in executive session. That being said, can we please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. There was no silence this week. Bless you. >> [gasps] >> 3.02, accept district vote results. Resolved that the Board of Education does hereby accept the results of the May 19th, 2026 budget vote and the board member election as audited by the district clerk, Alberta Pedro. Do I have a motion? Mr. McFarland, second, Ms. Kemp. Sorry. >> [sighs] >> All those in favor? Yes.

I would like to congratulate our three, uh, members that got elected, Ms. Meade and Dr. Shukat. Welcome, and we will be seeing you up here on July 1st. Looking forward to working with you. Dr. Bond. Thank you very much, President Johnson. A lot of celebration this evening and for good reason. We're going to be hearing from our students and we're going to celebrate one of our board members momentarily, but tonight is a true celebration of what has transpired in our community over the years. We have worked together through some very, very challenging circumstances, and we still have challenges today. But, as long as we continue to work together, and our main goal is to make a positive impact in the lives of others, we are going to be successful. I want to thank our entire

community, those who voted, those who supported this budget. Thank you so much. It's something that we take very seriously here, and we will own up to what we indicate that we plan to do, which is again to make a positive difference. I also would like to congratulate Trustee Odums on his re-election, as well as soon-to-be Trustee Meade and Trustee Shoe Cat on their election. I would like to thank the Board of Education for their overwhelming support of this budget. I would like to thank our staff for going out there and doing the good work every day. This is a testament to you, and of course to our families. Thank you for supporting your children and our students, and our school district. And to our students here tonight, we're extremely proud of you and all the

work that you've done, and we look forward to another awesome, even though we're not quite yet done with this school year. We look forward to a tremendous end of the school year, as well as a phenomenal start to next year. And with that, thank you again, everyone. There's one person I'd like to give an extra shout-out to, Ms. Alberta Pedro, our district clerk. I don't know if anybody realizes this this amazing woman starts in January and works diligently on the election every year and we are just very blessed to have her as our district clerk. I don't There's no district that is as lucky as we are in Wappingers. >> [applause] >> 4.01, Superintendent spotlight on programs on life skills. Thank you again, President Johnson, members of the Board of Education, members of the Wappingers

Central School District community. This evening we are going to highlight some of the phenomenal work that is being done in our special education department. And it truly is special because we aim to personalize the educational experience for all and every student within the Wappingers Central School District. One of the programs that we're going to highlight this evening uh does exactly that and it is my pleasure to introduce the assistant superintendent for special education, Dr. Dan Wilson. Dr. Wilson? Thank you, Dr. Bonk. And my problem is I'm 6-ft tall and these microphones will adjust a bunch of times. Thank you, Dr. Bonk and the Board of Education. Um thank you, Wappingers community. Very excited to be here tonight to highlight our two life skills programs at our two uh middle schools. So, I'm not going to

come up here and speak for long, but over the last 10 Well, 11 months now I should guess I should say since I've been here, um it's really been a privilege to lead the Special Ed Department and get to see these great students um and their work. So I'm going to take a step back because the true um people that we want to shine tonight for me is uh my assistant directors and my teachers who put in all the hard work into these programs on a daily basis. So I'd like to start off with uh Wappingers Junior High School, where we're at tonight, and my assistant director for special education, Ms. Shayna Cruz, and our teacher, Ms. Katherine Ricker. >> [applause] >> Thank you, Dr. Wilson. No, no, that's okay. That's okay. Yep. >> [laughter]

>> So we had a great budget vote. We have a great turnout, and we have great coffee at Wappingers Junior High School. And it's all because of Ms. Ricker and your fabulous business model. I will give you the microphone to explain. Okay. Um so each week um on Fridays, we deliver coffee to the adults in the building. Um the students are the ones that write up the orders, prepare the cups, prepare everything. They do the deliveries, they do the money. They are responsible for doing um all of the jobs. And it teaches them a lot of real life skills. They They're learning money skills, they're learning social skills, um and they actually truly love Friday's coffee cart. We start preparing on Thursday, but we do all the making and delivering on Friday and they love

