Would you like to recognize anyone in attendance this evening? >> Yes, I would love to. >> All right. I am excited to be able to recognize three of our teachers presented for tenure. So, if we could start with Miss Megan Gil. Come on up. Megan. It's my pleasure to recognize Megan as she's recommended for tenure in the area of special education. As a self-contained special education teacher at the elementary school, Megan's committed to meeting the unique needs of every student. She incorporates students interests in instruction and works collaboratively with families, service providers, colleagues, and student supports. Come closer. Beyond the classroom, Megan is an active member
003of our school community. She serves on several committees and volunteers at almost all of our school events. She's she helped establish a student coffee card in partnership with the high school day daily living program and that actually provided students with meaningful opportunities to develop communication and life skills. She is known for her warm, positive personality and her willingness to support both students and colleagues. She's eager to learn, seeking feedback and strengthen her instructional practices. If there's a professional development available, Miss Gill is signing up for it. Her dedication and commitment to growth has made her such a valuable member of our community. We're proud to recommend her for tenure and congratulate her on this well-deserved accomplishment. All right. Next, I would like to introduce Mrs. Gracie Rosen, formerly Miss Gracie Maldo. Come on. Gracie brings
004energy, creativity, innovation, and lots of music and laughter. into her third grade classroom each day. It's with great pride that we recognize her tonight as she is recommended for tenure in elementary education. Through engaging hands-on instruction, innovative strategies, Gracie creates a classroom environment where students feel supported, challenged, and still excited to learn. She's a collaborative colleague who works closely with her families, the special education staff, and related service providers to support student success. She always has a positive attitude, prides herself in building those strong relationships, and is committed to growth that makes her such an important part of our community. Beyond the classroom, she's contributed to several building initiatives, and she's actually the founder of our musical theater club, providing students with meaningful opportunities to explore the performing arts. Her work with this club earned
005her the New York State Retired Educators School Grant Award, and has helped expand our our programming for our students. Her passion for teaching, dedication to her students, and contributions to our school make her highly deserving of this recognition. We're proud of her and congratulations. And lastly, I'd like to recognize Diane Halden. When you walk into Dian's prek classroom, you immediately see students who are engaged, supported, and excited. It's my pleasure to recognize her tonight in the tenure area of elementary education. As a pre-K teacher at Hob Elementary, she creates meaningful student- centered learning experience that inspire curiosity and the love of learning in our youngest students through hands-on project-based opportunities like hatching chickens in her year in her class every year. Miss Walter brings learning to life and encourages students to explore the world around
006them. She also strengthens the connections between school and community by inviting community members into her classroom to share their professions and expertise, helping students make real world connections to their learning. She's a collaborative colleague, serves as a UPK rep on our building leadership team, and plays a key role in organizing our annual graduation for UPK and our screening process. Her dedication to our students, families, and colleagues, along with her willingness to always grow has made her a valuable member of our community. Congratulations on your tenure. >> We bring all three of you guys up for a group photo. Yeah, this glad you got a sense of humor. >> Thanks. Congratulations. >> Thank you so much. Um I was going to do it at my report. Oh, okay. >> But I I do want to mention
007Dennis Cogley who's been um recommended now to move up to transportation supervisor. Um I think we told you when we enter, you know, we thought he had all those qualifications, right? But we hired him as the head bus driver. That's what we posted for. Um he's done a great job. He's actually worked very well with the rest of our team. um we feel that he um with support is ready to to move up. Um we didn't have better candidates than him. Um and he is working on some other qualifications and we did post for a head bus driver and we're in the process of making a decision. We're checking references and things and Britney and I will have something to get by the end of the week. Okay. So I I just want to make
008sure recognized him. I think I'll do my other report. >> Okay. I just want to say congratulations to the tenure. Welcome to all of you. Great addition to our permanent staff. Um and also unfortunately we're losing a couple people that we're very sad to see go. Um we have people coming back though. We have some new people coming back and we have um some health um list people that have been um called back and wanted to come back. So um we're really excited other than a speech teacher and I'm sorry Emma. I think we're going to be fully staffed. We're really excited about that. So, we've done really well. These guys have been really busy to say the least. I think that's all I have for that. >> That should be it for special matters
009recognition. Uh, no correspondence, no privilege of the floor. >> No. >> Okay. Then we have administrators and supervisors reports. >> Back again. Hi. All right. It had been a jam-packed month as our school year comes to a close. We had a fantastic field day regardless of the rain and the power outage. Students walked in, the power was on, and we were just making it work. The buildings and grounds team was just absolutely phenomenal. It was like, "We need a generator. You got it. Power lights working. We got it." Went over to our performer that we had scheduled in this building and he said, "I'm going to make it work without power." I was like, "Yes, you are." And as soon as we walked in, the lights came on. It was ready. The kids had such
010an amazing time. He ended his presentation by literally getting in a balloon. It was the It was such a great way to start our day. And then we ended our day with our in honor of ceremony where we get to celebrate all the faculty and staff, um our bus drivers, our cafeteria workers, our buildings and grounds team, our office staff to say thank you for everything they do for us. So, it was a wonderful event. Um, even though it rained, we still made it work. Um, great levels have been enjoying many field trips and picnics this month. In addition to our annual traditions, we were able to keep our um, flag day ceremony going and welcoming our veterans in for that. Thank you PTO for their help. As well as hosting our senior grad walk.
