Okay. I'd like to welcome everyone this morning to the Cal Central United School District Board of Education special meeting. Today is Friday, August 1st, 2025. At this time, all those able, please stand for the pledge of allegiance. I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Angie, could you do roll call, please? Armstrong >> present. >> Baker >> present. >> Um, that brings us to item D to adopt an amended agenda. Do I have a motion? >> I make a motion. >> I'll second. >> I have a motion and a second. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Opposed. Motion passes. Okay. Item E is the consent agenda includes
personnel, retirement, resignation, recommendations, leaves it absent, and that's it. >> No. >> This time I'll ask for a motion. >> I'll make a motion >> and I'll second. >> I have a motion and a second. Any discussion? >> All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Motion passes. Okay, item F, the report of superintendent. >> We did have one item outside of just personnel issues. I I did want to get in this morning as it relates to our newly formed Decal Virtual Academy. And so we do have a student handbook for that. It is a separate school. We did receive notification uh just u about two weeks ago from the state of approval. I had to send them official board minutes that it was approved by the board before getting the official
approval from the state. So very excited about this opportunity and working closely with uh Mrs. Weissart, Mr. Wagner, and Mr. Lees. Justin's done just a phenomenal job. He's really helped champion this process, and Justin's here this morning. I I do want to reference that. But we do have a a student handbook that is um it is aligned to our high school and middle school handbooks. A lot of the information is very consistent u with it being a virtual only um academy. Uh rare occasions where students may have to come in person for standardized testing. The state does not allow for those to take place virtually. So students will have to attend on occasion for testing. Uh primarily I learn things of that nature. So just looking for the board's consideration to approve the the Decal
Virtual Academy student handbook. um so we can be up and running and I think as we sit here today I think we have seven students uh currently enrolled and I know that process is continuing as schools are reaching back to students that maybe left us to homeschool or other online platforms. So it's encouraging to see that we're already at seven and I I think that number is only going to increase as we get further into the school year. So for the board's consideration >> awesome. Thank you Steve. Do I have a motion? >> I'll make a motion. >> I'll second. >> I have a motion and a second. Any discussion? >> I'm assuming that handbook is online like the other handbooks are. >> It will be once it's approved. We'll put it online and >>
Sure. >> Um the new website that's still under creation that will be launched soon. >> Yeah. >> Just like all the schools have their own >> specific website, the Cal Virtual Academy will as well. >> Sure. Um all those in favor signify by saying I. >> I oppose. Motion passes. Thanks, Steve. Um and that is item G now. Miscellaneous. I'll open up to the board if you have any items. >> School starts next week. Rock and roll. >> Here it comes. >> Good luck. >> Committee meeting is next Thursday. For what meeting? >> Foge >> operation. >> Oh, >> yep. >> August 7th. >> Yeah, >> that's a six o'clock. >> 6 pm. >> 6 p.m. right here. >> Yep. >> I did want to just reference we may have uh presents online and certainly
as a reminder for everyone, Monday and Tuesday, those are our first two staff days. Um we did have to kind of flip some things on traditionally what is our opening day. We have a a guest speaker joining us to kick us off on Tuesday, August 5th. Certainly, everyone's invited uh to attend uh in the high school in the auditorium. Brian Mendler uh will be delivering our keynote address um first thing in the morning. Doors will open at 7 a.m. We'll get started right around 7:30, 7:45. Um big thanks to our food service team. They're going to provide a a quick grab and go breakfast that's appropriate for the auditorium. We don't want to create a huge mess with biscuits and gravy and all the fixings. So, uh they've been great to work with um to
provide a breakfast for our staff coming back. But that's going to be an exciting day. I think uh I think people are really going to uh connect with Brian and when we listen when we hear his story, what he went through through his education and and where he's at now in life and the the the message that he has to share is I think going to be meaningful for us in in the world of public education. So looking forward to that. Monday is our first day back for staff, but all of our staff, they're starting back in their buildings. The the principles, the directors are having their building level meetings. Typically that would happen the second day, but since we flip-flop, we're flip-flopping everything on Monday and Tuesday. And then of course our kids come
back on a Wednesday, which is a delayed start, kind of easing them back in, but also that delay will add some uh challenges um knowing that we're starting our first day with that delay. So we are doing a lot of communication. Of course, Danielle Majer, transportation director, is uh getting all the transportation requests and the routing uh completed so that the buses will be ready to roll on Wednesday. >> Exciting. >> Yeah, another year. >> All right. Anyone in the audience have anything? Thank you for being here. So, >> all right. Um well, that brings us to the adjournment of our meeting. Um before we adjourn though, I will mention that our we do have an executive session following this meeting and our next regular board meeting is August 19th, 2025 at 6 o'clock p.m.
here at central office. This time I'll ask the board for a motion to adjurnn. >> I'll make a motion to adjurnn. >> I'll second. I have a motion and second. Any discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I meeting adjourn. Thank you. Have a great day.