it. So, we have a little presentation for you to give you a really nice idea of what our coffee cart looks like and here it is. Hi, I'm Catherine Ricker. I am a communications teacher at Wappingers Junior High School and my students and I do a coffee cart every Friday for all the adults in the building. This presentation was made by the students here in Wappingers Junior High School with the collaboration of my students and our daily spotlight students who who are just starting up. They worked really hard for quite a few weeks to put this presentation together, but it's entirely the kids that did it. They chose what to show when, they chose the music, they did the wording, they wrote scripts, they worked very hard along with my students to make this presentation possible. I would like my guys who are

here tonight to come on up here. Come on. >> [applause] >> These are the guys that deserve the real hand. >> [applause] >> Yeah, come on. And of course we can't forget Miss Lilly. >> [applause] >> Great job Bob Junior. Next up we want to highlight our other middle school, Van Wyck, and with them I have assistant director of special education Mr. Chad Richter and classroom teacher, and I know I'm going to say her last name wrong, Eva Latizia. Come on up. >> [applause] >> So, Mrs. Legesi has asked me to do most of the speaking here. So, I just wanted to say first a big thank you to Dr. Bonk for giving us this opportunity to highlight everything great that's going on at Van Wyck Junior High School. We have, of course, members of

the administration here who make everything possible. In addition to that, we have Ms. Letizia who is basically the spearhead and the driving force of the Griffin Cafe. We have dedicated teachers who have come out to support our students. Here, we have some support staff including Ms. Mara who made a large portion of the video that we have. And some support staff members here as well that volunteered to show their support to the Griffin Cafe. All of that being said, I don't think I could do the introductions half as well as our kids could. So, I'd like to call some of our students up to introduce the video. >> [applause] [applause] >> Hi, my name is Gabe. >> [clears throat] >> I look forward to the to Friday Cafe. Hi, my name is Alpha. So you guys can all try the amazing cookies that our students make. Before we finish up, what I would love to do is to get all of our kiddos that are here today up front here for a picture with the Board of Education and any of the support staff that's here from these programs that came out to support the

Great job with your introductions. Great job. >> Mhm. >> Great job, guys. Thank you so much for sharing with us. 4.0 two Dr. Bonk? We do have to go on. We're just going to have to do it with them in the background. Thank you very much, President Johnson. Once again, thank you to our students and staff for doing a phenomenal presentation, and we appreciate you and the work that you do every day. I also need to thank Principal Thompson from Wappingers Junior High School and Principal Castro from Van Wyck Junior High School and their administrative teams for overseeing these fine programs. So,

could we give them a round of applause too for their leadership? Speaking of leadership, I am very very I am very very pleased to recognize our Board of Education Vice President Cheryl Megill and I have a letter here from Mr. Patrick Longo from the New York State School Boards Association. And he writes, "Dear Ms. Megill, I would like to congratulate you for earning a Level Three Board Mastery Award under Nisbet's Board Excellence Recognition Program. This program is designed to acknowledge school board members who strive to continually expand their governance knowledge and skills. It's comprised of four achievement levels that are reached by accumulating points for participating in Nisbet training workshops, events, and activities, as well as for taking on board-related roles such as board president and Nisbet BC advocate Excuse me, Nisbet advocacy liaison. Again,

congratulations on your achievement. And on behalf, I'd like President Johnson to come up with me here. So, on behalf of the Wappingers Central School District, as well as the Board of Education, we would like to present this award to Vice President Meggett's for her outstanding service. Thank you, Vice President Meggett's. Thank you very much. Thank you. I would just like to add one one additional item. Um Today, I had an opportunity to go watch our unified basketball team, and I have to tell you, they can shoot. I could not believe I mean, they're they were shooting three-pointers. Number 10, Dr. Number 10. Number 10. It It was absolutely unbelievable. Uh so, I'd like to to give a shout-out to our unified basketball program, Coach Walsh, coach Perry, everybody involved in that program uh from our

high schools, just a phenomenal opportunity and a great event today. Really enjoyed it. Very proud of our students. Thank you. You're talking about one of the programs that Trustee Migliaccio and myself go to on a regular basis that we absolutely love. We were able to make the Fill the Stands I had something this afternoon, so I couldn't make it to that one, but uh I sat with Dr. Dan for his first unified buddies game and he was uh it was a a lot of fun to sit there and watch our kids enjoy it as well. It's the one time I get to watch coaches smile so hard and just from the regular sports and and it brings joy to them and it's I love those kids. They are just amazing to watch. So, 5.01, public

