001well good morning everyone and welcome to columbus east high school home of the columbus east olympians we're here at stafford field for the rescheduled varsity matchup between the visiting columbus north bulldogs and the host columbus east olympians as i mentioned this is a rescheduled match up last night we were here early anticipating what was going to be and what will be an exciting matchup but unfortunately due to lightning the game was postponed and moved to this morning saturday game will start at 10 a.m because of this reschedule columbus east freshmen will play on monday night here at columbus east starting at 6 p.m and the jv columbus east versus columbus north match-up will be moved to columbus north at 6 p.m as well still trying to figure out how we're going to live stream two
002games at once but i'm sure we'll do everything that we can to make that happen it's been an exciting week around here at bcsc bcsc fall sports rivalry week between columbus north and columbus east so far it has been a clean sweep by the bulldogs with boys and girls cross country girls soccer boys jv and because the similar situation happened the other night with the boys soccer match up the varsity match is going to be moved to tonight 7 p.m at the brand new bcsc sports complex so the columbus east olympians if they'd like to get on the board with this rivalry week this is a great opportunity um this year columbus east football coach ed vogel it's his very first year as head coach after taking over for long time olympians coach bob gaddis
003and even though there's been at least 30 seniors that graduated last year i know coach vogel has been working hard to get his olympians ready for this year on the other side veteran coach tim bless of columbus north graduated some great seniors but still has his quarterback luke heymans at the helm give you a few previews of some of the key match-ups here tonight between the olympians and the bulldogs i got to talk with some of the assistant coaches on both sides and and some of the names that they gave me to look at for sure tonight are keegan castetter at wide receiver luke hayman's quarterback jackson scruggs who's playing on both sides of the ball but specifically we want to look at him at safety on defense let's see as we go down the
004list we've also got bryant trinkle was a name that i've heard that's uh moving around on the defensive side of the ball dylan redman running back for the bulldogs max mormino who scored his very first varsity touchdown last week [Applause] cooperhorn who's a junior playing football again for the bulldogs those are the few of the names that i've heard so far and i know on the defensive side savion banks that's a name that you'll be hearing a lot throughout the night excuse me throughout the day and on the columbus east side we've got trice villarreal who will be starting at running back trice had a quite a few great games last year working in and out with mark mcdonald new quarterback starting for the olympians ethan duncan and as we go down the list looking
005at different numbers chase harrison on the defensive side has been known to make some big hits and forgive me as i look through this different list i'm going to go ahead and reach out to a lifeline here with our one of our columbus east assistants coach who are some of the columbus east olympians we can look forward to seeing today i mentioned duncan at quarterback and villarreal at running back who are some of the other names rocco duffy is somebody you want to pay attention to tonight today laird stidham sophomore jacob crews jacob goose elijah tungate i appreciate that coach i've heard uh josh ludicky as well somebody you want to pay attention to and i'm sure announcer dennis pierce will be highlighting those individuals throughout the game making the big plays on the offensive

008the cross country as well as tennis that we weren't able to live stream i know the bulldog news network did a great job of covering those events and so if you search on youtube bulldogs news network you'll be able to find their weekly news shows it's a beautiful morning here at stafford field and we can see on this side of the field looking out from the visitor's side then the press box over to the columbus east olympians it's always interesting to see what the student section is going to be dressed up in and it looks like east has some maybe some construction gear construction and pool day and north is pool day we've seen hawaiian shirts we've seen um i don't know the best way to put it they were wearing like jean shorts and
009um yeah tropical oh there's some rubber ducky rubber ducky pool accessories down there but the other night at the soccer matchup what was the hawaiian and then pink out it's always interesting to see what the students come up with i know as a former bcsc student the northeast games were always fun to get out and support the student athletes and you know with that being said i just want to acknowledge um you know it was tough i talked with some of the people that were in charge of making decisions and rescheduling from last night to this morning we had several students that are taking the sat that unfortunately are not able to come here or unfortunately not able to take the sat and and i know that families made the best choice for them covet
01019 this time has just been tough you know students haven't had all of the same opportunities to experience you know what traditional northeast matchups can look like and you know i hate that i hate that for our students certainly no one's fault and you know as i'm sure you who are watching and listening to this broadcast know it's just been tough and i know that we've been doing everything we can as students and staff to give our students every opportunity to have those experiences both in the classroom as well as on days like today with the northeast match-up and you know one of the things that i'm sure you've realized not just through covid but in life is that nothing is promised and the only thing that we are in control of is our response

