Pledge of Allegiance yes sir do we have anybody we do not know I will do it please stand I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you first order of business is the adoption of the agenda do I have a motion I moved away that we agenda for the current school board meeting thank you Mr Robinson do I have a second thank you Mr Russell we have a motion and a second all those in favor signify by saying aye all those opposed motion passes 5-0 thank you first second order of business this evening is recognitions Dr arkanov thank you this evening I'd like to invite akella up to the microphone who's

going to do some recognitions for us we've had a great year in athletics and he's going to share out some great things with our track and baseball teams so I'd like to first thank the board for allowing us to come recognize our student athletes and our programs I've had the privilege to come quite a few times this year because we've had a great year of success today we have some of our spring Sports and spring athletes and we have some plaques to hand out to some of our state champions as well if I could have Coach Moore come up and present or at least say of who the state champions for his track team and we will present the Plex we got to break it in this week yeah it's it's there all right uh

for uh the 2023 state championship meet uh You're right our single event state champion who's not here tonight he's out of state uh is Parker Doyle the 300 330 intermediate hurdle state champion Parker also uh ran in the 110 and my computer measurement he had a state record going and tripped and fell down and that's the first event of the night so to come back and win the hardest event which is a 300 hurdle it's pretty pretty powerful and pretty unbelievable to come back and run the second fastest time ever in that event as well so Parker Doyle congratulations he's not and our the last event actually the last event of my entire track coaching career is the 4x400 the mile relay uh the feature event of the night in which we ranked number one

all year and then we got upset in the region because our guys are running multiple events but we came back in the state championship cut four seconds off our time we're like Roger Penske in the Indy 500 there all the boys cut us almost a second off their time and we ran a 316 and won the state championship our anchor is here tonight Zach Growler in our number our lead off guys here to our number two guys here tonight uh Reverend hildebar so they come up they were state champions in the 4x400. [Applause] did I hear you correctly coach 316 yeah we were 320.5 all year long and we run a 316 there by I think they thought I blood doped him or something I'm not smart enough to do that but uh it was

amazing night for our tracking and Michael Coyle who's not here uh was our you know ran the lead off and did an unbelievable job in Parker Doyle also uh ran the number three in that so Parker could have had three blue medals that night and he wouldn't fail and Parker and Zach both competed in the uh best of Midwest national championships uh the next weekend at mayor it was held in Indiana this year uh so I was really proud of their efforts in that as well Justin not really okay what's this for is this for a class yes we already have one and they keep one they each each of these guys yep so these are for uh Parker for our office yeah yeah okay Coach Moore hey Coach Moore as I understand it you've

officially retired as well from track huh [Laughter] so Joe you got some big shoes to fill on the track side huh absolutely yeah next we like to call Coach Keith Hatfield recognize and talk about our baseball team 2023 was a special year for us we don't have a lot of our guys here a lot of them are out of the state uh playing or they're up on the North side of Grand Park but with us we have our 2023 Johnny Bench Award winner Grant Sawa Kyle shimbra Caden Cornett Ben Murphy Christian Brown Bradley Gilliam Garrison barill it was one of the more resilience resilient groups I've had this year a lot of seniors a lot of big shoes to fill but it was a it was a fun group to be around probably the highlight

of the tournament was being down in the semi-state coming back winning that fell one game short but uh doesn't take away how much these guys mean to me and how much I'm going to miss the seniors and how much I look forward to what this is going to build on in the future so happy for all of them can't wait to see how they the seniors do in college a lot of them going on to play most of them I think and uh appreciate everybody here having us recognizing us and hopefully next year we're back here again thank you congratulations thank you great job great season [Applause] s so before before everyone leaves I'd like to just recognize two other folks so Kenny and Joe would you come up here for a moment um our

uh our athletic directors this year we'll stand right here we don't have any uh a nice uh plaque or anything for you uh but we wanted just to take a moment and share how much we appreciate everything that you've had to do this year and and Joe coming in uh new and being handed quite the mess uh to uh pick up and we're just very very impressed with both of you and what you've done for all these people in the room here and for our programs and some of the things that have happened this year we just want to thank you to both for that and recognize the great work that you've done so if we can recognize it [Applause] I know when I came in your office and said how are you doing had

