I would like to call the Lancaster Central School District Board of Education meeting to order. In the unlikely event of an emergency, if we have to evacuate the room, please note the locations of the exits. At this time, I ask that you please silence your cell phones and rise to the pledge of allegiance. Please remain standing for a moment of silence of the nation. Thank you. All right. Welcome in everybody. It's been obviously there's been quite a few presentations tonight. So, thank you to all who have uh remained in the audience for all of them. Um on to 4.0 presentations. We do not have any presentations tonight. Uh we've already done quite a few of them. Uh 5.0 correspondence. 5.1 we have uh an email received from Brian Lawrence on April 23rd, 2026. 5.2, Two,

we have a letter received by the Boys and Girls Club of the Q Lancaster on May 6, 2026. On to 6.0, we have the approval of minutes 6.1. Can I have a motion to approve the regular session from April 21st, 2026? >> Any comments or questions? All those in favor? Anyone against? Motion carries. 7.0 items from staff organizations. Is there anybody from the Lancaster Administrative and Supervisory Association? I would just like to first start by thanking our students. Um, we also wanted to support. >> Thank you, Mr. K. Anybody from the Lancaster Central Teachers Association? >> Um, good evening. We actually just have a couple teachers from the high school, Alli Densky from the art department and Angela Brutder from the healthcare academy. We just want to update you real quick, brief. We might win

that tonight. Uh, brief presentation um on a few things going on at the high school. All right. Hi everyone. Um I'm Allison Demsky. Um I am here representing the art department at the high school tonight. Um I want to share some of the incredible things that our department has been working on this year. Uh first, more than 20 artworks from students in grades K through 12 have been accepted into the Bosey's art showcase. Uh works will be shown throughout Erie One Bosey's building with a public opening in June. Uh you can see the flag that on the left there. Um next, Sydney Carly recently held a portfolio adjudication in the Blackbox Theater for 24 of our junior AVPA students. 12 Western Europe professionals from the arts, including members of the AKG, educators, gallery operators, and

artists joined us to sit with students individually to offer feedback on their artwork based on a rubric provided to them. Uh this experience impressed upon our students real life skills such as dressing professionally, throwing eye contact, shaking hands, introducing themselves, and speaking about their artwork. The experience also readies students to prepare for college and careers based in the arts through open and honest feedback. We're excited to hold this event annually moving forward. Um lastly, the district has invested a great deal into our department this year, allowing us to purchase a large format printer. Thank you. Uh this has made me a thousand% more efficient in my daily life. Um you have also allowed us to purchase uh wake them drawing pads for our computer lab. You can see some of the incredible work our students

have made uh with these tools in the digital art show currently on display in our gallery. We hope you can stop by before you look before you leave tonight. Um one of our goals as a department has been growing our digital footprint and offering more classes that open doors to future career paths and arts for our students. This year I had the honor to bring back the graphic design class. My most or my goal is to give my students assignments that allow them to have hands-on experience while building college level design skills. These students have taken on real world design projects within our school community such as designing the Lancaster High School newsletter, flyers to the legendary looks, bookmarks for the library media center, and creating posters and brochures for unified sports. With that in

mind, this year we had an exciting addition to our festival of the arts. Our graphic design students have worked very hard on creating Western New York themed posters, which you can see some of them up there. Um, and the photography students have taken photos of our beautiful learning garden here at the high school, which will all be framed and sold in silent auction exclusively at our arts festival on May 29th. Um, and the sales will raise funds for scholarships. We hope you can attend this year to see all the wonderful things our students have done. Um, and maybe you can even get some music for your home office. Thank you. >> All right. Hi, I'm Angela Brutder. I'm the um director of the healthcare academy since we started in 2010. The goal of our academy

has always been to prepare our students for competitive healthcare programs and careers. But not all of our students are going to end up as healthcare professionals. So we work to be sure that we are providing all of our students with real world experience that will benefit them both in and out of healthcare professions. I wanted to highlight two of these experiences tonight. The first is our CPR training. My background is in emergency medicine and I still work as an EMT for Lancaster Ambulance. I've seen firsthand the difference immediate CPR makes in the outcome of my own patients. CPR is the most important skill my students learn while in the academy and it's useful whether or not they end up in healthcare. It can literally mean the difference between life and death. Educating patients is a

