stand to be introduced for our board and our community it is a great pleasure to introduce to you our new athletic director Brett Baker Greg was appointed this evening during the Personnel section he has previously served as a highly effective uh sorry a highly effective athletic director in the Kenton school district where he plans to retire after 31 years there and join us on September 7th as our new athletic director Brett lives on Grand Island he's been years he and his wife Jennifer Jennifer taught here in physical education for many years and is now the head women's basketball coach at Damon University Brett's two children Colby and Kelly were graduated from our school district for wonderful students and exceptionally excellent athletes kadley in fact still holds the Rutger the Grand Island of varsity basketball record
for most points scored during her varsity tenure as an athlete with us I believe it's 1000 700 points that she scored and her name was already displayed prominently they're an athletic wing and two different or three different places I should say and did she have 400 or 700 assists I feel like Cal is going to walk in here it was somewhere around here so I thought it was something yeah 1 700 points and 700 assists pretty remarkable so aside from all those accolades of being a brain Island resident and really truly loving the district here Brett is so well respected across New York state New York State not just in Western North he has served in many different vacancies these are professional development provider for the state and providing services for new athletic directors and
not only having them take professional development courses that you provide but you are also an advocate of continuously learning yourself and I remember correctly out of 53 State courses who have a mass I believe 47 48. so cells but just think about that for a minute 31 years as an athletic director still taking professional development courses which means that it's in his DNA to be continuously learning and literally that is our mission here we want to be role models for children to achieve the greatest potential and when we have a highly effective expert in the community that's willing to retire and come here and continue working for years to come we are so blessed and fortunate to have you so please ladies and Gentlemen let's welcome Brent Baker I love the school district my wife
enjoy the school district my kids love the school this time we're very fortunate as residents of Grand Island School District and everything that it provides so I'm very excited so thank you thank you Brad at this point going to ask the board to make a motion for um instructional non-instructional Personnel items a t and I one all the way through pni four as well as a motion for p and um that's it [Music] any objections fairy ties here though good evening I am looking for action on uh Finance items a through F this evening is that information that's information can I get a motion in a second objectives very good bye the rest of the items are for information okay I just had a quick question today and I noticed that we have a couple
that are over the um purchase um and my question is more you know everything's going on I I don't know what our threshold is I see there's one here for LW Graphics there's one here for about a violin repair property on the spot is just a generic question I just you know what is our threshold and is that something you need to look at and when is the last time we looked at it right we clearly if we have items they need to be repaired they need to repair a grade and I'm sure it looks like all the value Graphics is something we looked at but I mean we all know as we're buying things for our home that you know things are much more expensive so and then I think there's one other for
elevator repair but who you know it's it's repairs you never know what you're actually getting into so I just you know I guess my just my comment would be you know what is our threshold have we looked at it recently and is it it doesn't need to be like that right yeah so a lot of these were obviously before but I will um we'll take a look at that threshold and see if it needs to be adjusted to make sure that you know you guys are comfortable with that yeah I mean you know it just says everything else is going up oh yeah everything's gone significantly you know I just saw a couple things and you know I'm sure they go through that I know there was a question for violin and there's lots of
processes in place yeah since I've been here I've been making sure that there's three quotes for those especially you know even double checking after this recourse just to make sure that there's not better prices out there and things like that there's only been a few big purchases so far in the last month but uh but definitely trying to make sure that we're getting the best parts possible yeah just reading through it I was just thinking this question that goes up and okay anybody else have any questions providing of anything you wanted to mention there in your I have a couple things I have a couple things for Round Table later um anything for him yeah actually about feel free to talk about the needs okay so um we do we've been struggling to five bus
drivers obviously as as most districts have doing an emergency contract with Buffalo transportation the rate is about 566 dollars a day our rate if our if our drivers do it is about 516 a day um so you know with the lack of available bus drivers we might see more and more of this to come we are going to do a sign and drive event again at the end of September to try to recruit some more bus drivers but in the meantime we need to make sure that our students get to where they need to get 10. um so really we're not looking at much of a different significance [Music] and when would that decision need to be made to have that place uh very soon because we have to um we have to have all
our runs ready to go for the start of the year so would you be looking to have that on the next agenda correct yes is everybody okay with it because everybody's okay with that I could ask for emotions to approve uh recommendation for outsourcing so Transportation can I have a ction to approve the emergency bus requisition any objections carry five zero thank you just in the assets of time it would be hard to build it together thank you [Music] there's one item that you just approved I just want to thank everyone for the information from our Leslie Morrison project many of you who are involved in the PTA know at the Ohio and PTA we invite Sharon Kramer the wife of the deceased Dr Leslie Morris who runs the Leslie Morris Foundation she comes in
