Gene Fitzgerald and former board member Joseph in Coronado I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all [Music] thank you foreign one superintendent report [Music] thank you president Lumia members of the Board of Education and members of our community thank you for being with us this evening I would like to on behalf of the district office senior staff wish all of you a happy and safe holiday I would also uh refer to the community a letter that I wrote last Thursday to Governor Hogle lieutenant governor Delgado members of the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate in regards to the need for additional targeted funding outside of the school budget
for school safety and Mental Health Services now more than ever we need to ensure that our schools are safe so that our students and staff can work to their maximum potential and that our students can achieve their highest academic social and emotional potential idea most confidence in the police agencies that we work with here throughout Dutchess County as well as the mental health professionals that we have that we've worked with through the Dutchess County Department of Health to become more involved in our schools to ensure that that type of environment exists we currently spend over one million dollars in this year's budget and I would like to thank the Board of Education for the additional school resource officer program as well as having trained uniformed police officers to some extent within our 10 elementary schools
in addition to that we spend over three million dollars on student Mental Health Services that's quite frankly is not enough obviously my hope is that the state understands that superintendents in Boards of Education May face difficult decisions to ensure that we have a fiscally responsible budget to our taxpayers as one that provides our staff and students with the programs and services that they need to expect to pull at least four and a half million dollars out of our education budget May mean that we're forced to make a decision between school safety and Mental Health Services or programs and services for our students that is not a position that I want to be in so I am hoping again that our state government understands that we're coming back from a pandemic we are a microcosm of
society we need to do everything we can to remediate the learning loss as well as assist those students who are coming back to us with social and emotional issues so that's my plea and I'm very hopeful that it will be strongly considered thank you prepare for the Border like to wish you a Merry Christmas and of course a happy New Year with that being said we're going to spotlight programs I should take computer science good nuts for coding so we have Mr Remick who's going to be coming up here Dr Cardwell are you going to be involved in this or director Shelton no Mr remnick is growing nuts and he's going nuts for coding and for those of you who do not know what codeine is it is an integral part of the Wappinger Central
School District tonight you're going to learn about what our students are doing in regards to coding how it makes them Scholars and How It prepares them for the future opportunities in today's world so Mr Remick go nuts all right thank you Dr bonken to the entire board of education for having us here tonight I brought three of the uh students who did some of the coding in some of the classes FBLA which is future Business Leaders of America and we participated in the Galleria Mall computer science unplugged events so first I like to call up some of the students so if they could come over to the podium so Amir was sick didn't go to school today so he is not here tonight but we have Nathaniel hum come on over guys don't be shy
it's all right Sherman Hawk and Derek Carr so let's give them a hand to these three students volunteered their time on a Saturday at the Galleria mall for several hours to help younger students learn about computer science there was many different groups that were there so it's called CS unplugged that's the guy on gallery of all Jocelyn Humphreys at John Jay was the person who organized all this so uh many different schools came to this event there was hundreds of students who could go to the various tables try out things from robotics to drones to what we had video game programming so here's uh our table you can see Siobhan there helping one of the younger students take a look at coding try some of the games and see how some of the games were
made so I'm going to turn it over at this point to some of the students who have created different games and if any of the board members are enthusiastic and often want to try them of course we can let them try them so first name so for my game I program it I programmed it for the future businesses of America club for the computer gaming simulation programming and we placed second place for States and they qualified for Nationals and went to Chicago last year to compete in the national competition the theme was uh 80s arcade game so this was our remake of a popular game called dwarf it's okay baby a Long Way to the Top yes so in the first variation of the game you can attack and defend but for time purposes I'll
speed along they programmed the little exit the screen secret key so they could just Bounce from the screen to screens so in the original game of war if there were multiple levels of different types of games the last one is uh we were also inspired by um Space Invaders oh you can see a little Zelda in there too so it was supposed to be a theme for multiple games from the 90s that actually looks like Galaxy yeah you gotta get that second ship right that's it it's a go through the talenting things all right so and then the next one here is Siobhan who created a catch you game hello Board of Education my name is Sarah monahawk I created this game in Mr romance class computer game design horsey ketchup um it was near
