God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. So, we wanted to go ahead and get started this evening and uh before we got into patron concerns, just kind of give everybody an update since we know that the um you workers association's been joining us. Um just give an update on the custodial outsourcing we've done. Uh we did um post our request for proposals on the corporation website as well as send it to the Princeton Clarion for publishing. Um we have not uh received any bids yet. Um so we did do our pre-bid meeting last Thursday afternoon and did the walkthrough with four companies uh that came in. Um and u the bids are due this coming Friday. Um it will be sealed bids that we'll be receiving Friday afternoon and
then we'll be opening those bids on Monday at 2 o'clock here in this room. We will make that a not a school board meeting but we'll make it at a public session so public can attend and we will also live stream it um through our YouTube channel just so that everything is transparent and everyone can see that the board uh will not be taking um any decision making on those bids until after they view that on April the 13th. And so probably if we would even take any action on those it would not be the May board meeting just so that everybody's aware of that. Uh we want to be very transparent. So at the April meeting, uh we would report back to the community um what what came out of those bids and the
cost and everything. Um so does the board have any questions about that this evening? Okay. We just kind of wanted to make that aware to everybody to keep our public um connected of what's going on and with that situation. So there you go, Mr. President. All right. Any concerns this evening? >> And I will say that we're going to keep the three minute limit that we always use. >> And uh it we appreciate everybody that's here from the union. We've heard from you. Um the law requires us to allow patron concerns on agenda items. This is not on the agenda tonight. The union issue other than the update that was provided to you. there's no action being taken by the board. So, if you're here and plan on talking about that, uh we would respectfully
ask that you save that for a future meeting. Specifically, a meeting in which the boards vote if they do in fact put it to vote eventually. >> We actually have clarification from the superintendent on >> you. You have a question you're wondering. I clarify. So, what what did you what is it that you want clarified? >> I'm really Um and on behalf of my members in this area here, I just wanted to understand that uh the specifics that you're asking for that that's what's on the the uh portal that uh you posted. >> Yes. Yes. >> Okay. Uh is there when does the public become aware of who the biders are? >> They will receive that information at the April board meeting. >> The April board meeting. >> Yeah. that will want to be publicly
announced, but you can actually be here next Monday or you can watch the YouTube channel because we will open the bids on Monday. >> Well, thank you. That's very helpful to know that. I think that's about it. And then >> your opinion is more than likely that if you would want to take action, you wouldn't be taking any until your May meeting. >> Correct. Yeah. Okay. And since Tim is here with us this evening, right? And I emailed Tim this afternoon to set up dates to actually negotiate with him on the current contract so that we would have that ready to go simultaneously. So we are setting up dates to begin those negotiations. I think that's kind of >> Mr. Yes. >> Uh Steven of Somerville, Indiana. I did have an order. It wasn't just
this topic that I wanted to bring up. Of course, sure. We're here to ask you to please our brothers and sisters, but one of the things I wanted to bring up been a member of the union over 50 years involved in politics and we have always supported public education. You know, you guys are the double standard. you take everybody. You're you're our community. And so we've done a lot. I know I wrote email letters over the years public education and I'm sorry to see sometimes what happens to you. So that that's part of my message. And then the other part is I don't know how many times I've been to rallies for the teachers because their way and so I just want to say I've been to a lot of those and and I'll continue
because I've been around long enough to know when teachers took money out of their own pockets so the kids could have and it was sad. So that's more of my message. Thank you for >> anyone else. >> Is this about the Is this about the uh maintenance custodial contract at all? >> No, I just clarification on the time. You said next Monday they're going to open. What time is that? >> 2:00 p.m. in here. In here in this room. >> Anyone else? >> Is it about the custodial contract? >> Is this about the custodial contract? >> Uh, yeah. Well, I'm sure it is. >> Well, we're we're not going to take comment on that tonight other than those >> under my name is Dennis Wolf. I live in Somerville. Anyway, I just want to know
the current contract in now, will that be up in June? >> That's correct. Yes. >> Okay. That's under the contract. And uh under the contract you guys negotiate, do you put out a list of both sides on the coming in to get the bid. >> Well, yeah. Not the ones that are going to put in under current contract in June. You say the current contract now is up in here. Correct. So, negotiate that ahead of time. >> We just we just announced that we're going to be negotiating that. dates to negotiate a lot of underriv. >> We haven't either. You know, that's what you guys get paid in big bucks for the pay. We like >> that's why we got to look out for you guys paying the big bucks. >> You hear I'm coming
from >> Y. Anyone else? >> Agenda item. >> All right, we will. We're going to transition to the board business at this time. So, public comment opportunity has passed. Please hold comments for talking with these board members outside of the meeting. Let us conduct the business to the agenda from here. >> All right. You've all had a chance to look over the minutes for last meeting. Any questions or comments? If not, I need a motion to approve. >> I'll make a motion to approve. >> We have a motion. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> All those in favor say I. You also had a chance to look over the treasury report and claims for the February meeting. Any questions or comments? If not, I need a motion to approve. >> Motion motion.