014off kickoff received by scruggs cuts it to the left cuts back to the right oh he's still free and he's running and finally taken down by the olympians great run for scruggs tackled by a host of olympians for the bulldogs luke hammonds will come out and lead the visiting columbus north bulldogs 21 dylan redmond in the backfield motion left haemons gets it hands it off and redman runs it up the gut [Applause] harrison with a tackle yep as we just heard um about five yards there on the first run of the game hammond's in the shotgun wide receivers on both sides pass to the right and the olympians were ready for that quick toss to the right side looks like a loss of one that'll bring up third and six haman's in the shotgun three
015to the left side heymans takes it up and to the right he's running and he's got a first down [Applause] quarterback keeper for hammonds chase harrison you're definitely going to hear that name a lot for the olympians making another tackle [Applause] good first run first down run by hammonds four receiver set for the bulldogs cast editor motions to the left hammonds fakes it and takes it off again but this time met with some resistance from the olympians from what i've heard from a few of the coaches on both sides is we're going to see a a healthy dose of running today mixed in with some potentially some run pass options or some quick tosses to the outside as we've seen already motion coming across to the left hammonds hands it off to redmond good run
016to the left runs into the referee though but keeps going and he's got a first down [Applause] i wonder what would have happened if redmond didn't run into the referee i think he had some breathing room there but he ended up using the referee as sort of a [Applause] ping pong to the left shout out to everyone watching this live stream we've got over different devices watching right now hammond's back oh and mrs cass that are coming across the middle just a little bit behind him looked like there was an opportunity but it's early cass center had a big season last year for the bulldogs and he's definitely not afraid to mix it up in the middle as we just saw not afraid of contact but he can also go deep haman's second and ten

018a turnover on downs for the bulldogs unfortunate high snap there that took the momentum really made it hard for hammonds to do anything with it there and the olympians come out ethan duncan this is his first columbus north columbus east game [Applause] villarreal in the background oh they go deep on the very first play oh did he come down with it oh my goodness [Applause] i think that was number 86 logan christopher with a deep ball wow and the olympians come out with an aggressive play deep ball down the left side and they are in bulldog territory close to the red zone duncan takes a snap hands it off to villarreal but he's met by a pack of dogs and a short gain if anything trice villarreal is great running back for the olympians was
019used quite a bit last year with another successful running back mark mcdonald but with mcdonald graduating villarreal will definitely get the majority of the runs this year oh i thought that was going to be a some type of false start or can't shift two at the same time and that'll be a false start for the olympians and unfortunate because they just had a great deep play you know a short short game then and now a penalty second and 14. and you know we might see some inexperience at times and and that's natural with 32 seniors graduating last year [Music] i know duncan rolls to the left and throws it away [Applause] that brings up third down and 14 on the for the olympians i know it's been a big week for the vogel family columbus
020east new coach head coach he's been a long time assistant a few birthdays in the household and i talked with mrs vogel in this is an exciting first northeast rivalry game for coach vogel and i know he's looking forward to the challenge good run up the middle by villarreal but it will not be enough for a first down so that's fourth down for the o's we'll see if they i'm not sure if they'll do the same thing well it looks like they are they are gonna go for it and we're seeing some both teams go for it be kind of being in no man's land and duncan keeps it rolls to the left but will not be able to get a first down and so both teams showed some promise early but were not able
021to convert with either a touchdown or a field goal on the first drive so that'll bring up first down for the bulldogs we'll see if hammonds and the dogs can get it going on their second drive [Music] in the shotgun hands it off to redmond and east defense continues the pressure at the line second and 12 2 yard loss and it seemed like the oh snuffed that one out from the beginning i know we'd all like to see points go up on the scoreboard but so far we're seeing a defensive matchup on both sides both teams doing a great job of making pressure up front and limiting both sides hammond's back throws it to the left side hits cass that are on the left and that was a great timing play from hammond's to keegan
022cassetter as we spoke earlier cassette is not afraid of contact up the middle but that time he showed great route running to the left side and good timing from both hammons and cassetter third down for the bulldogs third and short on the 34 yard line we'll see what the dogs choose to do motion cast center to the right hammond's in the shotgun with redmond to his left quick pass out to the left side 13. he gets a first down and that's cooper horn junior wide receiver who hasn't played football in a few years but has already made an impact for the bulldogs and chase harrison a name that we'll continue to hear throughout the game comes up with the tackle first down for the bulldogs ball is on the 39 yard line motion right oh
023another high snap oh no i'm not sure who came up with it but it was a fumble another high snap but recovered by keegan cass that are a heads-up play by the wide receiver and i know coach bless cannot be happy about those details i know i've talked to coach bless a number of times and heard him speak in the columbus rotary club program about the importance of fundamentals and an unfortunate high snap there by the dogs let's see if they can recover second and 26. tyler blyth motioned to the right better snap that time short pass oh to redmond but not able to be caught [Music] very natural to see the nerves early for a northeast match-up hopefully both teams can settle in though and you know give their i know they're giving their
024best effort but that they can give their best result third and 26 blyth motions to the right and hands it off to redmond stopped early and that'll bring up another fourth down for the dogs [Music] and cooper horn back to take the punt pretty good punt end over end but unable to be caught by number five chase zaffy bulldogs were surrounding him and he did the wise thing and let it go olympians will take over on the 34-yard line two minutes left in the first quarter here i apologize we can't have a clock it's it's very difficult to manage in between the game clock and a live streaming clock we're not able to sync those up duncan motions to the left oh and he's sacked in the backfield by the dogs but i'll try to

