009Congratulations you guys. Read off all the names here. Even some of you might not be here but we'll recognize them anyways. So they're not here. We have a is it Maxim Chernobi Sha Patel Sophie Meyer that's coach Jamie Le Jackson Man, that shot Bianca just beating up these names here. 010English. So we came in uh first in the regional section and uh our theme this year was American Revolution. Thank you. It's been a couple weeks. So um and we do appreciate uh Julie, Miss Julie Wendor for donating our books to help us succeed. And we're really proud of our team. >> I coach this science and math team science. Uh you need to understand understand that this is high school level material that they're asking for our students to know. Um, most of our students were sixth graders. So, we are really excited to see what they're going to be able to do in the next two years, being able to blow them out of the water. So, having as many sixth graders as we do being able to do high school material, it really just astounds

011us. So, we are so proud of our kids. >> Okay. Want to also coaches, thank you for coaching them along. If you guys want to get together for a picture, please. And uh in there Okay, if we could have the 2025 2026 academic Super Bowl team for Colonel Wheeler, please come on in. Just come all the way down right here. All right, got a smaller group. Excellent. All right. I think we'll begin. First, it's uh it's my honor to present this accommodation award to you for your winning first place in the Lake County in the math category in class one at the Indiana Junior Academic Super Bowl competition. So Mia is not here today, but Mia Baker, London, London Hines, Victoria Samora, then this is Mrs. Merley here. >> I'll present to you Miss Miller. >> All right. >> Congratulations. Now, would either of you like to talk about the season and what this means for the school and and how proud you are of these students? >> So, technically, our second team tied and then they had to figure out who is really the top the top here. So, we had an excellent group of math students come through and I'm just so proud of every single one of them. And I'm proud of our whole academic team because they all worked really hard. Um, we've been getting together since December and usually at least once or twice a

014week and they've really everybody has put such forth effort and to see them just grow as students and become teammates through academia instead of sports is really a fun thing to watch. Why don't you slide to the middle? We'll take some pictures. If we can have the Colonel Wheeler robotics team, Please come on in all the way down if you would to the very end so we can get everybody in. Excellent. That was a quick transition. Well done. All right. It's my honor to present this commendation award to your the Colonel Wheeler Robotics team 78151N for winning the excellence award and team 78151C for winning third place in the division finals at the Indiana State VEX robotics competition. Uh team 78151 North or sorry used to doing addresses all day. I'm going to read the

015resolution of accommodation. The Crown Point Board of School of Trustees is honored to commend the 2025 2026 Colonel Wheeler Robotics team for meritorious achievement. Be it hereby resolved that the board of school trustees for the Crown Point Community School Corporation wishes to express sincere congratulations to the 2025 2026 Coler Colonel Wheeler Robotics team 78151N for winning the excellence award and team 78151C for winning third place in the division finals at the Indiana State VEX robotics competition. The board of school of trustees publicly recognizes this achievement and renders it permanently to its minutes to be preserved for public posterity this 18th day of May 2026. Congratulations. >> Okay, if I could ask Coach Early and Coach Hayes and is there coach? Which one? Coach Hilberger didn't make it. So, if you want to come up here

016and speak about the team and the competition and if you're okay covering that and then if uh you'll read the names, I'll hand the awards. >> Say something nice about these guys. >> Yeah, if you can. >> I tried. >> I try. >> No. Um, honestly, it's one of the best years we've had in robotics at Wheeler in a long time. They've when they got the excellence award, they truly earned the excellence award. They were in the mornings, lunchtime, after school, two hours after school, kept working, learning new things, even above where I know to see that team excel with their emotions, with everything else. Bring their hearts to it. They truly deserve that award. Now, for C, dramatic pause for a second there. No. Um, that's our first year team. They've never done robotics

017before. They grasp for anything they can learn. Build themselves up with other teams and prevailed. They truly almost at every term except for our first one for obvious reasons. Got third and fourth place at every tournament that they went to. They never let it bother them down. They always won that first and second trophy, but honestly getting two trophies at state level and for knowing you guys personally, all of you, it's the best gift this coach can have. Seriously, who said that? Heard they all. Okay, I give you that one. Um, honestly, stay two hours after school. You guys made it worth it. All the teams did. So, I tell you guys this, I do appreciate you guys more than you realize sometimes. Thank you. >> And before we present these awards, I just got

018to say that's some really sharp gear. Those jerseys and uniforms that you made, fighting Bulldogs, pretty cool stuff. So, I don't know who designed that, but somebody gets props. >> You want to come over? Liam Patel Miller say I'm shortda Dash Cal Leo and Agnos Christ can't be here Myers Young. Coach Early All right. Thank you. If you could just stay there for some photos and congratulations again. Welcome. So, next up we have our Crown Point High School Project Lead the Way biomedical science students. So, we have Emily Alamad, Kim, Simra Khan, Ail Smma, and these ladies won first place overall at the big cell pitch competition at Purdue Northwest. uh Purdue Northwest University. So, I'm going to read their commen accommodation awards and then we're going to um hear a few words from their

019wonderful teacher and get their white jackets. So, our resolution of commendation, the Crown Point Board of School Trustees is honored to commend these students for meritorious achievement. It hereby resolved that the board of school trustees for Crown Point Community School Corporation wishes to express sincere congratulations to Emily Alamad, a student in the Crown Point Community School Corporation PLTW Biomedical Science Program for winning first place overall in the Big Cell Pitch competition at Purdue University Northwest. The board of school trustees publicly recognizes this achievement and renders it permanently to its minutes to be preserved for public posterity. Dated 18th day of May 2026. So we've got Emily first and then next up we have Simra and a seal. And before I let coach say a few words, um I am especially excited to get to present

