Welcome hot dogs to the February Community Schools of Frankfurt town hall. Today's town hall will be a district communication to parents regarding online registration and the CSF philosophy when it comes to virtual learning on weather closing days. Thank you for tuning in and taking time out of your day to listen to important information on both topics. My goal for this town hall today is to share two important pieces of information. one, the importance of parents, guardians submitting your child's registration prior to next school year, which is August 5, 2026, and the factors considered in delaying and closing school and the reasons why CSF has not utilized virtual learning days when so many other districts use these virtual days. If you are a current parent of a student in the Community Schools of Frankfurt, you know,

leading up to this school year, we implemented an online registration. In the past, we would only ask new families to uh register at the beginning of the year and we did a paper registration at that time. The downside to only new families registering is that we had a lot of incorrect data in our student management system because student information changes uh from addresses, phone numbers, emergency contracts, etc. It is imperative that all returning students get registered for classes every year. We also know that in this first year of implementation, we had some glitches and confusion about which link to use to register. With this stated, we have made adjustments to the system to make the process more simple and efficient for returning families as well as new families to the district. On March 2, we

will open up fall registration for returning families. We need every returning student to be registered to ensure we have correct information for each student. We realized during a recent security drill that we had a lot of students at one school who did not have emergency contacts listed due to families who did not register the returning students. As you can imagine, if we do not have the contacts listed, we can't release a child to someone who is not on that contact list. This is one very important reason we need every student registered each and every year. On March 2, Community Schools of Frankfurt parents, we ask you to take the time between March 2nd and the beginning of next school year, which is August 5th, to register your child. Registration will involve reviewing existing information, revising

addresses, phone numbers, contacts if needed, and filling out annual forms. This process will take less than 20 minutes per child. Accuracy with yearly registration allows for accurate student information, accurate student numbers to help with staffing, student safety during the school year, and the ability to communicate effectively with families. At this time, we're going to take a break and go to Eric Farley's Frankfurt fun facts. Welcome back to another episode of Farley's Fun facts. Today I'd like to talk about our community prek program here at the Community Schools of Frankfurt. Currently we have four community prek classrooms. They operate from Monday through Friday and they are full day programs. Something very unique about our community prek classrooms here at the community schools of Frankfurt is that they are operated by licensed full-time teachers as well as

a full-time pair professional. Our classrooms do not exceed 22 students here at the community schools of Frankfurt. It's a great opportunity for anybody who turns four years old prior to August to come and be a part of a program that we have seen great results in. And what I mean by great results is that 98% of our kids who attend our pre-K program pass what's called the kindergart kindergarten readiness assessment. Meaning they have knowledge of letter sounds, names, as well as basic mathematics and other skill sets that are offered through what's called the prek foundations which are essentially are the state standards. Our prek program is topnotch and something we want to continue continue to see here at the community schools of Frankfurt. If you're interested in registering your child, please make sure you contact

Blue Ridge Primary or Sunrest Elementary. That's all for Farley's fun facts. Have a great day, hot dogs. Welcome back, hot dogs. I hope you enjoyed that Farley Frankfurt fun fact. Winter weather has been in hibernation for the past eight years. It has been six school years since we had three or more school cancellations due to weather. In 2018 2019, we canceled four times. Before 2018-19, it was 20145 that experienced five closings due to weather. Three of the five were in January. And before that, it was the 20134 school year with eight closings and seven of the eight of those closings were in January. Each year, the board approves a school calendar two years out with four built-in snow days. The calendar committee is meeting currently to create the 2027 2028 calendar. These days are built

into January. These makeup days, one is in January, two in February, and one in April. If we have more than four weather days, the days will be added to the end of the year, as in the case this year. if we have any more. This of course impacts graduation. But most of all, these days added take place after all of the end of the year summit of state testing and instruction timeline for the school year. We will explore adding some more makeup days in in March or April. Some have asked why don't we offer virtual learning like a lot of other schools in Indiana. Well, if we learned one thing from three months students were not in person due to the corona virus pandemic, there was a mass amount of learning loss that we are

now just coming out of five years later. Virtual instruction at its best pales in effectiveness to live in-person instruction. Virtual learning especially in the elementary school lack the effectiveness to provide academic growth and also it requires a parent to be home to assist. We know that this is difficult for families in most situations with virtual learning days. Breakfast and lunch do not get served and are not provided by the school. Some staff such as bus drivers, pair professionals, they lose out on days of work or multiple days of work depending on the type of virtual learning that occurs. The final burning question that you may have is how in the world do you decide on not closing, closing, or delaying school? Well, this decision starts with a partnership that I have with uh the other

area superintendent in Clinton County along with two superintendents in Carol County. When a weather event is forecasted, we all begin sharing thoughts and opinions about the impending forecast or the current conditions and the impact on the school delay or closing. For cold temperatures, I use the National Weather Windshield Chart. This chart enables me to to decide uh how cold is too cold for snow and ice. It depends on reports from the county highway, the Indiana Department of Transportation, Clinton and Carroll County Superintendent, Frankfurt Police Department, police chief, county travel status, and school parking lot status. For fog, it depends on the amount of vis visibility at the time and the staff and students arriving and driving at school. All decisions made regarding school closing and delays are made with the safety of students and staff

in mind. I hope all of you spread the word to ensure that we get all community schools of Frankfurt students registered for school prior to August 5th. I hope you also have a better understanding about all of the nuances that are considered when making decisions about school closings or delays. All decisions made are considered with the safety of students and staff in mind. Signing off from the hot dog town hall at Frankfurt High School.