011It's always so sweet because the seniors walk once by themselves and then the second loop they pick up the prek students in their caps and then our fourth graders get their final walk around the elementary school and it's just such a fulfilling experience. So I'm so glad to keep doing that. And this year I grilled over 250 hot dogs. I am I'm just a grill master out there and the kids are so sweet thanks to Jess Shields and her team. Every um students lunch was actually give given to them on a frisbee which was so sweet and the students are like this is the best day of my life and they're signing their frisbes and then going out to recess and throwing them over the fence and Mr. Jacobs is saving the day but we
012made that work. Uh UPK kindergarten students um are already and mostly registered for next year. We had our screening process. We did that a little bit different this year. We're really pleased with the way that that worked. And uh just so you know, we still have four spots available for UPK. So we're not full yet. We're hoping to fill those up this summer. Those students will then just be screened in August. And then lastly, our moving up events are happening. Remember, we um have our moving up events as our bookend years, our UPK and our fourth grade, because we're only together for six years and can't celebrate every single year. So our UPK moving up ceremony is tomorrow. And then the next day is our fourth grade moving up ceremony. Um, if you can make
013it, we'd love to have you. It's 10:30 tomorrow and 10:00 on Wednesday. And then the last thing I want to do is just update you a little bit on the nuts and bolts for our core data. I told you that I would send you the link in your update. I will, but I think that this is exciting news just to share. We talked a little bit about how we use one piece of data to share this, but this isn't this is just a snapshot, right? multiple pieces of data actually come together to show us who our students are as readers, writers, and mathematicians. But in terms of the I Ready, which is a diagnostic assessment, and it is nationally normed for us, it's really looking at is our tier one instruction meeting the goal is
01480% of our students, right? We know that there'll always be a group that needs a little bit of extra help and a smaller group that needs a lot of that extra help, right? So I I just want to just share with you the beginning of the year in the fall overall, right? This is like 246 kids were assessed. We had 29% proficient in reading. We're ending the year at 71%. In the beginning of the year, we had 56% of our students needing a little bit of help. The goal is for that to get smaller. For reading, we've moved from 56 to 22%. And then at the beginning of the year, we had 15% of our students needing tier three, a lot of it a little bit of help and they have moved to 7%. So
015what an accomplishment. We're able to look at that data and see some really marked growth exactly where we're looking to see it in kindergarten from 17% proficient to 95% proficient in reading. Right? We contribute that to our shift with the science and reading with direct explicit instruction in in phonics instruction. And then other march growth worth noting in first grade starting the year at 99 9% proficient and ending with 68% proficiency. And again this is one marker but enough to to celebrate. And then if I can just switch switch gears to math, we started the year with 9% proficient in math and our um overall growth has moved to 55% proficiency. So that's some March growth. Knowing that our tier 2 students who needed a little of that extra help was 70%. We're hoping that
016to go down. We're at 42 and that tier three we went from 20% to 3%. That's huge. That's Mar. That's That's big growth knowing that students that needed a lot to catch up were making that that progress. Um, so I will put this link into your board update if you want to dig into that, but I needed to share that publicly. So impressed by our students, mostly impressed by the work that our teachers are doing, really using the data, making decisions in the moment to serve our kids. Do you have anything for me? Right. Thank you. Good work. All right, good evening all. How are you today? Good. Um, couple things I just wanted to share with you. Uh, first, capital project. Those of you who are at the facilities meeting heard a few things
017already. Um, contractors are wrapping up on the valve replacements um in our classrooms. They're continuing to work on the roof. Uh, boiler room is just about done. Um, so lots of stuff is happening at the middle school at that level. And, um, again, a lot of really good flexibility with students and staff. um with the team that we have that's working there with Turner uh with our own uh building the grounds, they've really done a great job and they're super responsive if something's happening. We had that power outage and and I was nervous that maybe it was something that had happened uh as a result of the construction that was happening, but it was not. Um and then it cleared up pretty quickly, but they're super responsive. So, we were very grateful for that. Um,
018we did start to pack some things up in the main office already. Um, so that we can get started right as soon as students are are gone. Um, we can, uh, shift our home base to the library and, uh, they'll be able to work in the main office and get things done for the capital project. Um, tomorrow we're going to be celebrating our eighth graders. Um, so we're super excited. We've been practicing all of that. Um, they're really struggling with walking with pace. um and also hold things so they can get their picture taken. But we've worked already a couple of uh of rehearsals. We're doing another one tomorrow. So that they'll be good to go back tomorrow at 6:30. We'd love to see you there. Um 6:30 in middle school auditorium. Um looking forward
