sheriff's office and expect to see more red lights soon and I'm not going to talk about specifics there, but uh we are dealing with that issue. And then on our public school facilities meeting today, I've been pushing the issue of getting a turning lane added to Highway 550. I know this board has tried to get that to happen in the past, but I'm going to keepounding our legislators um and whoever we need. When Raymond's driving that way in the morning, he said it's uh you know, he's turning on the flashers as he's about to turn into the school. And once in a while, people slow down, but it's just a matter of time
before we have a serious accident out there. and uh the governor's been contacted, but we're going to have to push that the legislature I think and with all of our representatives and just statewide. So, uh we are aware of that issue. I'll talk more about housing in a minute. Uh you all have a school board training here coming up in December. We do have rooms and registration complete and um if you would like to attend that, we need to get you set up for that. Okay. Uh you've already heard quite a bit about staff development and training and so I won't go bel uh public school facilities was impressed with the application that Darice and I gave and with the help of Elise Ramos and her input we applied for the match funds in a
timely manner uh before the election. That was part of our advertising that we are eligible for the match uh up to 50 plus million dollars with the bond that passed uh the day after the election or two days after the election. I received an email saying uh they had received all of our input. I got to change this here. Um and uh uh they would like to have a meeting with us. They didn't give a lot of detail. They're a little bit disorganized at public school facilities. They just sent the email to me saying we'd like to meet with you. But I had our whole team join us. We had the principles from both schools, Darice, me, Elise Ramos join us on that meeting and they uh I guess assumed that we would all do
that anyway. But uh uh we had a lengthy meeting today, a lot of questions from them and we gave a presentation back and answered their questions. But uh I also have the next steps. So, I want to just mention these uh in order the next steps after the bond election. And by the way, PSFA told us that our bond here passed with a higher percentage than almost any bond election in the state for schools. That's pretty impressive. Even though it was a small number, the percentage of approval was great. They were pretty impressed by that. And they asked about board support. Is the board really supporting this bond election? and they they need to know that it's a long-term support and process. Um, they also need to know that we uh, one of their rating
questions on the match presentations coming up is uh, did we present? Did we put out the word to the community? And I was able to talk about the ROOC calls, the mailing we did, the flyer that went out at sporting events and speaking personally. I spoke at at least two churches in the community to the folks that were gathered there. So uh that's all good news for the process. So uh PSFA has contacted us to discuss the applications. We did that meeting today. Uh they now will have a site visit for the standards project and maybe the systems project. The difference between those two is librook is mostly systems projects. This building is called systems. That's heating, cooling, fire alarms, any of those systems that are an existing building that we're not going to tear
down. Um they don't do a site visit all the time for those. They may choose to visit fiber. They already have the information necessary there. Um then they will make a physical visit to this campus. They want to make sure they're look at the buildings again that need to be cleaned. And they want to look at our school and all the cracks in the buildings and the stains in the ceiling where roof is leaked. And I've already prepped the teachers last inservice. I don't know. We we did a little group thing about what do we tell PSFA when they're visiting? We need what? >> More space. Uh CTE. We are the model school for CTE in the state. And so we need separate spaces for each of the CTE programs. Uh we expect our prek
program to continue to grow. I think it was Mr. Moffett uh brought up was it you that brought out the indoor playground? >> Uh Jay. >> Okay. Oh Jillian would like one of those. You remember at McDonald's around they used to have the indoor so I pushed that today at the meeting. Uh indoor it's in process now thanks to Mr. Moffet. It it was very uh time consuming to say the least. And so purchase orders, I approved the purchase orders for all three of the playgrounds just a few days ago. We had to redo them because of uh the funding sources and so on. And it's been a nightmare. It's ridiculous. But um they are expected to be soon. He's got Mr. Moffet did all the late work on that. So I don't want to
