All right. Can we stand for the pledge? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Heavenly Father, we're thankful >> [clears throat] >> so thankful for safety through this uh harsh winter that we've had last couple weeks, Lord, and just safety for our students and our faculty, Lord. And just blessed our students are back in school and excelling, Lord. And just uh pray that they'll have a good end of the school year, Lord. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. All right. Um call the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Okay, we have some special presentations, Ms. Wyatt. >> [clears throat] >> Looks like you're first. Should we sit right here? Yeah. Go
ahead. Hi, I am Carrington Wyatt, social media intern at the high school. During the first semester, I played an active role in creating, organizing, and managing social media and communications. I consistently updated the information screens around the school with important information such as daily events, announcements, breakfast and lunch menus, weather, meme of the week, and days left of school, helping ensure that students and staff had access to timely and accurate information. I also planned, filmed, and edited, and published fun and engaging videos every week using creativity and teamwork to promote school spirit and highlight student life and keep content interesting and relevant. In addition to weekly content, I produced a comprehensive semester video for the school that captured key events, activities, and memorable moments from throughout the term, including students working together in classrooms, clubs,
and school events. I also I was also present at social events to document activities, capture photos and videos, and ensure those moments were shared with the school community. I contributed written content by writing articles for the school website and managing posts across the school social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, to keep the school community informed and engaged. As part of a consistent content schedule, I posted teacher spotlights every Tuesday to recognize and celebrate staff members, helping strengthen relationships and appreciation within the school. Through these efforts, I helped improve communication, increase engagement, and build school pride during the first semester by developing strong skills in media production, writing, organize organization, and teamwork. Moving forward, I plan to continue doing the same work I have been consistently doing while also expanding my efforts by planning and
organizing a fun and engaging teacher appreciation week focused on celebrating and recognizing our teachers. Through these efforts, I will continue to help improve communication, increase engagement, and build school pride while further developing my skills in media production, writing, organization, and teamwork. Thank you. Hold on. Now, we we have a policy you can't read, so you have to do that again. >> [laughter] >> Thank you very much. You've [laughter] done a really nice job. It's nice to [applause] to see all the different things that you've done. We do appreciate it. All right, so I'm here to share with you some student council updates for the month. We've had a very, very busy month as student council. We did SRO appreciation day. We decorated Officer Corres' door and office to show how thankful we are for him
for keeping our school safe and his commitment to all of us. We also planned and organized the winter homecoming ceremony, which we only had 2 hours to set up because of snow days, so that was a lot, very stressful, but we did get it done. Uh it was a very successful event, and we would also like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Tarr for announcing and helping with the ceremony as she's done for many, many years. We also did counselor appreciation week. Um we did flowers, banners, decorated their office, and we did a video, kind of like Carrington does, to show that our school counselors, Ms. Wolfgarth and Ms. Rupert, how thankful we are for them and all that they do. Our future plans, we um hope to fundraise a little bit more
for the student body, and we will participate in bus driver appreciation towards the end of this month. And we've also scheduled our pep assembly that was postponed due to all of our snow days to coincide with the boys sectionals that we will have on March 2nd. We would like to thank you guys for constantly supporting us and thank our administration. Thank you. Thank you. >> [applause] [clears throat] >> Okay, who's next? All right, we're going to talk about the elementary student of the month, so we'll start with Reese. Do you want to come on up? All right, Reese, come on up. Here is your certificate. Good. If you want to turn around, I'm going to read to your family what your teachers had to say about you. Are you ready? Reese is a quiet soul