020this one. These uh young ladies are absolutely amazing. I had the opportunity to sit in on a little um sneak peek of their pitch before they were officially ready to um to to give that at the competition. And I am so impressed with the caliber of ladies that these um that these students are both on the human side of things, on the student side of things, just all around their character and um their academic and hard work that they've put in is um is something that makes me very proud to be a part of Crown Point, very proud to have them a part of our Crown Point schools. And I cannot wait to hear what comes of uh this project in the future and um and where you ladies end up along your journey. So,

021um, I'll let you say a few words about how everything got started and then if you want we can do our formal coding. Okay, perfect. >> Um, just real quick a little bit about the PLTW biomedical science program. Um, these right here I'm presenting class of 2026, the three students who actually completed all four of the classes at the high school. Um, in these classes, students learn to explore the different fields in medicine. Um, some of the different sets that they'll walk away with. Uh besides project based learning that they're getting exposed to, they're going to learn a higher level of advanced skills with critical thinking, collaboration, communication, um analyzing data, lab techniques, using micro pipets, and becoming pretty efficient with using gel electrofpharesis and some of the other tools that you see uh behind

022the scenes in the medical field. Um so each one of these girls have completed all four years, and that's that's kudos. It's a it's a very small percentage. So, it's awesome. Um, with the BI class, which is the fourth year class, allows for teachers to have a little bit of creative freedom and really student driven. And so, they have a curriculum provided for you or if there's a student that wants to do research with professor or work in a medical lab, they have that opportunity. And as a teacher, I can grant that because they're getting real world experience. And so I gave the girls their first project this year and it was coming up with a medical device um that you might see in an ER and from there I said well guys there's this

023thing that is going on in Northwest Indiana and all over Indiana which is um started ed competition and so it's for entrepreneurs and so we kind of put it in there. Simra has a big uh background with BPA and it kind of just fits. So they came together, came up with their own business, um did a lot of market research, and then we went for the big cell at Purdue Northwest. And out of that, there was only 10 finalists that made it to that. And out of those 10, three high schools made it. Griffith High School, Monster High School, and then Crown Point. And the only high school that placed and placed first place was our girls right here. Uh they got $10,000 for their seed fund uh for their business. Um, and a little

024bit about like their business. You guys can find them on the web at Gluccoare. Um, but I don't know if you guys have questions for them. Um, but it's pretty phenomenal where they're going to do with it. Um, but I am going to present their white coat, uh, which is very common for any PLTW, biomedical science students to receive after they've completed the four years. While we're bringing in our next group, our next great group is the Business Professionals of America team. They can come on in. Um while they're walking in, for anyone who missed it, the name of um the the invention from our last group is called Glucco. So, if you have time, look that up on YouTube. I think you can see their presentation. It's really amazing um what they've created and

025I wish we had more time if we didn't have so many accommodations. Um but please if you have time check it out. They are truly fantastic. So on to our next amazing group of students. These are our CPHs Business Professionals of America Club. So I will read um actually these are probably all different, aren't they? For each of our kiddos. All right. I think we're all the same. So, I'll go ahead and read our commendation award and then we'll let Mrs. Backnack say a few words. Is that good? Okay. Resolution of commendation. The Crown Point Board of School Trustees is honored to commend the 2025 2026 Business Professionals of America America team for meritorious achievement. Be it hereby resolve that the board of school trustees for the Crown Point Community School Corporation wishes to express

026sincere congratulations to the 2025 2026 Business Professionals of America team for winning first place award and two sixth place awards at the 2026 National Leadership Conference. The board of school trustees publicly recognizes this achievement and renders it permanently to its minutes to be preserved for public posterity dated this 18th day of May, 2026. Would you like to say a few words and then I'll pass these out? Perfect. Yep. Let's Can we have Mason Erbini come on up? >> Hi everybody. My name is Mason Erbini. Um this year when I went to nationals I ended up winning first place the national leadership conference in my event presentation individual and I was tasked with multiple students across the nation to craft a seven to 10 minute presentation um about how schools and students and parents should go

027forward in dealing with AI in education. Um so basically I had to do a lot of research with teachers, students. Um I even talked about magic school in my presentation and some feedback from teachers from Crown Point High School on to how we should go forward into trying to implement AI in education safely, smartly, and effectively while also minimizing the risks. Um, so that was what my presentation was about this year. Thank you. >> I feel like even as they're speaking and saying these things, it is no surprise that they have won awards at this level. Um, and this is always our sharpest dressed group. So, I very much appreciate um the effort that you guys put in and any parents out there who were in charge of ironing or steaming some of these things.

028Um our next one is Karum Arbini. All right. Good evening everyone. My name is Cara Marbini and I'm currently a sophomore at Crown Point High School. This year I also had the privilege of attending the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference and with my event titled Administrative Support Research Project. I was tasked with the ability to conduct a seven-page research paper, present an oral presentation as well as conduct a Q&A session with a panel of judges over a topic regarding generative artificial intelligence with the administrative sector. And so simply put, I was tasked with all of these abilities and I competed against individuals from across not only Northwest Indiana, but across the state of Indiana as well as at the national level and I ended up placing sixth. Thank you. >> Congratulations. This one

029that we have is for Caesar. >> Good afternoon everyone. My name is Caesar Kieran. I'm a senior at Crown Point. I'll be attending Notre Dame next year. So this year I also had the privilege to compete at the national level. And my event was tasking me with basically the focus of pediatric oncology and how can we better these outcomes for a lot of people throughout the state. So mine was very policy focused on increasing equitable access to people in undeserved or rural areas to make sure everybody could get the solutions and the therapies and treatments they need. You know, cancer is a terrible thing nowadays and we really need to focus on how can we improve this at every single level. So, it really taught me about how the grassroots movements and advocacy at every

