Um also if we can I would like to ask the board if we could move item 9A executive session uh right under item five public comment. under public comment. >> Under public comment >> and then I also wanted to um and that's when I need to um get a motion, right? So well and the motion um I would also um recommend that we move so I and I apologize I I guess I removed consent items from our agenda. If we could
003put um >> I guess approve. >> Yeah. Um for approval of consent agenda right underneath item six B and just for it to say consent agenda >> and then our consent items. I apologize. I also wanted well so you've heard the recommendation by the superintendent. Is there a motion? So moved by Miss. Is there do I have a second? Second. Second by Miss Vaga. Um any discussion? Um I was also just wanted to mention to the board that we under um the approval items. So number eight or sorry under seven so under data presentations that um for progress progress monitoring we do need to get an approval of those reports because they are official official and they are part of Miss Gonzalez's uh evaluation. So they go towards we need to adopt them so they
004go towards her evaluation. So we'll do an approval there. >> All right. Um Madam Secretary, can you get a roll call? Mr. Jason Gonzalez. Yes. >> Miss Patricia Martinez. Yes. All right. So, thank you. Thank you
006for coming. I just want to let our uh public know that we do we value your comments. We value your um presentations. Uh but at this time, we the board does not um respond to any of the of the comments and you would later get um can refer things to Miss Gonzalez. Okay. Oh, good evening. >> Those of you who don't know, I'm Adam Marleta, middle school high school baseball coach. Um, we just wanted to come up tonight and say thank you for the work that was done on the baseball field. Um, um, I just want to say it was really important and I'm super glad it got done now before the winter came in. And yeah, I'm just happy the boys and or the students are going to have a place to play this
007upcoming season. And we just want to say thank you to the board and Miss Gonzalez, Mr. Null, and everyone who was involved and to show our appreciation. Yeah, you guys had a few words to say also, but me, thank you guys so much. It's much appreciated. >> You're welcome. Thank you. >> Um, my name is Andre Schultton. Superintendent Malis and all board members. I came here for myself and to represent Pasco Middle School and High School baseball team. We wanted to express our gratitude and it's greatly appreciated. Thank you. Good evening. I want to give a heartfelt thank you
008to Miss Gonzalez, our board members, Mr. Null, and everyone involved in fixing up our baseball field. Your hard work, dedication, and time spent fixing the field means uh so much to all of us, and you made a real difference. We truly appreciate it. Thank you. >> You're welcome. Um uh thank you for this uh to the superintendent school board and all those uh who are fixing our baseball field. Uh your hard work means a lot for us who love the game and the community. We really appreciate uh your support to make our field a great place to play. Thank you. >> Good evening. I just wanted to say thank you for the new baseball field. It means a lot to our team and we appreciate the support and effort that you put on put on
009the put the effort you put onto it to make it happen. Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Thank you very much. Yes. They were so happy to have the field back again. So, thank you and we appreciate everything you guys did for us. >> You're welcome. >> Thank you. Your efforts are truly have truly made a positive impact, and we appreciate your commitment on creating a great environmental play. >> Thank you. >> Yeah. Thank you, Alvin. Thank you. >> Have a good season. >> Have a good night. Well, hello everybody. Um, I'm just coming to see um I think it was last year, maybe like in March after basketball season,
010there was a meeting about elementary basketball. There were monies that were left over from graduating classes. I put in a fundraiser form, got the okay, wrote a letter to all these classes. I'm just wondering what's happening with that money because elementary basketball starts here pretty quick and it's going to be for the elementary uh program. I know field board members were there. We had some coaches there. Uh sponsors from other classes. I got the letter approved saying to send out. I got signatures. I got yeses. People are happy that we're going to do this. I just need to know where we're at on it. And if it's not going to pass, how are you guys going to make elementary basketball as happy as we made middle school, high school baseball? Because there is no money
011there. The girls had to fundra last year to get uniforms. Uh parents had to take them to their games. Parent right here. You know, parents pitched in, bought food. >> Yeah. We want to build programs and I would just like to know where that money is going to be. It was $4,700. And if it's uh because the last board meeting something came up something about a class blah blah blah. If that's the case, if it is in your policies or whatever, I would like to know how putting money into a class for 13 years is going to benefit when we could use it this year for the kids that we actually have in sports. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. Thank you. >> So, I just want to let um let everyone know
012that this uh this was a time for public comment. Is there any public any other public comments online? And um we would be out of violation of voting A if we are at after this point in the year having any uh public comments and responding. So just wanted to remind everyone of that. Madam fire, at this time I ask that um go ahead and go into I make the recommendation that we go into second. So the recommendation to go into the executive session and I have a motion. >> So make a motion by Miss Martinez. Do I hear a second? Second. Second by Missaga. >> Roll call, please. >> Mr. Jason Gonzalez, >> yes. >> Miss Monique, >> yes. Miss Patricia Martinez, yes. Miss Caroline Grant, >> yes. >> Miss Beno, >> yes. >> Motion
013carries. and we will go into executive session at 6:17 p.m. >> So we will I'm sorry that we will we'll be going into executive session. So we will when we can be we will we will call you back in that um executive >> executive session. Um, >> very professional. I like it. >> The board reconvened at 7:19 from executive session. Only those >> only those items listed were discussed in executive session and were limited to those specified before closure and no action was taken. Um, Madame Chair, at this time, >> sorry, let me just say >> what time did you reconvene, Madam Chair? >> Um, Madame Chair, at this time, um, >> I stand for any questions on my report. I know that I have it was a very lengthy one. Um, and I try
014to answer all I try to get to all of the questions that were asked of me. Um, I stand for any questions. I can kind of do a quick breakdown on um, what I have here. It was So, I will let you know our attendance um, districtwide we were at 27. Sorry, we're at 277. I apologize. I think my my numbers are opposite. We were at 278 and we are currently at 277. I can let you know that that number has dropped by by four, I believe. Um, we have a family that moved out uh out of town while they're taking their students to um so I could let you know when I pulled this out was a little um later after it happened or before it happened. Um I also reported I I was
015asked to report on our SP9 results. So I'm excited and I thank you guys. Um and I thank all of the community uh for their support. um SB9 was passed. Um did a little and I won't say I did it. Missette helped me um with the breakdown of our precincts and how how we won. So with Rio Rea and I won't go through all of it, but you know Riva said yes, 28% said no. South County it was 60% yes and 40% no. Um I am just thank you I thank all of you guys for uh your support. Um, I wrote that in prayer as well. Just I do want to say I I thank you for allowing me to take the lead on this. Last time it was really hard having to bring everything
016to the board for approval. I think um >> by just being able to run with it, I think we were able to get a lot more done. Um I also want to note that in my report um I was asked to like an update on where we are with our the governing council manual. So it has been submitted to the policy services. Uh the person who reviews it um was going to be out until the 12th and once they get back and it does take about a week or two get it approved. So once we get it we will let you guys know. um this information. So, it's I want to say this, it's embargoed. So, we won't do any big celebrations until it's not embargoed anymore. Um I'm going to say it's embargoed, but
017it was already shared out with news. Um but I'm excited to say that um our high school is a spotlight school, so that's the highest that we can get. Um middle school and elementary are traditional, and that's the second one. And I kind of just in case you didn't know what that meant. Um I put a little statement in there what it is. Um there was a question about or they an update on our buses and just in case you didn't read read it. So our activity bus is in the in the shop still. Um I had put that it's going to be two to three weeks but when I was speaking to Miss Paula today when she did her check in I think we're going to have it by the end of next week.
018Yeah. Um I will let you know. So there was a section that was kind of loose and I mean it's an additional $5,000 for like for the >> the check engine light and all of that. There's like a little I'm going to say like a band a small little b. But we have to replace the whole thing. Um but I'm going to let you know that Miss Pa is I think she worked on bringing that amount down. like well um so she's negotiating for us. Pretty excited about um and then staffing. This was something that was asked from the board as well. We did hire Maria Maria Marie sorry PCO as a long-term sub in the cafeteria. Um and that will happen we'll keep her there like a trial run until December 1st and then
019at that time we'll proceed with interviews. Um we did I have put here about the custodial staff but I want to give an update that our custodial staff we um interviews were conducted uh yesterday and I there was a recommendation made so we're hoping that that position will be filled u fairly quick. We have the interviews and I had spoken to the staff about the ELA and our Fed. Um so we're working on that. It's not a full-time position. Uh so we're seeing what we can do and we may have a long-term sub in one of these areas uh just because of some lensure issues that we encountered. Um yes for any other question the gas leak was fixed. Yes. >> Oh, that's your part. >> I think they just fill up with the little
020>> That's what they have. They don't have a big one. So, they I mean, that's my my word. When I when they first came, that was my thought. I was like, that's what they're going to fill it up with. But, um, they're bringing they bring a couple of of love. It's the It's like the regular one that they use for >> I've seen like a semi I'm never but I've seen like in the past a semi like a large one. >> So this company doesn't have that yet. We're hoping that they do but um I think >> they did fill they did come several times to fill it >> to a higher level. So now they're coming and we're not contracted with them for them to come and check it, but they're still been real
021good about coming in and making sure that we're up and >> has asked um to make sure that it's still I mean I'm worried like this. It is >> there's no delivery fee, right? >> Okay. >> No, I I was worried about that too, but no. The gas at the elementary Where was it at? Um, it was on the back end near the consul office >> outside and but we were told that it looks like it had been there for years. >> The reason I asked is there's like, you know, new technology these days where you can spot gas systems. >> That's how they spotted it. So, yeah, it was Yeah, that's exactly how they spotted it. Um they did a whole walk through all the items they found. It was pretty quick, but they
022checked every everywhere to see because >> Yeah. >> And they fixed it fairly quickly, too. They came in and they did what they needed to do. >> I do want to just point out, you know, with the government shutdown, and I know that it's back up, but when I was writing this, it was not we're still in shutdown. But regardless, um I'm really excited that Miss Lauri with community schools and say a lot of our students um have and I named other people in here, you know, the night of Columb Columbus the spot and there's some other partners as well. Uh we have now the blue door pantry especially because um benefits were cut from a lot of families. So they just have to come in and they they get it. And I think it's
023a great um step forward in helping our families especially get close to the holidays. >> And we're going to get worse. Um the benefits there's a new depos child above the age of 14. >> So um it's 14 and below now 14y old 15y old. What about um the first question? Is there going to be a template today? >> Yes. >> Ly posted on Facebook answering that that it would be the 21st. Yes. Um, and I don't want to go into too much of this um stuff just because we have our uh students, but we're going to if it's okay with the board, if we can kind of go back and forth because some of the answers to a lot of the stuff that were mentioned um are also in here. I do want to
024point out that coach Max came in to talk about the um resolution. So, she had inquired about it. Miss Jennis um I and I'll say I asked Miss Jennis if she could lead up to the board. So she came up with the resolution and last um at the last board meeting um I say I mentioned about something already being in place. So we went back again um thank and I'll thank Miss she investigated a whole lot. Um so there was a resolution that was made in in 2021. Um it was signed by Miss um Amanda Bissell was a board president and I believe yesa was the >> I mean >> Cherrya was the secretary. >> We're renaming her. Oh, wait. What? >> Sure. >> Um, sorry. >> So, it came to it had already came
025to the board. It was already approved um on November 16th of 2021. And in the resolution, it does state that that money um goes to the current high school students and junior students to to be divided between them uh equally. And I do have it attached to my board. If you click on it, it opens it up for you. Um, it says activity account balance be divided and transferred after all expenses have been paid between the accounts of next uh seniors and junior classes. >> So that was that was not mentioned. So that does not know about that. >> No, not yet. We're going to be meeting with her about that. >> Well, we'll have to let her know. Um it was adopted and approved on the 16th of November 2021. Can I comment on
026that as this time? Is there um not that I'm you know not for seniors and seniors right now but um is there any way that we as a as a board or or the new the board in January whatever we can amend it to see like this way it's not just a two classes it could be like four classes or you know such and such. Is that is this a one time thing? This this particular um resolution. So well not a one time thing. So this is this is how it would be. >> So last year's senior money goes back to the juniors or seniors the current juniors or seniors. So all all of class of and I don't know how many how far back we had to go that money would then get divided
027um between both seniors and governors. >> So it's just a one time thing >> but it would happen for all the monies that were present >> and it would continue to happen. So >> then what would happen for the money that they >> for the seniors this year will then go to the juniors and seniors of >> so it is ongoing >> unless you but it is possible to question. I guess why was it decided in this way that it would seniors? >> What I would think is that when it was presented and maybe this was what was discussed and this is what the board at the time decided to do was made more sense for it to go to influence and so they made that decision and um it was adopted. >> So has
028all this this has already been happening. So this is the first this is the first >> because um Miss the coach um brought it back up to us. So when we we went back to try to do the class of this and then it was brought to our attention. No, this has already been approved and they said the kindergarten class um but when we pulled it out, is this what we've done? >> So is this something that we're going to approve today? >> No, it's just letting me know that this is something that has already been adopted and has already been approved. So, and this is what it states. And I'm going to look at you. I've never had I mean to >> it could be I mean I think it at least up for
029discussion >> to decide why was it why was it chosen this way and then the reasoning as to why could it be shared amongst others. If I may, I guess my only caution that I would give the board is that think about anything that you guys are approving now. Um, including policy and do we want it to continue to change every time it's been approved and then a different board comes up? Are we going to be >> changing it every single time? And then do we have consistency with what's the cool to I don't know you guys this would be the >> question for James that money that was raised for the elementary basketball team >> they still have that money right >> no have been entered everything still >> as well as the chair
030it's all So the so the elementary athletic team does have money. >> Yeah, they raised a lot of money last year. >> The girls we need to say that the girls raised a lot >> quite a bit. >> Okay, I know this is a lot, so I just like to move forward with it. We could talk about it more in depth at a later time. >> Okay. >> Maybe because I'm I'm not I'm not sure >> more information. >> We'll let you know. I can send I'll let you do some homework on that. I'm gonna say yes, you guys probably can, but I also want to >> caution then everything that you guys are approving now. >> How much was it? >> I think it was 4,000. I didn't hear I didn't hear. >> I
031wrote down what she said. >> Yeah. 4700 >> for what? >> By the girls. >> No, no, no, no. >> Oh, >> how much money? >> Oh, 12 >> from back in 2011. >> Oh, that's >> how much 4700 >> 4700. >> Oh, that's what's in the 12 to present baby. Okay. >> Oh, >> okay. The girl raised >> the raised life. they brought in a lot. I'm going to um like I said, I'll go back and forth because there's a couple of things in here that I'm I need to go back and forth on it, which is just take some time. Um at this time, um >> we're going to go to item six, report, financial report. Um to stand any questions. Did everyone get a chance to read the I do have questions.