who always gives his best in everything he does. Would your family agree that you're quiet? Maybe. >> [laughter] >> He leads by example, always doing the right thing and taking responsibility, whether that means straightening up the room even if he didn't make the mess or helping wherever he is needed. He can be trusted with higher levels of independence, always listens carefully, follows directions the first time they are given. He is dependable and thoughtful, aware of the needs of others, and showing kindness through his supportive and helpful actions. His steady effort and positive character make him truly deserving of our student of the month recognition. So, congratulations. All right, up next we're going to have Elizabeth. Congratulations. This is Elizabeth Huffman, and here's what your teachers had to say about you. Elizabeth always does her best
in every activity and is a natural leader among her peers. She is quick to volunteer to help for any task, showing trustworthy and kindness in what she truly is. Her confidence is contagious and helps create a positive, encouraging environment for everyone around her. She leads by example by listening carefully and following directions the first time they are given. With her helpful attitude, great sense of humor, and joyful spirit, she is a pleasure to work with and a wonderful role model for others and our student of the month. Congratulations. >> [cough and clears throat] >> Okay. Next for middle school, first I'll have Easton McLaughlin come up, please. >> [clears throat] >> Easton is an overall star student. He always gives 100% in his academics, he asks questions, uses resources, participates in class discussions, and even
tries to help his peers in class. Easton is also a great role model to his peers by his outstanding behavior. He is always respectful, responsible, kind, helpful, trustworthy, and goes the extra mile. He's willing to stay after class and clean the room, and it shows his thoughtfulness and caring attitude towards others. We have enjoyed having him in class and getting to know him this school year. We are so proud of him and excited to continue to watch him grow. That was from Mrs. Chitwood and Mrs. Yoho. So, good job, Easton. Good job. >> [applause] >> Dakota Merritt. This is from Mr. Hudson and Mrs. Russell. They said Dakota is an outstanding example of what it means to be both a great student and a great person. She consistently shows kindness and a willingness to help
both her classmates and her teachers. Dakota treats everyone with respect and truly cares about the people around her. Academically, Dakota gives 100% effort in everything she does. She takes pride in her work and always strives to do her very best. What stands out most is her determination. If she doesn't understand something right away, she never gives up. Instead, she asks thoughtful questions, keeps trying, and works hard until she succeeds. We are incredibly proud of Dakota's accomplishments and feel lucky to have her in our classroom. Dakota Merritt. >> [applause] >> Okay, good afternoon. Uh our first student is Addy Ramey. >> [applause] [clears throat] >> Our student of the month uh is Addy Ramey. Addy is a diligent student and athlete at Eastern Greene High School, but tonight's honor was prompted by her extraordinary work ethic.
In addition to applying that work ethic to school work and sports, Addy has done an exemplary job as a student intern for the athletic department. If you were in attendance for the girls uh basketball sectional tournament, you saw Addy speeding around the gym and concession area from long before the game started to long after the games ended. Adding alongside Mr. Buskirk and his family and her family and many volunteers were crucial were crucial to making this event run smoothly and Eastern Green was well represented. When teachers were informed that she was the student of the month many and many reached out to praise her maturity, work ethic and their confidence that she will continue to thrive in her next chapter. And I will add that I don't think I've ever had a student who was
more driven. Uh she keeps not only Mr. Buskirk in line, but she has enough energy to also try to keep me in line as well. So >> [laughter] >> I really do appreciate you and all that you all you do. So congratulations. >> [applause] >> All right, Nick Rawley. How was there? Hello. Congratulations. Our next student of the month is Mr. Nick Rawley. Nick has also been praised by a number of teachers for his consistent day in and day out work ethic. Nick is also well known for his great attitude and flexibility with whatever he is asked to do. This has been especially evident in his leadership role with Mr. Tars construction and manufacturing classes. We often find Nick working independently on a project for athletics, teachers and improving other parts of our school. Mr.
