motion by Mr Smith second by Miss Basin all those in favor please signify by saying I I those opposed motion carries 5-0 2.02 terms of the the 2023 2025 cromp Point cromo uh School Corporation agreement with the teachers thank you Mr President uh board members um I'd like to uh uh share in a brief summary some of those terms with you this evening um first like to just thank uh the negotiations team uh on both sides we've had a a really great session this year and we're just excited about this contract and and just appreciate the input provided uh by everybody uh during our entire experience uh speaking directly to um salaries um I can summarize by stating that uh the teachers will receive a base raise this year and next year of $2,000 in

each year in addition there will be a $1,500 stien uh that the teachers have decided to uh be delivered $11,000 this school year and $500 next school year uh in addition the new teacher salary for this school year will be $58,000 and the new teacher salary next year will be $59,000 moving into the area of leave days are some very um exciting things to share in this particular area in our leave section of the contract for this uh for this period we've expanded the use uh for individuals to to tap into their leave days particularly in the areas of family illness uh individuals be able to will be able to use their an unlimited number of benefit days that would be personal days sick days or family illness days to be with their family members

that might have an extended illness in the past uh our folks were not able to use an unlimited number of days but but of this contract they will be we're also opening up the benef uh the benefit day use for adoption uh child birth and Foster leave we'd also like to share that um our cpea leave days that is members of our uh teachers union uh the officers and their designes will have up to 10 days uh leave days annually to be used uh it's for the officers particularly but with the superintendent's approval they can appoint other individuals to use these days as well um and finally in the area of leave uh we'd like to just congratulate and uh with some excitement announced that for the first time ever uh the teachers have uh

organized a sick bank and they will um they've organized and will um administer their own sick Bank uh for their uh all the teachers at Crownpoint Community School Corporation So I myself and others will serve on a committee for that sick bank but they have generated all the language and the forms necessary uh to administer this new benefit uh over the next two years so we're we're really excited about that um in the area of insurance um I know that Mr Reese will be sharing later uh some some details uh regarding uh updated premiums um and and deductibles and whatnot so we'll save uh those comments for for his section later uh this evening um finally uh I'm going to get down to um some areas of stiens for the staff uh for the teachers

we've made some adjustments in some of the stiens that teachers may earn throughout the school year uh we do host our own professional development courses at Crownpoint Community School Corporation um we are going to continue allowing individuals to earn $175 per course when they take those courses after school hours they can earn that rate up to uh three courses uh and we've also uh updated our language for our course Builders uh and that uh those sttip and amounts are updated for year-long courses that they build semester courses that they build or quarter long courses that they build and I believe the last thing in that stiped area would be we've raised our summer school rate to $55 an hour and that was $50 an hour for many years so we've up that one here recently

as well um I guess a final comment will be made in the area of extracurriculars uh We've updated some of our extracurricular uh accounts and that could be in the areas of Athletics and clubs and whatnot uh some of our clubs that were experimental now have their own line they become permanent clubs with us uh We've eliminated some clubs that we just were not getting much traction um and we've done some analyses in the areas of of our Athletics and clubs to make sure that we're remaining we're remaining competitive in Northwest Indiana for the rates that we're uh we're paying our our coaches and Club sponsors so with that I will stop talking and ask if you have any questions for me any questions thank you Arty for all your help in that and everybody

involved in that um 2.03 three any I don't see anybody that's registered for patrons comments on this public clearing item is there anybody that wanted to speak regarding this issue okay uh with that before we close this part portion I will say that we will be the meeting scheduled for Friday morning at 7:30 here on 10:27 is when the board will approve action on this agreement this is just part of the process with the public hearing this evening with that um I will uh look for a motion to close the public hearing and resume our regular meeting second so moved by Mr bastter second Mr B by Mr B ABJ any questions all those in favor please signify by saying I I it was opposed motion carries 5- Z with that item three on tonight's

regular business meeting agenda patrons comments we have one this evening uh Mr Brandon Miller regarding safety Mr Miller first I my address uh no you have it on here and we're good you and you are speaking regarding safety yes and for school or in general for the school C school okay sure so first I'm want to say seems like the Year's going smooth so con congrats to you guys um I got a few calls about John Wheeler um I think like four parents called have called me about everyone within a mile is walking which is cool to me but they're concerned about safety of crossing streets I don't know if this has been addressed yet um but a suggestion was like U crossing guards or something just just uh while they're going around the square