032Um there were two parallel cycles in the month of October. Um the first one stated um total wages were in the amount of $93,94628. The second one was in the amount of $100,200 $1,217.80 80s, a total increase of $6,27152. >> So, we have um like when the season ends, we have to pay the coaches their >> Okay. >> And then now you'll see like moving forward like with all of the student um employees, it's going to go it's going to fluctuate >> and there's quite a bit of them. We have >> I think the last count was 57 58 students that were facing Yeah, I'm really really proud of it. But please know that you're going to see that on your end, but it's also coming out of the ground. >> It'll start this this
033so you guys see. >> And then another question. I'm not too sure if I'm reading this wrong, but um where it said athletics fund, it was in parentheses. Is that a negative? >> So the athletics fund is negative $29,000 right now. >> So what happens, Miss Caroline? So what happens is he has to put in his POS ahead of time. So like all of the appeals for the student travel has already been encumbered. >> So then now we're just waiting. We're hoping that the concession and ticket sal balance it out. But right now they're showing the negative because we've already encumbered all those >> and usually the concession I'm going to say we've had very good sales brings that up. Um, Miss Jenn said, "Let us know." I'm just >> I did my homework this
034time. Actually, I have a few questions. Um, >> I also noticed a decrease in amount of $293 in fruits and vegetables. Um, will this affect the cafeteria? >> Yeah. So, every year, um, PED was decrease or increase um, not notices. This one it was only 293, but yeah, it does affect our our freshman. We're lucky too much but still handicap. >> And one more question. Are there any anticipated uh changes for the budget budget with the based on the district spending? >> I'm going to say yes. Um sorry. >> Yes, I will be because we're going to um spoken to I haven't spoken to you yet, Miss Jennis. I am sorry. Um to surprise you. Um, first off, um, I mentioned about our ELA teachers. So, that's something that we didn't add to the budget.
035Um, and then something else that we're going to be doing is we're going to hire a long-term sub to support to support Miss Nurse. I'm correct. >> Yes. So, we have a medically fragile student and >> we have two very different situations at two different schools. Um and one of them because they're both um federal in their own and HIPPA um there's no way she if an emergency should happen um with both of them at the same time. Um there and I apologize I just didn't happen any at the end of the day. Um there's no way that we're going to be able to support both sides at the same time. Um, and when it comes, we're gonna say of all of our students, she's a district provided nurse, so she is working. Um, she
036checks students and we she's just tied up with that one, then it's bad for her to get to the other ones. And with our current situation, we can say we need her we need somebody to assist with that. But so we're not going to hire an assistant nurse. We're going to hire a long time. Go ahead. >> They're not going to have like medical. >> They will they will have uh they will be trained on how >> will they be a nurse or >> not a nurse but they will be trained on how to deal with the medically fragile student because that will be their main concern. >> Specific. Okay. Thank you. >> Um, and I don't have anything to report from the finance committee who's asked the same questions you did. >> All right.
037>> Madam chair, at this time I ask for approval of consent items. Um, the payable vouchers, the payables, and the bars. I see further recommendation by the superintendent. Is there a motion? >> Motion by Miss Saga. Do I hear a second? Second. Second by Miss Martinez. Madam Secretary, please do a roll call. >> Mr. Jason Gonzalez, >> yes. >> Miss Patricia Martinez, yes. Miss Monique, yes. Miss Caroline Grant. Yes. Miss Wen Simolo. >> Yes. >> Okay. Motion carries to approve the consent items. >> Madam Chair, at this time um looking at presentations and discussions and I did not reach out to um Mr. Cost. Um we're looking at moving from class double A to class A. Uh let's see if I send it to him. So let me I don't know if he wants to
038get on or >> it's based off of schools. >> We're looking at classes right now. We're a class A. So we've been stepping up um I'm going to say for quite some time right as of now um any of this but um so a lot of the superintendent uh we've been discussing um based on some of the events that happened last year. So, we've been meeting quite frequently um on um anything dealing with athletics and all of that other good stuff. And some of the recommendations that were made were it would benefit all of um all of the smaller districts and how it was stated in the north uh to go down to um and class down to a um now I will let you know that this would include mora escalante d um and
039our rel um in the district >> in in our area. Yes. >> Okay. >> Um this is not something so I will also let you know that um Dusty Young and I don't know what his role is. >> Dusty director. >> Yeah, he's the director. >> The director. >> He's just a friend at this point. um he had asked for a recommendation and at the time this some of this hadn't been shared like yes but this is how we're going to move forward. Um so we had told him that we would stay in doublea so we want to bring it to you. We brought it to our all of our coaches yesterday. It seemed like there they were all in agreement. Um I didn't have it. I mean if what I heard yesterday was that
040um if all of the other districts surrounding districts were going to do it then they they were okay with that as well. >> This would take place next year or for next season >> 26 27 school year. >> This I believe this no this year. >> Yeah. >> Don't ask me all the don't ask me those hard questions. >> Um and I'll let Mr. if there's anything that you want to say about it. >> Yeah, I mean conversations that Miss Gonzalez has superintendent and I've uh I've talked to some ads. Uh the consensus is all of us with the exception of Mccertie are 1A size and we're not even big 1ACO. We are a average size 1A and we've been playing up for years as 2A by choice because we wanted to have maintained our
041traditional you know rivalries right like it means a lot to play Messa and Bora and so on >> because we would have had to have traveled to like >> so now if everybody moves together all those traditional like games stay in place Um, obviously it'll change some of our our non district scheduling because we'd want to prioritize getting to play against some of those schools like Grady and Logan. Like the student population there is different. They're large kids. >> That's right. >> So, we want to play against them and get some experience. >> Yes. >> But also, um, like there are schools that are our size as opposed to say POS or Stoa or Jaw. those those schools are four or five times our size. >> So I have a question. So when you go
042to So it's going to change when you go to region district or state it's your whole racket's going to change right? >> Uh it would all change except for cross country. Cross country is already 1 A 2A but for everything else when you go to state then you are competing against 1A schools as opposed to >> 2 which and I don't know if you could talk a bit about how that leads us. >> Sure. You know, so last year both of our basketball teams were one of the last three teams out of the state tournament. If we had been 1A, we would have been one of the last three teams in the state tournament. >> Exactly. >> Generally speaking, in track, the top runners in every class are competitive with everything. But say 3, four,
043and five, uh, our kids would have they would have done very well in 1A. Um, and so 2A is one of the most competitive track classes that there is. 2A tends to be as competitive as 3 and 4A. Volleyball, baseball, it's tough because like you saw with Springer that we played this year, they're 1A, but they're really good. And so 1A and baseball and volleyball tend to be pretty competitive with 2A. And so basketball uh we would be competitive. >> So once we're switched to 1A, can we go back to 2A? >> How does that work? >> They reclass every three or four years. I forget which one. Um, I don't I I don't honestly I don't know how it works whether we can because we've been 2A we've been able to choose to remain
0442A. I don't know if you can ask to go up to 2A from a bigger if our district got bigger. >> I think we naturally right now the cut off is 99 students >> and we're at 74. So that >> I encourage you all to go go that'd be great. 74 kids in our high school. >> So right in there. >> is there any financial like is there any financial gain or loss to moving to 1A? >> It doesn't really matter, right? >> Because because our district would remain mostly the same. We would lose mccertie because they're twice our size. They have I think I don't know 180 kids in their high school. Um, so we might pick up the district might pick up like a Coronado or a Simon district something like that. >>
045But so it hurt to travel district. No. Um, we might want to travel I mean I mean this year we're already traveling to Clayton. I mean you can't get a further away than that. So if we wanted to go four hours well you can but like >> Clayton's a long trip. If we wanted to travel to say Logan or Melrose or Fort Sner it's about the same. So maybe a little bit more in travel costs. I would say not too much more. >> And that would be across all volleyball, basketball, >> everything. The only exception is football, but we don't they class differently in football. >> And I don't I don't anticipate us adding a football team anytime soon. I had to share with some students who were asking about it would cost us between
046$50 and $100,000. doesn't have a science. >> Yeah. And it's there's lots of reasons. >> I was going to say >> and all the coaches when this one's also the coaches, all the coaches were, you know, were on board. There's some disappointment because there's some pride for playing for 28 obviously. I mean, it's been forever. Yeah. >> Um but I think it's everybody was on board >> and we had talked to other districts. So um Mr. N and I divided and conquered to make sure because we're like it's just coming from one person and not coming from everyone but um and I think we spoke to all of the surrounding districts. I think we got everyone covered and um they're all leaning to the same thing. Um, I just wanted to make sure that I
047let you guys know this. You guys are also athletes. >> We could have a six month football team. We only need 89 students. >> Well, Escal has zero to 89 students. >> Escalante was like state in football a couple years ago. >> They do have eight men. >> Escalante and and Quest play eight man. >> Uh, it's hard. I will say that uh they travel literally the distance of the state. to like slow down. >> Um, >> and Navajo Pine, the other challenge is they have a lot of uh forfeits are common man football because you like, you know, you three kids get hurt your entire team and then um they have a lot of challenges with teams that barely make a field a team and so they can hit like 56 to nothing scores
048and that's a halftime score. You can stop playing. >> Yeah. So you can imagine you had to travel all the way to two snow at less. Have we ever been a one for basketball? >> We've always been 28 >> cuz I know for baseball >> when I was in school we were 38. >> That was a long time ago. >> 2A when we were when >> 85. >> I want to say we were 38 when I was in high school. >> How many kids you undergraduate in class? >> 89. You have you have 75. >> You graduating class. Uhhuh. 98 89 students. >> 898. >> Wow. Yeah. No, there was 98. >> The top of 2A right now is 250 students in the high school. So, POS and Santa Rosa have about 245. >> Um,
049>> I'm going to say that that was probably when this district had there was three home rooms when I was in seventh grade. >> So, that tells you how many students we had. level. >> Um, would you see foresee any challenges in scheduling with district with out of district opponents that do not want to play 1A schools because we're now in a 1A status? >> Um, I'm doubtful. Uh, I think that uh I mean I would anticipate always playing Mccertie and I think there's some pride, a little bit of rivalry there. Um, we already play like this year in basketball we're in tournaments. We're in the Ben S4 schools. We're in the West Las Vegas Nets, 2A and 3A schools. Um, in that tournament in particular, sometimes 1A schools come in and mop it up
050and so I I don't think so. And if you could remind me the NRD tournament is that >> it is currently all 2A schools but almost every school except for POS and mccertie talking about dropping one that's just recently is now on the committee um uh lots of schools have been part of that Santa Fe Indian was Espanola was um three years >> and so it's it's mostly a geographic tournament and I think I can't envision I brought this up with another 80. We can't envision it in Argent whoever you know hosts NRGs. So >> it's prestigious. I mean it's a it's a fun to be a part of. Thank you, Michelle. Thank you, Miss out there. >> No, we're not ready yet. >> Thank you. Um, I do want to let you know that
051as soon as you guys know this with my phone. >> Good evening. Good morning. >> Good morning. >> Good evening, guys. Thanks for getting us in here, >> especially on short notice. >> No, I'm gonna say not short notice. Um, and I appreciate your um, email and I appreciate you and your representatives um, and your sponsor coming to you. >> Yeah, it's all yours, girl. I want to say thank you for waiting to I do appreciate that. >> Of course. Of course. So, uh, for uh, for those of you that don't know me, I'm Roelle Lopez, president of the senior class of 2026. I'm Kayatio. I'm the vice president of the class of 2026. >> My name is Angelie Domius and I'm the class treasurer of the class of 2026. >> My name is Wesley
052Vill and I'm the class secretary. My name is Steph and I'm just the student. >> Just an FYI, you probably don't know you guys. I hope you guys are ready. You'll be uh planning your um reunions. Yeah, that's true. Long long ways from here, right? So, um we came before you guys today to respectfully request uh black cap and gowns for our graduation. Um we'd also like to think our school colors, which are blue, so it's not going to be completely black. So, we wanted the stools to be blue with gold outline and our castles technically be blue and gold as well. Uh, we know that in the past classes have been mainly blue, but we kind of just want to make our graduation special and unique. We're not trying to change anything about the
053school. We respect our colors and that's why we want to include them in here. And, uh, we're a small class. There's only 14 of us and we feel like Yeah. >> So we feel like we could kind of just make an impact on just doing this. Uh I know we emailed superintendent and Miss Martinez on the fact about maybe a month ago uh just to ask about the approval and Miss Caroline Grant and they all agreed. They said that they were fine with it. I mean as long as we did include our colors. Um, I do have those emails. >> Yeah. Yeah. Um, I just want to highlight too our class funds. We you guys don't have to worry about paying them as well because we you have the money for it. I mean, unless
054you want to offer, but uh yeah, so it wouldn't change anything moneywise. Um, >> and boys and girls will wear black. >> Yeah. Well, >> because in the past like some girls will wear the girls will wear gold and the boys will wear blue. >> I was going to get to that. So, we only have three girls in our so it wouldn't really match if we tried to do girls and boys. So, we would just do it all one color. >> And uh if for some reason you guys do not approve of this request, we do have a backup plan. So, uh, we wanted to go white with the blue and gold, too, or the traditional blue. We just feel like it's a I don't know, some good colors there. We have white incorporated in
055our jerseys, too, like the sports. So, we thought that that would be fine. Thank you. Well, I was going to say, yeah, your request is disapproved. Back to the plan. Um, We just hope we just hope you guys have come to this request. We are um we we've been committed since we uh thought of it. Um some of us weren't here today. They said they're going to be here. Apologies for that. Um I'm not going to tell you give you a whole rundown of the soft story. You know, you guys um heard the story. Yeah. Um, I think black having gouts look cool because black is the new cool. We need more diversity, I think, in our school. Uh, >> appreciate that, guys. my president and vice president have said um blue gold is a
056tradition and stuff and we know that school is built on traditions and stuff and we are not trying to take that away from the school's history or anything like that. We just feel that through our time in high school we have gone through a lot of diversity and a lot of challenges. I mean we never got to get a middle school introduction or anything like that. We're just so into it. And now going through high school, I mean, a lot of us have made a lot of big commitments. I mean, like our vice president and our president are one of the smartest people in our school and our secretary is also one of the smartest people in school. So, I feel like through our class, we have made a lot of contributions to the school
057and we just want to do something that's special to us and we hope you guys can respect that. Yeah, to add on to that, um I don't really have anything else to say other than what color is a panther? A panther is black, so it would only make sense. >> I don't know why else you deny it. And it would also be like we're like little cubs if you think about it. We're little cubs getting put into the real world, graduating to be a full adult kind of like we're asking for pink at the end. >> Yeah. Hey, I think I'm really pink. We thought about it. I don't know if you guys noticed the rocks that say 26. They're pink, aren't they? And >> I don't I don't really have anything else to say.
