right now whether it is at our open meetings that we allow anyone and everyone to join on those zooms um whether it's through contributions like our shine on postcard campaign that we've been doing for over four years with over 24 000 postcards that have gone out free to our young people in the community for united nations international youth day or when we talk about the work that we're doing with bcse with spark week and throughout the county and that's coming up during suicide prevention month in september we know that working together with our young people the schools our community that that we can really provide the best environment for all young people to thrive so i think i'll end with that um and hopefully made it within my time limit dr robert but i bet

you have some questions there may be some questions questions yeah i have one and forgive me if this is a dumb one because i know there are dumb questions but on the um i guess it's the the big the strategic maps yeah yeah under professionals yeah the community certificate program yes d.a and dr what does it say well sorry and those are developmental assets and developmental relationships and mr grimes you went straight to the thing that we talked about did we need to make sure that we had written out everything so developmental assets and development relationship frameworks actually came from originally the counseling council initiative and what we recognized was the developmental asset profile survey that our students took in bcsc the initiatives could go with the research and the support and the frameworks and

so our community organizations are also doing onboarding their new staff in those two social motion well-being frameworks so that there is quality service and supports that are happening in the community that echo what's happening in the classrooms so it's really to have a common language a common approach not just in bcse but also in the community so where our young people go when they leave school at the end of the day that they're getting some of those same quality of experience and quality of support outside of bcsc thank you yeah great thank you other questions go ahead sure i i love that so much of the master plan deals with uh it gets right to the end with outcomes measures indicators so that we'll know how we're doing and where we need to focus more

attention perhaps in the future could you also give us a story maybe about a person or people um sure so there's so many things that have been connected even to bcse over the years with council for youth development i would say one of our proudest is we piloted the youth ambassadors so you may have seen those in the newspaper or you may have seen it in some of the work that's happening those youth ambassadors there were 19 that we piloted this year those high school students from across the county most of them from bcsc and those students over the course of the year actually built their skills and built their experience around service learning so as an example they actually helped put on and design the youth empowerment summit where other high schools were a

part of so our students are really applying all these principles in these frameworks in a really easy way for them to to give back to the community and also really have them um increase their own kind of self-confidence and personal identity as well so lots of different examples but that is probably one of my favorites we have quite a few youth ambassadors that have decided to stay when they graduate and go to school at ivy tech and iupuc and i think that's a really marvelous thing that we're going to be able to even as alumni for youth ambassadors will be able to continue to give back in the community so that's pretty special thank you awesome so so i'm curious um 2025 is really pretty close yes so so i'm i'm curious as to that

you have baseline data and you're and you've got goals for three years i mean i'm imagining a lot of this would continue and or expand a past but but you've you've set a pretty um ambitious ambitious that's a good word um so could you elaborate sure i think for us it it really hasn't been it's been a journey from the beginning so this truly started in 2017 so we see that we many of the things that that you see here actually are pretty realistic we are already in the process of working towards these goals so this isn't pie in the sky many of these things as even dr roberts was on the vision 2025 task team we were very realistic of saying these strategic objectives where are they going to fit best in the work

that's happening right now and if you if you go in a little bit deeper here you're going to see that some of this has to be the responsibility of the coalition and kind of the leadership but much of this is also lifting up our community partners that are already doing great work including bcse so for us we see this as a realistic um timeline to get us it's still ambitious but really we think that because we have the operational plan to go with it we know that what infrastructures do we need to create to make sure that we get as close as we can in 2025 and really for us you know thinking if we really are this moonshot in 2030 um with kind of equity in general we have to get there we have

to start somewhere and that is mapping out as best we can right so i imagine you'll be working closely with the two coordinators that we now have on our team yes i tried to contain myself to make sure i wasn't like whooping it up when but this is this is really actually it's an excellent investment i would say that regardless to me it's really thinking forward-facing for a school district to say yes we're going to commit and invest in a wellness director and multicultural director to me this is exactly what every school district should be doing so i applaud the leadership that made this decision and boy i think we've got two amazing people so thank you yeah so i this may not be a question for you heather but can you give examples of

how bcsc is a part or sharing data or working collaboratively on projects do we put not 20. no it's okay i just don't know if we put mr jensen and mr edwards on the spot mr edwards is on our side it seems like you just did mr jensen i love putting you on the spot [Music] okay and like the developmental assets and growth in those areas absolutely awesome and i will just brag too that you know what's really exciting is that we have bcsc faculty administrators that are willing to do professional development training like mr edwards did a implicit bias training with indiana youth institute locally he didn't have to do that but he was already committed to this mr jensen as just another example when we started really this ambitious idea of doing onboarding

