001[Music] [Applause] so [Music] oh foreign hello i can't i love your face [Music] boy so thank you i'm joined by jacob clarke head football coach of the audible northside middle school spartans and loved and joined by many coach clark thanks for joining me today what do you know about this sophomore well coach this southport team is always a wily opponent they have dangerous weapons all around the field uh a returning a two-year returning starter at quarterback running back much improved returning starter and just a variety of weapons on the outside that can get loose at any time hoping those bulldog defenders are ready and able to read their keys and stay in keep those cardinals in front of them otherwise it could be a long night southport opens a season 0-2 a loss to a
002state powerhouse roncalli and a loss against their rival i stay across town but all right sorry about that we'll try it this way so southport opens the season 0-2 looks like they lost their their week one game at roncalli state power and lost a home game against perry meridian who's a rival of theirs anything you know about those two contests that you picked up on coach yeah well obviously there's no shame in that opening season loss at roncalli the defending state champs really coming off a tremendous season at 4a they took a little hiatus from the top of 4a power and are now back in control that state championship game they were able to put up huge points against my brickies from hobart i believe they scored 55 points in the state championship um won
003that 55-7 and then you know perry meridian is a much improved team this year not only are they an improved team but that is a rivalry game anything can happen in those rivalry games as as we bulldogs experienced last week at columbus east the rivalry game really hinges on three or four plays and if they go your way it can be a good night for you so no shame in either of those losses and definitely athletes everywhere on the field for southport tonight as mentioned the bulldogs have their home opener here at max anders field tonight they've had two road contests one across town and one across the state really down in gibson southern so one and one the bulldogs entered the contest tonight they lost to the gibson southern team that we mentioned they've
004got a pretty good quarterback down there coach clark you might know something about him and then of course the 28-0 [Music] monstrous win last saturday morning postponed because of weather over the the neighborhood columbus east olympians yeah gibson southern is number four actually they've moved up since then they're number two in 3a right now with a quarterback a d1 quarterback allen going to purdue next year that guy can sling it around the yard in addition to other division one talents that they have that is a very very tough 318 and then last year last week's win at columbus east man uh you know like i said previously those rivalry games can absolutely be brutal uh just went well for the bulldogs last week i thought the defensive line played tremendously well in that win and
005we're looking forward to them to step up again tonight and put some big pressure on school this is an southport event that bulldogs host and try to have all the youth football programs all the way from the little ones up up through the eighth graders here they can get in the gates for free and most of them have their journeys on and um what a cool opportunity to come out and dream the dream this is what keeps indiana high school football alive is these young ones and the taylorsville bears and the powell football league both represented tremendously well tonight they put in long hard hours in the sun and get to play on saturdays and dream about one night playing on friday night and then it's a lot closer for those middle schoolers who you
006know whether they're at central north side this is their dream to come out on play on friday nights we really appreciate the leadership here at columbus north high school inviting them to come out and enjoy this evening [Music] [Applause] is [Applause] he's a three-year starter he's a gritty football player he wills this team to victory uh he is willing to do what it takes he has no individual ego just a great team leader like i said a three-year starter in 6a football in conference indiana he's been around the block he knows what to expect and a very great tough leader for the bulldogs [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign oh absolutely the offense hinges off of number two and what he does he makes great reads you know dylan got a lot of uh clean up time
007last year backing up the tremendous running back the bulldogs had last year but now it's his turn and as that offensive line begins to gel and come together i expect to see bigger things out of mr redmond as far as his numbers are concerned but i'm also very proud he also doesn't care about the yardage he cares about the team and the win and that's that's really what's important here for the bulldogs you know it's going to be really interesting to see what they do with their base alignment they they start off and they look like a 4-4 cover three but they've got a hybrid linebacker safety walk down in the box to stop the bulldogs run i expect keegan cassetter to have a whale of a ball game because he's a handful for anybody
008to try to cover in man-to-man coverage and if it if they stay in that three-day zone uh he's gonna have a heyday i would expect to see more cover two uh out of the out of the cardinals but early in the ball game that'll be something to check um [Music] yeah i really expect shepherds going to have better numbers like i said the competition they've had this year has been really stiff he's got a live arm he is a gritty quarterback and he's also a two-year starter in conference indiana he knows what it takes so so he'll be he'll be a threat to also pull down the ball and run if things go awry the running back van der waals he is much improved from last year he's also a returning starter in conference indiana
009for southport he's a tough hard-nosed kid if he gets ahead of steam it could be an issue i appreciate that and a big shout out to my wife for letting me postpone our date till after the game isn't that the truth yeah it's an absolute perfect night tonight southport will start with uh a whiteout and a corner deep so the speed in the back [Music] kicks away received at the 17-yard line brought down at the 27-yard line that's where the cardinals will start yeah pierce burge on the return there it looks like he got about 12 yards on the turn good coverage by the bulldogs uh here comes the bulldog defense first play of the game here looks like southport starts with a twins formation to the boundary and quarterback and the gun shepard's gonna
010give to the back and he's gonna get swallowed up for no game maybe a loss of one [Music] yeah bulldogs were well scouted on that that twins closed formation is a heavy run 95 percent run this year for southport so far out of that twins closed look so we'll see if that stays true that carry by josiah odinger a junior five nine from southport the flip formation we got motion across the middle and shepard back to pass looking across the field over his head bring up third down just a touch inaccurate a little high for the big tight end there it's a good looking target number 82. uh at six foot five 215 pounds he's athletic uh but good coverage there by the dogs i'll call it third and third and ten here two personnel
011change for southport they're gonna come out in a spread formation two by two one back shepard again in the gun back to pass sprinting out to his right completion made that's gonna be a first down on the southport sideline it's like number one with the catch wilson eight uh excuse me six foot 180 senior for southport and wilson's definitely the deep threat there he's got the jets so bulldog corner respecting that speed and and breaking late on that ball first and 10 balls in the 39 yard line 11 minutes 10 seconds to go here in the first quarter looks like shepard came up for the play to the line of scrimmage with no play or quarterback oh my that is bryce calvert you're right he's a sophomore for south southport carry this time again by
012number 13. josiah odinger for no gain yeah southport getting a little tricky there keeping the quarterback in putting the backup quarterback and the backup running back in that formation change bulldogs got to be aware yeah you're right coach they've got shepherd is a has an up back here as a wing and the sophomore quarterback taking the snap and gave his to josiah again number 13 and he goes nowhere again that'll bring up third and nine yeah bulldogs just absolutely swarm there led by carson dibble the six foot 190 senior was having none of that stuff that run very short gain if any savion miles in there big d tackle for the dogs helping plug things up and make a stop third and eight ball on the 41 yard line that same third down formation two
013by two spread one back shepard back to pass looking down the field he's got a receiver that's a reception and he is gonna score that's jihad wilson that senior uh receiver number one for southport that's a 59-yard touchdown there for the cardinals yeah absolutely little trickeration there that's the sophomore calvert airing it out deep great ball great control in the wideout just out running the bulldog secondary really nice play there by the the cardinals looks like they're one short on their p-a-t team late sub here plenty of time on the play clock that's number 47 for southport who i will make up a name for him because he's not on the roster that's no good no good wide to the left and we have 9 31 left on the clock here in the first quarter
014and it's six nothing cardinals yeah that is the backup kicker the regular kicker uh it looks like he may be in street clothes so we'll have to watch a little trickeration on any kicks from uh southport going forward uh tough start here but i'm pretty sure the bulldogs coach plus will get defense over there on the sideline get them rallied up and get them coached up and and get that corrected i mentioned it's youth football night but it's also youth cheerleading night there's a whole gang of them out here coach with the north cheerleaders and they are joining in and trying to figure it out by looking at the big kids next to them so what a what a neat opportunity for moms and dads to get a picture of those little ones now and
015then do a side by side when there are juniors and seniors out there themselves here in several years donovan craig back to kick it for the cardinals scroggs and cast header back deep they're going to kick this ball short and that's going to be picked up on the 40-yard line by tyler blyth the experienced bulldog and that's where north will start with great field position on the 40. yeah the the kicking team here for southport all year long has been consistent they will give up yardage with that pooch kick and uh bulldogs should have good starting field position the entire night well here we go with the first offensive possession of the short season here at max anders field split backs for the dogs and it's going to send blythe in motion he's gonna throw
016it in the flat to blythe he's got room to go maybe a face mask there doesn't look like there's a flag and that's a eight yard gain it'll be about second and two [Music] a great start from hammond's there on target delivered on time blyth able to get up field wide receivers held their blocks appropriately uh maybe a graze on the face mask probably not enough to get a grab there but uh nonetheless second short for the bulldogs i'm reminded that coach clark's also a certified ihs double a football official same play the opposite way this time to the field and tyler's got two or three yards and should be good enough for a first down yeah hey run it till they stop it right if it worked once run it again same formation opposite
