Welcome hot dogs to the October Community Schools of Frankfurt Town Hall. The superintendent town hall focuses on programs and people who are moving the academic, behavioral, staff, student retention, athletic, and facilities needle. This month, I wanted to have and invite Frankfurt High School junior volleyball player Lily Rockhold. According to a recent Journal and Courier article, top level performances have become a nightly routine for Rockhold, who has led Frankfurt to 11 consecutive wins to conclude the regular season. Rockhold had 23 kills last Saturday and a five set win over CulverMies and 20 kills against Twin Lakes last Thursday. Rockhold has pounded 10 kills or more over the last eight games, including the three matches of 20 kills or more in that span. Lily is currently sitting at 990 kills. I wanted to bring Lily to town
hall because she's moving the athletic needle along with her volleyball team and they've had a great regular season and hopefully a very successful run in the state tournament. So, Lily, welcome to Town Hall today. Hi. >> I would like to uh ask him my first question before we get into volleyball. I know there are so many things that you do. You probably have to limit what you tell me today, but can you just let me know what types of activities and programs you're involved in both at Frankfurt High School and if there's some outside of Frankfurt High School? Um, well, I'm a part of DECA and I do NHS and student council and SAD and um, I'm a part of like my church's youth group. But those are just some of them. >> And I
also know cuz your grandpa came to a ro Clinton County Rotary Club meeting not too long ago and he shared how he feeds hummingbirds out of his hands and I was watching his presentation. I saw a young Lily Rockold holding a feeder. So, kind of tell me a little bit about feeding hummingbirds. >> Yeah, it's definitely a patience game. You kind of just have to sit there and let them come to you and even then they'll come around and they'll fly around your head, but then they won't ever land on you except for like the second or third time you do it. >> Wow, that's that's quite impressive. Lily, can you tell our viewers what your role is on the high school volleyball team? >> Um, so I'm the out I'm one of the outside
hitters, but I play all the way around for our team. So, that's just kind of a fun part of it. and an outside hitter you are. Uh what personal accomplishments are you most proud of during your three years here at Frankfurt High School? >> Uh probably my first team all conference last year. That was a big thing for me as a sophomore. >> And then uh the JNC first team all like all big school. That was fun. And then I definitely think my thousand kills which I'm hopefully going to get tonight or later this week is just going to be a good big accomplishment of hey I actually made it in the volleyball world. I watched you last week against uh Twin Lakes and you you fortunately have a great setter and Jaylen Smith, right?
And I'm sure you'll talk about her in a little bit and the rest of your teammates, but I mean, you just go up and you know that especially if you're down or you're you're just a little like angry. I mean, you're pounding on the other side and I would not want to be on the other side of the net of you when you're pounding the ball. So, you're it's quite impressive to watch. >> Yeah. >> So, why volleyball? and and and after you answer that, how often do you have to train to be as good as you are? >> Uh I definitely think I picked volleyball because my sister played when she was in high school and I just got to see them and then the team culture that she had. I was like that's
something I want to be a part of. And then for training, I'm kind of my parents call me a gym rat. I'm always in the gym whether it's lifting weights, whether it's getting extra reps after practice. It's just that like little bit of extra that I know will help my team and then help myself in the end. the small things consistently make a huge difference. So, and you can tell that with you. Do any of the other players on the volleyball team, are they in the gym as much as you or do training outside of the season as much as you do? >> Yeah, I think we all kind of hold each other accountable and we're always willing to help each other. We went on volleyball runs when we didn't have volleyball practice kind of
as like a team thing. And I think we all are just committed to the same level of wanting to be the best we can be. >> Committed to excellence, right? >> Well, we're gonna take a little commercial break and go to Hope you enjoy this segment of Eric Farley and Farley's Frankfurt fun facts. >> Welcome back to another episode of Farley's Frankfurt fun facts. Today I'd like to talk about a historical figure from Frankfurt. His name is Ernest Cutler Price. He was an American boxer who held the light heavyweight championship of the world. He was born in Frankfurt in 1891. His father ran a grocery in town, but sadly passed away when Price was young. Price himself worked at a farm stable where he helped house a famous racehorse named Sydney Lou Dylan. Price began