comments on agenda items only. Seeing none. 5.02, communication communications and announcements received from the Board of Education. Does anybody have anything they wish to speak about? Mr. Capellari. Thank you, President Johnson. Over the last few weeks, it's been pretty busy. As you notice, a lot of activities going on in the towns around us, especially between the town of Wappingers Community Day last week, as well as a very busy schedule here at the schools with uh two uh Memorial Day events, one being hosted over at uh RCK and the other at uh John Jay earlier this morning. Before we get into the meaning and the importance of Memorial Day, uh I kind of want to wind back to uh the Festival of the Festival of the Arts, which took place there in in Village of Wappinger.

Aside from just all the great artwork being done by our students and the amount of community involvement, there was something that was rather almost quiet and subtle, yet very effective in all of these events. And that is our facilities and grounds people and transportation. Putting this kind of stuff up day in and day out in heated weather and all kinds of other stuff isn't easy, yet they do it. They often are seen in the background, but they make it happen. We would be extremely remiss if we just didn't take the time to thank them because it's often easy to complain when something doesn't go right, but when it does, it's easier to remain silent. Let us not be silent and let us just say thank you because it does make a difference. As for Memorial

Day, the schools within the Wappingers district uh have a very long and rooted history of military traditions. We cannot express just a thank you and gratitude. The excitement of the students, the interactions with them, the staff, the timing, the preparation, a lot of this is often missed when we just concentrate on one aspect. Everything we've done as veterans and to those whom Memorial Day is for, those who perished and never made it home. We uh we cannot say thank you enough for helping honor their memory. Uh for as I once read, as long as names are mentioned and stories are told, no event can erase them from the memory of time. Thank you, Mr. Cappellari. Ms. Kellen. In addition to the um Memorial Day observances, there was in the last couple of weeks the history

honors, Italian honors at John Jay, uh Spanish honors at RCK, uh business honors, art honors, uh junior honor society, a great number of events, and it was a pleasure to attend them. The students do such fine work. Also, Art in the Park last Saturday. The groundskeepers spend hours putting up those stakes. The art teachers spend hours collating the work and uh displaying it and writing up descriptions. The music department had many different groups at at all levels of achievement which showcase the work of our students and the inspiration they get from our teachers. And it was so uh extensive. I was there from 9:00 till 2:30, and before I could and I didn't see everything. And uh if any of you of the public hasn't been in the past, I suggest that you attend some

year. Thank you. Thank you. So, at Art in the Park, I believe we had just over 16,000 16,400 pieces of artwork that day alone. Um it was a phenomenal feat done by both our our facilities and our our teachers. The countless I would say more than hours. I'm going to say weeks preparing that these teachers and students did for these events, and we are just so grateful they shared it with us. I also was able to do the RCK Business Honor Society as I stated the Unified John Jay basketball game over I guess I believe it was Arlington. Yes, fulfill the stands day and we have some really good players that should just be on the regular team because they're maybe as good or better. Just saying. We also had a curriculum meeting. We've had

the Fishkill East Fishkill I'm sorry Fishkill Plains police officer remembrance. We've had several um Memorial Day celebrations and also this past Monday Central Hudson presentation for the project-based learning and I was able to go to that. It was amazing this year. It was all digital. Um so they were able to craft different ways that you had to learn about the waves and the the way electricity works and how other things work with the electricity and it was virtual escape rooms that the children had to create regarding like if the electricity went out and you had to figure out why and how. Again, our Board of Education vote. I had the 20th John Jay Spanish Honor Society which was amazing. We had the Art Honor Society and the Wappingers Junior National Honor Society as of yesterday.

