It's probably living in the attic, I bet you. All right, if everybody will stand for the pledge. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Heavenly Father, Lord, so thankful we can come and do the school's business. Tonight, Lord, just we make the right decisions for the students, the staff, our whole community. Lord, we're just so blessed with with being here in this Eastern Green community. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Okay. I call the meeting to order at 6:00 30 p.m. Why don't we do students of the month last this month? Oh, that's a That's a mean look there. Okay, uh Uh Miss Quigley, would you like to start? Sure. We'll
start with elementary. So, for elementary tonight, we are going to recognize some huge achievements we had with our recent I I Read test. So, that's the test that we give to our second graders and our third graders. Um so, I'm going to start with Bryson. Bryson's going to come on down first. This is Bryson Sherfield. You're going to turn around while I brag on you, okay? Can you stand more towards the center so everybody on camera can see you better? So, Bryson has been recognized for student of the month because he made some incredible growth this year with I Read, increasing by 85 points. IN ADDITION TO THAT, HOLD ON, YOUR TEACHERS HAVE MORE things to say. They said that this passing score is a testament to your perseverance and commitment. Beyond this achievement, he
continues to demonstrate meaningful growth in the classroom every day. His strong work work ethic, positive attitude, and dedication to doing his best make him truly deserving of this recognition. So, congratulations, Bryson. You're super All right. Up next, Hannah Price, come on down. This is Hannah Price. Here you go with your Turn around, smile, and let me brag on you for a minute. Miss Hannah is in second grade, and she scored a perfect score on her I-Read this year. So, congratulations. Her teachers were super proud because in addition to this incredible accomplishment, um this is just a reflection of her dedication and her love of learning. But, she comes from an educator, so that could be why, right? Are you going to be a teacher someday? Maybe? Okay, very good. Um Hannah gives 100% in everything
she does. She is a strong problem solver who perseveres through challenges both academically and socially. She is also a wonderful friend to everyone around her, showing kindness, curiosity, and positivity every day. Hannah truly makes the classroom a better place, and we are so proud to celebrate her success tonight. So, congratulations. Good evening. We will go ahead and do our middle school awards. I have two for tonight. Um first, Grady Flynn. Is Grady here? There you are, Grady. Come on down. Good job. Grady is a model seventh-grade student who consistently demonstrates the qualities valued most at EGMS. He approaches his work with responsibility and diligence, completing assignments thoughtfully and on time. In the classroom, Grady is a res- is respectful to his teachers and consistently shows kindness and consideration toward his peers, helping to create a
positive and welcoming learning environment. I would agree with that. What truly sets Grady apart is the genuine effort and care he puts into his education each and every day. He takes pride in his work, he remains focused on his goals, and he strives to do his very best even when it's challenging. His positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to growth make him a standout student and a wonderful example for others to follow. We are so glad that Grady joined us as a Thunderbird this year. Miss Ella Fuller, come on down. Thanks, Ella. Ella Fuller is a student who exemplifies both excellence and integrity in all she does. She brings a strong natural ability to her academic work, but what is most impressive is her commitment to continually challenging herself and putting in the effort
to remain at the top of her class. Ella does not rely on talent alone. She approaches each task with focus, discipline, and a genuine desire to learn. Beyond her academic success, Ella consistently demonstrates kindness and respect in her interactions with others. She contributes to a positive classroom atmosphere through her thoughtful behavior and considerate nature. Her conduct is consistently outstanding, and she approaches each day with a positive, motivated attitude. Congratulations. All right. Good evening. We'll start with Misty English. Congratulations. All right. So, our first student of the month is Misty English. Misty was nominated both for an outstanding academic career and simply being a fantastic representative of the EPHS community. Mr. Zapata has noted that she is a creative person through and through. Not only is she talented artist, but she is also an amazing poet
and writer. Similar In a similar fashion, Mr. Atkinson noted that she has been a bright star in the Eastern family since the first day of her freshman year, and this honor is well deserved. It has been an absolute joy and privilege to have such an amazing student and all around excellent human being at being as a student. Mr. Atkinson is also eager to see her continued continued development as a talented author. Uh we thank Misty for being an exemplary and contributor to and member of our Thunderbird community over her four years. Uh and I have I have not heard your writing, but I know your art, and it's absolutely beautiful. So, uh congratulations. >> THANK YOU. UH ALL RIGHT, MR. CRANE. SPEECH. Uh first off, on a personal note, I absolutely love your kid. He
is amazing. I've had him in the office for the past 2 years, and there is not a day that I am feeling feeling poor. I don't walk out of that office feeling just happy had to have seen him. So, um he has that type of personality. So, uh absolutely amazing amazing kid. Our next student of the month is Mr. Cooper Crane. Cooper has been an amazing consistent participant in all EGHS has to offer including advanced academics, athletics, the arts, and service organizations. Mrs. Birch notes that Cooper is a well-humored, charismatic leader. He can work with anyone in groups, is a creative artist, and problem-solver. He also works well with younger students in instructional situations. Similar Similarly, uh Miss Miss Rupert describes Cooper as a student who you can depend on and who others know will