all those things going you go I I live for this I love this stuff so so I understand we have a full football schedule nice work yes great job nice work sure thanks yeah when's the last time that happened coach okay hold on [Applause] thank you yes thank you I was sitting in waiters she was wearing a baseball hat I didn't recognize her and it took a minute for it to click that that was Katie sitting in front of me you look like a high school kid yeah we will cut extra laps yes thanks all right next order of business is the safety and discipline report and is that Dr Long yes sir yes sir I'm a little disappointed that everybody left I thought they were here to hear this report but I'll muddle through

it without them so I understand Bill okay thank you thank you that's not how long do we need to clap uh save it for after the uh the Personnel report fair enough so we're here tonight or we are I am here tonight to to review our police and discipline report that we do on an annual basis um so we'll get right into uh to to the report so this is from the Center Grove Police Department you can see the number of runs there in red and the number of arrests in yellow you can see we've kind of eclipsed our pre-covered numbers uh I I think most schools throughout the state and probably throughout the country would tell you that behavior from students is uh maybe at an all-time level and we'll show you some some

numbers that kind of support that a little bit but we've kept the police department busy with 436 runs and our yeah 436 runs and 84 arrests this year yes those are just I know sure other things right no those are just ours go ahead so they're they're broken out quite a bit um and it's kind of hard to see but you can see battery uh is up from last year we had 24 uh arrests for battery this year 36 uh battery with bodily injury um we had four of those this year last year we had zero intimidation last year we had one this year we had seven actually possession of marijuana went down from last year we had nine this year and 13 last year those are just kind of the the bigger numbers all

the rest of them ones and twos consumption and alcohol possession of alcohol criminal mischief things like that are all the smaller the smaller numbers so we had uh or we had at the beginning of the year three dogs two of them have decided to leave the field of education and retired um we use them we did 12 deployments and searches did seven presentations 73 hours of training with them and and lampayo and Ito are both retired since then scene right now we're not um it's it's a pretty expensive even though you know we raise the dogs or we raise the funds for the dogs uh the dogs didn't cost us but the time and and effort that it takes to uh to maintain them to stay at their Handler's home and everything uh right now

we're not we're not looking to replace them sure yeah we've been very fortunate the last couple of times that we needed a a bomb dog we were able to partner with Clark Pleasant and they sent their dog and their Handler over so uh and of course we've got connections still with the the airport and we've used their dogs before and obviously the state police still stands by ready we used to use them way before before we had our own so the the 2223 citations uh actually we're down a little bit the um the 20 citations and and 13 warnings are all traffic related and they're not always just our students they're sometimes our parents or sometimes people uh maybe a contractor or somebody who makes a left-hand turn off of uh Stone's crossing road when

they're not supposed to but those numbers are down significantly from last year and I think a little bit of that is attributed to our real focus and the number of calls and services that we had in the building and it's you know that's where our primary focus is anyways in in those buildings talk a little bit about the training you can see the um the uh the the types of training that our police officers do you know one of the things that I challenge Chief Jackson with is to make sure that we have one of the best trained police departments in Indiana not just the best trained school police department so we're fortunate enough to partner with like I said earlier the airport Authority uh Greenwood Johnson County Sheriff's Department uh anybody that has some

training around they've been real welcoming and and letting us uh participate you can see here that we had almost 300 hours of training by our police officers this past year so our new one of our new sros had 617 hours from iela that weren't included in that that other training that we talked about um all the officers received these trainings in active shooter 200 hours of that additional firearms training 14 hours in school safety specialist training 80 hours and the evoc training uh 56 hours for a total of about 912.5 hours one of the things that I wanted to mention is Chief Jackson was named a nazro National Practitioner this year and to get that you have to have three years as an SRO you have to have completed the 40-hour nazro basic course you

have to do the 24-hour nazro Advanced course or the nazro supervisor and management course and raised on both of those you have to have an extra 160 hours of specialized police training and then attend at least one National or nazaro school safety conference so Chief Jackson recently had that and I know we have two other of our sros that are real close to receiving that I'm really proud of that I think that shows their dedicate station to to be in a school of safety police officer so we you know we started last year tracking the contact hours that that are um that are sros maintain whether it's in out in public doing traffic doing guests speak speaking engagements or uh just student mentoring and we've had sort of an informal student mentoring program going on

