e all right I'm going to I always love to do that just so you guys I'm going to I'm gonna call the regular board meeting together uh for Thursday June 20th 2024 um I'd like to start um I think I've Rewritten what I wanted to say no less than five times um sorry I also thought that if I didn't have it in writing that I wouldn't get through this so here we go um recently I told my youngest that God gives some of the hardest battles to some of his strongest Warriors and that he wouldn't give you more than you can handle but two Sundays ago I questioned that we lost a good one and this hurts and it's overwhelmingly sad but boy I know Gary is in a better place um grro was one

of the most genuine positive generous caring selfless and God-fearing men that I've ever known he committed his life to kids of Center Grove for 43 years and then we were blessed to have him two more years serving this community over the last week and a half I've heard a ton of Gary stories I was lucky enough to hear um from about Gary from his children and his amazing wife Elizabeth at his service I got to see the video of the 1972 Center go of Basketball Championships winning shot or as we were told um Gary lovingly referred to it as the past um in everything that I listened to one thing stuck out the most was how much he Lov Center Grove he would leave every board meeting any executive session or any lunch by thanking

me for being there and telling me I was doing a great job um I've never had him as a teacher my kids didn't either dang it but I could only imagine how a teenager would feel with such kind words said to them when they left his classroom he always had a list with him um it would be on a napkin a piece of paper whatever he had but he made sure that everyone he spoke with the month prior was heard at the next board meeting if you knew him you were lucky if you see the empty seat up here with us it's devastating and to say we're going to miss him is an understatement also to say thank you to him is just truly not enough so I'd like to have a moment of silence

for Gary Robinson thank you um I get to lead the Pledge of Allegiance so if everybody would stand I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America to [Laughter] we did they did do the fight song too which was amazing all right so um item 3.1 is the adoption of the agenda Madam president I move that we adopt the agenda thank you Mr Daniels do I have a second second thank you Mr Alexander um all those in favor signify by saying I I any opposed okay motion pass is 4 Zer um and on to public comments I don't think we have any we don't have any okay and next item um are our consent items um does anybody have any discussion no all right do I have a motion Madam president I

move that we approve the consent items thank you Mr Daniels do I have a second second thank you Mr Alexander all those in favor signify by saying I I any opposed okay motion passes for zero um president I may we have some people we'd like to introduce I know I just wanted to tell Mrs Mills that I'm mad at her but I was grateful I'm grateful that you got all my kids out of there before you decided to do this anyway go ahead that's great thank you like to call out Kaye Brown our executive director of HR she's going introduce a couple people in the room tonight exced aab in she's excited element Tec element [Applause] Alp aluc she serves as teer in 201 2018 she at as ition princip at map for six years

yes ume is going to be joining us as the principal at Sugar grub Elementary and I think she's just going to do [Applause] on duty right [Laughter] now department at SCH [Applause] andby I was wondering what you did this time am there was a sheriff's deputies I know and then we're gonna have Christy Burger executive director of student services join us come up here with me as well so I'm so excited to um introduce Megan K she has been in education for 15 years she's been a school counselor at C high school for the last nine years and the last four years she was actually the director over there at the high school so she'll be joining our team um as our school counseling coordinator andan just brings a wealth of knowledge for what our

students need to be ready when they leave our space and so with all the changes to our graduation um come up and Pathways we know that is going to do a great job for our students and here so we're so excited um not with her today but her is lo thank thank you [Applause] welcome and last but certainly not least uh Miss Kristen Rodman's goingon to join us she's our director of Elementary special education to welcome back um Miss Jenny toor school this is her she's finished her 17th year in education um she is a former special education teacher here in C gr but also in Texas New York and Tennessee um in uh 2015 16 she was our district teacher of the year here in C gr um she served us as a special

teacher and as a program support um staff member as well and so we welcome her back to Center Grove as our new direct or coordinator of our Academy and we are so thrilled to have and continue to see the growth of our preschool and our Academy so welcome [Applause] Jen thank you okay um next is action item 6.1 which is our superintendent contract hearing um so here we go um ahe okay this evening's board meeting has been appropriately advertised as the hearing on as a hearing on the superintendent's contract so I now open the public hearing and I'd like to call on Dr Taylor to provide some additional information on the superintendent's contract thank you madam president yes the uh the summary I'm about to kind of summarize um was shared in the Daily Journal