take credit for any of that except signing the purchase order. So, uh, hopefully very soon, but just in time for winter, right? So, we can have an ice slide or um then PSFA after their visit, they'll come out and if they have any questions about the scope and sequence of the uh facilities, we will have to discuss that. Then that we we I hopefully a board member or two, maybe a couple students and teachers will show up for the uh PSOC presentation. They they had told us originally that it would be in March. Today they said it's going to be in March or Aprilish, whatever that means. Uh they're short staff, so we are told them we could do it tomorrow if we need to. We're ready. Uh we except we're not quite ready. We
need a slide presentation which Miss Ggo's class is going to be doing for us so and videos. We'll be uh very well prepared for that. Uh that will include a visual presentation. The C council will ask us all questions at the presentation. It can be intimidating for some. Uh it shouldn't be a big deal. We're at the top of the state's list. They're pretty impressed with what's happening in our district. Um then next if approved PSFA will send the district an award letter to sign and return and then we will send a memorandum of understanding back to them and get on with selecting architects and engineers and getting that whole process going. bond sales can happen as early as July and uh [clears throat] uh we'll get going on what we need in the first
round with funding and get those done. So right now the the order of things would be um the systems at LIR or the probably the highest priority for systems, fire alarm updates, uh the water system, the sewer system which has been having problems this week. um possibly that storage tank for additional water out there, that kind of thing. This building, the uh heating and cooling systems here, they were amazed that we had no cooling systems other than the old swamp coolers, but they were amazed that we had no refrigerator air in our facility. So, that got their attention today. And then phase one would begin. Oh, and then teacher is the housing. I was advised there. were hanging on to the money for the teaches in case we needed it for the match. The advice
we got from Miss Ramos today was to go ahead with purchase of two or three of the teaches because we won't need that amount of money for the match. So, we're going to try to get that process going quickly. So, we'll get at least one out of one or two here in this campus. Um, so that process will start tomorrow morning. Um and then planning and design. We'll have a group that will need to tour some other facilities before we finalize the architect. We want to see what other schools are doing. Uh the one that best fits our projects right now, I believe, is over at Msterel. They've done quite a bit of building and you know they're smaller than us and they've run into some of the difficulties we'll have being remote and so
on but we'll want to hit places like Monero where other districts our size and then possibly districts like Gallup. They're always built in Gallup. So we'll talk to those districts about the process and then uh then after we get going on phase one then we'll request phase two and then hopefully construction will begin. But uh the good thing is is these two buildings that have been sitting vacant now for some time were already on the state's list for demolition uh and clean up back 5 years ago. So they're still up at the top and that would be the first real major thing to happen on this campus would be demolition of those buildings and hauling off of the debris and then uh either clearing that site, prepping it for the new school or another location.
But I'm not an engineer, so I won't make those recommendations till we see their reports. Did I miss anything in there? >> Right. >> So, well, you get the name of the one that did school hiding. [laughter] >> Right. And that's something the teachers feedback, the teachers that were here or remember when all that was done is, you know, they built in the winter time and times where the the soil was heaving and all that. And you can see the results if you're a lot know my wife walked through the buildings when she was here a couple weeks ago and a few weeks ago and she said it looks pretty good but that's because our crew is doing a good job and the upkeep and said it's all heightened. That's the problem and uh we
have plenty to show uh the people that are coming for the site visit and we're going to show them every nook and cranny of this place and the system. So that's on the building. Um let's see. I did make a change on substitute pay. I did not go to the union about this. And it's not a pay for hourly rates, so that's why I didn't do that. But rather than paying substitutes by the hour for eight hours a day when they come in for any position, EA, teaching, maintenance, whatever it may be. Um, I gave instructions today uh to our office to pay by the half day because sometimes we'll have a teacher that maybe shows up and I'm sick or their child is sick and they got to go home. We call a sub
last minute and they only get, you know, two hours of pay for the morning or one hour of pay and that's a that's not very much for that. And the districts I've been in, I I said, "Let's just do it by half a day." So if they work anytime in the morning up to lunchtime, it would be $60 for the half day. If they go past lunch, it's the 120. Comes out the same for a full day, but felt that was more fair for our substitutes and recruiting. And we really need to sub day, but we won't do it this school year. We'll look at that in the spring. had three lowest for GED, diploma, degree, and certified teachers. But even the lowest one needs to be higher than this so we can get all
