To the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. Call the March schools order. Are there any modifications to these? >> We do. We have the strike through of the first two recommendations which are uh donations um from the boys soccer team to raise money for separables at Spica Elementary School and then the recommendation to approve the retirement notice of Robert Abraham effective conclusion. >> Is there a motion to accept the modification to the agenda? >> I move to approve the recommendation or the action. Is there a second? >> I second. >> All those signify by saying I in. >> All those post sign. Any extensions? Motion carried. Next, I will ask for an

approval of the um agenda for this evening. >> Is there a second to approve the agenda? >> I'll second. All those in favor of approving the agenda for tonight's meeting signify by saying I. >> I. Those same motion. >> Now's the time to recognize our visitors and comments for the audience. Do we have any presentation? >> None. >> Uh discussion items have. Uh, next is the approval of the minutes from our February 16th, 2026 meeting. Is there a motion to approve the minutes? >> I move to approve minutes. Is there a It's been moved. Is there a second to approve? >> I'll second. >> It's been moved and seconded to approve the minutes from the February 16th, 2026 meeting. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. I post same sign. All extensions

carried. >> Next, we have our action items. >> I have the recommendation to approve the out of state fundraiser activity for the football team under the direction of Tony Bell at the Kentucky Derby on April 25th to April 28th. The opportunity may include alternate dates from April 25th through May 1st, 2026 depending on the unit and availability. Is there a motion to approve this recommendation? >> I move to approve the recommendation. Any questions? >> Yeah, I think this is a really great opportunity for our kids. Um Cody is here tonight in case the board has any questions. Um I believe last year this was an opportunity for the team to to earn some funding. Um but I think always even more importantly for kids to to get to experience a new opportunity and a different

opportunity um is always impactful. I would like to add that um after speaking with Mr. Bulls and Sarah that we're going to give this opportunity not only to football kids but any athlete that can participate. Um we're going to use funds to help cover their athletic fees for future years for next year. So that there's going to be another incentive that if a program isn't able to go a sports team, but a kid still wants to go on these dates, we're going to help pay for their athletic fees for >> high school. Correct. >> Correct. High school. But there are other sport programs that will be taking that have the opportunity to take their own programs as well. So, even though it's in here for football, if uh I know the baseball team is planning

on wanting to take a group of their kids and some coaches will be going with them. So, we raised over $14,000 just last year alone for the program. We expect to do that for more the rest of us. >> So, does that work the more students you have, more money? Is that >> correct? Yep. For every student you bring, it's $150. Um, so they give back a lot of money to it and we brought on the Tuesday alone, I think we had almost 100 kids, 100 people that were down with us last year. >> 150 per day. >> 150 per per minute. Yeah. >> So, this is funding activity for the football team. You're saying that this is open to any athletic team at the high. >> Correct. And once we get approval, if there's

any program any uh coaches that want to take their team down that have that availability, they can they can get all the money allocated for their program. So that's how it works. So if it's like I said, baseball I know plans on going last year basketball and baseball. Um both of those programs earned a little bit extra. So, I would move to amend the um motion to include not just the football team, but any Brown County High School athlete who wants to go and teens who want to go, but the whole team doesn't have to go. >> Correct. I'll second. >> Are you will you be like if the baseball team goes like are doesn't matter what team goes are they still under the direction of Tony Bell? >> They're going to be under my

direction when we organize it through the derby but like if if a coach goes with them at the derby they'll be with that said coach and in that coach will be designed to kind of keep an eye on them and supervise them. But through the derby eyes, I'll be the one that's in charge of the entire group that's going down. >> Last year, we had um about six other coaches or other adults that went with us, so it was plenty of supervision with the kids. And you know, I could have I should have actually thought about bringing one or two kids because they could have said just how much fun they had. Not not knowing that they were working. They were more just the interaction, seeing the sites and the the people that walk around

was just as engaging and entertaining for them. >> What kind of task do you do? >> It varies from group to group, but generally it's food running, busing tables. Um, a lot of the kids, uh, do some seating, so they'll greet people and take them to their seats. >> Just a variety of different jobs, whatever they need help with. We're usually in one of three different areas on the complex and pretty busy. >> I took a group to the Indianapolis 500 one time and I think it was $90 a day. >> Yeah. >> And um, yeah, it was it wasn't hard work, but it's just a long day, >> right? Any other questions? It's been moved and seconded to approve the amended recommendation for the athletic teams to under the direction of Tony Bell with

