001so um ah so hey good evening welcome to max andrus field 15 minutes to kick off here until sectional round one of the 6a contest between columbus north and traveling center grove i'm joined here to my left by the pride of western michigan and kalamazoo's second son john havana hi john hi john how are you fantastic how are you well i mean as i introduced you that you know kalamazoo's second son you you can't get very far without somebody wanting to come up and say hi well we got the doors shut and the doors locked just for that reason if nothing else 9-0 center grove visits max anders field tonight number one in state number 17 ranked depending on where you look across the nation visiting columbus north here is six and two and solid
002season just lost uh two two contests by four points each so initial thoughts of what you expect tonight coach very subjective i would assume yeah to a pretty close game i think came down to the last drive um if columbus wants to if columbus north wants to win this football game tonight i think they got to do what they're capable of doing uh oh we're gonna sing the national anthem john you were saying yeah sorry about that coach um yeah so just a couple quick points um last week uh is important to note uh cathedral actually put put 330 or so yards up on the on the board last week in their loss so they the uh an offense that's executing can do well uh against the center grove team although they're they're they're 17
003or they're number one at state for a reason um so gonna have to play mistake free football i think they're gonna have to rush it early and make progress uh which will loosen up the passing game uh and and you could call it a question you could flip that around too you could pass it well and then run it well um but i think the thing comes down to for columbus north the thing i the reason why they have i think those two losses and the way to get through this game tonight and with a win is no mistakes no penalties no balls on the ground no fumbles uh they're as good a football team if they play mistake free and that's the key i think center grove's game is they're gonna come out they're
004gonna play a really good football game and they're gonna do what they do really well and if columbus north can do that then we're going to see a close game at minimum we'll see a really close game hopefully it comes down to the last drive center grove 9-0 of course on the year winners of the of the mick conference and in in simply dominant dominant fashion until as you said last week against cathedral 5a school theater always always a strong contender i think you said it correctly coach columbus north has they have won games this year even even despite penalties and mistakes that have been made turnovers that sort of thing so coach bless said it earlier this week in an interview and you reiterated just now north will certainly have to put together a
005very seemingly polished perfect game or close to it but as i said north is six and two just two two losses that were close uh dealing with with several mistakes throughout the year yeah i think uh i i think i think what we what we might also add to it coaches um if you can get center grove to make them to make a mistake right so you come out and you want to play a perfect football game but you come out and play hard enough and what i was going to talk about is just you know kind of a loose defense so you hope you don't make a lot of mistakes on offense or any at all but on defense if you play loose and you play tough and you cause a couple of of
006errors against a team like center grove you might actually get ahead in a way you didn't expect to so if they get a fumble or they get an interception could help them early they're going to come out hopefully looking for those things that come out playing conservative and they come out tight center grove is the kind of team is going to go down they're going to go down score on you so hopefully the defense comes out loose and fast and the offense comes out mistake free and they do what they can do center grove trojans led by eric moore he is 205 and 72 in his 22nd year at center grove certainly the school in the community has changed quite a bit since he started there 22 years ago but they have developed into a
007powerhouse in central indiana and uh coach moore in his 26th year overall of course we talked about tim bless each time we have a telecast tim now with an overall record of 141 and 90 in his 21st year here at columbus north his 23rd year overall north comes off uh they were off last week as all 6a schools were because of the number of 6a schools that are in the in the tournament across the state so their last game as you may recall was at terre haute south 42-21 and the week prior was here at max anders field on october 9th against bloomington north that was a victorious effort by the dogs to 14. so john how do you how do you feel kids 17 16 17 or 18 year olds would would do or
008manage the the week off going into a tournament contest that's a good question i think i get concerned about it to be honest i never liked a week off when i was that age i didn't ever feel like i certainly never felt like i needed a week off now i feel like i need a week off um you know these kids if they're if they're all healthy then i think playing every week is good for them if they're if they're dinged up and injured you got a couple columbus north guys that are on the sideline tonight um so potentially the week off helps you but i think it feels like you know you and i are in this press box a few weeks ago and it feels like a long time ago and so if
009you're a football player and you haven't played in a couple weeks it does feel like a long time ago and look at the things that have changed right like the weather tonight we've been out here for four or five or six football games and it's been 75 or 65 and sunny and tonight you know you were giving me a hard time about wearing my sweater vest um with beanie caps on and people covering up because it's it's cold it's in the 40s so this is the first football game they're gonna play in cold weather as well so that's i think that's a factor and you know that cold weather causes you to be a little bit tight so hopefully it won't last too long and they'll get warmed up and get after it center grove
010led by carson steele he's a four-year starting running back for the trojans carried the ball 167 times this year for 1 117 yards 21 scores david jackson jr quarterback 72 of 122 passes for 1131 yards and 11 touches and connor delt 28 passes throughout the year 554 yards as their leading receiver blake huffman anchors the rushing attack for the columbus north bulldogs just seven games he's played in this year 148 carries and 1047 yards of course not too far behind luke hammonds with 820 yards scampered with 106 carries throughout the year and of course luke is our leading passer with um eight games completed 1198 yards so far this year with a 63 completing percentage 12 touchdowns on two interceptions with the colder weather john do you expect any change in strategy at all i'm
011sure the kids have been practicing and they were out yeah both in the pouring rain yesterday uh but do you notice that would you anticipate any strategy changes definitely out there yesterday if you were outside yesterday uh you definitely got wet i don't know if they were outside or not um i you know the thing i i like you know yeah they were wet i'm sure both sides it's uh the thing you talked about just now in the stats that's a little bit of a differentiator is you know the hammond's kid can run it right in and and you know we've seen him take off and run a few times he's rushed for over i think he said 800 yards um this is the difference in the two quarterbacks actually the both good quarterbacks we're
012going to see a good good passing game from both quarterbacks tonight um i think they'll both be they'll come out they look good the center grove kid looked good in warm-ups uh hammond's always you know a favorite you know kind of a favorite of mine he looks good every week and he's you know he's a gamer right so i think if he doesn't see it pass he's going to take off and run with it which is great and it can be a differentiator uh if he if he rushes for 100 and and throws for 150 and huffman does what huffman does i think columbus north will win this football game so i think if him has become i think he becomes a pretty critical everybody thinks huffman is going to you know he's going to
013rush it down your throat which is going to happen um but if hammonds comes out and he does both i think it changes the game for columbus north um you know coupled with pl playing mistake free football like we talked about earlier center grove defensively led by cam curry who is he's only a junior coach but he uh he is their anchor multiple division one offers for that kid no commitment yet of course just being a junior one of those offers being to ohio state also on the same side of the same side of the defensive line austin booker he's a senior he has committed to minnesota big ten school john what's your what's your approach if you are if you're montgomery or sebastian or branstad or lycans for the dogs and you're going to
014be facing these these kids that you know who they are you know that they're division one big ten kids what's your mindset going into that is that a is that a a prove it opportunity or is there a intimidation factor there what's your what's your thought i think it's a good it's a really good question but i mean these you got to remember you were talking about a second they're 17 18 years old at this level the kids that are on that are lining up to start on the offensive line are not scared right if you're you're playing 6a football and you're lined up against a kid i don't care where he signed up to go to football school next year minnesota or ohio state and i'm not a huge ohio state fan i love
015all you guys out there but i'm not a fan um i'd come out to try to you know push him around right i would i would come out and play my best game and uh and i think these i mean at this level these are kind of kids they're going to come out and do that they're certainly not going to show up to get get pushed around themselves so that's what i think got gotta wonder what message of being sent to the that bulldog locker room with the number one team in the state coming into your own home field here last chance for many of these seniors to ever play football let alone here in columbus uh you gotta imagine they're they're fired up they're excited they're this is an opportunity for a lot of
016those kids to you know if this and i said before columbus north their good football team has lost two games and they were close ones throughout the year this would be a game that you win this one and this this is one people remember for a long time around here if you can pull this one off well you win this football game and it sets you on a road through the playoffs right i mean it it it it doesn't get easier but they're they're getting their tough football game tonight right they're going to get a good team if they win tonight they get a good team next this is as good as they're going to see uh in center grove that's what i think and so if you get through this game and you can