always be there when needed, which is truly embodies what it means to be a kind human. We should also mention that Cooper is a two-year office cadet, and while we are excited to see what he does next, we will miss his contributions to our daily experience greatly. Congratulations. Wait, first off, let's have one more round of applause for all of our We do invite the families out in the hall area for some pictures with your administrators. Uh you're more than welcome to come back in for the meeting, but do not feel like you need to stick around. Um so, yeah, thank you for coming and uh congratulations once again. It's okay. See you later. Hi. It's all yours now. See, I had a way to keep them. Y'all shut me down. No, I didn't. I
saw the one where you got it. No, see, I was going to keep them till the end. We'd have an audience. Yes. >> All right, do you want to hear construction updates? I can do that. We'll start with the Start with your low slope roof. Um we're about 40% complete on that project. So far everything's gone really smooth. Your decking underneath is in better shape than we originally thought it was, so that is really good news. Especially for how many roofs we tore off already. Does that save us money? Kind of. Doesn't cost you any more money. Did it help protect the contingency with that part of the Yep, we've not uh we've not opened a new one contingency amount so far, which is really good. Uh shingle roof we are about 85% complete on
the shingle process and install. They're going to start the metal panels next week with that demo work, and then they'll move on to the gutters. So far we've had a few areas of issues, but nothing nothing that we major. Roof wasn't going to collapse. So we're happy to hear that. Your ADA restroom and parking lot project has gone really well. They have walls up. If you haven't been up there, I suggest you go up and see it. They've done a really good process. We did have to do some stabilization in the parking lot. We expected that when we did the cores, so there was a probably a 85 ft section that we put geo fabric in. Um they're coming along really well on that, and it'll be under roof within the next 2 weeks. So,
track and field we had our pre-construction meeting, and they will be starting I think we might push them back a few days depending on how your track schedule goes with some of your students. Um we do have that leeway at the end of the school schedule with the football game, so So can push them back up to a week. Okay. Yep, parking lot improvements. We have the pre-construction meeting this Thursday. Everything is looking on track for that as well. They're coming out to do some extra boring in the transportation lot where we know we're going to have to do some stabilization so we're going to try to get ahead of how big those areas look. And then that is Oh, early learning center. Obviously we haven't kicked that one off yet, but so far that's
looking like a great project as well. I will just add that Dana on behalf of the Stef Nagel Group has been here daily, sometimes multiple hours in the day checking on to make sure that things are done safely and they're following the schedule, following, you know, our expectations as the property owner. So I I appreciate her guidance and suggestions along the way and their attention to detail. Yeah, I can verify that because I went up to see and she was to the bathroom project and she was standing out there in the freezing cold watching them. I was All right. Is that it? That is it for your construction update. All right. Okay. So let's go on um to the meeting. It is recommended the agenda for the April 13th, 2026 meeting be approved as presented
with additions, corrections, or deletions as recommended by the board. Do we have any comments on that? No. Okay. So Dennis has a motion. Second. Kim, all is four. Um 600. It is recommended the meetings the minutes from the March 9th, 2026 meeting be approved as presented. Do I have a motion? Dennis. Second. Sharon, all is four. 600. It is recommended that the claims number 21954 through be approved as presented. Any comments on the claims? Okay. You have a motion? Sharon? Second. Natalie? All those four? Yeah, is anybody here to participate in the meeting? And thanks to the whole staff. All right. I hope. Yep. Good. All right, for corporation business, the first uh piece of action I have here is with our lease bond project. I seek a motion to approve the bid for the
building maintenance service upgrades, and I have Dana from the Nagel Group here. Uh she will help explain what this entails with our building management. Thank you. So, your building management system, which we're approving to upgrade here, will control all your HVAC temperature controls for every classroom and thermostat throughout the school. As we update all your HVAC projects, we're starting at the high school because their current system that they're running on, when it goes, you guys will have no control over anything. So, we want that to be done first and foremost. I'm fairly sure they're running on a like an old DOS system over there. Um this will be for the whole project, all your upgrades, front end hardware and software that we can get online and access everything and have control wherever we are, whoever
has access to that system. So What was that bid? 60? Do you have that? The bid amount? >> Yeah. HFI was your lowest bidder at $59,350. Thank you. I knew it was around 60. I just couldn't remember the exact amount. Any questions by the board? I will say this will help our maintenance guys better control. Um they'll be able to do it better remotely. Uh like she said, I I believe it's an old Windows that's not even maintained by Microsoft any longer. So, if if it goes down now, we're in trouble. So. We couldn't just put a nest in there? I don't think so. >> What? I didn't even hear. I said put a nest in there. Oh, yes. If we could, we would have. Okay. If not, do I have a motion to accept
