for being here. It's 6 p.m. So, we're going to call the meeting to order and stand for the pledges. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all of If there are no changes to the agenda, I will entertain our motions for approval of the agenda for April 20th, 2026. I'll make a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Motion by Mrs. Cole, seconded by Mr. P. All in favor? I. Any opposed? That motion carries. We'll move on to three. Approval of the minutes for the regular meeting of March 16th, 2026. I'll make a motion to approve the regular meeting of March 16th, 2026. Motion by Mrs. Esco. Do I have a second?

>> I'll second. >> Seconded by Mrs. Cole. All in favor? >> I. Any opposed? That motion carries. We will move on to item number four, action items, discussion and acceptance of 2024 25. >> So all right. I guess I'll just stand here. So good evening board or president superintendent here to talk about the results of the annual audit. And I see everybody's got their financial statements. It's 93 pages long. Um, so I think we're gonna dive into most of the numbers tonight. >> One through 98 through 98. No, >> was it 98? >> Yeah. Okay, >> just go through all. We don't have enough time, right? >> Sure, why not? Um, no, I just want to hit a few few of the high points, talk about the audit process, uh, the audit process. The audit

went quite well this year. Um, and there was a couple of of different items to talk about, but I'll I'll just kind of go through a few of our discussion points. Um, in here is also at the very beginning is is a letter our letter to governance at the conclusion of the audit. Um, those are just some standard uh items that we talked about here. I would say there's there's nothing unusual, but you should read it. Um, this the state audit rule requires that after the audit report is released um that uh the auditor meet with governance and just go through the the results of the audit. Uh the our report um was actually extended this year uh to to January 20th and that's because uh the federal guidance for those entities that had to

have federal audits also which you guys did because you met the threshold. Um it got pushed out this year because the guidance came in late. It didn't come in until after um after the deadline actually came in after Thanksgiving. So the state auditor um pushed all the reports back for all the different entities that had federal awards audits. So that's why this is a little bit late uh a little bit later than normal but um of course it got released um not too long ago and so here we are to just go through the results of the audit. Uh there's a couple of reports in here. There's actually three separate reports in here. Uh there's the audit opinion uh which we issue an unmodified or clean opinion on the financial statements. A couple of other

takeaways within that report. Uh there's um responsibilities for the the management has responsibilities the audit and those responsibilities are to to design an effective internal control structure uh and and take responsibility for compliance and take responsibility for the financial statements themselves. Uh we as the auditors drafted the financial statements from your records um for which you ultimately take responsibility. There's a representation letter uh that's included at at towards the front um with that letter to governance. Um so so um you know management has taken responsibility for the financial statements and everything you see in the financial statements comes from your numbers. We just pretty up and put it in some nice looking schedules and such. So you know the question is first of all I think I would ask is why why are there so

many pages here for for for a smaller district? And that's because every district um has a number of funds. So here um you'll see pages and pages of of individual funds and there's funds that are up front. There's a couple major funds. There's um major funds here are the general fund. The general funds are always major funds. So it's always presented up front. and and then there's also a debt service fund be just because of the dollar amounts that are sitting in within that fund. It also becomes major. So that's up front and be behind the footnotes which um there's a lot of footnotes covers lots of pages. I'm not really going to delve into those but uh after the footnotes you'll find more uh funds that get presented balance sheet and income statement for

every fund. So, so really every funding source here has um a separate fund. So, you know, you might have title one and IB and you got capital projects funds. All those get individually presented in here. And then the state audit rule um requires some additional schedules that you'll find in here and towards the back schedule collateral schedule deposit accounts. Uh and then there's a a schedule of expenditures of federal awards in the back too. Um so I mentioned that that that first opinion where the where the the audit has responsibilities and then the auditor itself has responsibilities. Ultimately, at the end of the day, it's to issue an opinion on the financial statements. As I mentioned, it's unmodified or clean and that's based on our test work and we're required to design and perform an

audit such that we can conclude. So, some of the testing that we do for example is uh we confirm balances. So, we'll actually send like the cash accounts, we'll send confirmations off um that that are signed first by the district authorizing the confirmation to be submitted and then the bank will go ahead and respond directly to us that yes, those are the true cash balances. Um we also scope things out. So, we pick certain things over, you know, a certain dollar size. We also uh test to get coverage. So, there there are a lot of different tests. And then control testing. Control testing is important because there's so many transactions. Even though you're a smaller district, there's still thousands and thousands of transactions. We obviously couldn't, you know, look at every single transaction. So, we

sample transactions. Uh so, we'll sample in the cash receiving transaction cycle, the cash dispersing transaction cycle, which are like your operating dispersements. Um, also we'll um test payroll um and employees have an equal chance to be selected. So we'll start samples of of payrolls tie it back to contracts hour if they're hourly to to the wage rates and a number of different compliance things and then also you know financial closer reporting. So we'll we'll test bank reconciliations which bank reconciliations I think are one of the most important things that the the business manager is involved with because ultimately the bank reconciliation if done correctly and properly and reviewed um that's really a foundational uh I would say process to ensure that your cash balances because cash makes up everything right and then um compliance wise

uh we're there's there's a state rule that requires us to test compliance. Um, and we do test a number of different compliance areas. Everything from procurement uh to travel in PDA. We look at the retirey healthc care payments. We look at um the education retirement board payments and and pull samples, do testing there. Um, school personnel act is a big area that we look at and and so we do the compliance testing too. And any violation in any of these areas results in an audit finding. There are two audit findings. Both of them pretty minor. We'll talk about those in just a minute. Um the second so I first opinion I just talked about. The second opinion is on uh uh government auditing standards and that we do perform within government audit standards. If there's

any findings, we'll refer to them in summary. And then um those findings of course are on the back. And then the third item that we test is uh the federal awards programs and that also gets a uh opinion on the federal programs. We issue an unmodified or clean opinion on the federal programs. We'll talk just briefly about that. Um there's a there's like I said there's there's a lot of information in here. I don't I don't think there's anything terribly unusual this year, but you should go through it. If you have any questions on any of the detail information, you can talk to Marie. she'll as your business manager, she'll um be able to, you know, help uh help you understand if there's any questions that you might have. Um and then I I would

say let's just go ahead and open the financial statements up to we'll go towards the back. And I would just point you to page 89. That's the uh this is just a a summary of the the results of the audit. And if I only had 30 seconds to talk about the audit, I would just go to this one page. And this summarizes the results of the audit. Um you'll see that there were no um there's an unmodified opinion on the financial statements. As I said, there's a clean opinion. Uh and then there were no material weaknesses in the internal control cycle. There's no significant deficiencies. There's no non-compliance material to the financial statements. Uh the federal awards um that also has a a clean opinion. There's no material weaknesses, no significant deficiencies. Um and um

no audit findings. You can see there are a couple of programs that we did look at and make sure that we got coverage. Couple the larger program and a couple real small programs got us got us to the coverage. Um and the um dollar threshold used was 750,000 for if you were less than 750, you would not even have a federal awards audit. this threshold increased to for fiscal year 26 to a million dollars. Um, but when I looked at your your federal awards, I think you'll probably be over a million dollars this this year. So, you'll I think we'll again have a federal uh awards audit and then um I'll go to page 90. There's a a couple of audit findings and these audit findings are actually what I would call lower level audit

findings. uh it under the state audit rule um there's a threshold these lower level findings get presented in other states they would not be in your financial statements they would be in a separate document but the state honor rule requires virtually any sort of um you know deficiency best practice whatever gets reported um and you can see that the the finding on the budget which is a repeated finding from 23 so 23 24 and 25 has each of the three years has have a budget finding. You can see that um athletics had a budget finding in the instruction area that was over budget and and uh that that becomes an audit finding. And then the next one is a this is a pretty minor one. Again, looking at dispersements, we go to one dispersement. Had

the purchase order created after the vendor was awarded the contract or the they vendor invoice was created. So that's kind of backwards in order. uh you start with the purchase requisition, then you create a purchase order, and then then you order the good or service, and then you receive the good or service, and then you get an invoice. So, uh that one was a little bit backwards as far as um the process goes. It's just something to be mindful of that you don't place an order until you have a purchase order in place. Oh, there's actually three findings. Sorry, there's an IT control finding also. Um, so the the the business manager has a little bit too too much access and conflicting duties and um others also have access to the accounting system that probably

shouldn't have access. I think management did agree that they're going to evaluate that and and look at the at the access and perhaps there's compensating controls too. So, um something to something to look at this this year, make sure that you've got that resolved. And I'm happy to dive into the numbers here. There's a lot of numbers um in here. There's a there's a a full acral set of financial statements at the very front. The very front is a has a balance sheet and an income statement for a full acral. So districts are actually on a cash basis. Everything happens on a cash basis in the individual funds and budgets are on a cash basis and then for the audit it's converted to what we call modified acrruel. So in here in all the individual

