That's okay. That's okay. I just wanted to to rehash for um the programs that we've been doing this summer. We had an expanded we expanded our programs this summer to include quite a bit. Actually, we're serving over 50 kids every day, which is uh pretty good considering with our small population in in our area. Uh we have the the Mexico PED summer literacy institute here. We had 24 students enrolled in the program and we also have a internship program through New Mexico PV as well with that internship program where we serviced 22 kids and then our after afternoon program through Boys and Girls Club we're serving about another 21 kids. So, it's been has been very very busy. Our internship program, what I like about it, it's a robust program. We do a career exploration
with the interns where they will go visit each department, see what they do, the ins and outs of each department and and learn about what's going on within the PBLO to help them kind of decide in a career field, do everything from the medical field to finance to running equipment to welding, car repair, utilities. I mean, the the the doors open for them to learn about different careers. Um, in addition to that, we also have to provide financial literacy classes and here at the PBLO this summer, we have a math certified person here to deliver a financial literacy course. So, I did that today uh with the kids. We do a little budgeting exercise and when I talk I talked to them about scholarships and pitfalls of student loans and when they get those credit
card offers coming in and different things like that. So, we have that course today. So, it it was pretty good. Kids were very inquisitive and like I say, our programs are are open to all. And this summer, we plan to have expanded offerings for the Boys and Girls Club. We're utilizing a new platform called Proare, which everything is online. And the parents register online, submit information online, and and we do attendance through through an app. the kids come in and they check themselves in and then parents can sign off their kids through through the app. So, it's a pretty pretty neat system that we have going and it it's all about accountability and safety, right? So, that's Boys and Girls Club. So, what I'm hoping to do as I talked with Superintendent Gonzalez today is
if the school can provide a bus stop for us at our Boys and Girls Club facility, we can bus kids over here. The only thing is we don't have transportation at home, but the parents would have to understand that they're responsible for picking up their kiddos when the program finishes at 6. Um, an added bonus to that, we have our recreation park, which we got online now. Everything we have up there is functional to include the batting cage, the mountain bike park, trampoline park, uh basketball courts, the swimming pool, the batting cage, everything is is is rolling. And I would like to see if during this school year, and of course I need to talk to Superintendent Gonzalez to flesh this out more and u and our new principal to see if perhaps we can
utilize those facilities for physical education classes. is they're here and and the goal is to get students utilizing them. We did make contact with a certified swimming stripper this weekend. So, I need to flesh that out a little bit so we can offer swimming lessons here at our pool, too. So, hopefully we can add to the offerings of Pasco Independent Schools and get our students up and moving because that's the goal to reduce um incidence of diabetes and and create healthy habits for our kiddos. So that's all we had. I have any questions? >> That's a lot. That is >> do a lot. Yes, sir. >> Uh do the kids have to pay admission for like the batting cages or like the pool or >> So So Madam Chair and schoolboard members, what we're we're
going to have a fee structure, but it's going to be in a donation basis. Um we're going to put up some signs and uh we have a person at the pool now. So, if families are able to, we would ask for a $3 donation to utilize the facilities, and that's only to pay for the upkeep because, as we all know, things are are expensive >> per day. >> Um, yeah, per day. The exception is the pool. The pool is another $3 add-on because there's chemical pools involved that we got to purchase and >> and the utilities and the pool facility are are quite expensive. So, >> I also have a question, Mr. McCully. Um what are the liabilities that would be at risk for Pasco school students to be used? >> So they would have
to set out definitely set up anou um so that way if there should be a class at the facilities then they would be covered under NIPIA >> under the school's insurance but the school's providing a class. >> So >> and so Mr. McCauley and I have been um in conversation. So before you started we had an after school program the five-star that kind of blocks us over our plan is to signal up with Mr. Moly and Mr. Picod and Mr. hopefully um for the tutoring program because it'll be offered K12 and we could definitely make the bus drop. So of course if um if students who are not living out of PBlo there would be arrangements for parents to pick up. >> Yes. >> But the bus but after school they could be busted to
their proposal. >> Yeah. That would help a bus rider too. >> He definitely wants >> Yeah. We're we're set up. I have a person for history, for language arts, and there's a math guy floating around here all the time. So, >> I have another question. Any chance you'd be able to provide a bus driver to provide to do that bus route? Because I know that the history of the bus routes with the schools sometimes. >> Unfortunately, we don't have a bus driver as you know. Um, bus drivers are it's a >> to find that unicorn that's able to do that is very, very difficult. And if we're busing students, we cannot we'd have to follow PED busing rules. So, we don't have the bus or a bus driver. >> And we already have a stop