058They pretty much did everything. I mean, black is like pretty much the new like whole feet. It fits everyone. It fits like everyone wears black. So, yeah. I don't think there's ever been black and brown that I've known. I say you guys made me do my homework. I actually had to go um and I'm not just me and I'm missing it really help me a whole lot. Um we have to go back all the way to 2016. You guys made me do a lot of work here. Um, so I do want to let the board know that this um, request has come to the board um, 2016. I think there was like a 2018. There's been several of them. Um, 2020. The last one or the latest one was 2022. Um the motion there was
059approved by Miss Symbolo um second by Miss Martinez and the recommendation was to create a graduation policy to address colors for graduation. Going to just refresh you guys uh your guys' memory a little bit. Um what was recommended was um approval of the colors of white and the cat and gown. That's all it says. Um, in my homework, you guys make me work. Um, it seems like the policy, I mean, it says that it was to create a policy, but policy was never created. Um, I do have a couple of recommendations. Uh, my first recommendation was we can move forward with I'm going to say that we move forward um developing some type of policy. This way, um, it ensures clarity and consistency. this way it doesn't keep coming to the board. Um, with the
060policy or with that being stated, um, I'm going to say I would suggest including um, language within the policy that specifies approved colors such as blue, black, I mean, sorry, I was thinking about the panther, blue, gold, white, or black. um just because those are kind of the colors that represent Piasco in a lot of our shirts. As you can see, they're black, blue, uh gold, white, or we have an or because I also think it's important um to see all of you guys up here advocating um including your class sponsor for the colors that you guys want. So, we could do the first one or I recommend that we have a sec or a different policy that states that graduation colors may be determined by the graduating class and their sponsors allowing flexibility while
061maintaining school immediately. Um, those are my recommendations. I correct the recommendations of our students. um I said I think if there's a policy this is going to come up. It's been coming up um several years already and there's no policy as of yet. It's 2016 that I would suggest that we we could create the policy. It includes the language that um includes the school colors, blue, gold, white or black. Um or giving that autonomy to our students to decide. >> So we we're not making a an approval today, but they do need to move forward. Do you need to how soon do you need to know? >> So our plans were to get them ordered before Christmas just because of pictures. Uh, we also need measurements. We need to start measuring ourselves quick and then
062graduation quick. You guys know that. And we don't want anything to get delayed. So that's why you want to order them right away, especially now. >> And if they do get delayed, sorry. I say we push back graduation a week. >> Missing school, aren't you? I don't know. >> Um, you mentioned that you're going to incorporate our traditional school colors in viewers or are you going to do that without the use of stoalls or ports? >> Um, we can customally design that. I mean, we can even dress in blue attire instead of white. So, if we have black, we could dress like a do dress, a do button up, you know, stuff like that. >> The stos will be blue. But we found custom stoalls where we can do all blue um with gold. We
063can also get gold lettering, you know, classic 2026, all of that. Um we also have the option to get plain blue and gold um tassels or blue and gold and white tassels. So we've we've actually gone online and looked at what we can and can't order to go along with it. >> So I know it's a challenging question because usually if you wear blue, you have a yellow stole. If you wear yellow, you wear a blue stole. So again, how are you going to incorporate your traditional uh colors without incorporating them into your stoalls or your tassels? >> Like I said, we could wear the blue and top. >> Okay. >> Because it's like the only way. >> And then our gym and everything will also be blue and gold. Our decorations for sure are
064going to be blue and gold and white. So, it's going to show in the gym. It's not just going to be water. >> I know that this is um up for it's under discussion, but because there was a policy that had already or a motion that had already been made, I'm going to miss a net. This is going to be another question. Since a policy was not made and it's not under approval, can we make that? >> I I'm not sure that a school board needs to um colors for them. I mean, >> I mean, I don't I think my my opinion if if we don't approve it, then every class can say, I want to wear pink or green or orange or yellow, >> right? And that's that's one thing that that's part of
065the reason that they're here is because that class of 2020 and everything that like classes in the past, I think it was class of 2018, um 2020, I don't think 2020 was really a big deal because it was COVID and everything else. So everything kind of fell through. But I was the sponsor for those classes as well that have come back and asked for this request. And I was also in Mon'nique's class back in the day when we asked to wear pink and black. So you have to So we have been on both sides of this. >> That's why when you said pink, I was like we >> we did request pink and black. That has happened in the past. So I'm just just throwing that out there. >> Completely. So >> tonight >> well
066>> my suggestion and I know I don't know what to say but maybe my suggestion would be because I in doing helping you to do the research madam um superintendent, I found that they were actually ordering already by now their caps and gowns >> because we probably want to do so >> what you could do is like agree and then bring policy at the next board meeting and yeah, >> we can agree >> or you can agree at next board meeting. It doesn't have to be policy. It can be like it happened here in 2022. There wasn't policy, but there was a vote to go ahead and um and recommended approval of wine and gold colors even though there wasn't a policy. And that's what you guys could do in December, but I my suggestion
067is >> on that >> pending. Yeah. To allow pending. That's what you guys would like to do to approve at that time. I don't get the wording very well. >> My question is why do you guys want black other than it being cool? >> Color of panther >> and the color of panther. What other reasons? Why? Why does black just Why do you guys want black? >> We feel like it >> because being cool is not a good enough answer. >> Good. Blue has been everyone's uh designated, you know, color and we want to change it up a little bit. I feel like uh we need to do something special and that's why we're here to fight for I think it like show >> um I mean we could have chosen any color like orange,
068pink like you guys said, but we felt like black has been used widely across this school. Like example, our shirts, a lot of our uniforms, even for basketball, I know this year we're getting black uniforms. So, we felt like it would match best with our school and other values that we have here. I feel like I have a question for >> Oh gosh. For everybody that's up here, you need a minute. >> What are our designated school colors currently? Does it incorporate black? Way back when back in my day, we were in blue and old gold. >> Me too. Me too. >> And then it started changing and I don't know when it became yellow, which I'm not great on yellow. >> As you can tell, there's the old gold right there. >> I'm just
069wondering where current school colors are. Like does it have >> Sorry. Um, sorry to interrupt you, but we were gonna include the old gold, not the yellow in our blue. >> See how beautiful that is? >> Yeah. >> We thought that it represented because we've always known our colors as blue and gold. Never, you never hear anyone say blue and yellow. And it just kind of caught us all off guard and why most of our things are yellow and when that happened. So, we thought going back to old like values there. I mean it also could bring the community back together. I mean we had a lot of elderly people uh in our community coming to our games or sports events and I think just seeing that alone maybe to show them like you know
070we're changing as a school we're improving and through the kids like our voice. So as long as we uh speak our mind you know that will only be better for the school in the long run. I would like to say no matter what what the bullet chooses, I want to commend every single one of you for coming here or being articulate, being professional, um giving your thoughts and um just being able to speak in front of a group of people that are sitting up higher than you and um I just appreciate you being here >> for sure. >> We appreciate you guys for giving us this opportunity to, you know, stand up speaker. >> So I know that we can't do approval but maybe a suggestion um see you heard the suggestion of um our
071presenters today. Um so it looks like they made a motion in this previous one. >> So the one that was previously done. So >> it's a motion. So the motion was made um by Miss Simo and um seconded by Miss Madam Chair is that this isn't even our action item. >> The only saying that's what they did last time. >> Um >> so we we cannot do an approval because it's not an action item. But just like >> a suggestion, >> just like we've had to in the past sign on a on a resolution um >> because it's time sensitive that is where you guys could come back and make it official and in the December meeting. >> So you're you're saying vote tonight, but then we come back and make it official in the
072next we can vote. You can't vote, >> but you can. >> So, couldn't we come back and have a special board meeting to to have this discussion, put it as approval item um sooner than later, maybe like in the next week or so, like we've done in the past for other subjects. >> We could maybe Zoom next week. >> Yeah. Over Zoom. >> We could do it the week of December 2nd because next week is Thanksgiving. Yeah, I was just thinking, you know, share your food, >> right? >> If it's Thanksgiving, then we'll bring >> Are we invited? I was just going to say you add it to your agenda for next meeting and then you the language of what the agenda item is. Um it's not voting on but you're just making a motion
073to add it to your agenda as an action item which then allows the board to vote on or move through the process of creating a policy. policy needs to be >> reviewed and read and all of those things. But it would >> which would then give at least the directive of the board and then allow for the students to >> So even if we had a special meeting, it has to go through two different readings. So do we really want to have I guess this is a question that I I'll present to the board. Do we want to have a policy um for that or do we want it to come? I mean, this is also a great opportunity for our students um to advocate. >> Well, I don't mind them advocating for their school
074colors. You know, by all means, use whatever school colors you want. And if your flower is orange, pink, blue, green, whatever. I do think that it's important that we set policies for tapping down our school colors. and the you could vote on that on the colors to approve the colors and then follow up with policy after that. >> Yes. >> So we're we're saying >> just like Miss Martinez looks like there should be a range of colors to choose from. >> So those are the colors that I mentioned blue and I guess we should say all gold. >> Yes. white and black >> because all all those colors are part of >> um I am >> he still doesn't have a line. Oh, I have one more question. Okay. What sets your class apart from
075everybody else's that's going to come and present to to us about different classes. I was going to say that but you guys proved that wrong. >> There's 14 of those. Don't go backwards. >> I know. >> I think every class has at least 20 more or above. A lot of our classmates have transferred out of the soldier district to tales. we've lost a lot to that and it just kind of shows how committed we are to our school and how much potential we see that we could have and I won't lie I had an opportunity to leave like my freshman year up until this year like I was still considering it but I stayed because I love this place and I value it and its traditions and I think that I would have rather graduating
076the people I grew up with than any other random people that I don't even know where I'm just a number. I don't want to be just a number. >> So, okay. >> For me, I I'm okay with it. Um, as long as you incorporate um the school colors, you know, um you earned it. You're going to walk you're the one that's going to walk down the the gym. You earned that diploma. Um, so for me, I'm okay with it, but I can't vote right now, but for me, I appreciate you coming in and discussing why you choose those colors. And um, we want you guys to speak up. This is your school. So, definitely thank you for coming in and um, long as you incorporate the school colors mentioned, I'm definitely fine with that. >>
077Thank you. >> Your consideration, >> I wish I was stated. We can state it that way. We again we mention that we cannot make a formal vote tonight. We can say >> since it needs two readings with a special board meeting be reading one. So the pol so the policy will need um naturally the policy will need two readings um but the approval can go next under a special portion >> wanted to order these by just for Christmas break >> they need to do it because >> yeah orders really do take >> what's the latest thing you guys called your I did not order anything. >> They tried but then we had to research and all >> because they didn't >> January is too late. >> Yeah. But if we had a special board meeting
078and then we had our other one that would be two meetings. >> I don't like special board meeting on Zoom board conference conference on the 32. Are you going >> All right. So, um I let um >> So, is what do you support? >> Yeah. Is I was going to ask is everyone in support of >> what do you Yes. What are you guys supporting? What are your thoughts? >> I think that we should have our sec uh special board meeting and create a policy on colors. Um, I support the blue and gold downs. I think that these guys might get a special consideration just because of the time crunch and it would be okay for them to have a black gown this time. But I think we do need to make a policy and
079get a consensus of our colors so that way this won't keep coming uh to the board. I am also I'm very traditional. Not that I don't support you guys. I think if Jason says there's an exception here, there's a special request. Um, but I do think we need to have a second board meeting um to come up with a, you know, consensus of of class colors moving forward. And I'm supportive of black because I feel like it is part of I mean it just seems to be flowing with all the the the gear that is bought for sports um or anything that's bought uh the shirts that come in that is purchased. There's all I think the majority of them are black as long as it has the the blue and the gold. What about
080you, Gwen? >> So, um just like Jason said, um I feel that we should have the special board meeting to go over the policy um and have the two readings. However, a special consideration being that it isn't in the policy already that we should consider allowing them to have black um and then putting into policy. But, you know, I commend you students for coming out in front of all of us like the rest of everyone, all the rest of the board has said, you know, it takes a lot for you to come advocate for yourself and your peers. So, good job. And um yep, that's what I feel. Thank you. Um, so I at this time would like to just thank all of you for coming out, advocating um, as Miss F said, advocating for
081yourselves, advocating for your class. Um, Miss Cordova, I thank you. I know that it's already late and you stayed with um, your students as a class sponsor. So, I appreciate you coming out as well. Um, you guys kind of heard uh, what the board has stated. So, we will come back in. We will make sure that we put this in policy. We'll have a special board meeting. We'll talk about that later. Um, with future meetings, I think I did future meetings on >> I don't remember if I see saw that on there or not. But we'll next we created the whole agenda. Um sorry you kind of heard what the support is. Um and maybe because you know there's not a policy right now. Um we will keep you posted I will um as president
082I will communicate directly with you or I'll have Miss Martinez communicate with you um either with you or with M. Well, uh, once again, thank you guys for your time and consideration, and we hope to hear from you soon. >> Thank you guys. >> Thank you for coming in. >> Have a good night. >> Good night. Bye guys. >> I will show you. We ended so hard here and we got different ones. >> See, I I don't know if we can continue to talk to this, but I think that the sponsors of that the the that year should be the ones to >> decide, not the board. I mean there needs to be of course there's guidelines and if you did would pick something crazy. >> Yes. >> I guess if I trust too much
083then I guess I trust him too. >> I I don't know. I'm traditional. I like the blue and gold up option also like for the girls or >> I do like what they said though. You know the old gold. I I respect that because our gym boards are not even I don't even know clearly know about anything but they're not old. What I do like is it brings them here and yeah to come and talk to us about it like >> I think and that they're able to articulate it because they're cool >> but I think they would get in this year. >> Yeah, I agree. And I'm just gonna say I also like >> I do have to say I don't know how you argue with that one. >> So excuse me to graduation.