the start of the year so it's pretty simple it's just a game about you trying to catch as much points as possible as you miss three coins then you're out and you try not to catch the Goblins because if you catch the Goblins then they take one of your coins away oh smile so as you guys can see like the coins are going up as I collect them and avoiding the goblets uh to demonstrate and see me collecting the goblins that takes a great sound that background music can use as well so they we try to teach them the aspects of if they want to be coders and designers one day and what goes into a game that's that's one of the things they learned is one of the things they were trying to teach
to the younger kids at this exhibit all right thank you and as Derek expert like this how long does it take you um it doesn't take long I mean if you just work on it for straight power you probably get this like you know but you know I worked on it over like you work they were kind of experienced at this point yeah yeah it's pretty simple relatively simple compared to other games one of the things that I do also over the brakes I was just talking hard about is I wrote a video game design camp for younger kids over the December break at ketchup and the kids pick it up very quickly and they're able to do stuff in a day or so um third fourth graders thank you and then Derek's going to
show you his car racing game so I made a simple car racing game in scratch in Mr ramek's class uh basically it's called drag uh the car it moved the car technically doesn't move the map moves so as you're racing because he's good at it but while you're moving the car doesn't move the map in the background moves the opposite direction but depending on the keys that you input we're doing the mouse Direction Keys yeah he programmed it using DirecTV's but you could program it with the mouse just as easily as the directions so yeah also when you die it's a little animation yeah to restart all right any questions very good excellent you guys have a question what's what was the affiliation um with with FBLA I was just curious I know that's not
what you really came here to talk about but I'm just curious how that how that got tied in okay so future Business Leaders of America as you probably knows the club at Dante and uh there are many different competitions there's probably 80 to 100 competitions either individual or team and Nate and his Partners they entered the computer game simulation category in the FBLA state competition so they went to States in Rochester last year and they competed and they finished second in the state that qualified them to go to Nationals so FBLA has things from business law to accounting to improv speaking to job interview many different aspects that they competed and they happened to choose the computer game situation they'd actually qualified for National institutions that he chose the computer games simulation what was the
other one that you qualified for intro to Information Technology okay congratulations this is twice yeah I'm sorry no this is the scratch programming language which is traded by MIT probably about 10 to 10 years ago and it introduces block programming and logic so it's not like the uh zeros and ones there's a binary type of thing it's a little bit simpler so that kids can learn how to code and encoder semic code so Mr Remick yes you've LED right into my question talk to us a little bit about how their involvement in this can prepare them for some tremendous opportunities in the world of coding how does it evolve from here typically for our students and these guys can talk about is they're into the um Chromebook help desk so now they've been doing that
on three periods or I've done with work my class sometimes say okay go ahead go help them you know and fix some of the code books so they're fixing Chromebooks in the public health center so they're getting tons of experience and it opens up different ideas from them for the future computer science graduates programmers cyber security I was just talking to a good place you know I think I'm interested besides it's like there's a ton of that around lots of jobs and they pay well so I think that it opens up opportunities for that into many Avenues and computer science offices great work thank you one language one last two actual coding presented that enforcement many years ago how difficult to write those particular codes for the you know guys can I can I see
an illustration absolutely so what we're going to do here is guys so we're going to do the C inside here this is I'm not sure if you can see it up there on the overhead I'll make it a little bigger so as you can see here they this is the code for the car is it big enough yep so you can see when I receive a message from another part of the program to start uh it it does all the setup here it sets it as a car here are the costumes for the cars so he's got the explosions here got one says go cheating so as you can see this is the setup and then this is where the code starts so if they press the a key on the keyboard it turns the