019to some special awards. Um and then recognizing all of our students that are moving up into the high school. Um want to highlight an exceptional accomplishment. one of our young uh men, he's a sixth grade student, won first place in an essay contest um on the topic of celebrating America's 250th anniversary um in a veterans who fight for our freedom sponsored by the Erie County American Legion. That student won $500 and read that at our um flag day celebration. So, that was really nice um and super exciting and the kid was really pumped about it. Um finishing the hiring process in a few areas. Um today we have recommended a candidate for social studies, Brendan Dolan. Um tomorrow we have demonstration lessons uh by several physical education um and health teacher candidates. Um really happy
020with the candidate pools that we had. It was nice to see a wide range of of people who had a lot of different abilities that came out for these positions. Um any year brought so many different field trips. We had to unfortunately cancel today's um park and pool because of the weather. Um but tomorrow is uh Beaver Island for our fifth and sixth graders. Um they've had plenty of opportunity to get out and celebrate and get ready for the end of the year. We've had exams continually throughout um and celebrations like tomorrow's that's going to be coming up. Um Thursday's our field day and final day for our uh school for our students. So looking forward to a fun send off. >> Any questions for me? >> Is it possible that that young man could
021read his essay at the graduation? >> We could. Um, yeah. >> I don't know if that's like cuz he's in sixth grade. >> He's in sixth grade, I have to say. >> Yeah, that's a huge accomplishment. >> Yeah, it was great. He he was he did it for the flag day in front of all his peers. So, >> okay. So, >> also very nice. He he annunciated very well. >> Um, do we have access to that >> to the the actual video? We can take we have pictures. I don't know. >> Can we agree to essay? >> Yeah, sure. I can send it out. Thank you. Absolutely. Who was the student? Uh, the student's name was Kevin Brown. Okay. Anything else? All right. Thank you. Thanks. >> Good afternoon. Good evening everybody. I don't have
022all the data that Kelly has. >> Uh, Kelly also grilled more hot dogs than you apparently. >> Yeah, he was treating frisbee. Yeah, save your kids. Um, anyways, we did have a wonderful academic night. Um, we handed out over 32 scholarships totaling over $20,000 for our students um in addition to other collegiate awards that will go to students if they attend those colleges. So, that was a wonderful night. On uh Monday, we also held our uh senior class picnic which followed the senior class walkthrough of the elementary and middle school um and moving up ceremony. So, they had a wonderful time at the they're at Sardinia Park, I believe. Um, and so they just had redone that park, so the kids had a great time uh there. And then we're gearing up for graduation. That's
023this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. You have to be there. So, the rest of you can also attend. You'll also have to be there. Um, so that is at 10:00 a.m. Um, I encourage all of you to attend as well, >> attend the auditorium. Um, and I'd like to welcome Melissa Wnooki, who is our long-term sub for Melanie Halton. She is now our permanent replacement for Melanie Halton. And congratulations to Melanie for retiring uh or in her retirement. And Lisa comes to us with relatively little experience as many of the math candidates had, but she does did get great feedback from our students and from our staff who had worked with her previously uh in the beginning of the year. Uh, and so thank you to Melanie. Uh thank you to Grace. This is her last
024meeting uh as a student board member. Uh we will have a new student board member being um inducted. I don't know how >> sworn in sworn in on uh in the July meeting um and she'll start then. Um so we're excited for that. And that's all anything for me. >> Thank you. Happy birthday. >> Thank you. Hello everyone. Uh for me, let's see. Um as of today, we finished our CS504 meetings for the year. It's pretty exciting. Um I know I said this before, but uh just a huge shout out and thank you to our school sites um Lori Reky and Kate Ceman for taking on um the shared responsibility of chair persons this year um to help me with that with all the meetings we had this year. Um congratulations to three students um
025who graduated graduated with the skills and achievement credential this month from Bose or centered based placement and that was Olivia Surfist, Brandon Downey and Anthony Lutio. And on the curriculum side, we have 40 teachers signed up to participate in summer curriculum work this summer. Um so it just really is a testament to their dedication to hone their their skills and really work together to make the um curriculum even better for next year. anything. So, I just want to talk a little bit about Jess Shields on the work she did this year for the New York 30% initiative. So, that's something where if you purchase 30% of your your produce and your products from New York State retailers, I guess for lack of a better word, you can actually increase your reimburseable rate for the meals.