017direction first down bulldogs first and ten here for the dogs ballrest on southport's 49 yard line 8 38 to go in the first quarter dogs trail zero to six trips with a tight end to the field here this time gonna send redmond in motion hammonds will keep it for about a game of five yep send redmond in motion make uh southport look out wide and then tuck in between the big guys and run for four or five that'll work all night long god i think that's going to be difficult to defend with hammond's ability to move his feet and carry the ball in the middle of field and spread redmond out wide and would have been a quad receiver option out there to the field side trips to the field here this time and dylan
018is the x receiver in motion now back out hammond's by himself in the flat in the hitch to blythe and he's going to have a first down down to about the 37. [Music] yeah a lot of cardinals there to stack him up and drive him back but he was already way past the first down marker another good connection between hammons and blyth hammonds is making really sharp quick decisions tonight and that bodes well for the bulldogs looks like north as you mentioned is in the we'll take what they give us mode right now and if they're gonna play off goodness eight or nine yards on those hitches like they are lined up here on the boundary side then my guess is they're going to go to that early and often give us to redmi this
019time he's got room to go across the 30 down to the 25 yard line that'll be another first down for the dogs absolutely that's the stable of this bulldog program little inside zone got them spread out got them looking around [Music] really good drive so far for the bulldogs first down [Music] trips to the field side trips to the left hammond's back to pass looking down the field still looking throws it over here to redmond who's got nobody on him and he steps out of bounds at about the 11 yard line another first down for the bulldogs [Music] yeah i've been watching the cardinals with that sting linebacker position he's now backed off as the bulldogs enter the red zone they went straight quarters there nobody initially opened redmond linked out caught the pass first
020down bulldogs first and goal they're going to call from the 10-yard line ham is going to carry it down to the five gonna be second to go second and second goal from the five hammonds making good decisions reading that defensive end saw that he crashed on the tailback pulled it tucked in beside his big guys and go get four and a half yards hammond's by himself here in the gun sends redmond into motion into the backfield and we got trips to the field with a tight end on the boundary side i'm going to give it to redmond he's swallowed up that time by number 20 mitchell unversa he's a six foot 200 pound senior for southport yeah that's a pretty savvy play from the senior linebacker there he knew that formation knew that motion and
021uh good on him for being in his playbook bulldog is going to have to respond here third and goal from the 10. rodman in the backfield hammond's in the gun gonna send blythe into jet motion across the field now we have trips to the field side hammond's looking back to pass quarter route to the end zone that's to blyth touchdown dogs what a throw what a catch the concentration to keep the feet in bounds absolutely beautiful catch by blyth the offensive line given just enough time and that's what tyler hammonds does he just drops the dime in the bucket coach bless and his staff has to have a heck a lot of confidence in those guys out there to run that route and throw that ball on third and ten kick by cooper horn is
022up and good and that gives the dogs a seven to six lead with 5 26 to go here in the first quarter well coach i don't know about this we may be on our way to a shootout both offenses move the ball down the field with very little problem the difference being the bulldogs moved at will and southport struck all at once i know in the past coach bless has always wanted to have that ball control offense we may see some fireworks tonight partner i wouldn't be opposed to seeing a lot of points being put up and you're right it didn't look like southport had a whole lot of answers minus one or two plays for the dogs offense there they were gaining five six eight yards per play and uh like you said southport
023had a couple first downs and scored a deep one without much trouble as well guest is back to kick for the dogs he's a 511 185 junior for columbus north wilson back deep and purge back deep for southport it's number 23 pierce burge he's a junior for southport brings it out to about the 27 yard line that's where the southport cardinals will start yeah right at about a seven yard return uh you got to make that first guy miss on kickoff return and luckily the bulldogs were able to corral him and bring him down uh let's see if the bulldog secondary has some answers here for uh the sophomore quarterback still in the game it's hard for me to you got better eyes than i do coach it's hard for me to differentiate between 15
024and 16 out there on the field so i think that is a 16. it might be a hold on the outside there i don't know maybe not those guys in the white hats can see it better than i can but that's a carry on the outside for about a pick up of five be second and call it four to go good start to the drive there balls south park re-establish the run possibly a hold but can't catch them all you're right that is that sophomore quarterback is in there with wilson in the backfield behind him shepard split out now as a wing josiah ottinger number 13. he's a six foot sophomore for cardinals a pickup of call it one and we'll say it's third and four balls on the 34 yard line yeah defensive line
025was really disruptive there blew the lead block back into the running back he tries to get out on the edge side and matthew hager the 511 180 pound senior uh come up from a safety spot and and really sound tackle their third and short here savion miles and dawson adams played a lot of snaps for the dogs last year so there's a lot of experience on the interior defensive line i rolled out to the boundary that side and uh looked to look to complete the pass on third and four but it was knocked down by the dogs and we've got a personnel change looks like southport's to punt really good coverage in the secondary a tremendous bait by jackson scruggs there uh jackson is uh really electric with the ball in his hands as well
026he had a tremendous punt return last week at east we'll see if southport even attempts to punt to him jackson is a he's a heck of a player heck of a good kid getting plenty of looks at the next level look forward to see what he can do they are going to punt to jackson's side but that ball's going to get a southport bounce across the third he thought it was going to go out of bounds at first but ball's down at the 28 yard line and that's where north will start 3 40 to go here in the first quarter dogs lead seven to six and the bulldogs are gonna come back on the field with their what their same starters they've got a very experienced offensive line too as well coach with lykins and
027uh thornton and you know these kids have played a lot of snaps last year so i got to enter this season with a lot of confidence and not a whole lot of time having to re-teach things blyth in motion this time the givers to redmond broken one tackle and across the middle and picked up about four yards back to the bread and butter for the bulldogs little reed zone executed perfectly by the quarterback and the tailback once again four and a half five yards on first down makes the offensive coordinators job pretty easy looks like the same formation here this time deep motion this time that ball comes out to cooper horn looking for room he's got he's across the 40 still moving still on his feet i'm going to call him down at the
02844 yard line that's going to be plenty for another dogs first down yeah cooper horn just a tremendous athlete those of you who follow bulldogs basketball he's a two-year starter already started as a freshman and a sophomore for the bulldogs basketball team decided this year come out and play a little football for the bulldogs and he's doing a great job and trips with a tight end here ball on the right hash for the dogs redmond out into motion and ham's going to keep it across the middle for a pickup of about three we'll call it second and seven yeah and that may be the shortest offensive game so far for the bulldogs but three yards is positive do that four times you got yourself first down i'd like to talk about big number 96 in
029there for southport his his number's not on the roster either i might need to get an updated roster and check my max preps or something but he's he's a he's a big boy and a good looking kid up there playing nose right now and a zero technique for for southport second and seven hammond's by himself in the gun now looks for blyth and a hitch on the oh he's got room to go across the 30 all the way down to the 28r line that's gonna be a 35-yard game for the dogs in a first down cardinals can't figure out if they want to play cover three or if they want to bring a safety deep bulldogs are hurting them on the run bulldogs are hurting them on the pass they're going to have to make
030a decision otherwise bulldogs just going to continue to pick him apart and take what they are given in two by two formation blyth now in motion to trips to the field redmond's the single back hammond's back to pass gives it to redmond nobody there he's got he's got neil likens out there as a lead blocker all the way down to the 11 yard line for another big gain perfect play call the dump off to the tailback there was a four-man blitz there by southport they brought all three linebackers and a safety and the bulldogs just checked right out of it looked like a great gain first down for the bulldogs i never played running back in high school coach but if i got to get that ball on a swing pass and run behind a
031kid that's not going to pay for college because of football that would make me pretty excited redmond with the give across the five taken down to about the call it the three and there's still room for a first down in there but it's gonna be second and three second one from the three coaches in the box next to us saying get back on the line and run the play that's exactly what north's gonna do they're gonna give a right back to redmond oh i'm sorry helen hamm's going to pull it this time and get out of the outside good perimeter block there on the from the z receiver that's damon edwards the junior that's another touchdown here for the dogs yeah luke hammond's playing a little game of hide and seek with the ball in
032his feet he uh tucked it out tucked it in ran around the right side nobody's gonna catch him touchdown bulldogs another impressive drive for the bulldog offense wow so far so good for the blue the team in blue for sure kicked by horns up and good it's 14-6 43 seconds remain here in the first quarter and as we mentioned before it doesn't look like southport has a tremendous amount of answers for the offense that uh that the dogs had brought to the turf here today i would have called that play better but i had i think luke hammond's family in front of me with his big head or fat head or whatever it is the cardboard cutout blocking my view so apologies for that but a kid running like that he can put his face
033anywhere in this stadium absolutely and we set it pregame you know luke hammonds drives this team he has made all of the right decisions tonight he has been pinpoint accurate uh he's the he's the the go behind this machine and then you've got that big offensive line including mr neil likens you're absolutely right about that running behind him makes life uh pretty easy really interested to see what southport is going to decide to do defensively right now they're getting out schemed by the bulldogs they have the talent they have the speed and the skill but the scheme is really hurting them they have not decided what they want to do we'll look forward to see if there's a change in that or not columbus east on the road tonight at seymour looks like they have
