Thank you. All in favor? I. All right. Please stand for the pledge. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> All right. Hello everyone. Guess we can go right into board announcements. Anyone want to share anything from >> the last couple weeks? >> Um I will share that I was at the senior awards ceremony a couple weeks ago and it was just really nice to be there. There were a lot of seniors given multiple awards and it was just a really nice celebratory night. Um I was also at the fourth grade publishing party. I really was blown away by some of the writing as an English teacher myself. The fourth
grade writing pieces that they were uh presenting really were really were impressive. So kudos to the teachers at Cottage Lane and it just really was a nice day. >> Thanks. Uh I just wanted to share I was able to go to the fifth grade field day and it was it was a whopper. It was a it was it was very hot outside. Everyone was still bouncing up and down, cheering for those kids and it it was another success. Mr. Jacobs puts on an amazing show. I want to thank him and I think next year, you know, maybe he's going to need a little bit more support cuz I don't know how he gets from one side to the other in such quick fashion, but it was it was a great great time. >> I also
attended the fifth grade field day. Which was a doozy. Uh and really sad to tell my child that it's her last field day like where we all come and make it big, you know? So, he they do uh Mrs. O'Rourke and Mr. um Jacobs do do a great job. I really appreciate it. Um and I also attended the uh concert, which was fun. Little dark, but fun. >> [laughter] >> The lights didn't work, I don't know. But, uh it was a good time. >> Awesome. All right. Um >> [clears throat] >> superintendent's announcements? >> All right, good evening, everyone. So, welcome to our last Board of Education meeting of the year. So, um I also had the opportunity to go to concerts. They were amazing this year, and we are renovating the auditorium at the
high school, so I expect that and the the concerts won't be so dark uh once that project is completed. So, before I begin with superintendent highlights, it is also uh one of our board members' last board meetings, Diana Corabell, and I know at our last board meeting I thank you for your service and had the opportunity when we had volunteer recognition night uh to thank you for your service and present you with a plaque. It is also Jaywon Chae's last board meeting, our student board member who's here tonight. And I think Jaywon wanted to share a few words. >> Yeah, so I had like a very short speech prepared, but So, good evening, members of the Board of Education, administrators, teachers, and community members. This year, I had the honor of serving as the school's
first ex officio student board member. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all giving thank me the opportunity to serve in this role. From the very beginning, the board has been very supportive and welcoming. Being able to attend these meetings, share the student perspective, and be involved in work such as the district survey has been an incredibly meaningful experience for me. As someone who's been part of the South Orange Town Central School District since kindergarten, this district has had a huge impact on who I am today. Serving in this role has only made me appreciate that even more. It allowed me to see the work that happened behind the scenes in a district and the thought that goes into making our district better for all students. So, thank you to the
Board of Education and everyone in the South Orangetown community for the impact that you've had on me and so many other students. I'm truly grateful to have grown up in this district and I'm confident that the South Orangetown Central School District will continue to be a place filled with opportunities that support, inspire, and helps many other students grow for years to come. Thank you. >> [applause] >> Thank you, Jaywon. It's been wonderful having you. It's been an amazing experience for us having student board members for the first time this year and you've had a tremendous impact on not only me, but the board and and everything we've been able to do for our kids. So, thank you and good luck in college. >> Thank you, Dr. >> Not leaving yet, but sooner or later. We're
going to play tennis before you leave. >> Play tennis and then give one more speech at graduation and then >> [laughter] >> finally done. >> So, uh moving on to Superintendent highlights, we had gym city back at William O'Sheaf for for the first time in many years and it was amazing to watch our students on scooters going through gym city while also listening to the Knicks theme song, "Go New York, go New York, go." It was very cool. So, gym city is back and I want to say thank you to Dr. Arietta and uh Ms. Beglin, Mr. Galvin, Ms. Iyer, Coach Cunahan, Coach Deller, Coach Steingasser, along with all the teachers and staff at William O'Sheaf for for making this happen. What they created is unbelievable. All of our seniors uh are going to have
an opportunity to go through before they graduate. I think that's happening on Monday, right, Dr. Arietta? So, it's very cool. It was a lot of work. Um if you haven't been, I highly recommend you get over to William O'Shay for and check it out. It'll be up for the next whatever. How Probably the end of the year. Uh as [clears throat] uh Miss Hallahan said, uh the senior awards ceremony was held for the first time in the evening. It was a packed house and a wonderful ceremony. It was nice that we had former students coming back year after year to give back, some of whom graduated more than 50 years ago. >> [clears throat] >> We had local community organizations, universities, and employee groups, school departments present more than 115 scholarships and awards recognizing academic,
artistic, and athletic achievement, leadership, and character to the Tappan Zee High School seniors at the senior awards ceremony. Congratulations to all of our 2026 senior awards recipients, and thank you to all the generous scholarship and award sponsors. I also want to give a shout-out and say thank you to our entire counseling department, Miss Luciano, Dr. Levine, and Mr. Carbonetti for planning such a wonderful event and deciding to have it at night so that more families could attend. And thank you to Tracy Hallahan, our board trustee, also for attending. It was a memorable night. On June 3rd, the Tappan Zee High School Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society hosted their annual induction ceremony and welcomed seven new members and honored 54 returning members. Class of 2024 alumna and former chapter vice president, Molly Kulot, who also happens