030state of the way can really improve and affect every one of our lives. And last, but certainly not least, is our coach, Mrs. Backnack, who is absolutely amazing. And we also have um coach Scott McFarland, who is not here this evening, correct? Um So, we have students in in uh Business Professionals of America who are outstanding, hardworking, and amazing at everything they do. But it would also not be possible without an amazing coach putting in all of the hard work. And this is a program that we've had up here a number of times. It feels like um sometimes a couple times a year because it is such an accomplished program, but I like to remember not to take that for granted as something that we just expect and also continue to remember how much hard

031work is put into that. So thank you so much coach back. If we could all have our employee finalists and teachers of the year please step If you're a finalist or winner, I do need you up front, front to center. Thank you. >> Like you tell your students, Mr. Had a little hustle. Let's go get in here. Missing a few. All right, I'm gonna bypass. You guys have all heard the accommodation awards and welldeserved whether it be for the secondary level teacher of the year, elementary level teacher of the year, or employee of the year. Congratulations to you all. I will read your name and uh come on up and get your certificate. So, uh, teacher of the year finalist from Taff Middle School, Connie Scott from Colonel Wheeler Middle School. Austin Thor from Eisenhower

032Elementary School. Patty from Lake Street Elementary School. Kathleen Zach Rice from MacArthur Elementary School. Kristen McFerson from Solen Robinson Elementary School. Leah Natovic, sorry. I'll forget that. From Timothy Ball Elementary School, Castor Seas. Teacher of the year finalist from Jerry Ross Elementary School, Kylie. Our employee of the year finalist from Crown Point High School, Marjanna Saloska. Oh, okay. from the elementary school. Jodie Kvachkov. Congratulations from Timothy Ball Elementary School. Beth Peters and from Winfield Elementary School, Lisa Posier. Now on to our winners. Uh I where's if I can come Kathy come closer to Mary and then Josh come on in here get your just do for winning this award. First of all to our teacher of the year at the secondary level Mary Bpoint High School. Our teacher of the year elementary level from Winfield

033Elementary, Josh Huddle. Employee of the year from Jerry Ross Elementary, Kathy Burke. Please, if you all would remain here, we do have our administrator of the year. We're I'm turning this over to March and Fermy. Okay. So, um those of you who don't know this is a surprise. So, the people in the room right now do not know or the winner does not know this right now. Um and I didn't want to cheat the winner because I I did want to read part of the nomination because I do think it it kind of sums some things up. So, as I get into this, yes, this leader has really built a school culture rooted in positivity, respect, accountability, and care for students. And I totally agree with that. Um, you're gonna know this right away when

034I read this part of the nomination. All right. Whether he's greeting students in the hallway, supporting staff, or leading schoolwide initiatives, he consistently demonstrates what it means to lead with heart and purpose. His famous fireside chats are more than just conversations. There are opportunities for students to reflect on character, responsibility, perseverance, and becoming better human beings. Is he even in here? He continually reminds students that success is not only measured academically, but also how we treat others and contribute to our community. Um, also I want to mention one of the great things Jake does with uh recognizing his staff is his traveling varsity jacket which he awards to a staff member who is going above and beyond for students and the student community on a monthly basis and they get to take a picture with

035Jake in their jacket and they love it and it's just a part of that recognition that really builds that teamwork and strong sense of pride amongst his staff. So for his leadership reminds everyone that feeling valued and appreciated matters and the recognition can have a lasting impact on school community. Congratulations Jake Rodriguez Awards like this don't come lightly. It's not overlooked. Uh community that we have here in Crown Point is the reason that we can do our job. Everybody, thank you so much. What an honor. Thank you. registered comment on educational issues. Tonight we have two individuals. If I could have Colette Lambert, please. >> Good evening and thank you for your patience. I know that was >> No, that's okay. I've got to cut out too because I work at the library. took a

036little bit off. But anyway, >> before you begin, give me I just want to remind you, you got three minutes to speak. At the 30 second mark, Miss Basin will just say 30 seconds so you know you can wrap it up. Okay, >> perfect. >> All right. Thank you. If you please state your name and your address. >> Yep. Uh Colette Herald Lambert, 431 East Greenwood Avenue in Crown Point. >> Um so I'd like to start by saying that my husband's a high school teacher, my brother's an assistant principal, my sister-in-law is an elementary school teacher, and I taught middle school for 11 years before I now work at the library. So, I'm well verssed in Senate Bill One and the havoc it has wre in Indiana. Um, I email and call Olaf and Eer

037very often, for more than they would like. Um, so I truly do sympathize with the position that you guys were put in, which is beyond your control. Um, but as it seems, Hoosiers will continue to vote for representatives who do not champion public schools. We are going to have to continue to deal with the financial wreckage that that causes. Um, I recently learned that my child's preschool teacher at Solen Robinson was cut and he will now have um a traveling assistant principal instead of a permanent assistant principal. I also got the message that 12 teaching positions are not being replaced. My other child goes to the play school program at the high school which has been terminated and the birth to school program that my children used to attend was also cut last semester. All

038these positions were cut uh cut were filled by people who directly worked with our kids. these people uh the people who interact with our kids every day are the most essential staff when it comes to a school. Obviously, to run a school, there need to be people in administration, but I was shocked to see how bloated the administration is in our district. Um, as a former teacher, I know how schools work probably more than a lot of parents, and I feel obligated to question the board and admin now about the value of some of these positions. I worked with the secondary curriculum director when I taught within the Lake Central Schools as I was a part of the team developing the curriculum for the eighth grade language arts team. And I understand. continue to face