I guess so I don't know if that's anything you guys could look into I don't know if anybody treda you and then um finally is I think it's h hall or H Wing in the high school um I was told the alarms weren't working over there that I guess a class missed like one of the um one of the practice drills because they couldn't hear it go off so I don't know if you know anything about that but I just want to bring it to your attention so that's all I have thank you thank you Mr Miller thank you and typically at uh public uh comments the board does not make comment um I want to just briefly give you a quick explanation about the crossing guard so we are not responsible for placing the

the crossing guards that's with the city um so they're the ones that choose now we have conversations with them and we'll be happy to revisit that with them as far as alarms at the high school um with the construction that's something we're continuing to work through everything there has been approved with the fire marshall or the fire department here in town with their inspections and we're right where we need to be thank you Dr Terell uh item four in tonight's the consent agenda Dr Terell thank you for your consideration this evening we have um 4.01 the minutes of our meetings 4.02 the Personnel agenda as listed and then 4.03 uh the voucher of registered checks as listed as well you've heard the recommendation of the administration for approval of the consent agenda may have a

motion so moved second motion by Mr Smith second by Miss Basin question or discussion on any of those three items there being none all those in favor please signify by saying I I those opposed motion carries 5- Z thank you item five the our action items 5.01 approve the 2024 budget forms and resolutions Mr ree thank you Mr President members of the board tonight I bring for you the four resolutions required to adopt the budgets for the 2024 school year 20 sorry 2024 calendar Year resolution 835 is form four this resolution sets forth the Appropriations levies and tax rates uh that you'd be adopting for the calendar year 2024 resolution 836 is a capital projects planed adoption resolution 837 is the 24 School Bus replacement plan plan that covers the next five years resolution 838

is the 2024 transfer from education to operations that amount is the same amount we've done since that started which is 15% uh with that we can tell you that the budget was posted we held the hearing here on October 13th as required by Statute uh tonight is time for the adoption the last step of the process for you all is tonight with the adoption uh within five days once you have adopted we need to submit all of that to the Department of local government Finance uh while the budget is higher this year it's due to one-time expenditures spending down some cash that we have anticipate the Appropriations and budgets for 2025 we're here our year year from now uh to be quite a bit lower than what they are this year this is a plan

spend down of cash not something that's out of the extraordinary for uh what we've been planning for the important part about that is what tax rate you're actually adopting currently the active tax rate for 2023 is a$1 12891 the average uh the rate we've advertised and you're adopting tonight in form four is A1 12960 uh what we're anticipating we always adopt a little high anticipating Department of local government Finance is going to reduce that we're anticipating a 12833 tax rate so an actual reduction of about 6/10 of a penny uh so even though we have our budgets and levies Appropriations which you're setting night as our authority to spend a little bit higher uh what we do have is a tax rate that we anticipate to be lower uh than the next year which is

what we charge our property owners which I think is the most important part so with that nothing has changed from the public hearing that we held on the 13th so with that we're recommending approval of the 2024 budgets the 24 capital projects plan the 24 School Bus replacement plan and the corresponding forms and resolutions thank you Mr ree you've heard the recommendation of the administration for the approval of the 2024 budgets the 2024 capital projects plan 2024 School Bus replacement plan and the corresponding forms and resolutions may I have a motion second motion by Mr babjack second by Mr basser questions or discussion I just like to I had the opportunity to meet individually with Mr ree last Wednesday and he did a tremendous job of making this simple and thanks for all the work

that you put in Matt um you're it was great I I felt like I earned a couple of college credits uh listening to you for that hour we spent together so thank you for for that made a lot of sense happy to do it any other questions uh we're glad Mr ree decided to come back home here and uh back in the position of our Chief Financial Officer so with that I'll take uh uh all those in favor please signify by saying I I those opposed motion carries 5-0 5.02 health and dental insurance changes Mr ree as Mr K mentioned we do have some changes in our health and dental plans that are Incorporated within our teachers contract those health and dental plans also not only impact our our teachers but the rest of employees

within our school district who decide to take our health and dental plans everybody's on the same plan everybody's treated the same as far as the deductible aut of pocket maximums are concerned uh some important background information I think the public will be interested to know and I think some of you were quite surprised this is the ninth year uh in 2023 that we've not changed our deductibles or our premiums um we've had a couple of bad plan years coming out of of the pandemic um for whatever reason and with that it's time to make some adjustments on our health insurance and dental plans so I'm going to go through a few of those changes here tonight uh inre increasing deductibles currently are deductibles when I give you two numbers the first one is a single

amount the second number is the other three tiers single plus spouse single plus children and the family plans so with that our deductibles are going from 2,000 and 4,000 to 3,000 and 6,000 we're increasing our acket maximums from 2, and 4,000 up to 4,000 8,000 instituting a co-pay between uh the the deductible and the out of pocket maximum at an 8020 uh% we're also inreasing HSA contributions for for support staff from $1,500 to 12250 and 1750 uh making them on par with the Teachers Association teachers contract along with all those changes we're also increasing premiums by 15% uh and obviously changing the board contribution amount for non-administrative benefits um which have' outlined in in your summary essentially we're going from a 80 uh sorry a 90% on the single plan plan contribution by the board