the bid? Dennis. Second. Sharon. All those four. 6 - 0. All right. There you go. Next, um I have an out-of-state trip. Um a motion to approve an out-of-state trip to Kings Island on May 16th, 2026 for uh the middle school and high school um choir, band, and orchestra members. Uh this will be a one-day trip. It's not overnight, but it is out of state, so we do need board approval. Um I do have some basic costs. I believe it's about $64 a kid. That includes a T-shirt that they will be getting. And Mr. Drummond will be himself and then other chaperones will be coming. Okay. Any questions? If not, do I have a motion? Kim. Second. Natalie. All those four. 6 - 0. Uh another piece of the bond project. Uh this uh pieces
at the high school. Motion to approve the concrete bollards for the high school bond project. Uh those will be uh uh put in at the various entrances um as a an additional um safety precaution. Any questions? If not, do I have a motion? Natalie. Second. My hand was up. All those four. 6 - 0. Uh next, um I seek a motion to approve a trip to the United Kingdom with tentative dates of March 15th through the 25th of 2029. Uh the general cost will be $4,719 for students and $5,719 for adults. Uh this is from the organizers uh Jake Cole and Grace Bonnenkamp. And if you have any questions, Grace is here and can answer those if you might have any. So this is a spring break trip? >> Yeah, so this will hit us
spring break of 2029 and will will overlap with spring break there. Um it is a little abnormal in that we're tacking two additional days. Um usually when we do spring break trips they are 9 days. If we were going for a shorter option there, we would have to exclude Ireland. Um we have an alternative there if we if that, you know, needs to come to pass. Um we do fundraise for that and by approving it early we're going to allow it will allow students to have a lower monthly payment and parents as well making it easier for families. What's our minimum we have to Uh Yeah. number-wise? Yeah. >> That is an excellent question. I don't know it off the top of my head. But we have 26 enrolled for the Greece trip this year
Oh really? Yeah, so our general thought is if the community is advocating for trips like that we want to continue to make that available. But I can get back with you on specifics of that. No, no, no, that's just curious. We we we don't have a calendar out that far yet, I don't believe. You do not know? >> um and I think it the earliest we could do it probably be next February or March is I think that would be the next year that would come on. Uh if there was a change, would you guys have the option to change with the company? Okay. >> Those dates are flexible within like I think a 2-week window. So we can definitely >> won't be a drastic change. I'm not saying there will be. I just want
to make sure that in case something does happen. >> we were talking with the agent about as well. I have homework for you guys if you want to, but I don't anybody want No, I want them to go. I want them to go. Okay. Everyone should get to go to Ireland. >> else have any questions? Everyone should get to go to Ireland. >> So, can I ask was this something they asked for or was it just a Um, it was not region specific. I know that um, there is a non-sponsored school trip that does kind of monopolize France. Um, this was more of a what can we connect to standards and I think it'll be wonderful to have the kids see the British Museum and their collection is so vast. So, really it's my nerd
interest in geography. No, I'm just curious. Yeah. All right. Is everybody cool with this trip? Natalie says yes. >> I had a hand up too. Are you asking a question or >> No, I'm a I'm saying let's do it. Okay, if there's no discussion, do I have a motion? Yes. Anybody? Natalie? Is your hand up? No, I decided to put it down. Seconded by Kim. All right. I call it for Thank you for being here. Uh, the next >> to leave them, we'll look at them. If you leave them here, I can I can make sure they get a copy of them. Thank you. >> need to. Uh, next uh, we have a training agreement uh, seeking a motion to approve the agreement between Eastern Green High School and Linton Beauty College to provide professional
training in cosmetology, uh, barbering and aesthetics for students that are interested in uh, that career field. Uh, this will function very similar to like what we do with uh, uh, Hoosier Hills minus the transportation will not be provided. Um, and uh, it's actually less cost to the school uh, to do this program than it is for the kids that do Hoosier Hills. Small interest. There was some interest in this. It's It's a small number of students, but Any discussion? Uh as I was reading through the programming, are they going to have to do summer They do not. I can't remember if they actually have to. If they get enough hours in, okay. It's It's available to them and they know that when they go into it. It's made very clear. And And I can attest
the reason they've they've expanded that over the summer just cuz I have experience with this as a principal is many kids, especially if they do any extracurricular, struggle to get all the the clinical I don't know if they call them clinical hours, but they have to get like 1,500 hours of practical experience, so Obviously, it's not something I worry about a whole lot with with my hair, so But uh no, all kidding aside, uh we we uh that's the reason they've expanded over the summer to help more students be successful in the program. And I got that straight from the director there. Will this be an employment seal plus? It could be cuz they'll be getting a certification. I believe each student will graduate with a certification in that in their selected field. And then
um they will have enough hours to be counted towards uh the employment plus. 650? Absolutely, yes. Yeah. Yes, they will. So, I I believe it's 1,500 hours that they have to get to But don't quote me on that. I think that's >> thinking. Okay. And the And the summer hours would also count towards that as well. Okay. Okay, any other discussion? If not, do I have a motion to approve this? Natalie? So, Dennis? All those four? Six uh Thank you very much. Uh next um I seek a motion to approve a $600 stipend uh for Dennis Carter for additional hours worked during the winter weather snow removal. Um I shared a little bit with the board, but I'll share with everybody. Uh Dennis is salary and has a supervisory role, so um uh a lot