and she every year donates 500 to our libraries on a rotating basis this past year she had donated the item to the high school and she just released her check to us this year and that's one of the items that you vote on to accept that donation for sidway elementary so we'll be working with Janet Bach this year she's already selected the titles and the money is now being approved and will be able to purchase those so that they're in place early on in the school year so I just want to thank Sharon Kramer and honor of her husband Lizzie gloris and the board for accepting methylation they have donation that rotates schools right and it's a serious terms so yeah we've been receiving that donation for quite a few years now so it's excellent
we always appreciate you pay interesting every year so we're anxious to see what civically does With Their donation this year um so I'll save the action items um until the end so I wanted to direct your attention um first to the special education plan according to New York state law we have to have a written special plan out around every three years as you look through it it actually has to describe the programs that we offer in Grand Island on the back sheet there is data for three years of our homeschool students and our cpsc referrals a number of EML students also there is a budget sheet in there as well that also shows the expenses over the last three years um and then building specific it talks about the special education programs and each
building that we have this so that does get done every three years we are we were up because we saw here again in 2025 so we'll be going to be done then so if there's any questions um so Cheryl once uh now that this is complete will this live on our website it will actually it gets posted to our website um the current documentation of it and this is there now I'm going to make sure that everybody has a copy of this uploaded some sort of stuff but that would be under the people personally thank you great moving on to the second piece I know that we do have a policy committee however this was time sensitive we do have to share our attendance policy with our entire faculty and staff and the parents before
and or about the start of the school year I did have a committee together um a few weeks ago we really wanted to make our attendance policy um District K-12 we found out that it wasn't during the year this Federal mandates now have talked about chronic absenteeism you know at five percent which is about nine days we're supposed to do notifications you know at 18 days they become projectally absent so in order to consistently start at the sickly level and go up to the high school to show the importance of attendance and how we track it and make note of our students that are chronically upset we need to put something consistent in place across the board that will start right about the beginning of the school year the administrators and I and Bob and
Mike will be on the meeting next week um there we're looking at selling attendance lines at every building so that parents can actually call and need that attendance information involving the nurse and involving the social workers which we will discuss next week and then keeping track of it from there so it's just something that I wanted to include for the first read if there's any questions now if you're going to talk about that or answer those questions and then I will be looking for Action at the August 28th board meeting so that we can get something in place before the start of the school year so so we ready yes is new language yeah both C's actually throughout this whole policy so that it really needs to be um you know District specific and he
took the federal and state guidelines obviously and kept those and then just made the more specific to our school district any major changes um I would say that one of the major changes is the fact that you know it listed a whole bunch of incentives that we could utilize to get kids to come to school you know as a group sidway High School Middle School looks so different so we actually changed and kind of took out those pieces and put them um building specific and age-appropriateness um one of the other things that I believe was new was there is a number in there of 18 of when we would grab a student from a class Hillary is at the 8th November 18 that we put in at the high school could drop a student because
they didn't have the seat time in order to get that credit so that is the change as well [Music] that is that's that's the car that hits the limit of chronic absenteeism and that's after we've called your parents and that would be parents no Etc so let me give in on like a case-by-case basis I mean it's been an AM class and that's like unexcused right actually they changed it to excuse and unexcused wow difference between definitions I see the definition the definitions at the committee we you know we had a lot of discussion about excuse and not excuse me because again a district following you know you actually had the outline but you know what a district allows and when they don't allow you know we had that um you know we had that
discussion excuse would be you know about in the family you know things like that that's how I'm looking for it okay that's the answer are you going to just give anyone they asked great what is the difference what does it mean to my child if if or unexcused like what what does that mean I I know I know what it means to be excused and unexcused well what what what's the difference I guess in penalty or um consequences or what is the difference there is no really penalty came through to discuss that you know as far as you know penalty as far as notifying the parents really is no penalty for um excuse answers versus excuse every High School level it's a little bit different like yeah that's not a curiosity [Music] without yeah when