and a 79% contribution in other three plans other three tiers uh going to 85% on a single and a 75% on the other three tiers uh with that we're also in a need to increase our dental insurance premiums by S and a half percent for those in the single plan no change for them still only paying paying a dollar but those in the family plan will see a small increase uh on a per pay amount uh moving forward starting in January of so with that we're recommending uh the changes outlined above uh in the uh health and plan the adjusted premiums deductibles autop pocket maximums HSA contributions and board contributions for the health and dental insurance programs thank you Mr ree youve heard the recommendation of the administra administration for the approval of the adjusted

premiums deductibles outof pocket maximums HSA contributions and board contributions for health and dental insurance programs may I have a motion second motion by Miss Basin second by Mr Smith question or discussion uh before we for approval Mr ree thank you for all your time and all those involved and all of this work behind the scenes to get to this point where we're at for approval of this and once again everybody's aware of all the uh added cost here in today's with health insurance and things like that so I'm glad we could come to a resolution and decision with our um C Point Education Association uh towards all this to make sure minimal uh effects on those that do Workforce here at the school corporation with that I'll uh all those in favor please signify by

saying I I those opposed motion carries 5 Z thank you 5.03 agreement with Garner Health technology Mr Reese uh understanding that there's a uh what I'm going to call a significant increase in built deductibles and out of pocket maximums uh we thought it was important to try to ease the burden on our employees who take our insurance so with that we found a very Innovative partner uh it's a younger company been around for about four or five years they use the Affordable Care Act information uh to come up with how to identify the top 20 doctors in your plan and in your area and by doing that they provide a dollar Ford dooll match if you use those doctors uh with that they have guaranteed us and they incorporate that with a health retirement account

or HRA so we'll pair that with our HSA um they are charging us about 61,000 is the amount of contract for them it's going toost cost about 190,000 for us to um fund the HRA accounts uh it's an important part of this anytime uh an employee on the single plan gets above $1,600 in claims or 3,200 on the family plan they're going to match dollar for dooll uh from their HRA back to the employee uh for the claims from that 1,600 on a single plan up to the new $3,000 deductible limit and on 32 $3,200 up to 6,000 the new dedu deductible limit for the other three tiers we think this is a way to ease that burden and the out- of-pocket cost for our employees even given the fact that we're having these large

uh deductible and out of-pocket increases so with that our total cost for this to them is about 61 62,000 however they're guaranteeing us $450,000 in savings our expected claims reduction due to using these top tier doctors uh we're anticipating Savings of almost a million dollars for our plan uh so we think this is a a good bet to make it's a one-year agreement if it doesn't work out we will stop it discontinue it for the next year we think this is a good Avenue to go and try to redirect some of the behaviors of our employees into working with some top tier doctors so with that we're recommending the approval of a one-year agreement with Garner Health technology thank you Mr ree you've heard the recommendation of the administration for the approval of the one-year

agreement with Gardner Health technology I have a motion motion by Mr Vasser second by Miss basin question or discussion Mr Reese just just to clarify um employees teachers administrators they'll be able to choose a doctor's of choice this just incentivizes them because they get a reimbursement or credit back is that correct correct if they use the Garner app they'll get the dollar for dollar re reimbursement after those minimums they're free to choose their own the doctor who may not be on that list that's up to them uh they can choose to go wherever they want to just if they're not on the list they will not get match that dollar for dooll that'll be additional cost on the just wish to clarify thank you you bet Mr ree I have one quick question is there

any benefit for the corporation if uh we have folks who are using those doctors prior to hitting that 1,600 out of pocket no no other than they'll have a relationship already established with those doctors uh that'll be a personal preference if they want to use them prior to that they don't have to um I can tell you that I plan on using it just because if they've identified over going through over three billion claims and have found that they can have doctors are in the top 20% I'm interested in getting care from those doctors who are achieving the best results thank you I just I wanted to make a quick comment on this um because I think it's a a very creative and valuable way to offer additional value to the employees that participate in

this plan because we're not we could have gone the route or Matt you could have suggested the route that let's just go with hmos and save some money where we're dictating who people are having to see uh but this gives them additional flexibility to choose like value based Physicians and um and it still gives them all the choice to see somebody outside of this network if if they want to so uh I appreciate the creativity to find a way for people to save some money with the with the increases in the deductibles thanks any else with that all those in favor please signify by saying I I those opposed motion carries 5-0 5.04 agreement with boy systems Mr Ree before we head on to the uh the boy systems item I just want to uh

update everybody we'll be doing open enrollment meetings starting tomorrow morning at 6:30 at the high school um those are for obviously employees only uh those who are eligible for our benefits are are welcome to attend we'll be outlining all the changes uh that you've approved this evening laying out all these in a span of about 11 or 12 meetings across the district in the next two weeks uh so we'll get more information out to the employees that way and open enrollment uh with the changes starts November 6th and will last I think through December 8th so about a four-week open and moment period I believe don't quote me on that last date I'm going to double check that one thank you uh 5.04 is uh boy systems uh currently uh we are using a local