car while you're turning the steering wheel and if you press the D key it turns in the other way so this is the basics of programming the car is moving uh there's other keys for move forward move back Etc and then there's other other parts here these are all pictures and this is he's got backgrounds here you know probably have backgrounds in here it's a question so here's the different parts of how the car moves so to answer your question it's a lot easier than Fortran and all those because you had to set up all your variables Etc um over here they basically are clicking uh on things that they're dragging it over and then they make it move around so here's motion here's looks and uh sounds so there is sound to their games
but it's not just connected here and then they have sensing so when it touches the wall or touches an object that's when you stop the game because you know you crashed so they make it easy they call it block programming you just kind of click and drag so much easier than what I learned it too because I was computer science teacher many years ago and uh what your students are doing is excellent It's preparing for your future there's no question about it they built the right game game programs I think it's great and now you have a great future so come I want to thank the teacher and I also want to thank the students thank you [Applause] thank you thank you we did a good job I was there that day at the mall
and they spent about six hours there was a lot of kids there the most important part they know how to do this but they had to explain it to younger kids that don't have the experience so they had a lot of patience yes they did and the kids were surrounded their table the entire time so they were busy the whole six hours 5.01 comments on agenda items Santa hello thank you ladies and gentlemen we are about to list the public comment although the state law does not require us to hold a public company period we chose to because we believe it is crucial for us to hear from our community members about their concerns and issues the board is here to listen the public comment period is not designed to debate or dialogue please do
not expect the board to respond to your concerns and questions tonight we're taking concerns and questions seriously and want to have sufficient time to process and research issues to DP any questions from the public should be submitted to the usual public comment form which can be obtained online or at the desk with the district clerk we are the proper staff member get back to you as appropriate I also want to point out that under state and federal privacy laws we're unable to address any comments or questions about specific students or School Personnel we would ask you to go to the appropriate administrative channels total of 30 minutes at the beginning of each board member paid for a meeting is set aside until not for public comment on the agenda items only public comments beginning is

oh you're right that might want to show communication announcement received by Board of Education and anyone in any Marine thanks no [Music] um I would like to say that um trustee make its and I have spent a lot of time the last two weeks trying to achieve our goals of hitting as many sporting events as possible in concerts in the last two weeks I was able to see winter concerts of the roycie Ketchum 9th grade band orchestras and choir I was also able to see Wappingers Junior High School the first session van wyk Junior High School the section second section gay heads first section prism one and the breakerhoff concerts um we also I was also able to get to the Rory Sea Catch and varsity Wrestling John Jay Junior Varsity Boys Basketball and the
Freshman Basketball and of course John Jay High School's prosceniums A Chorus Line which was absolutely amazing the students did a wonderful job and it was actually very enjoyable to sit there with all of my fellow trustees and our superintendent and got to enjoy some really amazing acting and singing I have to say I think I'm a little bit partial to the musicals um going forward thank you Joe as trustee Johnson said we've been very busy I attended one of the gay head concerts um walk Junior High School's second night uh the prism one concert at rck and Oak Grove's concert as well as the production of A Chorus Line by John J priscinium and did you mention the wrestling yes yes I went to a bowling match between rck and uh John Jay and learned
that these are not the only two schools that use the bowling alley in Fishkill because that same day Arlington Poughkeepsie Carmel and Mahopac were all there bowling section one uses it and it like trustee Johnson said we went to the rck wrestling match saw their first team win of the year and I have a couple of uh congratulations that I'd like to extend to some of the students in our district first one is to Matt mosh who's a wrestler at rck who has started out the season his senior citizen undefeated at 14-0 and he was awarded to outstanding wrestling trophies at um tournaments recently I believe it was at Nyack and Goshen I'd also like to congratulate the 12 members of John J priscinium who were awarded a total of sixty two thousand dollars in
scholarships for summer programs at the New York Conservatory for dramatic arts and I'd like to congratulate our CK senior Jared terzian who was notified this weekend that he has been given a congressional appointment to West Point election anyone else what's the volume thank you president umia um to Echo what's already been said um and maybe said again congratulations um to so many of our students um in particular just because it's um freshest in my mind uh to the the John Jay cast and uh and crew and advisors that put on a great production of of A Chorus Line and I really hope that our entire District community community um takes advantage of the um musical um and and dramatic opportunities um for for family entertainment that uh that is provided on stages across the uh