and I think Christy Berger and Ray have been talking about making that a little bit more formal we've seen that model used in a couple of the other in some conferences we've heard presentations and Christie's been great about taking the lead and Ray's real excited about doing that so I think that can only help their relationship with students but also help our students help help them get along better at school so to break that down they spent about 54 percent of their time in traffic control uh 40 of it in in student mentoring and then about five percent of that is is doing guest speaking so on to the student discipline report um this year we took out the other category Mr Daniels Mr Alexander uh but I I do want to re-emphasize that everything

from bullying down is not reported as a category to the idoe everything above bullying and above are the K only the categories that we report to the doe so my assistant Lynn did a great job working with the buildings to to break down those other categories so we could have a better uh um just a better understanding of what's going on in the buildings and and you can see you know um uh was a lot from the high school the middle school is 962 and honestly our elementary ones are the ones that are kind of creeping up a little bit on us the behavior in the Elementary's um sure yeah Lynn Lynn like I said Lynn did a great job of working on that I was trying to look from the numbers last year last

year at the high school we had 873 this year 1309 middle schools we had 962 last year 733 and at the elementary schools 422 and we had 494 this year so the behaviors are the incidences are increasing um and that's kind of too bad it makes it tough for our teachers makes the stuff for our administrators and and tough for our school police officers too school with 1300 nine of them and under 410 being attendants yeah you know um I I think one of the things that I would tell you is that Krista Nelson is working really hard with the Johnson County people to help us figure that out and to to get better at that and um I don't know is she here today do you want to say anything else other than you

know one of the things that's changed is that um we should send seven day letters and the the prosecutor doesn't want us to send seven days letters anymore so now we're up at 10 days before you get your first letter at home um and that's just that's right but we we've had some kids that that Miss quite a bit and um I I think our partnership with the family resource program that we've had for probably seven eight nine ten years has really paid off they're great to work with they help review our attendance policies and and they're they're fighting with us too as well as to try how to address our attendance issues it's not somebody walking or the first right when they get a 10-day letter or seven-day letter last year that's one one

incident um but but yeah that's those are those numbers are high and honestly we've struggled since we've come back from covid um about 28. 20 almost 29 yeah but right so last year um attendance we had 231. at the high school we had one at the middle school and none at the elementary school so you can see where attendance has become a a bigger issue and and and Chris he's working with the Deans and the APS in Johnson County we'll see if we can improve on that a little bit for next year thanks for the report of us sure just a little bit of breakdown in school and out of school suspensions and that's not the right chart sorry if you'll notice the numbers were exactly the same uh it should show the in-school suspension

number the 227 667 and 1097 are are correct the out of schools it's been 212 for the high school 267 for the elementary school and 295 for the middle school that those numbers have increased as as much too but our schools do a really good job of keeping kids in the school I think that's why our in-school numbers are up a little bit than what they've been in the past because we know sending a kid homes not not really in their best interest so we we try really hard and you'll see when you look at the um at the uh the expulsions too that that we've tried really hard to find an alternative to keep our students in school it's it's not good sometimes we just can't help it and we all just really need

to but most of the time they're really good to work with us on trying to find an alternative to sending a student home so you can go next so just a little bit of a breakdown on the this these are all the in-school and out of school suspensions combined um so I was wrong Mr Daniels when I told you 410 met 410 ladders there's probably more ladders since 410 is the number of suspensions that we had yeah and we we do talk about that all the time that suspending a kid that's not coming to school seems counterproductive but uh their their times where especially at the high school that they may end up being you know at 40 or 50 days and and not coming to school so um they they have to work with

with them and their parents on that sure I've had parents and sometimes just over the years that the attendance policy they think it's hard to understand or you know how to go about it and all that I mean have we cleared that up from year to year I I think it's very simple and I I think it's very simple and and honestly it's uniform really from from elementary all the way to high school really all parents need to know is I I should call in when my kids are sick or they're not coming to school for whatever reason you know what the way we categorize it is how we report it to the doe so um it's you know but it's not confusing when you're missing 50 some days uh that that's not a confusion

yeah um and and we've had some students Miss over what 90 days almost a hundred days of school so uh that that's a challenge that we have because you know uh at high school the prosecutor would say that's not really the parent's fault that's really the the kids deal at elementary school they would say that's something that you got to work with the parents with and and I think Krista uh Christy Krista we got too many of those sorry um she's done a really nice job of simplifying and making it streamline Jack that it that it matches honestly K-12 for us and it and it's one that the the Family Resource uh office in with the prosecutor and the the probation have have have really endorsed and honestly using what what she came up with