funds there'll be modified acrruel which you which means that we pick up receivables and payables basically and then the full acrruel statements pick up everything. They pick up you know the the um capital assets. They pick up the debt. They pick up compensated absences that are paid you know maybe later on after um the normal you know into the next year. the estimate in uncompensated absences. Um, so there's a few things that are full approval that are also included in this the front. So I think my takeaway would be that you're on a cash basis throughout the year and then the audit you go to this modified acrruel picking up the payables and receivables for the individual funds and then up front the very front statements that has everything in the full acral statements. Um,

and and those are only done once a year for purposes of the audit. So that is consistent also with with what the general accepted accounting practices required for presentation. >> I was admiring the uh bump rock. I guess you're going to talk about that. You saw one of the groups that I used to listen to the clash. >> Yeah. >> Rock the cash was my favorite one that they had like 1982. >> So guess you're talking about that. taking back a few years. >> Any questions? >> You have any is as you're delv into this, if you have any questions, reach out to me. >> It's riveting. >> It's good reading at night. >> Go to sleep. has been resolved. >> And and for everybody that's that's here, if you want to look at a

copy of the financial statements, you can go on the state IRS website and just type in Lordsburg Municipal Schools. They have a little box to type that in and you can look at all their all the financial statements from the last 20 years. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. >> Just a motion to accept. >> I will entertain a motion to accept the 2024 2025 audit. I'll make a motion to accept the 2024 2025 contest presented to us and note of the areas that need to be worked on. Motion by Mrs. Cole. Do I have a second? >> I second. >> Seconded by Mr. All in favor? >> I. >> Any oppose? That motion carries. We will move on to five board of education issues. So, just reminder, we have a law conference coming

up um June 4th through 6 in Albuquerque. Um the hotel is sold at not sold out. They're they're extremely high rates like $400 $500. this stuff conference to talk to Joe about this. >> Yeah, the conference would like they didn't have. So anyway, we have hotels but it's in the downtown. So I'll send an email just to >> see who's going so we get registered adjustment. Okay. And then the leadership retreat is for the school boards is July 19th or >> 16th through the 18th. And then the annual convention is next December, December 3rd through the 5th. And then we have a board member is getting a couple of awards from New Mexico School Boards Association. So for Miss Esco Yeah, but she's getting award for exemplary award for um the school boards association and

then an outstanding leadership award both from New Mexico School Boards Association. >> Good job. Okay, we'll move on to P or number six, reports, administrative report. >> So, any questions for Ryan on operations? One thing to note on there, the broadband um from the state will have a ribbon cutting ceremony probably in front of the high school on May 13th. Um if y'all want to be there for that for the fruit bin they're giving to the >> students. TWWN. >> Yeah, but it's actually the state broadband. TWWN is a company, but it's state broadband office that is actually in charge of it. We don't have a time yet, but we do have a date May 13th and there'll be some I know people from the state uh how we may be here. We don't know.

But any questions for Ryan? >> No, I'm just glad to see the that the different grants are being worked on that now we have more people looking into the water If we're going to get these things, if our doors are still working. >> Yeah, maybe. >> Still working, baby. >> Yeah. >> As of today, they're working. >> Yeah. >> And the the extra security, that's >> And then on the building reports, we're going to kind of go in reverse order. Um, so we'll start with the high school. >> We have questions. >> I'm sorry. >> No, you're fine. >> I think Susie didn't have questions. So, um, on the city of Lordsburg that has granted us the city fields, I know there's been issues that been brought to the softball team's attention. It says here

that um, the storage, the batting nets, well, I think there's an issue with the storage. He the mayor has said that it's going to be a liability to put a what is it called? >> Conic. A conic box beyond me. I don't know if it's gonna tip if we have a tornado. Maybe that's what he's talking about, but a conic box. Somebody please let me know how it how it will be a liability from the other things on city property right now. It's beyond me. Um, another thing about the truck field, I that's going to be a lot of money again. >> I just feel like we're like ahead of the game and then we're back down >> and then there's no other way we can go out for bonds other than going through the

CES, right? people like is it going to be cheaper for us to go out and do our own bidding than going to >> we can do but the CES normally comes in at the same or under >> as what the RFP because we can always go out for RP >> but when they do CES they agree to a reduced price and stuff like that already but we can >> is reduced price like with CS no matter what like >> it is I don't know what percentage it is but it's supposed to be reduced off their normal rates That's part of the agreement. >> I know that will be a liability for sure to be fixed on because a lot of people use that track >> being that Animus uses it for their events with their

BM that they could bring in some money to help. >> It's possible they could I mean because they did they tried to do even an SB9 and it failed. So, you know, I don't know. Funding was tied everywhere. So, I don't know if they could. I mean, we um well, I know we could look into it and see what kind of percentage I was telling that it's I don't know how often they use it, >> but they don't >> track. >> Yeah, just the >> just the district track. Yeah, just a couple of times a year. >> I think it's I think we hosted track the district track. >> Yeah. >> Last year. So, they used it three times last year. >> Mhm. We did. But I'm just afraid that our public even uses it

>> and there's like no waiver like we can't be out there waiting for runners or walkers like this or you know. >> Yeah. >> What that did? >> Yeah. And I think we're looking to can't they just repair >> sections? They can repair and resurface it but it's only a temporary >> 5 years you'd have to do it again. And that's the $360,000 rate. >> Yeah. But with with that in five years will be another cycle for bonds. >> Yeah. >> Maybe this is something that we could bring up um I mentioned tomorrow um what I've been in contact with doing with gay boscus people. >> Yeah. >> If that's possible. Um, so I took the initiative to ask um, Gay Plus's people to help us out with the softball field because we're going to

come into an issue with the title N with the baseball and softball. It's been happening. Um, you know, our program for the softball team has been here for 20ome years, meaning we were like the first people >> almost 20. >> Yeah. To start the the first program the softball and there has not been anything. Two years ago, we tried to bring it up with the city uh the council and two of those council men said no. Even brought up our girls to go in front of the city council board and the mayor. We were both rejected a couple times. So I when we went in January, we asked Gabe Ramos, Senator Gabe Ramos, too. This is what's going on. But he did grant it $800,000 thinking we had anou in place with the city of

Lordsburg. He thought the short park slash school like we have the already in place. Told him called him cried about it and said can we reverse this word and give it to the schools and he said it's too late. Supposedly he had a conversation with the mayor never heard back from him on that conversation. So, I went the route of asking Gabe Bosquez and his people. Tomorrow, we'll have a meeting at 11 if the board wants to join. Um, I know it's going to be a city councilman, uh, the manager of the county because we cannot receive funding directly from him. We would have to use another source because they don't give money just to the schools just like that. >> Yes. another government entity to manage our money. So, that is in the works.

I'm hoping they'll listen to me and we'll see what the meeting will bring tomorrow. But if these other issues are coming about, we could present them be like, give us some more resources, give us some more grants. and Ryan's been all over that because I've been pouring all the grants I received from the gay buses people. Um, but if there's anything else that the school might need, we could. It doesn't hurt to ask. All they say is no and we'll try it again. At least you try. >> So, that is in the works on my end because we are going to run into that title N issue with our girls and we're going to probably be sued. So, and and unfortunately, the title line is going to fall back on us regardless of what the

city does or what. >> So, then we need to look at using bond monies to build a new softball field >> because we can't rely on otheries, >> even if it's like the cheapest way. I know our field takes over $700,000 for that turf to be returned. >> Yeah. >> And it's a lot of money. Even if we do saw in the outfield and use bread dirt, that's even better than having nothing at all for our girls. >> Mhm. >> On the old baseball on the old baseball field. >> And I've took a picture, sent it to them. We have this land. It's ready. We need to like work on it. >> But that being said, I hope tomorrow will go well and see what we have in store. Will you be meeting? This will

be at the sheriff's office tomorrow at 11. >> Ryan, you have a great days on with the city, don't you? >> Was that something talked about with the like with the conic box? >> That was the >> Well, not but the contract that we signed saying like, >> hey, this is going to be on here, blah, blah, blah. >> No, they're just permission. It's like our forms that we've used for facilities use. You know, it wasn't like this is, you know, it just they've given us permission to use their field >> and that's it. I don't understand why we have to ask permission. It's a public park. >> Well, the the baseball fields and stuff like that just like when people want to use ours like >> the people that donated that land was intended