appropriately um the board is not going to take action tonight we're not asking for any action tonight this is a statutory requirement for a hearing um and I'll run through the sum the terms of the contract now the contract will run for two years commencing on July 1st 2024 and ending on June 30th 2026 it's a 260-day contract spaning 12 months running from July 1st through June 30th of each year um the monetary value for the salary and base amount is $215,000 annualized and the board in its sole discretion may increase the amount um via the terms of this agreement they may also um if other level a administrators receive the same performance valuation category as superintendent um the superintendent would receive a one-time stien or base salary increase depending on what the the level

a administrators received that year um the plan also calls for a retirement contribution roughly totally the amount of 20,000 then 40 then 20 and it's split amongst a 403b plan and a 403a plan those have some um statutory limits that can't be exceeded so that's why the the the numbers might vary um throughout the years of this two-year contract superintendent will participate may continue to participate in the corporation's Health dental and vision plans in accordance with the level a administrators um package um the school corporation also agrees to provide a term life insurance with a face value not less than 450,000 not more than 500,000 superintendent will contribute this is a consistent amount of a dollar toward that premium each year um the board also is allowing for an providing allowance in the sum of

$12,000 per each contract year as part of this um to be used for autom automotive automobile and mileage expenses and the superintendent agrees will not submit any claims for reimbursement um for those two items um paid personal leave sick leave holidays bement funeral leaves um are all in accordance with um the level a administrators um and all other any Fringe benefit that wasn't listed up above that the level a administrators receive also would be extended to the superintendents um one one little additional thing here a lot of the contributions up above um can also be included as annual compensation as reported to Indiana um teachers retirement fund and we will we will use that moving forward um the board will pay for any membership and participation in professional organizations um all reasonable expenses for travel

to National and private um conferences um with prior approval from the board to attend such conferences and then the board will perform a performance review of no less than twice each contract year with one being a verbal review and one being a written review again we're not asking for any action this evening there'll be a separate meeting next week for that and I believe that's included in the hearing notes and that's all the summary I have to provide thank you thank you the appropriate time for members of the public to comment on the superintendent's contract or the information presented this evening are there members of the public present who would like to comment no okay um I now close this public hearing are there any board members who have comments or questions I guess I

I would just like to thank Dr long for um expressing an interest and being our superintendent and the process uh we had very very productive conversations to to get to this proposal which I think is is fair to to everyone involved looking forward to having a a vote here in a week and having him be our next superintendent so I I I thank him for one accepting and two the conversations to get to where we're at looking forward to Mrs Council I apologize I neglected to make one statement may I do that this time it's not part of the summary but the total compensation amount is actually a savings over the prior superintendent contract that was approved by the board and I wanted to be clear to share that with the community yes yes anybody

else no okay well we're not taking action on it this evening so there will be a special meeting at 8:00 am on June 27th 2024 um that will actually approve the superintendent's contract next item action item 6.2 um approve the statement of benefits and Dr Taylor will provide us some more information on the benefits thank you Mrs counts as part of our your agreement with the bargaining unit and all of our teachers we included a 1% increase for the 2024 25 school year um we're bringing this action tonight to extend that 1% increase to the support staff and the administration in accordance with that same same amount and so a lot of the changes you'll see throughout the statement benefits are just reflecting that 1% increase um for base salaries we did go ahead and

adjust the holiday dates that we're aware of um and we clarified some languages on um signon referral bonuses made some changes to sub pay um and added some specific language about our sub bonus incentive which has um become very popular and has yielded even more subs than we've had in Prior years so very positive language um those are just the things we clarified now if something were to happen and we were to receive more revenue or be able to increase this amount we would bring that back at a later date um but we wanted to make sure it was consistent this will be the first year um in my recollection that we can start and pay the first um payrolls at the new amount for all employees and so that's the action we're asking for

this evening is approval of the statement of benefits and compensation thank you does anybody have any discussion Jason just kind of to be clear on this and I I think you've said it but the 1% is part of our two-year contract with the teachers right that is correct and we refer to them as openers if something happens where we have more kids if something happens where we have more Revenue then there's certain things we talk to the teachers about about openers yes so just the fact fact that we're approving the or voting on the 1% tonight doesn't close the openers it just gets the money in the people's hands sooner right yes it's very well said and exactly correct thank you I just want to clarify and based on the initial budget runs we've gotten