039the challenges of functioning with less funding from the state. I urge you to please prioritize the positions of those who work with our children instead of those removed in top administrative positions. Thank you. >> Thank you, Miss Lambert. U we can't make comment or have exchange but at the end of the discussion we have >> so you may want to watch later. >> Okay. I was say I'm sorry I have to go back to the >> You're fine. I say you can watch the the video later if there's a response. Okay. >> Okay. Thank you. >> If I could ask I I'm sorry. I I think it's Johnson. I don't have the first name. Is it Tar? >> Tara. That's T. I'm sorry. Tara Johnson. Thank you. Fantastic. Thank you for coming. I apologize. I

040just couldn't make out the spelling. Um, could you please state your name? >> Yeah. Terra Johnston, 905 Huey Drive. >> Thank you. Same rules. Three minutes. We'll give you 30 seconds. >> Okay. Um, so I brought with me today Pablo Perilin. He's an exchange student from Madrid, Spain, who's been living with my little family over there for um since last August. So Pablo is a sophomore at the high school and I want to start by thanking the corporation and specifically the high school because they have really made him feel at home and it's tough being away from family for that long. So I want to thank you all. Um so over the last 10 months we've tried to take take Pablo as many places as possible in our region and across the country. So, of

041course, he's done Indiana, he's done Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Missouri. Those are all off his bucket list. And we actually took him to Mexico twice. Uh Cabo and uh Cancun. So, and our travels aren't over because this weekend he's going to um visit LA and visit GTA spots. I'd never seen the game, but apparently it's a game with a lot of LA in it. So anyway, but as much as we've traveled, Pablo has very much immersed himself right here in our community. Um he's really done well at school. He was actually invited to the National Honor Society. Um he played pups basketball and he also became a fixture at both of these robotics kids journeys. Um and he was also at the YMCA. I'd say about 50 to 70% of the days of the week.

042He really loved that. Um, and he's also been doing some public service that wasn't actually required from him, but uh about twice a week he visits a 96 year old uh elderly lady who is at a nursing home and she actually is from Spain so that kind of works out and sometimes she's forgetful. So she'll be speaking in English and then she'll something in Spanish and we're like Pablo what she say. So he's been really good um about doing public service too while he's been here and he also had a wonderful impact on some of the younger students at Wheeler. Uh my son Bennett here has Mr. Bon for social studies class and he did his final project on Spain. So Pablo came to what 22 sixth graders in a room. Then it presented and

043uh Pablo got to answer any questions. Um so all of this has been a spectacular experience for our family and anyone in the community that has crossed paths with Pablo. And I know our system, our school system's facing some cuts, but I just hope that this type of thing doesn't go away um for programs like this in our school district because it's been really good. So, I want to thank you all and Pablo might have something to say too. >> Pablo, if you have something you want to say, I'll say something. >> I just got to say that this was a good experience and I had a good time. I like Crown Point High School especially because of all the physical activity you can do there and I really like the YMCA. I also have

044to thank the Crown Point Community High School Corporation for hosting me in the high school. >> Thank you. >> Move on to the consent agenda tonight. We have Dr. Terrell. Thank you for your consideration this evening. We have uh three items on the consent agenda. 4.01 is our regular business meeting minutes from 427. 4.02 is our personnel agenda and 4.03 is the voucher registered checks as listed. Thank you Dr. Terrell. Board members, you heard the recommendation administration for approval of 4.01 April 27th, 2026. Raider business meeting minutes 4.02. The personal agenda 4.03. Voucher register check numbers 18042 through 180649. And vouchers number through 31364. May I have a motion? So moved by Mr. Angel, second by Miss Bas. Any questions or comments? There being no questions or comments, we'll move to a vote. All in

045favor signify by saying I. I nay. Vote carries 4. >> Thank you, Dr. Darl. Uh we'll move on to item five, action items 5.01, policy conversion, wave readings and approval. Mr. >> Thank you, Mr. President and board members. I bring with you tonight some language uh to update a an important policy and that is regarding electronic devices in our schools. As you know, new state legislation has been passed and finally have received language that will allow us to just update our policy on electronic devices. I've highlighted some key areas there. Um, as you know now, uh, if students are to bring electronic devices to school, they must be powered off and stored during the school day. That means no access during passing periods, lunch, etc. So, we'd like you to this evening in order for

046us to get this language into our student handbooks in preparation for the fall. Uh we ask that you wave the readings and approve this new language in our electronic device policy so that we may move forward with sharing this in our student handbooks and with our school. >> Thank you, Mr. Ka. Members, you heard a recommendation to wave the readings and approve the new uh policy language as set forth by Mr. Kiwa for uh policy number 5136, personal communication devices by Miss Basel. Any questions or comments? >> Question basically state devices that we just correct. >> Yeah, this is state law dictating to us what we need to get into our policy. >> Thank you. >> And as with other policies, we move on from ISB. >> That's correct. Any other questions? All right. No

047further questions or comments. Move to a vote. All in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Vote carries 4. Thank you, Mr. Item 5.02 resolution number 874 2.5 million transfer from day to education Mr. Thank you Mr. President members of the board tonight we bring before you resolution 874 which is a $2.5 million transfer from the rainy day fund to the education fund as presented to you last month as part of our financial recovery plan. This two and a half million will go to offset the reductions that were made during this calendar year for this I should say for next school year as you're aware those reductions only impact really July through December through December therefore that differenceion does that next month we'll be bringing to you an additional appropriation for the $2.5 million in