017keep your discipline about you you can win a lot of football games from here on out two minutes 40 seconds to go before we kick off that's that's a good point one would argue if you can if you win this game you could win any game in any level at the state of indiana especially 6a in the in the tournament speaking of the tournament columbus east is at franklin central tonight the winner of that game would travel likely travel to center grove next week if center grove were to win that would be a home game in johnson county the way that works is the the team will host if they've not hosted a game yet and if both teams have not hosted yet it goes to the bottom of the bracket so that would be
018center grove in this case if they were to win here tonight if east were to win against franklin central and north were to win against center grove that next week game would be columbus north at columbus east which hopefully we should be fun hopefully we have that opportunity yeah we'd like to see that football game we might have to butt our ways in to be able to call it since we're we don't normally call the east home games but maybe there's some negotiation opportunity there i'm not sure well they played your song metallica's been played live no they're not live they're not here tonight no no but they played your song are you ready for football gonna be it's a good night for football yeah it's a beautiful night for football got a minute left
019we're almost ready to kick off i was gonna say one thing we didn't talk about we and i think is important is special teams uh looking at the stats center grove's pretty good on special teams they're going to return the football if you kick it to them uh so i think special teams we always say it's a little teeny part of the game and it's really important and i think columbus north actually has a really good special teams program if they kick it well tonight it's going to help them a ton 30 seconds still kickoff here still need to do a coin flip i believe i don't think they've conducted the coin flip yet full moon rising in the east over there coach you see that i do yeah i think it's halloween blue moon
020it sure is i thought yeah but that might be a photo opportunity to yeah it's a really good one heading over to the to the moon there halloween blue moon it's kind of spooky bad bad moon rising was that spooky ccr yeah this yeah yeah you're a ccr guy i could listen to ccr i could listen ccr often yeah it's good for you yeah i'm glad you know what's good for me and look out for those types of things yeah you need a sweater vest i i don't know i don't know if i agree about that but we can talk about it dress you up a bit looks like center grove will receive the kick away from the board so what do you make of that coach you win the toss you choose to receive
021is that your statement team you're going to go out and score that's my feeling i i always chose to defer and get in the second half i just prefer to have more possessions in the second half than the first but um but yeah they're absolutely you know if you're i've never coached number one team in the state either so there's very possible that they're out there wanting to score early and prove themselves and put themselves in a position to go on the scoreboard first so so here we go ready for ready for kickoff here at max anders field carter ward teased up on the 40 yard line he's kicking from the north to the south away from the board and here we go round one section eight columbus north versus center grove square kick across
022the middle picked up at the 12-yard line he's got a lane up the middle he's brought down to 34. really i mean that that's playing shortstop right there coach i mean 22 scoop that one up on the 10. took off a great return actually 20 yards 22 yards on the return and that you know that's just subtle but in every game you know you squib kick to an average team that ball's we're starting on the 15-yard line that's the difference between good teams and average teams jackson the quarterback gives to steal across the middle for a gain of five carson steele is that as mentioned he is that workhorse for center grove four-year starter at tailback center grove is one of those teams john and i know is coaching youth football that they they run
023the same offense from peewee league all the way up and these kids know how to do it yeah we got a penalty on the play here to give us to the to the back weems but it won't go see what the call is here back him up looks like the white shirts are walking backwards so a little lean looks like no offsets offsides against the dogs defense wow okay on the first down must have been a neutral zone there a little bit of discussion between the referees i'm not sure it didn't look like they knew who the who the call was on a personnel change for center grove looks like the dogs will counter by subbing out savion banks and putting in another db first and ten balls on the 45-yard line jackson to steal
024oh he bounces outside you gotta tackle them good block on the edge hold flagged down for a hold here in the 50s that's going to be a hold on the on the edge block look like a good block from anybody it looked like you might have grabbed a calf muscle or shoelace or something held on to him a little bit too long i think yeah that's a big deal that's a 20-yard roughly 20-yard gain reversed it sure is that helps the bulldogs a little bit there um makes up for the five-yard encroachment penalty a lot of personnel subs here by the trojans showing blitz here for the dogs it's first and 17 balling 38. linebacker's back up jackson back to pass turn turn turn yeah good catch the ball is caught at the 31-yard line
025be a first down yeah that was that was actually well defended he's got it he's got a turn you see the receiver going up to catch the ball you got to get you got to get your arms up in there and turn around and he just turned around a little bit too late along with the catch there for the trojans mason long of 6'3 185 senior i think that was charlie winnick there on the defense i think long just went over the top of charlie who is not 6'3 still trying to get outside here for the trojans pushed out of bounds for a short game a little game great at it no gain good pursuit there by columbus north yeah really good really well defended stretch it out second and ten now balls on the
02631 of columbus north 10 24 remains here in the first quarter no score jackson in the gun swing pass back to pass nope he's gonna oh oh down ball down picked up by the he lost it now wait for the signal here yeah his third down and it was recovered by center he just slipped over it he just slipped over it you know the fans are going crazy this is one of those things fumbled fumbled football on a cold night versus fumble football and a sticky hot night absolutely it does not react the same to your jersey right you you go down he did a nice job trying to cover it up but you just slide right over top of it that was that mistake we were talking about that fumble would have been a
027huge play for columbus nord brings up third and 17 now jackson in the gun steel offset back to pass he's got time oh good football knocked loose in the middle nice play bring up fourth down that is a great play by mr holt really good really good number seven looked like he was a step behind him it looked like it was a step behind him that was a good it was a good ball from jackson right there um and we just looked at the replay it was definitely a slippery jersey on the fumble yeah we got a little bit of a delay in the feed here which is great for us to be able to go back and watch a play and replay fourth and 17 and then late substitution here by sign grove and
028they're going to run out of time on that play clock yes they did maybe intentional it might have been intentional yeah i'm delighted about five yards back him up i think that's okay for center grove you want five more yards right here jackson lined up there to punt i don't i've not done enough research on this team to know if he really punts or not but i know he's their division one quarterback now we know he can throw it fourth and 25 now from the 43 of columbus north jackson will punt that ball away offset to the right actually oh good bounce take a columbus north bounce will be down about the 18. yep good really good bounce i'll give the center rope team credit though i i mean that that bounce was hard to
029cover these these kids you can tell they've been through every drill known to a football player they cover the bad bounces and hustle down the field really well columbus north will take take over here that's a good stop john that's exactly what this column is what they need to do absolutely gave us to huffman up the middle short game for about two the standard mr huffman left mr up and right you got about five five yards four yards four yards good first run the second six now 857 remains on the game clock here first quarter ball in the 23. 0-0 is your score two back look for the dogs here maybe two yards redmond to carry that time little cowbell on third down that's always helpful third and four trips to the right this time
030eight twenty two on the clock and running now motion for blythe james to pass receptions made guest setter a little out a little out they cast center for about seven yards really good play nice catch nice throw really good first pass from from hammond that's a tough ball right there a lot of confidence there yeah that's a tough pass first one the first one of the game that's that's a tough throw to make 91 and 94 those two division one big ten kids i was telling around the same side of the ball non-factory so far it's a screen pass out to blyth just as i say that but it looked like it felt good 94 went all the way out 95 the booker kid going to minnesota to the sidelines pursuits and gets all the
031out there in the hash and makes that tackle i'm life bring up second six that was that was a pretty impressive play he's quick not a real you know he's a looks like a tall kid not a real thick kid you know so he's pretty quick pretty agile it'll be fun to watch him tonight huffman in motion to trips now and ham is going to try to run it that scampering head he gets gets a couple yeah three heavy two maybe two i'm gonna bring up third and call it six 37 yard line looks like center grove runs there their anchor defensive lineman that we talk about to the field side they're going to flop to the field every time two by two formation now late motion oh there we go that's five yards and
032they got number 94 jumping got booger to jump off sides he's excited that makes it third and one a short one too booker's listed at six six two four five yeah he looks like a slender athlete yeah he's he's he and he's you can tell he's quick it'd be fun to watch him trips with a tight end here third and one for the dogs huffman with the carry and he's gonna stop short tried to bounce it and got nowhere punt team will come out play the field position game 608 and counting here points away end over end that's gonna still rolling good bounce good down to the 16. still moving coach it is still moving 15 and a quarter the ball turned into a turtle for a minute just crawl down to the 16 yard
033line from the 20. well you said it field position game on the center of that last drive they had one one big gain down the sideline other than that dogs held them and see what they come back with here yeah i think if you're columbus north i i don't know that they feel good about their own drive right there but i think they feel good about the first probably feel good about the two possessions the fact that they're starting back on the 18 or the 16 now and they learned a little bit so this is good deep motion for the trojan steel with the carry across the 20 and brought down about a gain of five yeah it's our guy it's good look like uh mr king got in on that one too a little