quality subs. And then um I've got things for executive session, but stand for questions. >> That was a lot. >> Okay. Trying to do it quick. Oh, I should answer your question from last night. you uh it was asset finance uh Sandy asked how that affects our time and central office and so on with all these projects and it will be um it's time consuming but for me it gets me going on this I like the construction process and and leading up to it and getting the right people and we had Darice who's a lot of experience on the bond sales um but it became very clear today with the meeting that it's going to be very very timeconuming the process. So once the building actually gets going, we may want to consider hiring a
construction manager. And that's not someone that you pay full-time, just someone that may have four districts or whatever. They make sure that the contractors are showing up on time and the work is being done properly. Well, that would all be part of the bond process. So um that's just something to keep in the back of our mind some. Okay. I have two more questions. >> So, the first one is um have we figured out a resolution or a way to help the parents that are driving their kids from Cuba so they're not having to drive all the way to Guyana to go all the way back? I know we talked about a couple board meetings to go, but >> they they can be picked up at the county line where we already turned the bus
from and so that's the only solution I we are not permitted to go in. Um, Cuba is not willing to let us stop in their district and so I can't even go to the state to ask permission for that. All right. So, right now those parents can drive to that bus stop, the nearest bus stop that we already have that exists and right now that's at the county line. >> Okay. And then my other question is now that we're working on getting the playground set up, was there any discussion about putting a playground at the park? Because [clears throat] we've been talking about that for a while now. I'm looking at the legal implications of taking this equipment and putting it over there with volunteers trying I I may have someone that's willing to sign
off on that or oversee it for us and still working with that. >> And then did we ever find the holdings policy? >> We did find and I don't like to call it a bullying policy. I like to call it the anti-bullying policy. But yes, you did approve that and um that's more of a Mr. Hawk question. Yes. Yes. Okay. >> But yes, it was found and it was approved uh what two years ago. >> Yeah. >> Where it was approved and uh as business goes up to one like the beginning of this year was >> it's it's kind of integrated into the student handbook, student staff parent handbook, >> but it is a separate standalone policy that should be referred to in that handbook. Okay. Okay, moving on to audit committee update. >> We
haven't had a committee meeting because we don't have an audit yet, but we're all waiting. So, as soon as we get a notice for an exit conference, we'll be contacting the committee. So, there isn't the report. >> Okay. Policy updates. >> Okay. Open meetings act. We discovered that uh we did not uh officially approve. We we discussed the open meetings. I I believe and I'm not sure when you did this last, but every fiscal year at some time during the fiscal year, you are supposed to reapprove the open meetings. It has not changed. Uh we've done some research on there. It is uh allowable with the open meetings act to insist that people online and those who present identify themselves by first and last name. That's a legal issue. Uh, someone brought up that it
was a violation of the open meetings act. It is not. It is actually um up to the local school board what you require online. You already made that policy. I'm recommending you adopt the uh standard open meetings act as you do each year with the language that your uh regular board meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month unless proper notice is given at 6 p.m. in this bill in this refrigerator. I'm sorry. >> Okay, moving on. That's the action. So, >> so we're on to discussion. No action. PSFAX steps for capital funding. Oh, you already talked about it. So, we can >> Yeah, I'd like you want me just to do that. >> Okay. So, uh, when she was applying, Miss Gagos was applying for this grant, we talked about the need
for a vehicle, I asked her to write into the grant that >> Hey, we're No, we're on the >> Oh, I'm sorry. PSFA next step for capital. >> You talk about I was looking at [clears throat] >> I was like, Crystal, are you gonna talk about All right, moving on to special. >> Okay, number one, innovation innovation sol. >> I am having some eye trouble and I can't see with or without my glasses. >> Sandy going against the brush here something for me. this item when Miss Gyos was doing the application for the grant. I had asked her to write in not that it was this suburban or expedition would be strictly for CTE because we do need vehicles. I am applying for capital funding for a couple more suburbans at the legislature this year.