Zapata says, "I'm very impressed with Nick's work ethic and drafting skills. He made a amazing two scale blueprint for for the job. I'm an artist and I could not do that. I could not have done that as easily. Great job, Nick." So awesome job, man. Thank you very much. >> [applause] >> Once again, congratulations to all of our students who are recognized here. All right, next is Wyatt All right, I think that's it for this special presentation part. Um I know that exciting as these meetings can be. Uh this past semester, we've had um uh a great great job uh by our students for semester one courses. We had a 97% pass rate. Our current enrollment sits at 342. The current overall attendance rate sits at 94.8. Congratulations to all of our students for all their hard work. Uh in January, we hosted a couple eighth grade parent information sessions on the new graduation requirements. I would like
to thank all the families that came out uh to learn more. Very helpful. Good. Good, I'm glad to hear that. Um February 11th is going to be our high school scheduling night. Um this is for all students who are interested in coming to EG & JHS next year. It will be 5:30 to 7:00 in the high school gym. And this is also open to Springville students. Um we get a lot of students from there or any other students who are also in interested from the surrounding area. We just won't actually enroll them until this summer when we do our open enrollment. Thank you to ROI for coming to present to our students about the uh apprenticeship opportunities through Upskill. Um there are several great opportunities open to our students through this program. And this is
also a great time to plug all of our possible internship and apprenticeship opportunities. Currently, we have a kitchen intern, transportation, social media, athletic intern internship, and [snorts] education apprenticeships. Uh we are also looking forward to possibly adding a maintenance internship as well. >> [snorts] >> Congratulations to all high school band students who participated in solo and ensemble contest this past Saturday. [snorts] Um choir students who participated in uh district solo ensemble uh two Saturdays ago, uh uh they did that at Bloomington North and they did a fantastic job. The following students received a silver rating. Uh
Allison Stevenson, Ashley Williams, and Mason Blizzard. The quintet made up of Ashley Williams, Sophia Schwab, Canyon Granger, Mason Blizzard, and Ethan Gilreath received a silver rating for their performance as well. Special congratulations goes to our soloist Canyon Granger for getting a gold rating on her group one solo, which is the most difficult uh category of voice solos in the state of Indiana. She qualifies to travel to Indianapolis in two weeks to perform at state solo and ensemble. So, congratulations to her. And then also, our high school orchestra students who participated in solo and ensemble this past Saturday uh represented our school very well. The following students received a gold rating on their solo ensemble. Uh Catherine Burton and Avery Tompkins. The string quartet made up of Bree Hash, Taylor Denton, Catherine Burton, and Maddie Berlin
also performed for comments only. Way to go. Well done by everybody. A sincere thank you goes to Clinton Birch, Tessa Walker, and Don Hossetter, who's oftentimes behind the scenes, uh for all their hard work on the changes occurring to our work-based learning program. Mr. Birch piloted the work-based learning coordinator position this year, and we are gradually adopting uh adapting our current work-based learning structure to meet the needs of the new graduation requirements. Uh the girls basketball team did not advance beyond the first game in sectionals, but we are still very proud of them. Wanted to thank them very much for all their hard work. And good luck to the boys team as they gear up for the last quarter of their season. Uh we start off March Madness with boys sectionals starting on March 3rd.
Uh the bowling team uh its run to state ended at semi-state last week, but we're still really proud of them. Wanted to thank the coaches and our bowlers for a fantastic season, and we look forward to seeing them out on the lanes next year. I do believe we're going to be presenting them to you guys next month. Awesome. >> [clears throat] >> Oh boy. SAT preparation and testing. Um our faculties are actively preparing our students uh for the SAT. Uh the English classes are focusing on non-fictional text analysis and summary skills. And in math, uh they are currently focused on the algebra one portion uh and here within the next couple weeks, they'll be moving on to the geometry and algebra two. Uh progress continues on the PCAP pathway development. PCAP stands for pathways to
careers and post-secondary opportunities. Uh we have a study visit to Vincennes Lincoln High School uh here in April. All right. Career discovery meetings will be starting on February 13th and the 24th to assist graduating students with post-secondary planning. Um those are actually hosted by the military. And then we have several scholarships that are now open. Um several memorial scholarships including the Ryan Wilcoxson and the Fennessy memorial scholarships, um which are being promoted to the senior class. Wanted to shout out again to the Buskirk family, the custodians, and all the volunteers for their dedication in putting together a smoothly run operation as we hosted girls sectional. Uh we had a large number of people here and uh it went really really smoothly. They did a fantastic job um and they represented us very very well. Uh
finally, I would like to acknowledge all the hard work and dedication of our bus drivers and transportation department. Uh February 22nd is our bus driver appreciation day. Um but I just wanted to let them know that we appreciate them uh more than they know. So, thank you. Harry? Yes. Did uh Crane get a hold of you about the scholarships? Not yet. I told her to get a hold of you. >> Okay. Been my uh are you talking about Crane? >> Crane Credit Union. Yeah, yes, yes, they did. >> Lori got a hold of you? >> Yes, yes, and we got we already got that up there. >> [cough] >> So, thank you very much. Thank you. Yeah, I got the minutes cuz I don't have to get to Wyatt. Okay. I have very important announcing.