032can make the olympians pay here still 0-0 eight minutes in the second quarter cass setter to the left hammons though keeps it and is tackled after the quarterback keeper chase harrison once again with the tackle second down and eight a little under eight minutes in the second quarter both teams have all three time-outs left hammond's in the shotgun redmond behind him hammond's back sees cast center wide open and he's running and he's got the touchdown keegan casteter with a great route and he ended up with a great block by one of his teammates to score first for the bulldogs [Applause] that was some poise in the pocket by luke hammons and it pays off with a touchdown to keegan cass center just to the make sure you get the kicker and that'll make it 7-0
033for the bulldogs here in the second quarter seven and a half minutes left great pass from luke hayman's to keegan casteter and early on you know the olympians have had moments where really thought that they were going to convert unfortunate fumble a penalty here a mistake there [Applause] columbus north equally has had you know a few moments of just jitters early game jitters but hammonds poisoned the pocket delivers a strike to keegan cassetter and the bulldogs are up 7-0 here in the second quarter just a little behind the scenes of those for those of you who are watching on the youtube channel if you wouldn't mind go ahead and click that like button and the reason i say that is you know not because you're liking or not liking the broadcast but when you hit

035at the end of this game somebody's going to be one and one and another team is going to be owen 2. and early on columbus north has the advantage ethan duncan though rolls to the left oh and he's hit in the backfield number 32 bryce abner with the sack both times really nice sacks by the bulldogs in the backfield when duncan has rolled left and as a right-handed quarterback that's hard to bring that ball back and get rid of it but he's got to get rid of that ball there that'll bring up third and 11. 24 yard line rolls to the right oh and nearly picked off by the bulldogs that'll bring up fourth down for columbus eath columbus east 4th and 11. 036second quarter oh and there's a timeout looks like they were trying to get number 43 john feif on the field and olympians will take a timeout here at stafford field saturday morning beautiful day it's been one of the hottest august that i can remember yes it is beautiful but it's also hot as one of our fellow camera crew up here and one of the things that's it's been really cool is to get to work with you know talented volunteers that are you know they're they're giving their time their energy their effort their talent and um up here in the in the booth we've got columbus east and columbus north um as well as one of our north students helping out with video and just want to say a special thanks to them [Applause] number 58
037neil likens getting the student section for columbus north into it fourth and 11. east back to punt i just recommend just kick it out of bounds don't let scruggs get it well [Applause] oh end over end and east recovers the punt i'm sure that wasn't part of the play now part of me wants east to kick it to scruggs because i want to see him run it back he's very talented but the other part is me just being a strategic person you don't you don't want to give one of their best players an opportunity to run it back [Applause] but i'm sure that wasn't the intention there to have a shorter punt but the bulldogs i'm sure are thankful as they start in east territory hammonds hands it off the redmond runs it up to
038the right side keeps motoring and a great run by dylan redmond six yards up the gut for redmond hammond's in the shotgun motion comes from the left side that's cast deader but he goes back oh hammond's quarterback keeper met by definitely chase harrison was one of them graduate parker harrison his brother was always in ball hawking making tackles and chase is picking up the heat this year oh and another costly mistake for the olympians offsides which will give the bulldogs a first down hammond's in the shotgun redmond to his right hammons keeps it and keeps running through near a first down [Music] coach is up here in the press box urging the bulldogs to keep the pressure on i'm not sure if they can hear them up here but hammonds hand off to redmond redmond
039keeps running and met by number 14 rocco duffy on the tackle but not before another columbus north first down and early on it's all bulldogs cast setter motions left hammond's in the shotgun looks to the left oh passes the cast center again and it's another cast that are touchdown [Applause] cast etter and hammonds have linked up twice now [Applause] [Music] and that'll be 13 to zero for the bulldogs they're gonna kick it yep extra point try now and it's 14 to nothing [Applause] cass setter with another touchdown [Music] [Applause] early on the bulldogs and the olympians have showed shown nerves understandably so on the northeast rivalry game but the experience of hammonds and cass eddard has come through twice and that resulted in touchdowns [Applause] two minutes 52 seconds left in the second quarter 14
040nothing bulldogs over the olympians nice job offense as i mentioned earlier north has been has swept the olympians so far in each of the match-ups and they're off to a strong start here in the football game chase zaffy and beau wagner back to receive for the olympians bulldogs always do an interesting formation to start sometimes they have done an onside kick from it but more times than not they usually go back and get in their straight line and and kick it deep we'll see what they do here and kind of a s low knuckle ball zaffy with the return [Applause] leads the olympians back to around the 30. two minutes 40 seconds left in the second quarter and i just want to give you guys a shout out one more time thank you for everyone

