of America and to the republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all 6:00 call board of school trustees of Brown County School Corporation on August 18th at 6 p.m. Uh there's no modifications to the agenda. Recognition of visitors and comments from audience. >> There's no presentation discussion. >> Yeah, I added this discussion item tonight to be able to talk just give an update about the assistant athletic director position. Um, I know a while back, uh, we had asked the board to to create this position and we wanted to create it with the the largest most open scope that we possibly could because we didn't really know exactly what we wanted or what we needed at that point. Um, and I I would like to um I still

don't know that we know exactly what what we need. um it just hasn't been that much time in the school year for us to figure that out. And instead of hiring a full-time assistant athletic director um just for the sake of of doing it, um I just think there needs to be some discussion about what the district really needs moving forward. Um and I know Josh is here to to be able to help answer any questions or to add to the discussion. Um we need help in this area. We need help with supervision of events as well, right? So, the district uh financially can appropriate up to $10,000 as a sip for current staff that would be interested in not just being at event, but um leading the event, right? Like in charge of the

event. Um, and and I think I think that's an opportunity to give staffs an opportunity to earn compensation. It gives staff that is interested in a leadership opportunity to be able to do that. And it covers athletic events across the district when we have one athletic director and um, three principles doesn't cover it all. Right? So, that's one piece of it. We can do that and we can do that right now. um and and give that opportunity to our current staff and that helps alleviate the immediate need of an assistant right now. Like that's the immediate need. I think the other piece that Josh and I have talked about is a leadership piece um to be able to help with the student leadership team, to be able to help mentor coaches, um and to be

able to just be a grow across the district. And th those are two different needs and wants, right? Um, and then I'm going to throw a third caveat into it. The district desperately needs some somebody to come in and help us with communication and not just communication with athletics, but communications across the whole district. Um, I know the Eagle Eye magazine that we've been able to put out for the last two years, um, that's probably going to come back to me to be able to to put that out. I um being able to contact the newspaper with articles and pictures and um just just having somebody to to tell our story and to help tell us our story like we need it. Our principles can't do it every day or every event. I can't do

it every day or at every event. We have not had any success with um any interns at IU in communications. We thought maybe we would get a couple people from that. Um, but we have gotten zero. Um, so I don't know. I I don't know. Is there an is does this position of the assistant athletic director could it be a halftime assistant athletic director? And then could it be a halftime district communications position? And the district communication position could also cover athletics, not Like I said, they need everything else, right? Too, but it could be the both and and so that's where we're at with it. So, I I put it on as a discussion item because I I just wanted to get it out there and see what people thought. What does the board

think about that? Um, >> do you want to add anything? Now, I'd just say this kind of came up as we sat down and talked as we had the position posted with kind of a blanket job description that we created over the summer. Um, I just looked before I came down here, we have 51 applicants right now. >> Wow. >> Um, but that is across coming from all kinds of different backgrounds. We have people that have high school athletic experience, people that have college athletic experience, people that have recreational sports experience. I mean, the applicant pool is just so broad. And whenever we sat down to talk about, okay, how would we attack an interview process for this? How would we go about forming a committee, it really came up, well, what is it we're

really looking for? Right? We didn't want to go into it blind thinking just just to pick somebody to pick somebody. We wanted to have a plan and so I think this is where this >> kind of open discussion came about is what do we really need and yeah how do we we don't want to just hire somebody to hire somebody. So >> and I don't if we are going to go halftime district communications we need to advertise for district communication piece like it can't just be hey we're going to put this assistant AD in this and then expect them change their job description for half of the day. And that's that's my concern is whether you've got somebody who has both of those two that I mean I'm sure it's possible but and then I

if we change the job description to fit this and put that out there just to see what is who is out there. There may be none that fit that, right? There could be 10 people, whatever. Maybe we do find somebody that does both really well. Um and we can find the balance there. Maybe we find out that it's not enough support and we do need a full-time assistant athletic director and then we can come back to the table and say, "Okay, we need to rethink this because we've got gaps here, here, and here. We also don't know what's out there till we put it out there and ask either, right?" So, to go through the pool that's already applied and see there's the athletics. What other skills are they advertising about themselves? Because they should