for the kids use and for public use. It wasn't intended for the city to >> hold it hostage. >> But it is >> well, you know, >> it's unfortunately we're like, you know, it feels like we're always back at square one with the city. >> Yeah. >> I know we have new councilmen and they reached out and said like, you know, let us know, let us know. But I think it's our mayor that's pushing these issues and not letting us use the facility, period. Like I don't get why he wasn't he was part of that meeting last year with because he was a councilman and he was denied access from that beginning. So it's we're not benefiting it. Our kids are benefiting it. And that $800,000 I I went to the city and I told

them here's the funding. use it for our kids. But with the access of us softball girls using it, but it just it's very upsetting that taxpayers money are going just to certain things and and it's affecting our kids more than anything. >> Yeah. And those fields sit there vacant >> without even being used. So that's what I'm doing. So, if you know if we have any other funding, Angel's been really good on finding resources and I know he's up for the COP grant. It's due tomorrow, right? >> No, it's already due. >> We're just barely. >> Oh, we're already starting. Oh, okay. So, like we have all these other grants hopefully get awarded like our security I think it's topnotch actually like we've been it's been approved so much. while the HVAC, you know, our

schools are cooling, right? Everybody's using jackets and clothes, but I don't know. I just it feels like we're like ahead and then, you know, we have another little boo boo like the track that needs to be fixed. >> We are >> and our funding keeps getting shorter and >> we are going to order the conics and just store that behind the high school. >> Yeah, but that was like my rent. Sorry, guys. That's all right. Brian, >> since uh your lison and your relationship with the city, can can you follow up and see where we're at with all these liabilities and maybe collectively a lot more involvement can take place? >> Yeah, sure. >> That way we can get this tinker. Otherwise, we won't know unless we have it in front of us. Correct. >>

Yeah. Right. But I'm also glad to see that the funding for the cafeteria at DTMS where she >> she's not up there. >> Oh, there she is. So that that for me is I mean the lady could see that security she was talking about for schools. I have a question. So I see so for a resource officer there's that if awarded 500 grand has it been awarded before >> I was told it was yes >> I asked that because that's what I was told >> and I'm curious to see if it has been awarded or we at with previous >> that that's the question that I'm >> Mr. Salazar or I guess two Salazar I'm not sure who's who did come visit us two weeks ago did explain that but since it's at the end

of the fiscal year they're going to apply for >> we were never told that that grant was awarded because we don't even see a resource officer in place in our schools you know like false advertisement >> they had a separate brand >> right the thing that we don't know other than it was Yeah. >> Right. Unknown if >> so again the city didn't report that they received we could even implement the >> right that we don't know that's why it was my understanding your understanding that it was there was a grant there before for resource officers. Obviously, >> I think that for me is priorities for your resource for anything that has to do with school schools with the teachers, you know, the building, the facilities, cafeterias, anything that for me, I'm not having to

see this yet. Appreciate all you do. >> Do you write a letter of support for >> when they ask us? But I I don't I didn't last person on the track,000. >> That's the the field the track warranty. What was it to begin with? >> I think it's a oneyear warranty on the resurface. That's what previously when it was first installed, what was the total manufacturer warranty on that? >> Probably a five year. >> Are we beyond that? >> Way beyond. >> I did have one question about transportation. >> Sure. Um, I just wanted to make sure with gas prices increasing so much that we have enough in there for fuel. >> We're almost done with the year. >> Yeah, I know. >> There's been talk at the state level about >> allocations for increased

fuel. >> Prices, but we don't know. It's at their discretion. >> Oh, okay. Um, if we have transportation money left, which I don't think we do because it's expended with our contract or we could possibly offer something to our contractor, but as far as our gas goes should be okay. >> Okay. Since we're on the transportation, are they going to do something to make sure these buses are working better for next year? Because they had a lot of down. It's the emissions issues and it's just one thing after another. >> And are they responsible for purchasing their own >> fleet? >> Yeah, they >> And is there something that we have in our contract with them that will hold them to purchasing better buses? >> They have to last 12 years. So the state funds

them for 12 years, but they they have to keep those buses for 12 years. And unfortunately, it's it's usually a sensor that goes out in the missions. >> That's the part they have to order. We were hoping that they would ease down on the regulations and pull off those commission systems on the buses because our older buses have problems. I have one more question. I'm going to go back to the water. I wasn't here in the last meeting. I apologize. But um last testing, do we have a result? >> We have Yes. Um all our water and drinking and our cooking locations are good. And that's what we're concentrating on. And the state is coming back down on the 27th, which is next Monday. And they're going to test all facilities. We only have data

from the high school from the last three years. So we're we're going to work with the environment department with their get lead out of New Mexico program and if they detect lead at places that it shouldn't be they'll help us resolve that either tell us the change of actual fixture or install filtering or any of those. >> So is it safe to say that the source is within the city and not the schools? >> No, just asking. So that after talking with the environment department, they say the city's light is so big, it should not contain lead in it. They said it's probably coming from the fixtures because anything manufactured prior to 2014 can contain 8% lead. So that's an issue. But our drinking sources are okay. Our water fountains, our kids are 50, our

cooking sources. So those are the main places that we're concentrating on for testing. And so far all are good. Thank you. >> Any other questions? No. >> Okay. >> So, we'll start with the high school. >> All righty. We're good afternoon everybody. Thanks for having um we're going to start with our national history day. brought some of their regional winners that competed at state this past week. And u I'll talk for a minute. >> Hello. Um I'm the National History Day sponsor. National History Day is a huge projectbased research project. Students have a choice of, you know, between five different projects they can do. Uh tonight Isaac Strub did the exhibit board, you know, a huge research project. They put together the board. Uh Mr. Baka's class was very, very, very generous and they actually

created the wooden frames. So, we can use these every year. So, we'll just recycle everything. They just need to, you know, do the poster board and the stuff that goes on it. Um and then I have a performance group who also performed. Um they did at regionals and then they went to state. We didn't qualify for nationals, but they did a great job. So, we'll have Isaac's group talk first if you guys want to get up and just tell a little bit about your project. >> Don't be shy, guys. You're not shy. Come on. Take it closer. You don't bite. Um, tell us your names. >> My name's Amaya. >> My name is Elisa. >> My name's Isaac. >> And this is our um project about punk rock. We did it because um punk rock

mostly like they that that was their way of expressing themselves in a type of way because they could be theirelves in any kind of way and being crazy and just making music that they want to make. >> So the theme was revolution reaction reform and their whole theme is that you know punk rock revolutionized music. Well, I did because of um the the way it's like the beats, the loud it was a lot more different than how we have now. Like I'm pretty I'm pretty sure what he said about something about like it inspired other bands to go off. >> Did y'all find if you like the music or not? >> I don't care for it. And you guys want first place in in silver, right? Is that why you guys won? Third place. Okay.

So, like one of three. You guys go to Albuquerque. Is that why? >> Yeah. >> Did you have to sing? >> No. >> And how did you guys do in Albuquerque? >> Um, we did okay. There was one answer we did. >> Oh, you guys missed it by one answer. >> Yeah. A >> was there one group that you preferred over the others? >> You probably listen to this one, right, Isaac? Did you listen to all their >> No, the one I really listen to is pretty much green. >> Green. Oh, yeah. >> But yes, they spent like three weeks researching, just getting a lot of different primary, secondary sources, and just compiled it all together in this project. Thank you guys. >> Thank you. >> Hi, my name is Jason. >> My name's Olivia.

My name's Alra. >> For our project, we did on the reign of terror or the French Revolution for National History Day. And in regionals, we place first for a performance, but we had placed in state. >> Yeah. >> Do you guys get nervous? >> Yeah. >> We had to. >> Yeah. >> So, are you guys going to perform it for us? >> Um, No, >> I was like the fight scene. >> Okay, guess not. They added the fight scene which was great. >> Congratulations. Good job. Hopefully next year you guys can make it >> further. >> But yeah, they had to do the research again, you know, primary, secondary sources, and then they decided to do a performance. So, they wrote their own script, made sure it was historically accurate. Um, I do want to

put in a little plug and say thank you guys. Um Ryan and Dr. Lucas, thank you for finding us money, you know, to go to this to order costumes, to order materials and supplies for this. I think it's a very worthy worthy way of learning and doing a a researchbased project. So, thank you guys for that. >> Appreciate you doing a great job with that program. >> Thank you. And maybe for your next year research price, I know nonprofits probably will benefit for kids to go >> and they'll do fundraising, too. >> Yes. So we just >> just keep that in mind. >> And next time can I please perform? >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> And Mrs. Cole isn't going to mention it, but she got the history day. >> Oh,

she did get it. >> She got a National History Day teacher of the year last year. Congratulations. >> We did discuss it or it was on a report, right? >> I think so. >> Congrats. >> So, yeah, I love that. I love it mix history and art is awesome. It's really cool. >> All right. Anyways, back to business. Um, just a few basic things we've been doing lately this last month. Um, we successfully took the SAT and MSA test. That's a science test. At the high school, we had juniors take that test. All of them took it. We're done with that. Luckily, the testing already mentioned the National History Day stuff. Um, um, Mrs. Culver's also going to take a drama group for drama class to NMSU to see uh, Into the Woods by Steven