I was in school we spent some time on this and we actually outlined it in our high school handbook which I believe is still in there being a little bit sense but typically your excuse absences would be medical appointments they would be um visits there's an outline from the state that actually says what those excused absences are um is used [Music] but is there is there a consequence for that not necessary Hillary you're nodding if you want to say something but we sometimes that's our understanding I know tonight but now who's both of them so it's a little hard to distinguish between the two classes all year yeah they're getting an A and it's like April you can drop them because like so there's language clarifying that in the policy and it does articulate that
that it's not one it's not dropping them from a class but it can impact their ability to achieve the course credit if they have A's it typically would mean that they had excused absences so sue I think what you're asking is what is the outcome of an excuse versus an unexcused if you have unexcused absences you don't have the ability necessarily to be allowed to make up a test get grades for whatever assignments that you missed or even be afforded the assignments that you had missed for your unexcused absences so that language is also in the policy and kind of clarifies that for you but generally speaking those students who do have an A in a class aren't the ones who are having just the unexcused absences for a variety of reasons as Cheryl had
said the state tracking doesn't care if we have excused or unexcused absences and if our degree of chronic absenteeism Rises at our high school level those are things through Essa that can identify us as a school in need of improvement so the state is tracking that and that is why we've worked so hard on our attendance we did have a decrease in our chronic absenteeism this year based on a lot of the things that we put in place with our social workers letters as much as parents don't always like letters it does help with getting that information out there we've had lots of meetings so there are a lot of things in place at the high school and the same is true at all of the building levels there are steps being put into place
to make sure that we are doing everything within our power to make sure our parents are understanding the importance of attendance and that we're helping our kids who are struggling with attendance get back kids that are in sports right so like last year my daughter was in cheer we went to Florida for like a week and they don't care about school they schedule your you know events during school and I had to sign up you have to pay so much money I had to go for like eight days for her to go to world's cheer you know um so I mean that's five days right there I think it was actually six by the time we got back so I'm just wondering like in that kind of a situation the school was very wonderful they
worked with Sabrina and me like very well and I helped her with everything so you know it's nothing on the school I'm just concerned now if I take money you know this hasn't really changed this is actually what has always been in place at the high school we do try to work with families to the best of our ability but if you take a vacation or it is an unexcused absence our teachers do not have to provide that work that has always been the place in place as long as I've been here Mike was here well before and I will say parents understand it and school has always been fantastic go to Sherry's point for those families that that do play sports right I mean um you know if their kid ends up sick yeah
for a week in the hospital and they've had to take time off for scores and those are unexcused which I get you're pulling you put out of school I don't I understand all that I mean and then to say 18 days [Music] you know it's certain we have located individual with different cases so is it the state that makes us Market there um accountability measures and what I will say is the school tries not to be punitive they try to be proactive and they try to use it as a tool to think people with that process it's almost like an RTI process the communication and right now we did you know look at the figures at each and every school which I will review with the principles you know at our meeting next week and
you know right now we we really really have a chance to help whether it's word Smith or look at the language to make sure it's clear and articulating exactly what is being shared I thank you for that it's just every time you ask what what what's the difference you always get the wow if you're sick of this this and this or like so everybody understands whether it's going to be labeled excused or unexcused we just don't understand what the difference is me at right because we're signing the piece of paper to send our kid back in whether it's excused or unexcused right like so as parents we've excused them so it's just what the end result is right like where where and when it matters I guess is the question all the parents answer and
as a parent of the district I never fully understood it myself and that's why it was just asking for her creation and as a Part B tickets to um our clearance and staff comes back five days before our teachers stand because we have a menu new attendance Works throughout the district around the quiet Tech and I will be meeting with those attendance clerks to make sure make sense and they let you know the attendance of course will tell you well you know that's unexcused yep sure sure especially on the Smart Board a biology class is on excuses I'm pretty sure the superintendent yeah so it's just it's just you know you know the help for you know consideration I mean obviously we're not those those parents have pulled their kids out for sports it's it's
not often it's you know you know a week of you know a cheer or competition or those ball players that get pulled out in the fall frame whatever but you know you do that thinking if it's going to be healthy all year and then what if right right they end up with something and miss you know a lot of school spring or whatever and then all of a sudden it adds up to that magical number of is I think what parents piercings I'm also looking at some administrators who may have children doing the same thing [Music] than anybody else after some kind of sense built into this too absolutely so I will be having a policy Community um before the next board meeting and then okay the penalty pay is okay with that will be