Uh I think Miss Quimby is going next. Uh all right, school news. [clears throat] The uh let's see, attendance for January was 95.74% for the entire school. Leading the way with sixth grade again with 96.42%. So, I think that's their second month in a row that they have been in the top attendance. So, congratulations to sixth grade. Our enrollment is at 343 right now. So, exactly the same as we were in January. My shout out um to- today goes to our music department, Mr. Drummond and Mrs. Ogle for all the work that went into preparing students for the ISMA competition this last weekend. They put in a ton of time and effort and it showed in a big way. At the middle school, we had several students compete. Um and I'm proud to share that
all of our band competitors earned gold ratings. So, that's awesome. We had all gold. And then our choir and orchestra students brought home both gold and silver ratings, both phenomenal um job. So, congratulations to our students and a huge thank you to the music staff for the preparation support and always keeping high expectations for our students. Um I also wanted to shout out Mrs. Leslie Kimmel. Last week was counselor appreciation week and um we tried to celebrate her as much as possible, but there are no words to express all the work that she does for us every single day. Um she's very good at stopping problems before they start and if you know in a middle school, there's always a problem. So, um I appreciate her more than she knows. Uh I also want to
shout out special ed staff, uh Dina Pretty, Karen White, um Janelle Zuxworth, Lindsey Bailey. We've been doing ACRs for fifth and sixth grade this past week, um which is all day process. Um we have lots of meetings and they run them smoothly, efficiently, um and I appreciate all of their efforts for that. I also wanted to shout out our custodians. One, I wanted to welcome Levi back because he is a phenomenal custodian and everyone was excited when we heard that he was back. Um but also, I heard that they came in when we were all at home warm under blankets during the snow days, they came in um and worked and I appreciate that work behind the scenes doing that work. I also have attended many ball games and different things and the amount of
salt that they've had to clean up over the last couple of weeks is a lot. Um and so I appreciate them for always doing it with a smile even though it's not an easy job. Thank you to bus drivers and maintenance um for getting our kids here safely and making sure we've had salt and sand and everything in the parking lot so that we could navigate into the building safely. I do have some upcoming events. Star Lab is happening this week with all grades. Um so thank you to our science teachers for putting this on. Um Alex was already trained so he was ready for it but I had two science both Elizabeth and Mandy went to the training in August to make sure that they were ready for it to come um which I
know takes a load off of Alex not having to do all the grade levels so I appreciate the science department for getting that together. Our winter formal for middle school is coming up on February 21st. It will be at 6:00 p.m. We are excited to see everyone dressed up and um dancing the night away. Fourth and fifth grade also has a production of 101 Dalmatians coming up on February 26th. It's at 7:00 p.m. That was a grant that Mrs. Drummond worked really hard to get so that we could put on that show. I'm excited to see all of our Dalmatians. And then lip sync is coming up on March 2nd. Um so if you know lip sync is a big deal in middle school. It will um surely be an event not to miss. I
think 90s mashup is the theme this year. So if you're a fan of 90s music then you should have a have a good time. Other than that thanks to all of you and then >> it's oldies for the kids. Mhm. Yeah. >> [laughter] >> The great oldies. Yep. We're there. We've made it. >> [laughter] >> And you have to cut out >> I'm turning out. Yeah, I'm going this way. Thank [clears throat] you. Yep. I'm going to keep my end short and sweet cuz I am on the tail end of sickness here um which leads me to my very first shoutout. I just want to thank my entire staff last week. I missed a couple of days. Um I appreciate Doug. I appreciate Allison. Um all my teachers stepping up. One of my teachers came
to me on Friday and she's like, "Hey, you just have to tell us when you need us. We are here for you." So I just appreciate that and even Erica um during the meeting she's like, "Do you need me to run and get you anything?" I'm okay. I just sound really bad. So um I just wanted to start with a huge thank you to them. Uh enrollment at the elementary school is at 384. Our attendance overall is 95.33%. Uh with a special shoutout to third grade. I think they were um our highlight last month as well with a 98.58%. So everyone's doing a great job. Um I want to take a minute to thank everyone for the role they played in our e-learning days. Um I know it takes a village to make those successful