key role for healthcare providers. So during February, which is CPR month, in addition to the CPR, AED, and first aid trainings we do in class, we invite our work study students to our classroom and teach them how to recognize an emergency, what to say to the dispatcher when they call 911, and the basics of hands-only CPR. This experience allows my students a chance to work on communication skills that will be essential when they're working in working in the field with different patients. So, we've got some pictures of um my students teaching the work study students um how to perform hands-only CPR. The other activity is a year-long case study um I do with my seniors that we call fetal Friday. For this, we follow a fictional pregnancy week by week every Friday throughout the school

year. A typical pregnancy is 40 weeks and the school year is 40 weeks. So, it works out perfectly. The students not only learn about growth and development, but because they've been with me and the other academy members for three years, they have a safe and comfortable space to ask questions about pregnancy and reproduction. One of the activities we do during this case study is our HDA baby shower. As we celebrate our patient with typical baby shower games and snacks, we also collect shower gifts that we donate to the Western New York foster closet. We again include the work study students in this celebration, giving them the opportunity to go out and shop for the gifts and my students the opportunity to socialize with students with different abilities. Later this month, Catholic Health will be visiting

my classroom after school with their OB simulator mannequin. The students will have a short lesson on labor and delivery and then be able to actually deliver the newborn mannequin. This will be the second time we've paired with Catholic Health for this activity. I think it's a meaningful experience for my students because not only has it been an important medical topic at some point they will all know somebody who is pregnant, a patient, a partner or even themselves but also gives them a chance to connect and give back to the community organizations. And then finally, that's all right. Um, finally, um, as the school year draws to the end, um, we're spending a lot of time celebrating our seniors and looking forward to their future. Outside of my classroom door, we'd have their post high school

destinations displayed with their names and little graduation caps surrounding the logo of their school or program. On May 1st, we celebrated decision day with a little photo shoot in the library media center. And on June 23rd, right here, we'll have our healthcare graduation where the students will be presented with their honors ashes that they'll wear as they cross the stage at Shayes. Um, these few things are just a glimpse into the amazing things that are happening in the healthcare classrooms and in the halls all throughout our district. And I'm really proud to be able to give my students these opportunities and memories every year. Thank you. >> Thank you both so much for the presentations. Um, I I always love seeing the different uh the different programs that we offer. I mean, we've talked about

them at length tonight, but it's really nice to see just like in practical sense uh the new things that are going on in the art department. It's really cool that there's a new graphic design class that's being brought back. Um, as far as the the CPR classes, I think we gave an award last year, either last year or the year before to a student who saved his stepfather um by performing CPR. So, again, it's one of the most important things you can learn. So, thank you for teaching our students that that's really important. Well, thank you for uh for coming and sharing that with us. >> Anybody here from the Lancaster Association of Service Personnel? And the Lancaster Association of Substitute Teachers. >> Okay. On to 8.0 board reports. Does anybody have anything to report?

>> I just have a couple things. Um, the first one, there have been two tree dedication ceremonies planned for this upcoming spring in Memorial Grove at the high school to honor both Mrs. Glassman and Mrs. Kangelo. These ceremonies have been planned for May 18th for Mrs. Glassman and May 20th for Mrs. Kangelo. The families with these women have both been invited to their respective ceremonies to honor them and the legacy they have left behind in the Lancaster Central School District. Um also many events at the high school are being planned um revolving around seniors and graduation. Some of these events events include grad walk where high school students will walk through the elementary schools to visit their past teachers and any children they may know in those schools. um senior recognition night where students will

be awarded for their hard work and dedication to academics, athletics, leaders, leadership skills and many more other topics and other events such as prom and smooth breakfast have also started planning as well. >> Thank you, Michaela. Um I just have a very quick thing to go over. Um I know we've talked a lot tonight, but uh last week was teacher appreciation week. Um a lot of the schools did so many great things for the teachers. Um there were different breakfasts and there were different fun activities. Uh they had me at William Street making ice cream floats on Wednesday morning for four hours. So that was a lot of fun. Um but I just think all the PTO's at the the different schools do such a good job of of recognizing the teachers and um I