I know we don't have the final yet yep um we don't we're not anticipating any additional we are not at this time and we are comfortable with the amounts that we've already agreed to okay they can fit those into the budget budget okay y we still have a we a lot of input points that come after July 1st through June 30 or through August 30th so um we'll keep watching it weekly okay see if we get that flood of kindergarteners that all show up at once I think it's going to be first graders I think the past few years it's been more of our secondary yes that is correct okay um do I have a motion Madam president I move that we approve the statement of benefits as presented thank you Mr Alexander thank you

Mr Russell um all those in favor signify by saying I I any opposed motion passes 4 zero um next action item 6.3 to um approve the uh resolution electing to join the 1977 police officers and firefighters pension and disability fund uh Dr Taylor yes thank you very much um the 1997 1977 fund has been available to um police and firefighters but not available to ones that work for schools and we worked with uh representative Davis and Dr long and chief Jackson even gave testimony towards this so that um they added some language that starting in July first um school resource officers um school police officers would be able to join this fund um this has been a limiter for us in the past as we look to hire and attract officers who might be working

for a city Town County or even the state and so it opens up um to a wider candidate pool it also honors um some of the officers that we have on duty already had qualified for this fund and their priv prior assignments and so what the board has in front of them tonight is a it's a it's a very form form likee resolution provided by the fund that we were we're asking for approval on to move forward we don't anticipate that all of our SRO will be eligible or will join the fund um there is a financial commitment both for the corporation and for um the officer um in order to join the fund the other great part of this is not only does it offer retirement and a pension plan like we have with

our Public Employee Retirement fund but it also offers a um a service death is that line of duty um payment if if necessary and so it's an added benefit and some comfort if if something like that were to happen so um we're very supportive of this the corporation led the way to kind of help make this happen Statewide and we're excited to be able to bring this resolution this evening for your consideration anything to add there Dr long no okay thank you thank you awesome any discussion just uh a thank you to to Dr long and and chief Jackson for for working with representative Davis on this this is something I I lobed for a few years back and we couldn't couldn't get it done because they weren't eligible and there were some other issues

around that too so thank you for sticking with that and getting this over the Finish Line yeah okay uh do I have a motion Madam president I move that we approve the resolution electing to join the 1977 police officers and firefighters pension and disability fund thank you Mr Alexander do I have a second second thank you Mr Russell all those in favor signify by saying I I I any opposed motion passes 4 zero thank you action item 6.4 would be to approve the 20242 student hand book revisions and Jason Andy bur okay all right good evening everybody um thanks so much for coming I'm bringing our updates for next year's handbook um as you all know each year we have a great committee that comes together that looks over the handbook make sure we stay

up to date with current legislation and then obviously take care of things that are outdated so um all of these are pretty lengthy but I will say that most of it is um some grammar some outdated information um that's in there however the things that I'm going to go over today in a little bit more detail were legislated um and actually are in all four of our handbooks so Tracy's going to kind of go in between so um all the items that I'm going to go over this evening will be available to the public via board Doc tomorrow so just want to clarify that um one of the biggest changes is through Senate enrolled act 282 and so this discusses how we will address attendance um especially for our k6 students so actually this will

be in the elementary middle school and the academy handbook and so a change from that legislation was that if a student is um absent five days unexcused within a 10-week period the school is to host a meeting with that child in their Guardian so um we're going to work on a protocol for our school counselors and social workers to work um with our APS and Deans to set those meetings up just to be more proactive uh make sure we're creating a plan for how to get those students to school make sure that if the parents and families need any resources we able to provide that before they get to those 10 days or 15 days which is when um probation gets involved so that will be a big change for our K through sixth grade