034a 10 to six lead after the first quarter just south of us here we'll keep an eye on keep an eye on that game as well guess with the ball teed up on the 40-yard line and he's gonna kick this one deep and it's going to be received at about the 12. brought to the middle of the field and it's a good tackle in the middle of the field by himself there by tyler blyth mr do it all balls going to be down to 26. that's where south park's going to start yeah dangerous return there by the southport return man he was one block away from spring springing that for more and tyler blythe with an absolute perfect tackle wrap and roll around the knees and get him down to the ground southport as mentioned
035starting the ball in the 27 yard line 30 second 37 seconds they're gonna motion to trips that's the sophomore quarterback with a good pass just a little behind the receiver there that's dropped the second down that was uh intended for caden davis he's a 510-155 senior for the cardinals yeah and the scouting report says that davis can be a game breaker but he has some mental lapses it looked like that one hit him in the hands nice delivery by the quarterback those you just got to look in coach got to bring those in and make that catch for your team yeah it's hard to expect a sophomore quarterback to be able to put the money ball right in the money every single time and you got to be able to make those plays well scissors
036play there with the backs and the wings that's carried by josiah odinger again he's that sophomore 166 foot uh little to no gain there we'll call it third and nine and that clock's running down we'll see if southport tries to run another one or if they just take the quarter here looks like they're going to take the quarter so we'll uh we'll start here after a brief pause it'll be 39 from the 28-yard line of southport [Music] one quarter under our belts here at max anders field dogs lead 14 to six southport coming off the sideline third and nine from their own 28. coach what adjustments do you expect by the bulldogs here if any well i expect the bulldog defense to continue to try to put pressure on the young sophomore quarterback i expect
037the secondary will align a little a little better and get a little more communication and try to fix that hiccup that southport scored on and then man my goodness the bulldog offense i don't think they need to change anything just keep rolling two by two formation here for the cardinal single back back to pass he has pressure steps up gets the ball delivered that's going to be picked off picked off at the 48 yard line oh bryce bryce avenue 511 185 senior for the dogs with a tremendous play across the middle of diving catch for an interception not only was it a tremendous interception but it was tremendous pressure once again by the bulldog line that forced that uh inaccurate throw by the sophomore quarterback tried to force it into a window it wasn't there
038uh and abner the safety undercut that route diving two-handed interception here comes the bulldog offense first and ten here for the dogs it is set to reload it seems two back set for the dogs this time we'll see if they motion one out of there as they have typically balls rushing right in the middle of the field hammond's back to pass got plenty of time because both those running backs help block he's going to carry the ball and run get sandwiched by a couple of defenders balls out looks like they whistled him dead at the 37-yard line should be a first down yeah the southport has adjusted they've gone to two deep safeties they're uh gonna give up that run to the bulldogs bulldogs tried a big one-hitter there after the turnover good run by
039hammonds i'd like to see a little bit better on that ball security but i believe you're right i believe he was down when that ball was knocked out so no harm no foul first down bulldogs due to our stream delay i've got the advantage about a 20 second delay so i can watch a little bit of replay hammond's going downtown deep to blow i know it's over his head that ball is intended for cooper horn he was double covered with the safety help but uh couldn't get that one connected and bring up the second 10. yeah once again just sometimes those inner incompletions are not all bad when you can soften up that defense with a nice big long throw and you had a wide out that was open uh that'll that'll soften them south
040board up even more and hopefully bulldogs can take advantage as mentioned second 10 ball in the 36 yard line both teams still have all their timeouts here there's 11 31 in the third quarter that gives to redmond on a zone read and looks like he picked up two down to the 35. yeah good tackle by dante hahn the linebacker uh junior six foot 170 pounds looks like he's kind of hobbling a little bit hopefully he's okay he's going to stay in there third and long for the bulldogs we see how they respond and how they treat this third down maybe the goal is to go forward on fourth and they just need half right here we'll see they are in that position of the field that it could be four down territory blyth in motion
041creating trips to the field here hammonds drops back looks left now right ball is delivered to blyth he's got a reception across the 25 and good enough for another first down yeah absolutely why mess around with four downs when you can get it on third hammons to blythe again on the money great catch turn get that yard after the reception and uh first down rolling again [Music] sub for the cardinals number 76 bo lopez he's a sophomore 6-3 330 coach so it probably means he's 310 right is that usually you add a little bit on the roster right and give us to blyth in the backfield and you're right he's mr do it all he's getting across the middle of field for another first down ball down the 11 yard line he's having a tremendous
042game just given the ball looks like a timeout called by southport uh they need to get that defense some rest the coaches want to talk about it what a what a first half tyler blythe is having lighting it up on the field here at max andres catching everything thrown his way taking that hand off for looked like 10 or 11 yards really having a great first half so far did you inflate your numbers on your roster when you played ball i can neither confirm nor deny uh it's been so long ago since i did that uh that i was the opportunity to play i i can't remember the roster my senior year may have said i was six foot but but i can't recall well that means yes the answer is yes the answer is
043always yeah so anybody who's six foot one eighty ends up six two one ninety five you always add 15 those big boys eight they can add 25 30 and get away with it out of the timeout here 10 15 remaining here in the second quarter first and ten for the dogs hammond's in the gun he's gonna give it to redmond seems like a good idea he's on the edge all the way around the corner down across to about the four close to a first down yeah shout out to the big tight end there ben kleinhenz 85 out leading redmond to the end zone got good feet got good size latched onto his block and led the way just an extension of that o line there the tight end position for the bulldogs caught second one
044from the three give it to redmond why not he's got good guys pushing down not not quite in it's gonna bring up it is a first down for your first and goal from the one bryce harriman subs in for excuse me cody thurnal subs in for the dogs 511 275 junior for columbus north hammond's right back to the line of scrimmage [Music] hammond's in the gun redmond the only back 918 remains here in the second quarter to give it to redmond he's going to get wrapped up and stop all the way back at the five yard line yeah i was gonna say it's nice for the bulldogs to be able to bring in a 275 pound sub on the line who can drive his feet unfortunately they forgot to block the defenders that time d
045tackle and the dn got in and stopped redmond well short even pushed him back a yard so we're gonna be second and three here for the bulldogs but the way we've been chewing up the yardage that should be able to punch in the end zone two receivers set and tight formation of cass eddard and blyth to the top of the field dogs are trying to get a timeout didn't get honored and he's gonna get sacked and wrapped up all the way back at the 15-yard line both coach bless is running down the field to the sideline judge trying to get a timeout but uh he did not see him and and hammonds is on his back and it's gonna be third and twelve from the 12. unfortunately timeouts are granted not guaranteed so the official
046has to hear the coach make that call and he was already well into his pre-game uh pre-play pre-snap routine so a loss for the bulldogs looks like a loss of about nine um we'll see if the bulldogs can punch it in a couple of big stops there for southport it's got to have some momentum on that sideline of white jerseys two by two formation true spread here and we might have had a false start there but it looks like it's okay hammond's gonna scramble up the middle oh fumble balls out that's recovered clearly by southport on the four yard line and that's how that drive is going to end yeah zach riddle the uh six foot two 200 pound senior absolutely swatted that ball out of hammond's hands the ball went to the turf and
047turnover kills the drive for the bulldogs we'll see if the defense can respond and you're right maybe that gives southport the energy they need just as we were questioning if south portland had an answer for the dogs they they stuck it to him on the goal line there and backed him up and created a turnover and that's gonna be an offsides penalty against the dogs that's uh mr adams got a little anxious when that that wing went in short motion across the field here so southport will get a free free five yards a few stats to share from the first quarter thanks to coach pat mckee who is providing stats via live stream from wherever in the world coach mckee might be thanks pat for your for your messages here uh from the first quarter
048redmond four carries for 21 yards hammond four carries for 15 yards and hammonds was seven for seven passing for 93 yards in that first quarter first and five now ball on the nine yard line for southport give us to the back and he's going to be stopped short maybe a loss of one there that's josiah odinger the sophomore who's had plenty of touches so far here in the first half right good job penetration once again by the d line and bryce abner comes in and makes a a great tackle um you know this momentum is fickle and the bulldogs are going to have to focus in here and take advantage of what they're given the second and five now two receivers set now motion over the wing creates trips they're going to pitch to josiah
049into the boundaries out there by himself and gets swallowed up i'm going to pick up about two yards looks like the ball might be out official say no and that'll bring up third and about three yeah there was a lot of bulldogs around the ball a lot of swiping at the ball i did see it come out but i had no angle onto whether or not the knee was down the officials saw it he called it third and two for southport 6 28 and counting down on the scoreboard to the north end of the field here southport comes up with a no play or to give the coaches in the box a good look if how north's going to line up they shift your side to the other side to give is it to the
050sophomore he's swallowed up that is savion miles who just looked like he was going to take josiah's head off on that tackle big stop there actually lost his helmet that's going to bring up fourth down and don't see a personnel change yet here coach it doesn't look like there's a punt team on the field yet well this is dangerous they may be trying to draw them offsides but if they get stopped here that's going to be a tough one to answer to on saturday morning looks like they are going with a hard count trying to draw them off personnel still remains on the field still trying to get a hard call looks like there's gonna be a timeout and there is a couple of efforts there to try to get a free first down and
051dogs get a good job of not biting on it and we got a timeout here by southport really good job once again the strength of the defense is the d line and they held their water and xavion with a huge tackle on third and two and to keep it third and two defenses has struggled early and really come out and adjusted and made some some good stops and hopefully we can uh field the punt here and get really good field position once again for the bulldog offense people watching the stream at home can't see it because where the camera is but there are a lot of people in these uh home stands over here for north um it's a welcome welcome site not full but but nearly full i would say welcome sight coming out