the school district um and I know um I'll just mention tomorrow evening at uh at John Jay um oh shoot one of our elementary schools has a uh has a concert I believe Fishkill Elementary excuse me my my source is corrected um well you need to hold that further away from me oh there we go Yes concert will be at John Jay followed immediately um by the um the Harvey wetterstein uh scholarship concert which will feature multiple uh uh John Jay performing ensembles um a lot of people may not have been around but Mr letterstein was a was a music teacher um in the district um his um and he passed away um uh young and left behind a a wife who was also a teacher and later an assistant principal at John Jay um
and a daughter graduated from Roy C Ketchum so this is a memorial um uh scholarship concert that's been rescheduled now twice so uh those students are anxious to perform to tomorrow evening um and then I'm also looking forward to on uh Wednesday morning uh joining the um the Dutchess County Business community at uh the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel uh for the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce holiday breakfast where um multiple uh districts and high schools will have um students performing and really looking forward to the performance of uh of one of the Ketchum choirs uh so the the holiday spirit will um will be shared with with the business community and there's the opportunity for um local residents um to come and enjoy multiple performances at our at our district schools uh thank you for
your time anyone else I like to make the same uh thing I've been to several concerts what's your basketball game at Kate uh JV both the varsity and I saw what uh Marie and Cheryl in the front in any event uh the first game we looked at the Jimmy Lord for the second game was extremely exciting Everyone by two points really really great game so so I'm congratulations to all the horizontal exceptional there are those kids or any musicians and friends I'm concerned they could be on Broadway and we we get to see it as board members for free so uh I encourage it says John Marcus I encourage people to put these things and see exactly what these kids have learned throughout the day they start from fifth grade sixth grade play an instrument
and as they progressed to the district they're incredible performers and I wish I could be part of it at the last Spencer is not here but I think congratulations team Spencer for being not named man of the year or the Westchester County detective Association so I'd like to congratulations [Applause] thanks a lot of my agenda a couple of three committee reports Mr Rush Hour Capital as well as withdrawal thank you president Lumia on 12 7 we had our monthly Capital Improvement uh meeting uh my co-chair Mr McFarland was there as well as trustee uh Johnson as well as board President John Lumia uh just to wrap some things up not to be repetitive that I've been saying over the past couple of months but I'll be slightly repetitive uh thankfully our HVAC Renovations project phase
two has been completed final payments should be done this month so I'm happy to say that project is 100 complete our summer phase four project is also complete I'm happy to say a couple of minor punchless items they should all be closed out by the end of the month and turn the end of the year so very happy that we were able to get everything done over the summer that we had planned on in the spring so I'm very happy with that moving forward to our new capital project for the 2020 to 2023 school year our phase one drawings have been submitted to the State education department again fingers crossed that we get approvals back by April that way we can go out to bid in May to June and then have uh the phase
one project started next summer uh and also uh phase two which would be done the following summer uh that is still in the design phase but we're still working on that some very good news to share John Jay Patriot Way with an anticipation of having some big announcement right after the holiday for the new year keep our fingers crossed that weather permitting that will be a 100 percent go so I'm very happy to say that we have completed our uh part of the project we're just waiting for New York State Department of Transportation so again fingers crossed and we should have uh some big announcements coming right after the holiday uh John Jay sump pumps have been completely installed uh just some minor things with some breaker uh electric Breakers to be installed but we
don't anticipate any problems with that so thankfully if we do have any future flooding which fingers crossed we don't uh we'll be able to address that situation in a much better manner than we did the last time so happy to say that's been taken care of as well um we did have some conversations uh Verizon has reached out to us about a potential cell phone tower uh on the rck high school campus still have a lot of logistics to work out but I think that should alleviate some of the cell phone and internet issues that occur in that area again we don't have all the information but hopefully uh Verizon since they reached out to us uh that'll be something they'd be willing to take care of at their expense so I'm happy to say
