Sir, >> this is something a type of things that comes across my desk every once in a while and um typically it's not something that we have participated in uh in lie of some significant issues that some of our students have had over the last two or three months um regarding social media. Uh we have been invited to join a national lawsuit addressing
the harmful effects of social media platforms specifically Meta, Tik Tok, Snapchat. There's absolutely no financial cost to the district and legal fees are only paid if there is recovery. There was a very similar uh lawsuit to this class action suit three years ago um with vaping companies that once settled provided school corporations with a good little chunk of money that could be used uh in helping kids that were dealing with addiction and vaping or dealing with in this situation problems caused on social media. In your packet, you have an authorization um to the attorneys and a resolution authorizing litigation. So, the only thing that I would need the board's uh action on is the resolution. If you so choose, Well, as much as I hate getting us involved in class action lawsuit being no cost
to the corporation, we have nothing to lose and something to gain. Maybe want us to do it for you. >> No, you want that one. All right. >> Motion of Mrs. Toss, second Mr. Richardson to approve the resolution on joining this class action lawsuit. Figure we've discussed it enough. All those in favor say I. >> I. Um, this is is something that we have been back and forth on for years simply because of the number of our ELLL students. Um we are seeing
that start to more significantly increase. Uh and it is time that we have somebody to help help us out with compliance. >> And that really is all that this ends up being is compliance. compliance means >> you have to have people that have certain licenses in your district to be able to check a box on all [Music] uh and that's for $3500 for the entire year. >> Yes. Okay. a motion there. I wish there was uh some community members here to hear that. May want to talk uh soon about how to communicate some of that to them. >> Well, we're streaming it live, so Oh, that's ahead. Sure. [Music] >> Yes. Yes. You had both of them. >> The only other thing that comes to mind is just appreciation for all the folks that are involved in ECAS. That was a long list and uh great to see those people jumping in to help. Um, I was going to say thank you for everybody that's working so hard to prepare for the office. Um, school registration's
open right now and thank you to the GEO group. [Music] >> Okay, there'll be a few repeats here for me. uh appreciation of the speakers from people and policy analytics for their clarification of var uh present and future situation has yet to be changed and hopefully resolved but they they they did well and to hear from them again always my appreciation continuing appreciation of Madison for their financial efforts and uh work on the contracts. Especially thankful to Geog Group for that large scholarship donation. It's an excellent investment school speed future and a blanket appreciation to all the teaching staff stepping forward for kind of unsung duties but still part of a great part of what makes the school function. all those extracurricular activities. Um, wow. Without them, I mean, this school would be much less
than it is helping their efforts help all students and uh all the staff members and such been the buildings all over. It may look quiet over there, but there's a lot of stuff happening at 12 months of the year. So, thanks. >> Thank I have a thank you note here from Kendall Bieber for um her receiving the school board scholarship um to help in her uh academic career. So I'll leave this for the board to read that notice. Uh ISBA conference is coming up. Uh we have a local presenter amongst us that's going to be presenting at that conference, Mrs. Madison. 018Yeah, I'm going to say this strategic plan. >> What was the time on that? >> Noon. lunch will be here. I'm going to invite Mr. Bane to give us to it. >> Yeah, I'll put part of it and then I'll be taking a group of high school students to sit. Uh, anything else? >> Thanks everyone for coming out. >> Test one, two, test one, two, three. Testing one, two, three.