be advertising, you know, this area that you can narrow that pool down. This guy could be a feature. This one could be doing something else to whatever. So, I that's >> I think we would rewrite the just job description and we would intentionally advertise >> for both positions. >> I mean, you could go through those and find out who >> Yeah. >> But we didn't say anything about this for communications, right? So, nobody probably spoke to it or >> Well, and I think somebody asked me, you know, I don't think you posted a salary and you didn't post whether it's halftime or full-time. And those are two big issues for people, you know, what kind of job are they looking for? >> Sure. So that may kick out if you say it's only going to

be half time then that may kick out half of your applicants. >> Plus I think it needs to be somebody that you know we got to get more community involvement. So it kind of go hand in hand with the athletics and I know there's more than athletics but just the community involvement in general >> which somebody will be at the events. >> Yeah. you know, you know, get our town more active and >> I think we need to look at >> what other questions would you guys have? >> Do you have questions about the stipens for to um event event supervisors. Is that the term? >> Well, that be like a committee to determine to decide. >> I think we would push it out to staff to see who's interested. Anybody interested would seek or

let uh Mr. Golds know and then um we would only have said number of positions. So, we had more that number of positions of say say they're interested then interview process. >> So he'd be coordinating that. Correct. >> Well, that sounds like a good temporary solution, right? >> And again have the financials that are appropriated for that and good to go. Well, again, maybe it does help you figure out what what exactly you're looking for. >> Sure. >> By the then you you'll find out sort of what you need. >> I think it's hard in your position. You have it in your brain, but >> yeah. he's ever done it. >> Well, will at the next board meeting um give you an update? >> Will you be including the athletic ambassadors in the process >>

of interviewing >> or just some of these questions >> as you're as you're shaking those things? >> Yeah, I I think um I think it depends, right? Like we're I I think for the stipens, we're only going to push up to current employees. Like we wouldn't hire somebody from the outside to come in and do that. >> Um I think as far as putting it out there about a job description of communications and assistant, um I think we will just handle that as a district and see what we get back and come back to the table as a group. I think we scheduled to meet with athletic ambassadors again in October. So, >> all right. Sounds good. Any more discussion? >> Can I get a motion to approve the minutes of August 4, 2025? >>

Second. >> Any discussion? >> Yeah, I I have asked Julie to pull the executive session minutes. Um, we were supposed to have outside consulting policy analytics um about Senate Bill one and um he our outside consultant was sick and called in at the last um part of the day. So, we're going to pull those executive session minutes. >> Any more discussion? >> Let's vote. >> Doug, >> yes. >> Carol, >> yes. Vicky, >> yes. Amy, Janice, >> yes. >> Motion carries. That brings us to action needed items. >> Um, we have the recommendation to approve the donation of $156.8 from Prover Sportica Student Activity Fund. A motion to accept. >> Second. >> Any discussion? Thank you. >> Yes. >> Doug, >> yes. >> Carol, >> yes. >> Vicki, >> yes. >> Amy, >> yes. >>

Motion carries. >> I have the recommendation to approve the 2526 administrator benefits Handbook. >> Do I get a motion to accept? >> Some moved. >> Second. Any discussion? >> Yeah, we do have one uh just technical error that is in the end benefits handbook. I think it's under bereavement and it states that admin receives seven bereavement days. Um but then later in the paragraph it says that they if they don't use all five of them. Um admin, teachers, support staff all have five bereavement days. So the seven is a correct it is actually five days. So we will correct that before we push it out to the Administrators. >> Any more discussion? >> Vote. >> Doug, >> yes. >> Carol, >> yes. >> Vicki, >> yes. Amy, >> yes. Yes. >> Motion carries. >> The

recommendation to approve the 2526 support staff handbook. >> Do we get a motion to accept? >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Okay, let's vote. >> Doug, >> yes. Carol, >> yes. >> Vicki, yes. Amy, >> yes. >> Motion carries. >> I have the recommendation approve the donation of $133.36 cents from Pervert to the Spur Student Activity Fund. >> I get a motion to accept. >> Second. >> Any discussion? I have the recommendation to approve the first reading of the revised school board policies for volume 37 number two as listed. We'll get a motion to accept. So second any discussion >> yes >> Carol >> yes >> Vicki yes Amy >> yes