uh that's something positive for there um that's pretty much it thank you Mike you want to comment on uh the possibility of the schools are going to visit so uh yeah during the capital committee uh there's a question on the ability for the equipment um and we picked a couple of schools up in Connecticut to tour and visit the site so we can actually see how the units perform in those extreme conditions and if the school district itself up there is happy with the type of equipment that's been installed so hopefully we'll have uh six or eight people going on the tour up to the Sheffield School and Fairfield County Schools as well as Martin de pores as uh yeah possibly uh St Martin's the poorest which is a local school in this area maybe
we'll be able to get in there and see it also take care Mike thanks again president Lumia so on Thursday December 8th we had our quarterly municipalities meeting uh I want to thank account supervisors for coming out as they always do very simple just had the superintendent uh as we're getting closer to the budget uh process and budget season believe it or not come January uh the superintendent once again announced they'll be coming out to the local municipalities to do a budget presentation he'll be setting that up with each of the municipalities uh when they have their workshop so he'll come out as he had done last year go through some uh some of the budget process and some things that uh kind of on his wish list as well as things that will be
on our wish list for the upcoming school year also we presented to the town supervisors uh the two resolutions that we had passed at the last board meeting for some tax relief to our seniors 65 and over as well as those uh that um fall under the classification of disabilities again to have some tax relief so we shared that information with the town supervisors to put out on the town website and also for any Town residents to reach out to the assessor's office to help with any of the application processes to receive some tax relief as well so we thought that was a very important thing to share as I mentioned earlier on the Capitol Report we anticipate some positive news with the uh roundabout as well as the new John Jay drop off coming
the new year uh the last thing that we covered was once again the uh great working relationship that's been established over the last several years especially the last two years as Dr Bach has taken over uh a project that was spearheaded uh that I had recommended with regards to the student internships that we had the former director Amy Watkins uh kind of take control over now that she's gone we do have director luzzy uh now in charge of that so it was really just talking with the town supervisors is how we can expand on our student internships as well as community service and more importantly having our students um you know either through internship or an after-school part-time job with our local businesses uh you know to possibly have something to come back to uh
to not only live but you know work in the community as things that we had discussed in the past of you know keeping our kids home who want to stay home and the reason we want to keep them home is have the opportunity so between all the economic development that's going on I think we've done a very good job and as more companies have come coming in after the Amazon Frito-Lay we do have a new Logistics Center coming in East Fishkill we also have a movie studio so there's a lot of diverse things that are coming in so we'll give some of the students some different opportunities so again we wanted to you know solidify that relationship with the supervisors and obviously come up with some other ideas um you know that we can offer
to students so that conversation went well superintendent advised them that again director luzzy has taken over that program and you know to reach out with him and to coordinate so I think that continues to be a positive thing for the students and will continue to build and grow on that as well and that was pretty much uh the gist of the municipalities meeting our next meeting will be uh in April thank you and I'm sorry uh Mr Spencer had attended that meeting as well thank you Morgan thank you president Lumia uh to piggyback on the internships program um if I could call on an impromptu basis on on Dr Bach and how how can people reach Mr lazy do you know his email address off the top of your head Joseph at wcsdny.org thank you
once again joseph.luzzy at wcsdny.org the reason we're smiling is because I've been saying that in many of my appearances since September and Mr luzzy is very very happy that I've been saying that he's been getting the Luminous amounts of email and it's a great thing and that's why he's doing what he's doing and he's doing it very well so we can continue to connect with our community and move forward together thank you for giving me the opportunity to indicate his email which is joseph.luzzy at wcsdny.org thank you thank you for saying that multiple times one once might have done with regard to the uh the January where we'll um really probably have a fuller agenda um including the view of a uh of an RFP that we um as a committee hope to bring forward
to the to the board in the uh in the new year thank you Jen uh legislative action distributes okay the legislative action committee met earlier this evening and trustee slow shower president Lumia and I were in attendance along with our community member Virgil capillary we had two students from one from John Jay and one from rck who were interested in the committee who came today and one of them is interested in serving on the committee and has been voted onto the membership we spent most of the meeting um giving the students a background on what our Charter is and what we've been looking into we set our calendar so our next meeting is going to be January 17th at 5 30 at central office and in leading up to that meeting we're going to be