vendor for financial software um we've identified uh a new vendor the new vendor uh has uh over 200 districts they work with across the state they are by far the largest provider Market shareholder for school Financial software uh recently they've uh come out out with a new cloud-based system that'll be web based no more green screens no more F function keys uh to maneuver around and doing our finances drop- down menus pre-approved menus will be uh more the name of the game hopefully eliminating uh some errors that happen from time to time as we uh do some data entry um the agreement you have in front of you is for uh five years uh with that fiveyear promise we've capped increases at 6% annually um and working with the uh owners of the company I

believe hopefully we won't see those 6% increases but they're available to us depending on what the economy does uh current implementation plan for this uh calls for an implementation in either April or July um depending on uh how the history data pullover from the current system into the new system uh goes over the next six months uh we have a full implementation plan in place ready to go based upon your approval tonight uh so with that uh we're excited about the opportunity to upgrade our system I think we've been with the current one uh for quite a while at least I the last 25 or 30 years U ready to to move into the next step we've been through some demos with the staff uh this incorporates both the financial side but also the HR

and Personnel side of some different modules uh so we're really encouraged about the um the working between those two systems instead of being modules it's just one system uh that it's all a part of so m ke can speak that if You' like to but in conversations we've had we're very excited about putting our our two departments together on really one system not two separate modules so with that we're recommending a five-year agreement with boy systems thank you Mr ree you've heard the recommendation of the administration for the approval of the fiveyear agreement with boy systems may have a motion second motion by Mr babjack second by Miss Basin any questions from Mr Reese yes Mr ree so the uh the old system was just antiquated is what you're alluding to it it is at

this point we're yes we're ready to upgrade thank you all those in favor please signify by saying I I those opposed motion carries 5 Z 5.05 donation for crpo high school best buddies Mr Reese thank you Mr President we're very lucky to receive notification of a wish to donate to the school corporation and specifically to the Crownpoint High School best buddies club for their operating expenses for their club uh so with that we have a donation uh being requested uh to be given and you to accept of 8,441 made by uh Rick and Bridget Mangan for the cmon high school best buddies Club thank you Mr ree you've heard the recommendation of the administration for the approval of a donation or for from Rick and Bridget Mangan in the amount of $844 for the Crownpoint

High School best buddies may I have a motion motion by Mr Mr Smith second by Mr Vasser any questions or discussion are is that couple present today there are not okay but again our thanks to them is obviously with a a very subsis donation to continue that program and it's an outstanding program so thank you to you again on that behalf all those in favor please signify by saying I those opposed motion carries 5 Z 5.06 appr approval to apply for and receive Grant funds from the Indiana Department of Education K through 12 robotics Grant Mr Hardman yes Mr Hardman may I interrupt for just one moment members of cabinet as you guys come up just make sure that you speak very closely into that microphone so in the back they can make sure that

they're getting what you're saying for the video thank you Mr President members of the board uh this evening I'm bringing to you a new Grant from the state of IND Indiana uh this is per Indiana code uh in the recent legislation and it is called the idoe robotics competition Grant uh which definitely will go a long way to supporting uh those uh Award winners uh in helping their um their schools uh to compete in the robotics competitions I think it's important to note that this grant is not for state or uh International or national competition this is for our local competition uh this grant uh this year uh working with our coaches uh is we're asking for $ 47,4 31. 77 cents and that's going to support their kits and their supplies to compete I

think it's h good for you to note that this is quite an expensive expansive program that we have uh there are 11 teams at our high school 14 Middle School uh robotics teams and 21 elementary school teams uh what we've tried to do with the grant is try to create accessibility and equ quality uh across all our teams uh so you can see uh you can see the differences uh in the amounts of money at the elementary middle and high school is how it's broken down um and um U we hope that we are awarded we expect to hear by November the 6th uh seeking your approval tonight to apply for and receive these funds thank you Mr Harman you've heard the recommendation of the administration to apply for and receive the IND Department of

Education robotics competition Grant funds in the amount of 47 , 43177 for kits and supplies to maintain our robotics teams and participate in local robotics competitions I have a motion motion by Mr Vasser second by Miss Basin question or discussion all those in favor please signify by saying I I those opposed motion carries 5 Z again thank you Mr Harman 5.07 approval to apply for and receive Grant funds from the Indiana Department of Indiana Department of robots for autism Grant Mrs pascus I want to make sure I said that correctly you did thank you uh president Angel members of the board I am seeking your approval tonight to receive the department of EDS robots for autism Grant funds in the amount of $ 51,6 this will include two Ro two robots social skills curriculum and