052of last year with limited attendance and because everything that was going on with restrictions across the state and the county so it's the first time that a lot of these people have been able to come watch a high school football game here in person for a couple years you're absolutely right the bulldog faithful are out in full blue tonight and could they have picked a better night what a beautiful evening for high school football here at max andersfield southport back to back to punt here can't make out the number of the punter but he's got his heels on the goal line he's going to sprint out and end over in punt is going to touch down to 36 and roll across the 50 and still rolling down to about the 44 yard line which is
053where north will start yeah they saw the same thing i saw last week and they are not kicking the ball to jackson scruggs they are angle punting away from him and taking that rugby bounce uh and it has gone their way so far but once again anytime you can start to drive at your own 44 yard line that's good field position high percentage to finish the drive with a really good chance for points or the very least to flip the field and put the opposing offense near their own goal line first and 10 here for the dogs 512 remains in the second quarter trips with the tight end ball on the left hash that snap is to redmond he's going to give it to hammonds and he's going to fake reverse and sprint out and
054throw it to blythe who's got a first down all the way down to the 40. little razzmatazz trickeration there by bulldog nation that was interesting direct snap to the wide out cast editor handed off to hammonds the quarterback and then thrown to mama there's that man again tyler blyth and blyth might be selling pizzas at halftime here or orchestrating the marching band because he's doing everything today deep motion here by cast editor ball goes to cass that's his first touch of the game and he's got room to go he's a threat and the output field does not want to go out of bounds and it's tackled down at the 28 yard line for a first down yeah his feet were moving so fast there at the end that he forgot they need to touch the
055ground lost a step and fell down otherwise he was a moving great athlete great hands good focus and once again that's what a senior quarterback does he fumbled he made the mistake he owns up to it comes back the next drive and he's pinpoint accurate first and 10 ball on the 28 yard line deep motion by blythe creates trips this time the ball goes to casteter good reach for a catch and he's going to pick up about five yards there down to the 24. if this were the major league baseball the officials would be checking those gloves because that was a snag right out of the air jumping away from his body and made a beautiful catch great hands great eye coordination way to bail your quarterback out on maybe not his best throw not
056a whole lot of personnel substitution for the bulldogs not sure they need to trips to the field this time ham is going to keep it and shaking southport cardinals off of them and he's going to scamper all the way down into the end zone for a 24 yard touchdown well we've said it once we'll say it again the steam that drives the engine luke hammonds shows the ball shows the foot takes it away runs around the left end this time and out runs everyone to the end zone with great ball security that time coach you've done some defensive coordinating in your time oh that's gonna be a penalty from the cardinals you've done some defensive coordinating in your time how do you even begin to defend when north is purposely spreading you out across the
057field and sending sending their weapons up and down laterally on the field and what do you how do you even start with that well it all starts up front this massive offensive line for the bulldogs is just kind of having their way right now they've got so many weapons with hammond's the ability to throw the ability to run redmond's running tough blythe catching everything cast deader there's no definite answer on how to stop the bulldogs right now and if the first four drives for the bulldogs have taught us anything the only thing stopping them tonight is themselves cooper horn with the sky ball kick slow and easy over the over the crossbar there but if it goes through it counts so that's three for three for horn and the dogs lead 21-6 359 remains here
058in the second quarter combined marching band tonight for their first performance i believe would be their first performance here combined marching band with north and east just another great example of a two great solid high schools here in town uh that work well together and share programming very well together and i just really applaud those those directors and those administrators for thinking outside the box and combining two good marching bands into one great marching band so we'll look forward to seeing them here here at halftime here in just a bit yeah really tremendous job um both schools for that we've got uh all our youth football players headed down to the north end zone so they can be introduced and we're looking forward to a a really really good second half here but we still
059got 359 left and bulldogs are lined up to kick it away guess what the ball teed up on the 40 and kicks it deep received at about the 15-yard line there's a flag on the field and a tremendous tackle down at the 21-yard line that ball was returned by cayden davis see what the flag is here looks like the tackle was connor essec 59190 senior let's see what the what the man in the white hat tells us here what the penalty is it's like it's gonna be a hole against southport so that'll back them up a bit more yeah special teams as an official is a number one spot for flags there's a lot of bodies flying around full speed coach has been yelling at you all week to maintain your block and sometimes you
060just reach out and grab them a little too much so good job by the defenders here and bulldogs will line up on defense maintaining blocks and open space for a long time can be really difficult there as well so that give us josiah in the middle and that's sabian mills who again is having no part of it tosses him back towards his own goal line and reminds everybody who the man in the middle is wow what a display of athleticism first to beat the block second to swallow the runner and then thirdly the strength that it takes to literally throw another human being two or three yards away very impressive savion former schmidt rocket as well coach i thought i'd mention that it's important to include jet motion and they're going to toss it to
061the jet runner across the middle and he's going to run for about i'll call it seven yards and it'll be third and short here looks like that was uh number 23 pierce burge again uh ball carrier for southport yeah get the defense moving on that outward motion and then cut it back underneath a lot of bulldogs over pursued they've got to stay mentally disciplined on that third and three to go still still going with a sophomore quarterback here they give us to 13 again and he gets wrapped up and goes nowhere odinger the sophomore and it looks like punt team's going to come on the field this time for southport after a time out from the dogs goodness gracious the bulldog defensive line and linebackers show their uh aggression again they refuse to be blocked
062they are really doing a good job with their hand placement getting getting the offensive lineman's hands off of them maintaining their gap control and just being a disruptive force on that front line which leaves your linebackers and safeties free to come downhill and absolutely make tackles for loss and and no gain really really outstanding job by coach sharp and the defensive line this week knowing what southport wants to run when they want to run and then just being aggressive and putting their hands on people and having their way i understand the eighth grade northside spartans had a big win this week against jackson creek anybody stained out from that game worth mentioning well absolutely our quarterback asher ratliff had a really nice touchdown run and two touchdown passes to his favorite target sam perry uh
063really really good game out of those two and then defensively cole finney played a tremendous game for the bulldogs or for the spartans so it was good to get the w and hopefully we look forward to next week dogs are coming after this punt it's blocked this block is picked up by who else tyler blyth picks it up for a touchdown that puts another six on the board for columbus north are you kidding me what a first half tyler blyth picks up the blocked punt on one bounce and walks it into the end zone uh whatever he ate for lunch today he's going to eat every friday for the rest of the year that guy is on it coach i'll tell you dawson adams down here in front of his coach he's the man that
064blocked it dawson seems to be everywhere as well he's 59 255 senior for the dogs he not very often you see a big big guy like that get in there and blow up a punt but he blocked it and it fell in the bread basket of mr everything tyler blythe here's a bad snap and cooper horn's got it and get a throw to try to convert but that's going to be no good on the conversion but dawson adams blew that thing up blocked the punt bounced twice hopped up in tyler's lap and and uh tyler took it the other three steps to to score 27 six dogs 217 to go here in the second quarter yeah on that p-80 it looked like the snap was good just a little hot for castetter to handle and
065and it looked like maybe cooper had a second or a step where he could have got a better throw off to jackson scruggs who heard the fire call and got out there but as you well know coach being a special teams coordinator special team giveth and sometimes it taketh away lose one point there for the bull bulldogs and 27 to six is is where we stand yeah it looked like they they had an option there that that was not a fake that was a bad snap that was over the holder's head and my guess is that's probably the first time cooper had to run the fire call there with a bunch of bad guys chasing them so typically that's the that's the holder who makes that call and rolls out because usually it's quarterback but
066certainly an option for the kicker to do it as well and cooper is a good enough athlete to take care of that ball it almost did there for a quick conversion but didn't work out for him yeah as you recall last week versus the olympians cooper had that 40-yard pass down the sideline he can throw it if needed a big completion there for the bulldogs in that game so he has the capability just didn't get it executed there and that's when they'll watch film and chalk up and learn and get better and and try to address that the upcoming week guests tease the ball up here again on the 40-yard line ball in the middle of the field as the sun sets behind us and darkness starts to fall ball is received at the nine
067of southport and he's got nowhere to go brought down at the 20. southport will start the with the ball right there in the middle of the field on the 20 212 remains here in the uh first half dog lead dogs lead 27-6 well as as you're well aware my friend the field position battle has been absolutely dominated by the bulldogs uh you know southport has had most of their possessions start within their 30-yard line and the bulldogs have had most of their possessions start at their own 40-yard line and that's a big difference first intent here for the cardinals give us to the back and he is swallowed up [Music] quickly by conor essec and that carry was by their leading rusher from the previous two games christian van volkenberg we talked about before it's