This morning Dr. Bonk and I were able to go to the BOCES graduation breakfast. So that was amazing and then this afternoon we had the John Jay Business Honor Society. I would like to thank everyone again for going out and voting and then tomorrow is I guess the culmination of uh my week and I believe Trustee Maggett's as well because most people know that we follow Project Winner Circle. Both teams are amazing and tomorrow is the big final for that. So, we are excited about going to Lime Rock to watch the presentations of both high schools and I know one of them's going to win. I mean, Wappingers will win. Just which one I don't know. Um and also um kudos to Coach Mealy. We are still in sectional playoffs over at RCK and that

game is tomorrow night as well. Unfortunately, John Jay did not advance to the next part of the section playoffs, but they had one heck of a season and we are extremely proud of that team as well. So, Miss Maggett's? >> Yes. This is always one of the busiest weeks of the school year. And um I'd like to congratulate the students that we inducted into the Art Honor Society at Ketcham yesterday, as well as the 36 business students at John Jay who were inducted today. And last night there were 128 junior high students filling these seats to be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society, which uh is an amazing accomplishment. Um as trust as President Johnson said, this is Winner's Circle Week and we traveled out to Lime Rock the other day to watch our

teams um cars go through the performance testing. Trustee Mondesando was able to come along with us and fulfill a bucket list dream and go out onto the proving grounds track with Mr. Bliss in the Ketcham car. Oh, you went with Mr. Roosa in the John Jay car. I'm sorry. Yes. Um and you went with Mr. Roosa as well. >> Yes. And I went with Mr. Bliss. Uh tomorrow we are looking forward to seeing the marketing presentations for both teams. Um it was a very full day on Tuesday because after the winter circle project, I had to go across the river uh for an event and I stopped in Red Hook to meet a friend and I got to actually attend an away game for our unified basketball team and watch them um go against the

Red Hook Raiders and just from the moment the game started, our Titans were on fire. Um and I want to congratulate John Jay baseball on a very strong season. I uh spoke with Coach Tierney and one of the seniors this morning at the assembly at John Jay and just wanted them to know how much we all appreciate the efforts that they put forth out on the on the field. It just wasn't their day the other day. And I want to uh congratulate RCK baseball who is moving ahead in the playoffs playing tomorrow night as President Johnson said and RCK softball who is in the uh section one playoffs. Yeah, I forgot to check the softball scores this week. Okay. Uh no one else? Mr. Morgan. We've already said thank you um to the community um

but being I guess a a numbers guy, I just wanted to uh quantify that. Um several years ago there was some satisfaction um by um the district leadership and and board uh that the that the budget was passed with more than a 60% plurality. Um, for is it the second year in a row, Dr. Bonk? The the budget passed with more than 70% support from from our community. We appreciate the support and are thankful for the hard work that that the the people sitting over there, including Assistant Superintendent Dainty and Dr. Bonk put into putting the budget together that our community has come together and and supported so resoundingly. Um, the other thing that I wanted to mention after everybody has spoken about all of the honor society induction ceremonies that as board members we

get invited to. Um, something that was at least special to me and I'll apologize right now if I uh when I get choked up. Um, I was very proud um, to be able to announce a a new scholarship um, that will be awarded on June 11th at John Jay's senior night in in honor of Peter John Brent who passed away this past September. Um, it's noteworthy um, that a teacher who retired in uh in the 1980s um, still has such friendships amongst his students um, from and I went to school then from from so long ago um, that in in in his honor um, to fund this scholarship in excess of $25,000 has already been raised from from peers of his um, but mostly from from alumni that admired him as a as a teacher.

So a John Jay business student for decades to come. Will receive a scholarship in Peter Brent's honor based on the generosity of of alumni and we congratulate those inductees earlier today all 36 of them and it's probably likely that that one of them will will be a scholarship winner on June 11th and some of the underclassmen will have that opportunity in the future. Thank you for your time on that. Thank you Mr. Morgan and thank you for speaking today. That was beautiful what you said. So let's go to our student board members. Emma, let's start with you. As everyone mentioned this past weekend we held our our in the park event where many of our students showcase their incredible talents and creativity and we also had yesterday our art National Honor Society induction. Today we

have Junior Prom. And our assembly. We wish them safe and memorable memorable evening as I was coming here I saw them all walking in and they looked very excited. Last night we hosted our college commitment ceremony. We recognize the exciting future plans and accomplishments of most of our seniors. There were good like 20 of them. That got like recognized for their accomplishments and we held our Memorial Day ceremony. It was truly beautiful and meaning of meaningful event. Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve our country. Looking ahead we have our senior breakfast that is on May 27th and we will also be receiving our yearbooks that day. Yes, thank you. Miss Winter. Hello everyone. Again, it's absolutely amazing to be here with you all. As Miss Migits mentioned earlier, the Winter