a professional learning package um this is actually a grant that has been outlined by house bill um one1 and this allows us as um special education departments to apply for this Grant and we had to select 10 students with autism that we would Target for a social skills and behavioral skills um work with the robots we Supply two iPads per robot and Milo and Carver the $16,000 each robots um will be housed at Taft in Wheeler and we will collect data on the robots and um see if we see an improvement in social skills thank you Mr pascus you've heard the recommendation of the administration to apply for and receive the Indiana Department of Education robots for autism Grant funds of $ 51,6 for two robots social skills curriculum and professional learning package may I

have a motion so moved motion by Mr Smith second by Mr babjack question or discussion oh bailing bailing early huh oh I do I have one quick question see is this something that if this goes well because I know you said you were tracking the results which I think is fantastic if this goes well is this something we can apply for each year or possibly add to the program now yep yep and I have seen the robots demonstrated and um it's really pretty amazing so I'm excited and I think our kids are going to love these robots awesome thank you sounds like a great opportunity in program thank you thank you any other questions all those in favor favor please signify by saying I I those opposed motion carries five thank you Mr President board

members um as you know we are beginning the process of making a conversion from Neola to isba policies and after speaking with folks from uh isba last week uh beginning that process so plan on seeing a little bit of this u in our meetings coming up here but this particular collection are a set of policies that we need to update here as we uh roll into the new year so we would consider these U quote unquote somewhat of an urgent batch to get updated here and I'll keep these coming uh at you uh each month but in this particular uh batch we have policy 310 which is the old Neola P policy 3121 this basically speaks to criminal history checks for applicants and contractors we have this policy already uh but some updates to it

it uh talks about a couple of things in specific one being that uh there's a list of uh um reasons uh for individuals why we would not be able to hire them if they've been convicted of certain crimes so these are listed in here for you um in addition if we are represented with more than one type background check for folks that were hiring we want to choose the more rigorous one to keep our students and staff safe um so that's there in policy 310 uh policy 31 speaks to the cycle where every five years all of our employees must go through a a a background check uh so that is there uh as well and that one is O Neal policy 3121 as well um the tag Grant or the teacher appreciation Grant this

is also being updated to ISB a language we've had this policy uh for years but this is now um um been updated to the new isba language and that the TAC Grant basically speaks that each year we'll receive this grants eligible teachers will will receive these monies and there will be a 25% differential between teachers that are highly effective and effective there's no change there it's just uh slight language change from the older policy to the new one so this is an update but it needed to be done and I will give you a little hint we're going to have to do uh we'll adopt that one each year going forward uh early in the fall okay just to make sure that we like that language um another important one is policy 4304 um this

is nea's old policy 55 17.01 it speaks to the definition of bullying uh this is a very important update for us and there'll be some other language in bullying that will be inserting into our suspension policies going forward but we needed to get this one done right away one of the most important parts of this is uh making sure that it is uh cited in our policy due to state law uh that the uh parents of the victim of the alleged bullying need to be uh told within five business days of the report uh so that is now uh here for you uh to take a look at in this first reading and finally uh policy 5051 5051 this is new and this speaks directly to a new law that's coming out January 1st uh

so with our first reading today uh hopefully our adoption in November will be all set to go and this speaks to uh challenges to library media and other supplemental materials this is embedded in our complaints area right now but it needs to be pulled out and needs to stand alone as its own policy and it will now uh under policy 5051 so in summary what I'm requesting this evening is just to have a first reading of these policies okay we'll bring them back next month uh in hopes uh that we get them approved and updated thank you Mr Kiwa as Mr Kiwa mentioned this is just the first reading so what I recommend is uh read through these any questions or that make sure we bring them up for the next before we actually go

through and approve these changes officially next month may I pose a quick question to Mr Ki yeah Dr Teran I already talked about this so I just for public knowledge uh with the library books is a hot issue as you can imagine throughout the country how many have we had in Crown Point that challenges from parents or public so we could hold them on one hand probably most of them are uh they want to review um not necessarily uh requesting any removal if you will but uh we do have a a procedure for folks that want to come and examine any particular curricular area so we can have those materials prepared for folks to come check them out so we we've had a couple of those but um I I don't think think there's been

been more than five and as long as I can remember I think that's great I think it's great that the public has that information yeah Abol thank you for that thank you quick question um you know specifically references School libraries is that include classrooms just Library this this policy speaks to library and media materials that would be supplemental materials that will be found in the library okay okay and and that's what the new state law is is addressing in specific and that's why we've got to pull this language out and so it stands alone um outside of our general complaint policy okay thank you again Mr AA for your work on that okay 6.02 superintendent discussion groups start telling you Mr V or anything from either of our Redevelopment commissions okay thank you two weeks

two weeks okay Mr Smith anything uh nothing that impacts the school corporation thank you from Crown Point thanks all right with that 6.03 director of Grants and assessments Mr Hardman again good to be here and to uh just give you some uh uh feedback we had an opportunity over a fall break uh to give some training to our child care staff um again they're here from six o'clock in the morning till six o'clock at night uh and uh they needed a refresher and CPI and we were very pleased to offer and provide that uh to those uh um caregivers in our uh in our corporation uh Nick China was uh the the the trainer for that uh having been sitting in on the training just the deescalation the strategies the holds uh are things that