uh families hey chrisy do you mind do you would you tell the school board how many people last year reached that um put me on the spot um it was over 2,000 this I it was 2300 that we had that had 10 unexcused absence so um obviously all of those would would have had to have that five meeting um so that's going to be a huge lift for I had one of my kids reach it one time and I told them they were the only kid in school that's not true um but we are going to be I wish you wouldn't have shared that information now I publicly for them to come see now I know I misled my child and I was trying to get them to go back to yeah and we're going

to be really proactive we're going to send a letter to families to just remind them what those unexcused absence are we know vacations and things like that come up but when they do add up to those five days um every 10 weeks we will be reaching out and having that conversation and so we're just going to really hone in on that we know our students need to be in their seats to learn and so that's really important so this may be a weird question but I've had people say they just don't quite understand the whole process uh so is that something we need to look into is is is it user friendly to do the reporting or is what user friendly how we share out that number yeah or how they call in oh yeah

the weite and stuff I have not done it of course so Stacy does a wonderful job with that as always with communication sharing that out with families the schools do it on back to school night we've put together some additional PowerPoints that our school counselors and social workers will prepare and share that evening um that kind of walks through how to do that but I think yes we do a great job will we need to do it more probably so we'll be really intentional on how we communicate that with families how to reach us how to um put that in Skyward so that we're able to yeah more than once is probably needed just from the standpoint oh yeah we put it out a lot my kid was fine up until December and then once

I got to do it oh I forgot how it go but now again it may be step by step easily followed I don't know and our Clinic staff obviously helps with all of that too just because they'll need to do it for excuse and unexcused absences so that's a great reminder that we'll make sure we do it just seems like a high number of people it's quite a bit yes so we will be focusing on that that again is just for our six students um but that will be new because at day 10 we will be sending a letter from the well we won't the prosecutors will be sending a letter to those is just law we have to this is all law that I'm talking about right now um so that will be different

for our families historically we didn't send that letter till um day 10 so it's kind of just a little change for them um so we'll do a lot with communication being more proactive making sure we're giving families the support they need to get their kids to school um we obviously want to eliminate those barriers so our kids can learn so we'll be focusing in on that as a counseling assistant principal and Dean Team in truy is on the the list of legislators uh because we weren't the only ones facing these numbers no across the state exactly yep so we thought we'd see a dip back up after covid and I don't think nationally not just Indiana we haven't seen that so can I can I make a a request in in January can we get

an update as to how we're doing yeah like year over years you know whatever steps you're putting in place are we seeing an impact yeah we can definitely get some Trend data for you um our team will have to track uh that meeting with that family then we'll follow their attendance after that so I can definitely bring that back in January we can show you student we can show you as well that um our Deans and assistant principles that was one of their goals for their PLC this year and we saw our our attendance start to creep back up um but they've worked really really hard at doing that and you know since Co we are we lost that I guess that impedence to come to school every single day um but the um they

worked really hard this year to make that a priority and then this law um also helps us en enforce that so um I we can show you numbers at the end of this year compared to the end of last year and then if you want to see six months you know six months after this new we can kind of show you three data points that might be good to share okay thank you and we're thankful for our Johnson County um probation partnership this is going to be a huge lift on their system as well and so we're really lucky to work with the partners we do so um we'll continue to do that a new update for all four handbooks again was just focusing in on our Center Police Department and making sure that the

language um clarified and defined the role of a school resource officer during an investigation but also really intentional to update language to refle reflect best best practice so how do we use our school resource officers how do they support us how do they um follow their um best practices so that's on there another one um that is for again all four handbooks is Senate Bill 185 and this addresses being able to use wireless devices during instructional time um so we've had something similar to this in all of our handbooks really um throughout the years but we will really be focusing in on um especially at our high school making sure cell phones um airod pods watches any device is not out during instruction time unless a teacher has permitted that so that will be a