048the education fund first we need to approval to transfer that $2.5 million to establish that money available for that addition. With this transfer, it'll bring our projected rainy day balance at the end of the year down to 5.3 million, which is about 5% of our expenditures for our operating funds in 2026. So with that, we're recommending approval resolution 874 million transfer from the rainy day fund to the education fund. >> Thank you, Mr. Ree. Board members, you heard a recommendation administration for approval of resolution number 874 for 2.5 million transfer from the rain day fund to the education fund and a walot. So moved by Mr. Angel, second by Miss Bas or comments there being no questions or comments move to a vote. All in favor signify by saying I. I. Nay. Vote carries. Thank

049you, Mr. Ree. Uh, we'll move on to item six, uh, 6.01, superintendent discussion groups. Um and then here uh item 6.02, Director Elementary Education, Dr. Kina. >> Thank you, Mr. President and board members. Tonight I want to share a little bit about uh some meetings that we've had with elementary teachers over the last couple weeks. Um had about 80 teachers involved in 12 different curriculum map update meetings. Um at these meetings, uh this is our third consecutive year having these meetings in May. Uh but we have one teacher from each grade level from each school. uh we get together for about 90 minutes and talk about uh second grade math and then uh those teachers head back to school and we do this again for second grade uh reading and we do that at each

050grade level. Um kind of talk through how the year went uh what updates or adjustments we need to make any fine-tuning that we need to do. Um, but just continue to really be impressed with uh the knowledge of our teachers of the Indiana standards, our curriculum. Uh, they really know things inside and out. They are very solutionoriented. You can tell they want to be there. They want to collaborate with each other. U, so just very grateful for all the teachers involved in updating our curriculum maps. It's been a great process. Um, really appreciate them and their work. Um, want to thank our elementary music team. On May 6th, we had several hundred of our second graders uh on the Taft football field. I was able to catch the tail end of it. Lots of happy

051people coming out. Uh, family members, grandparents, friends. Um, just a really unique opportunity for our second graders. And just a big thank you to our elementary music team for their creativity to put on an event like that. And there were so many second grade teachers there, too, supporting their kids. It was just a very, very cool event. Uh, speaking of special events, next Wednesday, our preschool bulldog buddies who are moving on to kindergarten will be at the fairgrounds at 12:30. If you'd like to see their sendoff to kindergarten, uh we call it the Bulldog Bash, but that is happening uh next Wednesday at 12:30 for our Bulldog buddies heading to kindergarten. Uh, finally tonight, I just want to uh recognize and thank everyone working in our elementary schools with DARE graduations, field days, music programs,

052talent shows, award ceremonies, um things happening in classrooms, just our our teachers and staff do so much to make meaningful, memorable moments for our kids. Um they've been pushing hard with high expectations all year. It's been a great year. just uh looking forward to a strong finish. So uh just grateful for everyone and all their hard work. Thank you. >> 6.03 director of secondary education. >> Thank you, Mr. President and board members. Tonight I would like to start by showing and sharing some appreciation for Zach Wells, who is one of our assistant principles over at Crown Point High School. He has been with a team of secretaries and administrators working to administer AP testing which is a very big uh feat to tackle. There's a lot of communication, a lot of planning, um working with

053the teachers, communicating with families and so they have administered approximately 1779 exams to over 1,193 students in over 29 subjects. Um, in addition to all of the work that that team did to make sure that we had a successful advanced placement testing season, um, I also want to thank the Crown Point Community Foundation. They very generously awarded us with the ability to offset the cost of exams for students who applied um, due to a financial difficulty or financial hardship and we were able to award grants to 43 of our students to offset the cost of an exam so that they could take an advanced placement test. So, we're very grateful for the partnership with Crown Point Community Foundation. As Dr. China um shared at the secondary level, there are a lot of exciting um kind

054of year end celebrations that are happening. And I'm just very thankful to of course the administrators, to the teachers, to the staff that provide these opportunities, whether it's career exploration, career day, uh eighth grade celebration that they have Friday night lights that just happened over at the high school for our seniors, honor celebrations, graduation coming up on June 2. It is a very busy time of year, but it's also a wonderful time of joy and celebration of all of the hard work that has gone into making the year a success. Want to thank Amanda Chitchen. You met her earlier with her students from the biomedical innovations course. Amanda, I want to recognize as having provided this opportunity to our students and that she partnered with and um kind of collaborated with a teacher from Munster

055to really make sure that our students had um solid understanding of what they were getting into and then to see what our students were able to accomplish is really quite um impressive. But again, want to thank her for providing the opportunity in the first place. And then to the students for all of their hard work, care, poise, and dedication to their glucose care. On Thursday of last week, some of us were able to attend an entrepreneurship fair over at Crown Point High School. And want I want to thank Allison Duncan, who is one of our business teachers over at the high school who organized this event, allowed us to come in and hear students presenting a sales pitch for a product that they had researched andor developed. They were able to do um extensive, I

056think, interaction with either community members, with each other to really prepare for this event. And so it was a great opportunity to kind of see what we saw here today, which is what our coursework really prepares kids to be able to do. When we see that students are developing these skills to speak in public, to engage, I am always kind of caught off guard when there's like a firm handshake, eye contact, these are skills that, you know, our students have to be taught and our teachers teach them um things from th that level to of course being able to then win awards through Business Professionals of America. And lastly, I would just like to congratulate um all of our teacher of the year, employee of the year, and um of course our admin of the