Do we have a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor say I. >> I turn the meeting over to Dr. >> Thank you, Mr. President. underneath the O business. Um last month we brought forward consideration um of the quotes uh received the replacement of the lower bleachers in the Wood Memorial High School gymnasium. As I shared at that time during our summer inspection this past summer, um those bleachers did not pass inspection due to the rollers. And to replace those rollers was going to be the cost of $81,000 and we would still have 60 year old bleachers. And so Mr. Uh Marshall and I discussed um the replacement of those bleachers. Um I believe Mr. Sevilla as well as Mrs. Row accompanied me over to North Posey to take a look at the BSN
bleachers which is the lowest bid. Um and so this evening I want to give quick really quickly a a rundown of those bids that we received. And these are pretty well the leading companies in the area. Uh Mr. Marshall contacted the schools to find out what bleacher companies we have. BSN for a bid for replacement of just the bleachers. The cost of the bleachers 172,000 for demo and installation of the old bleachers 60,150 for a total cost of 232,150. Lead company the cost for the replacement of the bid of the bleachers was 279,42353 divleers is 33,97749 for a total cost of 313. 4102 tobine Enterprises did not break down their bid. They gave us just a total cost of 210,86 for that. Um on the demo of the old bleachers, the reason why I broke
that out for you is in talking to Steve Rooden. Um we feel like that our custodians may be able to u demo those bleachers um and get us some additional cost savings. The other thing is that would give us the opportunity to just uh scrap out the metal, possibly even sell some of the wood to bring money back into the operations fund and then also allow us to paint that wall behind the bleachers, do some cleaning before we have the installation of the new um I'm going to turn it over to Mr. Marshall now um to kind of share a little bit more, but Jeremy, can you also tell me on that 6150? I know the BSN that included both demo and installation. Did we get those broke out of what the installation cost was
just going to be? from oil from Texas. He's giving me that price. >> Okay. >> I didn't ask for that because of that portion of it to break it to demolition. So, he's giving me that. >> Okay. Great. >> I'll go ahead and let you turn it over to you and give you any information additional. >> So, the retractable system again, I brought Drew Neil with me. He is our current BSN rep. These are your typical standard 10in seats, 24 in spacing, row spacing, which is going to be 828 seats per side on the lower section. >> What do we have now? >> I don't know exactly what we have now. I know we will not be losing any space on the bottoms. We have the color seats, the swatches, those things are coming into
us now. We just reached out to them. They are in the mail, the color samples. So, color that we're looking at is our school color to replace those. So that's the plastic color that we're looking at for those. The brand is called RSL Kodak seating system which is in line with the other brands like Hussy which is another top brand that you see a lot of schools using. Um there are other schools in the area that do have or the RSL product. Um so being one of them and we have toured it. We've looked at it. We've gotten their opinions on how they feel that it functions and they are very happy with the product. Um it is electric so it's going to save a lot of work on our staff members who are pulling
those out and pushing those back in. Um the start date on those they have about a 10 to 12 week start period. So once we tell them we approve it and it's good, they can in 10 12 weeks they'll start putting that into manufacturing and getting them ready and to get them shipped and get them here on site to be installed. So um the warranty is as we talked and you know the 5year warranty that goes along with it and another school is another local system for their high school as well. But uh I will the time working with BSN and it's been it's been a positive we have good relationship and I'm confident it's going to be a smooth transition and excited for what it's going to look like in the gym. Is there