hope that the the faculty and the teachers felt appreciated because uh we very much so are. So thank you all very much. Um that's all I does. Anybody have anything else? Okay, I'll turn it over to Dr. Hoopal for superintendent administrative report. You've heard from me enough tonight. What I would say is uh get out amongst our our buildings because uh Mr. Kandell says it's a season of celebration. So, I'll leave that there. And if you need a clean copy, I will say that um you can control what you can control. So, this process and make some communication about it. This process um despite our best efforts, review, revision, check, double check, triple check, multiple people have their eyes on it and it was pristine and the clean copy. Uh we received a late word

last Wednesday that there were some errors. Uh so what we do is you control what you can control. God put together a plan to make sure that we can remedy it, communicate it, and uh make things right by all those parties affected. Um, so that's kind of what we did. I just wanted to make sure that um uh that was out there in addition to uh what we put out there. So that's all I will say. I'll turn it back over to Thank you, Dr. Kofel. 10.0 old business. Does anybody have any old business to discuss? 11.0 new business. 11.1 Personnel items. 11.1. May I please have a motion to appoint the new assistant principal? Any comments or questions? All those in favor? Anyone against? Motion carries. So, I'll have uh Dr. Marioli and Mr.

come up to say a few words about our new William Street assistant business. Good evening. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to speak to you tonight regarding our um new assistant principal at William Street. As you know, we always say hire the best. Um and that's something that we live by because the people who live who work in our schools are critical to our student success. Our search was rigorous and was designed to ensure that we identified in an initial screening interview followed by a more in-depth panel interview. They were asked to complete an analysis and a planning task which they presented to the committee. They also took part in a writing exercise that was intended to assess their ability to think critically and communicate clearly under time constraints. As a final component, the

candidates tooured William Street alongside a group of our students and those students provided the committee with feedback as to how each of the candidates uh with their level of engagement with students and their ability to connect authentically with our school community. April Ozarac rose to the top. As we reviewed each component of the process, we all agreed that her skills and experience made her the clear and best fit when it came to hiring best. A committee consensus such as this is notable and speaks not only to her professional qualifications but also to her the strength of her presence, her clarity of vision and her genuine commitment to both faculty, students and staff. Mr. Hair is going to say a little bit more about her. >> Thank you, Dr. April brings meaningful leadership experience. Having served

as an interim assistant principal throughout the interview process and in our reference checks, it was evident that she has been highly effective in that role. She has demonstrated the capacity to navigate complex situations with poise, provide steady leadership, and support students and staff with both confidence and care. In addition, her experience as an MTSS coordinator has afforded her a strong systems level perspective. She understands how to design and implement structures that ensures all students receive the academic and social emotional supports necessary for success. We found one of April's most compelling strengths to be her deep appreciation for the role relationships play in a thriving school community. She approaches her work with empathy, respect, and an authentic commitment to listening. Whether engaging with students, collaborating with colleagues, or partnering with families, she prioritizes connections as the

foundation as the foundation for meaningful and lasting impact. Her background in restorative practices further reinforces this approach. She is skilled in fostering accountability while preserving dignity, helping students and adults learn from challenges and grow within a supportive environment. She spoke of this at depth at her interview and it aligns closely with it with our continued focus for cultivating a positive inclusive school culture. From an instructional standpoint, April is exceptionally strong. She possesses a deep understanding of curriculum and instruction and is well equipped to support teachers in delivering high quality engaging learning experiences. She also brings a valuable vertical perspective during her career. She has worked with students in elementary schools through high school. That gives her a clear understanding of the foundation that elementary schools provide to be successful in their future classes. Her most

re recent work in a high school will help us to continue our work and underpin the portrait of a graduate requirements for New York State. In some April is reflective. She's capable and she's a student centered leader who's wellprepared to make an immediate and lasting contribution to William Street. We have every confidence that Mrs. Ozar's act we have every confidence in Mrs. Zacharox and we're excited about her leadership, her insight, and the experience that she will bring to William Street. And we're also very certain that she will be the next legendary Lancaster administrator. >> No problem. you can uh would love to have you say a couple words if you're prepared. Then I want I don't want to put you on the spot. >> Good evening everyone. I am truly honored and grateful to stand