new staff and community organizations with a certificate program mr jensen was a part of making sure that those trainings were not only tested but that we were we really vetted the resources that would go with it so those are just two but like dr hack and miss pleek and everybody that's that's a part of this it's it's it's pretty deep in terms of the commitment with bcsc and that's on purpose because really for us the idea is that we want to help push bcsc wherever they need to go from a community and kind of support and aligning the work as opposed to dictating what needs to happen or say that a particular type of program needs to happen the idea is that we can work together using the resources that we have to help our

kids wonderful thank you are there other questions no question just make maybe uh bringing our attention back to this slide heather uh the three items at the top the concerns that are stated from a data standpoint i'm not sure how well our public understands you know some of the challenges that we have across our school district across our county in terms of neighborhood neighborhood or whatever and so if you wouldn't mind maybe just reading those again and sure and these are you know for us the youth development index really highlights this as well so on our website you can get directly to really these data indicators but these three are probably three of the most concerning that that really for many of us it's a call to action so when we look at this first

one that dr roberts is pointing out i'll just read these since some of you it might be difficult to see that neighborhoods where a child is born may have a poverty rate that is 42 percent higher than the neighborhood next door and we're talking about just bartholomew county so this isn't where you know for us it is absolutely our boundaries what are our young people and what are our families experiencing so can you imagine just based on where you are the situation that you're in that that big of a difference in terms of your financial stability the second one is the medium household income in one neighborhood maybe as much as 66 000 higher than another and those are households with children so for us that is just incredulous it is not where we want

to be and we're not satisfied with that and then finally the last one really is probably the most disturbing and that has to do with um 17 through 17.3 years difference on an average for a child in terms of life expectancy so we are we are not ready to give up on any of this we think we are finding creative and innovative ways to solve this and we're solving it with young people and with parenting adults and with professionals so the idea is we're going to need all of us to be working on this and not pointing fingers but instead helping each other out with a couple good things happening thank you yes very nice thank you very much thank you all right we are at that point on our agenda to afford my colleagues

sharing board commendations so i'm ready i know mr grimes well thanks dr chet well i've actually got the shortest list that i've ever had and dr roberts covered a bulk of it but um in the intro regarding the bcsc alumni but be too weird for me to not say something so i'll probably repeat a little what he said and maybe add some new so and i think they're worthy of mentioning again jennifer rumsey columbus east purdue mit graduate on being appointed the first woman to ever serve as the ceo of commons and the other that i wanted to mention i happened to go to school with lee bridges north grad who won state track state titles in 84 and 85 in the 400 went on to become an all-american at the university of illinois and

just about a week ago i think as dr roberts mentioned uh in finland won the world championships in the 400 for his age group and lee a super nice guy and an incredibly humble guy has a goal of setting the world record in his age group for both the 400 and the 200 within the next year is there a couple events coming up through united states track and field will where he'll have the opportunity to do that so cool stuff for some bcsc alumni there awesome thank you are there others yes well the presentation we had tonight i'd i'd like for heather to carry back to the council uh the board's commendations for the work that the council and all the partner agencies and organizations that are participating in this important work but then also

and heather probably won't mention this at the meeting but we're very lucky as a community to have heather in the position that she's in the skills skills experience and persistence that heather brings to the physician has really helped make a difference at the council and in the community at large wonderful thank you i'm not hearing any others and no one has signed up for public comments so we get to move on so i'm turning to my colleagues if you have any reports from committees or work that you've done that you'd like to share please go ahead please thanks dr shan uh just a couple things to the the school foundation school foundation is currently about midway through their annual campaign giving hearts for growing minds a lot of donations coming in white river dental has

just signed on as a sponsor for events through the 22-23 school year and the director of the foundation nicole cunningham has has a number of other sponsorship meetings scheduled uh in the near future with several other local companies um the school foundation's also recently refreshed their advertising through through white river broadcasting and also a plug for august 13th to be celebrated perhaps is kind of a close to get back to the beginning of school event brighter futures for all 5k at the soccer complex saturday august 13th 8 30 and walk or run and we hope to have a lot of people there as proceeds will go to the unrestricted fund of the school foundation and you can register at bcsfstars.org awesome thank you for that anyone else i'm not forgetting you pat all the way