068the first time i think we've seen him on the field and i know it's certainly the first time we've seen him carry the ball here so i don't know if there's an injury related there coach or or what's going on but we're right back into it here 140 to go two by two set looks like southport's gonna take a look at what north has lined up in and then call play accordingly still with the sophomore quarterback and pulls this one the ball oh almost intercepted good defense there by the dog secondary yeah really good break on the ball there the the quarterback had a small window he threw a good pass bulldogs just able to get there and break it up from the tall tight end there looks like he's a little bit shaken up
069on the play but i think he'll be okay uh yeah on the running back i i can't detect if there's a slight limp there on the right ankle but you're right i think he got maybe the start and the first carry and then came out and this is his third or fourth play so we'll try to keep an eye on that and see what we can find that looks like he's still in there now so it's third and twelve ball on the 19-yard line southport's back to pass and throw on the sideline there's nobody there except for jackson scruggs there is a flag on the play on the 29-yard line my guess is that'll be against the dog secondary for perhaps a hold on that route may explain why there was no receiver in the
070area yeah that was uh senior cole hopkins number 10 5 10 170 pound uh cornerback he was uh all over the white out may have gotten a little handsy there when the ball was in the air it didn't appear to be catchable but i'm not sure that matters at this point he did impede the wide receiver we'll see what the call is will be pass interference against the bulldogs that'll be 15 yards and a first down 117 left to go in the second coach one of the guys sitting here in front of me said it was a horrible call so i don't think i don't think the head official hurt him i'm sure he would have changed his mind had he heard that feedback up here but but he must not have hurt him because
071the call stands so that'll bring up uh you hear your fun things up here at the windows open sometimes looks like we're gonna have to make a change on the clock 17 on the clock here gotta do things by the book keep it clean right trips to the field side here ball on the right hash for southport first and ten ball on the 34 yard line 27 to 6. coach clark tells me that's highly likely a pass play now they just saying that they hand off they hand off to the leading running back and he's brought down for a loss of one you know that's what you get for uh following the statistics they're gonna try to they self scout they know what they do it's the end of the quarter here or close to
072the end of the quarter maybe they're trying to to sneak one over on the bulldogs uh we'll uh we'll see how the last minute shakes out clock runs nobody choosing to stop it here we got second and eleven balling 35 clock winding down to 40 seconds now back to pass out here into the flat that's picked up by number 23 pierce birds run out of bounds at the 44 and that'll be enough for a first down 33.3 on the game clock yeah the interesting thing on that route was carson dibble ran the route he knew what was coming he actually outran the wide receiver and the ball was thrown behind and that's how the whiteout was able to catch it same formation looks like the dogs are gonna blitz or we're gonna blitz that one
073but no play for southport and see if dogs stay with the blitz looks like they're gonna change our coverage a little bit have a corner blitz on and that ball is going deep down the sideline and nearly picked off falls incomplete would be second 10. yeah close enough to give it a heave hoe and see what comes down it looks like the white out there became the defensive back as the the defensive back there the corner for the bulldogs had that one well covered and even had a chance at the ball in his hand uh but uh good job by the de the whiteout turning into the defender there and knocking that ball away otherwise that might have been another interception for the bulldogs 11.4 on the game clock here in the first half both
074teams still with two timeouts balls on the 45 yard line 2x2 formation single back southport back to pass again the ball is up in the air and he is very open but caught the ball out of bounds that's an unfortunate uh circumstance there for southport they had an opportunity yeah two things on that number one the bulldog secondary caught unaware in the wrong formation and in n unaligned to that there was a six five tight end number two who was wide open on our side and then that busted coverage on top the second thing is is the sophomore quarterback trying to air it out a little bit he may have put a little bit too much air underneath it had a wobble and wasn't able to connect because his wide out was wide open you
075never know what you're going to get with those sophomore quarterbacks you know the first lot live game action uh they're nervous and probably doesn't have the arm strength that the senior has but for whatever reason you know coach has decided to go with that sophomore and and put some trust in him and and uh that's the decision that was made so it looks like they're pretty much sticking with that that timeout brought to you by tim blesses level of disappointment in the secondary [Music] called timeout to give some redirection perhaps and some coaching here and fix a couple things so we don't make that mistake again here uh with 4.9 on the clock going into halftime definitely don't want to give up a cheap one here to knock this back into a two score game
076two by two formation now we're going to motion over to trips for southport back to pass again he's gonna step up he's gonna be brought down that's savion in there again oh i'm sorry that's dawson adams with the sack there and that's gonna end the first half 27 to six your bulldogs lead as they head into halftime yeah just would not be denied there dawson just driving those feet he is an absolute monster in the weight room and it shows on the football field getting off on the snap count uh him and xavion have absolutely had their way as the defensive lineman like to say they have been eating most of the first half a really good sack there to end that threat by southport that was don't forget aided by the pass interference call
077earlier in the drive so good finish to the half for the bulldogs uh 27-6 lead for the bulldogs now and we're gonna let you uh listen to the sights and sounds of the combined columbus north columbus east marching bands 10-32 he's leave me alone ladies and gentlemen will you please help us [Applause] [Music] um [Music] oh [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] right here [Music] wow [Music] foreign let's go [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] wow [Applause] [Music] wow oh running with it [Applause] [Music] oh thank you [Music] hello [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] oh [Applause] [Music] uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] we're back here at max anders field with about two and a half minutes to go in halftime my guess is they're going to add five minutes back on there because i don't
078see any teams out here yet but coach i don't know anything about marching bands uh but that was really good yeah i probably know know even less than you do and that was a tremendous performance put on by the combined marching bands from columbus north and columbus east let me tell you coach i don't know a lot about marching band but i know in columbus those young men and women dedicate an enormous amount of time in this summer to work on those routines to not only be able to play the music but to move and to be in formation and everything that comes along with it i'm i'm going to call it right now i'm predicting real big things down at the state tournament for the marching band combined from columbus north and columbus east
079this year yeah mr munoz and and uh mr rogers combining those groups together what what a payoff that is just a tremendous group and the upside is really exciting to see how that uh how that progresses some halftime stats here to share thanks again to coach pat mckee for uh com piling these stats for us remotely 27 to 6 is the halftime score here so far so we'll start with uh some team stats for north high school 15 first downs 18 team rushes for 95 yards 136 passing yards hammonds is 11 for 12 passing for those 136 yards 231 total yards for the bulldogs one fumble one lost fumbles two penalties for 20 yards southport on the other side total first downs four 15 rushes for 10 yards total passing yards 82 and remember one
080of that was a 59 yard touchdown pass for ten with one interception total net yards 92 three punts for 22 and a half yard average and one penalty for the cardinals netting in 10 yards yeah to be quite honest with you to hear those stats i was a little surprised the bulldogs have so few but when you talk about the starting field position for the bulldogs the entire game short field means fewer yards also means more points and that's what we've seen so far southport's have it a considerably longer field to go makes it much more difficult on your offense they got the one really nice throw and catch for six points and other than that the bulldog defense has handled themselves well they've acclimated to that and they are attacking individual stats for columbus
081north rushing luke hammond's eight carries for 50 yards and two touchdowns dylan redmond eight carries 31 yards tyler blyth two carries for 14 yards passing as i already mentioned 11 for 12 for 136 yards and one touchdown for luke hammonds receiving tyler blyth six receptions 76 yards one touchdown dillon two catches for 34 yards keegan cast header two coach catches for 16 yards cooper horn one catch for 10 yards individual stats for the southport cardinals josiah odinger 11 carries for 12 yards pierce burge one carry eight yards christian van volkenberg two carries negative three yards and on the sack bryce calvert the sophomore quarterback one carry for negative seven yards bryce is three of passing 82 yards one touchdown one interception and receiving statistics for the cardinals uh number one jihad wilson two catches 70
082yards one touchdown as long as being 58 yards and the only other reception we have on the books uh was to pierce spurge one reception for 12 yards yeah you know we talked about it pregame this southport team has athletes and they are dangerous so we need the bulldogs to come out focused at the task at hand you've coached long enough to know that coach bless is in the locker room telling the bulldogs that it's zero to zero we need to come out and reestablish dominance and and continue the success that we had in the first half here early in the third quarter especially i'll be watching the southport defense to see how they choose to attack or if they choose to attack the bulldog offense like to give a belated shout out birthday to
083my wife who turned 30 10 last week we had a wonderful surprise party for good friends and family it was a good time so happy belated birthday babe i know you're out there listening somewhere we'll get uh southport on the field for the kickoff and the bulldogs should get the ball to start the third quarter the update in jackson county looks like looks like siebel returned to kickoff for a touchdown and converted on the two-point conversion so east leads that contest 17-14 at seymour high school i don't know where in the game that is looks like they just started the second half here a handful of minutes ago so looks like in the third quarter east east leads uh by a slight margin there south where it's gonna onside kick uh you're right coach they
084want to keep the ball out of those deep returners for north they're gonna start the ball with great field position on their own 44 yard line to start the third quarter yeah that's big number 85 ben klein hens jumping all over that squib kick good hands from the tight end let's not forget our olympians across town they have a 76 game winning streak in the hoosier hills conference it's a one point game in the third quarter that is something those kids are focused on trying to attain and get after so best of luck as they continue in jackson county it's good to see ben on the field and get a get an opportunity for a touch of a ball he's a six six senior with a as you all know coach deep roots and football