are really vital to this group um knowing that they are there they're at buildings that uh when there's nobody else there uh people leave and so it's important that they are able to uh to uh work with the children in in positive ways and yet at the same time be able to uh to have the capabilities to uh uh to to have the holds to be able to help the students to uh regulate so we want to thank Nick we want to thank you for our staff that came in over fall break to be able to do that thank you thank you Mr Harman director of Elementary education Mr China thank you Mr President and board members while academics are you know always at the heart of what we're doing in our schools I want

to highlight some of the meaningful opport unities that our elementary schools have planned and implemented recently in some of these areas uh to help students be successful in school and in life for example uh our elementary schools have planned some activities surrounding bullying prevention uh to help our students feel comfortable safe and ready to learn um this is through stomp out bullying month in October or bullying prevention month uh also our schools have been encouraging some interest and learning about life After High School with different activities towards careers and colleges uh during College and Career go week recently finally we are in the midst of a very exciting time for elementary schools uh one thing we value and prioritize is partnering and collaborating with our families uh for the growth and success of all of

our students uh these homeschool relationships are you know really crucial to the growth of all of our students and uh while this is an ongoing Focus year round over the next week or so all of our elementary uh students uh and parents will be having parent teacher conferences um you know so the the goal is for us to have conferences for 100% of our students um and I can report back later and let you know how we what percentage we got to okay appreciate that thank you Mr Chin thank you director of secondary education Mrs Ramirez I'm going to have to learn now with them coming from the back with the new setup give them a little time to get the mics unless we're just going to have some speed Tri F and see how

quickly we can get up here for the next meeting thank you Mr President board members I just want to take this opportunity to share with you um an upcoming event that I hope you will um consider attending we have the fall musical at Crownpoint High School taking place on November 11th 12th 18th and 19th at 2m also on the 11th 17th and 18th there is a 7 PM showing of Mary Poppins and if you have ever attended a fall U musical or a production by r cphs um theater Department you will by all means know that it will be fantastic and will be a great opportunity so um we encourage you to attend and just want to share with you that this is the first time we are doing the musical in the fall this

will allow those who are in choir and Orchestra to be able to be part of the musical and still be able to participate in isma competitions that happen in the spring so it was a very strategic move to switch those two so that students can be as actively involved as possible so we are really looking forward to this performance and um hope you will join us there on one of those days if your schedule allows also want to share with you another great thing um that has really started to become a tradition and um it just took place this past week on on October 21st at the high school this is the third year that they are doing Cars and Coffee and it happened on Saturday and it's really pretty cool it's a great Community

event former students as well as community members bring in their um vehicles and these can be vintage Vehicles these can be I'll use the term souped up Vehicles I'm not sure if that's what they would call them um however you do see their hoods up showing engines you see people sitting in lawn chairs talking about their cars and so it's really a great opportunity um for our students to raise funds for the auto club but also to bring in community involvement and support so we really um appreciate all those involved in that great event they will do another one in the spring and lastly I just want to commend Crownpoint high school and a successful PS Pat Administration on October 11th and our middle schools will be joining in their PSAT Administration tomorrow so big

um undertaking and success already and look forward to completion of that at the middle schools thank you Mrs Ramirez director of exceptional education Mrs pascus good evening again members of the board I wanted to give you a little background on the Mangan family who uh gave the donation earlier I had some communication with Bridget today and uh they organize a golf outing each summer at Lake of the Four Seasons and the money they donated to us for Best Buddies was just a result of 5050 tickets and basket auctions so um they have four children their three daughters were members of best buddies in high school and one daughter was the president and then their son Kevin has been in our programming ever since preschool so I mean he's an awesome kid I don't know the

daughters but um just a lovely family and when I asked about um how they raised the money she gave all the credit to their friends and family dad has 61 cousins or something that she said Lake of the Four Seasons everyone just comes together and um it's all hands on deck and everyone helps and donates and it's wonderful so some good news you have to make sure if you stay in contact let us know when that event is next year I because we do have some golfers here on the board some better than others I sure I don't know if we'll get a space it sounds like it's it's hard to get a spot okay um also uh I I know we're always looking for more pair professionals it's an extremely difficult position to fill

um and I think we're not the only organization uh experiencing um a lot of coming and going of pair professionals it's a very intense position so um on November 1st we're going to hold an another all day open hiring event um we're going to publicize and invite interested applicants to come here from 8 to 4: anytime there'll be four of us just spread out Holding On The Spot interviews um and then just looking over the last five years um in 2018 2019 there were 79 peras for exceptional Ed five of those peras were in the preschool we now have 121 Paras and 15 of those are in the preschool so there's been a 53% increase just in Paras and about a 27% increase in our count of special education so I mean we are just