057year finalists and nominees. Really, it is such a blessing and it's an inspiration to get to work in Crown Point Community School Corporation. And so to see all that our teachers tackle, how our admins support our teachers, how they work in partnership to consistently be moving us forward. They see where our needs are and they don't pause to take action. and they know how to do hard work to overcome obstacles and to really collaborate. So, I'm just very grateful um to get to work with not only the secondary teachers but with a fantastic team um people that are in this room who you know continue to contribute every day to the commitment of excellence in Crown Point. Thank you. >> Thank you. Director of exceptional education. Good evening, President Smith, members of the board. Uh,

058last month I mentioned a project with Ben's Blue Bags, which is um a first responder, Matt Kotichek, in the area who builds these sensory and communication tool bags filled with um all kinds of goodies for students who might have issues with sensory needs, communication needs, and they are in all of our first responders cars here. While with uh Wheelers, NJHS, Darlene Varga, and Patty Croll, the sponsors, we had four students go to five of our elementaryaries and make deliveries to the applied skills classrooms. And so, I just want to mention those students, Gabriella Stannis, Fiona McGee, Eleanor Carol, and Avery Willlet. So, I appreciate the work they did putting that together and getting those to our students. Um our department right now is in the midst of a um audit u by IDOE. This is

059a new procedure they're doing once every six years. We were fortunate enough to be in the first cohort. So um we have a fiscal monitoring procedure that we're working with Mr. Reese and his office and getting the required materials submitted there. Um and then the next layer is a policies and procedures audit. So uh they have given us about five pages of topics that relate to state and federal special education law and we have to provide proof that we have board policy and polic uh procedures within our department to meet all those requirements. So that is due next month. So we are working on gathering all that information. Um, I want to thank my staff who throughout this year have held thousands of case conferences to help students, to help families. Um, and then hundreds

060of problemolving meetings that touch every department here, transportation, child care, elementary, secondary, adult students. Um, and we just do it for kids and try to uh make school a good place for kids. So, thank you to all of my staff that are involved in those meetings. Um, and the last thing is probably the best. Wednesday is Unified Game Day. So, if you didn't already have it in your calendar, please come out. We'll be at the high school 9:30 to 1. Um, Ben's Blue Bags is bringing their sensory trailer. Um, so that's going to be a new uh event for our students to try out. So, we'd love to see you. Thank you. Thank you, Miss 6.05, assistant superintendent, Mr. J. >> Thank you, Mr. President. Um, the directors always do such a great job of

061uh covering most things. So, I'll just try to fill in a few things that are left over here. Um, we are at the end of the year and we do want to thank all of our admins, teachers, staff for getting us here for sure. It's a lot of work, but it's very rewarding work. Um, I wanted to share with you the teachers of the years, employee of the years in those Those are amazing people. They really fill our buckets doing those interviews with them. But each and every one of them through the course of their interview just said how much they love their job and how much they love working for Crown Point schools, which I think is a great reflection on the community and the families that we get. So, we really appreciate those

062sentiments from them and we also appreciate them for sure. And then one last more uh just u just some appreciation to our guidance counselors at the high school, the guidance director Lauren Sandor and all those guidance uh counselors who kind of arrange our grad walks which is a kind of a a nice new tradition that we've started maybe in the last five six years where the seniors get to go to their elementary school that they attended in gowns. And also a thank you to the admins and the elementary teachers and all the kids who just make that a big big event and a parade and do the human tunnels for them. So I think it's just a really kind of a neat tradition that kind of connects the high school back to the elementary school.

063I think everybody enjoys it. So just thanks to everyone that organizes that participates in that as well. >> Thank you Mr. Bemy 6.06 Chief Human Resource Officer. >> Thank you Mr. President and board members. Just echoing what Mark shared about the teacher of the year, play of the year. That process is incredibly enjoyable and it's uh just so fulfilling to hear people when we interview them just sort of gush over how much they love working in our schoolorporations. It's pretty amazing what our folks do each and every day. I want to go ahead and thank um Renee Rich in my department, all of our directors, all of our principles um and all of our teachers and support staff uh for starting to engage for the first time ever in electronic evaluations. We're working with some

064new software and frontline um where we're we're starting to have some employees. the evaluation system is not changing, but the medium that we're going to start to roll out to interact with uh that we're trying for the first time ever. I just want to thank everybody for working on this endeavor. We hope to grow this over the years. So, just thank you everybody for those efforts. And that's all. Thank you, Mr. Ke, chief financial officer. >> Thank you, Mr. President, members of the board. After reports starting uh this year, calendar year, uh we started working with representatives from each of our buildings along with representatives from our uh support departments. And we have formed an insurance committee that's been reviewing uh claims, our plans, uh and what things were upcoming and really introducing more how

065our insurance programs run uh to get them to share that word at the building levels. Hopefully utilize that plan a little more efficiently and effectively to try to keep our specifically our health care cost down. We've already started to see some benefit uh to that. We'll plan a third meeting once we get back from school to get us through the claims from the summer and leading up into not renegotiation but reevaluation of our plan going into the next calendar year to provide the best benefits at the best cost that we can for all of our employees. Like to thank those members who are g their time to work with us, greater understanding and sharing what our insurance plans are all about. So, I want to thank them for their time. >> Thank you, Mr. Ree.