084>> Um Madam Chair um and board members at this time and I apologize that I know this is quite a bit. Um we do have our data presentations because they were on our your guys' calendars as um part of our calendar and I guess a part of my evaluation as well. I do want to make sure that I state to the board that you're not going to see a lot of data um more probably from the elementary than you will from intermediate, middle school, and high school just because our testing window doesn't happen until January. Um, so it's a little bit difficult to put your December. >> Oh, sorry. December. I have two different dates on my calendar. Sorry, December. Thank you, Mr. Goodway. >> No problem. >> So, just with that being stated, I
085So, they do have their presentations. They do um they're going to uh talk as to where they're at with their action items and all of that stuff. They will be coming back to the board in January to give a brief update with um the data for >> middle well for elementary for intermediate third um fifth and then middle school high school um just to show you the growth >> Mr. on this. >> Does that mean we should change the calendar that way? >> I would say as um >> that way we can actually get >> the future. I'm going to say for end of the year I'm going to say absolutely we want to make sure that it coincides with >> when our testing is >> when testing is >> and we don't always get
086that information right away so we can guesstimate. I mean, for now, we kind of know where it is because you get it at the beginning of the year, but when we're creating the calendar, I'll say in the future, like for next year, um those are dates that we may have to adjust as we move forward. Um M Miss Sanchez, can you pull up Mr. Good's and um Mr. Goodle is I apologize for not being he's not here in person, but he is online. Thank you, Mr. Glay. Um he's he wasn't feeling very well today. But I appreciate >> Thank you everybody and I I apologize uh for not being there in person. Like Miss Gonzalez said, I've been under the weather uh yesterday and today I have whatever bug is currently making its way through
087our hallways. So, um, when we presented this or when I presented this data back in, I believe it was September, um, I stated to everybody that our platform for kinder through 2 grade had just changed over from Istation to Amira uh, at the time. So all of our kinder through 2 grade were new to the test. Teachers were learning how to um get students logged in. That whole works. If you can imagine in Miss Beill's kindergarten class, there's 18 kids or 19 kids. Um trying to get 19 kiddos logged in and get working is rather difficult. And so at the beginning of the year, if you take a look, you can see that um in kindergarten especially, we had plenty of red first grade as well. We had a new teacher on board at that
088time. um since those initial tests in um August and September uh to the most recent tests in November, we can see a dramatic increase in students who have um either become proficient or are nearing proficient. Um part of that is first off learning the platform itself. Students now know and understand how to get through the test. Um, our kindergarten class at the beginning of the year was having um some uh difficulties with the computers that they had at the time. Uh we're fortunate enough that the prek class had some other touchscreens in which Amira is able or is compatible with. So our kindergarten class has been using the prek um Chromebooks. And so, um, when I pulled this data last week so that I could send it over to Miss Sanchez and Miss Gonzalez, um,
089you can see there on the November, uh, update off to the right, it says not all students have tested. Amamira went through a, um, they had some glitches and that was, uh, throughout the state of New Mexico. And so, I was in contact with Amira. Those students have since tested. However, because I uh submitted this last week, um not all students are in there currently. But like I said, you can see that number um or those numbers have changed drastically over the course of these three months. Um this is for reading. This current slide is for reading. Miss Sanchez, if you go to the next slide, um this is for um this is math and at the beginning of the year, like I said, our first and second grade were able to get all their
090tests completed um in se or in August. Uh kinder was not until September. So that's why I had to pull the graph off to the side. It's a little bit different. Um but we see some of the same trends. So the difference in level one and two students uh that number has drastically decreased. Um you know kindergarten at the beginning of the year we were only looking at seven students who were near or above proficient. Um now in November we were at 14 students. Um first grade has moved up by one student and second grade by eight students. So I believe it is a testament to not only our students getting in there doing the work learning but our teachers you know providing that highquality instruction to them um using all the tools at their
091advantage to be able to get through to the students and ensure that they are progressing um in the direction we want them to go. Uh Miss Gonzalez stated that our uh third, fourth, and fifth grade will not have any updates to their um data just because their middle of year testing will take place in December. Um we'll do that prior to going on break. So we don't see any regression during the break. Um but through some of the tools and they're listed in our action item or in my action items and such. Um >> we've started SFA tutoring. We've started uh our tutoring program with Embudo Valley Tutoring Association and all those combined with the hard work that our teachers are um providing in the classroom. Um I know that our maps data will show
092an increase uh in the January update. So in September I provided action steps. Um the ones on the left are the action steps that I had provided in September. Like I mentioned the um progress is off to the right in red. So early on in the year we had some professional development in um actually analyzing data. Our teachers met for three or four hours with a um lady from is it rec Gonzalez? >> Yes. >> Um Vicky she showed us how to do a data dive and how we were able to target those students who were nearing proficient so that we could um really assist them in getting over that hump. how we are going to target those students who were barely proficient and how we would keep them above that proficient level and then
093how we are going to target the rest of our students to ensure that um they don't drop or even if our lowest level performing students are still improving as the year goes on. Um we provided um training to our substitute teachers on SFA. Um, in fact, they really enjoyed it enough to the point where Miss Eskel, our SFA facilitator, will be providing a second training this coming Friday to our substitutes. >> Um, our sub >> I'm sorry, what was that? >> Sorry, Mr. Goodway. I was letting the board know that that was per request of our substitutes. >> Yes. And so, um, they're requesting a little bit more. So, that way when our teachers do call in, um, a lot of times the subs aren't aware of how our SFA program works. And so, we're
094able to provide them. Um, the Miss Esql sat down with all teachers and asked them what they would like to leave substitutes as far as lesson plans go. They all came to an agreement on what they would like to see. And so now all teachers kind of have that same baseline um sub plans and so our subs are able to follow that and so our students aren't missing a whole day of SFA instruction. Um I included on there that uh coach Max and I wanted to create a wellness room for the elementary staff. That is still a work in progress. However, we did get a donation from Hogs and Heers uh to be able to provide some like workout equipment in the um wellness room. And so we're working on that as well. Can you
095go back two slides, Miss Annette? Um no up. I'm sorry. Go next slide. Uh we did have a successful math and literacy night. We had a ton of people there. Um, Miss Gonzalez was there. I know Miss Annette showed up. We were talking about, we spoke about SB9 during this. Our teachers provided games for our students to um, do whether it was with reading, um, math games. Miss Null was giving out free books to all students who visited her. And so we had a huge turnout for that. All of our kiddos were dressed up and ready to have some fun. And then the next slide missing it. And I'm sorry I don't know why when I downloaded this it's not showing up correctly on my slide it shows up correctly but uh just to reiterate
096some of the things um we can clearly see some growth in our kinder first and second grade classes through the Amir Iset data provided. And like I said, I think now our teachers know Amira. They're able to um use it without any hesitation. We've had our SFA tutors have been here every day since about middle of September. Uh and Budo Valley tutoring has also come on board and they are providing tutoring to our students who we've identified who need that extra help. Um again, third and fifth third through fifth grade students will take their middle year tests in December. um and growth towards our district goal of 10% increase in proficiency is well within reach at this time of year. I think we maybe even can surpass that um you know headed into December or
097into the to the spring semester. Um and I put the action steps with no asterisk are still ongoing. So these action steps are crucial to reaching our goals throughout the year. So if you go back you can see some of them they don't have an asterisk but we are still working towards them. It's not that we forgot about them or there's no update. Um it's just those are still a work in progress and hopefully come January I could give you a little bit more of an update on those action steps. so on so forth >> professional learning what >> so it's and I'll just say it's where our teachers get together to look at data um and then develop a plan as to how to move forward and I'm going to say um and I'm
098going to say both of um my admin I'm very proud of both of you because you guys have looked taken these actions sometimes and you have moved with and I'm going to say two of you have moved with it. Um the conducting and I know he didn't talk about it but the conducting a frequent classroom visits um I like to show up randomly at both sites. Um just kind of checking to see how things are and at both sites I do see both of our um principles are always the always in the classrooms. them and say this is probably the most class visits that our teachers have received and um sometime well I was I was but I I'm glad that they're doing that. I think that holding our staff accountable is extremely important. And
099I think that you guys are both doing a very good job on holding them accountable, but not being afraid to get your hands dirty. Um, and stepping in when needed. And I think that's important and I think it speaks highly about both of you that you guys are both willing to do. Um, and this means taking um duties on. I think Mr. Gway and Miss Mafina said every morning outside doing duty. Um, cold, very cold. um they're still out there and then like I said, so I'm going to say anything that I see here, I know for a fact that it's being hit. Um but a lot of it is always going to be ongoing. It's not going to stop just because we went through this um hesitation. It's something that continues to go and
100go. Mr. Gileri, thank you. Um you've done an out outstanding job. Um does the board have any questions for Mr. today. I don't have any questions, Miss M. This is Mon'nique. I just have accommodation. Um, kudos to your successful um, literacy and math night. I I was in attendance of that and I think the whole school was there. >> I I'll uh I'll divert all of that credit to uh, Miss Escu. >> Well, please let her know on my behalf. Um, and can you just one question at your your action step that you're that their staff celebrations have taken place? Um it's it sounds like the elementary's, you know, come together like a big family, quote unquote. >> Yeah. So, >> can you our one big staff celebration that we had earlier this year was
101um I think I believe it was in early October. It was uh like custodial and maintenance appreciation week, something to that extent. And so, um the elementary staff came together. uh we all pitched in. We purchased food and celebrated our custodial and maintenance staff um during their lunch break. And so it kind of gave them that time um to celebrate with us and us to show our respect and how much we appreciate them um and all the hard work that they do to keep our facilities maintained, upkept uh for our students. >> And in addition to that um I'm going to say so our cafeteria staff as well. So, some of the things for um so the celebrations of all of our staff uh they do the monthly like a monthly cake >> birthday cake
102thing birthday cake for those that are celebrating um birthdays for that month. So, I'm we're also trying to uplift our staff and all that they do. Mr. Gord, this is Caroline. Um uh congratulations. This the data is amazing. It the you moving um your teachers moving those students out of the red is just I mean some of them are like at 30%. Uh out of the red so that is kudos to you and your staff definitely and the students. Um, are you going to be when are you going to be doing eye station again in December when you >> so Amira Amira occurs the first week of every month. >> And so when I give the January update that has um uh maps data with the middleear testing, I'll update this graph and I'll include
103the December. So it'll be September to December. Um, air scores. >> Awesome. Okay, nice work. Congratulations. Yeah, good job. >> Thank you. Any other comments? Yeah. Thank you, Mr. Gutle. >> Thank you. >> And I apologize for you having to wait. >> No worries. >> Thank you. At this time, um, I will hand it over to Miss board president, uh, members of the board, superintendent, um, I am providing my update. Um, as Mr. Guru and M Gonzalez both, um, indicated, we are in a mid cycle for testing. And so, I'm going to go back to kind of where I started my presentation um, with our beginning of year data just to kind of refresh. Um we we took our baseline data, we got our initial MAPS testing and we came up with a plan which
104was presented to the board. Um our goals to address our math and our ELA as well as our science proficiency levels. And then um we're kind of in this middle part where we're in um implementing our interventions and our monitoring. um when we get to December is when we'll do that um next cycle of assessment. So, what I wanted to share with you this evening was um our four key areas that we're focusing on at the middle school and the high school to try and address um some of those proficiency gaps as well as just other areas that are important for instruction and learning for our staff and our students. And the four that I'm going to be addressing this evening are our school culture supports, high quality instructional materials, our math and ELA vision,
105and then interventions and supports. Um, thank you. Um, one of the main areas that we need to address in any school in order to allow for learning is our school culture and our social emotional supports for our students. Um I will say that um and this is just kind of a quote from Kessle which is um one of the I would say the standard for social emotional supports in all schools and even in workplaces is that students who feel connected, engaged, supported and provided with the resources that they need in order to engage in their learning are able to actually engage in their learning. Um this includes some really key areas and these are some of the SEAL standards that go um along with our state standards which the state actually has adopted social emotional
106standards. Um we don't call it a class in most of our schools but we incorporate it into a lot of our instruction and without providing students these tools they're unable to actually engage in their learning. As we know, our kids come to us with um that backpack of unknowns. When they walk into the building, they're carrying a lot of things and if they aren't able to work through those items, they're not able to learn. And so um our focus has been really on developing some skills for our students which include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness which includes our peer interactions and our student and adult interactions as well as how do we make responsible decisions. Um those skills are naturally things that we develop over time. But I will tell you, middle school is one of
107those critical time periods when our students are navigating a whole bunch of emotions and I will say hormones and peer pure relationships. And I'm going to add into the mix um our emotional regulator which um our students used for a very very long time is no longer available to them which is the cell phone. And so a lot of those interactions with um their peers as well as with the adults um what we're noticing stem from that lack of that regulation which comes from being able to get onto your phone and look at um their social media and have those conversations. And so um there's a lot of dysregulation going along with um the lack of cell phones. it's a good thing, but we also need to know that we need to provide students those
108tools to be able to navigate that. And so, we've really been focusing on social norms um within the classroom and within the building transitioning. I will tell you that transition from elementary where students are in one single classroom to seven different eight different classes with different expectations and different norms is a huge challenge for our littles. Um, and I call them our littles because for me those are the littles. Elementary has a different definition of littles. Um, and it's also a challenge for our um, ninth graders. Typically those are crucial years for students to be able to successfully navigate middle school and high school. So, we established some classroom norms. Um, our teachers have had conversations about what that looks like and helping support our students as they transition from class to class. Um, we're
109also collaborating with TUS Behavioral Health who provides a lot of our social emotional supports for our students. Making direct connections as soon as we know that there's a need for a student, making referrals to a centro as well. Um we we have a lot of caring adults in our building and um sometimes the classroom teacher doesn't have the capacity of time to provide the additional resources and so we're trying to make those connections for our students as as we become aware of them. Um we've created behavioral improvement plans BIPS um and BIPS uh behavioral improvement plans are strategies that students can use consistently in all of their classrooms. So students who are struggling, we make sure that every teacher is aware of what those strategies are and that we're consistent in every single classroom. So
110as students are being identified, we're creating those plans um and sharing them out with the staff as well as parents because parents, we want them to understand the supports that we're providing for our students. So that includes parent meetings, phone calls, updates, check-ins, um progress reports for our students who are struggling. Um we've had student parent staff meetings. Um we're creating uh meetings that include parents and staff so that we can have conversations from multiple perspectives of how students are successful and in classrooms as well as areas where they need additional support. So um we're all having the same conversation and walking away with the same goals um as we move away for move towards supporting our students. and to build build that awareness for a lot of our students. We're doing daily check-ins um
111check-ins first period um for every single student in the building. So, every day the students are logging onto Canvas and doing a check-in for social emotional wellbeing. How are you feeling today? Sometimes it's a funny little graph that has like 12 different puppies. Some of them are sleepy, some of them are grumpy, some of them are like aggressive, growling, some of them are like playful. They get to pick how they're feeling. And the goal for this is so that students start paying attention to how they're feeling and how they're walking into a classroom. And I will tell you, one of the one of the most um I I guess hopeful things that I've seen is that staff are starting to share that information with each other. It was like I I just got a an
112email the other day of a staff member who said, "Heads up, this kiddo is having a rough day today." That was all that was said. It didn't no disclosure of any private information. It was just heads up, this kiddo is having a rough day. And every teacher who then taught that student had an awareness that this kiddo was coming in carrying a lot in their backpack for that day and was able to address how they were behaving in the classroom, how they were approaching them to get their homework done or to engage in the lesson. Those are those are really powerful things when we're we're looking at students actually being able to engage in their learning. So, um, this feeds into our discipline and our our communication with parents and students and staff. We're we're
113addressing the heart of what our students are bringing with them every single day so that they can be successful in their learning. Um, the next piece is high quality instructional materials. When we first started um the year, I put out a survey for all of our staff to tell me what curriculum are you using? Um, what are you teaching our students with? The goal is that every single classroom receives high quality instructional materials. Um, which means a couple of different things. And I just wanted to kind of share this with you. Um, high quality instructional materials means that the load and the burden that we put on our teachers is lessened. It means that the materials provide the scaffolds and supports for our special education students. It provides supports for our English language learners. It