026So, it requires a lot of data, a lot of tracking up front, a year ahead of time. So, we spend a lot of time on spreadsheets, which has been super fun for me, not so much for guests. Um, but she met with a lady from Cornell that um kind of oversees it and we're on the right track for that. So, what that means is next year, assuming everything goes through, which it should, we will receive an additional 19 cents per reimburseable lunch meal that we sell. Um, and based on this year's figures, it'll be an additional 17K in revenue. So that's a lot of hard work that Jess has put in this year. Um and it's gotten better products for the kids. So we've done the purchasing um wellora maple hot dogs from Minsky local
027farmers with raised beef, yellow watermelon, purple cauliflower, Asian pear. So kids are being exposed to more local and more variety of things there. So that's been great. We've heard the feedback for that. We've also received update on our health insurance reserve. So it has passed both parts of the legislature which is fantastic. So now we're just waiting for it to get sent to Hogal. Once it reaches her desk, she has 10 business days, not including Sunday. Um, and then hopefully that will be signed off and then once we have all of those pieces in place, then it will come back to the board to establish the reserve and we can talk about funding it. So that's a really big step and great for us as a self-insured commissioner. >> Very good. Thank you. All right.
028I have a couple of recognitions. First, I think you thought you snuck out of it, but I'm very sorry, Bonnie. You did not. Um, I just want to say that it has been a distinct pleasure. Bonnie has always been our steady, calming force, right? All of these years, even for me, when I was in the hospital once, she came to see me and she held my hand and I felt much better already. So, really, we're going to miss you and thank you because you were extremely dedicated and we're very grateful for that. So, we want to give you this clock cuz we felt bad that you were not there. I did have something prepared for my friend here who decided to skip out on me. Thank you. >> Um I also have to recognize my
029friend cuz we become friends now, Gracie and I. Um it has been a distinct pleasure getting to know you. Um and I've really enjoyed it and you are a first. So, you kind of were getting engaged. I realized that maybe we didn't always do a good job about it. I tried voting our first vote. >> I wish you the very best. Um, I know you're down the street. We're going to keep in touch. All good things to you. Thank you very much. You set a bar, so Mr. Jacobs, make sure the next person can at least rise to this and you, right? But thank you very much. These guys have been going crazy busy. We have exams. We have the kids. You know, um the school schedule, I swear, was designed perfectly cuz every time
030before a break, we can almost guarantee things start to ramp up. And they've hired some great people. They've been kneedeep in applications. I'm very proud of the work that's happened this year. And it's been rewarding. It's been calming. I think we've accomplished a great deal. And I thank you all because I can't do it. And I thank all of you for your support. It's been a great team. So, thank you. And that's all I have for you, Chuck. Can you do anything for us? >> Bye. >> So, it's Britney's birthday. So, when the administrators leave, I'm going to let Britney leave as well, if you're okay with that. >> Okay. Great. Glad to meet you right now. >> Rodney. No. >> Have a good night, >> guys. >> Happy birthday. Happy birthday. >> All of
031them. >> I know. What did I say? >> Discussion items like once you know how like we voted on >> Got it. Okay. >> Discussion items. >> I just don't know which one it is. >> It'll probably >> Oh, it's the second one. Got it. >> Transportation bottom. >> Yep. So, it's See, we're starting with Got it. All right. Resolve that superintendent of schools be authorized to appoint temporary summer employees as needed contingent upon board approval for the Holland Central School District for the 2026 2027 school year. And I have a motion. >> So move. >> A second. >> Second. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I. >> Any opposed? Period. 6. We still need a one and a two with that. >> So, second call. Thank you. Congratulations. consider law school. >> Resolve upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools that the board of education approved the Holland Central School District code of conduct for the 2627 school year as attached. 034want to add it's not funding anything before anything gets moved you will be told okay perhaps Just want to mention that we had a donation of an electric wheelchair from Jane. So, thank you very much. >> Use for robotics. >> Great. >> Alison, very generous donation. >> And we have committee reports. uh NISPO ECSB RSA. >> I attended the annual dinner and that was nice and received another shining star award and was um appointed treasurer of the association. >> Congratulations. >> Treasurer of UCSD. >> Yes. She didn't want to be prisoner terms. So, yeah. So, I think dangerous, >> but yeah, it's fun. It's a good dinner. Um, on the Lisbon front, um, I was talking with a couple people that were going to the leadership and I was talking to Dave and I I