so I just want to thank the teachers for creating the engaging lessons. Um students for making it a priority to log in and get their work done and also families at home who are juggling multiple kids and working with everything. I know that that is not easy so I just would like to say thank you for your collective efforts in keeping our kids safe. Um I would also like to um wish Miss Tasha a happy school counselor appreciation week. I was not here most of last week so I didn't get to celebrate with her. Um she is phenomenal. We couldn't do it without her and then we ended it with her birthday on Friday. So um I hope she felt the love last week. I want to thank our PTO for providing our Super Bowl
lunch on Friday. It was a great way to end the week and I know the teachers really appreciated that. Speaking of PTO, we do have a meeting this week Wednesday 5:30. Um if you've been thinking about coming to PTO, you should come. They're small but they're mighty and they get a lot of stuff done. They have a Valentine's Day date night planned for Saturday. So it's um from 3:00 to 8:00. $20 a student, $10 for siblings. Uh snacks and pizza will be provided. So if you're looking for child care so you can go um have a fun date night on Valentine's Day, the PTO has you covered. Uh then looking ahead to the week of February 23rd, it's going to be an exciting week in the elementary school in addition to the book fair which
is just everybody's favorite week. >> yeah. That week um we are going to host Wonder Lab for a school visit on Monday. Tuesday night we're going to have a family STEM night. Um and then on the 26th we will do the mini musical with fifth grade. So 101 Dalmatians. So those are the highlights from the elementary school. Great. How many students you have? 384. 384. Mhm. I'm not sure what those add up to but I know our count day that we reported to the state on the second count day was 1075. And that's I think we were either 1075 or 1076. Well, which is good. Cuz usually just just about every school there's some drop off and we've had some leave but we've enrolled some as well. And we have a meeting with a family
on Wednesday. That's looking to bring a couple students. So As of 1069. Okay. So that's that's down a little bit from what we had at that count day. It's all right. Um I have just a few items. I I too want to thank all the teachers and uh staff and families for their patience as we work through the snow. Um we we we recognize that virtual learning uh brings challenges um probably more so in our younger grades than the older grades. Uh but uh we we do appreciate all the assistance that that the parents uh gave us and all the work that the teachers put in um under a not ideal situation. Um we did use one of our uh snow makeup days. So that brings me to my next thing. Um we will I
just want to remind everyone we will be in session on Monday, February 16th. Uh this was originally a snow makeup day or a professional development day. Uh but with being out for a week with snow, we added two traditional snow days in there. We will make up one of them here and we're still waiting to hear from the state about our waiver for the other one. I anticipate that we will get that so uh we will communicate that um as we learn more about that. Um I also want to thank Dennis, Marcus, David, and Neil, our transportation and maintenance department for all of their work outside moving the snow. Um not only was there a lot of snow, it was bitterly cold. So it took a little bit extra effort and uh What kind of
snow equipment do we have? >> Uh we have um a plow on the truck. We have a tractor uh that has that we use and then we have um a smaller tractor or lawnmower that we use on sidewalks and then the rest we use uh natural muscle and just shovel it and move it away. So um but they they spent a lot of time and and effort getting that done for us. Um so I I can't thank them enough for their efforts. Uh We went through a lot of sand. We sanded a lot of hills that are not our responsibility but it helps get our kids here a little sooner. I do want to commend the uh the county as well. They they really got out there and hit the roads pretty hard on this
with just a lot of snow. So Uh I know they catch a lot of flack sometimes but they were really on it with the snow and um just so so cold. It was a lot of work to get through that. So Doug at the sectional that the those sectional games that I've been at, I have had multiple families comment about how good of a job that our school has done with snow removal and how how it's not like that at their school. So that's nice to hear. Well, I will pass that on to our our team that did that. So I I certainly want to thank them. Uh Mr. Kirkendall touched on this but being not that far removed from being a high school principal, I I clearly understand what goes into running a sectional.