as a model for the other County Schools so I think it's it's simple call in if your kid's not coming to school you know we'll sort out the rest of it but sure absolutely the ones who find it confusing are the ones who break the rules around vacations and their kids are sick and then right right and then they hit the 10th day because they left a day or two early for spring break and then they're shocked they got the letter yeah those are good examples Mr Alexander um the next one just shows the middle schools how how they're broken down uh and then the next one is elementary schools and it's a little the our pipe our slices of pie are a little bit bigger there they don't have the umpteen rules are reasons

why they get suspended um but you know I I would tell you a few years ago tobacco suspensions in the elementary school just didn't happen sexual misconduct in schools didn't happen in the elementary level and the amount of disruptive behavior if you see that at 78 that's a pretty good big big size number that our teachers and and honestly and it's not just one student when you're just when a student's disruptive in class it it's the other 25 26 kids in class that it disrupts and and the staff and the administrators that have to deal with that so we're going to be working with the Deans and the aps this year on dealing with that kind of behavior and see if we can come up with some ways to help with that expulsions you can

see last year compared to this year our explosions were high but but our alternatives to expulsions were also a little bit higher and and I you know I applaud the the Deans and APS and principals for looking at ways to keep kids in school and you know it's a lot of times you know we'll look at an opportunity to give a kid a chance but put the burden on them to to you know to sign a contract and and to agree to certain Behavior so they um so that we give them the opportunity and if they choose not to follow through with that then then at least we know we've given the opportunity this year I I think I think for the first time ever we had two expulsions at an elementary school um which

we I don't think I've ever done that before then the anonymous reports uh just for uh just to bring that up again we've had an anonymous reporting system for you know probably five or six years uh we still hear I didn't even know you had it we've put it in the handbooks we've put it in the the on the website uh Stacy and and Sam are going to make new posters for our schools to get it out there but um our our numbers are are probably still not too bad probably in line with with what we would expect I don't know that more publicity will get more reports but you know some of those you know some of the general tips they're honestly they're like hey is anybody really watching this you know so they're

not really necessarily a safety issue but sometimes I think people just want to know if we're really monitoring them and and check and spot check us so that's the last slide that I have um we're going to do a better job or we're going to work harder at getting that the word out that we have this Anonymous reporting system and we'll see if those numbers change next year as well thank you Dr Long any other questions for Dr Long thanks good job thanks all right there are no public comments this evening next up is the consent agenda do I have a motion president I move that we approve the consent agenda as presented thank you Mr Daniels do I have a second thank you Mrs counts we have a motion in a second all those

in favor signify by saying aye aye are those opposed motion passes 5-0 and I'm going to turn this over to Dr Taylor yeah thank you Mr pleased to uh tonight by our new assistant principal do you just approved for Middle School Central Audrey Jackson has joined us welcome Audrey and your husband's name and Kevin joined I met Kevin last night but I'd forgotten I apologize Audrey comes to us from Martinsville schools where she was a high school assistant principal most recently anything else to add family anything you want to know [Laughter] all that agree we clapped for you really hard yeah that's right should have approved her before the discipline report you know she didn't get up I know it's like like hurry up let's get to the next one put a job security there

yeah we actually did a trade Julie Lawson went down there and then yeah that's right awesome welcome well welcome anything else Dr Taylor thank you very much uh next up is action items 8.1 accept bid for sale of Apple equipment I might turn that over to Africa um I just uh I'll make the recommendation Nest forward approve and accept the bid for sale of Apple equipment and Dr Taylor provided with some additional information thank you on July 13th 2023 we open 12 bids with purchase for that Surplus Apple equipment after a thorough analysis of beds and reaching out for um neighboring schools excellent we received great recommendations and I'd like to recommend accepting the bid from from Limitless us um they provided the best and highest bid to purchase the equipment we have about 1900

iPad 1910 iPads 239 units of other Apple equipment various laptops and cell phones the total amount anticipated from this sale will result in one hundred and ninety thousand dollars 190 and nine thousand dollars sorry or nine thousand dollars on the proceeds from the sale will be used for future technology purchases we'll turn around and buy more iPads with them as the board knows we've done this frequently throughout the years where instead of keeping the device for our fourth year we will sell it and keep our kids and vices a little bit newer that way but still fit this into our um budget thank you so any questions you may have I've got a question Dr Taylor first I applaud the effort 190 000 coming in this is good to see stream of revenue from things