Staffing it more so I think that is another reason we're seeing a lot of come coming and going so we're also going to try and support those Folks by starting on November 9th um a monthly training that we're g to call Exceptional Ed University ee so the second uh Thursday of each month from 1 to three we're GNA have at least two people from my team so myself or Kelly o our two Behavior Specialists our two coordinators were designing a training on Behavior disability 101 deescalation techniques communication procedures with families and other staff members um and we will uh hold that once a month and try to give them some more support and background information to help them be more successful that's it thank you Mr Basquez uh where we at oh sorry 6.07 assistant

superintendent Mr G and fer me thank you Mr President board members um just a couple items um the third week in October is National safe schools week and in addition to the anti-bullying lessons Mr Kina mentioned we also are participating in Red Ribbon Week as anti-drug lessons and activities throughout our schools as well as um our individual schools participating in drills uh safety drills practicing our policies and procedures so we just want to thank all our administrators teachers and staff for taking the time to work with our students in those very important subjects and making those programs uh successful and one other item um if you have time this Wednesday evening uh the colonel wheeler band will be performing their annual fall concert I think they call it their Spooktacular all the kids dress up

and uh play a little but they although they do this annually this is the first time they'll be performing that in their new Auditorium so if you have an Aon event there there is an opportunity to attend one at 6:30 Wednesday at the new Colonel wheeler Auditorium that's all I have thank you Mr J ferming 6.08 Chief Human Resource officers Mr Kiwa thank you Mr President uh just a couple of items uh one really fun unique one but I'll start with my staff I just want to go ahead and thank thank Gan Lang uh and Renee Rich in the move over here to central office there was quite a bit of information and files that needed to come over all at the same time uh we had no receptionist to work the front desk so

uh they're answering phones and and unpacking a large amount of material uh for the Personnel department so I just want to just thank them for just keeping the the inertia and operations running so smoothly I also want to thank um there are other support or other support staff members here at central office that took a turn at the front desk um just for redundancy should we have any sort of Crisis or or a need for another individual to be at that front desk to receive calls to to work that front desk we've had uh seven individuals in addition to our staff take a turn uh covering uh in the last week and a half so just thank you to all for helping out with that effort um I I want to add here we had

a well-known longtime teacher named Bill fricky used to teach a Taft middle school ironically uh the building that was almost sitting right where we're sitting right now um he was an English teacher he was also in charge of yearbooks he has brought over and I see Mike in the back over there he brought another box today um but he bought boxes of Olde books dating back to 1958 um and I've got actually first year book in my in my office so we want to make sure we get that over to the new te Middle School in case they have a display case or whatnot but I just wanted to publicly thank uh Mr fricky for taking the kind time to come out and and share those artifacts when you know he may have just ended

up pitching them but but he thought we we'd like to have them here um in our schools um you know for historical purposes anyway so thank you Mr fricky for for making that efforts um and lastly just thanking all of our staff members Mark speaking about safety um just thanking all of our staff members for continuing to work hard on their tutorials that they need to take care of uh for safety um that are State mandated so keep it up CP staff and getting those tutorials finished here this semester thank you very much thank you Mr Kiwa 6.09 Chief Financial Officer Mr ree I apologize my button wasn't working I must have overused it earlier tonight I I I think with with part of that I I have the the lucky opportunity to present many

of those agenda items to you uh on what has become a monthly basis uh the amount of work that goes in behind the scenes uh with the business office staff uh with the the cooperation of the partnership of the the cabinet uh Dr Terell and and Mr gmir and Arty uh as well as the other directors on the cabinet uh it it is uh great uh to be back and have this working environment to get those things accomplished uh I can't thank them enough for this opportunity to come back and and do this I've really enjoyed uh working with the Teachers Association as well through bargaining um it it's been a great uh experience and refreshing um uh opportunity and I I can't thank them enough and I want to thank you for giving me

the opportunity to come back and do that and so while I'm lucky enough to be the one that gets to speak on all those topics it's everybody else that that also allows us to put the work in uh to get that accomplished and I can't thank them enough uh to make that happen so we can lead the district in the right way and putting the money in the appropriate places to educate kids um that common goal is um special here and and I do appreciate it um also with that the amount of work that our buildings and ground staff did to move us into this building uh what was was extraordinary all without a working elevator uh up all 28 stairs not that I've counted in my walking through the building uh but there's 28

stairs between the first level and the second level and uh they got to carry all those boxes and uh up those stairs and I can't thank them enough for that extra work they put in to get that done in the face of uh some adversity uh with that so with all that thank you and thank everybody for getting done I appreciate it thank you Mr ree 6. 610 director of communications Mrs Allen thank you good evening um I have a couple of updates about videos um thank you to Mrs coven's class at MacArthur Elementary who hosted a few weeks ago to film our first super things video with superintendent Dr Terell um we were able to sit in on a class where students were using Matchbox cars to experiment with kinetic energy in collision and

