school corporation board of education meeting in our brand new administrative offices. Hopefully everybody's had a chance to tour the facility. If not, I'm sure we'll be able to accommodate that after the meeting. Uh at this time, roll call. With the exception of Monty Thompson, all board members and administrators are present. Uh and with that, I will ask that you join me in the pledge of allegiance. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America to the stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. All right. Thank you. First item of business is spotlight on excellence. We have student art. All right, students. When I call your name, if you will come up and stand by your artwork, that would be wonderful. Veronica Dominguez. My neighborhood. [Music] Josephine, you

make your mom so proud. Laney right is playing softball. Hopefully winning. That is everybody's here. Anybody make it in the didn't call. Okay. Wonderful. Thank you guys. Make sure if you haven't got a picture, we'll give you a little bit of time after we get through this. So, you go out and get a quick picture and then you can probably head out. You don't need to stay. Next part of our spotlight on excellence. You guys may have a seat. Mr. Hutton Haw Hutton has served a very important role this year. So we will not say what that role is but Alexander the mascot has people who bring him to life and sometimes those people get recognized. So Hut and Haw thank you for your service to Crawfordville school that cookie now. Thank you. Will you

stand there and actually open that for us? Yes. I wish I addressed better. I'm sorry. You're an active student. Not as much as your mom's wish. You want to open that right there. Oh, okay. You got to show everyone. All right. Let's see. [Music] I I already [Music] Okay. Okay. Now that's that. Oh, I'm going to put this in front of my desk. Very nice. I got I [Music] got for a second. I love this great We'll get you later. Do you have a book for you to sign? Yes. Okay. Like a yearbook doesn't sense. Yes. So, thank you for your service. All right. Alexander is either five something or like six foot. No in between there. Okay. Well, unless anybody objects, if you'd like to grab a quick photo with your student's art and

then leave, you're more than welcome to do that. But you're also welcome to stay on your way out. More cookies. [Music] I love you. So pretty. This robot's so pretty. I wish I made one. When we go home, um, can you teach me how to make a robot just like yours? [Music] All the time. I won't. Yeah, you can't. Yeah. [Music] Messages. [Music] Yeah. [Music] All right, let's move on. The next item is approved meeting minutes, construction accounts payable, various other things and surplus items. Looks we have looks like we have some history books that are history. [Music] Any additions or corrections? Hearing none, I would entertain a motion to approve. I move approval. Second. All in favor. U. Under old business, we have uh second reading for policy 4420, law enforcement relations. Yeah. So

this is a second uh reading here. So um no changes from the first reading. Um this is an essential policy and again mainly outlines um the relationship with with law enforcement but also um making sure we are within uh federal and and state constitution laws um and also working with uh with parents um through these kinds of situations as well. So, uh, take any questions, but otherwise, I would recommend approval of policy 4420. Any discussion? Is there a motion? I move to approve policy 4420, Mr. Grant. Second. All in favor? I. Right. Moving on to new business. The first item is consider the 2526 school calendar revision. Good evening everyone. Um, motocross across the nation is coming to town October 2nd through the 5th. Um, the world. Yeah. Yeah. And it' be exciting. Um, we

will have great visitors to our community on Friday the 3. They are planning an international parade. um and would significantly affect our bus routes. So we were looking at options and I will say give complete credit to Dr. Bkart who came up with a very simple thing is that on the 10th we were supposed to have a professional development day. So we moved that professional development day to the 3 um and that would at least have our students out. we would not have busing going and our staff that wants to get out to the parade would be able to do so as adults. So, I recommend that the board approved the adjustment um in order for us to adjust to the exciting event coming to our communities and given the fact we can almost see

the track good thing. So, I move approval of the calendar change. Second. All in favor? I. Okay, moving along. The next item is consider selection of food service management companies. Andrew, you have Yes. So, we have our bid opening for our food service management company contract on May 1st. Uh here in the building, we did have five total bids that came in. Organic life, Genuine, OPA, Airmark, and Chartwells. Uh selection committee then has met over the last two weeks to review the bids that we received. After this review, the selection committee led by Amber Reed does recommend that the board approve Charwells as a renewal for our food service management company for the schools. All right. Is there any discussion? Yeah, they did. Fantastic job. My vote was influenced. Yes. All right. Is there a

motion? I move to approve the food service management company corporation. I second. All in favor? I. Okay. Uh the next item is consider property and casualty insurance. Yes. So we began our RFQ process in midappril to interview prospective insurance brokers for our property and casualty insurance. We did have three agents that we interviewed with. MJ Insurance, McGawan Insurance Group, and RT Insurance. After those interviews and the review by the selection committee, we do recommend that the board approve a renewal with RT insurance. Note that give credit to Andrew and the staff for putting together a really good RFQ, attracting really qualified proposers. The the three that were interviewed were were very impressive, but um William insurance does a great job in fully support the recommendation. I'll second. All right. All in favor? I Okay, thank