that we want to move from but I did notice that a couple of the items to be successful better is bidding on are down for a dollar or as there are others that bid as much as 200 for those yeah so those are really old iMacs and if you the iMac is an all-in-one unit right and so they're gonna not be able to use it but also get rid of the LCD screen but I guess that's my question my question is when I look down at vantage point they were going to give us 200 yeah we sold this in a lot large pickup at one given time and that's kind of the trade-off as we know we're going to lose some money on some items but really gain on that have we thought about maybe

breaking it up or we have unfortunately we've got some restrictions from the State Board of counts and how we declare Surplus and how we get rid of it and so to do it individually would require us to do an individual action item for each one of those and individual RFB and advertise it that way so we can't do it we can set we can't accept it in all our part or exactly and they would allow some eBay selling and we have considered to look at that but that comes with its own risk because if I see somebody bidding a dollar on something they probably don't want it no they're just going to take it to get everything else it just seems like a shame that we don't maximize I mean the rules are the rules

I understand but at the same time a dollar where somebody's and I don't even know if there's one of them or if there's a hundred of them uh so the numbers are at the top so they'll have like one unit oh well yeah they're it's very small that I'm wasting too much air time good questions I wish we did um you know I wish we lived in a world where we could offer these star students racing [Laughter] can I move to approvement do I have a second Mrs counts made the second oh that's in favor of accepting the bids in the Bible saying aye all those opposed motion passes five zero thank you all right uh uh next uh next up is announcements um July 22nd uh Saturday is fast track at Center Grove Middle

School North is ninth eleven right Dana's volunteering until noon yeah I think the volunteers have some extra cleanup okay so nine to eleven correct we have an executive session August 24th that executive session is going to begin at 4 pm uh the regular board meeting is scheduled for 7 pm um and due to multiple scheduling conflicts and the isba State School Board conference we're changing the September board meeting from September the 28th to September the 21st times are still 6 p.m for the executive session at 7 pm for the regular meeting and we will do a good to The Grove that evening as well following the board meeting in September I thought okay I think yeah that's good sorry yeah that that changes the exact sessions at five in September you're right thank you thank

you Rob hey I had to redeem myself all right um Mr Russell any board member reports this evening all donations I've started filling in the display cases that Dr Long gave us in the what I call my lobby but it's the lobby by the West gym and it's really going to look good one thing was a cheer outfit from 1955. oh wow as you can imagine the length of the skirt and other things it was just it was fun reading it we got several chords books it was actually Bill paddick's family so those those are trickling in and the unique things will be putting in those cases very cool Mrs counts Mr Robinson thank you I know we already recognized Joe and Katie but I just want to say publicly uh we're very blessed to

have both him as athletic directors and if you count them out the time of hours that I've always put in they're they're up there at the very top top and we did have a great year and then the other thing I wanted to recognize uh Mr Jackson there very excited you're there heard a lot of good things about you and it's a great building that only worked there 37 years so so I said it's a we're I'm thrilled to have you just briefly I know by the time we meet next time school started so let's hope we're off to a great start we're talking about great things got a wonderful administrators in this group we've got wonderful teachers here staff all across the board we need to do everything we can to work together this

year and I think we will so with all that being said let's get off to a good start and have a have a wonderful school year thank you Mr Daniels uh things are continuing to grasp progress with the Johnson County Redevelopment commission projects are continuing continually to be pitched to um the Redevelopment commission I think we'll begin to see some get underway along the I not have to correct myself and say the I-69 Corridor um I and as as the infrastructure is built and Road improvements are done I think more and more projects will become will be coming south and coming this direction so um Commissioners are doing a great job trying to attract some different types of projects down here that aren't all residential or or those types of things or apartments so um

not and not necessarily warehouses and logistical types of things either so I'm excited for some of the conversations we've been having can't share too many details yet because some of them are still in the infancy stage Dr arkanov um just looking forward to starting the school year we're we're getting really close now and just excited for that welcome Audrey we're excited to have you and it was a great night to celebrate again the successes of so many students and staff so I'm just looking forward to that and with that I'll turn it over to you school starts August 4th third sorry that to us August 3rd August 3rd all right that's not a date I I track very closely anymore August 3rd all right we're adjourned