>> motion carries >> and the recommendation to approve the donation to Helmsburg Elementary in the amount of $500 for student clothing and or supplies. Do we get a motion to accept? >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Just grateful for the donation. >> Is it from a private person? >> It's not listed. >> Vote. >> Doug, >> yes. >> Carol, >> yes. >> Vicki, >> yes. >> Amy, >> yes. >> Motion carries. >> I have the recommendation to approve additional hours for Ashley Kent. Is it Kenet? and Amanda to work 2526 Brown County Middle School registration $10 per hour up to 14 hours each. >> We get a motion to accept second. >> Any discussion? >> This already happened, right? >> Vote. >> Doug, >> yes. >> Carol, >> yes. >> Vicki, yes. Amy, >> yes.

Janice, yes. >> Motion carries. at the recommendation for the following ECA positions for the 2025 2026 school year at Van Bear Elementary as listed. >> Motion to accept. >> Any discussion? >> Doug, >> yes. >> Carol, >> yes. >> Vicki, yes. Amy, >> yes. Jice, >> yes. >> Motion carries. The recommendation for following ACA positions 2526 school year county high school as >> second I'll second discussion >> yes >> Carol >> yes >> Vicki yes >> yes >> motion carries >> and I have the recommendation for the following ECA positions for the 2526 school year Elementary as listed. >> Do I have a motion to accept? >> So moved. Second. >> Any discussion? >> Nope. >> Doug, >> yes. >> Carol, >> yes. >> Vicki, yes. Amy, >> yes. Jice, >> yes. >> Motion carries.

>> Consent agenda items. We'll start with the separation for SPA Elementary School pair professional Jessica Elliot effective August 5th, 2025 through the appointment of Brown County High School teacher Zoe Barnett fulltime with benefits masters level G 55,500 effective August 5th 2025. >> I need a motion to accept >> second. >> Any discussion >> on the high school teacher? What's the subject? Any more discussion? Vote. >> Doug, >> yes. >> Carol, >> yes. >> Vicki, >> yes. Amy, >> yes. Janice, >> yes. >> Motion carries. That brings us to transfer. >> Yes. At the last meeting, if you recall, I think we had mentioned maybe giving an opportunity to our principles or directors um that are in attendance if they wanted to give a short brief update. So, before I have my update, I would love

to offer for any of of you guys to be able to talk about um the start of school year, anything you mention. >> I'll sort I'll go uh just wanted to update the board. We spent um last week out at Happy Hollow. So, we had a grade level each day out there. It was hot. >> Compared to a year ago, it was freezing and we couldn't get kids in the water. To this year, it the water was not a problem at all, especially for the eighth graders in canoes. Um, they found their way to the water pretty quickly. So, just wanted to appreciate say thank you to the board. Thank you for de to Debbie Harmon who helps uh find us some of the money to go out there. An amazing amazing week, amazing opportunities

uh for kids, experiences that uh you know hopefully they take with them after they leave the middle school. And you know from a parent you know friendships were made that didn't exist you know for my sixth grader um tried new things that I never would have guessed. Uh, so as a parent and an administrator, just want to thank everyone for their help. Transportation, you know, getting us out there, bringing us back. It's it took the whole team to do it and it's always a fun week for us. So, thanks everyone. >> At the high school, we're off to a really, really good start and really appreciate the board support and Emily's support as we move into a new schedule for our kids. Uh, and we added Eagle Seminar. It is really really cool to see