085community here in columbus so that ball is carried across the line of scrimmage for about a gain of six and uh tyler blyth no surprise with the ball and be second and third second and three rather yeah arguably the best player on the bulldogs offense in the first half tyler blythe why not give him the rock again and see what he can do i think that's his second rush and he's probably up to near 15 yards rushing second and three from now on the southport side of the field on the 45 yard line blyth in deep motion he's gonna get the ball on a swing pass redmond not that a blocking form blythe can't be brought down there's a flag on the play he's run out of bounds at about the 39 and we'll see
086looks like a preliminary calls a hold uh while we're trying to block down field for tyler making making some plays it is confirmed to hold against north so we'll we'll back it up here and try it again yeah i think that's gonna go against uh cooper horn there got his hands outside of the frame uh the frame is you know the shoulder pads inside and he got his hands outside of the frame and got caught with the hold and that's gonna cost the bulldogs 10 yards it is a spot foul so we will repeat the down and it will be second and nine we talked about it earlier a little bit with special teams but you get those receivers out there in space by themselves that's a long play slow developing they got a block
087out there very exposed for a long time and sometimes it's easy to make a mistake heyman's going to fake the swinging pass and keep it himself this time and he's brought down uh pretty violently there at the 45-yard line but now after he picks up about six yards and be third and three yeah we'll keep an eye on number two there came up with a slight limp coming out of that pile anytime you got a running quarterback he's got to be used to the wear and tear and hopefully he's all right none worse for the wear trips to the field here for north third and two ball in the 44 yard line dylan in motion now he cube's back the single receiver side hammond's by himself in the gun looks dillon's way throws back across
088the field and that ball falls incomplete he was trying to get it to in the hands of cooper horn and bring up fourth and short yeah cooper had the ball in his hands just for a minute the defender did a really good job of pulling his body away from the line of scrimmage and swinging him and that caused the ball to come loose i believe that's only the second incompletion for luke luke on the night and a tough one to to lose their fourth down here north looking for a hard count southport won't bite now the play call comes in from the bulldog sideline two by two formation here hammond's with the ball out to cast edder and he's going to find space on the sideline and run out of bounds for a bulldog first
089down yeah southport really stacked the box there they brought all nine defenders in the box they left the corners on an island and just a little uh quick throw to keegan and he probed the inside where he was supposed to go didn't like it and decided to be an athlete take it around the right end and and get a good chunk of yardage for the first down it was definitely a play call made up here in the box i'm sure because southport didn't change their alignment at all after the heart count reel redmond with the carry across mill the field gets across the 30 down to the 29 and a gain of about seven yards and the dogs just keep chipping away five six seven yards at a time yeah it's a heavy dose of
090what we saw in the first half some pinpoint accuracy throws on the edge to get the bulldogs started and then pound it in the middle behind those great big offensive linemen who do their job well trips to the field here for north they gave us to redmond he's going to bounce it to the boundary side he's got all kinds of space out there and there's a flag down in the backfield but i'm also seeing uh max chase's helmet that was rolling over towards the southport sideline so i'm gonna guess uh there was some extracurricular activity going on there and we'll see what the if the white hat confirms it yeah i think he's gonna get an intentional illegal hands to the face on the southport defensive tackle there got his hands up in the face
091mask of the offensive lineman that's why the helmet came off and in indiana high school football you do not have to leave the field if the penalty causes your helmet to come off so he gets to stay in the game and bulldogs will take the penalty in addition to the yardage bring them all the way down it looks like the five yard line first and goal for the bulldogs as i mentioned i've got the benefit of a little bit of a delay here on my computer so i was able to see the replay and it was not anything unsportsmanlike looks like he just got his hand caught up in there and popped his helmet off so first and goal redmond's got the carry still on his feet still on his feet and they're gonna whistle
092him dead it's a big pile forming there about the two yard line and that's where the that's where the fun will stop and let's call it the one let me second and second goal from the two yard line headed in yeah i feel like if the officials would have given that about three more seconds those offensive linemen would have got behind that pile and just pushed them all in they were they were all rallying over there for sure hammond's under center this time he just gets behind the big horses and bowls his way in the end zone for another bulldog touchdown 8 31 to go here in the third quarter and the dogs lead 33-6 yeah you can't really draw it up much better for coach bless and the offense to get the get the
093kick and come out and drive it in we've got a bulldog down right now i'm trying to see what number that may or may not be i'm hoping it's not number two well it is luke hammonds comes up a little bit worse for the wear he's going to jog off the field but he will have to leave the game due to the official stopping the play for him to get up i'll be able to keep an eye on luke here on the on the sideline and see if he just got tied up or if he's gonna be seen by the by the trainer looks like he's gonna be okay cooper horn's kick is up and good that gives the bulldogs a 34-6 lead here in the third quarter coach when's the uh when's the north
094side central showdown coming up here in a couple weeks i understand central middle school playing some really good football on that side of town as well yeah you know the the central chargers are on a little bit of a roll here playing some really good football as of late i believe that contest is two weeks from this upcoming wednesday um i think each team will have another game before before the big cross rival showdown and uh generally the way that that works is one of the games either the eighth grader the seventh grade will be played at east and the uh the opposite game will be played here at north every year just to kind of get um both uh both fan bases a shot to get out and support their team and uh you
095know we always look forward to competing against uh central the the rival there um it helps breed in and and helps to build the champions that that end up playing in blue and orange in high school so looking forward to playing in that game and the kids getting that experience and then continuing those rivalries or becoming friends with their rivals uh the year after so bulldogs will kick off here after scoring 8 31 left to go in the third quarter good kick received down by the eight yard line north continues to do a good job on coverage and pin southport back and make them face a long field of green ahead of them here southport will start with the ball in the 26 yard line on the right hash 8 26 remains here in the
096third quarter savion back over the top of that ball ready for some more as is his counterpart dawson adams they're two uh two fun kids to watch for sure looks like same personnel here for for the cardinals sticking with the sophomore quarterback calvert that give is to number 13 josiah odinger had 11 carries in the first half and he loses one here in the first possession yeah once again those men in the middle tearing it up for the bulldog d line uh i will mention that the the new running back there for the cardinals he's been a little loose with that ball the last two carries we'll see if the bulldogs can take advantage of that second and 12 on the 24 yard line clock at 7 50 and running southport looks like they're going
097to take a look at again from the box on how north it's going to line up here no adjustments by either side it's a great ball it's a great volleyball ball by that sophomore quarterback on that quick slant from the x receiver but it was just just dropped yeah you gotta help your sophomore quarterback out especially when he puts the ball on your hands unversal there the the senior six foot 200 pounds he catches that that's a good chunk of yardage and puts them in better spot but wasn't able to hang on to it it's third and long for the bulldogs and coach i'm going to go ahead and say the bulldog defensive line may uh get after the quarterback here it's sprinting out to his left here balls in the air looks like that's
098going to be a good reception at the 34 34-yard line or bring up third and about three to go yeah unversal dropped the the previous one on second down did not drop that one came back for the ball got both hands underneath it corralled the catch and fourth and short we'll see what southport uh decides to do here it looks like an offensive formation coming out maybe try to draw them offsides and punt or maybe the coach has decided it's time to go for it a lot of big bodies up front there north is going to load the box norton southport is going to run right at them and not only get nowhere they're going to lose yardage no whistle yet looks like the ball might have come out not going to make a difference
099it was fourth down north to get the ball here regardless but another good stop by the bulldogs meow what a defensive stand it would not have mattered but i do believe the ball came out and was recovered by the bulldogs another what a way to start the third quarter offense gets the the kick goes down and scores defense goes four and out giving your offense the ball on the positive 29-yard line look for the bulldogs to continue to do what they do drive the ball down and get some points if you're a southport fan you're not not too encouraged by giving the bulldogs a short field when they've pretty much had their way here so far they'll start with the ball in our southport 29-yard line cooper horn in short motion [Music] and that's going
100to be a delay game penalty against north coaches in the box next to us aren't too encouraged by that oversight yeah it's one of those five-yard penalties that you never want to give up but if you're gonna do it you know being up 27 is not a bad time let me be first in 15 now from the 34. hammond's in the game back to pass he got a lot of pressure he's going to come down that's a sack at the 42-yard line by number 24 for the cardinals that's that's christian van volkenberg that we've been looking for for the running back he's uh i don't know if he's a two-way player but he's making an impact here yeah southport brought the blitz on that they uh went man-to-man coverage and and decided they're gonna come
101after it i'm noticing more and more two-way players here to start this third quarter for for southport we'll see if he's just trying to get his guys out there and go or or if that's due to injury or something else motion to trips here they're going to throw it in the boundary to redman he's got all kinds of space and blockers still on his feet he's going to score is he going to score he's going to ski up they call him in that's a 42 yard swing pass scamper and another touchdown for the dogs on the back of dylan redmond well coach tyler bless all they blitzed on the the first play there in first and 15 and and they came at him again called the perfect little uh swing pass almost like a screen
