certain amount so the school corporation is required to hold two public hearings um it's preliminary uh determination to issue the bonds this would be the first of those two uh hearings notice of both public hearings was published in the joural review in the paper on May 30th um of 2024 and was also sent uh via first class mail to the Montgomery County Clerk and any organizations that requested such notice provided by the Indiana code 6-11 - 20-31 the proofs of the publication of the notice of the hearings are in in your packet as well so um at this hearing um all interested people can give testimony Andor ask questions um concerning the renovations and improvements to school facilities including deferred maintenance HVAC Improvements roofing improvements site improvements and the purchases of the purchase of buses

um hereby known as the project and uh the purpose uh there's two purposes to the hearing one to inform the public as the proposed project and two to allow all interested parties taxpayers and patrons of the school corporation to voice their opinions as to the project and ask any questions which any questions will be answered U by the administration so um moving next into in your packet you do have um a three-year Capital project plan uh that outlines not this one electronic under the public hearing copy of three plan um so you'll see in there um the the planned work out the buses um which we did I'll speak a little bit more on later on some of the specifics of the the grant that we received but um that you do see a a

credit there um back from from being awarded the the Federal grant there for purchase of of two electric buses uh with that there is some um the charging installation some electric work that we'll have to do to be able to handle the Chargers uh we have uh some work planned for uh the baseball uh field and some drainage issues that are occurring out there which has resulted in some some canceled and moved games um so that piece is there playground um at Wilson and at hose um and then some some site improvements with uh Hoover with some parking lot U their one ENT um some Limestone work that needs done sidewalk um things there as well and then in year two you see there um the CHS uh field Turf um has how long has

it lasted oh [Music] going into it 12th year I think yeah so um tennis courts we've got some cracking that if we don't take care of those we'll become significant issues with the freezing and th and things so we got some some cracks that are widening um and again Park parking lot things and and we've talked about CMS and the new building there but um it is hard to believe there's some things coming around um so that that are going to be needing uh to to get some maintenance so looking at at carpet replacement in those rooms and uh it is a lot of use um and uh also looking at uh the entry at the middle school as well the vegle is there um but once you are hand the office it is open

um then to the building so looking at doing some things there to to add some security to the office that at the middle school um timeline of this would would run through 20 May of 2027 so when you look at that that third year outpa we're looking at a three-year plan um at that point we would be um looking at other funding whe that's under the bond or operations um but at that point so that's more our planning versus what we be going uh towards the money with this with this ge Bond thank we've talked about this over and over that we're in this situation because of our low operation funds um our operation funds are based on our assess value we have one of the lower assess values per student in the state which

means that you know for our six to7 million operation fund that we need you know our Levy only brings in about 3 six million so we have to move funds from the education fund to cover those needs and which then has meant a lot of these things like parking lots and stuff haven't been done um and so this is a way to kind of take care of deferred maintenance and to not have to take more out of the education fund and we appreciate you know we worked with ice Millers our bond counsel and Banker Tilly our financial adviser and the best the good part about this is is we are in a situation where we can actually do these projects and continue to allow our tax rate to slowly come down um and work through

that so that's in your packet also that kind of shows that we can actually do this and bring down the tax rate so because they are able to you know work things out so that is good so we talked about it before but I think problems that we face in the school corporation is where the boundary lines are um not an easy not an easy fix there but once you cross the railroad tracks on the North side that's North Montgomery 150 is South Mar to the [Music] South so yeah we're kind of landlocked but uh it's the way it is so whose genius idea was that back in the day to have a really small comp Corporation and two school buses two school buses all we had walk school that is one thing that's in

here is this is our way to purchase buses because the way that we had been purchasing buses is not so even with the significant Grant we still coming along so and we were driving buses for 15 years where most people trade them in after 10 so one question you mentioned that we're going to have to be up the electric for the buses will we be able to meter that for those buses separately I mean it's going to pass through the main meter but I'd like to know are we spending $110,000 a year on electricity for buses or was it 2,000 or 4,000 I don't know if that's you know so we doable we met with John um Douglas just this past week and um and he he did give us some some numbers and based

off of the the charger we would be looking at getting um and and the battery that would be coming in the buses um the projection is $380 a month uh for one bus so we got two buses times two um so um when you look at what we're spending in fuel it is a it is a significant stat um so I just like to be able to document that we are looking at with CLP doing the separate meter for this with the installation involves a whole new panel separate from the rest of the building and transportation which would allow for some of those things to yeah that will that be capable of expansion we think if we do the separate panel it will set us up better um I there could be a time depending