Kentucky Derby. Um, all those in favor of this signify by saying I >> sign motion car. I have the recommendation to approve the donation of $3,365 from Big Woods Pizza for the payment of student lunch debt at Brown County Schools. >> Is there a motion to accept this recommendation? >> I move to approve the recommendation. >> Is there a second? Second discussion. Incredibly grateful for the partnership and generosity of Big >> Is this through a specific program or is this just I mean, they have a fundraiser donation right out of >> Yeah, I believe that they held a raffle. They put something out online um specifically for student lunch debt, but I think they did it in a raffle. >> It's been moved in second to approve the recommendation for the donation of 3365 from

Big Woods towards student lunch debt at Brown Schools. All those in favor signify by saying >> I signify any extensions. I have the recommendation to approve the donation of $300 for Jamie Johan to SPA Elementary Invention Convention for the state competition. Is there a motion to approve this donation recommendation? >> I move to approve the recommendation. >> A second discussion. >> Yeah. What's Tom's coffee get? It's they have a truck that's that color and they go around and they'll they'll park fundraiser thing and they give a portion of of their sales. >> Oh no, that's different. >> This one um they're the same owners as Kona Ice the slushy. >> They just come sometimes, right? >> They come once a month to our campus. Um student council um has a partnership with

them. So that's why they're getting that kickback, but they organize it and teachers can order ahead of time and then our students, they come during the lunch. >> So they're here on campus for about two hours. So students can go out during their lunchtime and get a drink and then come back in. Cool. >> So it is about once a month that they that they come. Well, I just didn't Okay, cool. >> It's been moved and seconded to approve the donation from Tom's coffee. Get back. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I oppose. Same sign. Extension. Um we have Ronin Todd sixth grade, Lincoln Adams and River Taj Log in sixth grade as a team. Satie Roberts as a seventh grader. Allison Sher as a seventh grader. Kristen Evans eighth grader. Addie Adams

nth grade. and Genevie Laguna, both great. So, always exciting and they always have a team. They go every single year. So, it's pretty pretty impressive. Um, next week we have high school band concert um on Tuesday and high school choir concert on Wednesday evening. So, that should be something fun in the evening to come and support our kids. And um gosh, we're moving really close to spring break, which starts March 16th. Um, that pushes our normal scheduled board meeting out to Monday, March 23rd. >> Legislative. >> Um yes, and this is the last one. Uh because the session ended on Friday and it was uh in the education world. Um there are a number of bills that passed and I was just going to mention a few of them and then there were three bills

that didn't pass and sometimes you're very happy when those don't pass. So um the most interesting ones and ones we've been talking about all this time um one is the social media um I want to call it restrictions on social media for uh teenage students. And again, I wasn't even sure what the parameters of were of this because they keep changing it. So the way it ended up is it is a um children who are 15 and younger in Indiana are to get parental permission before opening an account with certain social media apps and there are at least 17 other states who have this. Um it forces media companies uh to redesign the platforms to be less addictive for kids. Uh it has u minor children are limited in their ability to do direct messaging

which I think is important. Um parents can access the child's account with their own password so the child can't keep them out of their account and um they can also set daily and weekly limits on the child's usage of that account. And then platforms must actually continually evaluate user ages based upon, you know, ones that they know have a lot of teenagers on them. They are uh certain and the way they define whether or not the company has to do these things is whether uh the user base is primarily teens, whether it has continuous scrolling, autoplay videos, and reaction buttons. And so I think some of these bills are actually um being challenged in court. But um you know the bill got better which is good. It got a lot wise. You can see a

lot more details and um you know things that hopefully will be enforceable. So it is you know the idea is to give parents more control. Um so that one takes effect and some of these I want you guys to listen to the dates because that's what's going to matter for us is January 1st 2027. Um the governor has not signed it yet. All of these I think that's the situation but um I think we expect a governor to sign it. The other one is Senate Bill 78 the Delta Bell ban on cell phones and um it ended up again mostly the same language but it has some other exceptions in it which I think were good. Um this one then does have um it applies to students cell phones, smartwatches, uh gaming devices, any type