any way we can get a computer sketch of or rendering of what the I mean whether they're going to be green and gold every other one green and gold maybe a picture of that and then maybe all green. >> Yeah. So yeah. So the idea is on the bottoms you know we'll keep the standard green color the school color grading the upper section when we get to that point we will be looking at doing the uh the Vegas school color with a shadow to give you I think the only color green and gold every other one green to a gold green gold >> are you talking about on the bottom >> on the bottom and then maybe one with just all green >> we have the flexibility we want those seats on the bottom which
is nice Each one of those panels is individual. So if we wanted to do green and gold every other one, we could. We want to do solid green all the way through. Typically what I've seen other schools, it's a solid color, but we do have that flexibility and option to do anything. >> What does the foot look like? >> Uh the good thing about what I like about this product, so that the foot area you see is just a wood. These have a rubber coating over top of it which is going to process will be much easier. Spills as you know that happen in the gym. So the foot area is made out of wood, but it does have a I would call a a rubber type coating over top of it that I think
can clean up a little easier as well, but it won't have like it won't be like a a sand type surface on top of that. We want to vote on everything but the 60,000. We really >> can't unless you want to go about to exceed 232,50. I don't >> think >> Oh yeah. off of our concrete bleachers there. So >> I want to make sure that it's exactly the same as the top was >> the concrete because I >> too many horror stories about these >> right of course what you see now we have a tripping hazard anytime we want to put the bottom step on there and so that's something we have so once we get this approval there's only rendering and we are going to have discussion and talks about how we want
this until we are agreeing on the rendering and they will go all the way to the bottom of the step. It won't exceed the 78 in code stand or whenever you're stepping up and stepping down unlike what we have now areas where you have handicap seating as well in our hand for people in wheelchairs as well. >> Yes. Sorry. tops the tops. But yeah, these will not have a we call an additional step down. It's going to be just like >> who comes in and measures all of that? because there were there were some questions at North Posey that they things that they would do differently >> and just want to make sure that we have that measuring done to our specific and that's once we say we're okay with this and it's approved then
the rendering drawings will start and that's when we start looking at those and approving those renderings and They will continue to modify those rivers until we are satisfied with what those look like. >> Okay. You said it's a once we once we Okay, it's a 10 to 12 week start to do it >> before they can start because then it goes into manufacturing >> and delivered on site. So, it's going to be 10 to 12 weeks of them getting it built, designed, put together, and then their inst How long will that take? >> They tell me they can have it all installed within week. >> Okay. >> The warranty, what all does that cover? Greg has everything to motors. >> It's my understanding too going forward lecture inspecting those company inspecting those. So just let
you guys know those inspections are required. So we will continue. Okay. So I need a motion to approve these. These will be the operations fund not to exceed 232,150 and our recommendation is the motion. Motion >> second. Have a second. Any further discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I oppose the same. I hear it. Next up this evening along the same lines as Jeremy kind of alluded to BSN. Uh we were with ENI Sports as our sports equipment provider and they have gone out of business and so we have moved over to BSN and our rep is here this evening. Um Jeremy, do you want to say anything on the rewards program? >> Yeah, I'll just touch on it just briefly. Um, so of course EI was bought out by VSN. BSN is
a large as a sports equipment provider that gives us access to all kinds of sports equipment. Um, one of the things with BSN, they do provide not just sports like we were locked in before we were with Under Armour or even Nike. BSN does have a product line which is a value product line which gives our student athletes or sports opportunity to a little a good product but a little less value than what some of our higher brand provide. Um with this we do have discounts provided and Drew has been great to work with to help negotiate some prices to make it affordable for some of us and our athletes and things that we have bought. Um I think I've shared some of the the information that we agreement we looked at. It is a