of He doesn't get overtime hours is the way our uh manual is set up and uh that's a fraction of what if he was paid hourly uh the overtime that he would get. Dennis is here often times 4:00 a.m. and uh goes above and beyond. Uh we were fortunate that it was less hours this year than last year, believe it or not, because one of the weeks was just really bad and we knew it was going to be bad, so we didn't put a bunch of overtime hours in to clear snow when we knew we wouldn't be in session for at least two or three days. So, but that's why I seek that, just a small token to thank Dennis for his extra time and effort. Discussion. Okay. Tim? Mike? Seconded by Mike. All those
four? This money well spent. We're lucky we got him. Yeah, I agree. Uh next we have some personnel items. First, I seek a motion to approve the resignation of Rhonda Dobson as elementary instruct- instructional assistant effective at the end of the 25-26 school year. Um It It is a resignation, but it's also retirement. Um I know Rhonda has spent many years here. We appreciate her time and effort with the students in our elementary school. Yeah, sure do. Okay, do I have a motion? Mike? Second? Natalie? All those four? Six uh Again, we We do uh I believe in the May board meeting we're going to do a formal bringing all of our retirees and recognize that. Uh next I have an additional resignation a motion to approve the resignation of Nicole Chaney as middle school
instructional assistant effective at the end of the at the current school year. Uh Ms. Chaney will reduce her hours for the remainder of the school year, but she's agreed to stay on um and still assist us um and in a part-time basis fewer hours than she had before and then she's moving on to a new position at the end of the school year. Okay. Do I have a motion? Sure. Second. Natalie. All those for? 6-0. Uh next um I kind of a contract renewal a motion to approve the renewal of the teaching contract for Ron Strzinski as a high school uh math teacher. Um the reason we bring this each year is uh Mr. Strzinski is a retired teacher and our um uh teachers' agreement with the Eastern Green Teachers' Organization requires that we do
that uh for retiring teachers each year that we approve them. Okay. Do I have a motion? Dennis. Second. Ken. All those for? 6-0. Uh next we have some coaching. Uh I for cheer coach a motion to approve Angie Enman as the varsity cheerleading head coach for the 2026-2027 school year. Do you have a motion? Natalie. Second. I can't be second if I'm first. >> All those for? You got two hands. I do. 6-0. We thank her for all the work she puts in on that program. I know she puts a lot in. She does. Um next we have a volunteer assistant coach uh for cheer. Uh motion to approve Amber Reeves as the varsity cheerleading volunteer assistant coach for the 2026-2027 school year. Do you have a motion. Natalie. Second. Dennis. All those four. I
know Amber also puts in a lot of time, especially for being a volunteer. Uh with uh summer events coming up soon, uh we have some more coaching um uh motions here. Uh I seek uh a motion to approve Jamie Hudson as the varsity boys basketball head coach for the 26-27 school year. I have a motion. Dennis. Second. Natalie. All those four. Against. Five, one, zero. Uh next, um high school varsity boys assistant basketball coaches, a motion to approve the following as varsity boys basketball assistant coaches for the 26-27 school year. Jacob Carmichael as the JV coach, Kyler Hudson as the freshman C team coach, Brandon Ellis as varsity assistant, and Tyler Bruff as a volunteer assistant. I have a motion. Sharon. Second. Natalie. All those four. Six out of Uh next, I seek a motion
to approve Nathan Martindale as our varsity girls basketball head coach for the 26-27 school year. We discussed that. Can we discuss >> discuss this. You guys do whatever you want. Are you sure you want to do this? >> I'd like to make that motion, please. Yeah, well, well, discussion's not over yet. No, we we are fortunate to have uh uh Mr. Martindale uh interested in this position and being willing to step in and do it. He does have some varsity coaching experience, plus he has great relationships with all of our students, being a middle school teacher that uh the students uh enjoy being in his class. So, it's a win-win. >> I've never heard anything bad about him. I'll wait a year. As I said, he is an experienced varsity coach. Vote quick before he
changes his mind. Okay, motion by Kim. Seconded by Dennis. All those four. You're in it now. Thank you. Glad to have you on board. Uh next, I have a motion to approve the following as varsity girls basketball assistant coaches for the 2026-2027 school year. Josh Cunningham as a JV coach. Jared is a Barr. Looks okay. Jared Barr, varsity assistant. And Lexi Bruff, a volunteer varsity assistant. Now, this is for girls, right? >> Yes, it's for girls. Cuz the title says boys. Oh, that is girls. I'm sorry. Okay, do I have um a motion? Dennis, second. Sharon. All those four. Six out of Uh next, um for varsity volleyball coach, I seek a I I seek a motion to approve Dara James. I say that right? Yeah. Okay. Uh Dara James is the varsity uh girls
volleyball head coach for the 2026-2027 school year. I'll motion. Dennis. Second. Emily. All those four. Six out of We are definitely happy to have Coach James join us and get started with the volleyball program just like uh Nathan with the basketball program. Uh next, we have some donations. Um a motion to approve the following donations. $297 uh to the Eastern Green High School Baseball Boosters Club. From the Boosters Club, excuse me, to Eastern Green High School Athletics to purchase baseball hats for the high school, middle school, and community league baseball teams. $250 from Crane Credit Union Crane Cares program to Eastern Green High School for the Riley Dance Marathon fundraiser. $45 anonymous donor to Eastern Green High School Athletics to cover the cost of a player practice apparel. And $100 from Russell and Kelly Gray