Son, which it's pretty fun play. They're doing that next this Thursday. Um, Mr. Baka taken a group of students to a welding competition at Eastern Arizona University. So, he chose I think it's nine of his best students are going to Eastern and they're going to compete. They did it last year and had a lot of fun and yeah, it's just great to get our kids an opportunity to have a competition in something that's a little different, >> of course. >> So, they'll be doing that this Thursday. Um, prom is this th is this next Friday. So, that'll be exciting. One other thing I want to mention you guys, we've uh talked we're going to order these cases for our going to pass these around. These are uh phone cases that we're going to try to

get, you know, kids off their phones in the class and having that be a distraction problem, bullying and the whole, you know, the whole mess of all that stuff. So, yeah, it's gotten crazy. So, we've gotten these these phone cases. >> I don't want to open, >> right? >> You can't open a key. But there's a special magnet like key thing. >> So there's a special >> you have to stick it in there and open it. Mr. Buck actually took this case for a few days and I'm like, "What is he doing with that thing?" And he said he tried every magnet he could find, try to open it and couldn't open it. >> So they seem to work pretty well. I dropped it a couple times to see if he could break the hinges.

I was a little worried, but they seem to be pretty durable. They're actually um guaranteed for three years with a threeyear warranty, which is pretty awesome. And u we're gonna we're going to implement this next year where every kid will get one of these. They'll have their own and when they get to school they'll put it in here and they'll be able to unlock their case at the end of school to enforce compliance with the state balls also. >> So will they be as effective as the cost? >> I I think so. I mean it it's a constant like especially the LA ever since co it's just I mean even if you're good about enforcing cell phones it's just a pain and they're going to find ways to do it anyway even if you you

know aren't the best at enforcing it. So, we think Yeah, we think it's a And we were able to use um what kind of fun it >> Yeah, the uh >> SP SP9. >> Where will you store those? >> Well, they'll they'll keep it all year. They'll be assigned it all year, >> but they'll keep Yeah, they keep it in their pocket in their backpack or whatever. Yeah. >> Have to go by the people have keys, right? >> Yeah. Yeah, we'll probably I we're trying to figure it out. We probably have a couple near the office so when school gets out like all the kids can line up and unopen it. >> Still that >> we'll find a way to find one online. >> I don't know. >> I just want to >> I don't

know what you've been doing but I just want to thank you. Mhm. >> Our truency numbers at that high school since you took over >> has been extremely low. >> We just we've been enforcing that. They appreciate it. No problem. We've been just buckling down and making sorry making sure kids are there and making them do seat time if they're missing and all those things. So >> it's starting to work a little bit. Yeah. >> Yeah. when I saw those numbers like >> very happy to see this. >> Yes. >> Yeah. That's it. Thank you guys. >> On your on your on your prom just >> will you let your kids know there is an afterm? >> Yeah, they all know about >> there's lots of prizes. >> I think after prom. Thank you for

everything you've been doing. >> Appreciate it. >> Okay. >> He's looking over there like >> um basically our monthly focus is just making our last weeks count. Uh we're really trying really hard to get ready for next year so we can just jump start as soon as we can. And uh basically we are done testing as well. And I just want to highlight our kiddos that we brought because they did amazing work with the yearbook under the direction of Miss Burell and Mr. Orbula. And so I'll let them take it away. >> Yeah. >> You ready? >> You're ready. Ready or not? Um, I'll pass out some of their This is a small one and this is um their book and then pass it and have a checklist and they can put on your screen

so you can do whatever you need. >> Ji, you're not nervous. Not JC, >> introduce yourself. >> Are you always ready for >> And last year they did test for um gifted and the two fourth graders, Angel and JC, qualified. So this is part of their project. They started with after school, but they continued on their own. and summer was staying after school anyway, so she just kind of got she's going to be a junior. >> She's ready to take over next year. >> Good job. >> Amazing. >> Good job, Angel. >> Angel, you're not shy either. >> I know you. >> And a shout out to his dad who brought him all the way from El Paso just to be here. >> Oh, thank you. and they made their so the group project. >>

I'm representing with JC Samuel my daughter and our review editor. We would like to share how we worked on and designed the book. We started in the after school program with a lot of other students and two sponsors and this is just a us three that are working on the yearbook as a class project since this part of the program ended. We started by learning how to use a camera about information and talking about pictures. Then we learned how to use the yearbook website. Then we had all of the fourth graders vote for the backgrounds and told them about the cover competition. We had to create a yearbook matter which is where we had to decide on the pages when the yearbook adder ordered. The yearbook ladder helped us keep track of what was finished

and what was not done yet. When we started working on the yearbook, we took photos of everyone in the school. We had to make sure that the pictures we took were of people's faces. At first, we did not pay attention. So, we had a lots of photos of people's past. We had to make we had to take some pictures again. Then, we downloaded the pictures and added them to their class pages. We had to make appointments with teachers to go into their classrooms or meet them on the playground to take the candid photos. Then we downloaded these photos into the candid section of the year website. We also had a cross reference the portrait pages with the school master list if someone was missing and we could take notes. so we could take a picture

of them. Some of us double checked each page for any errors and I mean pictures that were not of people's faces or blurry. We also double checked checked the names and pictures with the classes. Then we double checked with the office. Finally, we were ready to submit the yearbook. Working on the yearbook has been a really fun experience. Thank you for letting us share our presentation with you and for your time. We hope you have enjoyed it. Thank you. >> Good job. >> Great work. That took a lot of time and dedication to >> And did you guys do this after school or or when are your periods? >> Started after school then was in school. So they would make appointments with teachers. They had to talk to when you started moving because now we're

moving as classrooms with home room teachers have to make appointments with the teachers. They have to let their teacher know and they have to make up the work. So I have to verify that. So it took a lot. It took a lot of time and it doesn't bring a lot of money but >> it's a good experience though. >> And they could probably make the junior high book by themselves by >> Good job. >> But dedication page he doesn't know. They were really good about trying to hide it from him. So >> he's quiet. >> It's for Mr. Phil because he's ret. So they've been sneaking around taking pictures of organization and time and double checking to make sure that you've got everything. >> Very impressive. Maybe you can do like >> what is it

called? A newspaper. >> Yes. >> Start doing a newspaper like just your school >> telling us what's going on. The two are moving on. >> Yeah. Come and report to us. Summer. >> Yes. Thank you guys. She's like, "Do we have that? Everyone's talking quietly reply. Anything else? because >> any other questions for >> good evening. Um so let's see we first of all I want to thank um parents and students from DTMS because during the testing week um I think the most that we had absent on any one day were like eight students and like four of those were in um baseball so they were gone all day long for it. So, but we had really good attendance and you know and that's that's really goes back to the parents. Um, so I want

to thank them. I think as of right now we only have two students that still need to make up test and that's because they were gone like on the Wednesday, Thursday or last week. And so so anyway, so it was it was uh testing overall went really well um this year. Um, and also thanks thank you to coaches and and coach Hooper because it takes a lot when we when we're looking at at middle school. Every grade is testing. At the high school, it's >> just juniors. >> It's just juniors at it's at RBT is third and fourth grade. But with us, our whole school shuts down. You can actually hear like a pin drop in there because it's so quiet. And um when we try and schedule it, it's we look at the sports

schedule to make sure that there's not so many students absent because what we have learned in the past is that students who typically have to make up those tests, they rush through it instead of taking their time. And so again, thank you to all the coaches too for their patience and working with us. Um, we would like to kind of schedule it maybe like the second week in April every year so that and maybe give um, Coach Hooper and Mr. when you also heads up on it to try and not schedule as many uh games or meat stream that week just so that we can get it done because that's that's our requirement and if we didn't have if we didn't have the students there wouldn't be sports. So, and that's that's just the bottom

line with it. Um but again, thank you to everybody for for working with that. Um and then continue on with with sports. Um our track team has done pretty well for it being mostly sixth and seventh graders. Um we have a total I think of 20 maybe 21 students who and including some managers. Um we had some of our students who were just like a little frightened because it's something they had never done before. And so, but they're they're all doing well with it. And uh so we have one last track meet in Demi um this Wednesday. Um one date that I didn't include actually a couple of dates. May the 4th is transition day and that involves RBT and LHS. So RBT students, fourth graders will come up. I believe um prek will go