rebate type system where we get a percent athletic program that we can use to help support our athletes in other ways. So not only do we get a discount on the product, we also get a rebate that comes back to us depending on the amount that we spend per year ranging from 6% back 5% to 4% and then there is a 4% based on capital projects that we have as well reinvest into our program and then turn reinvest into our students. I need a motion to approve the BSN sports rewards program contract. >> I'll make a motion. >> Have a motion. Do I have a second? >> Any further discussion? >> How many years contract is this? >> We're not like sports. So basic agreement that we will have. >> So the EI sports one
is void now starting. >> Any further questions? All those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> Oppose the same. If you remember correctly, um, back in September or Nove or October, I made the board aware that we received a safe schools healthy schools grant or safe schools secure grant, secure schools grant for $92,500. It was a matching grant and we used a lot of our current expenditures such as our school counselor to match that grant as well as our school resource officer. Um we um worked with the Stephen group to write do a request for proposals for exterior doors. We received two um bids that came in from Kesh and Seaffort or Super Construction. Um Superford is actually the winning uh bid this evening. Um actually the price came in much lower than
what we expected. It was at $60,100. So we are going to have some additional doors uh fitted with seers going forward. Um so this evening we bring forward um for your consideration um seer construction to complete exterior door replacement at the cost of a total of $60,100 this summer. This will be replacement of one two three four five six five doors five doors at this time. So um so I need a motion to used them in the past to my knowledge. So we haven't used kh in the past but they come recommended >> stepping out the room. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Step another way. They will still be our they will oversee the work as well through this process too. >> So you've not seen the quality of the doors. >> It will be the
same quality as the ones we we installed last year. the specs are the same. Um because we wanted all the doors to match. We didn't want anything to look odd or anything like that. So, >> okay. I need a motion to approve that. >> I got a motion. Do I have a second? >> Second. >> Have a motion and second. Any further discussion? Any other questions? All those in favor signify by saying I >> I say that carries 5. Um, next up this evening, you have a 2026 preliminary school summer school proposal. Um, I will as I will share with the board that uh, this year the state is doing this a little bit different. Uh, we usually have to submit preliminary costs prior to spring break. The state is not asking us to do
that this year. They're going to be funding differently. They're funding based upon a per student and per course funding formula. We are not aware of that funding formula yet. is going to be forthcoming in the next few months. Um, but we still wanted to go ahead and bring forward our preliminary school summer or summer school proposal for board approval. Um, so we bring that forward this evening. I need a motion to approve that. >> I'll make a motion to approve. >> I have a motion. Do I have a second? >> Have a motion and second. Um, any further discussion on that? >> Uh, will we have opportunity to agree with what the state offers us. I mean, or is this is that embedded in this? In other words, you said we're going to get information
from the state. >> Yes. Yes. So, what will happen is is the board usually approves at the May board meeting what we are exactly going to offer. Okay. >> And at that point in time, we should have the funding formula from the state, >> but we'll have to approve it again. we will have to approve it again. In the past, you only got funded and and we weren't even 100% funded, right, >> from the state. We only got funded if the class had 15 or more students. Actually, it had to be an average across all of your classes, 15 or more. So, um so like for example, our credit recovery classes, we may have had one teacher that was teaching several classes in credit recovery, but it added up to be a 15 student average.