114provides supports for our students who are probably below grade level and are not performing at proficiency. It means that they're getting standardsbased instruction and that it's grade level appropriate, that we're not going too high and we're not going too low. If it's a sixth grade standard, it's being taught that year. High quality instructional materials also provides a scope and sequence. A scope and sequence is basically telling a teacher how long they should be teaching a specific topic and it also tells them in what order they should be teaching it so that we ensure the students know the foundational material so that they can then learn the new material. So we we did a survey we found that there's gaps. Um part of our initiative u middle school high school is a grants to provide high
115quality instructional material resources so that when we adopt this year it's a math adoption um we have a better awareness of what that looks like and that we're choosing curriculum that meets the needs of our students as well as our staff. We want to make sure that what we're adopting is not something that just sits in the closet and then our staff are uncomfortable using it. Um the beauty of this grant means that we've done several self assessments. We've looked at what our gaps are middle school and high school. Um our primary focus is math because math is probably our area where we we would like to show the most growth. But we're also looking at how that translates into our English language arts as well as our science um our social studies. Those conversations
116are crosscurricular. Um, we're also looking at professional development. Um, we have a training this Friday on high quality instructional materials. We will be working on a math vision and an ELA vision, which I'll get to in just a second. But those are really important for us to all be on the same page of what do we want our students to be able to do when they come into our school, into our district. What do we want our students to be able to perform? um when it comes to any of the subjects that we're going to be teaching. Um the other piece that I think is really important um when we're talking about curriculum is implementation. Um, districts just in my experience are really good at adopting curriculum, but they struggle with the implementation piece because
117the teachers aren't provided enough support to be able to teach that curriculum and understand what their standards are and understand how do I identify gaps when my students are struggling and how do I circle back to fill in a gap without going all the way down to a second grade standard when I'm teaching nth grade. And so those are things that really require some intentional training and support for our teachers to be able to do. And that's what we're really focusing on right now with primarily math, but we're going to extend that conversation for all of our subject areas so that we can begin to identify what interventions do we actually need to provide to our students. Um and then again um as I mentioned we'll be back in April May timeline to share with
118you guys our math adoption because we do need to adopt new new curriculum. um or you go forward, miss. Uh yes. So, I do want to state that this TNT uh or the high quality instruction um grant that we received, this is the one that was I believe for 200,000. Um we have partnered up with TTP. They're the ones that are going to be looking at our instructional scope. Um, I think it's extremely important and for our teachers to know that they we have to expose our students to grade level statuters um by bringing it um down. >> Yes, thank you. >> Um we're only hurting them and we're increasing the gap every time we do that. Um this grant specifically is for middle high school. Um but because we are such a small district,
119this is going to be offered um district to district, right? Kindergarten through 12th grade. So this this will be for for everyone. And the reason that we're doing the elementary as well is that continuum of instruction needs to be in place in order for our students to build the skills they need at elementary, transition into middle, and middle to high. Because if we're doing three completely four, five, six, 10, 12 different things as kids move through their instruction, um we spend a huge amount of time with our students relearning how to learn rather than actually engaging in the learning. And then the last thing that um Miss Ming has mentioned and that is going to reiterate it in a different way. So in education we talk about Bloom's taxonomy and when our students don't have
120their basic needs met they can't be successful they can't move to the next level so basics their basic needs clothing shelter food um those have to be met do they feel safe um going to the previous one that you had uh spoke about are all of those needs being met before they can act for learning to actually take place sorry >> there was a question. >> Okay. Um, also I just want to mention with our high quality instructional materials that um, TNTP is probably one of the nation's most they're they're helping provide the um, guidance and they'll be doing coaching with our staff. Um, they're probably one of the nation's most respected organizations in looking at why students aren't performing at grade level. And if you have time, because I know we all have tons
121of time, um I would strongly recommend um looking up the opportunity gap um which is uh research that was done on why our students really aren't proficient and it provides some very insightful data as well as some paths forward which is the opportunity makers and those are two pieces of research that will be shared on Friday with our staff and we'll be using that framework to move forward as we plan for adoption, implementation, and then support for our staff with our our instructional instructional materials. Go ahead and switch. So, as I mentioned, it's important for us to have a goal and our vision and our mission. Um, and I I will say Mr. GU and we have elementary representatives as well as our math teachers middle school high school have been part of this conversation
122um in looking at why we want to develop a vision for our math and we're including our language arts because that is also one of our district goals for improving proficiency. Um and I just put a a quick blurb here. Um, it helps us all understand where we're where we're going and we all pull in the same direction. And if we all have different goals and we're all trying to teach for different reasons with different outcomes, our students are living in chaos. They're learning in chaos. So part of this work, the the first part of it is really to establish a vision for our math and our ELA for our district, which then articulates from preK all the way to our our lovely seniors who are sitting here advocating for themselves. And our goal is
123really to prepare them for um their next steps, what are the whether that's career or college, we need to make sure that we're preparing our students. So um a couple of things that um vision helps with and I I put from both the teachers and the students perspectives um it helps the students understand what the goal is and why they're working. It's the why. It also helps them um develop very uh specific skills on problem solving, critical thinking. It makes math relevant, makes ELA relevant. It's like why do I need to know this? We have the why. we can tell you why you need to know these things. Um, and for our teachers, um, we we teach in silos when we're in the classroom. We don't interact with a lot of anybody else. And it's
124even more of a challenge in a very small district when you're the only middle school math teacher and you're the only high school math teacher or the only ELA or the only science or social studies. Who do you have conversations with in order to better your instruction to find solutions for accommodations and interventions? You don't have that network which is I would say one of the most important pieces for teachers to be better and to do better and to support our students. And so this helps us at least align some of those pieces and also hopefully allows our teachers to start developing those relationships and strengthen that collaboration so that they can identify what's working in my classroom. I'm sorry I can't meet the needs of these three kiddos. let's have a conversation about how
125I do that and get perspectives from different individuals whether that's elementary um above below and even in different subject areas. So we're trying to build that network of collaboration which is what a PLC is supposed to be doing. Um our next slide. Um so I want to um go to our interventions and supports and MLSS um is our state framework for supports for our students for intervention and um MLSS basically says that every student is entitled to interventions and supports and those interventions and supports should come from a variety of different areas And as Miss Gonzalez mentioned earlier, it's not just what happens in the classroom. We primarily focus on academics, um, behavior, and attendance. Those are our three big ones, but we also are looking at, like I mentioned in my first slide, social
126emotional supports. We're looking at community supports. How do we help our families? And this framework you can see on the side, really looks at all of those pieces. health and wellness. Do do I have a kiddo who I'm just going to say has a ingrown toenail and can't walk down the hallway unless they're in pain. Did I make sure that they got seen at the clinic? Do I have a kiddo who has a stomach bug and feels like throwing up? And did I make sure that they got seen by the nurse? Do I have a staff member who's feeling ill who just needs to be able to step out and go get checked? Those are things that are included in our MLSS framework. And if we only focus on the academics, then we're forgetting all
127those other pieces that our students and our staff need to be successful. So, we're primarily focusing on attendance. We're having attendance meetings for students who have um excessive absences and excessive tardies. we are um meeting to talk about academics and how do I get my kid into tutoring? Um your kid is required to go to tutoring. Um I want you to come to tutoring. Like those are the conversations that are happening for multiple perspectives. Um behavior as I mentioned our SEAL supports are there to help support our kiddos on a regular basis because if they can't regulate they can't learn and it's a disruption for other students as well. So right now our interventions are um those three primarily but we are definitely connecting with um our other layers of support. We are also making
128sure that we are um looking at what level of support our students need. There's three levels to MLSS. The um tier one, tier two, and tier three or layer one, two, and three. I'd be in trouble if I said tier pet. They'd yell at me because it's layers. um but looking at what layer of support, how intensive, how often um do we need to be be providing supports for our students and um having some honest conversations about what's working and not working. So our PLC time has been addressing um interventions and supports for our special education students. So we had a specific PLC training from our special education team on how do you provide accommodations for students without lowering the expectations too much. We've also had conversations about who needs an intervention plan. And all
129the teachers are there to say, "Hey, this kiddo is doing this with me, this works, this doesn't work. Let's sit down and draft something so we can have the conversations with parents." We have a list of students who are attendance. Um behavior is an ongoing thing. We we address that daily, but those are the major areas that we're focusing on. And then we connect with um Tus Behavior Hoff as well as um Miss Laura Lee Martinez with our community schools to give those outside supports for our students um whether it's clothes, school supplies, food, whatever it may be. Go ahead and switch. So um in conclusion, we're looking at school systems. um it you can't change the culture, you can't change interventions, you can't move instruction and proficiency forward without addressing all of those areas
130at one time. And so we're working at each one of those. And we're establishing some protocols and some systems that all of our teachers are aware of, our students are aware of, and our parents are aware of. And that takes time because we have to see where things are kind of not working in order to identify how do we make it work. And so that's what we're working on right now. So schoolwide systems, we're also looking on our at our instructional goals. Um my focus as um an instructional leader has been to meet with every single one of my teachers and what are your instructional goals for the year? What's your plan? What do you want me to give you feedback on? hate walking into a classroom and saying, "Here's your walkthrough. Here's your evaluation.
131Here's the observation." And it has zero meaning for my staff. So, I met with every one of my staff members. I identified what their instructional goals are. What resources do you need? When I give you feedback, what am I going to give you feedback on so that it's meaningful for you to shift your instruction? Because this is something that's important to you. And every one of my staff members was able to do that. And so, that's what we're focused on. um professional development for our staff. As we find the need, we're filling in those gaps um either through the PLC in collaboration with Miss Gonzalez. Do we need to do it districtwide, schoolwide, what are we doing? Um definitely um also asking our staff members, what do you need training on? Because if they identify
132a need, I want to make sure that they're able to receive that in some some fashion. And then finally, but most importantly, our supports for our students. How do we get that network and that system in place so that our students feel supported daily um even minute by minute because our our moods and our behaviors and our challenges change from one second to the next. Relationships I will say is probably the biggest goal um over these last few months has been building those relationships with students and identifying who needs support and how we can provide those supports for our kiddos. And with that I stand for questions. um you had said that we had got a grant to because our math adoption thing is coming up. >> So the grant was specific to highquality instructional
133materials and each district had the ability to identify what area they wanted to. A lot of districts chose math because it's our adoption year. And so it's an easy we're going to start from scratch. We're going to adopt a new curriculum. We're going to go through the implementation process rather than I'm going to pick something like science that was adopted last year and we already have the curriculum. We already we don't know if it was high quality or not. So we're focusing on math because math is our adoption for this year. So we are going to pay the consulting >> the consulting. >> So yes, we are paying them, but everything is being paid out of the grant. >> No, no, that's what I'm saying. Out of the grant, >> but like So that's what
134we're going to be using that money for is to hire these consultants. >> So not completely. So there's multiple parts to the grant, but that is one of the first pieces. um in the initial survey and just conversations when we did our self- assessment for the grant itself um it we identified some gaps >> and the gaps are that sometimes we don't know what a HQIM is sometimes we have it but we don't know how to implement it so um we also have identified that there's a gap in what we're teaching and where our students should be learning and how do we fill in those gaps >> and so the team that's coming in TMTP um helps support and guide us with that. They're also providing coaching for our teachers and they go in and
135they observe they're providing feedback to our staff of hey you taught your lesson this way. This is something shifts that you can make so that we can make sure that we're inclusive of all of our students. Does that answer your question? That's part of the >> that's part of what we're going to use the budget. >> Yes, part >> and then what is the other part going to be used for? The other part addresses the the additional time and compensation. It could address materials. I apologize, I don't have the entire grant in front of me, but that's just a portion of it. The rest really meets the needs of the district itself. >> So, we're not going to be buying like a new math program. >> We will be in May when we have to
136adopt and we have our state adoption cycle. So, new math will be adopted with the state cycle in May. Um, we'll present that to you. >> Can you clarify what we were going to be? You said that we were going to be using >> it was going to include high school, middle school, and elementary. >> Yes. >> For what? >> So, the right now the training is focused on >> Oh, this is the training part. >> This is the train. How do we use high quality instructional materials? What's that opportunity gap? Um how do we create opportunities for students who are behind um as instruction um leaders, instructional leaders? How do we shift what we're doing? There's individual coaching that Mr. Guru and I are both part of so that we understand how do we
137lead better to support our staff um when we go in and do a walkthrough. What are our look fors? So those are some of the pieces that we're we're receiving coaching on and support for so that we can be better instructional leaders as well. So Mr. Gonzalez, this was a very um a highly competitive uh grant and it wasn't actually given to a lot of people or a lot of schools within New Mexico. It's it was a national um grant and it's very specific of how we can use it. Um, so part of it is part of the training. Um, and I'm going to commend the team because TNTP I was fortunate enough to sit in I don't know if you ever sat in any of those. Um, I have the >> So, we developed
138this we went through all the standards for math. So, I did math and I did ELA um elementary and middle school um and re bring him into it and give them um like examples of what this could look like when you're doing it. Um another part of the grant covers our subs and any of our subs that when they need to be out covers all of that um and any materials that may be needed, but a lot of it will go to this um them coming in. So one of the big things in um Miss Martinez you mentioned um in studies they say in you know we bring in all of this um different programs to our our teachers but there's never any follow through with it. So that coaching part is a big part
139of the follow through. So, my concern where where I'm trying to go with this is I like the idea of having a math program that like stays consistent from the elementary all the way through high school. >> I really I think that's really great. And then now that we do the new math adoption, my concern is that like every couple of years we have a new math adoption, right? And we buy new new and different programs. So like how are we going to if we if we start if we have one consistent program remember that. >> So which >> so if I can speak to the adoption cycle, it's it's a six-year adoption cycle based on the state. So every six years you'll be adopting >> a new one >> Potentially. Um I will say
140um if I can speak to the continuation or the continuum of instructional materials. Um, one of the challenges that we we face when we're looking at um, vendors or publishers, if you will, who publish high quality instructional materials, they're all reviewed and vetted by peed. They bring in teachers, they look at them, and they score them, and they provide a rubric. Some of our vendors are really, really good at elementary, but they're horrible at secondary, and vice versa. So based on the rubrics that are provided and our adoption process, which means we look at the materials, we have committees, we have feedback, we do practice sessions, we do all of those things. Our goal is to try and find curriculum for elementary, med, and high school that has enough similarity for our students to be
141able to successfully navigate from one to the other. But more importantly, and I think this is the piece that really um ensures more success for our students is that our teachers are trained to implement any HQIM. And when they can do that, it doesn't really matter whether I'm teaching out of HMH, um, Savas, or Carnegie or any of them. if they're HQIM, I as a teacher am capable of taking that material and providing good instruction for my students. So, we're really focusing on the teacher part more so because like a good teacher who has those resources and that toolbox is able to better provide instruction for our students. So I I agree like we go through these cycles. Um and it's frustrating if we have a complete changeover but at the same time if the
142teachers provide consistency in the classroom it doesn't matter what we've adopted which changes from year to year depending on how well the vendor does at presenting for the review. And one of the big things with that is remember so TNT um TNTP is based on standards. So standards is what we should be teaching programs curriculum. It's a support >> it's a standards that we should be focusing on. Sorry. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> Um I'd like to talk about the multi-layered system of support. >> Yes. Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but the secondary level, uh, you know, middle school, high school level does not have a behavioral health counselor. Correct. >> So, we we are missing some of those pieces right now and we are definitely filling in where we can. Um, I
143I will say that um having a dedicated counselor for behavioral supports, um, a social worker, um, any of those individuals would is needed. It's it's a very high need for our middle school and high school. And I not that our elementary doesn't have those needs, but the needs at middle school and high school become much more um challenging because life is more challenging. And so that is one of those gaps that we're filling in where we can. Um but that is something that we're and if I may that was my second part of my question. Um I know that you have resources like El Centro and House Behavioral Health um involved in your MyS um how are they providing support services in specifically to make up for the lack thereof of a behavioral health counselor.