up to kindergarten so that they can kind of experience it. So just like a whole schoolwide thing and then our eighth graders will go over to the high school and complete their next step plans. Um May the 15th also I encourage you all and invite you to attend the the film showcase where um Mr. Chala will put on all the all of the the films that they made. Um it also is a type of fundraising for their program. And so uh we invite you to that. That will be at 6:00. Um and with that in our in at the film prize junior um we did get it was Evelyn Vieos our eighth grader who did win the best middle school comedy for um problematic. And so that was pretty exciting that that she was able

to to win that. And um and they do they they they do you know going in there and like observing and seeing you know it's it's um I was in there and Mr. Taro was showing just like different clips from different movies and they were looking for like where the lighting was at so that it could show different things and just amazing that they are able to say, "Oh, it was this kind of lighting and it was placed right here and they so they're really like running a lot with it." Um, and then finally for these last, you know, these last weeks that we have month, May is mostly testing. Just that's just the way that it works out with everything that we're required to do. Um, but we're also going to be making some

changes, implementing some new things to see how it goes at the end of the year. Um and we're working on that this week to start maybe implementing next week. And um also um we've sent out some or I sent out some surveys to the kids getting their input of what they would like concerning some different things. So, we're just going to try some things at the end of this year and and see how it how it goes and if it works, possibly continue it for uh next full year. But we'd like to just go ahead and and now that testing is over, go ahead and try something different. So, um any questions? I guess going back to the the testing. Um maybe just a little note maybe for next time for parents to understand the

testing if you're implementing like rules like don't check your kid out like because we can't hostage a kid not checking out >> from going home with their parent. But maybe next year understanding or making the parents understand hey you know this is the time that we're going to be tested. No one can leave. We asked no one could leave if you guys can book appointments. You know, there are several parents that say like, "Well, I had appointments and it felt like they're a hostage." Like my kids >> and I understand that, but those are like >> I'm just saying for like next year if these are your rules in place, can you please >> So those aren't my rules in place. Those are actually the state rules in place that everybody has to >> Yeah.

But I guess parents communication is a key point for our kids like the testing is >> crucial for our test you know for our state and where our school stands >> but you know if parents don't understand that you know >> and they felt like hey you know my my kid I couldn't check them out until like they were done but we had a doctor's appointment and I'm like oh okay well I don't know what to tell you >> like six months. >> Yeah. So, I don't know what to tell you because I don't know, >> you know, how it goes, you know, but you know, to us like >> people report us like little things like that. I'm like, oh, I don't know. >> Just a guideline of what the what the rules are

during the day, like if there's no water allowed in the testing areas or >> I know some of them get nervous and that's their security. >> Yeah. Yeah. And it's like we have like this whole list of stuff that we can't that normally it's not a problem but during testing because of the validity of the testing and it's like you know and and >> like I mean there are like certain things that happen so like we did have one student who got sick and threw up in the testing you know so we have to and so that becomes a test irreg irregularity. because she had to leave the room and um that's then it's reported and it has to be reported to the state. So there's all of these things that you know that >>

and what happens in that case like if that kid threw up in front of everybody and had been removed. >> so like you had to report to the state like what does the state do at that point? >> So they they and Mrs. Mrs. Stewart would be the one to who knows more exactly like what happens on it. Um because it's reported to the testing site coordinator then the coordinator testing site coordinator reports it to Mrs. Stewart and she's the one who has to file a report to the state >> and then you got to start all over. It wouldn't really No, it would just they would just like it still they'll get back to her and it'll be like you can go ahead and continue the test on them. But it's like little, you

know, things like that that in a normal environment it's just like completely different >> like I didn't know I didn't know I don't know if you guys you know so that's why like like communications is the key like you know I >> the state testing is very important I get it but I think just the communication just failed somehow and cuz I'm pretty sure that's all the test the >> the test similar. It's a lot shorter and less comprehensive than what the middle school has to do. >> What's your main source of communication? Because I know every year you get a packet, but what's your would you say is your main source? >> My main source, we usually use uh parents square. >> Parents Square and then everything is put on Facebook >> and that

is there for parents and every more clarification on the packet by I've seen this packet there. It's well put maybe some type of a letter head that actually you know refer to the states >> and what you you know maybe not you but the state requires you know this is what the state requirements this is what I'm going by >> this is you know it it is what it is you know >> are there rules and >> yeah because I didn't know honestly I didn't know if anybody else could look so kid in the testing area I'm sure it it threw everybody off to somebody. You guys take the kids out while they go clean it and then the test security and stuff. >> Yeah. No. Yeah. So, yeah. And it's like if there's a

a cell phone and it goes off during the thing, it can invalidate every test that's in the in the thing. There shouldn't be like any or smart watches or anything in there. So, we have to check everybody. There's a lot of like little things that don't >> So, are you going to do what Mr. Holly's going to do? Yes. Yes. Um, we went ahead and ordered the same things as Mr. Holly with the cell phones. >> So, what are you going to do with smart watches? >> Smartwatches. >> These are big enough that you can fit >> both of them >> that you can fit a smartwatch in these. >> And as long as I mean, >> we tell the kids to turn off their phones. I mean that's you know their phone should be

off but and so if as long as they don't have the for testing we just go ahead and collect the smart watches as well and kids are normally really good at at saying you know this time I had one who I got a teacher and said this student says he had or has a smartwatch and you know it wasn't he wasn't like trying to hide it or anything it's just I forgot to take it off and so Um, I mean students are really good about that because they they've been through testing so much by the time they get >> to middle school. >> Um, but yeah, we are getting those and and um most of the smart watches don't have cellular on them, a separate number. Not saying that none of them do, but most

of the kids don't have a separate number on their smartwatch. And will the kids be able to start accessing their lockers a little more frequently besides just in the morning? And >> so I mean honestly it's a place just to put their stuff because really what I'm holding right here is really what they have to carry. We don't have textbooks anymore. >> We don't. And um they have they do have a science uh consumable that's probably about like that thick uh like a workbook and their math book is probably about like that. But those usually stay in the classroom. Um but they carry their chrome Chromebook, maybe a composition book and their little bag of pencils or whatever else. Maybe a reading book. And this is basically what they carry. there's not a whole lot

that they need for individual classes. So, it's not like back in the day when we had a science and a math. So, they're not carrying a whole lot of stuff. So, and we're actually considering um very limited use of Chromebooks next year and going back to um more paper and pencil type of stuff. Um there's a lot of research that is coming out and I've been seeing like different different research studies um of how even cursive if when they you know when it used to be taught like in first well maybe second third grade whenever it was taught um how that really helps with reading because then they're seeing the word they're connect when they're learning to write and connecting it. Um that's in their mind it's forming a connection that that's a whole word

and that helps with reading um and spelling of course. Um there's been some studies where oh and I can't I can't think right now. One of them was like on one of them was by by Harvard and looking at their graduates. um who could not get jobs because they used the computer so much for everything that they didn't have any problem solving and critical thinking skills. And the ones who did get job, they just like bomb the interviews because they couldn't answer questions in an interview. Um and then in if they did get the job like a huge percentage ended up losing that job within 6 months because again when when faced with the reality of doing something that they couldn't Google or couldn't they didn't have those skills and um those are just like

two of the two of the studies that I've seen. So, we're actually looking at doing more paper and pencil stuff next year rather than doing so much on the Chromebooks. >> Mr. Holland, you had your hand. Did you have anything else? >> Oh, no. It was about the phone case or something else. I think I think it was answered, but I was questions. >> Thank you. Good job. >> Thank you. Here we go. >> Okay, we got Yeah, we got a busy week, guys, this week, y'all. We got games tomorrow. They're out tomorrow. Um uh and then we have our It's our double header. It's a big game for us. Um or softball. Baseball's here tomorrow. They got a single and a JB. Um no, no JB, just a single. Boys, boys baseball's done with

JV. Um and then we're gonna have uh Thursday we we have the Halago relays which Amnest is doing this year. Um but it's still here, you know, it's still Yeah. Everyone thinks it's still Borsburg. So I think everything's kind of be taken care of on that. Um Friday we have problem and then Saturday we're right back at um baseball and softball. And Thursday's a hard one. It's the only game that we have an overlap of attract me. Um I try to keep track separate from softball and baseball. But with prom, there was no way. I mean, it was that or have kids going on capan trying to get back in time for prom. Um, so that's kind of that's where we are. Um, we've had softball, we've had to cancel, a couple cancellations, which has

been a pain in the butt. Um, JB teams canceled on us and then one varsity team um, Hash canceled on us. um they they had messed up and didn't count their games and they had too many games. They had 26 game and that was their limit. And so kind of caught us off guard, let us know the day before. Um we thought we were just going to drive down there and then we found out why they had to cancel us cuz they actually had too many games. Um so that was hard on our on our girls softball. Um yeah, I don't know. I I think that's we're at the end. 18th is our awards and we ordered our awards today or I put I didn't order them. I put in for the quote today cuz