our kids developing those relationships with their teachers in a different capacity than what they're used to. It's more than just the the sharing of information and knowledge, right? like they are they are intentionally pouring in to young people here at that relational level and it is amazing to see and we've had some really good additions to our staff who um there's just an exciting buzz around the high school and I I am so thankful for our folks who work so hard. Um and and the last update is the partnership that we have really with the middle school this year. We have middle school students in this building every day coming to use our facilities and take advantage of our shared teachers. Uh and it is just neat. This morning we had a concert as part

of Chamberfest and we were able to bring all our musicians and uh theater kids together to hear a performer from Europe be here to to share with our kids. It's just neat to see the collaboration and kind of the family environment that's being created 612. So, we really appreciate your support there. >> Um, in the >> We don't want to hear from you. >> He's moving so I can handle it. >> In the um athletic world, we're off to a good start to the year. Um, I feel like there's a positive buzz in the department. Um, kids seem to be excited to be back on the field playing. Um, shout out to our boys soccer team Saturday. Um they won their first game. They broke a 22 game losing streak. >> So just a great

way to start the year for them. >> Uh just exciting, you know, for that program. Um lots of excitement there. Um first home football game Friday night. So come out and cheer on the Eagles. Um, looking ahead, we got homecoming on the 19th, uh, that football game September 19th. And then, um, this is not public knowledge yet, but I'm going to make it public knowledge now. On September the 12th, I have some representatives from the Indianapolis Colts coming, uh, to our home football game on the 12th, and they're donating $1,000 to the department, and I'm going to give away a bunch of free stuff, and a tailgate, and it's just going to be a fun night. So come out on the 12th as well. So just >> the 12th of September. >> October. >> Yeah.

So >> yeah, just some new exciting stuff. And if you haven't seen or followed our new social media, um we've been rolling that out. We're on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. Um lots of updates going out there. So be sure to follow and share that. And >> a great turn with the girls volleyball. Yeah. Yeah. We're um we got 30 girls out for volleyball. I'm having to schedule freshman volleyball matches, which I don't think is customary here. So, um yeah, numbers are up there. JV, we're going to play some JB soccer, boys and girls. So, numbers are up and >> great. >> Thanks, John. >> Thank you. >> Um yeah, you gave some of my updates. Thank you all three of you. Um I would echo I think we have had a really incredible start to the

school year. Um it it has been busy but it has been a whole lot of fun. Um I am so grateful to Janice and your family for being able to represent Brown County Schools at Hopefest this past Saturday. Um I think it's at least the first since I've been here the first year that I could not be there. Um and um we're just grateful that that broadcasting schools could be there because of you. Thank you. Um we are then I just wanted to give an update um the uh projects right. So the Van Beerren project um is up in and going um unfortunately I think completely unrelated to the project. Um they have some issues with the air conditioners um and half of the building is not cooling properly. Um so we have gone out

and purchased um lack of a better term a personal air conditioner for those classrooms. Um I think it's only four or five of them. Um but has been through the ringer with heat and cooling um for quite some time. So that is going on but the project is moving going along very very well out there. Um, I think we also have some HVAC challenges here at the high school um that that performance services is really trying to help us problem solve and find solutions for. Um, but we are replacing ceiling tiles um quite often and I think there's an issue with the controllers turning off or not turning off and then it gets humid in in certain areas of the building. So, um it has posed quite the challenge in this building as well that

we're trying to work through. Um I will tell you we went into every bond project that you go through, you have to go through a a bond rating with the creditors um S&P and they they take a look at all of your financials to give you a credit rating um of what the interest rate's going to be right when you get these bonds. And it is really a stressful 90 minutes um two hours because it is it's it's you are going through a fine tooth comb um and an outlook forward on your financials across the district and we just went through this last April um because we had u won the referendum right so we had some changes to our financial story and so they wanted to come back and do a new rating and