102got the big boys out in front and then dylan redmond does the rest with the dive into the end zone to get the points for the bulldogs cooper horn on the on the kick that's gonna be blocked a lot a lot of big paws up there and penetration by southport and blocked that extra point and that makes the score 40 to six here with 5 49 to go we're still in the third quarter yeah that point after attempt completely blocked we've uh uh i'm used to having a faster snap and hold and kick time i know coach bless has talked about that as special teams they're they're doing their best this year with a brand new kicker and so they're they're trying to get that sped up and southport just took advantage not only does
103that cost the bulldogs a point but that point makes a big difference indiana high school rules state that 35 point lead it would be a running clock we're only at 34 therefore the clock will not run and if you've got a ride back to indianapolis on a bus that is going to make your night a little bit longer i don't have a bus ride coach i've got a about a two minute drive home but i wouldn't mind to see that clock run but we'll have to wait for another one here we'll see how that all shakes down you talked earlier about the coach tyler bless uh nephew of tim bless son of mark bless head coach at avon high school a good play call on that swing pass to avoid the the blitz from their
104previous play that's um it's a benefit of having good quality coaches in the box upstairs because they can they can see how we can see it and it's uh when i was doing this that's what i did and i really enjoyed being able to xno from from a high vantage point to a little bit of chess match and see something like that really pay off southport pops this road turn out a little bit better this time across the 30-yard line call for 31 and that's where they'll start this drive with 5 43 to go in the third quarter down 40 to 6. yeah tyler blyth on the tackle that he's been doing it all tonight uh i like you as i coached for 12 years for the bulldogs i spent 11 of those years in
105the box and being able to see see the view and call that out to your offensive coordinator and help him to see that that's a a big key for the bulldogs first down first oh that's a batted ball up in the air knocks down falls to the turf but that was um was that deflected by big ben up front there i think it might have been playing defensive end for the for the bulldogs but dangerous deflection for southport but it follows the turf in the second and ten from the 30. yeah when you're six six and you put your hands up and you end up being seven foot tall knock that ball down and uh almost get a chance for a turnover lots and lots of pressure on the sophomore quarterback there that's a big
106sack by number 24 bryant trinkle he's a six one 200 pound senior for the dogs and that's going to be third and more yards than southport cares to see at this point third and 17 on the 23. yeah it's not often that you play 6a football at 6 foot 200 pounds and play defensive end but trinkle has tremendous foot speed and great hands he uses leverage well and and he absolutely competes every play back to pass looking down the field he's got a receiver open and that's a completion made at the 45 yard line a post route across the middle for a southport first down that's a big boost of confidence there on a nice pitch and catch for the cardinals first and ten from the 46. purge with the catch there he's been open
107a couple times and and quarterback hung in the pocket stuck it right in his hands great completion and first down for southport two by two formation here for the cardinals calvert the sophomore quarterback back to pass looks downfield again he's got an option that's picked off [Applause] that's picked off by the dog still on the sidelines still has blockers he's cutting across the field that's matthew haeger bravo all the way down to the 20-yard line number nine matthew haeger 5-11-180 senior for the dogs with a big play be first and 10 on the 20. and that's what a senior safety is supposed to do make plays as the opportunity arises he sees the coverage he knows he's got the deep man the corner releases the sophomore quarterback thinks that the corner is not in coverage
108throws that ball straight to the safety that's how cover two defense works tremendous interception and then a tremendous return getting the bulldogs all the way down to the 21-yard line a couple mistakes here and there throughout the game by the bulldogs but they are really looking like they're in mid or late season form here as they give to redmond who picks up about three or four across the middle 402 remains on the clock as it runs second eight yeah absolutely and the bulldogs schedule gets no easier from here on out next week at roncalli the week after cathedral comes to town the defending four and the defending 5a state champions in back-to-back weeks so two really good performances so far in the last two weeks for the bulldogs they need all the momentum they can
109get the confidence they can get and then see what happens as we shake it out in the in the meat of the schedule good to start with a conference victory as it seems it'll be here hammond's back to pass looking for the end zone that's keegan casteter up and over he's double covered there's a flag looks like the defender had impeded keegan's ability to catch that ball he almost caught it anyways not a cardinal who's injured here on the sideline but that'll bring up uh second and eight for the moment we'll take a look at the flag yeah that's gonna be a pretty easy pass interference the defender never looked back for the ball and did impede uh keegan's ability to catch that and you're right not only did he almost catch it once he
110almost tipped it to himself and caught it twice i'm not sure he would have been in bounds if he'd caught it off that second one but it was a whale of an effort and just when you forget about him he pops up his head and runs right by you hammonds puts the ball on him and he makes a play so 15-yard penalty from the spot first down bulldogs 19 minus 15 is four so we'll well i take that back we're going to put the ball in the 10-yard line i guess that ball only goes to the 10 it can't go within the 10 on the penalty so it'll be first and 10. first and goal from the 10 for the dogs dylan redmond has no trouble getting to the goal line he's going to be
111in touchdown touchdown dogs yeah i misspoke earlier inside the 20 it's going to be half the distance but it did not matter big offensive line creates a huge hole redmond powers his way through the hole he wasn't even touched until the linebacker level once he got to that level he lowered his shoulder and drove through his man into the end zone touchdown bulldogs you got your wish coach and a 40 points differential up there now call it 41 after cooper's p-a-t and that clock's gonna run [Music] 233 remains here in the third quarter bulldogs lead 47-6 looking ahead at the schedule coach you mentioned they've uh dogs will have their hands full here they go they travel to roncalli next week and then they host cathedral here at max anders field that's the uh that'll
112be a new opponent here for for columbus north followed by they'll travel to terre haute north hosting bloomington south on october 1st go to bloomington north the week after and then season finale hosts terre haute south back here at columbus north yeah and i have a feeling that conference indiana may come down to october 1st between bloomington south and and the bulldogs but do not sleep on the cougars of bloomington north um coach bud bless has got them fired up this year he's got a good squad and depending on what happens between the rivalry game and bloomington between north and south you know conference indiana could very easily be decided uh in one of those two weeks uh those three main uh teams they're buying for conference indiana title bloomington south bloomington north and your
113bulldogs so a tough road ahead but one that will make the bulldog players better in the end yeah you see that a lot especially with the parochial schools that they'll play very strong schedules um in some cases coming to the tournament at 500 or so even play out of state schools and really prepares them well to compete when it comes tournament time we got some extracurricular here after the whistle and the late flag that's going to fall on the 25 yard line we'll see what the see what the call is after the kickoff return whatever it is coach bless respectfully disagreed it seems personal foul and sportsmanlike against north so that'll advance the ball and southport will start with the ball and easily their best field position here tonight starting at their own 49 yard
114line first and 10 131 as the clock runs give us to the back he's across the line of scrimmage and brought down by dawson adams for a game of two [Music] yeah coach bless is not going to be happy with that penalty that sets up southport with great field position but hopefully the defense can respond and get another stop the second half has gone according to scripps so he can't be too upset second along for the cardinals it seems like everybody is comfortable with that clock running at this point southport second and seven back to pass is the sophomore quarterback and that ball is going to be caught just short of the first down marker that's caught by number number 20 the six foot 200 pound senior for south park and bring up third one
115another really accurate throw there by the sophomore quarterback he's gaining confidence as this game progresses it may be too little too late but that's gonna serve him well in the future as we wind down here in the third quarter and give us to the back here again i believe that's a that's a new running back that we haven't seen yet curry the 59180 senior for southport [Music] should be good enough for a first down with our quarter expires and we'll head into the fourth quarter with a 47-6 lead here by the bulldogs yeah curry's a starting defensive end and maybe coach just wants a little bit more pop off the running back position so he's got his senior defensive end in there and get him some carries and that'll help for depth for the rest
116of the way for southport um we'll see what coach bless does here in the fourth quarter uh it's been his uh been his mo that with a large lead like this where at some point we're gonna see the jv team come in uh he may be telling his starting defensive unit that this is their last series so if they want to preserve this lead this is their last chance to do so i would expect that we would see the sub varsity unit come on in offense here for the bulldogs and and get some valuable playing time some experience against a a large athletic team and and see how that can play in their development for the future you talked a little bit earlier about the schedule for north coming up it seemed to me like
117in the first half north um you know as you all know coach you play these games to win but you also play these games specifically and purposefully because other teams are looking at your film and you want them to see things and you don't want them to see other things so it's a big gang tackle for a loss here by the bulldogs so my assumption is part of the part of the scheme in that first half by coach bless and his staff may have been to purposefully show how many options they had and how many weapons they were able to utilize in that first half and force roncalli and then cathedral to have to game plan a little bit differently than they may have thought yeah well as the norm is throughout the state of
118indiana normally a coaching staff will trade two game films and that means roncalli is going to get southport and east and those are both pretty good looks looks like a quick pitch from the sophomore quarterback off to the right side and a short gain there for southport you know unfortunately coach the days are gone of coaches driving on saturday morning and exchanging vhs copies of of game film and then coming back to the locker room and popping in the tape and realizing you got a junk copy or no no good and now everything's on huddle and it's it's ready five minutes later but i you know i that there was some gamesmanship in that too as you as you may well know oh that ball's picked off that ball's picked off i believe that's trent