down there okay just checking all right next we have cabinet reports and it appears the first one is from dr bozeman good evening thank you for giving us a few minutes to about this time of year every year to review some of our projects that we have been working on and continue to work on i will before i do this i will introduce and reintroduce some of our staff greg ferguson is our project manager he's working with primarily parkside and the north and east athletic project now paul garland is our manager of maintenance he is retiring effective friday so we we thank paul for his time in bcsc in several different roles and transitioning to drew mynet who is our new manager of maintenance we're excited to have drew join our team he comes to

us from brown county he's a columbus resident and we're happy to happy to have him here so i just want to thank those guys and and introduce you to drew as we talk about some of our improvements that we've we've done here so whenever we talk about our facilities we always remind folks of our guiding values and principles that we that you have helped us develop through strategic planning and otherwise when we we meet with the building principles and leadership each summer and go through needs that exist and and these are not necessarily in particular order but there is special attention to the safe and welcoming we we believe quite firmly that if if students don't feel safe and welcome in our schools and it's it's more challenging to to learn and achieve academic success

so so we do use those filters as we look for input from building administrators on how to make improvements to our buildings and how do we budget accordingly i'll talk about a few projects here and certainly leave questions at the end if you have if you have questions or time for questions at the end rather the most of these should not be news to you we've discussed them several times but we are in the midst of a parkside elementary renovation interior renovation to that building somewhere in the neighborhood of about 12 million dollars everything that i'll discuss here tonight are all tax neutral projects i'll remind you of that also at the at the very end but some of these items that are included in parkside would be the inclusion of dedicated stem labs for

students emotional wellness centers that i'll show an example here flexible learning spaces technology enhancements and then some exterior site improvements this project as i mentioned is around 12 million dollars and it is on the street as we say for bid right now maxwell is our construction manager as constructor partner with this um and there's been a tremendous amount of time and energy spent on this project to get it out there we're all a little anxious and nervous and et cetera given the current circumstances in the industry but it is on the street and we have several groups that are very interested in this project i'll share a few photos and renderings here with you this is just a photo of a of a current state of a classroom and then the this in this case

is a primary classroom so not a tremendous amount of difference in the design and the layout of the classroom so in this case you'll see the windows will be replaced if they haven't been already most of the windows there are due for replacement some have already been done but the cabinetry will be updated the furniture the the flooring you'll notice in this example um the exposed beams are there now and they will remain so there's several items of architectural significance with this building that are very important and that will remain with the project so as you as you look at parkside from the outside you may not notice anything different the barrel roofs are there all the architectural significances that are that are present will remain but many interior innovations the the second example is

is a little more obvious with changes so this is looking outside of that same classroom that's the harrison room on the right there which is a large group space on the inside of that wall to the left are boys and girls gang style restrooms and this what this will look like here under renovation from that same view is basically that wall is gone and this is an expanded flexible learning space so in this case this would be maybe a second grade example to where you're looking at two other second grade classrooms across the atrium there and then behind that green wall in the middle would be a small group room so featuring a lot of glass a lot of clean lab type space in here for students students can come out here and learn at

the tables while the instructor is inside they can see and kids can move a little more freely between classrooms for instruction in in this example the um the restrooms are behind that small group room so if you picture if you walk through that classroom and turn left there's a coat area there and then two individual restrooms there so the gender neutral and the elimination of those gang style restrooms that that you saw in the in the previous example here so something else of note here the beams the the beams there are beams there but they're behind that drop ceiling so they'll be um exposed again and then you can see the natural light use of the natural light in the space there as well so the i won't get into too much of this but

this is a a two-year project that will happen with students in the building of course uh this is too large of a project to just be done over the course of several summers uh parkside and mr smith and miss bodart have been great with working with us on this but they'll utilize uh temporary classrooms to make this happen so they've freed up some space and those temporary classrooms are in a position now to where they're they're ready for students in the four rooms to the bottom right but then once matters are ready to go they'll utilize the gym for additional temporary classroom space and then they basically rotate classrooms through the temporary classrooms in each of the phases which are about nine weeks long each so in this model this has this the first phase