So, we will see what the budget or what comes out with that. Um, as you saw in your proposal, we have kindergarten jump start. Last year, we did not do that. We didn't have kids sign up for that. I was interested in that, but we still throw that in just in case we have the numbers to support. Any further questions? >> Have I asked for a motion yet? >> I couldn't remember if you had asked before or after the motion. this time. >> Okay, I have a motion in second. All those in favor signify by saying I >> oppose the same. >> Okay, that curious 5. >> Um, we are back. Believe it or not, it seems like once we get one budget done, it's time to start on the next budget. And we have
the 2027 budget calendar in your packet this evening. This will be Mrs. Salman's first budget, so no pressure on her. Um but uh but anyway, we we're excited um to be um starting the 2027 budget cycle. Um as you know, Dr. Harmon, Brian Harmon, assist us with our budget annually and so we are already scheduling when to meet with him in July. There are some changes this year. The gateway system where we enter our budget is going to be changed a little bit. Um and then as always, our great legislators made a few changes on how the budget's going to be done. So we will see how that But anyway, the 2027 budget calendar is there. It's pretty well consistent with what we've done in the past. Um, and it just mainly is corresponding dates
for this coming year. So, I need a motion to approve the 2027 budget calendar. >> I'll make a motion to approve. >> I have a motion to approve that. Do I have a second? >> Second. >> A motion and second. Any further discussion? >> All those in favor signify by saying I. I >> oppose the same activ. Okay. Next up, we have the 2728 school calendar for consideration. Um, we I've tried to since I've come in work out two years. I know a lot of families now plan their vacations, book c book their condominiums and those kinds of things. And so we've tried to stay out two years with with our calendar. So this is for the 2728 school calendar. Uh we also work closely with our two Gibson County other Gibson County school corporations
and also look at the EDSC since we have kids that go down to sick tech um pretty well. We have corresponding dates um as I we did work closely with the teachers association and one of the changes in the calendar this year in 2728 will be we're going to move down the fall break one week but it's currently about a week before the end of the grading period. we move it down now, it will be at the end of the grading period. So, so that's a little bit about 2728 school calendar. Beyond that, everything else is corresponding dates. Um, we bring that forward this evening. I need a motion to approve 28 school calendar. >> I'll make a motion to have a motion. Do I have a second? >> I'll second. >> You have a
motion and second. Um, any further discussion about the 2728 calendar? All those in favor signify by saying I >> and oppose the same. Okay, that passes 5 as well. Next up this evening, you have some facility requests. Um our pickle ball group that has been meeting um in our gymnasium has asked to add an additional day of Wednesday um on you know to use the old gym for the pickle ball group. In addition to that, we had a from the Miss Sweet Corn Padet. It is their 60th year for the sweet corn page. And so this is for their little miss sweet corn competition. So >> I've got a question about ahead. >> We've got we've got the uh I don't have a problem with it. >> We've got one name on this list. I'm
not We don't >> everybody's name everybody. Okay. Okay. >> I know everyone signs in when they come in but signing in and signing one of these would be different. >> You can put on the put something like this in by signing. Okay. But let's also separate form for each participant. >> Okay. We'll do that. >> So we will pull that this evening. Oh, good. Okay. >> Oh, they can go ahead and do it. >> Whenever they come in to sign in, >> I don't have a problem with them going ahead. >> No. Is this going to start like immediately? >> They've already been I don't know if on Wednesdays they've not been playing >> on Mondays. >> Yeah, we did. We did it way back. >> Way back when. But now there just want another
day. >> Another day. They're getting their exercise in. >> They are. Let's Let's get their uh one of these. >> Okay. So, Danny, did you understand that minutes? Okay. Just want to make sure. >> Okay. Motion. Do I have a second? >> Second. >> Okay. I have a motion and second. Any further discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. >> Oppos the same. Thank you. I'm getting old, guys. Don't be down there playing pickle ball. >> I'm not. I'm not. So, all right. Next up, do you have personnel recommendations this evening? Um, I would like to point out one. Mrs. Light is retiring as our elementary music teacher at the conclusion of the 2526 school year. And she's been here for many, many years. We appreciate her service. oration and what she does
for our kids. Uh, you know, she's done a fantastic job and we wish her the best in the next phase of life. I also want to notify the board this afternoon. We want to make sure you were aware of the walk-on resignation of Brian Spinover as the Wood Memorial Varsity basketball coach. Uh, we thank him for his service as well to Wood Memorial High School and um had a great game Saturday night. to come out with us on top rather than northeast boys, but it did not. But we wish him the best and and as he stated in his resignation letter, he still wants to be involved with wait room and and uh you know still cares very much about his school and so we appreciate that and bring forward that this evening. So that's