144>> So as best as possible because they also have other responsibilities and duties. Um, I do have to say that they are amazing in just for example, if I have a student who's having a meltdown and I need somebody to talk to them, meet with them, make sure that they're okay, they will they will do that. um I can call on them if I have any um health concerns, health and well-being concerns to sit in on meetings and then make those connections with parents as well as do we need to make um referrals for other services. Um they assist in a variety of different conversations with students just as a another trusted adult. We're trying to build those relationships. A lot of our students go to them um if they just see them in the
145hall, they do check-ins. Um if there's an issue that arises in a class, we definitely have the cushion where our TVH staff are in the classroom with specific students, but best practices is not to identify a specific student. We only work with them. They support everybody. And so there's relationships that are being built between our students and our staff. I will tell you the need is great and we don't have enough. I I I will say that. Um but we're we're doing the best that we can with the staff that we have present. Um and they are amazing in the way that they chip in and help support our students. So yes, there's a need, there's a gap. Um but we're doing the best we can with um with our staff. We'll also let the
146board know um and this is very recent. So um we did have and because they're not my staff, it's a little bit different. Um we had one staff member from Tus Behavior Health that um recently resigned with uh Triilo and then um she resigned and I'm going to say maybe two weeks later um Miss Dominguez who oversees um t behavior health she didn't she's stepping down um she's still going to oversee um health behavior health and those supports but um TBH is currently looking for somebody for that replacement. So, they they have a lot of um some changes going on there. >> Okay. I I asked that because I know that at the middle school and high school level um you know you not only is your body changing but your mind is going through
147a million things at once. So I know that the lack of support if I mean I know we have but I mean it's important to have somebody there in my opinion um all the time um because of you know I mean they it impacts it it impacts the way our students test it it impacts the way they learn. It impacts the way they live and breathe. Um, so I think it's super important that we have somebody there every single day um to be able to navigate these and and I know you're already wearing a lot of hats. So, so, um, >> I do I I try and step in as often as possible, >> but that's why I asked because I wanted to know exactly what you know, tough behavior health and El Centro. I'm
148I I fully stepped away from my role there um, you know, to make sure that I separated both both ways. That's my mask, you know, like how how are they supporting the school and the students >> and and th as I mentioned, those are the areas I can make referrals. Um I can um I pull and I'm sorry, right or wrong, I I pull a TBH staff member when I know that a student has a relationship with them and say, "Hey, can you please do a check on this kiddo?" um I don't have a relationship with them yet or I need to go here because this one's this and this and that's that. Can you please check with this student? So, we're we're we're filling in those gaps as best as possible. But I agree
149with you wholeheartedly that we we definitely need more of that behavioral and social emotional support for our students. And that's really what they're navigating. It's a different world. When you hit middle school and high school, relationships become much more complicated. Peer-to-p peer relationships, adult student relationships, we're dealing with a lot more um that's that's at a different level um of concern, I would say, for a lot of our students. And so, um we're we're we're figuring out where we can fill those gaps. >> Thank you. Of course, I have a quick question. How come um why is it so hard to keep um like behavioral health unemployed? >> Um I can't speak to um pay wages. Is it the atmosphere? Because it seems like every year we we're lacking that. >> There's not a lot
150of um people that are going into that field. >> Oh. >> So it's hard to build. They're very hard to fill positions. And I will also say, and this is just a general thing in education, we just based on our budgetary boundaries don't pay as well as a lot of other opportunities for staff members >> outside of outside education. >> They could work with private contractor and or open up their own business and they're making way more money than they do in a school. A lot of the people who come into the schools do it because that's their >> that's their passion. That's where they want to be. Um it's also very challenging navigating relationships. I I don't think I've I've seen too many um seal behavioral support staff leave because of the students like
151and it's overwhelming. >> Um so I wouldn't say that that's the that's the the issue. I think more of the systems and the other pieces that are more in that professional realm are the things that interfere with their ability to stay. Um, our our staff are here because they love the kids and they want to support them and that's really what drives I think anybody who's in education because they're definitely not doing it for the >> the paycheck. No, I understand. It just seems like we're always just dealing with that the same situation. And I will also say that um it's not a funded or very well funded part of education. We we have mandates and expectations for our schools to be able to provide these supports. We've shifted a lot of that um community
152burden onto the schools. Um and I understand why. It's like a central hub for us to be able to provide community supports, behavioral health support, social emotional, all those pieces, but at the same time, we're not getting the funding that would then compensate the districts to be able to hold those positions long term. A lot of them are funded with grants. And when you have a grant and the grant runs out, well then did they renew the grant from peed side or from the federal side? if they didn't, well then you're out a position, which is the case with a lot of our our extra support systems. um we don't have dedicated funding for those things um from peed and that's just that's a funding issue but like that's a >> yeah it's across the
153board probably everywhere in that district >> and a lot of districts are robbing Peter to pay Paul if you will to try and make sure that we have these sports in place grants are a huge part of how we're able to pay for them >> but PD doesn't always fund them even though it's a hey you got to do this it's in our MLS SS framework we don't have money for it was dedicated for that specifically >> um the TNTP is that just for the math teachers or is that for >> it's district it's going to be district which is why we want like as I mentioned before we want to make sure that all teachers know regardless of what the curriculum is you know how to teach standards you know how to adapt your
154instruction so that's why we're making a district districtwide um training and are also looking at districtwide vision for math and ELA. And then also that coaching is is going to be available for more of our staff. Um definitely focused on our math because that is one of those areas, but we're we're uh we're definitely aware that that needs it. Miss Simble, do you have any questions or comments? Maybe she's on mute. She >> She's muted. >> Can you hear me? >> Yes, we hear you now. >> Uh, no, I don't. I think all this information is pretty good and I appreciate the presentation. Um, everyone's asking questions that I keep thinking in my head. So, you know, thank you for getting to that and thank you for including me, but no. Um I don't have
155any questions right now. >> Thank you. Thank you miss um I just thank you this um you didn't the data wasn't available and you still presented indepth >> information about us giving us a view inside of what's going on in the school and um I love that you are you're we can see that you care about the school the whole person staff students um and it's not just you know just the data or just the teaching. We can see that you truly um have your heart in starting from the beginning to the end with everything in depth and I I love that you're doing the vertical alignment. I think when I was teaching here it was that was so needed and it no one was initiating it. So thank you for for doing that. That's
156really awesome. >> Thank you. And I I do want to say that this is a collaboration across the district. this doesn't work without um including elementary and having that conversation from middle school to high school >> um because our kids come from they start someplace and they need to end someplace and we all need to be on the same page for that. So, thank you for that. >> Thank you. >> Well, I am um I don't know. I am >> Thank you so much. Thank you for waiting. I know we we try to drive. >> I at least I wasn't at the end. >> Try to make that work. >> I appreciate that. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> How was that? here. So, I do have to make a motion to
157um to request action on the or yeah, request action on the the data meeting um just to for us to approve the data. So, I I'll make a motion. Is there a second? >> Madam Chair, would that be appropriate since we didn't have >> the approved? It's not on the approved action items. >> You could approve it at the special or >> Yeah. Okay. Um I was told that I could do it that way, but that's okay. Sorry. I don't know you. We can since we're going to have a special we could do it a special meeting to do that. >> So what was told was because this is part of my >> it's part of her evaluation. >> Oh, okay. Miss Gonzalez's evaluation and we'll talk about it in the future as far as
158how to put it in the agenda for next time for next progress meeting progress monitoring. Does that make sense? >> Okay. >> All right. So, I'll make the motion and do I have a second question? >> Yeah. Well, I was going to make a motion in a second and then for discussion and then if it's not if we don't agree, we just don't agree. >> So, we don't have to approve it. So, is there a second? >> Second. >> Okay. >> Second by Miss Martinez. Any discussion? >> Would it be more appropriate to do this in January when we have actually have the middle of the year data. >> I thought of that but I also thought about because while they were presenting I was I thought the same thing but I thought when we
159are evaluating Miss Gonzalez the data that we have this data can be included in in that and that could include um Miss Martinez's presentation and all this really good information and I'm sure that's part of Miss Gonzalez's leadership and then Mr. Gutle's data. That's part of Miss Gonzalez's leadership also. And just to have that extra data is good, but >> but I thought the same thing and then I thought maybe we should just go ahead and do it. So, and then my evaluation. So, typically um superintendent evaluations are in December. Um this is new for me. I I um I don't even know how to put it in there. usually we present the data and then you guys did my evaluation in December and then I guess I thought just my um perception was that
160so you've seen all the data that we have been presenting and then and I don't know so what I just had a >> yeah I'll bring this up so I just had a coaching session with Miss Yolanda and she offered um for the at the December meeting and unfortunately you're going to be there but at the December meeting in the for the NMSBA she offered an hour if we wanted to meet for an hour with her on whatever we wanted to meet about if we don't meet with her then about our evaluation with Miss Gonzalez we can set up another time to do that or two of us can meet with her to to go over that and that's going going to be I want I was going to present to her the evaluation form
161or information we do have and she's going to help us coach us through how the all this is going to come together. So does that make sense? Madam chair, I get um just for clarification during our special board meeting, do we also need to approve the evaluation formal or are we redoing that? What does that look like? So, I I'm assuming that we're going to have to adopt it or adapt it or change it somewhat to go coincide with what we're doing because we're only evaluating on the go on the goals and the data. So, the data reflect the goals. So, >> so is there a form so far that >> that's that's what I need to look for. >> We're not going to use that big long evaluation. Mhm. >> I mean, unless the
162board wants to add that to it, but I I don't know how it's relevant to the goals, you know, >> right? >> Um, >> do we then >> but that's a board decision. >> Then we need to come up with the new evaluation rule then. >> Yes. >> I was going to show her the evaluation tool that we've used >> a special meeting if you're going to >> Exactly. >> If we're going to do So, do we have to approve it then? Do we have to have to create it and then approve it? >> And I'll check with I need to check with Miss Alana about approving it. Do we have to >> and she already has one a template that can >> we can ask her to like Riadosa is already doing this and
163Soro is always already doing this. We can ask just like we adopted their manual. We can take a look at their tool that they're using. >> Motion. >> Okay. So that I'm sorry >> that was my question. Sorry. >> No, that's good. That's good. We need so we'll need to add to the special board meeting of >> the evaluation. Okay. >> And then also the approval of >> Well, I didn't know it was already approved. I I don't What's that? I made a motion. I made a motion. You second it. Okay. We then there's discussion and now there's a roll call or unless there's any other discussion. So, I think at the um the the special meeting, we'll talk about about whether we want to meet for an hour with Miss Yolanda at the December
164meeting or we could do it another time. Okay. The the NMSBA meeting. All right. So, roll call, please, Madam Secretary. >> Um Mr. Jason Gonzalez. >> Yes. >> Miss Patricia Martinez. Yes. Um, Miss Moniquea, >> yes. >> Miss Caroline Grant, >> yes. >> Miss William Shambalo, >> yes. >> Okay, motion carries. Thank you, >> Madam Chair. I need to kind of go back to my presentation. Miss, my report, Miss Oh, sorry. >> If you can or if you could just go into documents and open the Actually, I don't know if it's in my the BC E. >> And it may not be maybe that one that you have right there. Yep. There you go. Madam Chair, >> oops. Sorry. um bars. Uh next on the agenda, um for under presentation is the B BDC rate.