completing around christmas of this year which is phase two on your map here the pink color i only know primary color so we'll call that pink and then each of the phases nine weeks in duration through february of of 24. i mentioned a couple of of particular items that we'll highlight here so these wellness centers which we will include here at parkside elementary goes well in line with with with heather's presentation earlier these are things that we in bcsc value and now we're designing our buildings to reflect that value so in this case if you're a student walking near the office you may turn left for physical wellness to see the clinic and see the nurse or you may turn right to seek emotional wellness where where counselors are and and have dedicated spaces for

these these type of services similarly there's a dedicated uh purposeful stem lab in the building uh this is on the west side of the building at parks elementary so in the past you know we've been fortunate with with dr pleek and dr hack and mr phillips to dedicate time and resources and staff for stem instruction at the elementary level and our facilities will start to reflect that as we as we dedicate and build these specific stem labs as we seek to reflect the needs of the community as we've heard loud and clear that this is a priority in columbus athletic improvements this is currently put out to bid scheduled here in early fall or so and the items i have listed there you've seen this before but this will be the construction of a new

softball field at east high school baseball field improvements also at east high school a new concession and locker room building field lighting and visitor football bleacher renovations and then the addition of lighting at the baseball and softball fields at north high school serving north high school at south elementary so this project is is going to be broken up into a few different uh bid releases but early falls when we'll put this out on the street so to speak again tax neutral and just as a reminder this is the location where that new softball diamond will be at east high school it's currently a parks and rec uh baseball field that you see that we work really closely with parks and rec with the city for that project so we're excited we're excited to get that

out to bid here also soon as well other esser and federal dollar projects that we have that are upcoming hvac hvac improvements at schmidt elementary and then building control projects north and east are already underway we are expecting those to be done by the end of december of 22 and then some cliff some excuse me some hvac control replacements of the the other buildings that are listed and then boiler replacement at northside middle school which is already complete we also have 2.1 million dollars budgeted in 2020 for capital project funds cpf uh this is i don't know how many projects we have 115 or so 112 smaller type projects usually under 100 000 or so at all the buildings including this one so it's a sampling of some of those projects that i have listed

here security camera upgrades and art renovation at fadria we have a lot of buildings that are in need of restroom renovations so we we tackle those and then other flooring needs i have a few photos to show with you show of these items here it's a new renovated gym floor at richards elementary that's that's drew looking over like a proud father of the gym floor there he seems very happy with the way it looks uh rock creek elementary had some elevation um issues to address there and made some improvements there rock creek this is the bus slot at north high school that's been seal coated and painted but more importantly the installation of the safety bollards here if you've been by there in the afternoons you'll see a lot of kiddos out there transitioning between

buses so under that safety category of our guiding values and principles this was a need identified a lot of flooring changes that's north high school athletic training center that's a two-year project that's complete now on the right and as i mentioned a lot of bathroom renovations i won't i won't share with you all the bathroom photos but there's a sample there for you some cabinetry at rock creek elementary some other interior improvements at taylorsville elementary then the final photo i have here for you carpet replacement third floor at east high school that carpet was due for replacement after it was end of life from the from the renovation in in 2009 or so so that's a that's the second phase of a three-phase project there at east high school so just a sampling of some

of the cpf projects that we have i've been working on throughout the calendar year and continue to do so and i am happy to and the team is happy to answer any questions that you may have thanks so much day hofdwyer is dying to ask a question go ahead yes i am columbus north athletic room so what how i'm trying to choose my words wisely here um so i know as a past student there and other students there is some art behind the wall that was done in the athletic office area there's a wall that's only so big that they could put the skinniest kid through and actually see this art so and then i also know seniors have signed the ceiling tiles and done stuff on the wall is there any way that we

could preserve that somehow some way whether it's taking photographs it's doing something because i know when i was there i know of the the big mural that a student did that's behind the hidden mall because i actually got to see it when it was done so it's part of history as we talk about history and there's we just have is there any way we can save any of that we will do our best i'm i'm glad you said hidden wall because i was going to because i don't know what that is but now you have me intrigued and i'll go look at it before i go into the office first thing in the morning i'm looking greg he's shrugging his shoulders so without giving empty promise we will look at it and do our best

and i'm going to find the hidden wall myself okay well if you need some assistance there's someone in the audience that also knows about the hidden wall because when mr souter before he left we all talked about the hidden wall and elizabeth dwyer can assist you in locating the hidden wall noted thank you who knew all right are there other questions anyone has for dr bozeman all right there is a lot going on thank you so much and thank the whole team thank you for everything you're doing for our students and our staff now it's dr please turn good evening here to give an update on our pathway to teacher licensure last year if you recall we came to your approval to use user funds to help recruit and retain teachers and look for creative