on where the electric stuff goes that we still may have to to do something but but doing it that way does s a little bit better at least in the thene term for some additional buses I just think you know more and more going that way that I like to be able to say yes document we save this much fu time because we'll be able to handle four right away with the charger that we're looking at is just two right so one charger but it's two ports um and initial that we had from CL andp is that we could handle up to four before we would need to be able to do something different so will be first in area to have we'll be the first ones in Indiana to have the stnos D style

bus [Music] smile we heard from him in very quickly so good anything else we call for any public input which we kind light on the public so comments doesn't even live in the district she can't [Music] all right then I will at this time close the public hearing um moving on to Personnel all right uh retirement Dave Whitehead so been maintaining the high school my entire career so um yeah know he some of the the projects that we've done recently like with controls and and some of the Bell things that as we were doing projects at the high school we were like well we kind of need to do this because Dave's the only person that knows how this works or knows how this works and um so he's been excellent he has coached um

he just has been phenomenal of taking care of Crawford zille high school and has been an amazing maintenance man and coach and just member of the CHS staff so do recommend the board approve they retir all in [Music] favor next section we got resignations so B there so I would recommend the board approve um all resignations and section B of personnel I Mo approval all in favor and hiring so auy Fields will be a h elementary teacher um Jennifer Raider um comes to us from damil area so excited to be a third grade teacher Jessica pel would be a lead preschool instructor Gabby Dominguez Wilson Child Care Aid Morgan BS Wilson developmental preschool a three different mey Melton is helping us for summer school as an aid so she works at um summer school in

the morning and then comes over here and works out of our office that is Mr Milton's daughter yes and Eden pile is a teacher at Nicholson North Montgomery l so and Paige Palmer and Nicholson media specialist so um we had kind of gone away from having media specialists in the buildings um I would like to try to bring them back I think that um you know the these individuals who are media Specialists have just a greater sense and a greater training right they have them the the tech and the library um knowledge and you know want people in our our libraries who can help kids pick out books and then also help them through the world of um you know media so I think it's important that I think when you guys that were involved

in the reorganization that was part of your commitment was that we have related arts teachers that were licensed so so I recommend all the hirings and see do we know where Eden she sat in her third grade not sure yet I believe it is second but she's a new graduate yes so yes Aubrey and Eden are both fresh out of college so [Music] and I move approval of these all in favor okay moving on uh consider decision to cancel teacher contract based on production Force yeah I hope never have to do this in my career but um with yeah so this reduction in force removes the Middle School Alternative Program teaching position and Adam Simmons um Adam is going to go to the youth Service Bureau he's been hired by the you service buau to

run their middle school Alternative Program um so we were able to find him a home but um Esser funds had created a position that moved Cindy Pierce out of the alternative program um and then Adam was hired in to cover that um with a the Esser funds going away and then with us with the alternative program at you service be and with the Virtual Academy we no longer need that position and there just wasn't the right home for Adam in his license situation so I think he is working on his business license um he's still going to continue to coach with us and hopefully there will be a day where we have him back but he will he'll be a great employee for the Youth Service Bureau and and his alternative background is perfect for

that so I do recommend the board um except the approved the cancellation the teacher contract based on reduction and force is Cindy back in her original classroom no she is not in the alternative classroom so she actually will go to a science okay yeah so we will not have the in-house alternative program after Middle [Music] School second all in favor all right I'll um so just a couple of things to note debt collection uh with our efforts these last 6 months we have been able to collect about 25 to 30% of the debt that we did send to our collections Partners um the current debts that are still there uh we'll continue in the collections process hoping that we can still collect from those and then um this during the summer months we'll review our

negative lunch balances for inactive students those that have graduated or transferred out and we'll add those to the collections agencies um by August uh grants we're starting our big push right now for federal grants in terms of writing getting the new ones going uh we're currently still waiting for the Department of Education to give us our allocations uh for all of those grants for the next school year um then it also starting budget season for the 2025 calendar year um starting with pre-budget documents start on those today uh they do by the end of the month and then we'll be in full swing getting our next calendar year DG dgf budget season going um well it'll will involve two meetings this fall to get it all approved and have hearings and then a lot more

information to come as we get it my apologies I okay I've been out I've been out the last couple months so my apology all right okay um so we talked about a little bit but yeah Transportation uh world it was exciting to to hear that we had then uh awarded the the grant for um the electric buses it is for two units um so not being a prioritized um District we don't get the full amount it's still a significant amount so um 200,000 per uh bus so we were awarded 400,000 so we're currently working through um next steps of of planning with line electric on on what that will be so we met um actually just yesterday afternoon via Zoom talked through some of the um charging things um with them and and they are