165Um so the wrong one went out. But with the BTC rate, um it is our broadband. Um we got a credit like like a reimbursement credit of 6,91386. Um, this is not something that needs to be approved or anything like that. It's just something that I want to make sure that you guys are aware of. So, we did get that. Um, there was like I will let you know a lot of paperwork that went with that. It was just crazy for $6,000. Um, but we do we did get it. Uh, 6,913. Um, we've already accepted. We only had 30 days to accept it. So, we did ask Miss uh Grant to come in uh to sign it for us. All of that other good stuff that comes with it. Um the 6,000 needs uh I'm
166just going to come in here really quick to see it's to support uh school facilities. Um so, we'll be using it towards that. I'm very specific um with that. So, just wanted to inform you that we got an additional 6,913 from capital. It's um out of capital outlay, but this was a credit that we received from our um fund and it's our with rate. >> And do we get to use that this year? >> Yes. >> And you you said it's for >> uh school facilities. So, we the schools like the maintenance. Yes, I believe in your superintendent report you had mentioned that the maintenance is going to have to be looking on something specific. >> Yes, madam chair. Um other thing that I have on our report is our capital outlay. This is another
167another capital outlay. Um item seven. Am I the right number? >> Is it the same? It's not. And I I do apologize. >> I don't know what happened this year. We're a little off on how we we did things. I I don't know if you saw that. I'm like, whoa. >> Um I will take full responsibility. I was um trying to be helpful and I thought I had everything in there for Missette and I. So my bad, Missette, you'll have to double check that I'm not deleting half of this book. um as I did on this one. >> Um this next one is a capital outlay. Um and >> well, so this other one is approval. >> No, it's just to inform you as well. Um and but something a little bit different. So we
168did get a 100,000 um with this one. It's not part of the go bond. I know that was one of the questions. It's nothing like that. This is something so that was some additional funding that was left over. So then um every now and then we get lucky and the state says, "Hey, we're going to distribute this much money to all of the different schools." Um our portion was 100,000. Um it's very specific as to how we can use this. Um so it states that we could use it for school security um improvements, career technical education facilities, um and then maintenance or and repair of public school buildings or expenditures for the physical year for this school year. So we do have to use it by the end of the school year. Now even though
169SB9 passes, you guys know it doesn't take effect until next year. So this is I'm going to say this is a blessing and I don't know if I can say but blessing in disguise um because of SB9 not passing and then for us to be able to get the 100,000 and it's definitely a big help for us um because it has to it's very specific as how we're going to use it. I will let the board know that we will be using um this 100,000 for maintenance and repair of the building just because we have the need there now. So we will not be using it for security school security improvements or career technical education facilities which be would be our lowtech building. >> Mr. Gonzalez, >> the fence is covered by is going to
170be >> insurance. >> Yes. Okay. That's in my report too. about all of that of where we're where we sat with all of that. Um I do believe with this one, Miss Grant, we do need a signature from you on this one. It's not something that needs board approval, but it's something that we um >> um with that those are our presentations um at this time. Mr. sugar. Are you still on? >> Yes. >> I I thought I was going to tell you I hope you went to bed and then I just realized no. Um item eight uh approval items. This is something that goes to the board every every year. Um I guess posted on our website every year. Um this is in collaboration with police uh is our Indian policy and procedures. Um
171Mr. Goods has taken the lead um with our Indian ed. So Mr. Goodle I will defer. >> So this is where you recommend the approval and I um so he needs to approve. So >> Oh my I apologize. Um Madame Chair, I make the approval u recommendation of approval item eight. Approval items. A Indian policy and procedures um also known as IP. You've heard the recommendation by the superintendent. Is there a motion? >> Make a motion. >> Miss makes the motion. Do I hear a second? Second. Second by Miss Visaka. Okay. Are we open for discussion? >> So I I have one thing uh regarding the dates. I mean, I think everything looks good. It looks in line with what we've had before. However, I don't know um with the traditional ceremonies according to the
172Pickery's public calendar, I'd like to see something in this IP or yeah, IP that in regards to indigenous people's day, which has become a state holiday um in place since 2019 by Governor Gisham. um we didn't have anything implemented this year. Past couple years we had but this year there was nothing, not even acknowledging it within the school um that it was indigenous people's day. Um and then again this month of November is Native American Heritage Month and there's no mention of that either. So I like to see something implemented regarding that because we do have a diverse school here especially with our Native American students. Um, and it would be nice so that we can share more of that culture of pickeries um with our surrounding communities. I mean, in the past when we
173did have engagement, uh it was really nice to see that all of our students were really um interested in what they were seeing and what they were experiencing, especially like with our traditional dances. So, that's something that I would recommend. I would like to see um moving forward that's those two dates well as far as um indigenous people's day and then the entire month um that is something that we can incorporate there moving forward and I thank you for that uh for you know bringing that up. >> Thank you on the IP apologizing. And Mr. Glay, do you kind of want to go through the process of what you have to do in order to get this approved? >> So, um, for the most part, our IP has been written out. There hasn't been very
174many changes to it over the course of the last couple years. Um last week I scheduled a meeting with the governor of um Pigis. Uh we sat down along with the So I sat down with uh Governor Yaza and Lieutenant Governor Consuelo and we went through this. We looked at everything. Um and they first need to sign it before we bring it to the board for um approval. Um while there I mean outside of the IP we discussed some other things that you know PBLO leaders would like to see our school incorporate um or is you know our intention of the meeting was the IP. We discussed other items. Um but like I said kind of stays the same. the state kind of gives us a an uh if you want to say some guidance
175as to how it should be written and then we need approval from the PBLO and from the governor and then it comes to the board. >> Mr. Glay um and I apologize I didn't um get a chance to review this. So in the past we had to add so we had added and I don't see it in here now but that we added all the dates that we wanted celebrate to celebrate. So kind of what Miss um symbol was referring to. So >> the dates are in there. >> It's right here on page two >> on page two. Did um when you spoke with Mr. Governor Yaza and Lieutenant Governor, did they make any recommendations of other dates that need to be added? >> They did not. >> Did they sign off on this? >>
176Yes, they did. Do we want do we want to do like a an an what is it where you're adding on an add amendment to it where you add on the dates that Miss um Simolo mentioned and then reach out to governor to the govern Governor uh Yaza and Lieutenant Governor and see if this is okay to add on to that. >> Sure. I can I can ask them for that. I mean, I don't know if if we'll have to bring it up again for approval or if you guys would be able to approve with just making the amendment to adding um one specific date and then um the month itself. Well, if we're getting it approved here today with the understanding that we're going to be adding the dates that Miss uh Simolo mentioned
177and then just taking it back to >> bringing it back >> to Well, bringing it back to Governor Ya, letting them know that it was approved by the board. The recommendation was to add this one date. >> Yep. >> And then if they agree with that, then we can just keep the dates and then you just add the the dates that are in there. Yes, I can I can make that um adjustment tomorrow morning and I can uh call the tribal secretary to see if I'm available to meet with the governor tomorrow afternoon. >> And I'm usually and even if you when he comes for his he comes for two I can speak to him as well. Yes, ma'am. >> Let him know that the recommendation that Miss Simul uh did you did you jot
178down the dates that Miss Simulo um gave >> Okay, awesome. Um, here's a question for Miss Envelope. Um, I know you mentioned the month of November um, to be recognized as Nate Native American Heritage Month. Um, for clarification on Indigenous People's Day, were you requesting that it be acknowledged, recognized, or observed? >> Um, probably all of the above. Being that in the past the couple the past couple of years there was something that, you know, was done with the school. We had PBLO day where we had um traditional dances come into the school and had PBLO throw, you know, and a PBLO meal that was served in the cafeteria. Um I I can't recall what was done last year. However, it was acknowledged. Um you know, >> last year we visited we visited the PBLO
179during that time. >> So, you know, there there has been several things. This year though, there was no mention of anything. So, um, you know, I think that being that is it is state acknowledged as of 2019, we should put it on the calendar. It's not Columbus Day any longer in the state of New Mexico. It is Native American I mean, it is indigenous people's day. And then within the whole United States, Native American Heritage Month is acknowledged amongst all tribes and nations within the US. >> So, Mr. can you make that adjustment on the IP as well? It still says policy >> and then um as the lead for the Indian ed if you can see maybe um and this is in oh wait it's not you don't have it here it's colate it's
180not in here >> I know what was asking that we add indigenous people's day >> right >> yeah Okay. So maybe you can collaborate with uh Mr. McCaulay um to see if maybe we could do something in collaboration with Picodies to have those celebrations. I will >> in acknowledgement >> otherwise I mean just to chime in real quick if we were to as a school observe um uh indigenous people's day as other schools might do it would be a school closure wouldn't it be >> affect we have to get board approval I mean um it has to get approved by the state >> and not necessarily I don't think because in the past. We acknowledged it there at the school. We observed it there at the school. Like I mentioned, we had a whole day
181dedicated to Native American um activities. You're absolutely right, Misso. We didn't last year and the year before we did not close them. Uh we we had celebrations um during school. >> And I'm going to say we had events teaching uh about culture within the school. >> Yes. So I I agree with I agree with what you're stating. Um as symbol if you can just add those uh to to this Mr. Goodway and then if the board approves um the way it is with the additions and then if you could just take that back to Governor Yaza. >> Yes, I will. >> Awesome. Thank you, Mr. Goodway. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Okay. So, um for the approval of the Indian policy and procedures with with that amendment, um Madam Secretary, please take a roll
182call. >> Um Mr. Jason Gonzalez, >> yes. >> Miss Patricia Martinez, yes. Miss Monifeaga, yes. Miss Caroline Grant, yes. Miss Gwen Simolo. >> Yes. >> Okay. Majority complete. Motion carries. >> Thank you, Mr. Glay. >> Thank you all. You have a good night. >> Take some medicine. >> I wanted to say it. What? >> I thought about it and then I thought and then now I >> um board president um distinguished board members. Um the next thing that we have on our agenda for approval um is our FT FB sorry FBT architects. Um, you've heard it's such a hard way of saying it's like it's just hard. I had a hard time saying it for the full evaluation. Kind of want to um go over some of the steps and where you >> Oh my
183gosh. Again, matt um um madame chair uh I ask for approval of uh item 8B FBT architects. Okay, you heard the recommendation by the superintendent. Is there a motion? So move. Motion by Miss Lisa. Do I hear a second? >> Second by Miss Simolo. And we're up for discussion. Keep reminding me. Um, I am This has been um exciting. I have another word. It has been so much I mean it's time consuming. I'm not going to lie. Uh but exciting. Um that's all I have to say. Um we had a total of let's see uh one two three four five six architects that presented um we had a committee that consisted of myself and this is a recommendation from PSFA. So myself uh Mr. ran as our CPO, business manager, um CPO, uh Mr. Goule
184as an administrator. We had Alyssa Rodriguez, um a student, and then we also had Ian Ham, uh who is our representative for our project manager representative. Um I did have a community member and they never returned my calls for any of our meetings. So we so part of the process was we um went through each architect had to submit um an RFP and and I'm just I commend all of them because the work that went into those um I'm going to say it was work. Uh and then from there we scored in this is kind of the score sheet um that I have that miss is presenting and then we met a second time. So we picked our uh top three which was FBT architects formative architects, RMKM architects and then we invited them over
185to come and do a demonstration or present to us is what I'll say. Um, and I'm going to pass this because this is the uh, so our I'm going to say FBT architects um, was our highest rating and I don't know if I can't see the numbers that far. I'm sorry. >> Sorry. >> Um, there's just no way I could I wouldn't be able to read them on. >> There you go. >> Where are they from? >> Albuquerque. Um, so one of the big So, and I'm going to say you guys could have the data there. Um, one of the big things that we were looking at is we wanted him to be from New Mexico, somebody that understands um our terrain, what it what it is or some of the issues that we've seen.
186Um, we were able to walk with all of the architects that um presented uh and I put this out, you know, we did a school walk um so that I can pass it on. >> Yes, you may. I just ask that you don't share it out. >> This is just an example of what was kind of presented to us. Um we talked about some of the issues that we're we currently have um some of the just flooding, the snow, uh where the ice builds up, kind of what we're seeing issues with the way the building has been constructed now. Um and they went with that. Um I will say that within our interview and what they did is that they gave us and can you do me a favor? in my in the drawer. I'm
187going to say the far end drawer on the cabinet, the one like closest to the wall by there's you know those like little model things. I think there if there and there may not be one, but look to see if there's one from FBT. Okay, >> so FBT um scored the highest for us. Um and I'm going to say that for several reasons. And if you look at who was on their team, Mr. Ryan Park, >> um he was one of the individuals that has I mean there's several buildings that they've already helped when he worked with PSFA and I think that that was a huge um buy in for us. Um they're have over 50 years of experience. They're based out of um Albuquerque. They designed several school facilities throughout New Mexico. Um I'm
188going to say definitely um by far one of our higher rate uh ranking uh they were all very good. They had excellent presentations and it and what you guys are looking at there. I mean, just some examples, not necessarily this is what it's going to be, but just some examples to kind of, you know, get our imagination going. I guess getting your imagination going this loud. >> It's pretty exciting. Is that the >> um I'm not going to lie and I'll share these with you guys as well. >> So, they actually created um Right. Like you guys need to see they created some models for us. So not only did they and kind of the same thing that you had there, but this is um one of our 3D >> of what it could what
189it could look like. So what they're saying and >> let me do it this way. So here is how we drive in now. So we drive in this way and then we kind of come around and then the school's here. This is our where we're currently at. So their recommendation, this is um their recommendation is putting the school or and not this is just kind of a hey this is an option um in front of the gym. This would be the high school then it would have like our office buildings and then the elementary they would move. So, right now we have a baseball field up that's up on this corner and they would move it down to where the on our property where the current school is. This would be the baseball field. Um,
190this is just one example. Pass that one down. And then they had another one. Maybe we can keep this one school here. Have the elementary here. I mean, just some ideas. And really, it was to give give us like a visual Yeah, things that we can do. Um, their presentation was outstanding. >> Ask a different one. Um, the committee has recommended um FBT architects uh to design our school. Um, and with that, we bring it to the board for approval. Um I will let you know that part of the process um our next steps once we get all of this approved is we will be having um several community meetings where and we and I've been talking to a lot of people in the community just saying hey you know this is a great opportunity
191for you guys to show up um let's talk and let's see what we can create and then we'll have a committee um a smaller and I'm going to say a committee uh it'll be more community uh staff members, maintenance staff, and I don't think it said it on here, but Mr. Pino was also part of that committee. >> Our maintenance I think that's to the bus building, right? Little bus and that's >> little bus building. >> Yes, that's Yep. >> maintenance up here. >> Okay. So, no maintenance is on the other side. That little gray one. No, this mark. >> That one is maintenance. And and over there, that's for the sewer hunters. >> Oh, okay. by the track by the track. Yes, >> I didn't see where the track field was. Is it track?