ways so we launched a paraeducator pathway and we hired we currently have seven individuals hired in full-time positions going to school to obtain their bachelor's degree for us so that is working very successfully it's a four-year commitment from us and we're excited for that and so an update is we are continually asked what else we're going to do what other approaches staff members are asking the doe is also asking corporations to be as creative as possible with recruiting and retaining teachers there are a lot of articles going across the state about the over 2 400 jobs posted in education across our state and i figured you might ask so we have a 19.5 openings currently for our positions for teachers but our next two opportunities that we launched last monday we started met with jana

from the republic had an interview there we launched recordings on qmix we sent emails to all of our building lists as well as community agencies sharing our new announcement we had on qmix i have to mention we had stacey dao our teacher of the year record it so it's great hearing her she did a great job but the two that we have that we are going to do this year and track and monitor is a transition to teaching pathway paraeducator and it is for educators that have bachelor's degrees currently that are interested in becoming teachers but they don't feel that they're ready for a classroom yet they want to gain some experience um forefront in the classrooms because at this time currently people with bachelor's degrees not in education can apply for education or teaching

positions go back to school and work at that time but last year we kept hearing from a lot of them that were interested but they weren't ready for the teaching position yet so we launched two initiatives last week one is for to hire is people with bachelor degrees that want to become teachers as instructional tas in the areas whether it's elementary or secondary and in the content area that they choose for them to apply for the position the position was posted last monday we have information sessions one was tonight and the other one is wednesday night we had 30 attend this evening we have 62 signed up to learn more that have bachelor's degrees so we're excited the other thing that we mentioned is we currently do have teachers in our classrooms on emergency permits

or transition to teaching permits and we will probably hire some that will need to do that as well before school starts so that we're looking at a tuition reimbursement for teachers up to six credits each semester there will be an mou memorandum of understanding that both groups will sign for both of these initiatives but it's just trying to be as creative with esther dollars as possible and to maximize the funding to help meet our strategic plan our vision of being the choice to learn work and play and also in our focus area of excellence and high expectations to attract and retain a diverse high quality staff and part of that is implementing an educator development and recruitment program so these are the new next two steps we will be taking um to do our best

to attract and retain the best educators in front of our students so i wanted to give you the update there a lot going on any questions with that right any questions yeah miss friends yeah dr pleek um i've actually got i think three former students who have bachelor's degrees they currently do not like their their profession and have expressed an interest to me in becoming teach in becoming teachers so i told them i would investigate and get back to them so um who would be the would you or someone else here be the best contact person for me to recommend them to come to here give them my email address please bcsc yeah yes me send it to me very good thank you absolutely and so with that i will mention that when we get

into it they have to apply for the position we are going to interview but we will have elementary and secondary principals serving on the interview teams because i told them this is a very important thing that we were doing and these people could actually be sitting as teachers next year in our classroom so we need to hire the best ones this year so they're ready next year awesome awesome other questions all right thank you so much i appreciate the initiatives mr phillips good evening dr shed board members thank you this is the second quarter financial report go over each quarter i'll go relatively quickly because there's not a lot of uh variants to point out to you from a revenue perspective education fund up about six and a half percent which is expected with the

adm growth and per pupil tuition support operations fund and operating fund both up about five and a half little more than five and a half percent with mainly due to assessed value growth in the last year an expenditure side the the biggest variance here it looks like we're spending less on salaries and benefits this is an awkward year because there are only for bcsc anyway there were only 12 pays in the first six months of this year there's usually 13 and 13. always balances out for the most part this is just an awkward year both of the three pay months for us this year are in in the second half of the year so the variance there is entirely due to the fact that in the first half of last year we paid covet stipends

and because we only had 12 pays in the first six months of this year i'll also point out that um just to remind you we did a two-year teacher contract last year when we gratified that negotiating and the deal with the teachers and so that starts in august and will also take effect in the second half of this year just to refresh your memory that was about 6.1 increase for teachers and changed the minimum salary for starting salary to 44 600 and the maximum to ninety thousand dollars with the operating referendum in there i thought i'd refresh your memories about that there's no other reason for us to talk about that at this point uh in the year unless we're negotiating um on the operation side expenditures the salaries and benefits look more balanced there