they used some really impressive vocabulary for fourth graders so that video will be um up on our YouTube channel tomorrow um we also just completed a safety series video um it's five videos and they each walk through a different component of school safety specific to our district terminology that we use different processes we have in place and plans that are there it's not always easy to talk about school safety in a way that is informative and not fearful so we were able to use a program that is an animation so it's more like moving infographic style and hopefully it's a good resource for families as they have questions about school safety and then finally um we have a coffee and conversation coming up on Tuesday next week Tuesday the 31st at 9:00 a.m. and we're

very happy to say that we are hosting it here finally so that's some great news so thank you thank you Mr alen uh six 611 superintendent of schools Dr Terell thank you uh just a few things we're very excited this evening to have our first board meeting here in our new uh central office administration Center and uh just again as Ry has mentioned already um the staff and all the things that they endured and packing and unpacking and Mike molaski and his leadership we appreciate that as he got everything over here through some challenges um Mike will tell you he's moved a lot of offices and classrooms this summer and this was probably the most challenging just because of the amount of stuff that we have um also appreciate Dion and his team and their

continued work here not just here but across our district seems like we've been doing this now for years um and we have and we continue to do so but we appreciate their continued work with all of that um want to recognize one thing I need to mention with Ry though and he mentioned the people at the front desk who were willing to put in there if you happen to stop by at the right time you may or may not have caught Mr AO with his uh headset on walking through the hall to go get a glass of water or to drop off paperwork uh yes welcome to Crownpoint schools how may I help you and uh using his radio voice that he uses for our our delays uh many times as well so he did

a leadership by example and taking that time and I doubt you're going to find too many other Chief Human Resource officers across the state of Indiana or any other state who spent time wearing the headset at the front desk so Ry I appreciate you thank you um want to recognize Michelle bunch is here with CPA and um the amount of time that we were able to spend together with negotiations uh felt like we really uh have a great relationship with them I appreciate that Michelle and the leadership with your team thank you um last one and I don't know if you guys are you planing on hitting Athletics yes I got some of it and I think I'm going to I'm going to back off Athletics then all I'm going to say is our kids

are amazing they're amazing in the drama Productions that are coming up at the high school and the middle school levels they're amazing at our Fine Arts and our Athletics as well so uh we've got some of the best to best including the car show and hoods up talking about cool engines uh at at the high school thank you thank you Dr Terrell uh item seven other board business just a quick reminder uh regional meeting at TBL November 8th if you haven't signed up Diana probably needs that yesterday if not before but I'm sure we can still get in do you have anybody's numbers on that Diana okay I I may have to bail myself I will let you know by the middle of this week yeah trust me that's not one I like to miss

attend the uh Indiana school board association annual conference down in Indianapolis so um it was a really great opportunity to kind of network meet other folks from around the state and and sit in on some uh little mini sessions that kind of applied to what we were interested in um but what I have to say was maybe the best little session that we sat in on was from our very own Miss Brooke she did an amazing job out of everything I sat in on and and I'm really not just plating because she's from cromo and she's ours but hers was by far the best that I sat on she gave very specific information for other districts who don't yet have a communications director um or trying to she even had a rubric to help them

identify if they needed one and then gave very specifics for how to go about implementing and putting um putting it into process so she did a fantastic job she partnered with the communications director at Portage and together they were awesome and it really showed me how much um our our folks here in central office are collaborating with other local um corporations and even across the entire state so it was awesome to see thank you Brooke for that um and then thank you for the opportunity to attend in general and then as we hit Elementary uh parent teacher conference week I can say I've lived through that for seven years of being the teacher on that side so from the parents side and the Schoolboard side I appreciate all the teachers who are putting in extra

work to prepare everything make sure they hit all the parents and and try to get that 100% goal um and then thank you for parents making time during your day taking off work to to make sure we hit that 100% goal as well thank you Miss Bas Mr babj anything seing I just would like to thank everybody that was involved with the negotiation process the officers of the um teachers union as well as the administrators that um that led uh that initiative from the school corporation standpoint um it's always I don't know how much um the officers are aware but we get updates of how things are going and everything um and and you've got a lot of advocates for for you guys up here on the board that's for sure so uh seems like

a smooth process and that goes you know that speaks to your guys's leadership both uh in this building and with the teachers union as well so thank you thank you Mr babjack Mr Smith so I'm G to hit this one more time I just so everyone knows and understands it's Mary Poppins this year guys Mary Poppins how cool is that so really want to plug them and push them those tickets are going to sell quick so make sure you get your tickets going to cover some sports um hey we've had a lot of success so volleyball won the sectionals are they going on the Regionals have they played they played regionals lost in oh lost in the regional final to laort after being monster in the morning match all right so sectional final sectional Champions