that comes over here. I believe that we have enough um even substitute bus drivers to have it covered across. >> If a school can make arrangements for after school program drop off, that would be awesome. But I don't know if that's I know we don't have enough though. >> So, we definitely can. Would those kids after school would they just be they would just get on the bus that comes to to pick you? >> Yep. >> What would be the max that you'd be accepting? >> The max right now I'm anticipating we can handle about 25 30 kids. That would allow me to stay within a Boys and Girls Club recommended ratios. and all of our Boys and Girls Club once they're here in Boys and Girls Club property then our Boys and Girls Club
insurance picks them up once they're enrolled and everything like that. So then the responsibility is with the school and all my employees are background checked and so >> so 25 to 30 K12. >> Yeah. >> And is it tribal and non-tribal or >> Yes, tribal and non-tribal. >> One more question. Is it pretty much first come first serve or there's going to be like a selection of what students will will be coming? >> It'll probably be first come first serve and the openings happening. Usually in the beginning you'll get a big influx and then it tapers off and then you'll have your your hardcore 15 that shows up. >> Okay. >> That's usually the case. I'm wondering if maybe we can offer it to I mean of course students should always have first preference because
they're here and then those students who are struggling like if if there's that interest. >> Yeah. And you know, it's always a delicate dance with parents to to get them here cuz sometimes students that struggle don't necessarily have the supports to >> do that little extra step, right? But but we're here. >> Do you have like a a listing somewhere? because he's mentioned a lot and that's awesome that that there is a lot but is there like a you know posted somewhere or is it somewhere where parents can say this is >> we we post on uh on the education department's Facebook page we have internal memos throughout the PBLO and we also post on Puro Pasco that's kind of the the news reel around here >> we do have a flyer made up for
uh for after school program I'll send it to as soon as it's done. There's a couple things we have to change on it >> and we'll post that on our website um and our Facebook as well. >> Yes. >> And then we could probably send one home with the kids. >> Oh, question. [clears throat] >> Would the how would it be would it be structured? Like they'd come and they get off the bus and then they would like do like tutoring or is it kind of like they get off the bus and it's like a free-for-all? They can choose to go to the batting cages or they can go swimming or like >> No, it's a free-for-all. Actually, we're going to dump them in the mountains. But the survivors that come through, we help them.
The ones that the bears No, just kidding. It is structured. We We have what's called a power hour where it's homework help for the first hour and then after that is the recreational activities >> with the trampoline or >> whatever. >> And I believe the Boys and Girls Club also does like kind of snacks and stuff also, right? >> See, that's one thing. I don't know. I gotta find a funding source for that because our state funding does our state funding. They don't cover food. >> Boys and girls. >> So, boys and girls, we could, but they don't have funds right now. That well got got stripped. >> And what time does this end at? >> 6. But I know it's it's a long it's a long haul from from 4:00 until >> 6 kids
get hungry. But I know the after school snack happens around 3:30ish. >> So there's that snack at the school or if the school so wishes they could shift the the snack service to appear at a later time, but that's up to the school's preview. >> So we we can't do that because it has to be within the school. It has to be from the school >> with a grant. Yeah. >> Yeah. So that that's one issue I foresee. But we can always fund raise um do something to provide snacks, maybe a basketball game or something. >> And we could look for grants as well so that we can both go ahead. What do you anticipate your your teacher or adult student ratio? >> 10 to1. [clears throat] >> Do you um what is your staff
like? What is your what does that look like? >> Currently I have three people for the boys and girls club plus myself. So a big important point >> and I don't really count myself because said to be running and helping my hair on fire >> throwing trash or writing grants >> and those guys are funded through pic right the grants >> because that was a problem with the fivestar last year is that they were using the parents income >> kind of like trying to get him to apply for like Medicare Medicaid and then they were trying to like get it was really weird that how they were trying to get their funding and that's how come it kind of like fell apart. >> No, we we have funding established so that's that's solid. >> One
more question on your 10 to1 age group. I'm your 10 to1 ratio. Um I'm assuming it'll be by age group. You know, we're not going to have kindergarteners with high schoolers and >> Well, because of the numbers that we get, they they do get mixed. So, we might have a K3 group, >> okay? a four six group and then middle school high school that's because we may not get enough kindergarters or >> Mr. Molly um if we get our education through like the CTE like the education focused education like those that are interested in becoming teachers we could then pay students that qualif you know they have to have a GPA um to help with the training as well. We'd be happy to host it >> if I could do um or even their uh