035might I might think about going to that. He said if that's the case. Let him know. And he said there's still the Lord stable money. We don't have the money. >> When is it? >> It's the end of July. But I'm going to see. My schedule's so crazy right now. I can't really commit solid to it, but I'll let it out for the July meeting. And I put together some information that I gathered while I was at the conference bill for RSA. So, I think I'm going to send it to sue to maybe make it pretty. >> Oh, I'm the wrong person for that, Paula. >> And then that way we'll get it out. It just kind of weighs the pros and the cons of continuing to pay for. Was there anything else you wanted
036to share about the meeting or any >> I think it's pretty in the write up that I asked about um don't think there's any policy updates no negotiations are open nothing new wall of honor uh nothing new transportation outside of the facilities capital project uh nothing new tech plan um facilities as has mentioned today in some of our updates. We had a a meeting just prior to this. Um mostly some uh some of the contingency budget items were either approved or or taken away. We're not going to be able to do the stage rigging this year. >> Yeah, that one just not doesn't fit >> didn't fit in any um and >> stage what stage rigging. >> Oh god. It's like $100,000. >> Um, and all of our our capital improvement plan is progressing nicely.
037Um, things are either being completed or are well underway. There's a few things that had to wait for students to get finished with the school year. So, those start next week. That's for that update. >> The playground opening will be September 2nd because it's not ready. the grass has to, you know, it's just going to be messy. So, and they have to kind of turn it over to us. So, there's a whole process insurance wise and stuff, too. So, that finance and audit committee, I don't believe there's any updates there. We have some information on upcoming events up there. We have upcoming meeting both facilities and our reorg meeting uh for the board of education on July 13th. here in the same place. There's no second group on the floor. >> Sure. >> I'll meet
038with you in executive session and give you five minutes of what's going on. I mostly showed up to say goodbye to Bonnie and Kelly. Um round table start on this side. There you go. >> Uh I'm going to read Bonnie what we read for the words tonight. Okay. So, we're just we're gonna do that because she didn't hear. So, on at the awards night, I read a little bit about you and Kelly. So, since you weren't there, I'll read you. >> We're just going to continue this. >> Do you need a cleaner? >> I hope not. >> It's really short. Uh, we want to express our deepest gratitude for your 10 years on the Holland Board of Education where steadfast commitment has left a mark on the district. A decade of volunteering your time, attending
039meetings, reviewing budgets, policies, facilities, and financing finances, making tough decisions, and listening to concerns. Your dedication has guided our district through opening a building, starting capital projects to help update our campus, and keeping our students first in every decision. You've left an impact on our teachers, staff, community, and students. We thank you for your tireless efforts and for being an advocate for public education. And we will miss you and I'm grateful for your sentence. Is that okay? And now I just want to say it was a pleasure to serve with you folks and it was a very um a big learning experience at the beginning and thank you Jerry for all your guidance and uh uh reassurance and um I thoroughly have enjoyed doing this. I will miss it. We will miss you. But I
040it was quite a learning experience and it was a pleasure serving with all of you. This was really a neat experience. So thank you. >> Thank you. >> Enjoy your grandkids. >> Yes. Been doing that. Yeah. >> I don't have anything for discussion for us. >> No.