focusing on trying to meet with some of our newly elected representatives in Washington and Albany and with uh looking at the legislation that is introduced in Albany during the first week of January to um to follow anything that we have been given approval to and to look and see if there's anything else related to education that's introduced thank you Cheryl communication committee Marie yes um we had our communication meeting on December 14th um as you'll see later in the agenda over the last several years actually I've been on this committee starting as a community member back in 2016 all the way to present so I've kind of been hanging around for quite a while on this uh we have worked on multiple different issues over the years and it has come to the point where
we've really we've done as much as we can as a committee what's left to be done is pretty much administrative and Personnel to be able to handle and we have such an amazing relationship with our Administration that when we have concerns we're able to go to them and they they address it right away so later tonight we'll be asking to um disband the communications committee um at this time because we have achieved what we needed to achieve as a committee and if the need ever arises down in the future will be able to re-establish it so that's where we're going to be heading this evening thank I'd like to thank uh Marie for all the work she did on the committee it's been like extensive work I really want to thank her and all the
members that have made it for the work they did so thank you very much Marie I also thank you and all of the members of the committee thank you for your work you have provided us with a solid foundation and some great ideas to move forward so thank you for that next is going to be Dr Conwell curricula committee good evening there are four board members that are on the curriculum committee we have President Lumia vice president Kellen trustee Morgan and trustee migots the curriculum committee met on November 30th the topic was a presentation by director art shouting on technology education he provided a very thorough presentation on the course offerings at the junior high school and the high school levels we asked many questions the meeting lasted well over an hour um Beyond me
a lot of time to almost an hour and a half and we are thankful for uh the time that March shouting gave to the committee members and answering all the questions that we had uh also there will be electives fairs at both of the high schools the first one will be in February uh second at uh John Jay and all parents and students for incoming 9th grade students as well as 10th 11th and 12th grade students will be able to attend the electus fair to see one of those course offerings and you'll be able to ask director Shannon and the teacher Representatives about the technology courses that are being offered at the high school level more information will be shared with the community and the students once those dates have been confirmed the next curriculum
meeting is scheduled for the beginning of February and the topic will be kindergarten to second grade reading instruction specifically the science of reading that's a good perfect I'm not mistaken there's gonna be a presentation versus Shelton regarding the course offerings I believe sometime in February I think we have not confirmed the date but there will be a presentation to the Board of Education that day has not yet been confirmed if you shall did an excellent excellent job I realize how many courses are available to students and I wish they'd take advantage of those particular courses I mean they're extensive and then meaningful in my opinion and I hope everyone takes advantage of those thank you Dr Carl worth your questions thank you policy yes the policy committee met on December 1st and the members include
there included Mr lomia uh Mr Odoms and Miss Johnson and we also have Mr locaema and Miss Pedro as members of the committee uh we uh one of the things we worked on was policy 4321.12 the physical intervention policy and you'll see it's up the third reading this time because we do pay attention to your comments and suggestions and we received those and we worked on them to make the policy even better we also um revised policy 5280 into Scholastic Athletics it's on the uh upper first reading tonight and that also needed some updating to put in those policy in line with what is actually happening in the district and in the section uh then we had a discussion about um uh the State education Department's suggestions for um uh voluntary suggested changes to diversity
equity and inclusion policies and uh the committee discussed it and we all agreed that we are actually covering off they said in our current policies and do not need to uh take their suggested policies there are policies that come from the state that are required and there are ones that just are suggestions if you want to and they're optional and this was an optional one and we felt it would only clutter up the very clear policies we already had that covered everything right I like to thank Ms Pedro for all the work she does with that particular that's for that particular committee without her I don't think we could function so thank you Pedro yes she certainly does she does so much and she consults with the correct uh legal authorities whatever necessary and she