to the Hunter Roberts Nancy Hacker fund. Okay, as always we appreciate all our donations. Absolutely. So I'll have a motion to accept those. Yep. Second, Natalie. All those in favor? We do have a couple late items. They're on the very next page of your packet there. The first late item and I've shared these with you for at least two or three weeks for you to review, but motion I seek a motion to approve the student handbooks for the elementary, middle school, and high school for the 2026-2027 school year. Okay, thank you for working on those changes we suggested. Appreciate it. Um Do you have a motion to approve the handbooks? Sharon. Second. Dennis. All those for? 6-0-0. Uh next I seek a motion to accept the retirement of Gary Jackson as a corporation bus driver
effective April 13th, 2026. Do you have a motion? Yep. Second. Dennis. All those for? 6-0-0. Uh next I seek a motion to approve the termination of Rachel Prince as a corporation bus driver effective April 13th, 2026. Do you have a motion? Dennis. Second. Sharon. All those for? 6-0-0. Okay. All right. Um Would you all like to give us your update on the schools? Okay. Sure. Okay. Try that again. Um so the elementary our attendance since our last board meeting is at 94%. Um shout out to second grade with 95.95.6% attendance rate. Um our enrollment is holding steady at 380. Um I'd like to give a huge thank you to our PTO for hosting the egg hunt. It was an incredible event um including a lifeline helicopter that flew in for the kids. Uh so it
was just really great. They always come up with really creative ways to engage with kids and family. So I just appreciate their efforts. Uh we recognized our paraprofessionals a couple weeks ago. So I want to take a moment to sincerely thank our incredible paraprofessionals. Their dedication, patience, and compassion make a lasting difference. Um whether they're offering encouragement to other staff or to kids, providing support, or just helping create a positive learning environment. Their impact does not go unnoticed. So we wanted to celebrate them. Uh our second grade performed a wonderful pajama party music program this month. So I want to give a special thanks to Ms. Drummond for all the time and effort she puts into our music programs, our second grade teachers, the students, the families for their participation. It was another successful music
event. Um and Natalie did wear her pajamas, so I wish you would have told me that. I would have worn mine. I'm sorry. I went home and changed so I would be presentable. So next time I'll know. Uh just a reminder we have kindergarten round up coming up on April 24th. Um so I want to thank the parents of our current kindergarten students for making arrangements so the kindergarten team so our kindergarteners are going to stay home that day so our team can be present and work with the kids. So I just thank them for that. Um if you are looking to enroll your kid in kindergarten, just check the website and you can find a link. Um, we also have enrollment open for the ELC for next year. We're really happy with the num-
the way the numbers are rolling in. Um, so don't wait to get those spots secure. Go ahead and enroll now. Um, ILEARN testing, the bulk of our testing will take place next week for our third and fourth graders. So, parents, just watch for information from the teachers so you know the schedule. Um, we try to be mindful of when we pull them out for like orthodontist appointments and stuff during testing, but we can always do makeups. Um, and lastly, I just want to look ahead to next week. We are going to celebrate Administrative Assistant's Day. Um, and I just want to take a moment to recognize Ashley and Emily for everything they do for our school. Um, our office has been through some changes this year and they have just been an incredible support system
for me personally. Um, I tell them every day I couldn't do what I do without them. So, I just appreciate them keeping everything running smoothly. Um, and they're just a very welcome face when everyone comes through the door. So, um, they're just very positive and I just appreciate them. So, I just wanted to say that. That's all I have. Okay. That's all I have to say about that. That's all. Uh, all right, middle school updates. Um, attendance for uh, this last month was at 95% as a whole school. So, still doing very well. Um, as a school, the seventh grade did lead the way this month considerably, I will say. Um, by 96.6%. So, that's awesome. Um, everyone else is still above what we are hoping for, which is 94%. Everyone is still well above
that. Obviously, that's um, where we stand with that 95 as a whole school. So, good job, everyone getting to school on time, being ready to learn. Our enrollment is at 341. That's up one from last month. So, we're stayed right around there pretty much all year. That's awesome. Shout-outs that I have for this month. First, I want to shout out the science department, Mandy Buskirk, Alex Clary, Elizabeth Richardson. They put on another very very successful science fair. I want to thank community members and businesses that came in to help judge for that. We always have a great turnout and it's really appreciated. Every year about the time that it's time for science fair, the science department is like, "We're never doing this again." Because it becomes very stressful and it's a little overwhelming. I'm like,
"That's okay. We'll talk about it on Monday, right?" Cuz it's on Friday. We'll talk about it on Monday. And by the end of the day on Friday, everyone is like, "This is amazing. It's the best year we've ever had." And it was the same this year. So, we had a lot of really great quality projects. I want to say that they did a great job of preparing just in general, but they also walked the whole process. They walked with them through the whole process and you could tell because we had some really standout projects. So, congratulations to all our winners for that. I also want to shout out Alex Clary for completing the STEM fellowship. I had opportunity last week to go down ROI put on a very nice little lunch and then they were