pathway or the capstone. >> We also have have um right now it'd be unpaid unless you could find a funding mechanism through a CTE stuff, but we have internship opportunities through our environment department. We need >> kiddos out there to help you out >> to do benthic studies, water quality studies. I know our environment department is sore. They need somebody like that. And I know I mean pretty much every department of PBLO would be happy to have an intern. They really like our interns because they do work hard and some of the kids you see in school acting one way then you see them in a job and it's completely different and they're they're really good employees. So I've been pleasantly surprised with them. >> That's good to hear. >> Madam Shield and then to
add to Mr. former colleagues. I know when I was governor and and the new governor, we also feel the same way, but we're really big on the trades and that kind of um um um skill levels that we don't see around here. So, I know we are working with the previous superintendent and now um the current superintendent to really make this happen um to really push the trades and not only for credits but um on the job training and then summer um internship as well. So, appreciate that support. >> So, we did apply and as you guys know we apply for a youth grant that we received and it specifically only for intern we have some funds. We have departments that are happy to have interns. >> We work closely together. >> Our two guys
there, interns at the car care center. It's you see them and they're kind of cuz both of I mean they're not they're like your number one a students that can knows all the trigonometric functions and stuff, but you take a car to them and and you see one of them deserve welding and putting stuff together. just really super happy to be working and focused. It's it's a great thing. >> Yes, we will definitely be partnering and like Lieutenant Governor Contra stated, this is something that we've been working on. I'm going to say it's been almost three years and finally got funds for it. So, right there. Any other questions or discussion? Okay. Well, thank you. Thank you for hosting this and thank you for the discussion and the answers. And I just want to commend
um you know talking to some of the students at at the middle school high school and I was asking them what they were going to do this summer and a lot of them were going to do work here and I just think that's really that was really awesome to hear that they had those opportunities. We picked up a lot of kids during that career fair at the school >> because we asked our human resources department to do a presentation. In fact, one of our students is an intern actually put together the presentation when she did it. So, we got a lot of interns out of it. >> Congratulations on what you're doing. >> Yeah. Um yeah, remember like I said our um facilities and all that. I know we're um basically like a big family
about knowing all that when we used to go by ourselves, we never got nothing because of all the numbers, but knowing that when you collaborate on your local communities, you get more stuff accomplished >> and then it goes into the government side and then once they see that collaboration, that's found out that stuff gets petitioned, that scene started. But um again, no, thank thank you um for um let me come here. I can see our facilities here. Um but with that um again our feast day is coming in 3 weeks. So it'll be August 10th. Um you guys are all invited. Welcome for them to go help us celebrate our feast day. Um come to my house and eat. I mean they say it's a governor's feast day too. So I'll be feeding there. Come
on by and have some fried red chili with us. Um house 50 Jack Rabs in the house. >> Awesome. Thank you. >> Well again thank you guys again. And with that, I'd like to respectfully excuse myself and my lieutenant. >> Um, we were talking about a venue for our upcoming retreat. I know that's something that we discussed at our last meeting if we could possibly request to have a venue. Um, but the details would come later. We're looking at October. So, just something to think about. >> We're we're at the hotel >> possibly here. >> Sure. Yeah. Yeah. If you guys know me, you guys want to know, we'll we'll be able to accommodate you guys in that. just give us some dates and we could let um >> somebody the secretary's way to set
it up down there. Our people down there and just let us know if you guys want to use it now. >> Thank you. >> Or the tent setups your stuff. [laughter] >> With that note, thank Vicki for the hard work. You guys do know the rest of hours I go to sleep. But I know Gwen's here. Gwen's my ear here. So with that, um I like to myself. Thank you. Thank you for allowing us to stay. >> Yeah. Thank you, Gina. Anytime, you know, we can work together. I mean, this has been our vision since day one to to get us communities together to make progress if you like. So, we can do to help or support you guys, especially with our Boys and Girls Club. Like, we fought hard to get that. And it's
not funded. They don't pay us or for or anything. I think it's Marvin has been working his butt off to get these grants and and make this really happen because at one point we almost lost it and it's been it's been a challenge for us. So I'm happy to see that you guys are supporting it and we appreciate it. Thank you. >> Thank you. [laughter] >> Okay. item on the agenda is 5 or 5. So it would be five B now. >> Oh, I thought we switched to A and C. >> We just moved C up. >> Okay. >> All right. So audit finance committee. So um it is time to do a switch and have an have other opportunities to join that committee. Uh right now we have myself and Miss Simalo doing the