that meeting in April went really really well and we got um the stable outlook. It was an A+ rating with a stable outlook. And um that was a a big win for us because they had us at a potentially a negative um at the meeting prior before. So fast forward, we have two new bond projects. So we have to go through this process again. And Monday, um last Monday, I believe it was, was our bond rating call. And it was a really um you know, a stressful stressful meeting going into it. And um I think they were supposed to until this week to be able to tell us what those results were and they told us within 24 hours it was an Aouble plus with a stable outlook. And so I was like, "Oh my

gosh, that is wonderful news." Um even though enrollment looks like it's down um at the beginning of the year. So um that is really great news for the district. And the last thing is just an update on the athletic projects. Um last week um Tquette and their team came for an in-person uh meeting. Usually we meet bi-weekly virtually um but they came out in person on campus last week to meet with the team and uh their goal is to um be able to do a board presentation in September. Um and then we hope to be able to have something to the board to be able to actually vote on in October. With that, I think that's all I got. Just I also want, you know, tragedy last week um across the district with a with

a family and so just want to keep keep everybody in your thoughts and prayers um with their family. So that's all I have. >> That brings us to claims. Yes. >> Uh, can I have a motion to accept the claims? >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Doug, >> yes. >> Amy, >> yes. >> I'm so confused now. >> Um, can I just add something here at the end? Um I was on August 1st I went up to Indianapolis and met with the legislative committee for the Indiana School Board Association. Um they have two people from each of the 10 regions and we talk about what are the legislative priorities going to be um for the session that starts in January. It seems like it's a long way away but it's really not. Um, so we

talk about things such as what are the fundamental principles, you know, that are really important to us and then also what do we think our top priorities are. So we haven't finished that document yet. Uh, but I, you know, I love this stuff. So I enjoyed the conversation and uh, you know, obviously it it usually involves money, but in the 26 session, they may not open the budget. They only do that every other year. So there's going to be a big question about whether or not they open that budget um to fix some things because I have heard that they suddenly realize that SP1 may have some negative effects on schools and public um entities. So I have heard the the rumor that they might try to change some of that language and if they

do um it'll be a question of whether or not it it it uh opens up the budget as well. I think so. I will say and we'll have policy analytics. Um they are coming on September 22nd to do a public session on the effects of Senate Bill one and Brown County schools. I I will say though Brown County has probably gotten the least brunt of Senate Bill one across the entire state. Um we're probably going to see the most impact in our referendum dollars. Um so and and we really won't know until our AB comes out or the certified AB. That's what we'll be able to tell. But, um, I I think by preliminary um, outlooks, you know, it's we've got the 10-cent referendum. Um, it's probably going to feel more like the 8 cent

referendum um, if the A decreases the way it is. So, the good news is like there are there are school districts is not good news for them, but there are school districts across the state that are are losing hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars in 25 26 or 26 and 27 in County county schools is still in revenue. We're we're not getting as much revenue in 25 26 or 26 and 27 as we would have if Senate Bill one wasn't in place, but we're still in the black. So I >> that's good news for Brown County. >> Yeah, I was um heard from Monroe County, the county council over there um and they I think you know it it compounds. So like there was a million one year and 2 million the next year

and maybe three to five million the year after that. So um you know that is affecting uh city and county governments as well as schools all around and uh I am glad to hear that that won't affect us as much but um anyway it's just important if anybody has anything that you want me to add to that you know um I want to have any input from the board or from principles of anything. They are also asking us are there any of the paperwork reduction type of um issues. uh this session they had a bill that had a whole bunch of those and in our policy book crossing those out that those are extra not really necessary or duplicative. Um so if there's something that your they asked us and I was like I don't

know I I'm not the staff. So if there's something that you know your staff is doing that is like why are we doing this two or three times? Well, the statute says we have to um let us know that because um they again have sometimes a laundry list bill that will look at those specific issues and see how we can streamline things a little bit more. So anyway, that's what I got. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Can I get a motion to adjurnn? >> Absolutely. >> Second. >> All in favor? I >> any opposed