I don't want that guy getting on. >> Put that quote in. >> I'm going to put another um we did have we did have a miss a mis thing happen. I I can't go on without mentioning that. We played Tia here and uh we had a we just had a mistake and I you know I think as my wife told me everyone makes mistakes. We um we we had lost the keys to the lights when it switched it. Um coach the the coach wanted to switch the time to put varsity later so more people could come watch the varsity play cuz when we play at three it's hard because a lot of people off work until they're done and I understood that. Um but we had another coach had emergency. He left unfortunately he had

the key to the the lights. I don't have kid lights. I call watches are he don't have kid lights. The only ones that have kid lights is Palomin and uh uh Coach N. That's it. So I'm Coach N's gone. I'm calling him hoping he can get back. And what's sad is that we finally got a hold of someone. The coach's son brought the keys and he literally dropped up as the Umps were walking off the field. >> And I talked to I said, "Guys, he's right there." And we were on a roll, guys. We ran like six runs in in the sixth and it just it was tough. But I understand their coach I'll give them kudos. I would do the same thing. If I was to see a coach, I'd have been saying, "Oh,

no. Game over. The sunset. We're done." Now, because they take the win because they know they were willing. But hopefully our girls will pair that on over there. And uh I'm going to I'm going to make a prediction. I'm going to bet that will never happen again. I'm going I think you will. Yeah. You know, you that lesson learned right there. Um now on you brought up a few things. I wanted to mention I didn't want to get into conversations. Um, title N I I do pay attention a lot to title N a lot being the athletic director. Um, we we're okay with title N right now with way we do softball and baseball because they're both sharing the same field. They So, we're okay. But now that we are moving with our softball that

there would be a title issue without a storage when the boys have storage, you know, that kind of things. Those aren't major things cuz I've been guys I've been in five schools. I know how title N Yeah. And that would be a hit. It wouldn't be a big hit. It would they would say, "Well, you do have storage issues for your weight." Um, you just we just got to have equal equal access for for boys and girls on the sports. And you guys, I know Lucas planes title more than anyone, but um I uh I know we do keep track of what we do in Titan. We fill out our stuff every year on that. And so um yeah, you brought that stuff up. I just want to say, but there is and I agree

with you. I I heard about that money immediately and I'm like why aren't we using that for and I I feel your pain and I I'm I'm thank you. Thank you for doing everything you're doing. Seriously, >> it was like my heart >> and thank you. >> It's probably good for you to have your contacts with the city people, too. That's I I appreciate that. And I know you guys are working for our athletics and making that happen. And uh yeah, that's that's a great thing. Um I'm glad to see our girls over there now, guys. I I am. And it's just only these last two games, but next year it's probably a whole different thing. And that's why we have to have >> at least an MOU in place because >> with this administrator,

>> Mhm. >> he changes his mind day and night. >> Yeah. >> And to keep him accountable with thisou with the city council approving it, it'll hold people accountable >> with the contract. We need I I just you know Yeah. I guess I'll need to get into that a lot. But I agree with that because you know I'm glad that >> we all need to work together. I don't know why we're against each other. We're we're all here for kids. That's the bottom line. I mean they should be here future as we are. So but anyway, I'm glad they're using it right now. I am. I'm excited. It was nice today after school. I got to go watch I got to go see practice over there and try over it's like at the same time.

Wow. That was that was amazing. Um, okay. I would have handed you guys football and volleyball schedules. I haven't done but football. Nope. I had a phone call yesterday on football and I have not talked to Mr. Lucas. I might have another game for football to finish the full schedule and actually have 10 games and I'm really debating it because that it would be a it would be one of the games we meet. So, I don't know. I'll talk to about it. So, I'll give that to you if we decide on what we're going to do with that other game. Um, and volleyball. I'm still waiting to hear from two teams on volleyball. Uh, basketball schedules are almost done, too. I mean, I know that's a long time ahead, but that's how fast these It's

like all these ads. We get these new ads and man, they're wanting done a year ahead. I'm like, I'm good with that. So, >> contractwise, do you guys have a contract with these teams to make sure that because I don't want them to say, >> hey, like the hatch. >> Okay. I I would say you sign this, you forfeit because you were on our schedule. >> Okay. Um this is a good thing and I'm glad you brought that up. Um as an ad we have to go when we go to Christ, I got to learn all the law and stuff, right? So when I go to Albuquerque, I sit and that's where I sit the most in the law classes because I want to learn what's legal, what's not legal. When we have an email

confirmation, we have emails back and forth confirmation. That is actually a document right there. So it says that's how we do everything now. We don't send we usually send contracts out. We don't have to do that no more. Once we say hey I agree that let's play here here and then I always fire back at we do it on the phone. I'll do an email to confirm everything. Now the only one we could um the only one that kind of gave us hard time would have been Hatch because that's a varsity game. There is no there is no such thing on JD games. So we were playing um gaming was the JB JV game. So there were nothing we can do. And then we had that team out of El Paso that was going to

come. And I'm like, "Yeah." And then their private school, it was Easter week. It was that Thursday. And he called me and said, "Coach, I am so sorry, but I have literally two kids here in school, softball kids." And I'm like, "Oh, that's cancelled, too." So then you guys see the email to cancel that Thursday. Um, of course, that coach called back want to play this week and I was like, "No, because I I don't want to sit up aggressive. The game's going to have me cancel again." Uh we're just going to have to do different on scheduling that's all. And um it's hard not to play those teams than those teams though. It's hard not to play gaming. Hard not to play cogate silver those kinds. It's it's tough but we're doing it. Like

I'm doing it for girls basketball now. Working on coating you know cuz >> I don't think we should. >> No, we're not. I'm getting >> I was like I don't think we should >> you know and you know why. Yeah. Those are things situations that I think we just be better off not doing it. >> Yeah. >> But guys, any questions to ask? Anything else? because I haven't known him for a while and I'm sorry. Go ahead. >> The junior high track team, Dean Su, they're just getting started. Are we going to hold off on having the eighth graders come up to the high school so that we can establish that? >> Probably not. >> Just once once their season's over. >> Well, not if they're good though. I I think with eighth grade um

because >> we need them go to junior high too. >> Yeah. No, but we don't win state championships in junior high. we do at the high school and that's what they now you think about all our eighth graders we have right now >> that started in eighth grade or varsity players are varsity and eighth grade they're they if they can help the varsity team that's where they in track and actually every sport basketball too I mean you think about it yeah you have del started his eighth yeah our junior high basketball team yeah but the kid was a starter on the varsity for basketball too and Jeremy Roman thing, you know, when you have them kids that can compete at the varsity level at eighth grade >> and they can't wait till this junior high

season's on >> we're over now. We'll be over. So, how can they >> varsity we win championships at the end of >> Yeah. And then >> and then >> that always been like that. >> Okay. Next the last track meet is next week, >> but we're already going back into but we still have two grades. We still have six and seven and we have 20 kids. >> Man, we're not hurting. Now, if there were now, if it was a situation and I this I agree with >> this football >> this if there's no way we got four kids if we're gonna have to cut a program. So, for instance, if we have a basketball, girls basketball for instance, and we only have six kids or five kids, I'm not going to cut that. There's no

way. I'm going to have told I'll tell the coach, coach, you got to let them play otherwise we don't have a program down there. But if it doesn't if they could not have them, then yeah, we're going to let them play varsity. I'll move them out. So, but I don't know. I know you probably I don't know if you understand. I'll understand. I I feel I feel your love for >> I just don't want you know it's been 10 years since there's been >> Yeah, it's kind of cool to see them all. Did you >> I watched them today practice. It's kind of neat seeing all the little tiny. Do you see how small they are? >> And then I don't know. Elementary's got to be fun to teach. I don't know. So, and it's

like it's like a a flip thing on that because like our eighth grade girls would have probably won >> both seventh and eighth grade in basketball at the middle school tournament, they would both won had had those eighth graders not gone on to the high school. >> Yeah. Um, and both because then we actually were had to pull up some seventh graders to play with the eighth grade because there weren't enough eighth graders to play. And so it it also hurts at the middle school either way that you look at it. >> It does. It really hurts the program. >> Um, we did have two eighth graders in that went ahead and went out for track with the middle school team um rather than going with the high school. the other like yeah >> nine