034bit i missed coach mr king i thought he got you can call me mister thank you yeah we're gonna call him mr king the only way he would change his name is if he gets beat deep and i don't think that's going to happen second five now great stopped after again lofton looks like lofton was running in there quick lofton on the stop williams on the carry for center grove another third down here xavier big savion banks number 51 coming in the game my boy and yours savion banks i love him double tight formation here for center grove tackle and he's gonna be short of a first down yard short he got a couple he got a good spot but he's still short a lot of confidence they're running on third and four he's got
035a really good spot still short though a few few fans in front of us notice that spot as well coach fourth down doesn't look like it i think they're just gonna they're just gonna go for it you gotta watch the ball here they might be just trying to get a quick jump quick five yards hopefully everybody plays the deep discipline i got it close yeah yep there you go that's gonna be a first down extra half a yard that's uh that is a tough call right there gutsy that's uh we're the number one team in the state play yeah we're gonna we're gonna rush it on third and one on our own twenty-five twenty-five yeah on the road you'd call that wouldn't you on the road uh if i had the number one team in
036the state maybe likely in the first quarter you can still make up for it certainly yeah first and ten now for the trojans 356 remains ball rests on the 27 yard line jackson back to pass good good tackle he's got his receiver got to get on top of that one though 15 trenton v he's a 5 10 165 senior for the trojans that'll be a first down he had the game winner last week coach oh yeah yeah yeah he said he knew he was gonna get it yeah in the newspaper that's he he was all excited he said he walked up and looked at the corner and knew he had the game winner yeah good for him yeah see if that happens tonight first and ten jackson's gonna give to wayne's this time he's buried
037yeah that's great defense right there got to feel good so far if you're wearing blue that front four oh the front seven columbus north doing a good job establishing the line of scrimmage well if you notice coach columbus north is is showing showing uh blitz and then backing out of it and that last play you know maybe they're thinking okay they're showing blitz they're gonna back out we're gonna rush it straight at them and right in their weakness because when you show that bliss it potentially makes you a little bit weaker for a second when you back out of it and uh maybe they're thinking that's what they're gonna do there but jackson back to past down the field this time and that's caught yeah good catch they went back to that again that was
038caught by connor delp 51175 senior for the trojans for a first down that's not his that's not his first catch coach uh i think connor's got uh four or five hundred yards receiving this year so he's he's had the ball thrown to him before us what you're saying yeah four he's got uh he had 550 coming into the game tonight so he's yeah he's been down in the middle i believe that's the same route that they tried uh down in the end zone or near the end zone a minute ago that was deflected late well they saw what we saw you know uh holt got there on that broken up play the last play a little bit late right he got his hand in but he got there a little bit ball was a little
039bit late getting in there too yeah and so what they saw is he got there a little bit late so they come out and they throw the same pass thinking he's gonna probably be late again and we're gonna beat him again so he'll make up for it holt's good player he'll learn something there a little shovel pass there to weems is good for eight yards to bring up second two on the 22 yard line 157 remains here in the first quarter no score dogs load the box jackson back to pass in the middle he's got a receiver in the in the end zone and that's touchdown yeah that's just that's just they buy in the play fake right so if they buy the plate fake it looks run heavy run actually and uh he's wide
040open actually up the right side right hash connor delp on the reception there for the trojans for for the score first score of the game austin watson on the kick kick is up and good good mr good austin watson mr watson watson so so yeah you're just doing it if i jumble through one of them and you're doing it messing up right it's the one that's not written down so for all you advertising folks out there coach typically gets the advertising tattooed on his arm at the end of the season if it goes well so yep yep you always raise the money for the school pick your own colors yeah you get to pick the tattoo yeah so coach what do you think about sleeves tell me about sleeves did you ever wear sleeves as
041a player mr watson with the kick i can't can't miss the opportunity with the return on the back brought down at the at the 18. that's is no sleeves or no sleeves on cold leaves or no sleeves as a football player did you have a temperature threshold i mean is it was it like you looked at the you know were you even the guy did you even look at the weather did you know if it was going to be cold or not yes everybody looks at the weather if they tell you they don't they're lying to you okay do you does it do you dress differently because of it that's a whole different question well did you did you wear sleeves or didn't it's based on position well you your center right i played center
042and linebacker and no there were no sleeves matter of fact never the same you're from northern indiana you wore the same undershirt yeah every tire that's definitely true i agree remote or ice or anything right you got to always have the same undershirt i understand that in in our case it was an undershirt that you wore in july so you're not wearing a sweatshirt in july so they're there's your answer oh another flag on the outside of the perimeter there hook block we'll call that otherwise known as a hold i'm coming back again i won't go so far i suggest that we made fun of the kids that wore sleeves those you mean the skilled position players but i'll lead into asking you john did you wear sleeves under your uniform once it broke 60.
043let's be honest i mean there's no way you never get over 60 in michigan do you mr having our doesn't like being cold no way i i we have a lot to say i was the guy if i was going to be on the sidelines which you know i went to a small school so you know you got to play a lot i wasn't on the sideline very much but the parka i mean i would have been the guy like you know remember the old oh you had the big 70s parker oh i would have if we'd had him did you we didn't did you take it under class and put it on you gave us the huffman short game there it's gonna be was awesome he was like a hero like he was he
044was legit my dad loved him oh yeah right i'm sure my dad went out and made us get coke you know like buy coke because mean joe green wasn't even a steelers fan oh that's and those dbs for center grove had that one sniffed down and nearly picked it off yeah well that play worked the first the first pass for hammonds and then that one right there they're just sitting on the same exact path dogs having a struggle moving the ball now 48 seconds remains in the first quarter third and 16 ball is on their own two now we've seen him get out of it before there we go there's five i got a hard count got three three the white jersey to jump off there yeah one of them if you're center grove's coach
045do you even get mad at that you don't get mad at that dude i'm like jumping offsides right there when they're on their own too absolutely not yeah you don't yeah because you want the safety right you want it you want guys being aggressive and go get the ball yeah you get a safety and you celebrate a safety yeah now they're telling them to relax third and eleven now ball on the seven yeah oh coming back and we're trading five yards the other way so uh no sleeves no not ever no did you even talk to the guys that wore sleeves no i just i just told you that you didn't even talk to them no you were friends with them i mean you're friends with them but you make fun of them you made
046fun of them yeah but then they make fun of you because because you're called your own reason and you're shivering even though you can't you're trying to hide it and you were never even built like a lineman right i mean let's be honest no i was 185 soaking wet yeah good okay 205 on the roster nice talk about that later again third to 15 for the dogs oh hammond's back to pass looking now he's going down the field the ball is up in the air four grabs it falls to the middle of the field punt team comes on 41 seconds remains here in the got a guy down we got a bulldog on the turf there sitting sitting out not hopefully not a major injury isaac woodruff yeah 68. well coach i you know i'm

048get to work because they weren't bought yet but i'm sure but you know time i graduated they were oh they wanted some that's great yeah everybody should have one but but it was also right of passage like you couldn't be a freshman or sophomore they didn't play and have a park on well and for the little guys out there we always do a little scenario for the little guys you can't put one on if you're not in the game right that's a good point good at the 40. oh nearly brought in really ah wayne's on his feet across the 30 now down at the 27. 26. yeah so for the little guys out there if you're not in the game you're on the sidelines your goal is to get in the game the parka does
049not send a message that you want to be in the game we agree on that oh yeah 100 i mean if you've got a coat on on the sideline it means you don't want to play so are we we're not telling them to stay cold are we so coach says no sleeves no parka exactly and all your mothers are out there telling us how wrong we are good run up the side another big game for center grove north fans looking for a flag looked like they got one out here in the 22 yard line yeah duff's having a game delph is it almost comes like yeah that's a hold out here on the perimeter again that's a 40-yard penalty now that play for center grove would make their coach upset yeah that's the second one
050that's we've talked about this before when you block out there on the perimeter for that long yeah on the opposing team sideline you're gonna hold and their fans you've got to be real careful because you have all eyes on you yeah these columbus north fans are good at calling holding as well yeah they and they're awesome at it they see everything they see i mean at least 20 to 25 times a game trips to the right here for center grove ball in the left hash ball in the 33 yard line jackson back pass he's going to throw the bubble out there i'll wrap him up let's get him wrapped up yeah you know it's it's it's such an interesting play you're sitting up here you could see that swing pass developing for 10 minutes and