119bodart it is trent bodart and he's going to go to the house for a touchdown that's trenton beaudart baseball player for columbus north i believe this is his first year playing football in many years a senior what a great opportunity for that kid to get a pick six and put some points on the board for the bulldogs and nothing against young mr beaudart but the sophomore quarterback got a little flustered and got a little antsy just turned and absolutely did not see anybody threw the ball right to him and you saw that speed on that baseball field we've seen that for years the the sectional champ uh baseball team uh wow turned on the wheels took it to the house and the bulldog defense gets in on the scoring section it's a great uh great
120way to finish out the game here for for trent he uh i wasn't gonna name his name earlier but he's he's the one that had the blown coverage earlier that coach bless had a a couple words with and and pulled him out so what a what a great display of him having a high level of confidence and not being shaken and go out there and redeem himself for pick six and a tremendous play here for the dogs it's now 54-6 after the good p-a-t 9-28 on the clock and you're right coach my assumption is after some special teams play here we're going to see some second and third stringers get some time under the lights yeah that's always an exciting thing for those young sophomores to to come on out onto the field in front
121of the home crowd and and and show what they've got and show the future for the bulldogs is bright um you know just another example of how those multi-sport athletes can come out and really help your team you know southport the road does not get much easier for them they have the 3a defending state champs chatard next week and then they will have bloomington south so back to back weeks tough games for for southport conan up as well a lot of energy on this bulldog sideline right now kicks away pretty consistently puts that ball in the air line he's going to take the ball to sideline this time to get across the 30-yard line continued good coverage there by columbus north and uh i believe you're right i think we've got second stringers and and
122maybe jv number one d on the field for for north yeah back in my day we didn't have all this beautiful field turf they we would call that squad the clean shirt squad uh coming out to to get some really good moments all right southport starting with the ball here they're going to give a quick toss to the jet motion man looks like southport's got their starters in there still or many of them the sophomore quarterback's still in there that's a gain of uh about five or six and the second and four to go yeah i'm not sure uh coach brought any more quarterbacks on the bus when you bring the senior and the sophomore sophomore's played the whole game he's probably going to finish it out and and that's just a quarters thing i
123hsa only lets you play five quarters in a week and and he probably doesn't want his other quarterback to come out and maybe get dinged up for the jv game give us to the back good stop there by the dogs it looks like nick osterman five seven 265 sophomore i believe his brother was here with the dogs last year graduated really good player for columbus north i bring up third and three ball on the 38 yard line southport breaks the huddle trips to the field here ball in the right hash calvert looks to the sideline for the play call dogs will blitz this and that ball falls in complete to the turf and bring up fourth down and the young secondary did a tremendous job in coverage there everybody had their uh behind their man
124and kept the man in front of him was able to do really good job um once again another pass that was on target that hit a southport receiver in the hands and just couldn't quite come up with a catch and when you're on the road in conference indiana with a young quarterback you got to make those plays fourth down alex chapman on the coverage there for the dogs fourth and three for southport they're going to go for it back to pass he has pressure scampers now and he's going to be tackled but the momentum takes them across the line scrimmage and that'll be a first down for southport 6 23 on the clock as it runs yeah once again the young bulldog secondary has good coverage and uh quarterback has to scramble and just gets
125enough there to punch it past the first down marker we've got an injured bulldog who's going to go down refs are going to put a pause into the action that will also stop the clock per the ihs ability rules a running clock will only stop for injury and for in between after a score in between the kickoff so we'll be stop clock right now at 6 13 left to go in the fourth quarter columbus north bulldogs up 54-6 we originally started this game we thought we might had a shootout and we were we were halfway right coach there certainly is a lot of a lot of points on one side of that scoreboard that's alex clark hobbling off the field number six for the dogs looked like a cramp looked like he was okay and
126then and then uh came down to the turf and cramping up so first and ten here southport starters remain in the game that's a strong carry across the middle for about a gain of seven bring up second and three ball on the 49. yeah and and some coaches may take offense with the starters still in the game but with 540 left you're trying to build for next week and build confidence i have no problem with this uh the coach is being extremely expedient and his play calls they're doing running their offense their inside zone their outside zone they're throwing quick hit passes it's not like they're just chucking it down the field trying to score on every play yeah most coaches have been doing this for a while they're not going to take offense to
127southport leaving their starters and they they need to get some good reps here get some get some confidence with that sophomore quarterback and nothing nothing wrong with that at all with them continuing to play that's a good swing pass out here to the field side and he's going to pick up a first down all the way down to the 36 yard line with still on the clock the only time that anybody gets a little grouchy about those things is if the the winning team's trying to preserve a shutout which they're not here so um no no issue with those southport starters being on the field at all absolutely not in a great play by burge he's he's emerged as the go-to wideout i'm pretty sure that's his fourth catch and he's had a really nice
128game for them that's going to be someone that the the sophomore quarterback is going to continue to gain confidence in and and look to in the in the future looks like a quick timeout called there by a southport coach didn't like what he saw decided he's going to talk about it even in these late game situations and with the score the way that it is lopsided on one way he's still going to coach his team and hold them to the standard that he expects and that's the only way that that anybody can expect their team to to progress and get better is if you set the expectation and you adhere to it coach you you coached at hobert and coached in the bricky bowl and i grew up there and played in the in the
129region and played in the rookie bowl and then those teams up there what uh how do those how do those games differ in the region compared to what what you've experienced here in south central indiana and indy metro uh the region's its own its own uh its own world uh it's football obsessed as you know um football is is basically the biggest thing going in in the city of hobart on friday nights and it's tradition it's expectation kids are coached hard and and they grow up expecting to be excellent and when you have that in the community um that's what you grow up when you're five six seven eight years old good things happen for you as you develop that talent [Music] another nice pitch and catch there from southport across the middle of the
130field caught by caught by number 82 brandon riddle 6'5 215 junior for southport it's a good looking kid out there for first down yeah a lot a lot of the kids years ago and i'm sure it's somewhat true still still but that's a that's a that's a blue collar you know when the mills were around and and you know rough and tough football and run the ball and that's that's just the culture of a lot of the schools up there and the grandfathers played that way and dad's played that way and uncles played that way and a lot of pride so [Music] it's an interesting experience for for sure 321 here left in the game dogs lead 54-6 second and six as southport looks to try to punch one in here and put double digits
131up on the guest side of that scoreboard trips to the uh trips to the field they're gonna throw a swing pass out to number 23 and he is tripped up quickly by the dogs that reception again was by birch you mentioned earlier getting a lot of catches and uh certainly is so down here close to the goal line yeah and a really nice tackle by the by the bulldog safety they're coming down open field one-on-one with a a speedy wideout and going down low and and wrapping and rolling as we teach and that was a really nice tackle give us to the back here for the cardinals he's got room to go he's scampering across and he's going to score that's the uh leading rusher coming into the game who's only had a handful of
132carries today that's van volkenberg 195.9 junior punches it in for southport as the clock runs a scoreboard reads 54 to 12 dogs kick is up and is good 140 remains here in the game to 13 dogs lead and one would assume there's gonna be a kick off and then uh maybe three knees if i'm doing my math correctly and that should be it yeah maybe even less with the running clock still in effect we will probably most likely get to see the jv offense if there's any positive to giving up that late score it will be the jv offense will come out and finish the game for the bulldogs coach bless more than likely won't have the starters back in there to possibly take any kind of rolled ankle or injury and they need to
133be as healthy as possible as they continue to progress on their season and look forward to the upcoming weeks with the challenge that it may be i know coach bless will have the the bulldogs ready to fight and scrap and and give everything they can and let's not forget that the bulldogs last year lost in overtime to roncalli uh by one point so that that was a back and forth ball game for for the bulldogs last year and several of the players on the field next week played in that game and and uh so it look forward to that being a a back and forth good football game looks like they've got two regular formations up here and maybe not anticipating an onside kick but alert if there is one the dogs move up a
134little bit he's going to go ahead and kick it deep it's number nine for the dogs that is matthew higger who returns it and great great textbook containment there by southport i didn't catch the number but did a great job what you're supposed to do to contain and uh yep i think you are correct we're going to see a jv offense out there we'll see if they run a few plays or if they just take a knee 110 on the clock as it as it clicks away it's hudson elwood in there quarterback for the dogs he's in the gun they are going to run a play pull a guard it's a good carry across the middle hudson elwood's a six foot 170 sophomore for the dogs yeah bread and butter going there with the uh
135with the guard pull and running power and and this is what the bulldogs do so young bulldogs getting a chance elwood again on the keeper oh ball's on the turf but he's able to recoup and the clock keeps running with 28 seconds away looks like that'll be it coach bless is on the field telling him to stay in the huddle and clock runs down that's how we're going to end this one finals 54-13 here at max andrews field dogs are on the road next week but we'll be back here again when they host cathedrals coach said should be a good one coach clark thanks for joining and all your research and the the color today i appreciate the time thank you i appreciate it and everyone drive safe have a great night you