eight or nine went to high school >> and they have a choice. >> No, they do have a choice. That's the thing, you know. It's not like we're making them stay here or there. They have a choice. >> Every parent has to sign them permission. They have to come sign the um NBAA to play. >> I was just hoping so that we could try and establish. >> I get it. But at that point, you know, the player has >> a choice to either move up or stay there. >> Well, then you have to think about the development of the kid. Are they going to develop more playing with practicing with the varsity >> or you know, playing? >> Well, and and you also have to think about as a parent and I think we see

it as the kids with the kids too. There's some that are mature enough to play with the high school and there's some that are not. >> I keep going. Yeah, that's happened all day. I remember his dad like obviously scared to have him play varsity as a eighth grader and he's playing college football right now. Just throw that out there. >> And these are great decision adm we're working hard. That's why our girls we are so So, you know, >> and we are Hey, right now we are grades are big right now. Obviously, we're getting into the semester. We're trying to make sure all our athletes pass all their classes, >> which they need. >> Oh, yes. >> I'm in support of this the field and I'm hoping collectively we can advance this and get

it going. I'm in support of that. But I have a question for you. >> Yes, sir. >> So, You say we we turn the tough teams that are above our class. >> Okay. >> If you may mention I'm hoping to hear. Yes. My back school. >> Go ahead. What about >> the question is which are the teams that are above the cuts >> and as you said right here playing tough teams. >> Well, probably bigger teams. No, >> not >> Oh, just you mean we're playing the that are lower our class. >> Yes. Well, We're 2A. Oh, we're 2A. We've been playing three, four, five. Four. What year are the schools? How messy? What school? >> Will Dem. >> Yes. >> No, that's it. Yeah, that's who we can. And then Hatch, Tierced, they're all

above our classification. >> Yeah, they are. And and our numbers, guys, if our numbers stay the way they are, I don't know what the future is. We're probably going to drop 18 in all sports, by the way. We're right now we're at 18 level for we right now. Um it's just we just started our two year two-year block though. So we're out of left for two years >> and that's based just for the record that's based on our numbers. >> It is based on Yeah. And I don't know >> the eighth grade group is pretty good size. >> 40 kids. Yeah. >> Yeah. The eighth grade group is pretty good size. Still jump. So any other questions? I did have something for you. >> Okay. Yes. >> Um, so I was made aware of interest

among students in the junior high and high school that are interested in esports. >> Yes. >> So I looked into it. >> Yes. >> Um, of course there's a lot that goes into that. Computer labs and equipment and stuff like that that there is funding for from what I saw online. But is that something that we could see if anybody's interested? >> Well, we have lots of interest in sports like we have interest in esports. We have, you know, we have interest in powerlifting. They just say championships fans have powerlifting. >> I would love to have powerlifting. Oh my god. Everyone kids that don't even play a sport. We have so much homeless kids don't play no sports. >> So they they it's like they didn't know they could lift. >> And that's it's interesting.

>> But yeah, there's lots of sports we can do, but we got to decide. We we have a 100 kids if and if we have kids that are just going to do that then >> now we're going to go back to her junior high point I guess let's not worry about basketball this year we cancel our basketball cuz man our numbers are low in basketball >> and we're hitting 10 kids >> say four of them say I'm I'm doing esports this year >> we're done or what if I do wrestling wrestling be bigger basketball will be done >> you know it's just we got to decide where we want to do it and and I understand. I mean, you know, and I do keep praying on pirate in some, but um but I understand too,

you know. Uh >> uh >> and the gaming is I looked at the dates. You sign up in January and then they have like state >> Yes. >> March, April, >> so that gets in the way of all the other >> didn't we we tried to get it going through the after school program. Mhm. >> Um the problem that we ran into with the after school program was that um you have to teach a curriculum with it and there wasn't a curriculum. I mean they were willing to fund it. >> Mhm. >> Um and but there wasn't a curriculum out there to incorporate different things and they were going to be working on it >> to to get something. Um, but we did and and there were I mean there are some kids that we

have some eighth graders right now who are interested in gaming and they don't play any sports. >> Mhm. >> You know, so I think I think adding the esports would would be good for those kids who don't play. I mean, we've also I've also been asked why don't we play soccer here, >> you know, because there's some of those kids who who also I mean, these eighth graders when they were in fifth grade, that's all they ever played was soccer out there on the field >> and it just comes down to our size again. >> It comes down to our size, guys. If you can say that all all like that, that's 100% true. You have some kids that um like she just said, don't play sport. They just want to do that. But it

ain't about that. It's what what about the other four or five that they decide they're going to pull. I'm not going to do that. That's too hard. I'm going to sit there and do that or are whatever. It doesn't matter. Any of them. If we start overlapping right now, we're struggling on numbers for athletics >> already. >> Yeah. I think football's probably the largest numbers we have and of course that's the hardest because of safety, right? Obviously the safety reasons. Um but that's it. And we're what sitting 26. I mean it's crazy. >> It's a community decision. What are you going to prioritize? >> Yeah. >> And that's your you guys school board, the community. >> Yeah. >> But on all that guys, boss, whatever you tell me, I'm doing they do li we'll make

it happen. I'm uh I I my opinion would be no on it. I I would I think there's other sports that would be bigger and power would be more. I think power would be huge here because I can't get kids out of the way, but Anyway, there's always golf. There's always there's golf, too. I mean, there's all kinds. >> Oh, yeah. Cross country. Is that another one? >> Anyway, and thank you for bringing up the track issue, too. Yeah, we see the same thing on the track. It needs it needs surfacing. Thank you guys. >> Any other questions for coach? See, I got to come more often so we can cut. >> I know. I'm sorry. Yeah, I was getting surgery on the last one. >> I know. >> Yeah. I'm sorry, guys. But >>

Treny reports high school 17 personal contacts, 17 letters. So, 34 total contacts for March. um at RBT personal contracts 4, DTMS 2, letters mailed, RBT 15, DTMS 12, grand total of personal and everything was 33 compact. So kind of down all around. Any questions on superintendent report? that strategic planning we should be getting when they said April. We had a date booked to start the initial day a week or two ago and I had to reschedule and I haven't they haven't responded with a new date yet. Um but as soon as we get that we'll get the first meeting and then we'll start with the process. >> I'm really excited for this. >> Yeah. >> Hopefully we'll see the new school year. >> We should. Yeah. Yeah. The plan is to have it done in,

you know, by the end of July. >> Cuz we never had one done, right? >> Right. No. No. Not to my knowledge. >> Since you've been here, have they done it? Oh, yeah. I don't I don't think it's ever >> I wonder why every school has it. >> Well, not every >> Not every school, but it's good. It makes us feel like we're responsible and doing >> right. It's It's well worth the effort. >> Make us stronger. >> Yeah. Any questions on that? >> What was it? 102? >> Well, so I don't have one yet, but it'll be we'll it'll start this month or beginning of May and then it'll run through July probably. Should have it for the August board meeting to approve. >> Thank you. Was there anything for public forum? >> No.

>> Okay, we'll move on to item eight, consent agenda, approval of accounts payable and payable liability transactions. >> I don't but I don't. Thank you. Sorry. Um, so Dr. Lucas called me and it it is a little bit confusing where it says reprint checklist, but it's not that all these checks were reprinted. It's just that the list was reprinted if that makes sense. >> So, um we have that and then um your expenditures comparisons, everything looks like it's on track for the year. Um our revenue report getting kind of getting to the end of the year kind of scary to think about, but there we are. Um, and then your cash balances by fund and your bars. I think that's is that >> that's the next one. But I stand for any questions on the

um pay accounts payable and payroll liability transactions. Any questions? Well, I will entertain a motion. Are you talking? >> No. >> Do do we go along? Do we do both of them together? >> Separate and then bars. >> Okay, perfect. >> I will entertain a motion for approval of accounts payable and payroll liability transactions. >> Second. >> How about you make the motion first? >> Yeah. Okay. How about you make the motion first? Motion a motion or you might make a motion to >> motion by Mr. B. Do I have a second? I'll second. Second by Mrs. Cole. All in favor? >> I. Any opposed? That motion carries. We'll move on to approval of budget adjustment requests. >> Okay. So in looking uh not in looking as in preparing these we have um the pupil

transportation um we had to return some funds that were left at the end of the year and that's our increase you know if there's anything left at the end of the year they get it happen the way it is. Um then there's a little bit of in the state match for your SB for your local >> SB9. Yeah, SP9 Opal. That's I think the one and then um title one a little bit little bit there in the final award. Um the operational is uh they increased the SEG final unit award um in at the beginning of March and that that's an increase in the SEG um town maintenance bar um the local revenue from the forest reserve. uh is there and we also have a maintenance bar in that um fund as well. And then