051it's so hard to defend because you're saying you're out there alone on an island trying to tackle a guy so a really hard play to defend looks like an easy play but it's not if you're a d if you grew up in columbus you grew up with ovation audio video the ovation technology group is much more the local leader in local i.t solutions 25 years of keeping companies connected and running efficiently networks and managed services phone systems and temperature control data security and hd thermal imaging grow smart with ovation technology group at ovationtg.com ovationtg.com a proud sponsor of columbus high school sports um back here at max anders fields start of the second quarter center grove leads 7-0 the second 14 here ball in the 31-yard line ball in the right hash jackson is going
052to keep it this time he's gonna option to dealt on the perimeter for a gain of about five they'll bring up third and nine special thanks again to our sponsors ru off home mortgage elevation technology group african-american scholarship fund of bartholomew county overhead door of south central indiana jolie rentals julie development and columbus wealth and first financial sorry looks like 39 here from the dogs 26 ball in the left hash that's something they're gonna give to steal and he's gonna be a stop short little to no gain there for the trojans fourth down what do you expect here john uh you know i if if i'm center girl i'm gonna i'm gonna run that same play down the right hash and run a coin and run a corner out or something but they're going to
053kick a field goal because mr watson has a dynamite leg and the wins with him not much wind but a little bit with him i'd still throw it kick is up and it is he kicked it along good ways no he missed it oh he missed it right missed it right well he was he was good by 15 yards really good yeah he had the he had the leg that was a 44 yard attempt and just missed it to the right yeah i mean he could have hit that one from 50. it's a good stop there by the dogs they'll take over on their own 26 yard line 10 32 to go here in the second quarter see if they can put together a better drive than what they they had a moment ago oh
054savion and dawson just came off and he's number 50 my guy rubbing his shoulder yeah dawson dawson adam rubbing his shoulder usually he just comes over he drinks out of that big jug he's gotta eat a couple he eats a couple of big macs yeah this time gets back in there it's out of bounds a little yeah six seven yards there coach this is this is i don't know i think this is the key to the game right if hammonds can get out there and run around a little bit it's it's fantastic right he he changes the game yeah i would agree he's he is another offensive weapon that north has utilized tremendously throughout the year so two by two formation here for the dogs single back which is hammonds blythe now in motion and
055just as you said he's gonna keep it had a window closed up quick short gain yeah i think he's going to be better when he's scampering around right that's a called play it's like called a little draw play i think what they got to do is get spread it out throw it around a bit and let him run in free space now i say that recognizing that the guy on the defensive end on the field side is probably twice as fast as him and he's six six so that's a good point trips to the right here for the dogs trying to get like that grows to jump and they did but got back 9 42 here left in the second quarter blythe in motion now and it'll be a late timeout here by the dogs
056be third and eight here on the third and seven caught on the 23 yard line would expect to see here john third and seven i do not want them to run that little five yard out seems dangerous at this point you know you you could motion away and and drag you know they like to drag cats that are across the uh you know kind of away from the motion bring cass that across drag him could do that um i also like cass that are down the hash we haven't seen that play yet we have not seen that yet have we it's a good option a little bit of a home run ball but it's fun to watch looks like the east franklin central game is tied at 14 near the end of the first quarter
057there good scoring game parks with a touchdown run that's after east was trailing 14-0 early yeah franklin central scored on the second play of the game so he's getting themselves back you said they're at franklin central right franklin central yep that's a big deal right there you come back from 14 down in the first quarter take the home that takes the home hometown crowd and stadium not that there's a huge crowd but stadium and crowd out of the game just a three-man front here for center grove hammond's back to pass there is pressure regardless scampering throwing the ball down the seam that's caught caught right there that's a dynamite catch that's caught by that was literally huffman just for a first down made the play of the game so far that's the best play you
058know you got you got people calling it a pick and not a pick that's a great play what a play by the senior leader for the dogs he just goes up and get it gets it in a position he's not normally used to i'm not sure how often we've seen him that's kind of attitude you gotta have to play though you play a good team you got to have that kind of attitude and go get that ball ball on the 40 yard line safety blitz now for center grove and ham is going to do that right past them that's great that's just great football that's the first down that goes to it hammond's a good athlete ham's a good athlete that's just a good play right there that's a good football player it's like he's
059just short it'll bring up second one nine minutes remain here in the second quarter and the dogs are rolling they blitz the safety there i think coach and he came screaming through well timed and shot right through and hammond just sidestepped him we're gonna measure it just get i think some of the fans just wanted to these guys to just give it the ol the old eyeball what do you think coaches look over there and kind of say it let's say we've seen we've seen the the eyeball plenty that matter of fact we've talked about this yeah i like this this is the first time we've seen the chains come out in the field this year it's maybe the same we haven't seen it three times that's for sure we've talked about it we forgot
060it at least once so we talked about how infrequently this happened yeah i like the eyeball yeah and i'm also a guy that likes to do the thumb and the wind thing do you do that like see the wind direction you're certainly not using your hair to test it out i mean yeah does the wind even hit that hairdo i mean do you feel it does it blow through if if i if my hair is moving because the wind is time to cut it yeah you got to cut it you know i don't handle that well no you coaches clean cut second and three quarters of an inch hammond's gonna keep it again first down and more still on his feet across the 45. i'm i'm pretty sure that three quarters of an inch is
061my dad's answer to a number of questions like you know plus minus a quarter of an inch three-quarters first down dogs 8 53 and running here in the second quarter they trail 7-0 ball is now on the center grove side of the field maybe the first for the first time tonight first down two backs for the dogs and gave us to huffman looking for room and gets maybe he's got it he's got to run hard gotta go um so you know this three quarters of an inch thing uh brings up a point tell me it's you know like when you need a little bit of something what do you call it you call it like a a smidge what do you what do what do you think that's a regional thing isn't it yeah what
062would your mom say i've used the smidge term i'm not sure can you use it if it needs a smidge you can't use it in football i shouldn't use it in football low snap there hammond's clutch out gets it out here to redmond wow that is a good tackle that is a really good tackle i bring up third and 12 now falls on the 46 yard line seven minutes 40 seconds here in the second quarter dogs trail by one score two by two formation flight first down motion now to trips stay with blythe stay with bligh pressure on him he's gonna run ah gotta get rid of it yeah there's it's so quick center grove is is coming so quick off the edge and through the they're blitzing their blitz in the middle they bring
063in safeties now and there's just i mean the rush has got to be less than it's definitely less than two seconds it's probably a second and a half fourth and seven here looks like the dog's gonna line up and we got a whistle timeout nope officials time out we're gonna start it back up here we go new play clock form look for a hard count there and no budge this time from center grove so play comes in from the sideline from the younger coach bless and that ball did not get snapped by the center and that's a penalty on everybody they're backing it up ahead sorry no we're gonna kick it away we talked earlier a little bit about the penalties and uh don't need to play a perfect game to win this one but
064it's got to be pretty darn close and they've had a that second drive if they've had the ball they got two big penalties and backed him up and had him in a corner and didn't hurt him after all but a couple penalties here and there that bulldogs could really do without low snap is gathered and punts away down the middle of the field fair catch called at the 20 yard line 22. that's unnecessary fans are a little worked up about a late hit a little you're gonna see the replay over there we'll make our own determination here make your quick call assessment we'll let you know if they made a mistake center grove takes over on the 21-yard line first and ten six minutes to go jackson back to pass two by two formation he's
065got pressure still looking a lot down the field to guess who he's got another one and he is still on his feet down at the 30-yard line that's connor delp i am interested and not interested at the same time to know how many catches and yards he has in this first half because he's over 100. he is the target for sure yeah yeah and he was their big receiver this season so um not surprising uh it's surprising he's got over 100 yards receiving in the first half but it almost it almost feels as though i wouldn't say columbus north is overly blitzing they're showing plenty of blitzes yeah but it it almost appears as though north and here's another good example of that north has committed to stop the run and if you beat us
066over the top then so be it but they've done a good job of holding i haven't seen any i don't think any rush is no big longer than five yards no no the the unfortunate thing i i i'm not a fan of showing blitz and backing out of it right because i just think it puts you off off your game right it backs it backs your key guys it puts them in motion in a in the wrong direction another good pass the jackson kid can throw it he's got a nice arm you know we've we've seen some good quarterbacks with you know deals you know coming in and saying they got a deal for this school or that's cool he can throw it both ways he throws it up the right and the left side
067pretty nicely and he throws a really nice ball it's not a bullet it's not too hard it's not too soft it's uh it's been he's been on the money tonight well his brother is not a terrible athlete either coach as you know saying it's in the family mr mr basketball and plays for the hoosiers now mr jackson davis yeah he was um he was a kid we talked about early on for i think first get first play of the game good really good uh caught a really good ground ball and a good return on the kick first kickoff now coming to america is just a great movie is it not have you seen it as a once or twice personal personal favorite it's one of those that you you're you're watching tv you're gonna fall