finance committee and um Mr. Gonzalez doing the audit committee. >> So anyone interested in the finance committee? I am still interested in in doing that. I feel like um it's it's a lot to learn and I'm just barely getting scratching the surface. So I'm interested in continuing that if if someone else is someone else is interested. >> So what we really need is two for the audit, two for the finance and then one sub. >> Anyone else interested in the finance committee? I can do it >> once a month. 3:30 could probably be changed. >> Yeah. I'll talk to Janice back >> because you don't get out till 5:30, >> right? >> Yeah. Okay. >> Okay. So, um for finance committee that would be Miss Martinez and Miss Fran. And then um audit committee is
two times a year. I believe there is an entrance meeting and an exit meeting. Um, anyone interested in doing that? Misaga need another individual helping with that. I I'll commit to that. It's only twice a year. I can't say that. I can commit the way that I left the finance committee hanging. You know, I apologize. my duties were important here and I couldn't leave and the time wasn't allowed to be changed at that time where I couldn't attend as much as I would like to but um the audit committee is fine >> and just make I'll be your substitute for your finance committee. >> All right. Do we have a sub for >> got it? Okay. So um for our audit committee we have Miss Lisa and Miss Similo and then our substitute for the
finance committee is Miss Visaraga and substitute for the audit committee is Mr. Gonzalez. Thank you everybody and we will look into the claim change for finance. >> All right. So then next on the agenda, >> madam chair, um item now 5C, the orientation for 54. Um I guess just a friendly reminder that um we have our orientation on August 4th. Um we're asking for all of you guys to be present. I guess I'm going to ask for something a little bit different if you guys don't mind um inter I guess sitting out there with the staff. Um the only so we would have Miss um Grant sit up with the the admin and then every we want everyone else and different tables. It'll be at the elementary comments and >> starting at 8. >> She
there's also an email that they sent to us. >> Yeah, I saw that one too. The agenda's on there just >> and I did attach the agenda to this um agenda. And so you'd have that. I will also send you guys a reminder uh via text um higher that probably that weekend because I believe that's Monday. >> Yeah. >> So I'll send it to you that Saturday. >> I'm assuming you wanted our photos and bios before orientation. >> Um so Miss is working on revamping our um website. So if you guys can get those be great. Okay. So if would you um would you want us to just be there present like during the presentations and and you guys are more than welcome to stay through our thing. Um it's so on the fourth I'm
trying to make it as efficient as possible since we only have the two days. So we'll do our welcome we'll go over um our procurement and then we have a guest speaker and then lunch. So I'll say from to noon one we invite you guys to say please >> John the governor >> he said he'd be in attendant. >> Yes. >> I believe both is available. They confirmed. >> Okay. Just remind me that they confirmed so I can get them. I'll send you the when I you mind the board I'll make sure that I >> Yeah. They get to the text and then tell me your response like the text [laughter] too. >> I'll send you guys a text off. We have a fast job description. [laughter] >> Many hats. >> Yeah. >> Need to
go pick up the trash over here. Okay. Let me finish this grant. [laughter] I like it. Yeah, >> seem to be doing a very nice job. >> Okay, so on Sunday agenda is 5D and that is the Dayton View board retreat for October. So um so Madam Chair, >> I apologize. I guess I would like to make a recommendation for um the date and venue. So, we originally had it scheduled for September and I know that not everybody could make it. Um, my recommendation, the way we had it scheduled with a calendar, the board calendar that I believe I don't know if it was shared with everyone, but I know definitely shared with you is we had it as part of our board meeting that day. Um, we know that you guys are also busy,
so we were trying to include it. Um then and since we're I guess going in a different direction with Miss Cordova, it made more sense to have it as part of the um board meeting and then longterm it saves us money um from traveling and then that reimbursement. So also I I think that with um you know in in the past or prior to adopting the our new framework we were getting data student data at the beginning of the year and then at the end of the year new um structure we're get we're going to be getting data student data and doing the progress monitoring and superintendent evaluations frequently. So this retreat may be a little redundant or um you know we're just shifting in in the the way we're doing things. So So that
would be another reason why maybe and then and then putting the um administrator uh presentations within the board meetings. That's going to save us time too and not having to do a a separate meeting. and the um the board calendar was shared out with all of you. >> So, um you heard the recommendation to to not have a board a board retreat in October, but rather switch the data to be given in September regular board meeting. Is there a motion? to move. >> Um, Miss uh, Madame Chair, >> yes, >> we are not in a we are not in an approval item. >> Okay. So, we didn't need to make a motion. >> No. >> So, we just agree that it's that we're going to do that. >> Okay. >> So, we're we're in agreement.