046been clicking all sun saturday morning another touchdown by the bulldogs keegan cass center have a day and extra point here is up and good bulldogs over the olympians [Applause] 35.3 seconds left in the second quarter and speaking as a former well as a bcsc graduate former bcsc student there's nothing better than having a great game against your arch rivals whether you're columbus north beating up on columbus east or columbus east giving it to the bulldogs and certainly keegan cassetter and luke hammonds have been outstanding here on this saturday morning these are the stories that you tell your kids someday about remember that game when luke hammonds and keegan cassette had three touchdowns in the first half yep they have done a great job in that two-man game so far here in the first half well

049which will the clock will continue to run and looks like that might be the last play of this exciting and one-sided first half yep and the olympians will go into halftime [Applause] they will receive the ball in the second half and perhaps that's why they chose to go ahead and end try to forget this first half and move on to the second some of the highlights so far have been hammons and cass that are connecting on three touchdowns great defensive play from bryant trinkle a really nice play from ethan duncan to logan christopher on the very first play the first drive for the olympians and nearly a touchdown by dunkin running but but just one second folks but unfortunately duncan definitely i'm sure he heard the bulldogs coming after him and ended up fumbling the
050ball north really just showed discipline experience and poise during the first half and you know it's understandable the olympians showed some inexperience and you know hopefully just for everyone watching in both teams i know they put so much time energy effort into practice i hope that for all of us the olympians will come out and and keep this get this game a little closer but first half so far it has been all bulldogs 21-0 we're gonna go ahead and take a break we'll be back in just a little bit thanks for tuning in we've got 20 minutes a little less than 20 minutes left to go before the second half and we're back here at stafford field we've got eight minutes 38 37 seconds until the second half shout out to pat mckee who's keeping
051the stats for this game and he sent those to me so we're going to go ahead and and talk about the first half as you can see it's 21-0 um cast editor three of those well that was three touchdowns three touchdowns six catches for 96 yards cooper horn also had a reception for five yards and let's see here north has had eight first downs 19 rushes for 59 yards 101 passing yards so far hammonds has been eight of 10 on his completions total yards for columbus north 160 one fumble but it was not lost punts averaging 35 yards and only one penalty for 10 yards columbus east on the other side has had one first down so far and that was the very first play on that great pass from duncan to christophel passing yards
05234 for columbus east ah pat mckee thank you so much he must be tuning in casstetter's third td was technically a run so appreciate that pat so hammond's has two touchdowns throwing and that uh that third touchdown by cass deader was considered a run appreciate you pat total yards for the olympians are 95. one fumble that was lost costly fumble all fumbles are costly but that was that was a disappointment for sure um three punts for the olympians and four penalties for 20 yards duncan the quarterback for east has carried the ball eight times for 49 yards and villarreal has carried the rock five times for 12 yards back to the bulldogs redmond 10 carries for 47 yards hammond's seven carries for 18. and back to cass setter that was one carry 10 yards on
053a touchdown number of sacks by trinkle brian trinkle for the bulldogs and you know as i was talking with uh one of our video guys up here you know even though the score is reflected 21-0 it really easily could be 21-14 but bulldogs have taken advantage of a few of the olympians mistakes and and so the scoreboard doesn't reflect that it's instead it's 21-0 and as i've talked to a couple other folks the you know east definitely wants to win this game and and i would agree that they're also looking for long-term improvement over the course of the season you know the the team that you see today they're they're new a lot of the folks have on the east side of you know they're playing in their first east north rivalry game and they're
054definitely going to improve over throughout the season i know that north wants to clean up some of their miscues in the first half you know especially a few of those high snaps as coach nate bean has said in this text coach bless is a perfectionist and that you know he's definitely always paying attention to the details he's not going to spend time looking at the scoring and the tackling highlights he's going to have clips ready to show his team of the mistakes and miscues because conference indiana is tough you know the olympians have had great success in the hoosier hills conference over the past you know 10 11 seasons i know that they're learning something each game you know last week rough loss for both teams east against whiteland north against gibson southern and so
055far you know the bulldogs you know they're they're looking like they're gonna they're gonna take this one unless east makes some adjustments in the second half and as both teams will start to get into conference play they want to learn from these two games to get prepared and then you know you never know east north might meet again in sectional time correction east got bumped down got bumped back down to 5a and so they will not have a chance to play against each other like some years past so with this being that one time you know east definitely wants to make some improvements in the second half and hopefully make this more of a game a couple other highlights i want to give a shout out to a few of the multi-sport athletes playing and
056the coaches that work with each other to allow athletes to contribute to multiple teams it's so important so important for uh student athletes to get the chance to play multiple sports um and in a community like columbus there's those opportunities you know cooper horn is one of those um multi-sport athletes playing he's new to football but he also plays basketball as well as senior trent bodart new to football and he also plays baseball i actually was talking to his mom and i'm gonna fact check this really quickly he has not played football since second grade and he's contributing here tonight as a senior that's pretty cool so just want to say a special thanks to pat mckee award-winning journalist as well as long time basketball coach for columbus north girls he's keeping the stats today