of electronics. And during the school hours, from beginning of day to the end of the day, it must be powered off, stored away for the entire day, kept out of sight, and it can go in a lunch, a locker, or we can decide to use pouches. So they leave that decision up to us. And they the article I read said the pouch is generally 15 to $30 each. So, we'll have a decision to make. And that one starts July 1st. So, we will be busy this summer. Um, as will all schools trying to figure that out. There are exceptions to this one, which is if you have a variety of special needs and when they sort of start listing them, they're like, "Oh, there are a lot of special needs." Um, it could be you

can use it for translation. Um, you can do it for health related items. If you've got a doctor's note, you might have amplification due to a hearing um disability, you can use it to record notes or any other um special needs that are in your 504, your IEP. So, there are a number of exceptions there that we'll have to also evaluate and keep in the policy. Um, one of the good parts is the Department of Education is going to be providing guidance on how we're going to write this policy and how we're going to implement it. So, that's going to be good. It also um I don't know if this was in the first bill or not, but I'm I'm glad to see it. It says schools and staff are shielded from civil liability if

we are uh trying to enforce the ban in good faith. So, if we are doing all the things our policy says we're supposed to do and we're trying to enforce it and yet something happens, um we will hopefully won't be held liable. So, that is really good because that I can see that with the number of devices we're supposed to be monitoring if something were to happen. Um and applies to public schools and charter schools but does not apply to private schools. Um and until Jan uh until July 1st of n July 1st of 2028 uh schools can allow certain instructional devices that are school provided or school sanctioned but after July of 2028 it will be restricted to um instruct ones that you know the Chromebooks or the iPads that we give the students

and they have to be on the school network where we can then control what they can see and hear on the on the So and that'll be school supply devices. So we have initial two years in order to get to that point. So so that has a lot of pieces to it but I I do think the way it ended up it was something that was possible for us to do. So uh and again the idea of course is that that both of those are about the addictive nature of books and the disruption that they cause. So um the hope is that um you know teachers don't have to spend their time trying to monitor that all the time. Um they can spend more instructional. Um, another bill we talked about was 1423, which is

the Indianapolis Public Ed Corporation. Um, this is the Indianapolis public schools that are now um going to have nine members that are appointed by the mayor and those people will be in addition to the elected school board, but these will be appointed and they will oversee in a united system on transportation, facilities, and academic accountability. Not quite sure what the other part of the board's going to do, but um that does apply for IPS and charter schools combined. I think it was 43,000 students in those two um parts of it. But the um that that new corporation will then be um charged with the um setting of property tax levies, issuing bonds, and entering leases. And that will not be the elected school board anymore. So again, we expect the the governor to pass that.

And that will be in a place for the 29 school year. They also passed um House Bill 104 or 104 is a massive education deregulation bill. It's the second or third year that they've been doing that. It eliminates 40 provisions and changes 15 other provisions. The idea is to get rid of things that are outdated or unused or too many restrictions. Um and so some of those were great and I know that school board association was happy with a lot of those. There was one that teachers were very unhappy with which did go through which says that um in the contract I I think our the contracts voice said like 7:50 to 8 to 3:30 for example um and those are the hours of your contract and if you're working past that that is you

know your problem it will take out the the hours and so uh the ISTA was very concerned about the fact that then you know there was no limit to the amount that you know teachers could be asked to work. Um but that did stay in the bill and that is that is there now. Um Senate Bill 76 is one that got a lot of um a lot of attention uh for a lot of reasons and it does require local government like school districts to cooperate with immigration enforcement. So that one um did go through and then one more is about curriculum. Senate Bill 88 requires all schools to teach students something called the success sequence. Um which is that they want to teach students and that um if you graduate from high school, get a

job and wait for marriage to have children, it is a way to avoid poverty. And so that will be part of I think there's a list of other things that are already sort of listed as um things that we teach and that will be added to that. Um, that bill did have the Ten Commandments language in it, but that is not in it anymore. And it does say that the classical learning test will be treated the same as the SAT and the ACT. So, that's what that bill says. There were three bills that failed that um did not go forward. Um, House Bill 1137, which was a ban on ultrarocessed foods. Senate Bill 182 saying that um that was about public school students had to use a certain restroom that matched their sex. And Senate

Bill 159 um parents um oh that parents cannot make the filters on school supplied devices more strict at home. So those three bills uh were suggested and then reduced but did not pass. So that is I think the highlights. Any questions for Amy? >> Is there a motion to adjourn the meeting? >> Second. >> All those in favor signify by saying I. >> Same thing. Escape.