068asleep and you're fumbling through and you see it on you don't you can't pass it up yeah it's just tbs you just can't do it yeah absolutely kick is up and good and we'll take a quick break here um just back here at max anders field center grove leads 14-0 five minutes two seconds here in the second quarter and mr austin watson back to kick it away for the trojans castetter will let the ball bounce and covers it up at the i don't know if i like that place yard line tough spot for the dogs to start first and ten ten yard line for columbus north 501 they got a they got to take it down the field right here coach i they got oh two by two and seven formation and deep motion from
069blyth ham going to keep it this time yeah looking for space and finds none four no one yard half a yard no yards not much yeah i don't know if i like the uh a bunch of called plays for hammonds i i don't think you know we talked about him getting some yardage and getting outside i i think it's got to be more him reacting to things than called plays if they start getting into this mode of calling plays to him i think the defense is going to clamp down on him yeah it's interesting you mentioned earlier the his more involvement in the offense on the ground and since then it seems like he's carried 80 of the balls looking to pass here oh nice catch wow run out of bounds for a short game
070that was uh that's one of the better catches we've seen this year a two-yard gain but sometimes the talent of a catch is just fun to watch even though it wasn't for a big game it's defensive line for center grove starting to get some pressure on the dogs and and lessening the opportunities for for hammonds appear that he's going to have the time or at least so far that to get the ball that down the field do you buy two formations right here third and seven hammons to pass scrambling still scrambling that brought down no gain timeout taken from center grove yeah the uh what's happening on those plays is interesting you know hammond's dancing around a little bit and the offense you know the burst up field rush from center grove is so fast
071they get past hammonds and then the offensive guys the linemen it's hard to figure out which way to block right you you so what you end up doing is you end up being just kind of stranded standing there you don't know whether to block back towards the end zone or block you know force them downfield because you don't know where hammond is that and all the defensive guys have moved past them right so it becomes a weird block to have to make and uh you can see some of the the offensive linemen are out there they're not not doing a bad job they're just they they're they're a little bit confused on which way to go so it turns into a reactionary block for the offensive line of field block if he yeah he runs
072past you then he's trying to get back up field because hammonds is on the move and uh that's that's a very difficult position for those offensive linemen to be in yeah yeah i think you know you you know to get this number 94 out there who's who's super fast and rushing up the field you almost got to use his leverage against him right so if he wants to run towards the end zone you sometimes just got to block him back towards the end zone let him let him run past everybody carter ward on the punt toes on his goal line punts up and away good kick pretty good kick gets it out to the 50. fair catch at the 50. connor delp even there on the on the reception of the the punt it's interesting
073how to watch the center grove team substitute we've got the the north coaches booth next to us and coaches upstairs of course and of course they've scouted this so they're they have tendencies and they typically know what types of plays they will run depending on substitutions so they see those subs around the field or into the end of the game and they'll call them out and defense can adjust accordingly jackson back to pass here for the trojans looking down the field guess who yeah number five reception's good down to the 31-yard line 317 remains here in the second quarter dogs trail 14-0 they give jackson credit there i mean he's and their offensive lineman he's got all kinds of time he has thrown the ball exactly where he wants to throw it right now uh
074so he looks he looks really good nice ball good catch columbus north's got to make a stop i talked earlier about steel being their workhorse he has the ball now but i don't think he's i'm sorry jackson is on a boot and he's got room to go out of bounds on the 12 yard line just making a comment that steel probably doesn't have six or eight carries this half not sure they really need them but he is uh he's a great decoy ready he he's uh he's rushed you know all season he's been their main guy and that play right there to jackson i mean jackson has i think like less than 100 yards all year i mean maybe 80 or 90 yards total rushing offense so that that was one fifth of his season
075rushing right there yeah he's he has 87 yards on the entire season and you're right he gained 25 or so right there yeah so it's a really good play a good call good call this time steele does keep the ball a gain of about three or four three minutes exactly here in the second quarter both teams with two timeouts left in the half and bring up second and six for the trojans well this is a big stop they can get a stop here get out of here with a field goal makes a big difference single back for the trojans ball in the middle of the field jackson in the gun looking to pass now running looking to get outside and he is in for the score yep it's a broken play really good coverage great
076downfield coverage defense made a great a great push there but just too much time and jackson is the kind of player he's just you can tell he's a talented kid he's given that time much time to run around and look for a hole he's gonna he's gonna get to one so it's 20 to zero on the clock now or on the scoreboard rather two minutes 23. seconds left here in the first half kick is up and it is good he bounced it off the gymnasium coach mr watson mr can can really kick it we'll take me oh i think they're going to shimmy around for a second then they're going to kick the ball off they are they're going to dance around i don't know what that what do you think about like a pre-kick
077routine you like it well you appreciate it tell me more like where you stand in a like a weird shape and then sprint out to your spot and then kick the ball well the only time i'm good with that is if you're gonna do something with it so blythe is looking to still on his feet still on his feet across 25. that's a good return he looked lost for a minute blythe was lost in the woods there for about 10 yards but a good uh a good run the only time i like that you're asking about having a huddle and different formations of the kickoff and the only time i like that and you know i'm a special teams junkie but the only time i like this if you're going to do something out of
078it so for example you're going to huddle up like that and the printer is going to turn around and kick it surprisingly yeah and do something different or change your alignment yeah and not be able to put the same guy in the same spot every time that sort of thing um if you're doing it for any other reason it's pointless but it's not good for you no yeah two backs now for the dogs let's give us to redmond redmond on his feet across the six yards good good run 33 it's a good game two minutes and counting here in the first half one minute 45 seconds here dogs have the ball two timeouts still on the board second and four two backs they give us to you know this husband here they're committed to stopping
079them right third and two need a first down 34 two time out still looks like the dogs are taking their time here a little bit to get the willing to let the clock wind and go into halftime maybe and sort this one out you'll see center grove they they line up in a straight line basically and they're going to line up according to look for cass that are down the seam right here we're going to pull a guard and give to huffman he's got a first down down in the 39 yard line coach is down there thinking we're not going to pass we're not passing right now i want to throw the seam route 49 seconds left clock runs letting the clock go slow there's got to be a song for this pace of play
080just three down line right now for center grove 30 seconds on the clock hammond's looking to pass he is going down the sideline that's picked off that's a good pick it's picked off at the 32 yard line that's by that was a good catch number 20 mitch evans 510 185 junior db for the trojans don't fault the call trying to get a quick one there certainly i think that's why they slow play them to try to throw it up the side yeah i agree you're just not uh you're not going to catch the you're not going to catch senator grove off off guard trips to the boundary this time for jackson's trojans and they're going to throw the bubble out there to steal in space tackle nope no good tackles good pursuit there by osterman
081yeah all the way down the field so we gotta wrap up guys young guys out there wrap up close to a first down and timeout from center grove 16 and a half second and a half seconds here so john i couldn't help but to notice your stickers yeah on your water bottle there you can you oh you care to talk about those a little bit yeah those are uh the stickers on my water bottle are an indication that my water bottle sometimes goes to school with my uh my son because those are his uh math homework stickers that he he likes them because they they're scratching sniff oh scratch and sniff stickers let's talk about that for a moment shall we so what i hear you saying is that your son works harder academically when
082he's rewarded with a scratch and sniff stick i think every single human being on the planet including myself like if my boss were to put a scratch and stiff like sticker on something i think i'd feel more recognition listen i couldn't as a grown man i could not agree with you more everybody should use them i mean you get a special note from somebody it's always better with the scratches matter of fact i don't think there would be any covet if we had scratched them stickers in the workplace we should have scratched and sniffed masks we're on to something serious i mean it actually probably is scented mask they're you you're in the in the mass game they're scented masks oh i'm sure but how long do they last i don't know how long does
083any mask last i think there's rules on that it's like one wear and you gotta ditch it but the scratch and sniff sticker i mean do you do you also recall the disappointment when you get a sticker that was not scratch and sniff after maybe you've gotten three scratching sniffs in a row and you scratch it and you instantly know by touch it's not scratched and sniff yeah if it doesn't have that kind of tacky like kind of yeah you got to have that feel that scratch and sniff feel or you're disappointed it could even be like a you know like your best team like your teacher you know gets gets uh you know kind of understand that you're a cubs fan you get a cub sticker no scratch and sniff not as good scratch