mainly because folks get paid for the work they do by hour in those months regardless of how many pays there were as well as the nine percent increase that we put into effect for all support staff in july of last year had already taken effect in the first half of this year this does not reflect the more recent increases that you approved last month on operating referendum no notable variances there teacher salaries higher than what they were in the last year and we expect that to continue to creep up as more and more teachers are retained and hit those those experience increases that are part of that operating referendum as far as a fund cash balances point at this point in the year this is with any tax anticipation warrants that we had we did

not borrow any tax anticipation warrant money this year in the operations fund again due to the large cash balance we didn't need it and uh also in the debt service funds and so you can see those look lower than they were before um i know dr shed you usually ask questions about the health and dental trust because we've all experienced some pain in there in the prior years the decline there is about seven hundred thousand dollars over um last year so the cash balance between health and dental combined is about seven hundred thousand dollars less than it was last year thankfully that represents about one paycheck that's how much money comes out of between bcsc's contributions and the employees contributions um that is about one paycheck and so that's exactly what's missing in the 12

pays we had in the first year so had we had 13 pays in the first six months of this year that would be a we would have about the same exact cash balance that we had last year at this time awesome thank you when you take algae [Laughter] do these enough you anticipate the questions when you take the taxi anticipation warrant money out of the picture this is the actual cash balances at the uh projected i guess if you projected this six months through the end of the year after we pay back any of the tax anticipation warrants and you can see in most cases the balances are healthy and a little bit higher than what they were last year happy to answer any questions you might have thanks well mine's taken care of any

other questions that you all have well it's great news thank you for sharing great news with us all right it's your turn dr roberts all right i have a number of approval requests as is typical i'll start off with letter a through e being ones that we typically have i guess letter e is a little bit of a change um minutes of regular school board meeting from june 13th supplemental contracts um school fundraisers claims and payroll then we have slipped in that letter e 2022-2023 reopening plan and we have a statement there and i'll need to clarify that just for you for a little bit if you recall the last couple of years our reopening plan has been pretty detailed we've had a lot of conversation on that um it's it's a little bit more

simple this year but things that uh that revolve around safety aren't always the most simple there will be some complications i'll talk about here just a second but the statement that we have on our website that is required for esser funding so this is a requirement to continue to receive esser funds as you have to have something basically saying you're going to have a reopening plan to go back to school and so that statement says that we plan to return to in-person full-day instruction with no covet 19 restrictions for the upcoming school year pending approval by you all now that no covert 19 restrictions i don't want that to be too confusing what we are trying to say here is that we're basically starting next year as we ended the last year so so masks

and specific social distancing all those kind of very specific things that we put in place are not necessarily a part of the plan however you know we still will stress the hand washing pieces and we have all the the sanitation areas available for washing hands and all the things that we put in place over a couple of years period of time to be more safe than we were before will continue as a normal part now of our processes and procedures but we have no specific recommendations to you to start the school year differently for this next one than we ended the last school year so that's still continuing the virtual pathway yes correct yes so as a really just a new pathway for us right is our columbus virtual pathway a real quick aside or

note on that is that uh and i said i think all of you know regarding this we did ask for a waiver for this year for that that pathway not to yet be considered a school because there are things that come along with being at school different reporting requirements and other other stuff and so we did ask for a waiver for a year to make sure we understand what that enrollment is going to look like longer term and we were granted that waiver in addition we may have had to come to you with a calendar revision if uh our waiver for the calendar had not been granted which does still allow us to have the professional development day so just a quick aside uh somewhat related to the reopening plan well i'm on this topic

and i said that you know safety anything related to safety is is not always a simple covet 19 we're going to start the year as we ended the last school year but other things from a safety standpoint we are having to pay close attention to yesterday was kind of an interesting day from a reflection standpoint in in a bad way really and that the investigative report on the uvalde tragedy came out and i don't know if you've had a chance to see that but there's some stuff that we'll we'll learn from but a lot of a lot of issues challenges problems and then there was a tragic incident that occurred at the greenwood park mall and i think that everybody is now aware that the citizen involved with interrupting the shooting at the mall was

a student of ours a 2018 csa new tech graduate eli dicken is is that individual's name i think eli now lives in seymour but was a bartholomew county kid and graduated from our school system and we were certainly grateful that that eli was able to distract the shooter from taking more lives in that that situation but we're also sorry that eli had to be involved in such a tragic incident and certainly offer our condolences to the families who did still lose loved ones um as as we reflect on those things it i just want to let you remind you that the norm for us uh regardless of the stuff that's happening and we certainly acknowledge them pay attention to them and try to learn them but we we use the time that we're given like