And there's so many things behind the scenes. So I do also want to thank uh Mr. Buskirk and all of those that were involved. I mean it's just there's so much time and effort. Uh the planning, the pre-meetings, and then everything that happens during a game. Um and all the people that have to volunteer to help with it. So certainly want to thank all of those people for their efforts. Um as the winter starts to break, I mean our weather's getting a little better. Doesn't mean we're not going to get any more but as that continues to happen, um I just want to let our community know you'll start seeing more and more signs of our upcoming construction that will be taking place on both campuses. Um while it will not disrupt any of our
learning, you will start to see signs of it. We actually had uh some some contractors here today just starting to look at the roofs um and checking out some staging areas and so forth. So you that that's really coming around the corner. Um I will give more and more updates at each of the board meetings um and talk about some of that as well. And that's all I have. Okay. Jared? I I want to throw out another thank you to everybody doing the snow removal. That is There are so many parking lots and sidewalks on both campuses and it's it's incredible how how good a job of everybody did. I will add our equipment did take a beating. So we we we've got some uh replacement parts ordered. Now the county uh we were um
I didn't mean to interrupt. I'm sorry. The the county did apply for some um emergency funds from FEMA. And we will all get to combine all the school county schools. And so some of the repairs on our equipment, sand, and things like if there's wages and stuff we can include in that. If we get it, I don't know but we can at least apply for it. That money has been said that it would be available. So just want to add that. Okay. I'm sorry. Yep. I just want to let Cara know that starting tomorrow our microelectronics mobile van to go to classrooms and provide hands-on activities related to microelectronics is starting. Their first trip is tomorrow to Shoals. So, if Kristen gets a hold of you, that's something that we're getting started on. So, we
were helping her load that van today. So, it's fun. So, it's all the way from, you know, kindergarten all the way up. So, it'll be fun. Different kind of activities there, hands-on activities. So. And they bring it into the classroom. They bring it in the classroom. All right, yeah. We'll bring out the cool van and all the stuff and roll it off and set it up in the classroom or space and run some activities from it. Yep, it's for exposure. Yeah. That's all I have. Al. I don't really have anything. Al. Um, I don't have anything that hasn't already been said. I just, you know, when when you we know that the Buskirks work tirelessly all the time. But, when you're witnessing it again, you're like, "Wow." You know, so. And that's all the Buskirks.
Yes, it's the whole family. Yes, yes. So, as someone who's involved with a lot of things myself, like, I truly [clears throat] appreciate those families that do that. And it it it shows. And our students, I'm pretty proud of them, too, because watching how some of these other schools left our building trashed with like not taking the responsibility of throwing their things away and just that's someone else's job. I don't think that we have that same attitude here and I think it's because our leadership does a really good job of saying like, "No, you know, we're going to be good character and good teammates and good um good people, good humans." And it's nice to see that. Thank you. Can we come back to me for a second? >> [laughter] >> I know. Oh, yeah.
No, you already passed. >> It it's a it's a compliment, but you saying that reminded me of something. I met somebody in the world um last week and um she was highly complimentary of the kids we send to Hoosier Hills. She's a Hoosier Hills employee and she said you can our our students are some of the most polite and helpful students that they have and she was just really complimentary. So, I wanted to throw that in there. Yes. Um, I just want to congratulate Kobe Sykes on Thursday night scoring his thousandth point. He's a good young man. Represents Eastern very well. His [snorts] family represents Eastern very well and scored a thousand points as a junior. >> a junior, yeah. In basketball? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's that says a lot. So, he uh It was
it was fun. I was part of the countdown. 16 [laughter] down. It was it was fun. So, but just congratulations to him. I the staff did an amazing job getting through that week. That was a tough week on everybody. Props to our entire staff. So. All right. With that being said, um recommend we adjourn the meeting at 7:12 p.m. Do I have a motion? Dennis? Second? Sharon?