>> Yep. Okay. Okay. Great. Do you guys all agree with that or and this my >> any question? >> You may have a different reason as to why >> I have [clears throat] a question regarding the venue now. So that being said, are we going to still need the venue? >> No. Okay. Well, so sorry. I apologize for saying that earlier, but >> it's just for scheduling purposes, right, with the hotel. >> Yeah. >> Because we need to get it now then wait till later. >> We appreciate it. >> Yeah. Then we would need it and we would move it back to September. >> To a regular meeting, right? Yeah. Okay. So, you won't have to take that thing. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, next on the agenda is uh 5E and that's the ADHR
committee to organize the content of the schoolboard manual. So, we would need um one other board member to help with um it's it's like like Mr. court of it's basically cutting and pasting. We're adopting Riosa's manual, adding um the schoolboard evaluate self- evaluation and uh guards >> guard rails. Thank you. And goals to we would she would Miss Cordova would help us with those. So, I I don't anticipate meeting more than a couple of times. And my recommendation would be to have it done by October so that it would be ready for other um anyone who's interested in running for school board. They would have that manual to look at and see what direction we're going in. So, is anyone interested? And it what I the way I would think we could meet is through
Zoom and then just share the screen and work on the document that way. So we wouldn't need to actually get together. Is anyone interested? >> I'm interested but I would suggest meeting in person versus over Zoom. >> Okay, that would be fine. All right. So, Miss Visi Saraga would be meeting with myself or uh to adopt not adopt to to organize the content of the schoolboard manual. And then um we would also need to do run it through a a policy for a first review and a second review and then and then the board would have to to adopt it. Any questions? All right. Next item on the agenda is 6A. >> But I kind of went through that the timeline for the completion. >> So then um with this one, I guess my own
question, we would then put it in our which agenda for the first hearing? be August or or September? >> I would say probably just to be safeless um and want it in October. I guess it would have to be August >> because then it would have first reading and then >> second reading in September >> and then have it ready >> to for approval in October. >> Yeah. >> Well, we usually go to meetings >> you would do September >> and October >> would be the second October. Yeah. And then it should be approved. >> Okay. Right. >> Cuz that would give you August to get it already. >> Right. >> Cuz we don't have that much time. >> Right. I don't think it's going to be too difficult, but it should be good. >>
I haven't pasted it onto the drive, but I will u put it on the drive for you. >> Um Madame Chair, um I recommend approval of item this. This is the soft post and this is the second uh read greetings I gave the adjustment the change that must be um stated about adding the electronic devices. I also have a second question on it. I wasn't able to access my email so I wasn't I don't know if there was questions or anything or a box like that. I've actually done some homework on this is I don't know if it's appropriate time to talk on it but um cell phone policy. So yes, we're going to make that change to electronic devices, but do we have anything written on it yet? Like a proposal on it or
a policy on it or anything? >> This is So what I've added in there is the policy. >> Okay. Cuz I I do have one question regarding teachers. So let's say if um Miss Simolo here was teacher A and Mr. laws. There's teacher B. Teacher A is very on it, accountable, and teacher B is not. Um, >> so it would so this wouldn't be within the class. I mean, everyone would have to be on the same page. The policy would have to be for everyone. So the plan is in how we're going to proceed with it is that they get turned in front office. >> Right. Right. And I agree with that. But can we implement that this policy beyond their evaluations on teacher evaluations like if if teacher B >> no >> and we
would have to also I mean so no and we would even if we wanted to do that we would have to still take it to the union. >> Okay. So I I'm going to say no. >> I just a question. Yeah, this is I just wanted to know how we're going to be able to hold people accountable >> and I'm going to say I and this has been a conversation throughout almost every single district. We know that it's going to it's going to be going to be tough. It's the first year that we're implementing it. So we know that we're going to there's going to be some struggles, but >> Okay. And what about one more question? What about the cost of like the resources that we're going to use? Are we going to be