lift for our teachers our students but also for our parents because I know they like to be able to check in with their students and so we'll really be encouraging some partnership with that from our teachers obviously students and then their families as well so that language is all in there um in addition last maybe board meeting um our connected learning team came and talked about um artificial intelligence or Ai and so that we know that that is ever growing so we have also added that into all four of our handbooks and so we really were just intentional and making sure we outlined the responsibility and the ethical use of that for students so I am going to read this one verbatim because H this is not my area of expertise but uh students may

not use AI to violate school rules or discipline or District policies teachers will clarify if and when students are able to use AI because obviously that is a part of post uh School careers and so we want to teach them how to use it appropriately right um we want to make sure that they know the use of AI to take tests complete assignments create projects write papers or do any paperwork without permission is prohibited and would be constituted or constitutes as cheating or plagiarism then we will talk to our students about how to use AI responsible and we'll focus really in on that digital well-being so the importance of taking breaks from um social media digital world um and really watching their screen time as students so all of that language that Tes is going

over has been included in all four handbooks as well the next one um due to update of board policy 2140 which speaks to the recording of meetings such as parent teacher conferences case conferences 504 meetings discipline related conferences is prohibited unless it's necessary for a par parent or Guardian to attend so we just wanted to speak to that in our handbook as well um the last one that is across all four is um Amy Norman helped us to update some of our Health Service language due to the updated CDC language so we had to um redo our definitions of vomiting skin skin sores and diarrhea so all of those have been updated to match cdc's language was real excited to say that today in front of everybody um yeah live stream um and then imag

the conversations you have at home well we just wanted to be real clear so there wasn't any to go hand in hand with attendance definition should be pretty easy there you would think so if you want to go Tracy to the middle school one uh one specific update there was we really wanted to be intentional for our eighth grade students or other students too but tends to be eighth grade who are taking High School courses um we wanted to make sure we spell out that High School Credit um if a student taking that in 8th grade it will appear on their transcript and it will be a part of their high school GPA so there's been some confusion about that people thought they would maybe get like a redo their freshman year um and there

are some um circumstances where if they retake the class in high school um they can replace grades but if they do not that stays permanently on there so we wanted to just make sure we spoke to that for Middle School parents um a high school specific one is just about graduating early um if students want to graduate at seventh semesters or sixth semesters we've really outlined what that'll look like um again thinking futuristically with the proposed diplomas we'll probably have to tweak that again um but for next school year we'll stick with the update there and then the last one was specific to the academy just because their time schedule is a little different um we just wanted to put in there that parents and Guardians need to let the office know by 10: a.m.

about an absence so that we can plan accordingly for that so those were the m major updates like I said there's a lot more on there but it was predominantly language or removing or some grammar errors that were before so any other questions okay all right thank you thank you all right if there's no other questions do I have a motion Madam president I move that we approve the 2425 student handbook revisions as presented thank you Mr Alexander do I have have a second second sorry Mr Daniels thank you uh all those in favor signify by saying I I any opposed motion passes for zero uh action item 6.5 uh first reading of proposed policy revisions and I believe that is Dr long it is thank you um tonight we are asking the board to

just take a look at first reading again there's no action taken this is just a first reading it's um the the June update that we typic Ally get from Neola uh these are updated to match changes in the laws or or um any of the requirements passed down from the state there is one policy in there that um it doesn't take an action item but it's uh board policy 26 23.0 one it's about test security and um really feel like at the end of the year after we've gone through a testing cycle we'd like to make sure that we review this and so it's been reviewed um on a regular basis um there's no change to it there hasn't been any policy changes or anything down from the doe it's just important for us to

if there were a test irregularity we would have to report to the doe when the last time we reviewed this so reviewing it kind of proactively will help us to say we've reviewed it on an annual basis now and we've not done that in the past uh but we'll we'll start doing that uh moving forward uh the rest of the policies like I said match the the um the changes in the law that were required to make I've met with uh Jim halik the the Neola representative and we've gone through them and we'll continue to look them over in our cabinet meetings to make sure that they're in line with uh what our current policies say or to make sure that they match the state laws thank you Dr thank you turn my back um