084and sniff is always top shelf no matter no matter how you look at it it is absolutely a beautiful thing and say a special thanks again to our sponsors roof home mortgage ovation technology coming up here at halftime the columbus wealth sponsored half time here at max anders field jacob martin and his team at columbus wealth appreciate their generous sponsorship to be able to stream this game for you for free here today jackson maybe the last play of the half jackson ghoul in downtown that ball is caught and brought down at the five yard line that clock will expire it's mason long on the reception and the trojans will take a 21-0 lead into halftime they have to rethink it coach got some work to do on the old chalkboard 21 nothing we'll take a
085quick timeout and be back with you here soon go dig out your sticker books hi i'm jacob martin and this is columbus wealth i am a financial planner here in columbus indiana born and raised a local kid graduated from purdue university and decided that i wanted to come back here to serve my community with money and to help people understand that this stuff doesn't have to be complicated it doesn't have to be surrounded by mystery we understand that there is a importance that is placed on what a dollar does for you and so if i can help someone understand how to use a dollar to do more than one thing that's a pretty neat thing to be able to do and that's what i do every day i often hear that it's nice to just
086have a third voice in the room or maybe it's a second opinion i mean depending on who we're sitting down with and when in life you want to be centered on the client and that becomes a relationship we're able to sit down and help people on a macro or micro scale where i can get to know them understand more about who they are because just like how i had to learn all of these things at some point in time in my life i'm still learning every day i want to teach people those same concepts and so we do that by helping people analyze that full picture we're best used by planning and helping people understand how do you use insurance tools how do you use investments how do i look at this differently if i
087am a business owner or i work for the state or i work for a large corporation those are all different things that matter and different solutions come up in that picture so we want to help people best navigate that growing up in columbus i always found that one of the things we did really well here was to work together i think you see a community that supports itself that it revolves around the idea that not everybody is an expert at everything we're okay with that and that's what we're about at columbus wealth so if at all you're motivated to better understand how money works in your plan and what we might be able to do for you i'd suggest that you take a look at our website you can find us at www.columbuswealthinc find us
088on facebook at our columbus wealth inc facebook page we hope you get the chance to reach out to us and we'd be happy to talk to you with whatever those issues might be okay welcome back to max anders field 21-0 center grove leads two minutes to go here and half time run through some first half statistics three first downs for north 17 rushes on 42 carries 27 passing yards five of eight completions with one interception 69 total yards four punts average 37 yards per punt five penalties for 26 yards conversely in the other side center grove 12 first downs 16 rushes for 60 yards 261 passing yards coach 13 of 14 passing attempts 321 total yards one fumble which would they recovered one punt 24 yards five penalties netting 35 yards in total i don't
089know uh what uh mr jackson's uh best game of the season was but i'm wondering if he threw for 400 yards at any point in time during the season i don't think he did just based on the total numbers i think he threw for 11 1100 and something passing total he throws for 300 tonight be his best game i guess um yes i'm looking up stats right now and his his highest number of passing yards for a season for a game in a season was last week against cathedral that was 184 yeah in total for the entire year he's got last the first half this week he's got 60 yards or 80 yards on last week so he's having a game he is having a game indeed on the center grove side uh we keep
090talking about number five connor delp six receptions feels like 90 receptions but he has six receptions 125 yards and a touchdown and um on the the good news for the dogs number 30 steel who we talk about often seven carries 21 yards long of six yards so as we talked before the at least feels as though columbus north has committed to stop one side of the ball the other and they've decided they're going to stop the rush and they're doing a good job of that but getting beat over top in the air well this is not the team where you get to pick right i mean uh the center grove team is good they're going to pass it on you're going to throw it on you and you got to have guys up front you
091got to have the you gotta have the dudes to stick with them and uh it doesn't look like we have the dudes just yet we got some dudes but they got more dudes than we do they got dudes that's for sure they got more dudes it's interesting i'm just looking you brought it up i'm looking at jackson stats throughout the year compared to now and i mean he's each game he's averaging eight passes yeah most maybe i mean he's got six seven nine six nine five eleven seven so he doesn't yeah i if if that is the strategy of columbus north i certainly can't say i blame them just stop the run and if they throw the ball for 300 yards and yeah they beat you then yeah they so be it they made a
092choice right they they looked at steals you know 150 a game and and they said let's not have that happen to us and now they're giving up it's surprising because they're giving up a lot of passing yards it's it's not because the columbus north safeties and corners aren't great players it's because the offensive line for center grove is just blocking insanely well right when a quarterback has four five six seconds to throw the ball every single time he drops back i mean he hadn't been even been pressured yet he hasn't been he barely been knocked down he got knocked down on that one play in the first half where he got chased out of the pocket but other than that he's standing back there just observing and he's deciding who he wants to throw it
093to and where he wants to throw it and then he's throwing it perfectly so you know that's safeties and corners remember they're playing backwards right they're backing up and turning around and running around and it's hard to do that for eight seconds right especially most of the time when you have your back to the to the football and you don't know it's coming so you know yeah they could they could pick it up a notch but at the end of the day the defensive line if we if we get a little bit of a push uh it's going to be easier football for the defensive backs yeah we talked a little bit at halftime it it just as you said jackson has so much time to throw the ball he can pretty much take whatever
094he wants and then seems like he's just letting delp clear i mean it's there are two guys on the field right now jackson and delp throwing to each other out there so like they're in the backyard yeah there's no there's no secret of of where he likes to go with the ball and it appears as though as you said he just has a tremendous amount of time to make a decision sit back there and watch and wait and watch and wait and then delp clears and there's the ball delivered to him and people dressed in blue over here think how in the world is that guy open all the time if you've got eight seconds as you said a lot of guys can be open and a lot of options open up for a quarterback
095they're gonna break the huddle and kick it coach here we go the start of the third quarter let's see there 21-0 yeah well they yeah they've done that each time it's did they do the dance i didn't see the dance movie that was my first each time i reserve reserve comment on it mr austin watson kicking the ball away catch it in here this time there we go tyler with the return down the 22-yard line they're not kicking it to number one they they have decided to kick it to blythe every time he's a good player but he's the younger the guys the cast setters uh they've determined that cass setter is a bigger threat so dogs have the ball here to start the second half we'll see what they can do wall rests on
096their own 22-yard line two-back formation same formation they started the game with tight end to the field side gave us to redmond and he's cut down after a loss a few stats for the bulldogs here in the first half uh not much to write home about blythe with two catches for five yards hammonds with nine yards scrambling and huffing with 25. huff into motion this time yeah they just got to get that's that's uh great defense um we've talked about the wide outs blocking in every game uh to this point in the season um i don't think they've seen a well oiled machine like this and so our wide outs are actually a little bit surprising the blocks they're having to make because those guys are just coming up the field as soon as they
097see swing pass they're they're blowing the block up to make the tackle which is exactly how you got to play corner great great play there third and 12 here for columbus north i was just getting ready to say that i agree with your receivers for north done a good job blocking in space throughout the year but uh not quite seeing a team but the speed and athleticism is this this time hammonds has all kinds of time to pass but ends up getting flushed out and brought down at the 17 and it'll be fourth down yeah i mean hammonds has got a little bit more time there than he's had um but that's just great defense i mean they drop drop a few extra guys there and nobody open great coverage carter wore back to punt
098fourth and 14 from the dogs 18 yard line kicks away good kick taking it to 45. he's brought down the ball's out ball's on the ground i think they got covered up again looks like center grove will start with the ball at the columbus north 46. defense got to come up big here coach yeah i certainly need to get a stop here to both give yourself some momentum and and keep the game in range yeah 28 points would seem a little bit out of reach two backs now for the trojans jackson's gonna keep and he's gonna shovel past a steal on the perimeter and good tackle a tackle out there by jackson scruggs yep bring it up center grove seems to i'm not sure we've seen the same play more than three times tonight they
099they seem to have plenty of options here steel with the carry down to about the 20-yard line yeah that's the first big run we've seen i think from him that's that's the first one he's had over 10 yards i think coach and uh like you said you were you're saying we haven't seen the same play three times and when you get into that mode of trying to defend that many different things all of a sudden that simple little off the off the guard run looks looks as open as it did there trips to the right into the boundary here this time for center grove first and 10 from the 21 yard line jackson back to pass he's going to run this time still on his feet across the 10 across the five and touchdown pretty