working through some some final pricing uh points as well so they do wait until the grant is awarded and they know what's what's being worked there and what districts have and and then they do work um with the price points from there so I will say they have been really really good to work with from that aspect is they're they're still looking to provide some some further discounts in the pricing yet now that they know where we stand with the U the the grant so um in in your packet actually in the in the hearing um if you were curious what we were getting the lion D is in there um so luckily for us if the colors come true on what's on there they planned all their Landy buses on blue with their blue

bumper and and their blue rims and the blue letter D but no um but yes it it is they are um we would be the first with um with the you the the terms losing me but yeah flat front that works better in the city because it can turn you don't have that so you know um that was the only thing that like when we started talking to electric buses our drivers we went and looked at yeah some of them but they didn't want that nose um hanging out they like The Pusher we already have Pusher bus is engines in the back but it's easier to turn in the city yeah so so it's exciting so there'll be more information to come as as that kind of keeps mve moving along so um and their

plant is in Juliet Illinois so about three hours yeah antip uh not exact um I would say best case scenario was somewhere of 25 but probably more likely later of of 2025 so he did say they are coming off the line though the line be so that is good to hear that they are they are pushing them out uh admin building progress uh Foundation walls are complete still working on uh back filling but that should be finished up soon um tomorrow this yeah this Friday it's tomorrow um they they'll be moving to Plumbing underground within the building um and then uh some electrical underground uh this coming Monday so gas water and power utility borings are complete and then SE tie-in will um also be be worked on uh next week so um lot utility

uh work work occurring and then they are hoping late next week to uh be for in the slab so um then from there can start to see some walls go up so uh preschool updates uh so Wilson Construction coming along with our expansion plans for next year so floors and rooms that had not yet received new carpet um is is coming along and and the gym flooring and then a lot of work in the uh infant toddler room uh Gary Eisenberg working on the um the wall in there and so that wall is up with splitting that that room and um electrical work is is moving along um in there uh as well so that should be finished by June 30th um and then we do have some further electrical upgrades occurring there once that

is complete um that work will be done first uh because we will have to shut the building down uh to get some of that electrical work done once the construction is taken care of and then uh playground equipment for both Wilson and hose um so with the additional preschool classes that hose looking at the preschool equipment uh there and um and then with the toddler toddler uh playground there at uh Wilson so that be um exciting additions for uh for those for hose and and for Wilson with uh with those pieces are those additional hose classrooms are they four-year-old classrooms or are they are 1 three and 14 or right now both will be fours both will be fours yes and um that way yeah a little better for that environment yeah I think um

and the space and the toilets and yeah so just just curious it didn't occur to me until we three is that three to four or is that two to Fours that's that's good that's great to have that many kids so we can service um curriculum instruction assessment we had professional development with some administrators counselors teachers for PBIS uh positive behavior intervention interventions and supports uh this was led by Tiffany uh creger with encompassing education um they LED our countywide initiative in 2016 for PBIS and um Diane McKinley had let it that time and uh her staff has grown and Tiffany fer joined us and it it was a good day um refresh our materials resources plans um um core values beliefs um those kinds of things that were in there so that was a it

was a very good day positive day for everybody that was there and then um I will wrap up with that all of our schools have received their High reliability School certification in level one as a safe supportive and collaborative culture so HRS level one has been a year-long process um and uh the achievement it takes a bunch of teamwork and and collaboration by by May and commitment so um it is it is a pretty big deal so if you look in Indiana there are only 28 total schools in Indiana that have received certification in um Marano's HRS and we now hold five of those 28 so and Marzano is a um they are a leading researcher um in education and very very well known and respected um and to have that certification with IO is

is uh is a big achievement and something that our school should be proud of so congratulations to all the buildings and and those that that did the work into that so it's big deal BR is an excellent job leading that initiative and process and um you know I think we we've been dabbling since really when you go through the Indiana principal Leadership Institute it kind of lead you through they EXP you so we've done a lot of the things but rent and the principles and then my really my favorite part about it is is that you can't make it through the certification process as a principal Until you realize I have to work with my staff because it can't be done by just one person but yeah so once yeah you know that's a whole

part of about being a collaborative environment so it's great but Brand's done a wonderful job with that and there's a few of them up but if you by the schools they going to the banners posted and the middle schools is up the high schools is up and trying to figure out PL locations for for our elementaries but um but yeah exciting that is your assistant super all right good evening graduation was a great success I appreciate the attendant uh staff administrators and board members I do love seeing the high school teachers there um and it's it was a good day and I will say that in all of our HVAC issues that we've worked through with our projects I think we actually had the system where actually could handle the gym for once so that