059just the way the the draw went or you know both teams either lost before they get a chance or one loss and the other couldn't play the other also the east north football series is tied 25-25 talk about balance entering this year's game and that's just a testament to the long time coaching of you know coaching legends coach stafford coach gaddis coach bless coach gobert coach mckay those long time coaches allow for continuity and a good quality program and 25 to 25 entering this year's game as you might might hear the announcer throughout this game i hope that you can pick that up on the microphone elementary basketball league dennis pierce long time director he has stepped down from his position and so the ebl director's position is open and taking applications but dennis continues

063to the left side quarterback keeper by hammons i could see the bulldogs just continue to work the clock and run it in definitely no tony romo predictor but it would make sense as they get in there closer to the olympians goal line they bring in redmond here in the backfield love to see redmond get the ball here spread the td love a little bit hands it off to redmond but he is met by a big tackle there see if he was able to get the first down and it is a first down for the bulldogs [Applause] first and goal for the bulldogs hammond's this time up front and tries for the quarterback keeper he motors the wheels very oh man very close see where he ends up second and goal on the one yard line

066his young men and the next play next play next man up got to keep playing hard no matter what the score says and the olympians with the return good return gets some room and they get it out to around the 30. all right duncan with two backs hey goes deep not not sure that christopher was ready for that but it was intended for him like he had double covers though though double coverage there duncan villarreal in the backfield quarterback keeper good run to the left side almost the midfield but there is a flag full start on the olympians will negate the good run second and 15 now for the olympians on their own 27 5 minutes 25 seconds in the third quarter dumping in the shotgun with villarreal to the right oh you can't do

070p.m while the jv will play at columbus north at 6 p.m olympians take over another flag on the play this time appears to be offsides on the bulldogs duncan back in at quarterback javion smith in the backfield for the olympians duncan gets it hands it off to smith good run to the left side there nice cut back by smith in a one-sided game like this it it can sometimes be easy for the officials to let things go and just let things play but these veteran referees are officiating the game in front of them not the scoreboard you know in addition to being a coach and student athlete officiating can be a great way to get involved in the game and these officials have been on top of it throughout this matchup you know letting them
071play when necessary but definitely showing some opportunities for both teams to improve on the little things and it's the little things that even though in a score like this it you know going into the end of the third quarter it shows 28-0 there were opportunities earlier for the olympians but penalties have been a killer here duncan rolls to the left flips it out of bounds 33 seconds left in the third quarter yeah we needed to stop the clock there a few times the clock has been running a little bit too long than it needed to 28.4 currently on the clock third down and eight duncan throws it nice catch up the middle for number 44 ryan buckler [Music] duncan quarterback keeper runs it up the middle and that will be the end of the third