uh structured and early literacy is a maintenance bar as well. >> Any questions on any of the bars? >> No. If the board doesn't have any questions, I will entertain a motion for approval of a budget adjustment request. I will make a motion to accept the the bars as presented. Motion by Mrs. Cole. Do I have a second? >> I will second the motion. >> Seconded by Mr. All in favor? >> I. Any opposed? That motion carries. We will move on to item nine, discussion items, 2026 27 budget overview. >> Okay. Okay. Um I I um there are a few things uh as we begin to get into budget season. We're already fully in budget season, but you know um the budget is due May the 20th, so I have a little bit of time

to kind of get that together. Uh we do have some budget committee meetings that uh Dr. Luc has sent out um that we'll be going over. I mentioned that the SEG was increased for FY26. It went from $6,81 to.35 to $6,87710. So that was the increase that of the increase bar for the SEG tonight. And then they announced at spring budget the um SEG for next year FY27 and that is $7,1710. And so that's a difference of $240. So, um, which is good because she's going to drop here. >> They, um, mandated, the state mandated that, uh, insurance be paid at 8020. >> And so, um, that's supposedly supposed to help compensate for that. >> Okay. Um, I haven't got them down and dirty to make sure that it does for you guys yet, but

that is what what they are hopeful. Um, I'm looking at your total adjusted program units for uh figuring the budget. Um, in 27 we have it at 503 436 and for 26 There we go. We had it at must have gone too far. Uh 509864. So it's a little bit but not not bad. Not I don't think it's going to be too bad to for that. Um and then there also is the 1% mandated raise across the board all those. Um, so that that'll be taken into consideration as well. Um, also, uh, like I said, your budget is due on May the 20th. Uh, I will be presenting it the next board meeting for your approval. Um, and we also have a couple of budget meetings in between. So, we'll be able to to do

that. Um, other than that, I I don't really I stand for any questions, but any questions that you all might have? >> Just make sure we have money. Just kidding. >> Yeah. She likes organizations. No, thank you. >> On to the 2026 27 federal grants, >> right? So, we have a few federal grants. U one of them we have to have approved at this meeting. That's a >> but for title one and this is we have to do it every year. application we fill out every year. Title one, we have 273,41962 coming in. It is predominantly going to salaries. Most of the federal monies go to salaries. Um then we don't get title one part C, title one part D. Um, title two, we're getting $30,775.35. Um, and title four part A is $18,77735. Those

two, the title four part A and title three or title two part A will be going toward the CT3 training that will continue this year. Um and then the last part is rural low-income schools title four part B 13,000 um and again that would go toward salary. So that's the federal programs, the title programs, >> and then we have IDAB, which is a special education, our allocation for that. Um, for fund 24106, which is uh not prek, it's all grades, but prek, it's $190,373. And then for the 24109 which is the prepaid portion of the sped is 25448 25,448 and again that will be going predominantly for and then we have CTE funding and so for the federal for next year we'll have a 15,000 that's pretty consistent we get 15,000 every year from the

fed side but from the state side last year we had about 98 8,000 100,000. This year we're getting 133,494 and that will have to go toward materials, supplies, partial salary. We can't pay a lot of salary. We only have, you know, one teacher paid out of this fund. So, we're not allowed to pay his whole salary out of this. You know, we can only do a part like 15 to 20,000. So, the rest of it will be toward equipment. So, we had to figure out what we need because, you know, we've got the plasma cutters, we've got a an alignment machine, we've got a paint booth. We're we're for our size, we're very well equipped CTE wise, at least in the automotive and welding, >> but uh we'll look at other things to try to

find >> spend it. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> We're going to have to >> Yeah, we will get it again. Any back? >> Yeah. Any questions on any of those as far as the monies? Okay. >> So that's over >> the discussion. >> Mhm. >> Okay. So we will move on to item D. Action items. Receive report and recommendations from administration regarding review of board policies and administrative procedures governing special education and revision to same. >> So when I emailed you that that's like a 100page book. So we have or the actual policies about I mean it's what I sent you I think were just the revisions that Walsh Gayos did to the actual existing policy. >> So if you have any questions on that we can but otherwise we have to approve this every year

and it's just our policy procedure man manual for special >> anything specific that was updated. No, just to match federal law. >> So, I would entertain a motion for approval of a policy and procedure manual for special education. Is that how we can word it or >> Mhm. >> Okay. I'll make the motion to approve. Motion by Mrs. Esel. Do I have a second? I'll second. Second by Mrs. poll. All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? That motion carries. We'll move on to B. Approve idea B application including assurance statement. >> Right. So every year um we have to present this to the board. Um and that was the funding 190,000 and the 25,000 um we spent predominantly for salaries. We have to sign off on assurances that will follow the federal law that

we do in order to get this money. So, we just need the board to approve the application. >> I will make a motion to approve the IDB application including um insurance state assurance statement motion by Mrs. Cole. Do I have a second? >> Second. Motion to approve. >> Second by Mr. Prada. All in favor? I. >> Any opposed? >> That motion carries. We'll move on to discussion and approval of bluegate bar. >> Right. So, just so we can true up our stuff instead of having to wait for a board meeting. We want to be able to submit it to PE since our end of our fiscal year is coming up and we do this. This is something we do every year, but it allows us to go on and submit stuff ahead and and then

come back to you with a list of everything that we did submit. So, it's like you're approving the bars after the fact instead of, you know, it's giving us permission to go on and execute like we have and then you'll approve them later. So, >> so I know we always do the blanket bar, but being um how when he talked about the one of the audit findings was that he they recommended a special meeting in June for March to prevent the over budgeting. >> Well, so we we should have got that's on us. We should have caught that. I mean, that should have been done um with because that's what the purpose of these bars are is to true up everything. So, you know, our fiscal year ends July 1 or June 30th. >> Um,

so we don't have to have a special meeting. We just have at the regular meeting to go over any bars. But that's what the business office does and that's the purpose of the bars is like when you see all the maintenance bars that are transferring, that's what we're trying to do is true everything up to what we said so we don't have that mistake that Yeah. Yeah. So will so it'll come back to us prior to so that we don't have this >> binding because it says >> well there's no way until I mean because like we didn't catch it. So even if we had a bar for you know if we didn't catch it and auditors do >> Oh. So there wasn't a bar, >> right? There wasn't a bar. That's why it was

on there. >> Yeah. So it's not it's not the fact that we're doing a blanket bar or anything like that. It's just >> we didn't catch it. So therefore there was no bar generated to move the funds otherwise we wouldn't have they wouldn't have caught that on us. >> I said district didn't make significant progress to correct from previous from prior year. So >> cuz it was for three consecutive wasn't it? >> Yeah two two >> and we're already looking at that fund that fund is already on our radar. >> So um I've already put in to place some things so that it won't happen this year. >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. The bars wouldn't even though he recommends it, but it wouldn't fix it because if we don't catch it, >> right? >> The bar

wouldn't be there wasn't a bar done. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> And that would not like ordinarily to have a negative fund, those things happen, but >> to leave it was the problem. >> Yeah. Any other questions on that? >> Well, I will entertain a motion for approval of the blanket bar. I'll make the motion to approve the blanket bar. Motion by Mrs. Esville. Do I have a second? I'll second. Second by Mrs. Cole. All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Okay, that motion carries. We'll move on to item 11, executive session. Pursuant to 10-15-12 and then SA 1978, limited personnel matters, superintendent. I will entertain a motion to session to accept the motion by Mrs. Esql. Do I have a second? >> Second by Mr. P. Now we'll go ahead and pull the board.

>> Mr. P. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Cole. Hi. >> Myself. >> Hi. >> Did you ride your bike over here? >> No. I was going to say it's getting late. The door's open. I think the lights are on. >> Thank you. I will entertain a motion to reconvene and open session action. >> Yeah, just reconvene in open session and action on executive session. >> Yeah. So, probably reconvene. I kind of got that. Yeah. Okay. >> Yeah, >> I will make a motion to reconvene at 9:01. >> At 9:01 just cuz I'm I'm a noteaker and I think you have to go back to motion by Mrs. Cole. Do I have a second? >> Second. Motion to recommend by Mr. P. I will pull the board. Mr. P. >> Yay. >> Mrs. Esa. >> I. >>

Mrs. Cole I. And myself. I. So for action on superintendent's contract, the board would like to extend your contract another two years. >> I'll make a motion that we extend Dr. Lucas's contract for two more years. >> Thank you. >> Motion by Mrs. Cole. >> Second motion to extend the contract. >> Seconded by Mr. P. All in favor? I >> I need to do a roll. Miss >> Mr. Turns to a I >> Mrs. Esca. >> Uh yeah I >> M I and myself I >> So that motion carries. >> You won't answer my phone call >> and we will adjourn and 902. Thank you guys for putting up with our