0666.08 direct communications. >> Thank you. And good evening. I want to thank our digital media specialist, Rich Johnson, as well as Mr. for their help in developing a budget series that we have on our YouTube channel right now and we've been placing it in our newsletters as well. Um, the world runs on short videos for their information sources these days and so to distill something as complex as district finances into six videos that are each approximately a minute or less um that takes a lot of work. So, thank you to both of them for checking the scripts and the wording and just how we phrased everything as well as trying to translate that into a visual story for everybody in our district. Thank you. And then I also would like to briefly thank high school

067student Kayn Ward who has been working in our department this year as an intern. Kayn has been an incredible help. A lot of research tasks, some I don't know that she knew she was going to get to do this year. Um, but she did them very well and complaints. She's also been single-handedly managing the social media for one of our elementary schools this year and she did a fantastic job. So, thank you. >> Thank you, Miss Allen. Uh 6.09, Superintendent of Schools, Dr. >> Thank you. like to begin tonight by announcing our new admin positions that were voted upon in personnel report. U Matt Ma will become our director of transportation and moving from the high school athletic department and look forward to Matt's leadership there. Chris Cyber will become our new athletic director and

068Allison Duncan will be our new assistant athletic director. So we appreciate them stepping up uh to this challenge especially as we have some significant retirements this year. Um, also want to uh thank the board for your work this year, this semester especially. You guys have had eight additional meetings that normally don't have through strategic planning and and getting ready for that. And just know that I appreciate the efforts you all put forward, especially with all the schedules and and all of the other commitments that you have as well. Want to celebrate the end of the year as has been mentioned already. great year, great school year, so many uh incredible things that happened as was displayed tonight. Um again, excellence just continues to be that theme that goes throughout our district. Last thing I just

069want to bring to your attention, um we Brooke puts together a podcast summary of our board meeting every Tuesday morning that comes out uh posted by Tuesday afternoon and it's really informative. It's about six, seven minutes long and they really do a great just going back through and putting this hour hour and a half meeting into um more of a conversational approach to it. And if you haven't had a chance yet, check that out. It's it's really um enlightening in my opinion. So, thank you to Brooke for that work, but check that out. >> Thank you, Dr. Terrell. Item seven, other business of the board. or not, but appreciate anyone who does come and step forward and bring things to our shine light on something. All I would like to say is that as board

070member so many of those meetings were very very detailed information and research and juggling that you guys have done and brought forward to us as recommendations to make us feel informed and confident in what we might vote on or I think I appreciate that. One thing for anyone and everyone to understand is the title doesn't always represent the hats that are worn by somebody and think there's a lot of answers to the question when they're asked when what does somebody do a lot of answers for that. So I I just jump in on this conversation because I think Lambert brought up some good questions and fair questions that I think the general public want to touch upon. I just want to speak from my experience since I've been a board member here for 10 years.

071Um one of the things is we experienced life when there was no director of communications and I always joke jokingly say Mr. Jack was like our director of communications, a former board member and it wasn't necessarily we appreciate his efforts but it wasn't necessarily pretty. Um, so that was actually a more pressing hire and I would actually contend and sit up here publicly and say I think it was one of the better hires we ever made. So when it comes to the director communications, thank you Brooke for what you've done. Uh, that individual focuses on building out and managing all the different schools, the communications between the schools, the communications between the in the schools, the parent communications, always trying to improve those communications. When we talk about the media aspect of the school corporation,

072by the way, we're one of the largest corporations of all Crown Point, I believe. So, I mean, you wouldn't say if it was a private entity. Let's not have a director communications or otherwise. And I'm not saying that Miss Le said anything wrong. I just want to make sure I'm stating my position on this issue because I feel very strongly about it. And um and so I I wanted to touch on that. Class sizes, we have control of that. Mr. Ka talks to us regularly about class sizes and teachers and we are in a better position today than we were seven, eight years ago when I first came on the board when we had 35, 34, sometimes 36 kids in elementary schools and that was a pressing issue to myself and some of the other

073board members that are sitting here and other board members before and I can tell you and assure you we have a good pulse on class size. Now with that being said, nobody enjoys cuts. This is not a fun process. This is not anything that anybody up here wants to do. It's not anything that we want to release anybody because we love the people we have. So, but decisions have to be made and I thought you said it be best, Mr. Warney, that decisions and the time you and the rest of you put into this to come to this to have the least amount of impact is rather incredible. So, we appreciate your efforts. I appreciate your efforts. I think we look at the assistant principles. When I came to the board, there wasn't one assistant

074principal in our our school district, let alone one in every building. And several years we had a shared model like we're going back to. So I don't think it's as bad as what the public may see or what they're growing accustomed to. If you've been here long enough, you understand we're moving back maybe a little bit, but we're not moving back 10 years. And we've we've had it where it's more difficult and harder on teachers and more difficult harder on administrators and um we're going to fight and continue to survive and continue to press forward. So, this is uh in an opportunity to adjust and move forward and uh we'll do that, but I just I I thought it deserved a response because I feel like some of this is, you know, we don't always

075talk about it and I think she she's owed a response. So, hopefully she's seeing that. That's my personal opinion and um I just wanted to chime in. So, I don't know if any of you have any additional comments. Okay. All right. Uh let's go to uh item eight, board statements of appreciation and recognition. >> Yes, I have a a few this evening. Um I said everyone's mentioned at the end of the year lot going on and uh I thought Dr. said it best. I mean thank the the teachers for you know keeping the pedal down. It's been a long year but you're only a fourth grader once. You're only fifth grader once. Field day only happens once a year. and they put their energy forward to make this I mean I have a couple elementary

076school students and I know they're extremely excited with all the things that are taking place. Um, want to thank uh uh it's a girls on the run season just finished and it's a program that I mentioned it uh last year actually than coachi over at Lake Street and there's several other coaches in the district that need to be thanked but it's a program that I last year was a different excitement for me than than when you see what they learned and what they're taught. It might not have the same impact on every girl or runner but a small impact on a certain girl or runner can can really be lifechanging. I think it's one of those it's very impactful and the lessons that are taught. So, I want to thank uh the school system for