192>> It's not on there. Not on this one. Um, so the plan is to get as much input from the community, from staff members, from as many people, and then let them give their ideas and then let them come back to us and present what they come up with. um in this committee, this will be our larger committee um where we'll have a representative from and I'm going to say maybe multiple representatives from the community um staff members, we'll have some students um and then um all the other people and I'm not going to say I don't know if it's going to be all the other people but for sure myself um Miss Janice has to be there as a CPO and uh my rec and penal as our maintenance supervisor. Um, and I also
193think it's always good to just have that student input as well because this is really their school. >> Is there going to be >> I'm sorry. >> Did you want to just start changing? >> Okay. >> Is so that committee that you just mentioned is that going to stay throughout the whole process or is it does it change up? >> So it will stay throughout this process of the the design of the space maybe. >> Yes. >> Okay. Um and then you'll do if there's a another committee it won't be the same committee that we have now just that for sure it will be offenses and Mr. know will be on all all in all of the committee and then Ian of course is our project manager when we do um communicate this information to
194the gosh entire the community um that form that Jason's looking at now will there be multiple of those forms for patients >> time this is just an example what >> what could happen right yeah exactly but but they you want to give them like an idea also like of what could happen. So when what so this is my understanding of how it will work. They're going to get all the input from those community meetings and I believe they said maybe six is what they were looking at or maybe less. I could be wrong. Um but I heard possibly six. Uh, and that could be I don't know if that's part of the our part of the committee meets or not, but they're going to get all of that input, all of the thoughts that are
195coming out, jotting everything down, and then they're taking it back to the drawing board, and then they'll come back and present it to the to that committee, and then the committee will then make the decision on which one. >> How much are they? >> Sitting. >> Um, it's the it's the 50. I think it's the maximum. No, it's not. So, this phase I can't I'm sorry. Um I know I have the numbers. I just don't have them with me. But this phase will cost so much. Um I I'm sorry. I just have the number on my I know it. What did he say again? It >> millions. It'll be millions. It'll be part of the 50 million that we received >> for the architect plan. >> Yeah. Like half of the 50 million >> a
196quarter >> should be like five to where all the books are stack where they're at. Where all the books are back. So you have a binder. It's the first >> on the first side, not the second one where you were at. But on the shelves itself, there's like a stacks of all the ones that are finded. >> Oh, you know what? I take that back. >> It is exciting. It just like bittersweet. and you see that and you're like here for >> this for so long. Did you see Did you see the projected dates? >> The not until September 26th. >> Oh, 26 >> is when they would. >> Oh, yeah. Oh, it's probably in there. What are we looking at? The amount. >> I see amounts on it. >> I mean, these just going
197to tell you, look at the work that went into these things. Oh my god, it felt it hurt to tell people I'm sorry. >> Um like I mean and this was a requirement for all of them but still >> that was like a lot of work. this establishing priorities. Where did they get this from? >> Uh based on what we were some of the things that >> the walk through and stuff. >> We want a two-story building, >> but it's not very high in there. Very light colored. >> Budget class is 200 22. I was reading >> safety and security. >> I was reading opposite >> orientation. >> No, but like so like the >> solar panels. >> No, >> the like the elementary that hallway that connects the old elementary to the elementary common.
198>> Oh, yeah. >> That's a north valley. So it doesn't get no sun and all the ice drain where the cafeteria is at. >> Yeah, behind it. >> No, behind it by the nurturing. >> I used to play jacks there at recess. >> And did you see did you see what the ice is doing to the wall to the >> It's a mess. Yes, we have. >> Sorry. Those are all the concerns >> um that we had. >> We should just build a threetory building. Well, I like I like I don't know if you guys have been school has like their their there's combined. So like elementary and high school, but all their elementary on the bottom >> and all their high schools on the top. >> I've not seen it. >> Easy to build
199and we can save money and then we can build like this really big >> community. They build one in the community. No, that's the building. >> Oh, is that the spot? Is that what that is? >> That's a spot. where they're at. No, work is where how much work they have. >> You will I am so sorry, Mr. I can't get you an answer, but I I will provide it for you. I'll find it and I'll let you know. >> Talk about the Benjamins. like just this is like a huge super huge >> built his own. >> We can save money by building on this one. Let me go ahead and wings and >> so we could do like a square square box and then like build that warehouse. >> Yeah. Build a warehouse but
200inside the warehouse would be like >> really nice >> like a town. It be like a wild minions. >> Yeah. Yeah. And you look at this. >> And you can make it really nice if you don't waste too much money like on like >> Oh, this is >> And then you could like we should have got the board and then >> I'm sorry. The good thing about this is that we already on our approval by June 13th of 2026. Seven months. So, >> and I'm going to say we are definitely on track. So, and I don't Was it you were there when they were asking? >> Oh, no. I like Miss uh Patricia, you were there when they were asking. Are you sure you're going to be there? Well, we are right there. >> Right.
201We are right. Exactly. We're actually I believe we're ahead. >> Um >> Yes. >> So, the community meetings are going to start. When did you say? Um I'll have to so we'll get all of that um situated once it gets approved by the board. >> I would recommend that when we do our community meetings that you do at the biggest place possible because you're going to have a lot of people. Uh yes, hopefully we have a lot of people. >> I think we will at the table. >> Oh yes. >> Okay. >> They turn to page 9. >> It's a different topic. Oh >> number if you go to nine. I mean, you're looking at it being like this is and you're seeing it on the the timeline is just it's >> I won't be
202able to look right. This is it's just a lot of information is um I just need to Yeah, >> they've done 300 plus what they say. No, this >> on the bottom left is that >> that's how excited I was and we're doing all of it in this election. 300 plus full projects in the southwest. >> So this is just the architecture of the buildings, right? So when we get to a separate plan like a separate the separate portion of this or like our um what that room is called in the old gym, >> there's that like >> in the gym. Yeah, in the old gym it was >> mean the the swimming room. >> In the old gym, there's a little room in the back and there has like stretching stuff and like equipment
203for goatee stuff. >> Yes, OT stuff. Are we going to be able to like incorporate those into our >> So, that will be all part of that discussion. >> That's what I'm asking. >> You make a big nice box and then you fill the box with really nice stuff. That's what we're kind of doing with option one, I think. Right. >> Well, and it's those are just ideas what they threw out. Um, so I don't have the number for you, Mr. Gonzalez, but I can get it for you. Um, >> and if we do find it on there, we'll be smart. >> I'd like to make a comment, Miss Valve. I think this the the the community is going to see a you're going to hear a lot more positive feedback as soon as we
204get this information out. Um because when I was campaigning it was dropped. >> Yes, I do. >> Yeah. So I think it's going to be a little >> Well, I guess I wasn't for something completely different but still yes. I I've heard a lot. So >> and I kept saying so there phases. So even though When I'm going to do that, I say this. >> Oh my gosh, Miss Flynn, >> I'm going to go show her a post. Are you on Are you still on, Flynn? >> Yes, I am. >> Okay, I'm going to go find the computer. Um the computer right here that I run. >> Yeah. >> What I'm going to do though, just so y'all know, I'm going to move to my phone because I do have to make it to Walmart
205before they close. So, I'll be on still, but I'm moving to my phone. >> Oh, okay. They didn't show you credit. >> Can you see what I'm doing? So, >> yes. >> And I'm probably >> I'm not sure if I could share with that with you, but I just think it was it was so amazing. Tell me when I'm in in focus. >> Um, so the committee that you just mentioned, can you see it? >> They're the ones that went through these evaluation factors and and >> they were the ones that scored the highest. Yes, >> I see the pay. I see what you're sharing on the screen, but I don't know what else you're trying to share. Yeah, because I can't I can't do it for that. >> Yeah, the only thing miss is
206that we ask that this not be shared out because I don't want people to get an idea. Oh, this is where they're going to put it or this is what we're going to do and that's not necessarily. >> So, we're not voting on we're not voting. >> It's not on the design. It's just on the >> we're voting on care. She's talking about Miss Martinez there. Sorry, I got my phone in Miss Martinez's phone. Are you Are you ready? >> Okay. Right. So, we've um we've already done a recommendation. Now, we need to do a roll call. So, we're we're doing the roll call for the um for the FBT architects roll, please. Mr. Jason Gonzalez, >> yes. >> Miss Patricia Martinez, yes. Miss Monique, >> yes. >> Miss Carolyn Grant, >> yes. >> Miss
207Gwen Simolo, >> yes. >> Motion carries for the um FBT architects. which I'm going to say thank you. Um, and I am so excited that I'm able to. This has been fun for me. This has been the highlight of so far. Um, next on the agenda for approval, this is coming for a second reading and I I do want to say I don't know who was going to hand it out and um just in this for us about the 88 cents. >> So we are so um as stated in the last meeting and restated for the second reading. So, this is just rebringing it to the board because well, we have to look at it every time there's a change and changes happen in July. So, we're rebringing it to the board. So, it's 88
208cents. And I know uh there was a question once said 66, one at 88. So, they're both supposed to be 88. And I do want to point out the way it reads is per mile for travel in a privatelyowned airplane. Um, if you guys have that privatelyowned airplane, I'm just saying there's some places I want to fly. >> Um, nothing really has changed um based on uh everything else that we got just at the 88. So, it's need to be switched. So we don't need to do discussion >> and we had we did the discussion first. >> You said that she was transitioning to her phone. Did you do the recommendation >> and oh so mad? >> Madame chair I re I would like to make the recommendation um approval of item 8 C and
2098 D. They're basically um they're similar just that one is for staff and one is for board members. >> Okay. So, you um heard the recommendation by the superintendent. Is there a motion? Moved >> by Mr. Gonzalez. Is there a second? >> I second. >> Second by Miss. >> Madam Secretary, roll call, please. I'm tired. I'm sorry. >> Mr. Jason Gonzalez. >> Yes. Miss Patricia Martinez, yes. Miss Monique, yes. Miss Caroline Grath, yes. Miss Glenn Simolo, >> yes. >> Okay. Motion carries. Madame Chair, at this time um I would like to recommend journal. Are >> we approving both at the same time? >> Yes. Yes. So maybe I should read that out. It's D3150 DKA Dc um >> um um expense authorization reimbursement and then D 3500 B board member compensation and we both of
210them together um because yeah and second readings. >> Thank you. Um I guess before we do agreement um we need to discuss next items. >> We do that in the agenda. >> I apologize. >> So I'm going to recommend um our special board meeting. What day is that going to be held? >> The second of December is that what you guys decided? I don't think we decided I just talked about it from now. However, >> what um >> I can't do it at 6. Yes. If we need to do it at a different time. >> Yes. Tuesday, December 2nd. >> Miss Mon, >> if you want to come here, I'll be here. >> I think I'll be home. >> Oh, okay. I think but we could be here. I don't know. We'll figure it out.
211Last time I came here. >> Okay. So, Tuesday, December 2nd. >> And then >> 6 o' online. >> Uh Gwen, would that work for you? >> Yes, that works for me. >> It should work for me. In that meeting we need to discuss um the cap and gown approval policy first reading. >> We also need to discuss uh review or approval of presentations the data presentation. Oh, I didn't know we did that. >> Um approval of the board um superintendent >> evaluation toolation tool >> and the allowing the before policy making a decision >> the cap >> for the class on the cap and gown outside of the policy. So we need to >> approve their black, >> right? Um now she said classroom. Um that I know we talked about the one that coach
212Max mentioned about from class to class. Are we going to do that then or for the next meeting? >> So the the discussion is um that money that was um collected >> from years ago $4,700. We're talking about getting it be let it go to the elementary as well as the high school. Is it the is is that what you're saying? So, elementary athletics or >> in general >> or just >> I think I think it' be discussion. I think we didn't discuss much. It was just it was just um public comment. So, we couldn't discuss it. >> Oh, so then Miss Gonzalez the concern about >> it was something that had already been approved. >> Yeah. >> By the board a previous. So maybe we need to do some research from now and then
213to what our I mean lend us some research on what that would look like. >> Bring it back in December. >> Not not the special board meeting. Yeah. So then we then do I not give Miss APA an update because my update would have been this has already been waterproof that it goes to the seniors and juniors of the classes. It's 4,000. What I heard her say, and let me know we can't talk about it, but what I heard her say here this evening was I'm assuming she's talking about the time that right before this meeting we were going to. I think Miss Martinez and I were at that meeting and Miss Janice was there and you were there and Annette was there. But >> she had so what she had asked is if she
214can go out and ask those classes for the funding. >> Yes. >> Um and at the time I didn't know that there was a policy and I had asked um I had asked and they said no. So that's why it actually came back up. So I what we told her that we needed to do was investigate to see where we were at and then bring it back to the board to see if this is something that you guys approved because it's the finance. And at that time the company couldn't leave the class of and then that's when Miss uh Bissell said no it's it has already been approved but then when we went back and we found that it was approved in 2021. So we >> technically there's already there's already a place. >> What
215was Miss Atha's? >> She wanted to go to the basketball team, >> elementary, >> but she said that the that money was there was money raised that they that disappeared. >> No, >> it did not disappear. It's >> so elementary girls basketball has but she's recommending these monies start an elementary basketball like league >> like a consistent always having an elementary basketball team. >> I thought I heard her say that there was a lot of money that was raised that raised somewhere else. >> No, it hasn't it didn't go anywhere else. It's in their account. Uh the girls basketball the boys don't have as much. they haven't raised, but the girls definitely raised quite a bit. My, and I want to make sure that I'm stating that my concern is that there's already a policy
216in place. Um, I mean, this has been since 2021, policies can be changed and updated. >> Um, but like you said, if someone's if you if you do it now for elementary and and the others campus, then where else? I mean that's the two campuses >> and I wasn't here when they made that recommendation. >> Where else can it go? >> What was the reason? What was the reason why they said for the seniors and juniors in the following year? I'm sure that whoever petitioned for that to happen. Yes. >> I mean I don't know if we can continue talking about this but that's the only recommendation I make is because we didn't we couldn't talk about it during public comment. I would like to at least talk about it in discussion at our next
217board. So that would be in the December >> regular. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Right. And then as far as meeting with Miss Cordova at the December NMSA meeting, is anyone interested? >> Um are we still talking about December board meeting? >> No. >> The special board meeting? >> Oh, special meeting. Yes. That's when so that's not a special meeting. >> And then the December board meeting we talked about those I don't even ask other class I didn't ask I didn't miss symbol >> oh go ahead. So miss symbol miss symbol. >> Yes. >> Are you going to the December uh board meeting the NMS? I am. >> Would you be interested in meeting with Miss Cordoba for a training for about an hour? >> Um, yeah. I I don't see why not. >> Over
218there. Okay. All right. Thank you. The the it's not >> solid as far as what time and stuff, but >> hold on. Just needed to know. >> I didn't hear you. I'm sorry. There's no details yet, but it I just wanted to know. >> Yeah. Yeah, I can. >> Would you be with Miss Gonzalez? >> I was going to ask if you guys would be okay if I did not attend uh that meeting and not because I don't want to attend. I will if you want me to. But the B the very follow that Monday um right after that I'm I will be going CES. I had my dreams a few days before and I'll be gone the whole week and I I'm concerned of being gone almost two weeks in a row. Um gets
219me nervous. Um so I was ask if you guys would be okay that I did not attend that Easter Gonzalez would take my money's already put in. You're going >> I thought I heard you say wis >> what about um Miss Thistle? >> Would she be going to that? She's none of the elected aren't >> they're not that's not where they get um >> sworn in January in January. Okay. >> I've been there before so it doesn't have to be a board member. Well, you can go. You want to go? >> I was saying about Miss Bissell, but >> yeah. >> I did not state this um and I should have and I want to commend both of them. So, um part of my job is and part of their job as well is to
220build our is to build our leaders. um them to build the teachers that we were interested in becoming principles and mine to build the ones so that are interested in being a superintendent. So, I have been including them in a lot of a lot of meetings. Um, hard meetings. Uh, and I'm going to say this, it's hard to admit when you don't know for a lot of people and hearing them say, I I don't know. I'm not sure how I would handle that.