you. And yes, next is consider resolution for transfer of funds. Can we skip back up to the stone's resolution first? Switch pages here. Sorry. That's okay. Consider a resolution for scholarship awards. Yes. So, this is a standard annual resolution that we have to do for our corporation. Uh, this resolution just gives the business office permission to make payments to the scholarship recipients school of choice on their behalf. And so, I would recommend that the board approve this resolution. Any discussion? Second. All in favor? I move on to the transfer funds. Yes. So, normally you only see this transfer at the end of the calendar year. Uh we've decided to make this a semianual event. So, we would recommend that the board approve this resolution to make a transfer of 100 $850,000 from the education fund

to the rainy day fund. Any discussion? I move approval of this resolution. Second. All in favor? I Next is consider the K5 reading curriculum. Yeah. So, um following the review of uh the Indiana Department's high quality curriculum materials list, um committee reviewed and discussed uh both CPLA and Open Court um as the the two front runners for our reading curriculum. Um so, a committee of teachers, coaches, uh Dr. Riker, myself and uh Monty Thompson met and reviewed those and um the coaches took that a little bit further. Um we used the rubric that is in your packet there too to to guide that that conversation and selection and uh we believe that both CLA and open court can best support our students. And um so I would recommend approval of adoption of CLA for grades

K through three and then open court for grades four through five. questions of discussion. I move approval of the K5. Second. All in favor? I. Okay. Moving on to personnel. Is that correct? All right. Uh first retirements, we have three retirements. Uh between the three of them, we have 94 years of Crawford's old Community School Corporation. Um Brian Miller who long time was kind of our alternative school teacher um this last year went over and helped with the virtual school electives. Um but Ryan is ready after 31 years with Crawford Community Schools to um you know head off to do some things he enjoys. Um Stephanie Tuthero um been a longtime consumer science teacher, facts teacher, had retired for a brief moment a couple years ago and uh you know rescended that retirement to come

back and um she now thinks it is the time. So after 35 years with schools and Kathy Tobias, another person who has kind of retired before um coming back who's been over the adult ed program. So three people who have given great years of service to the schools and appreciation for their service, I recommend the board approve their retirements. Is there a motion? I'll make a motion to approve retirement. Second. All in favor? resations. Yeah. So, uh we have a variety here of teachers and work based learners and of positions through for resignation. So, I recommend the board approve resignations one through eight. Sorry, Mr. President. So, move second. All in favor? I All right. few recommendations for these positions. So, uh I think almost every month we hire somebody for one of our preschool

positions. So, I recommend Lindsay Reigns as a preschool aid at POS. Um she has already started. Also recommend Michelle Jet as a Wilson administrative assistant. Um our previous Wilson administrative assistant actually moved over to be the ABA admin assistant. Um and then Caitlyn St. Host teachers aid recommend that the board approve all three hybrids. I move approval. Second. All in favor? I change position. Change of position. Again, this doesn't require any action by Megan Wilson. Move from admin assistant at Wilson to admin assistant for APA. That transition has gone very well. All right, moving on to business manager. Yes. So, just a couple items tonight. Uh, we had a myself and Tara Walters attended the Indiana Association of School Business Officials conference. Rex joined us one Thursday night for the awards dinner. Uh, we had

a pretty good time up there. A lot of information to go through and just see how we can use that to improve our school corporation and our business operations here. Um, and then just and for your information point, we have started the process of purchasing two new buses for the corporation. uh we used the procurement process from the central Indiana education service center that we are a member of um for their procurement. So we don't require any board action on this. Uh so after review of the information that we received from CISC uh we've made the decision to purchase a 15 passenger lift bus for 130,000 and 84 passenger bus for 224,000 or 220,000 from Kurland bus sales and that is your business manager report right thank you Dr. Yeah. So, um just within the

last uh week, Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Hos both reported that they are fully reviewed uh for final approval by Dr. Marzano for level two certification and effective teaching. So, that is exciting as they get to that final finish line um with Dr. Marzano's final stamp of approval. Hose Hoover and CHS are also very close um as well and we'll be crossing that finish line soon as well. So exciting um to achieve that and I know Dr. Reker and I are proud of the commitment to excellence from both our principles um and teachers as they they've worked towards these certifications. Um I learn testing is complete. Data has started to come in. We've had some early analysis and discussion for future planning. Um but definitely some appreciation to our principles and teachers in grades three through