100good block there wide receivers down the field like we've always talked about wide receivers down the field he gets the last six yard because a wide receiver makes a block and he gets the ball over the pylon well john i'm not ashamed to say it all this center grove team is pretty good yeah they're good they're all they're good i haven't uh you know other than you know the the plays that if you're on the other sideline and you're coaching and that are frustrating for their team or the the two holds on the big the big plays they had two big plays in the first half that got erased on holding calls and if those don't get a race you tack on another 80 yards offense and they're they're really rolling and uh 28-0 trojans
101leave lead 8 26 to go here in the third quarter this time senator will kick it from the right hash cast deader and blyth back deep for the dogs blythe will take it and he's brought down at the 16. yep they made a decision to kick his tyler tonight and uh he's doing a pretty good pretty good job his need a little bit more blocking support uh center grove guys you know not only are they good offensive defense they're getting down the field on their kicks as well i mean these guys are playing aggressive football um in every single slot other side of the sectional bracket last check it was east 2714 over franklin central low snap hammonds collects it gives to redmond picks up a couple so coach you always ask me this question
102what are you telling you guys on the sideline right now you're down 28 nothing what's the pep talk well you got just put together a couple drives i mean you can't look at the scoreboard and and write it off or what have you i mean you got to look play by play and guy by guy and position by position and and try to scratch your way back into here a little bit at least have a decent showing second half of the game no that's a tough run right there hammond still running his feet hard-nosed run there nearly for a first down just moves the pile you see your quarterback out there doing that stuff and that energizes gets everybody pumped up sure does they need to string together a couple first downs i don't know
103how many i mean in the first half they had three first downs right that's what you said three uh-huh so they couldn't have had maybe they had two in the same drive they get two or three first downs here that would change the dynamic that's a good run another give there this time to huffman and that's gonna be a first down across to 30. good run looks like those are all center grove starters out there still bulldogs quick to the line two back still gave us to huffman still understand you know you bring up you bring up an interesting point at 28 28 nothing and you're in the middle of the season you might start putting guys in i i don't think you can play your starting guys for two quarters at this level right
104you play them two quarters this week and then they get into a game next week and yeah they got to play four quarters and i mean it's a i think you mentally got to keep them in there for three quarters yeah i would agree same formation this time they put the tight end to the to the right with two backs for bulldogs give us the huffman he's gonna be swallowed up this time there's i mean there's there's nine guys in the box there coach there are nine guys in the box six minutes remain here in the third quarter all right i gotta do it i'm i'm i'm here and i'm getting text texts over here gotta give a shout out to my my daughter his 16th birthday this last month that's right yeah 16th birthday
105shout out to josephine and her friends i think uh i think i'm supposed to call him out who am i supposed to call him ashlynn's there and ally's there and i think avery's there all good kids oh good kids east east kids right yeah east east at least one east swimmer in there but you have more than one you swim no there's not uh you got one east swimmer and uh and and three other really good kids that don't swim oh good good for them yeah they're good looks like it's hammond's on the on the turf here coach yeah we got to get him up looks like he was holding the ankle it looked like a minute yeah he tried to get up a second ago but uh went back down uh he's he's walking
106it off he's got a i think by the rules he's gotta sit down and play coach yeah fourth down here so yeah i'm gonna punt it away well happy birthday josie 6 16. yeah 16th birthday all these kids turning 16. it's kind of it's kind of crazy got one yeah i know you do two weeks turning 16 as well that's a big return for center grove all the way down the sideline all the way back to where the punt started 22 yard line it's a net negative eight yard punt after the return let's hender grove take the ball over here 5 20 left in the third quarter looks like the starters remain in first down on the 22-yard line ball's carried to the boundary side for a gain of about six yeah i don't know
107if that uh i don't know maybe center grove is uh the kind of program maybe they don't sub to too quickly because they got guys i was actually surprised they got a lot of guys on our team they're playing a handful of guys they're somebody's somebody's better players i think they're playing both ways so you got a couple i was surprised to see the center grove team had had players that were going both ways and um i think they just go with you know it's a put the athletes out there that are going to do the best at the job right it's daniel williams on the carry again for the trojans 510 185 jr i wonder coach you have any idea what's the percentage of yeah 6a schools that are how many how many kids
108do you think play both ways at this level on any given team shouldn't be very many it's not usually yeah it shouldn't be any very many i think it's even shifted a little bit to where you're you're really good athletes that you just weren't on the field as much as possible they're getting more position specific as they look into the next level and that sort of thing so you don't even see your top athletes going both ways as often yeah i mean it's it's surprising when you see two two or three and i think they have a couple more than that so unless your name's jackson and you're apparently a quarterback yeah with division one offers anna punter well you know this whole thing with the punter and the quarterback thing i mean was it
109like when i was growing up quarter you mean cowboys quarterback remember danny white you remember danny white played for the cowboys yeah yeah he was also a punter yeah which i i thought they just went together you know at what point in your life did you realize that was not the same position that no no i i just thought you could do both at what point i realized that you realize that most people don't do both i'd say by the age of 10 i think that's a touchdown third down and short no signal yet they're gonna they're gonna spot it on that they're gonna put it on the three inch line oh no that is less than a skosh that's a touchdown that's touchdown that's not a smidge that's uh that's a touchdown not sure
110it really matters but i'm not sure i've ever seen the head umpire be the first to signal signal a touchdown when the line judges did not but uh okay maybe he made a decision that was going to happen on the next play watson what's it he kicks it a long ways doesn't it sure does he almost kicked it over the tarp he's upset with himself for missing that one right earlier and now he's just yeah put him on top of the roof with the it's still a really good kick i mean let's be honest what does it mean to believe in something to truly support and get behind it to be committed and invested in making sure it succeeds and grows at first financial bank we go beyond banking providing resources for dreams that matter
111and giving back to projects that make a difference as our family grows our commitment to serve the community grows with it first financial bank because together we're better back here at max anders field 35-0 trojan's lead kicks away blythe will take it at the seven looking to get up the left hash he's got space up to about the 24 and that's where the dogs will start scores 35 to zero so that clock is going to run by rule i think that what was that two years ago put that rule in place yeah implement the running clock yeah you know as a as a football player you you never want to see that like if you're a kid on the field you don't want to see the clock run right none of these kids want to
112see that clock run they want to keep playing and play hard at the same time if you're uh if you're center grove in this game and this is where it makes sense and you're trying to go to the next level and play the next game that running clock helps you from getting guys hurt and it keeps other players from getting hurt late in the game when they stop paying attention maybe because they're down by 35 so the rule itself to protect kids is not that bad but if you're a competitor nobody wants to see the clock run yeah and it's and it's put in place for not i mean honestly not at the 6a level it's put in place for those games where it's it's not close and it's 56-0 at halftime and to your
113point it's men against boys and kids are going to get hurt and that sort of thing so that that's why they implemented the rule which is it it's all appropriate but certainly you hate to you hate to be on the blue side of that yep that running clock in the third quarter yeah it's no fun although i'll mention and tim bless may not be crazy about me mentioning this but i know tim well and i know his brother mark well the first year they implemented that um north played avon at lucas oil and avon is and was good and it was week one and that clock they had a running clock in the second half as mark's playing his brother the first year they implemented that rule so sorry to i don't know why i
114remember that coach bless i'm sorry to bring it up but um he doesn't appreciate that i know he doesn't he'll he'll no remind me later but that year avon uh was absolutely loaded with stuff my guess is there are films there's there's film study you know these guys they go they watch the game after the game they see how players played they're they're there are games that coaches can't watch right and they don't go back yeah they say i'm never watching that game yeah right two by two formation here and they give us to huffman he's got room across the 40. oh that's a good tackle good tackle there by that safety good tackle bring up third and five balls on the 41 41-yard line yeah i mean mitchell evans is a good safety let's
115just be really clear about that he's a he's a he's a good safety uh he had a pick he had the pick and then he did yeah that was a nice pick he did he can cut he plays downhill that's awesome this is nice to see him make good tackles open field tackle right there and be able to make a pick um we haven't seen a ton of defensive backs this year that could do both really well hamill's to keep this one he's got room to go still running his feet and he's starting close to it just a little bit short he's running out at an angle though look at this he's giving him the smidge he's gonna the smidge spot let's see lion judges have different angles here so we'll see they didn't give