using bags to like put them in or >> So, we're using right now what the school has are like those like for your shoe holders, but I think it's called a cell phone holder. I don't know if it is or not. So, that's what they have. So, we would collect them from all of the classrooms and place them all into the front. Um, we're going to I have a conversation or I will be having a conversation on the 28th with the principles to see how they want to execute it. We're going to I mean, I don't see it being an issue at the elementary. you think it's going to be more of an issue at the secondary level. >> Thank you. >> Middle. >> I have a question also. Lisa brought up a good point.
Um, so teachers will also be turning in their phones. No. >> No. Um, but I'll be also talking with the principles of what that expectation will be. If we're asking our students, then what does that look like for our staff? We should be modeling um what we're wanting from our our students. So those are conversations that we'll be having on the 20th and then with some there's we have some circumstances that um teachers will have to have their phones um and students that will have to have their phones for medical issues, >> right? Because we still have the same program that we did last year for active shooter. We press the button on it, right? Okay. >> Teachers I mean we won't be taking away teacher phones but the agenda. >> Thank you. Hey, next
agenda. >> Oh, this is sorry. You've heard the recommendation by the superintendent. Is there a motion? >> So move. >> Motion by Miss Martinez. Is there a second? Second by Miss Grant. Any more discussion? All in favor say I. I >> Any opposed? >> So this po um if I may, Madam Chair, so this policy is complete. We have to have it in place. >> Is there a way we can table it for the next meeting? >> We have to have it in >> before August 1st. This is why you brought it up to with this one, the special thinking. >> The only reason I'm hesitant on it is because I I I would like to know the plan for the teachers. >> Um >> it's really not a teacher policy. It's a student. No,
I understand. But like this policy is for students, not for teachers right now. >> Yeah. We're we're a governing body. So it is the it is the superintendent to to manage. >> Okay. >> So it is her management piece. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> My concern is with the parents, right? How are they going to feel if we take them away from our kids and an emergency happens and they can't get a hold of their kids? And how are we going to handle that? How are you guys going how are we are we going to discusses at the town hall meeting and um how are we going to handle a lot of that >> and one more concern was the liability of let's say that we take the students phone away and it breaks >>
or it gets lost or >> so they would probably I mean these are discussions that I'm going to have with the with our principal so if we I mean there's cases that we can place them in that are locked and stored um they would be either in the principal's office or the secretary's office. We're going to have to come up with a a way. Like I said, I know this isn't going to be easy. It's not just us. It's every district across the state and everyone has to have something implemented by Yokas first. Is it going to be perfect? Probably not. Um we're going to have growing pains. I'm sure quite a bit of them. uh not only for us as staff but for parents and for the students because it's the new normal. >>
Yeah. >> Seemingly enough. >> So parents aren't aware of this. >> So once this gets approved uh then we'll be sending we'll post it on the website. We have a fact sheet ready to go. >> Um like we we're starting the process. We know the birds. It's going to be tough that we >> already had has their some nice >> because it was in the house news a lot of >> schools a lot. >> So I mean parents I'm sure are aware that it's coming. >> It's been on the news. >> Mhm. >> Mr. McCauley, how has it been working? Now I know that the students here aren't allowed >> um >> to use their phones, but they still have them. >> They still they still have them. So it's a classroom management issue on
me last year. >> Yeah. >> So it was a matter of of me delivering instruction and being the police person in terms of cell phone usage. It does get in the way of instruction. It's it's it's difficult, you know. Um I can't say that my class was perfect. Nobody uses their cell phones cuz I know those little boogers sneaky, you know. They are sneaky. But with this new law that was passed and it is a state law is a it's a tough one and people ask me why don't you want to be a superintendent anymore >> things like this do people at me >> it is going to be a learning curve and I think parents are going to be very concerned like what symbol said in terms of what if I need to contact
my kid it's about educating parents saying you have to call this number and we will get your kid to you educating the impression of that piece. >> But we do have a fact sheet that has all of that information on them >> and then they're going to say, "What if it gets stolen?" So, you know, if you just have them in a location that >> anybody can get into. I mean, these things are 1,200 bucks. Um, I I would personally I would be hesitant to put my cell phone someplace and trust it's it's going it's going to be there. >> So, hopefully they won't bring them. So, >> I could tell you that we I spoken to other districts that are trying to implement it. Um, and kids are fat. They're crafty and they're fast.