able to present some of the things that they had been doing during the school year. It was It was great. Alex did a great job, but also just everyone that was there did a wonderful job with all their different projects. One lady had They had created a putt-putt golf course or whatever that was like a mock golf course. They talked about how to make that successful and all the different things that go into that. So, it was very nice. I appreciate ROI for putting that on. And I know that Alex has learned a lot to bring back to our school. So, thank I thank him for putting that time in this year. I also want to shout out the fifth grade team. We made it to Bradford Woods. We survived Bradford Woods, and we came
back from Bradford Woods. So, that was all of them. All of them came back. Um I want to >> No tornado warnings this year. >> No tornado warnings. Um I think they had really great weather. Um Mr. Lewis and I were both there on Monday when they got there. We had a good time getting them settled and seeing all the different things they were going to do. Um I want to thank the high school for loaning us some really great students. I think that was the best part for me was actually seeing the big kids mentoring the little kids um and having seen them go through the middle school and then to do something like that is really cool. So, thank you to those fifth grade teachers that put that together. It's not easy to
organize a trip of that magnitude, and they do it very well. So, I appreciate them. I also want to thank Kendall Reed for inviting us over to the career fair um this month. We the eighth grade went over to check out all the different career opportunities, and they came back with a lot of great stories and um opportunities that they may not have known about before that. So, thank you to the high school for having us over for that as well. Uh thank you to our IAs as Cara mentioned, we celebrated them this month. Um we have phenomenal um instructional assistants. They're the most flexible people in the building. Um they are in the classrooms. They're subbing when we need coverage. They're helping with cafeteria duties. They're just all over the place, and we really
appreciate all the things that they do. It was also um assistant principals week last week. Miss Yoho had her last assistant principals week ever. Um so we want to thank her for all of the things she has done for all of us over the years, um but even this year. So. Again, administrative assistants day, we have the very best. We've got Amy Deckard, Cheyenne West, and Amy Rogers are all in the middle school. I share Amy uh Rogers with Eric, but well, and I guess with Cara too cuz she does ECA for them as well. They um like Cara said, they keep everything running smoothly. I have tried to sit at the front when they need to take a restroom break, and that doesn't go very well, so they just don't take breaks cuz if
I have to be the person in charge, then it doesn't work out. So I thank them for keeping >> heard. I know. I I fully admit. It is the phone's ringing, things are happening, I'm like, "I don't know. I don't know." I can't transfer me. What the buttons are doing? I'm not pushing buttons. Like the bell's opening. Like what's going on here? >> a call. Don't ask me to transfer a call. I'm like, "That." You'll have to call back. Um so yes, thank you to to all of them for everything that they do. School bus driver appreciation day is also April 27th. So we want to appreciate our school bus drivers. Um they get us get those kiddos here safe and sound every day and then also get them home, which is also very important.
Uh last, I just want to say good luck to everyone that is getting ready to test for ILEARN. Um we've got the next 3 weeks uh here and there. We have testing days. I know I told the teachers today the hard work is already done. We did that. We can go into it confidently knowing that we have um taught them everything they need to know for this test and beyond. Um we just need everyone to make sure they're getting a good night's rest, getting a good breakfast, coming ready to do their best and that's all we can ask. Good luck to all of our students. Excuse me, don't we have a rule you can't wear Purdue stuff in here? Can I make a motion? It doesn't matter. Can't help it. I mean Is that a
four year anniversary? All right, go ahead and go ahead and Spring sports are underway. I want to congratulate coach McCarty and coach Deckard on their first wins. And then of course wish all the athletes and coaches successful seasons. I invite everyone out to the the ball parks, the track meets in the fairway. We have a lot of a lot of good sports starting up. Also want to thank Miss Mrs. Waldridge and ROI for taking time to help do mock interviews for upcoming potential upskill opportunities. So thank you very much. The high school has some amazing teachers and some hard working students. For SAT, our ELA scores are holding firm at 49% of students testing meeting the state benchmark. And math scores increased 5% to overtake the state average. So we are now on the positive
side of that state average which is which is a great thing. Riley dance marathon took place the last week of March. Students raised over $2100 for the kids at Riley Hospital. Thank you to Mrs. Provo and everyone who helped out and participated. Congratulations to our newest inductees in the National Honor Society. Thank you to Mrs. Birch and the NHS members for organizing that ceremony. They put a in a lot of hard work in making sure that that is a a really awesome night for those kids. As Allison stated earlier, uh Reed and the JAG students put together a fantastic career fair for our students and wanted to thank uh not only JAG and Mr. Reed, but also all the community uh partnerships that we have came in and um really took some time out of
their day uh to share what they do with our kids. So, really do appreciate that. Uh thank you to all the teachers that came out to the top 10 dinner. And a special thank you to Mrs. Bartlett and Mrs. Tarr and our guest speaker, Mr. Parker Denny. Um this one was actually rather special for me. Uh Parker is the first guest speaker um that I actually was a as a as a principal had as a student. Um so, it pretty awesome, well deserved. Uh Mrs. Bartlett always does a fantastic job every year trying to find really inspiring stories. And uh he told a lot about um being um the the equipment manager for the national champion IU football team. That I'm sorry. Who was the national champion of that? IU. I don't I don't hate.