was a good thing um mayor Barton's asked me to serve on a housing steering committee we work to create a housing plan so my area of interest in this is to focus on the blight and Rehabilitation housing definitely in our area hopefully we can you see that so it's good to see that there would be a group working there and it does cover the county um but hopefully Focus kind on some of those areas in the city educational leadership uh we've completed all staff evaluations so you know few hundred of those that was good um so that again is one of those that takes a lot of time and people putting effort into kind of work build each other up and go through that um in the personnel management category we did get our IRB

compliance report and we were compliant so yeah that is good so um celebrations so I don't know if it's necessarily a celebration that we had the major gas leak outside of POS but it's a celebration of how well the students and staff handled the situation um you know the hose and CHS staff work through it we but it was like the perfect drill for us to have right it was like um because you know we did have a staff member that was having a medication reaction so not only are we trying to load kids on the buses you got a staff get on an ambulance you got so like if you were to do a full scale drill these are all the things you would throw in there it was it was during lunch um

so some of the kids had eaten but the the Food Service people made lunch at the high school Lisa Warren was okay that we had food or drink in the gy auditory um so yeah and you know the safety response team of course they we went into action Amber and Brent did an amazing job there food service and maintenance and the ground staff you know just the number of people it takes to pull something off like that is huge but luckily we work it every year year and twice some years so bus drivers um you think of just everything you have to do to pull that off they all do obviously our school resource officers Crawfordville Police Department Crawfordville fire department so I celebrate that we have a community of people that can pull that

out can I add to that yeah um once I received the phone notification I thought the K1 building maybe I can be of use guiding or kind of gring and by and I just left I just quit what I was doing drove over and they were already gone I mean so that's how efficient that came off so hats off to everybody was involved and you hate to have to do that but knowing we can is is a good feeling yes and yeah so we learned a lot through it um but I think we know what things have to be tweaked don't and but in general the praise from parents has been wonderful and so so nice to have a situation like that where we're not having to deal with the pr or the mess for

weeks so I think there's value and how long ago this process was started right out plunket on our school board what's instrumental with whole starting the whole school safety school safety hard to say that and never with changes in leadership and all that it never went away right just just kept working on it and I think that's obviously really important thing we've kept working on all those years so that when something like this happens it runs smoothly yes it is it it worked very well did they have to evacuate the neighborhood and this building too localized enough it felt really the risk was to the west of w side okay um but yeah but they did feel in trouble but you know yeah so it's not even our gas line so but yeah uh girls

tennis team won a sectional Championship um Junior Niara byard um placed 18th in the state in the long jump she's a junior and she's working with coach Morgan year round so that is outstanding baseball won a sectional and Regional Championship so that was good I'm very proud of the boys and uh great for Coach modes I think he was starting to feel the the pressure of not want a sectional with Crawfordville baseball um and the boys were the all sports Conference champions for the sagore conference for the first time since 2009 [Music] so yeah yeah y so don't forget Cara graduation um at 7 o'clock at CHS for on Thursday June 27th I'm re Striker and I'm an aths CMS is Right Care of graduation at CHS this year so we've done it at C

last year we were at CMS because we were working the stage I believe but the in did say CS I think because I in my C to all right not aware of any other business moving on to board member Communications uh attended a meeting this week um that the our local United Way M County United Way the former Muffy back in the day um is bringing the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program to Mony County I found out that we were one of only eight counties in the whole state that didn't already have this and in fact the state legisl will cover half the cost so the United Way is stepping up Gina hail is stepping up to coordinate that program and so um I intend to join the committee uh for that as well it's

a great dovetail with between the museum and school board and everything else but um super excited about that program to get our kids our youngest kids reading that if you're not familiar with the program which I wasn't I knew about it but I didn't know the details um the idea is you sign up for that and from birth through your fifth birthday kids are mailed a book of the month free to their homes and it's addressed to the kid which is fun and so if you sign up literally you sign your kids up at child birth you can get 60 free books per child to build their home Library if you will and um they use Random House books so local connection too which is great so uh there's going to be obviously a big

push to start uh communicating that through it just kind of a soft launch right now the website is finally up now this week but they haven't started marketing and all that yet but um that will be exciting and the plan to work with our preschools and and even the Toddlers and the young kids because as early as we can get these kids right and start reading to them and books in the home and all that so um I think it's really exciting thing for crossford though in Montgomery County to to finally get this prog as well with Dr R's comments exactly exactly all Dove Tails so nice all right Patron comments one last chance hearing none I would entertain a motion to adjourn second all favor right see any exciting for the summer people asking