eight. It's very stressful, busy, um disrupted at times with the testing schedules. Um so um it is it is always a tough stretch there completing standardized testing and appreciation to our principles and teachers working working through that time of year. Uh reading selection committee. So um with that uh approval tonight so do just want to to give appreciation to that committee for their time and efforts in reviewing the reading uh curriculum. So Aaron Gillan, Stephanie Braum at Book Connect, Britney Reef, Morgan Thompson, Suzanne Burgie, Adam Wal Church and Hall, Marcy Galowski. Um it is a lot of materials to go through and and a lot um of information to digest and um it's an important thing in in what we do and what we'll be using for our reading program. And I appreciate Man's involvement

as well and um look forward to uh to bringing that into what we're doing with the kids. So they are a big part of that. Uh Pioneer Day recently took place at Hoover. Um so was over there for a little bit on Friday and uh so just some of the activities there. So saw the students enjoying candle making, some woodworking things, medical care, um cooking um and other activities. Um Mrs. Hler put me to work in her room making some butter for some homemade biscuits as well. So, um, I said my own son came home and mentioned the medical care kit itself and we have one of, he says four of those. I believe it's in the lane place. So, the lane house. So, um, it's definitely thank you to the teachers and community members

who've led those activities as lots of smiles and hands-on things going on which was very good. So, with that, that is your assistant superintendent report. Thank you, Dr. Bokart. Dr. All right. Excellent. Um, thank you to Stephanie for all of her efforts to help us get settled in to this admin building and for most of the setup for this event. Thank you Chartwells for putting on a great show. Um, yeah, that's a lot of food. It's beautiful. Great colors. Um, you know, one of the reasons we first went with Chartwells was because when we was the color selection of the palette, not just good old hooer, different shade of brown. So, it is wonderful. Thank you to the admin team. You know, we've had a nice transition moving in here. Everybody's pitched in, helped out,

um, you know, trying to set up this room in different ways and get everything ready. So, it's been excellent. Um, you know, Dr. goart tonight. Got all these things going on, but you can see he's working with, you know, the folks from CSO and Kettle as we're still making adjustments and things that need to be repaired. So, it's kind of construction projects are interesting. They're wonderful. Um, you know, you reach substantial completion and you still have months to go. So, um, we're getting there. So, hopefully you don't see many of the the little blemishes or things that need to be fixed, but you see the beautiful building that we do have here. Um, Andrew, I know that we've talked about that he got the early impact award, but it was very nice to get to

see him at the ISO um, state conference last week and to see Dr. Bolan give him his award. So, you know, just like today, there's a lot of connections. So, it is wonderful to see the leadership of Crawfordville schools stretches out throughout the state. Um, wonderful to see Dr. Steele and Dr. bowling here today. You know, a little over 20 years ago, Dr. Steel hired me and so that meant a lot. Thank you guys for this opportunity. Um, you know, celebrating some of the care, excellence in caring that we have. A host started their special person day, kind of a grandparent day, but opening up so that kids could find their special person. And so, a handful of us from this office were able to go over and serve as a special person. So include

Monty was there. Um so outstanding. Um the A team at the middle school, they did a a staff dinner for the support staff. Thought that was just something I don't know that I had heard of that one before. So that was outstanding and caring. Um Jack Taylor's retirement, you know, 13 years as our SRO. Um saw Jack get choked up multiple times and just because he loves this job. Um, we have hired him to be a substitute teacher. So, we we will see uh what it goes for when you don't have how much better he can move around when he doesn't have to wear all that gear. Um, celebrations of excellence. Um, Dr. Bokart and I were able to go witness the National Honor Society induction at the high school. Outstanding. Um, the Seville Singers

brought home a gold with distinction and a gold in Yeah, sorry. in isma there we go contest recently sorry and last night attended the secondary band concert um outstanding now I'm not going to say that I have the musician's ear but many parents just came up and just talked about how much we're improved and it's going so um and Mr. Bartlet was kind enough to go ahead and tell them that we are hiring a full-time band replacement, but we are doing interviews and we are looking at those texts. Uh reminders, sign diplomas if you have not. CHS graduation is May 30th at 700 p.m. Uh show up a little early and we'll meet in the uh office. And then ABA graduation is May 31st at 11:00 a.m. at CHS. That is your superintendence report. All

right. Any other [Music] business? None of board member communication. My opinion, substance always trumps our form. So the the substance of our of everything that our outstanding school leadership does all the time has always been there. But now to have the form of a proper headquarters We have a world class headquarters for a world class school corporation. So thanks and thanks for all the hard work for seeing this through and being here today. Thank you. Uh I would also point out that we did attend the school board association u last week in West Lafayette and received distinguish. It was there. Yeah. Distinguished governance award and contract. All right. That that was that was my comment. Any others? Any other comments? Hearing none. I would entertain to so move. Second. All in favor? Yes. [Music]