Uh, they have a a burner phone. So, they turn that one in, they get the other phone. Um, they text with one one hand. They look like they're looking at you and they're over here. >> They're quick. They're very >> And the watches are another electronic devices. Um, there's Yeah. >> Yes. want to give a k a test or a quiz and take off their watches. >> Smart watches is part of those electronic devices. But we do have a fact sheet like you said ready to go. I just want to make sure that I review it with our principles because really they're the ones that are going to be >> Can you also share that with us so that we can review it for us for our own? Um so once I share it with
them and we if we need to add or take away um we're we're working with other districts that are also implementing it right now. So we're trying to have all of our lingual very similar uh our policy is very similar. The fact sheets very similar this way >> was this through the policy service to get them >> and generally those are vetted by attorneys and stuff. So there it it is a concern that it is probably at the beginning going to take away from instruction time. >> You know that's just going to be a a given. >> Stupid home. >> Just like school in the '90s. >> I was going to say we there's a there is a pay phone. I know there was a pay phone in the comments that we did. >> We
didn't have a pay phone. >> We did either. >> You didn't have a pay phone? Oh, >> we privileged. >> We did have a phone >> in my home. >> I remember the day of the I was little of the party line. [laughter] >> Oh, [gasps] party line. So there was a there was a motion by Miss Martinez >> and then second by Miss Grant and then >> all in favor >> I saga. Let's do a roll call. Missaga. >> Good. >> Um all in favor all opposed. >> I do call. >> Yeah. Okay. Um, Miss Carolyn Grant, >> yes. >> Mr. Jason Gonzalez, >> yes. >> Miss Gwen Symbolo, >> yes. >> Miss Monique Fisera, >> yes. >> Miss Patricia Martinez, yes. >> Can you do everybody's job at me? [laughter] >> Thank you.
I'm going to ask for on that one. It's going to be a tough one. Um, >> yes. Yeah, >> chair. I [clears throat] asked for approval of item uh 6B. This is the MLOU with test behavior health uh social work. So, I know you guys >> I think I gave a little bit of details. Um I know you guys approved the test behavior health um contract um for those services. Uh this would be for social work. So our we had Miss um Shannon Medina who uh declined the position that was offered to her and in order for us to start the year with the social worker. We know that it's a hard a hard find. Um we're asking to do anotherou with test behavior health. um we will be saving the district um quite I'll
say quite a bit of money because we're not hiring the position um she was our only applicant and we had had that posted for quite some time. So um our only other option is to go back with house behavior health. I will say that I didn't hear any complaints from anyone with the work that they were providing last year. Um was it perfect? Um obviously maybe not perfect perfect but like I said I do not care nothing came to me. >> Did any of the teachers have any input or feedback um based of based out of that house behavioral health? >> No. No. I think maybe next time we should ask for feedback from the staff and the the teachers and just to see how it's working. You know the social work. Like I said,
I guess the biggest problem right now is that we don't have there's no interest in it. The one person that um >> we had like I said the kind of um for health issues. So I mean a very valid reason, >> right? Could could I suggest that there is some kind of train training through NAMI so to break that stigma of behavioral health because mental health is most important and if you don't get educated people aren't going to want to drop the stigma around it right I know this firsthand because I'm a consumer my mother is schizophrenic and I deal with that all the time and you know like my son goes to counseling so I think that anybody needs to be educated on mental health for behavioral health purposes I have a quick question
about Tus Behavior Health. Are they provising providing social work or counseling services? >> So, they'll be doing both. >> That's where my question is, Miss Gonzalez. Um, are we going to be paying them above $60,000? >> So, no, it was right at the thresh of 60,000, >> but combined with their other contracts, >> I believe the total withhold was 60. Right. At 60. >> All right. Cuz otherwise we would have to go to >> Yeah. >> RFP. >> Yep. >> Well, last week did they did not use the saving. >> It doesn't matter if they don't go [clears throat] if it's over the 60. It's 44. Um >> if the contract itself >> Yeah. >> they still get the 60. I mean, we might not use it, but then the auditor might say, "Well, you