I don't hate. And it's Jackie. It's fun. It's all right. Doesn't doesn't hurt me any. Um You guys will wow. >> Did you get to see the trophy? Maybe we'll find out later we'll get to see one. No, but you know, guess what? IU wasn't even invited to the basketball tournament. So, there you go. True. Yeah, true. That's true. WE'RE A FOOTBALL SCHOOL. AND THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN invited the way they played. Uh best of luck to our band, our choir, and orchestra as they travel to Brazil uh for this year's ISMA on April 18th. Uh I plan to start the day there um and then come back uh about and to the Thunderbird hustle, uh which is going to be starting at noon at noon at the high school campus.
Really like to see everyone come and hustle around the track. So, um There's lots of other things set up, too. I don't mean to steal your thunder, but there's lots of different hobbies and things that kids, parents, everyone, community members can try out. Our NHS is participating in that, helping to set it up. Our athletic department's going to be out there. We've got some student council selling There's a fun run, and then there's other hobbies and things out there, too. Just a mile. Four laps. Four laps. And you can walk, you can run. Can I bring my gator? Sure, you just can't drive it on the track, I don't think, right? No gators on the track. This year, but maybe not next year. Next year, no. Yeah, I was going to say this year, do
whatever you want. Just get us through track season. Let's see if anything else popping up for you. >> No, sorry. I >> No, okay. Just double-checking. Uh we have our senior recognition night on May 7th at 6:00 p.m. And let me be the first to invite you also to our 2026 commencement ceremony on May 30th. We look forward to celebrating our seniors with you guys. And then the commencement ceremony will start at 11:00 a.m. Uh our fine arts program is happy to invite everyone out to the Eastern Green Art and Author Show uh on April 21st. The show begins at 5:30 in the high school library. Reading of authors' poetry and stories will commence at 6:00. Which day was that? I'm sorry, I missed it. >> That was on April 21st. 21st, thank you. Also,
I'd like to invite everyone out uh on opening night from May on May 1st to the uh the high school musical. Uh this year, the musical is SpongeBob. So, I hope hopefully we'll see everybody out uh checking checking that out. We have some surprises this year. Some surprises? Okay. All right, and some new stuff we've never done before. Tech tech no? Uh yeah, you'll just have to show up and see. Are I I pyrotechnics? >> Pyro? No, we do not have a license to do that. It's underwater anyhow. Yeah, that's fair to say. I know what's involved in indoor pyro and we're not doing it. So, I'm not getting licensed. Uh freshmen will be taking bio ILEARN in a few weeks and many of our students will be taking AP exams in early May. I
want to wish everyone uh best of luck. Uh these are uh very serious uh exams. Uh bio ILEARN uh is a school accountability test for us and and Mr. Hutchinson has done an amazing job uh really kind of anchoring those scores for us. Uh and our AP scores uh you know, if the students perform well on those, uh get get a three, four, or five on those exams, uh then they are able to actually take that and earn college credit credit by doing well on those exams. So, wish uh everyone a a fantastic uh and and best a fantastic day and and good luck um on those exams. I would also like to wish Mr. Metocardi a happy school librarian day and a happy administrative assistants day on April 29th. We absolutely cannot do what
we do without Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. Haynes, and Ms. Blumberg. Um they are absolutely amazing. Um you know, Mr. Howard and I have already lost our hair, but otherwise we're fairly sane and it's because of them. Uh truly. Uh they they do an outstanding work. Uh last week was also assistant principal appreciation week and I would also like to recognize Mr. Howard. Uh he has been an an amazing asset to our students and to our faculty and to this community. Uh he has really uh brought a a heart and a passion um for uh for the kids and I'm eternally grateful for for everything that he does. Uh and then last but not least, I would like to ask all parents to please update your information in Harmony. Uh in this upcoming school year, we're going
to have a lot of uh of information rolling out uh during the during the summer, uh especially with our our new new diploma. There are new new things that that parents need to know about and uh of course the construction updates as the high school will be kind of shifting where everyone parks. So, uh just uh please uh update your information so we can make sure we communicate effectively. Okay. Mr. Glass? Um I just want to echo the uh I want to first congratulate our second and third graders for uh completing the IREAD test and wish the best of luck to all of our students taking the ILEARN, the AP, uh the bio test at the high school. Um just wish them the best of luck and we do want to thank all of our
teachers and IAs for all their work getting the students prepared. A lot goes into that behind the scenes and I know the teachers, while they aren't taking the test, they feel the pressure and want to see the students succeed as well. Um Mr. uh Kirkendall talked about the musical coming up. I will say keep an eye out for our next podcast. Um, I will have a few guests from the uh, cast and crew that will take part in the uh, uh, the podcast. That will be That will come out before the uh, the actual performance on May 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Um, we do have the teacher appreciation week coming up, the week of May 4th through 8th. Do you do something a little different at the middle school? >> We do. We do celebrate
the week before because our teachers are gone to DC the week of. So, we always celebrate them a week early. But, the official week is the 4th through the 8th. So, we will have that coming up. And um, we just encourage parents, if you've had a teacher who's made a uh, an impact on your student's life, uh, you know, just a small little recognition, even a thank you, uh, from the the students or the parents go a long way. And we always want to take the opportunity to recognize the great work our teachers do. Um, I also want to share a few additional updates for our early learning center. Um, we've made some expansions. We've added the infant class, the toddler, and an additional preschool classroom. That brings our total to six classrooms we will