116it to him hey though they can switch at the corner here and it's an easy move 45 to 45. they will take the quarter 35-0 going into the fourth quarter we'll take a quick break here at max andersfield looking for a new home well you might need a loan you know applying for a mortgage doesn't have to be so tedious or time consuming introducing loan butler by ruoff home mortgage loanbutler makes it easy to apply for a mortgage online by compiling each of your important loan documents into one secure space just a clickity click and before you know it you're home delightful apply online today visit loanbutler.com back here at max anders field start of the fourth quarter is fourth and a half a yard here for the dogs looks like looks like north will
117go ahead and play with 11 this play redmond late sub center grove loading the box gave us to huffman and that did not don't look like he's there this just the fish on this side's got a better spot they needed a yard coach i don't think they did not get it and they did not give him that first down and that'll be a turnover for to center grove john let me ask you a question yeah coach go ahead did you have the swan man in western michigan i can't believe you got to actually lead with the question i i mean the schwann man and anybody that's still listening out there should should look if you don't know what the schwann man is you should you should google google that uh out nice six yards um
118good pass the schwann man was a guy riding around like he he's driving around in a frozen truck selling steaks and frozen pizzas in ice cream right he's not an ice cream man but he's like he's like what do you call it now when you get like a blue ribbon or something like that delivered to your door yeah right yeah already already he that was a spam man right yeah that's not a not an mre like military grade but i guess that's no that's an mri isn't it so so the schwann man he he rolled around yeah in my neighborhood it wasn't a ton you know it was like you saw him like it felt like it was once a month it wasn't like everybody was in on it my mom would do it it
119was like a special treat she'd do it like once in a great while you know pizzas we were different those you guys yeah we we survived on this one he came every thursday morning that makes your mother an innovator right and he still goes to my parents house every thursday morning this one man still goes to your parents house listen shuffle pass for eight this is this is how i grew up and how it how it remains in domain indiana at least at my parents house the door was never locked of course back then doors were never locked right yeah and the swan man would come every thursday morning and mom was at work and while we were at school whatever and there'd be a blank check yeah sitting in the freezer he'd come in
120the house come in the house oh wow and he would put the food in the freezer and he would write himself a check yeah and they'd come back the next thursday good tackle loss at three and our diet consisted of ice cream cups yeah and the drumsticks yeah and pizza rolls yeah and pizza yeah and chicken yeah from the swamp man you just i mean you just triggered a thought i didn't i didn't actually remember i mean i remember this because the the schwann man is certainly an important factor in in in your life i mean i don't want to undersell it here but i remember when so gordon food service like they're supplying food to like restaurants right right all these things right gfs gfs yeah so gfs opens up a walk-in shop in
121my hometown like so kalamazoo michigan i remember it was very cool it was five miles from my house did riots ensue for yes i mean was there another national guard it wasn't like a big place right it wasn't like the size of like a sam's club it was like the size of like a a small market right like a it was probably you know 2 000 square feet or something like that and i remember my mom went from buying all the stuff i like to eat like i was a hot dog guy like i could eat five hot dogs a day and my mom started buying hot dogs in bulk oh yeah and my dad i can remember how many came in the gfs opened and my parents got a deep freeze oh and so
122yeah yeah so now there's there's a box of hot dogs in the freezer there's 200 hot dogs in a box that's in a big in a big plastic all of them together in the in the black in the bag no individual back no there's one giant block of yeah one block of hot dogs and you had to go in that remember you see going there touchdown center grove off the left side there that's drew wheat uh he's a five eight 155 sophomore he's had plenty of carriers here in the second half scampers in for yeah good play and score good seal block on the edge i used to go in there with a butter knife and chip chip chip a hot dog off the block right two of them at a time sometimes and just
123chip them off take a butter knife to it and just kind of you just kind of get in between and then pry it off right amazing frozen solid i hope my mom is not listening to this she'd be devastated that you can always play it back for anybody that she knows is listening to this my mom would would she's sitting at home thinking that in times like these you need all your assets to work together in the field in the office and at home for over 25 years ovation technology group has been the local leader in creating i.t solutions that work and save you time and money from data security and hd thermal imaging to phone solutions and managed services integrating all your systems seamlessly ovation technology group for times like these a proud sponsor
124of columbus high school sports was coming to the house to deliver fabric for my mom's business and the ups guy was a guy that went to our church lived you know lived in the you know kind of down the road and he was kind of like your schwann guy i think yeah yeah like a friend of the family oh yeah yeah definitely that's great christmas card huh oh christmas gift yeah yeah well you let them in your house the blank check you're gonna get them again you better you better give them a decent gift too if you would have any level of trust absolutely that's funny that's really funny so any other weird things happen at your house like delivery services or any i mean any well man it's close to you guys let me
125let me ask you this yeah 6 37 left here in the game trojan leaf 42-0 let me ask you this did you did you have cable tv when and where you grew up uh i'm trying to think of when i mean certainly by the time i went to college you know we had okay a lot changed right so i remember going through like the knob tv you know we had a tv that looked like a piece of furniture right wrapped in a wood console thing and you know i was the youngest i had to get up and change the channel right so you had like you know 10 17 eight you know they're like four channels and it was funky 44 was on that bottom dial and you had to kind of fiddle with it
126to get it to work the vhs yeah yeah yeah and um and then you know i remember the progression didn't seem like it was cable tv the progression was going to i think to video like we got a we got a beta we didn't know my dad was smart enough he went he went vhs he did the research and said beta is not going to last wow so we skipped over beta we probably also couldn't be first of that is we weren't like you know you couldn't be first in on something like that we had to let a neighbor do it or whatever my dad wasn't going to be the first guy to do it right right yeah right yeah be that guy yeah you can't be first right and uh so i remember getting
127the video before cable maybe we already had cable but i don't remember cable tv coming in maybe till i was i don't know in my teens i mean certainly yeah what about you how about laserdisc you ever watched laserdisc yeah i i remember the first time i went ever went to somebody's house that had a laserdisc player gosh i thought that was the future of the world didn't it did it not impress you just by looking at this thing it did because it was like shiny and you don't cool cool looking but you had to carry it around in a suitcase yeah it was the size of a table yeah it was and you had like six of them so you'd be watching your movie i wonder how much data if somebody could please text
128us how much data was actually stored on a late on one laserdisc it wasn't a lot you held them like they were the like the holy grail like you're so afraid you're going to break it yeah all the kids out there laser just breaks one here across still on his feet across the 50 a good run for that was a good run that's great good for him a laser disc looked like a cd except it was 18 inches and a quarter inch thick yeah and if you dropped it you thought it would slice your arm off oh that's funny that's funny you know what what are you gonna do when you know this is clearly our last last broadcast what are you gonna do with your time i'm probably gonna watch a football game on
129friday night college football game or high school what have you and i'm probably going to i don't know call you on the phone and talk about it or this coming from the man that doesn't talk on the phone that's a good point he sends you a text and asks you why you called not a phone guy i actually like those people right you do you call them and they don't answer and they immediately text you and they say why'd you call well what's the what's the psychology of doing the reason i mean because calling is now in my opinion a secondary mode of communication for people that never liked it in the first place maybe right but you you do more communicating through other means than talking the phone email text me whatever don't you
130i still talk on the phone a lot i like to talk on the phone i should i should job shout out to you one day exactly how much time personal versus other people people actually challenge that and if well and if you don't have a scratch and sniff phone talking to him is more valuable now if you can get a text to smell like grape like i could just type in it and turn it on now you're speaking my language now that sounds like a you said it was like gratitude or recognition earlier i tend to agree with you viewership is dropping off sharply now as we're so much scratching and sniffs if you weren't on the oh there's oh hammond's on a scamper down to 22. running around you weren't listening in the first
131quarter on our second quarter on a scratch and synth conversation i encourage you to review that that was that was enlightening yeah go back and watch the beginning of the play by play when we really had our good stuff that's right all the good stuff was early coach we're going to need an offensive and uh overhead door of south central and then a defensive jolie rental player of the game here soon so i'll give you a few seconds to think that over and see if the dogs can punch one in here and get that goose egg off the home side of the scoreboard special thanks again to our sponsors african-american scholarship fund of bartholomew county ovation technology group rule off home mortgage first financial bank jacob martin joey rental and development lisa connor and her

133good game uh as a defensive back for center grove so good good game for center grove there was a better team the kick is up is good and that's how we're going to end it here 42-7 center grove as long as east holds on next week center grove will host columbus east next week at center grove high school congratulations to the seniors here at columbus north on a successful six and three season conference indiana champions congratulations to coach bless and his whole coaching staff thanks for joining us look forward to seeing you in the winter sports season you