Circle display is tomorrow and a very very well anticipated event for everyone in the Wappingers Central School District community. And I just want to take a minute to ruminate on the fact that this event speaks to the success and the efficacy of our programs in project-based learning. You know, here's the thing you guys, not everyone learns with a pencil and a paper getting lectured. Some people learn better with their hands and it's our job, you know, as a school district to let that flourish. And I believe, you know, the way we've let this excel really shows that the opportunity we give these students as Wappingers Central School District is unparalleled. Cap and gown pickup for seniors was this Tuesday and Wednesday. And this is going to be followed by a variety of senior events happening

not next week but the week after with senior breakfast, senior prom, and the obviously the um pre-prom ceremony to help prevent a DUI drinking and driving. John Jay High School also had its Memorial Day ceremony this morning. And I want to make it absolutely clear that those in service who make the ultimate sacrifice don't get thanked enough. And these events are absolutely pivotal in making sure that those in service are recognized and are recognized with honor and that they constantly occupy a space in our heads, you know, with how lucky we are to have these people who have died for our freedom right to be here today and for everyone's right to speak and to exist in a free and safe America. Um and I'm very happy to report that on behalf of John Jay

High School, I will be reading from the Declaration of Independence for the town event for the 250th anniversary of America. Thank you guys very very much. Congratulations. Thank you, Miss Ross. Wonderful. 6.01 consent agenda. Does anybody wish to pull anything from the consent agenda? Miss Mondesando. Uh 6.03 line 48. Thank you. Anyone else? Seeing none, resolve that the Board of Education does hereby approve the following consent agenda items as stated. 6.02, 6.03 with the exception of 6.03 line 48, 6.04, 6.05, 6.06, 6.07, 6.08, 6.09, 6.10, 6.11, and 6.12. Do I have a motion? Miss Callan, second. Mr. McFarland, all those in favor? Unanimous. Resolve that the Board of Education does hereby approve consent agenda item 6.03 line 48. Motion? Mr. McFarland, second. Miss Callan, all those in favor? Mr. McFarland, Miss Callan, Miss Meggitt, Marie

Johnson, Mr. Morgan, Mr. Capellari, all those abstaining? Miss Mondesando. Um I believe it's under personal reasons. Sorry. 7.01 approval of the 25 district-wide renovations phase two survey proposals. Resolved that the Board of Education does hereby approve the recommended survey proposals in relation to the 2025 capital project as recommended by the district's architect through Superintendent of Schools. One, Myers Corner Elementary School, prepare partial boundary and topographic survey for the specific area relative to the planned site circulation and parking improvements, lump sum fee $19,500. Two, Wappingers Junior High School and John Jay High School, prepare partial topographic surveys for special areas relative to the planned site improvements at Wappingers Junior High School to accommodate additional bus lanes and parking, delineate required wetlands flagging as identified by the nice deck at John Jay High School, lump sum fee

$12,900. Do I have a motion? Mr. McFarland, second Ms. Callan. Um, just a little quick background. This is work that's being planned for this summer and we need to get these surveys done before we can start that actual work, so that's why we're asking for this. All those in favor? Unanimous. 7.02, approval of authority to approve change orders up to $20,000 for the 2025 capital projects. Whereas on May 20th, 2025, the qualified voters of the Wappingers Central School District District approved a ref- erendum to construct improvements and additions to and reconstruct school district buildings and facilities, including original furnishings, equipment, machinery, apparatus, and appurtenances, together with site and athletic field improvements and other incidental improvements and expenses in connection therewith at a maximum estimated cost of $153,768 25 20 2025 capital improvements bond referendum, and

whereas the Board of Education recognizes that to enable to work authorized under the 2025 capital improvements bond referendum to proceed without delay and in accordance with the construction schedule, it may be necessary for its onsite representative to review, recommend, and approve authorized change order work up to a limited monetary threshold without first obtaining former board approval. And whereas the assistant director of facilities has been assigned as the Board of Education's onsite representative for work associated with the 2025 capital improvements bond referendum. Now therefore be it resolved that the Board of Education delegates Daniel Asher, assistant director of facilities, the authority to review, recommend, and approve any scope of work that would constitute a change order in an amount not to exceed $20,000 under any contract for construction awarded under the 2025 capital improvements bond referendum.