But um I asked her to write it in that it would be for school use with the uh uh priority given to CTE and that's how she wrote it in and that's how it was approved. So if we have two groups going somewhere and there's only that suburban available, it goes to CTE and we this pricing is above right now what the two contractors through CT uh CES uh have for funding. So, if you approve this tonight for the purchase, we'll go ahead to CES and get that Suburban coming our way or you can get a Ford Expedition. I'm recommending we keep with all the same vehicles. >> Motion by Mr. Robert, second by Miss All in favor. >> Motion carries on to number two certification of cannabis November 4th, 2025 board election and go.
you have an email copy in your packets. I did talk to the county clerk's office today. It is not required for them to receive a signed copy, but for our records and past practice has meant to you having to approve the canvas the way that the county clerk's office counted the votes and keep a signed copy in our office. So, I'm recommending approval of the canvas. >> So, move second. >> Motion by second by all in favor. Motion carries. Moving on to number three, open meetings act for 25 26 approval. >> My recommendation is that you approve the do the annual approval of the open meetings act for the 2025 2026 fiscal year. Uh with uh the notification that our regular meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month unless there's other notice
at uh given in advance at 68. Can we have a motion? >> Motion by Musi. >> Second by Miss Sandy. All in favor? >> I. >> Motion carries. >> Going on to four amendment to the portable bus route contract at a bus stop at Lagoon Acres. It was brought to my attention. We now have students in Lagoon Acres and the parent was bringing them to the nearest stop, but she also has younger children who've had this stop on in the route in the past, but it has it's been several years. It would add an addendum to the current contract of 10.4 miles per day and approximately 10 to 15 minutes each way uh two runs a day and this money the additional money would be at the same rate that's already set by the board
and be from two and from recommending approval of an addendum to Lagoon acres. So going about that >> they would go out there by avenue into the subdivision. Okay. Pick up the >> I see a vehicle on the side of the road. So probably that >> par and they can only go the bus can only go to the gate, right? >> I believe it can go in the gate with the code injuries. Um it's there is a turnaround area in there and so I asked them to give us the amount of miles to keep it illegal. uh we have what's called safe school walk zones in the state and so many rural districts like I had anonymous and the same thing here is uh high school students are allowed to walk up to two miles
one way to the bus stop I believe it is and one mile for middle school kids and up to half a mile or don't quote me on that exactly if there's a safe walk zone and in an area like Guyana and Lbrook there are zero safe walk zones s what time does that post in the early. I don't know. So, is it have to be earlier or is my question I guess? >> Uh, yes sir. They have to leave about 10 15 minutes earlier and uh they would notify the parents if there's any adjustments on pickup time. We're also trying to divide up uh which bus going east kind of even out the number of kids on each bus because one of them's getting closer to being over but they both go the same direction.
or it does not change the uh number of miles. So I'm recommending approval of the addendum. I have a motion. >> I have a motion to approve. >> Motion a second. >> Second by second. I have from voting. Yeah. All in favor say car. Thank you. >> Going on adjusting journal entries with letter number 217 through number 262. Miss >> Yes, we're presenting these journal entries. Uh there's four of them uh for your approval. >> I motion to approve. >> Motion by second. Second by M. All in favor I. >> Motion carries. Moving on to budget journal entries number six number 23. >> Yes, >> I recommend approve it. >> Motion by Mr. Krishna for everything. [laughter] >> Motion by Missy. >> I'll second. >> Second by Miss. Motion carries. Moving on. Discussion and approval
of bars number 056 to 0024. >> Motion by Mr. Robert second by Miss Sandy. All in favor? >> Motion carries. Moving on to executive session. We have session. Uh we do have some things we need to discuss in executive session or personnel of personally identifiable information and the potential pending litigation. We spend time. >> All right. Executive session notice by given so that he mountain public school boards and educational will meet an executive session for student to section 10-15-182 of the New Mexico meetings active personnel matters discuss personnel personally identify information and potential pending litigation. Miss >> yes >> Mr. Randy yes >> Mr. Robert. >> Yes. >> Miss Lucy. Yes. Yes. >> The vote going to accept position as >> well. There you go. Okay. How old is this one? >> All right. Ready?
>> Okay. The board is back in position. Sandy could >> executive session notice is hereby given so that he mountain public school board of education has reconvened from executive session pursuant to section 10-15-1H2 of New Mexico open meetings act limited personnel matters no action was taken vote Miss Antonet >> yes >> Mr. Randy >> yes >> Mr. Robert, >> yes. >> Miss Lucy, yes. And Miss Sandy, yes. >> Okay. The time is 8:40 and the announcements next regular board meeting will be December 9th after that and that motion for motion by Mr. Robert, second byent. All in favor? be six months present.
