Holly Riley Adam Basquez Emily schaer F hin uh this new opportunity that all of our elementary students have uh to go to stem class each week is off to an excellent start a huge thank you to the work of these seven stem instructors in leadership of Sarah cin our stem specialist also Sarah had a lot of help from Mindy Pearson who's uh one of our high school science teachers who did a lot over the summer to help us build the program uh at the beginning of the year students have been doing a lot of kind of introductory stem typ of activities learning about what engineering is um some digital citizenship lessons um but here in a couple weeks they will be getting into coding uh which we're really excited about so we're just about a
week or two away from those first coding lessons getting going with resch that's called SS that's Mr and I joined a St Class A couple weeks ago um and it was it was excellent to see kind of the problem solving te that the students were going through so stem is off to a great start thank you for the support in that area and really excited to see what happens next uh finally we are approaching parent teacher conference season by the time we have our next board meeting uh we will have held probably close to 4,000 parent teacher conferences at our elementary schools the Partnerships with families obviously are really import it's an emphasis all year long however um during kind of the month of October is really When U we have a goal to have
conferences for 100% of our students and connect with all of those families last year we were just shy of 97% so we will see how close to 100% we get this year it is a very busy stressful time for teachers but it is definitely things happen thanks uh Dr sh just really quick not sure if it'd be feasible at some point just because stem is so new and I mean you hear about it but you don't know sure if there might be a time without interrupting the actual class and that maybe we get an invite for a board member sure whoever might be interested to maybe step into one of those yeah for at least once just to see what it's all about being that it's so new I just think would be kind of
what we've brought to it kind of see it actually in place okay I'll I'll talk to board members and reach out to you sounds good thank you all right thank uh 7.04 director of secondary education Mrs thank you Mr President and board members I wanted to share with you some information about Middle School Ela and in October through December we will be doing a field test with amplify Ela which is a curriculum that our resource review team that met throughout second semester of last year has selected as curriculum that we would like to explore to see if this best meets our students needs and aligns with our vision for ELA learning so we are going to be participating in this field test all of our teachers will be and that ties into our e-learning day
as there's been a lot of intentional and robust planning that has gone into preparing for our e-learning day so that we have very tailored sessions for our teachers so our ELA teachers will be working for a portion of their time on amplify Ela and then we will be working through um our student centered Focus which is something that all of our areas within the Middle School do we're going to be focused on iar checkpoints and essential standards many of the things that Dr China talked about we're going to be looking at item specs blueprints Frameworks everything I learn we'll also be looking at common formative assessments and looking at data we then have specialized sessions for math which we'll be looking at their math Vision as well as I learn checkpoint and unpacking data and
there will be a special session for math that will focus on magma which is a math support resource that we're also field testing to see how that supports student engagement data and um ability to provide instantaneous feedback to students so we're excited about that exploration our science and social studies um teachers will be working on looking at literacy standards and how they can support literacy development using their content and then we have our band chire Orchestra and Encore teachers going to to really share their expertise in creativity Hands-On learning and how they support our focus on attendance and student engagement so we're really excited I have to give a big shout out to Carol lambers Jake Adams and our administrative team for all of the work that has gone into the very detailed lessons and
um agendas that we've created for the 18th and I want to thank the teachers in advance because I know that there will be a lot of Engagement good discourse and professional learning um last two things are I wanted to thank Lynn Aly and our counselors at Crown Point High School on September 4th they held the College and Career Fair and they had over 72 booths of both college and careers where our students and our family members as well as other surrounding schools were invited to attend and students were able to make face t- face contexts get um more information about careers and our college that are of interest to them so I thank them for all of the work and planning and those contacts and Communications that went out that a success and in some

par staff that are have been brought on so they have those skills to help students in those tough situations and then a re reunification Corporation training we have over 85 people who are a ucation team in case we ever have to move students from one building to another and we do that annually with them as well because it's something we don't do but if we ever have to we just want to make sure we're well prepared first two things I mentioned are trained by all of our own people uh who have gone through trainings to be able to do this so Prett proud of having that on staff as well so there's a lot going on on that Wednesday I think all our directors building Lev and of course our teachers and staff will be