this summer to review all of our structures buildings facilities all our processes protocols that we have in place to still to try to provide the safest learning environment for our kids so whether it's talking about covet 19 and whatever it takes to to to try to protect kids from any virus or spread of disease we're also looking at all those other things that are on fresh in our mind right now unfortunately we know the safety and we've talked a lot with again kind of an amazing night in terms of my coincidence to some degree having a couple of approvals and heather being here to talk about the plan that we know that it's safety is a priority and it's necessary to achieve the key purpose of our existence which is to have kids learn and

students who feel safe both emotionally and physically are going to learn is very difficult to do so if they don't so we will continue to have discussions with you in regards to stuff that we're doing we have ideas thoughts uh some things we'll share with our administrative council as we get ready some of them are reminders what we learned that sometimes over time even though we have processes and protocols in place maybe those aren't always followed to the degree that they should be a door open perhaps or left open perhaps so so we'll remind and also talk about improvements uh we do have a strategic planning session with you all on friday the 29th in safety and what we're doing to start the school year will be a topic that we'll discuss further with you

so i want to build that into this conversation that covered 19 is a safety related thing and we've done things with coven 19 and closing school and never really closing school we had school but it was just a very different way kids maybe not in person all the time they will be in person parents for full day instruction to begin the 22-23 school year we're not asking for mass and that doesn't there are not mass on the bus so those kinds of things so we're trying to be clear with that statement make sure people understand if you go to our website because it is under our cover 19 tab so that's the way we've chosen to word it hopefully you'll accept that wording and understand what we're referring to there letter f that i have

is just that neola policy second reading 5330 that is on use of medication in our school buildings and just a little bit different times perhaps whereas things change we note those legislative changes and what's now allowed and that was the low thc hemp where there are prescriptions being given to students and if that is the case there's a way for that to be handled within our schools as our other prescribed medications we just wanted to point that out you had the first reading on that one back in june so those are i believe each of my approvals let me see here just making sure to clarify the claims we did from a claims and payroll standpoint have um a total of almost three million dollars for july 18th today and then we had a pre-run

of june 1st june 30th a little over 13 million dollars um the payroll for june 4th to or a set of payrolls through june 4th july 1st is a little over 5 million dollars um you see the information there about how that works out so those are the items that i have for your approval this evening all right thanks so i'll um entertain a motion to approve items a through f as dr roberts has presented them to us thank you miss brian in a second second thank you mr grimes are there questions individuals have about any of the a through f stuff all right hearing none all those in favor of items a through f as they've been presented to us if you'd signify by saying i i those opposed not a soul so they

are passed unanimously thank you very much all right we do choose to end each of our meetings with the opportunity for individuals to offer input or comment based on all the information that we've heard so i'll start with mr grimes um just want to say thank you to mrs carson for taking the time to be here this evening and sharing all the current work going on at cyd and the master plan for the future so thank you thank you miss dan congratulations to you ladies for getting voted in and we look forward to seeing your great work thank you mr stenner uh just you know my colleagues have started the work that we've talked about tonight council for youth development our multicultural coordinator and our director of wellness very important work wonderful thank you mr

stenner mr bryant way down there [Laughter] yes i did and what chair were you thinking of chairs you were just helping a person across the gymnasium just one more reference to the couple hires we had tonight i should have mentioned this earlier but just a reminder that angie is replacing kimberly easton um and kimberly had done a great job of moving several things forward for us and angie did mention those guiding teams and trying to move it forward but as we as we learned this thing's kind of moving and kathy mentioned history and and remembering history and then trying to figure out how we get better as we move forward i know that angie will do that and kristin is replacing an individual who did a great job getting our counseling counts things started i

mentioned dr moore but just want to make sure that he has has some credit there a big team and we kind of reference that again with the the hel the uh council fee development work and so forth but a lot of effort over what has it been five five years six years now five um six yeah so 16 i guess so very much looking forward to kristin taking that moving that forward as well as all the other things to work with heather and others in this community to take care of some of the needs we have like that data though it took a few minutes to talk about so congratulations to them once again sure well i do want to give credit to our leadership thank you for thinking about needing a wellness coordinator and