your personnel packet. I need a motion to approve all those items. >> I'll make a motion to approve >> and motion to app I have a second >> motion second. Any further discussion? All those in favor signify by saying I. Oppose the saying. Okay, that carries. So, um, superintendent report um just a couple of things in my report this evening. Um, we have scheduled uh with site logic um our architect meetings. scheduled site logic to visit Orleans School Corporation on Thursday, April the 2nd at 4:00. This is for the board. I can we'll schedule a working session for you to attend and visit that um that area. We're working still working with PSG to schedule something with Bedford. Um we are scheduled to be there at 4 o'clock. I believe it's like an hour and
a half drive. So um just kind of let me know. >> Is that Eastern time or central time? >> That is Eastern time. So Yep, that's Eastern time. Um, so just be aware of that. Um, custodial staff outsourcing, we talked a little bit about that. Uh, the stay safe, speak up. Uh, Mr. Barkley and I completed training on that. Um, and we'll be working with admin team to get that started. The Unite GPS, just kind of give you an update on that. That is an organization that sent us a just kind of a flyer back earlier this year saying that they they would complete free of charge an optimization of our bus routes and so I thought why not let's see what they could say and so we sent that over to them and so
they're working through that of course there it is a sales pitch you know um but part of what they can do is is that if we would choose to go with like transportation software they could actually on an iPad if we had a substitute driver lay out the route for that person so so there's some positives with that but um we'll see they have me and really quite honestly they're fairly reasonable for what they offer and stuff. Um but since our contracts are coming up next year, this was an opportunity for us to kind of see what what can we get, you know, what what does it look like? So um superintendent study council um just kind of want to make you aware of this because this is kind of unusual. Eric Gogggins serves on
the department of education uh round table with Dr. Jenner and unusual situation or unusual topic came up this past month and brought it to the study council. China and Russia has made very specific threats towards school corporations and really hacking the data and stuff. Um and it was it was Dr. Gogggins said it was a very unusual discussion. Um it wasn't just kind of like a passing conversation. There was a lot of talk about it. Um and it really um even afterwards after meeting several superintendents talked about um the oddity of it and how um much the department stressed this. So um as always we are looking at this and making sure that we are secure. Um but is definitely something that they pointed out to us. We also received from the Department of Education
a waiver for the January snowstorm because it was a state of emergency. We only Monday, we got two days and so we will be able to go back to the original calendar of having Good Friday and Easter Monday off barring any snow storms or ice storms between now and spring break. So just kind of want you to be aware of that. The other thing is Mrs. Cruz and I attended the exchange on Wednesday, February 18th. This was an event that was sponsored by ERC, the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership, and invited businesses, schools, and higher education to discuss the new diploma pathways. Um, the interesting thing was was as as we shared with the board, all of our students beginning with this year's freshman class have to complete a workbased learning experience. Um, they shared in
that meeting that there were 144 students, was I right on that? 144,000 students. >> I don't know the exact number, but it was it seems that >> I think so. I think they said it was 144,000 students within the area that E-Repp covers that was going to need placements. And so that shows you how daunting of a task this will be for our kids to have that experience. But anyway, uh we appreciate that they were at least having the conversation and beginning to share with our businesses what what's facing us with this department. That is my report. Mr. I did have a question on your report really quick. You've been mentioned working with Ignite GPS to currently route the bus routes. Maybe Mr. Road can answer that. What is the current way that we route
our bus routes on everything that we have? Is this like old school log where it's just all addresses? >> Got is there a way that we currently route everything? Is it like note cards that each bus has or what's the current system? So currently it's based on um the last bus where it goes by county road and then we have the most current up toate routes like handdrawn on maps and the bus drivers will bring in like updates if it's like radically different. They just added like a block or you know turn around they won't bring in additional map just for something small but it's it's based on the the bus and then handdrawn maps. >> Why we really want to electronic because Google driver to >> Mrs. Lee. >> Me? >> Yeah. >> Okay.
Um, we had not the greatest month by saleswise, but it was good. We had a fun things for the kids. We did a big Valentine's Day thing. Um, but this come this month right here that we're in, we have some exciting stuff. The National School Breakfast Week is going on right now and we have some competitions happening. So, that's pretty fun. But, everything is looking good. We're cruising to the next year, but we are me and Christy work together to uh submit our survey for next year. We're getting our fresh fruit and vegetable um application in and also our renewal with air. Me and Chrissy have been working on that stuff kind of teaching her the way of everything and got a good system going right now. So good. >> Thank you. >> Okay. So