fighting in 1908 at the age of 17. He was very nervous during his first fight. So nervous, in fact, that the announcer misunderstood Price's boxing name. Price provided the announcer the name Sydney Dylan after the horse he cared for. However, the announcer heard Jack Dylan. Price being nervous didn't correct him and therefore Jack Dylan became his boxing name. Jack became known as Jack the Giant killer for his ability to handle the most dangerous heavyweights of his era. He was also referred to as the Hooser Bearcat once he began fighting at the national level. He was a mere 5'7 in tall, had an official record of 95 wins, 65 by knockout, and eight losses. Ring Magazine founder Nat Fleshner ranked Dylan as a number three light heavyweight of all time. The International Boxing Research Organization rates
Dylan as the 16th best light heavyweight ever. Dylan was inducted into the Ring Magazine Hall of Fame in 1959 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995. Dylan retired from boxing in 1923 and passed away at the age of 51 in 1942. I want to thank Lou and Scott Freeman for some of these facts. That's it for another episode of Farley's Fun Facts. Have a great day, hot dogs. Welcome back, hot dogs. I hope you enjoyed that Farley Frankfurt fun fact. Today I am talking to Lily Rockhold, Frankfurt High School volleyball super spiker or outside hitter who uh has had a great season both her and her volleyball team of moving the athletic needle and it's been great to talk to you today, Lily. What factors have contributed to your winning season? >> Um
I definitely think our team culture plays a big part in how we've played the season. We saw what success was like last year and though we did graduate some seniors, I feel like everyone who's came up has understood what kind of culture we wanted to have and it's kind of just carried us through the season. >> Is there anything that you'd like to share about you've mentioned them your teammates that you have not already shared? >> I mean I think my teammates are the reason I play as well as I do. I feed off of their energy. I have a great setter, a great libero, um my best friend who's my other outside, and I think everyone on the team, we're all friends. We're always wanting to do whatever is going to help the team
the best. And I think that's what makes our team like so good, especially with my teammates. >> I love it. And the lobero is that one that wears the funky different outfit. I Right. Okay. >> Yeah. She wears a different jersey. >> They didn't have liberos when I was uh in in high school with volleyball, so that's been a little bit to get used to. So, thank you for sharing that. You've talked about culture, talked about just your team as a tight-knit group, and uh typically you see that when you see winning programs. >> Uh is there anything that you want to share about your coaches or your family that you haven't shared at this time? >> Um I think my coaches have definitely pushed us to be the best we can be. Um if
we want to stay in the gym and get extra reps, they're always willing to stay and help. Um, and they just kind of set the standard at the beginning and the teams carried it with us. And then my parents and my grandparents and like my family have always been super supportive and if I wanted to get some extra reps, they would always go out in the yard and hit balls with me and stuff like that to keep me like active and ready for the next game. >> Great to hear. Lily, what do you think about your sectional draw that's next Tuesday, right, with Burbuff? And you played Burbuff last year, so you've had an opportunity to play against them already. per buff out of Indianapolis. >> Mhm. Um, I think we're both definitely different teams
than we were last year and I think that's going to make the game really, really fun and competitive. I'm super hopeful and looking forward to our outlook because I think this is a game we can really win. We're going to have a great team discussion and we're going to go in, we're going to play the best game we can. Lily, uh, outside of volleyball, what are your plans? Uh, in post-secary in the community schools of Frankfurt, we have our pillars of excellence and pillar of postsecondary. Expectation is one. We want all of the people who graduate from Frankfurt High School to have a plan when they graduate. I'm sure you have a plan. >> Um, I do. I'm planning to double major in college and study cyber security and marketing. >> Wow. Okay. So, are
you taking the info uh tech um class that's held at IvyTech? You taking that? >> Yes, except I'm taking it at the school. So, I stay in the building, but I take it through IvyTech. >> Wow, that's impressive. You're going to be successful and hopefully someday Mr. Ce will invite you back to be on tradition of excellence. So, but I am so uh excited that you're here today to talk to me. I appreciate that. Hot Dog Nation. Uh, I hope you enjoyed learning about how the Frankfurt High School volleyball team is moving the athletic ne needle for hot dog students. Thank you, Lily, for sharing with the viewers the commitment you have made along with your teammates to train and attain excellence on the volleyball court. Good luck to you, your team, Coach Rush, the
rest of the season, and hopefully you have a deep run into the state tournament this year. And more importantly, I just want to thank you for exemplifying what it means to be a student athlete, and you are the the exemplar of that. So, I thank you for that.