contracted with them." Yeah. >> So, it's not over this. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I believe it's right at 60 with all of it. >> Just >> I'm right. Yeah. >> So, it was last year. >> Mhm. >> It was right at it was right below the threshold. We didn't have to take it back. >> And do you know if our here it says that their social case workload for pine schools is 20 students. Are they serving 20 students or these what are what is their case >> their case? So, they have quite a bit. Um, I'm going to say yes, it is now. Um, just to let you know, so the last mold I mean, she threw in a and I don't know if you saw my face when she said she asked for
a two-year. It was supposed to be a one-year. She threw it in there at the last minute and um she did not give us theou until the date of so we added in we added it late. So I did ask her uh that I wanted this to be only a one year. So it's it is written in there that it's only for one year. Any other questions? Are these services just for students or they former students? just for students, right? Yes. >> Does that include their >> So some of them Yes. And they do so they do see adults but it's not within the we can that's fine. for this one. >> We just won't start we'll start off the year without the social a social worker. >> If you need compensatory time, >> it's
I'm okay with that. So, you've heard the recommendation for the approval of the house social work services. Is there a motion? >> Motion by Mr. Gonzalez. Is there a second? >> A second. >> Second by Miss Simalo. However, I'm going to add the piece in. Again, I request that we have some kind of training so for behavioral health so that there is interest and to break the stigma because it's very very important not to just sweep it under the rug and I I have it on my notes as well. >> All in favor say I. >> I. >> Any opposed? Motion carries. Madame Chair, I recommend special. You've heard the recommendation. Is there a motion motion? Motion by Miss Saga. All in favor say I. I. >> Motion carries. >> Say no. >> What's that?
>> I didn't get to say no. [laughter] >> All right. So meeting adjourned at 6:59 >> and just to let you know that so this week the district is closed for the entire week. Um I will not be I will be out of state with the M cell service. Um tomorrow through Thursday um if you do need something you guys can judge Mr. will be added. >> Did you say the the the doors or the fenders because uh there's also the sports >> and there a text message reminding you about orientation. >> Miss Grant, do you want to talk about meeting or the Sure. also did an FYI text you miss did uh resign actually accepted the position as um bring students in Espanola excite excited and proud of her. Um I was in communication
with her throughout the so um friendly advice of what what to do to try to get the position. So, she was pretty excited. So, she did submit her resignation. Um, I know that we had mentioned about moving Miss Gistle over there. Um, however, I have asked Miss Soul, she was with uh CTE and was part of those federal programs in 2003. We do have a few um individuals who are interested in the math um position. So we miss Annette will be hosting the position and then we will move forward. Um I do want to state that we have started rewriting some of the grants um to cover Miss Bissell's position all taken out of operation. >> Is this [clears throat] my shirt? >> Yes. >> So this is from the So these shirts were from
the neural that was up there. >> Oh, okay. Um, >> why were the keys they can I know every year they take away the keys, but how come was it? >> I know who told you about it. >> Actually, there's been multiple teachers that have asked why. >> Basically took every year they are supposed to turn them in. Um, now I did put them away because she did turn them in. She didn't. So, it was a simple thing of you turn them in. if you need him, you you ask get it approved. This way we know. So, we have a lot of keys that are just out there and a lot of doors that are being left open. So, we're we need to figure out >> who has those keys um and who has um
the grandmaster keys. So, it seems like there's quite a bit of individuals who have grandmaster keys that should not have them. So, we're doing a list somewhere.