to be my daughter, was invited uh and visited from college to serve as the ceremony's guest speaker. Molly spoke about artificial intelligence and the important role math plays in understanding how it works and the different approaches companies and organizations are taking to adopt this technology. She shared beyond just understanding AI, there's something else math does for you that nothing else really replicates. It forces you to think. So, we uh appreciate her coming and speaking to the kids, and it was a wonderful event. Last Tuesday, we had our annual Maker Fair with 120 projects on display and it was our 11th annual SOCSD School Maker Fair. The Tappan Zee High School gym was transformed into an impressive showcase featuring some of what students across K through 12 have learned this year in the areas of science,
technology, engineering, art, and math. We had many clubs and teams represented. It was a great opportunity for students to showcase their creativity and critical thinking skills through an interdisciplinary project. We had lots of clubs and teams presenting to our younger students. I just want to give a shout-out and say thank you to Mark Eckert, who is the brainchild of the SOCSD Maker Fair, Dr. Arietta, all the administrators, teachers, and staff, as well as our technology teachers and staff who work so hard to put this event together. I also want to thank our custodial and maintenance staff for setting up and breaking down the event while also ensuring that we had enough power and extension cords all around the gym so that kids could present their projects. Moving on to athletics, we had our girls track
state championships. Congratulations to our girls track and field athletes for huge performances at the New York State Championships this past weekend in Rochester, New York. Kayleigh Betances, Gia Cassidy, Mia DeLulio, Eva Fleming, Ryan Donovan, Bridget Dunn, Alyssa Connolly, and Tanisha Bednars all qualified for the New York State Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Bridget Dunn placed third in New York class B in the 2000 steeplechase. The 4 by 800 relay of Bridget, Mia, Ryan, and Gia won fifth in New York. Tanisha placed ninth in New York in the triple jump. And the 4 by 400 relay of Gia, Mia, Kayleigh, and Eva came in 12th place in the entire state of New York. So, congratulations to our student athletes. Head coach Pat Driscoll and assistant coaches Trisha Inucci, Bob Favor, Raul Madera, and Anne Marie Carella
on another incredible track season. Cottage Lane hosted their annual Earth Day event in Tallman Mountain State Park. That happened on May 29th. This outdoor education day is coordinated by Cottage Lane technology teacher Jacob Tannenbaum, who created the event, and Arcola 8 instructional science coach Samantha Levine, which allows students to connect classroom learning with natural world around them. It features hands-on stations that teach students about our local environment, animals, renewable energy, and ways to protect the Earth. Thank you to all the CLE staff, current and retired, and our community based partners that helped make the 2026 Earth Day a success. At Cottage Lane, it's been a busy week. We had the wax museum, the annual wax museum for third grade, and that's a grade-wide activity that builds research, writing, and presentation skills as our third graders
study historical and cultural figure of their choice and then prepare a brief biography to be delivered in character during the museum tours. This event is part of ELA studies and specifically the biography and research unit. And on Friday, our families had the opportunity to tour the wax museum to learn about the life and accomplishments of a wide variety of influential scientists, authors, athletes, presidents, artists, and inventors. It's an amazing event that we we have every year. So, thank you to everyone for putting that together. And as I mentioned, I did have the opportunity to go to concerts. Uh we have more students playing instruments and singing than ever before. Their musical talents, dedication, and enthusiasm were on full display. Thank you to our talented music teachers for making these memorable events possible, and congratulations to
all of our student performers on spectacular concerts. And I also finally had the opportunity to attend a bunch of field days. It was a a of fun. Um and we were able to get all the third graders free recess by winning the staff relay race. So, that was that was also fun. And that concludes my superintendent's report. >> Excellent. Okay. Um, public >> There was no public no. >> Okay, so no one signed up for public commentary. We can move on to board discussion if there is any on the agenda tonight. No? Okay, any uh any committee reports? No? I don't think so. Okay, we did have policies for review. Um, we just have the first reading of policy and regulation 0115 student harassment, bullying bullying prevention and intervention. So, that's back up for its
first read today. Um and then we can do the second read at the next meeting. I know that we uh over the summer we won't we won't be doing any other policies. That's um that's what we have put in place, but >> So, we would be adopting that probably early in the uh September. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> All right, excellent. Um let's see here. We have motion to make some changes to the agenda. We do have a few addendums. So, thanks John Carlo for being on top of that and I'm glad we're able to to move past that. That was Sure, absolutely. >> Yep. >> [snorts] >> Yep. >> Thank you. >> All right, so we have those addendums. Do I have a motion? >> Motion. >> Thank you, Diana. I support the incoming Board of Education, but urge them to make consecutive conservative and social and sound financial decisions. Sorry, sound financial decisions avoiding unnecessary spending on vanity projects. Remember that every student counts and thank you for trusting me to serve. >> Hm? >> No, no, you have to say that. >> Oh, no, you you know one thing before we go? Nothing good? >> What? >> Oh, yeah. >> [laughter] >> Before we adjourn, I was just going to share something. >> Oh. >> That's

You've been our director of security, safety and compliance and have done a phenomenal job in all of our schools and I just I'm really going to miss you but I know you're not going far so we'll still be able to work together hopefully in the future and I just want to wish you luck in your retirement. >>