keeps us right on the right track and makes it Go just beautifully so I appreciate so much what you do thank you Miss Phaedra yeah uh Boyd representative uh touches County School Board Association Peggy okay uh this uh last committee meeting uh which we had on uh oh actually that was December 1st the policy was December 7th I apologize wasn't reading it right uh on some December 1st was an opportunity for the members uh of the School Board Association to discuss uh problems concerns that they had and the main topic was on orientation of new board members and uh the passport elections in the spring and how smoothly they went and how well uh everything went in our district Miss Pedro again oversees that so it went just like clockwork and then orientation and uh
Miss Vegas has had our orientation and and she said she found it very helpful and we were all open to any suggestions some of the the boards were uh you know we're looking to other boards for suggestions then the May uh the discussion of a concern that we all had was that um for courses that are given in our high schools on get credited Duchess Community College they have said that they want to charge tuition for the credits and this was a matter of great concern to the school boards and so the association is pursuing uh discussions with the county and also with the state about how this can be avoided and so that the students will not have to pay tuition for this we realize that it was half tuition so it would be
cheaper than what they would have to pay when they actually get on campus at Duchess but considering that the courses are being given in our buildings by our professional staff and we're really incurring all the cost we didn't really feel that was fair so we hope they will uh readjust this okay thank you Peggy thank you with all the chairperson next one because hey absolutely a question on that was there any discussion um just with Regal obviously it makes sense we're covering all the costs and then for them to ask but did they mention anything possibly for the student then just to get credit just to pay a flat fee or anything to that degree because obviously they're looking for for a revenue stream yeah and then the question then would be if that's the
case is that something we would have to look at as a district and work that in as a budget item or would we have to actually go to the parents and say look if you want to have your kid take this class we're going to go through everything here but for your child to actually get the three credits or six credits or whatever it is you're gonna have to pay a flat fee to to Duchess have you guys had anything there have been some discussions and uh at this point there continues to be discussions um there's a lot that has not been decided there's been a lot of discussion uh and I'm hopeful that I'll have something to report back to the board by the middle of January as to what it will look like
for those students who would like to take you know Duchess courses here within our school district what that may Encompass what that might cost what the possibilities might be again there's been a lot of discussion nothing final at this point once I have something final I'll bring that back to the board thank you I want to say only because we that's something that we kind of we push and we we really you know we want to tell against you know take the class get the credit it's an advantage for you but then I don't want that to be becomes a financial burden and then like you know what we're not going to take the class I'm not taking the class so as you say it it's just a little bit of a slippery slope right
now so we have to figure it out Jack thank you president umia I know that this is something that the Dutch County School Board Association is working on I know some of the professional associations that you're affiliated with are also working on uh on that Dr Bond um we've been just talking about Duchess classes um what we're really talking about is a community college class that we happen to have offered through Duchess um but just to say we're really talking about Community College classes um there may be more than one route to achieve that despite the fact that Duchess is the home team so to speak there are a number of unanswered questions at this point so so as of right now is it a business as usual and if they were to change when
would that go into effect if they're going to change and we're probably going to effect for next September okay okay um which is why time is of the essence here and again we we continue to wait for some more definitive information I will say that I am encouraged by the dialogue that the Dutchess County superintendents uh have had with Dr Jordan and members of Dutchess Community College as well as some of their trustees uh again there's been there's been a number of things that have been discussed where it's going to land I'm not sure uh but I am hopeful that by the middle of January we have some clear understanding as to where we are and then obviously based upon that decision um we'll have to potentially look at options uh if necessary thank you
to address uh trustee Odom's question originally the the plan at Duchess was for this to go into effect next month but I believe it was the Superintendent's Association that was able to really Lobby to at least get a delay in that that is correct and to answer trustee Morgan's question I know that we have students in our district who are receiving college credit through other not necessarily community colleges but we have credits through Syracuse credits through RIT I know some of the local districts have been receiving credits through Marist and so there are other options that are out there that is also correct very astute she always owes us too with that in mind uh consent agenda resolution does anybody want to remove anything from the percent agenda Marie I like to pull 6.03 item