077continuing the girls on the run and all the coaches that are involved. Um we I know we many retirees on the uh agenda the last couple months and I hope to just thank them uh personally tomorrow at the breakfast and um oh uh Danielle if you help me with this one for a second. You know, we we were chatting in the corner. We both have students at Colonel Wheeler and so exciting to see Mr. Rodriguez received administrator of the year. Uh his uh fireside chats and it's all it's all so authentic. It's one of those it's just one of those moments we are sharing it. It's like we're so proud to have or so just privileged not proud privileged to have our students attend uh his school with his leadership and it's no It is

078nothing against any other leader, but but he has a a really pure authentic way of connecting and it's just so it's so noticeable to parents. We thank him for that. I'm sure Daniel has something more to say there. That's it for me. Thank you. Oh, one one more. Sorry. Uh Officer Polling and uh the um uh those of our crosswalk at this time of year to to remember to remember those car lines and the crosswalks. I my my thank you to him and them is that that's that when you pull into that school in the morning, you feel community and you walk in, they're waving, directing traffic, yelling at plenty of people, which is good. Need to, you know, keep them in line. But, uh, definitely want to thank, uh, those who help our, uh,

079traffic in and out in the morning and specifically off. uh just tonight to um three individuals that have been here my entire tenure on the board of 22 years. That's Barb Merrill, Marian Buckle, and Bill Derilla and the lives and contacts they've made of students for their long tenures here, the Crown Point School Corporation. So, uh yes, there is retirement lunchon tomorrow and they'll get their just due and welld deserved, but I want to make sure to public that those individuals touched two of them touched elementary students for plenty of years. If you think about, you know, 550 to 700 kids every year in the elementary school, times that by over 25 years, that's a lot of kids. And Bill doing the same thing in the athletic department with that high school enrollment growing from

080um low 2000s to now 3,000 kids in my 22 years here. So kudos to them. Congratulations. Wish them nothing but success in retirement. >> Miss Bas. >> Yeah. So I wanted to start by echoing Mr. sentiments about uh Mr. Rodriguez. We've been very privileged the last three years. Um I've had students in that building and um getting to watch him as a leader when I'm picking kids up in the middle of the day or uh volunteering for something uh in the building or just in drop off and pickup line. Watching the way that he makes an effort to authentically connect with each of his students in that building um makes a huge effort to connect with all of his staff in the building. He is truly a phenomenal leader. So, I'm I'm very pleased to

081see that he was able to be recognized tonight. And as you can see by the speech he gave, you couldn't ask for a more humble servant leader um than Mr. Rodriguez. So, uh very welldeserved congratulations to him. Um our next one is a a congratulations to all of our um teachers of the year who were nominated and and recognized tonight as well as our winners. But ultimately every teacher and every staff in our corporation who is interacting with students is the teacher of the year and the employee of the year to a student. So every one of our teachers classroom full of countless students and there is one student there who teacher was the world for them. They will go down in their permanent memory as the best teacher they ever had. And they've probably

082made those teachers a hundred little notes and cards saying you're the best. I love you. I know my um third grader has made a number of those for her teacher. Um but but I want to remind everyone that even if you were not recognized today, it was obviously such a small handful of people um who were able to ultimately recognize up here. But it does not go unnoticed that every single day you are the most important person to your group of students. And whether that's our our teachers um who are in the classroom, whether that's our staff in the building. I know um Last year we got to recognize some amazing food service employees who had had made phenomenal connections with their students in in the lunch lines transportation across the board. So, um a

083huge thank you to all of our folks as we wrap up the school year. A reminder that you are super important and um and really the reason why we're able to do what we do here and and educate these students and have such a wonderful overall um experience for everyone in our corporation. So, on that note, I will say um happy almost end of the school year. We are almost there. I know my kids are doing their summer countdown and last couple days, special days of school. Um so, I hope everyone has a very good end of year and a very safe and happy summer. >> Thank you all. Great comments and great uh recognition of awesome people. Tonight was a great night. It's one of the best nights of the year. It's long combination

084awards, which is a good thing. It's it's fantastic to watching all these teachers and these individuals and students. So, what a what a fun night. Um, congratulations to Chris and Allison and Matt. Uh, they've been with us a long time. So, uh, real excited for them to have their opportunity to step up and step into new roles. Real excited to see what they're doing, where that goes. So, and then lastly, I just want to say thank you to everybody in this room. Thank you to our teachers, our administrators, our building leaders. It's uh, it was an interesting year. I I think that's that's the way to put it. It was an interesting school year. Not the easiest, but we are certainly grateful for the love and commitment to our corporation, to our students, as you

085guys recognized just a few moments ago. And um it's felt. And I think when you hear people say, "Hey, I've been here 30 years, 40 years, I think you told me tonight, Dr. Terrell, that there was an individual 50 years, >> 57 years in education." 57 years. That's that's a long time. So that's just incredible. uh just dedication and a care and concern for others. So, we're just so grateful and um I I find it to be an honor to to work with each of you and I find it an honor to serve our community. I really do. It's just an awesome process, an awesome part to be to be a part of this. So, I'm just humbled. That's the word I would use and it's it's a privilege. It's a pleasure to serve. Let's

086make next year even better and continue to on it improve and everybody enjoy the summer. Um, with that being said, uh, did you have a few dates? Did they touch on sorry that's on T, right? >> Yes. really appreciate your help. Okay, with that being said, if uh have a motion to move second by Mr. Warner, all in favor signify by saying I. I carries 4.