have for the 26-27 school year. We have opened up registration, and you can find more information about that on the school website, or please contact the central office, and we will get you directed to the right place. I do know that our infant class is about half full, and the toddler, there's already a waiting list on the toddler class. >> Wow. And uh, we have at least two pre-K classes that are full. So, uh, we've had a great uh, turnout already, but uh, there's still still room for most of those age groups. So, reach out, and we would love to you know, if you're if you need some uh, daycare and childcare in this area, uh, check us out. It's very reasonable. Um, also, we have some spots that are still open for our summer
early learning center camp. Um, that's for pre-K students. That's just for 3-year-olds through 5-year-olds uh for this summer. Now, that will change um starting in August. We will become a year-round program. Uh but, we do have some spots for that over the summer, and we also have some spots in our Kids Zone summer camp, and that's for kindergarten through sixth grade. For more information about either one of those, contact central office, and we will get you the information you need if you're if you'd like to sign your student up. Um, I believe prom is uh April 25th, correct? Yep. Okay. So, that's right around the corner, and tell us again where it's at. It is It is at the historic Limestone building in Bedford. Okay. And big hit here is the grand march, and that's
at 5:00 p.m. the high school gym. >> gym. Everybody wants to come out and and uh That's sure. come in. And I just want to again uh Mr. Kirkendall mentioned this, thank all the students and the adults involved with Dance Marathon. I think I've said it before. Uh we went and talked about my granddaughter. When it When it touches you, it has a little bit more meaning. Um, I've been a principal for a number of years, and we always did Dance Marathon. It was a great activity, but it hits a little closer to home now. So, we do appreciate all their efforts with that. That's all I have. Okay. Sherry? I know that you guys are just inundated with activities and excitement. Um Thank you for your enthusiasm. Everybody who's here that it just um
this is a crazy time of year, a wonderful time of year, but crazy time of year. And then you get to test on top of it. So, you know, just to just to put icing on the cake. So, just be thinking about you and Thank you. We really appreciate Sherry? Oh, just >> Yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah, no, that's fine. I uh just want to say I really enjoyed the interview day, the mock interviews, and my previous experience I would have hired that student particular student I interviewed at General Motors in a heartbeat. So, I just really feel like uh the preparation that they've done has been was excellent. And it was in the same day as the career fair, so I got the chance to go and see the career fair. What a great opportunity.
And uh the fields had their concrete out there and had some of the kids helping them uh do some concrete work and pulling that together and the whole gym was full. It was wonderful. Great job there on all that. And thank you two ladies, too, for the great work you're doing there and the STEM, I think uh was pretty cool with all the people there. Um part of the uh project also is Alex got a 3D printer and a chomp It's called chomp saw? Yeah, it's a cardboard cutting thing. Like a router for cardboard. It's really cool. I want one. Yes. That's a good buy, I think. I think he was wishing that he would have got that a little bit earlier from the one project he did with the Truffula trees. >> Oh, yeah.
One of his projects were about how to pick um the Truffula tufts from the top of the Truffula trees without cutting down the tree. And so, the kids had to like create these, but they had to cut out all this cardboard and if you know him, he's not a big fan of like clutter. So, it was a lot for him, but Um Cara, would you care to What is the cutoff date for the age on kindergarten? August 1st. August 1st. And I know that's cuz my daughter was July 31st at 11:30 p.m. Wow. And he like just made the cut-off. Okay. Thank you. You're very welcome. Um Push it out there. The youngest kid in the uh I just found out I wanted to recognize one of our alum. Sure. If uh we could uh
Cool, Dusty. >> about it. Miss Mr. Dusty May. Oh my goodness. You know, go blue, right? Who would ever think we'd be saying go blue in Eastern Greene, but an amazing family, amazing role model, uh amazing role model for our community, right? And just uh I need to tell them he doesn't coach at Purdue. He wouldn't? He doesn't coach at Purdue. >> And he doesn't coach at Purdue? I think they offered him like 2.5 million dollars and he said no, right? And he's not going to North Carolina? And it really is a remarkable story and and he's still very humble and very appreciative of his Greene County roots and everything that he has said. >> He's probably watching the board meeting right now. Yeah, I'm pretty sure he is. So, I don't >> God bless
you. I'd like to propose that we consider April 6th as Dusty May Day for Eastern Greene. I'm okay with that. >> You guys um think we might be able to pull something like that off? Yeah. Approach you actively. Oh, yeah. Maybe we Yeah. >> Yeah. We'll write some plans around that maybe. We can do that. Absolutely. That's all I have. L? I know it's really odd, but I'm kind of speechless right now. Great. I've got this. I I I would like to thank all the staff, the principals, all the way down, especially the teachers, and the administrators, cuz it's like it's like they mentioned the science fair. I don't know what it takes, but I'm sure it takes a lot. And there's other activities that we don't recognize, that we don't know what goes on.
And and it just takes a lot of time. I think we should be very appreciative of the people that that are are part of it. Totally agree. All right. I think that's it. So, I will adjourn the meeting at 7:29. Kept it under an hour. Have a motion? Any discussion on that? I'll check. Dennis? Second.