all right I just have to mention Jim HCK is an alumni it's done great things from CG he he may have mentioned that when uh when we meet once or twice yeah I love meeting with Jim he'll tell you what he's thinking all right again no board action tonight the board will take action on on this July 18th yes in our board meeting um the next action item 6.6 um we need to name a new board School Board secretary and um Mr Russell has um oh I understand okay we have to have a nomination Madam president I nominate Mr Russell for possession of Schoolboard secretary thank you Mr Alexander I'll second thank you Mr Daniels all right all those in favor of oh do we need to have any discussion job you know what this

was not in writing sorry everyone sorry at least I didn't cry through this one so time in practicing this I'm just kid yes I'm just kidding all right can now we nominated you that means we're going to vote for I've never done this before so you're any discuss yeah is there is there any discussion for anyone no Jack do you have anything that you would like to say I I hate getting it this way way I understand okay all right so um do I have take a vote Yes okay thank you uh all those in favor signify by saying I hi hi any opposed does it pass three Z or 4 Z 4 I didn't know if he voted so there we go um okay sorry everyone that was that was painful I apologize to

everybody uh the um we do have the I did announce it earlier I know it's not on here but we do have a special um meeting on June 27th at 8: a.m um um and then our next um executive meeting and or executive session and board meeting are July 18th 2024 um with that does does anybody about the opening the vacancy the thank you thank you yes so we also um need to have um all of the letters of intent if you will for Gary's position by I think Friday June June 28th so um anybody who's interested can email the school board or you can email me directly um and we can make sure that we get it get all of the um letters in we've had a few people drop them off here they

can do that too if they'd rather drop them off here at the office thank you okay um Jack do you have anything that you'd like to say no I've got isba books again I'll get to you guys um we got notice from the Greenwood Redevelopment commission that there were no excess funds in the in any of the uh Tiff tax inter commit financing districts um I'm anticipating a similar letter coming from the Johnson County Redevelopment commission as well um I guess just as matter of public record I'll be taking Gary's place over at Central beginning in July I'm sorry you have to help me we have sent uh we are going to do 50% of the yearbooks for alumni is that where we're at yeah I don't know what the exact number is on a

to dig our school collection awesome you know that was the worst part of planning I did our 20-y year high school reunion um for Perry and trying to find our yearbooks was the hardest part of that so anyway that was fun all right anything else no Mr Damons um I know we have a huge void on the board thanking everybody who's who's applied those are shoes that will not be fully filled ever but with that being said I know it was sudden it was shocking I've known Gary coached me in eighth grade basketball and freshman tennis so I've known him almost my whole life great great just great person um I want to personally thank Bill long and his team for how they met the Robinsons with open arms had not only the celebration of

life but the showing and the funeral on really no notice on Friday and Saturday and to hear Elizabeth up on stage and and a daughter up on stage even acknowledge that means means a lot not only about Bill and his team but also about us as a community so everybody embraced and lifted them up and to hear the speeches and the grisms that they all they all shared was was priceless so thank you Dr long and you probably I I'm hoping would would know the list of everybody who helped you've shared a few of them with me I won't mention them because I don't want to miss anybody but thank you for for you and your team welcoming them with open arms and and making in a a horrible situation but a great remembrance well

so so proud of everybody that you know no matter what we asked no matter what short how short of a notice they're like yeah we'll get that taken care of and the high school um uh Kyle Mason at the high school and and Jake and and Trish Ferguson were awesome and Dr Henderson it just there are lots of people but everybody made it happen you know Jason was running technology the choir parents helped set up the video board you know Mr Alexander helped them I mean it just was amazing to see everybody and and the the parents that put together meals and and daycare it was just it was really warming warming to see the community pull together that's awesome I thought it was awesome when you I got there a little after two for

the the visitation time and I will tell you I don't think that that line stopped it was great to see I stood behind a whole bunch of students and it was cool to see everybody come out I mean you had students you had Parents you had just there were so many people and it was amazing that's you know when you go out that's that's the way you hope you go out as all those people that that love you so anyway it was awesome yes anything else I don't anything okay I'll close this meeting and we have the good Grove