looking for action on in the um policy you know maybe and then my last two items if I could just take action on my special education CSE and cpsc programs please all in favor any objections carries thank you very much I appreciate the board tonight and a nice summer night being here and our administrators I appreciate you as well and Rachel thank you for being here so tonight we're going to be talking about library book that was challenged by a Middle School Parent this past school year the book is called flamer it's a graphic novel and it was in our Middle School we only had one cat we had I believe Jen one Kathy and a child took that book out parent objective contacted Mr Fitzpatrick and my Gloria and in turn we put together
a committee to review the book so tonight in your superintendent report you'll see two documents one is the book challenge committees review and recommendation which I am going to accept the book will stay in the Middle School it'll be designated for 8th grade and above and Mr Fitzpatrick and his team will work together with the Middle School library to make certain that it's really still available for the age of for secondly I want to share with the Board of Education a new form that we have developed in the event that a parent would like to restrict access to instructional materials for their child so this form will be available on our website and be available in our libraries a parent can complete the form understanding that they're restricting access for their child only and not
for other children they'll complete this information it says in yellow I understand it's my parental responsibility to explain these restrictions to my own child they'll be able to indicate and provide a list the nice thing Mr Laurie about our library system is that the catalog is digital and can be searched both for the middle school and the high school parents can search titles and if object to a book for their own child they can fill out the Swarm this form will live with the librarian and the librarian will make certain that the parents wishes are followed for their own child so this form will be equipped in its place at the beginning of the school year I do want to thank the committee that worked on analyzing and reviewing the book and Mike if you
could just fill in some of the gaps on the left foot board and the community know the steps that were taken and the seriousness that the committee took was reviewing the book that would be great yeah sure um the complaint came last fall so we had a several policy meetings with our board to start kind of making sure our policy was as up-to-date on this as possible as part of the feedback from both policies as well as our attorneys so that policy 83 8330 is in place and we've also had a form that was that was a group that complained that you fill out if they had concerns with the instructional material or a library material in this case book was a graphic novel the committee that was developed as per the policy consisted of
two community members our school library our school principal in that building which is the Middle School in this case John as well as a teacher and then also our librarian um that met we met twice as a committee and also all read the book on everyone wrote the book I personally I know many of the people in the community took notes on the book the book had seven chapters one for each day of the week um the complaint in the Forum that was submitted indicated pictures of each of the pages that they contested so you'll see in the report that we looked at each page individually took notes on it some eyes but the possible concern was if it wasn't explained better complete and then talked about the potential value of the potential constraint for
that piece of the graphic novel for overall when we sat to kind of look at the report we asked ourselves a couple questions one does the the benefit of being considered as a whole kind of outweigh the parts that I were looking for the complaint we talked about the age appropriateness of the text doesn't belonging middle school should be at a different grade level and we also talked about some of the sexual concept that was concerning to the crypto my parents what is the purpose of the content is it is it quote-unquote chronographic or is it there to promote something other than sexual excitement is it there promote more of the you know the personal struggles I will mention that we many of us know and you were there the law conference this past week
Sherry you were at the law conference this past weekend and this is not a unique concern to the Grand Island this is something that entire country um the law attorneys were there spoke on this topic and you feel that we are in line with what what the policy is supposed to elicit how we're supposed to go through the policy and the question that I just mentioned that we asked I feel confident that the process the current related should occur as part of the policy I don't think there's probably going to be some people who are unhappy and I was proud [Applause] any questions so the information that you have here on board docs we will be sent to the complaint this week so that person will have it by the end of the week with
a letter from me as well somewhere but I just want to thank the committee as well and I think it's I think it's important to remember that our libraries are a resource right um I guess it's it's there for kids to take off books for pleasure and for reading or whatever but a library is a is a resource for our children and their needs to be books and um other materials there for reference if needed and I think we I think the committee saw the importance I just really want to thank them for remembering exactly the whole I guess of the library so thank you very good so I do the board ask him with other report a couple different pieces one looking at out-of-pocket expenses from our cheerleaders for their activities not only in
the column but in the adventure as well as how much money is being spent at the salaries and supplies so all of those documents are in the public content section of four docs for your review this is uh the memo that I shared with the board that's also listed here I did we did a little extra for the board just uh did a glimpse as to what's happening with some of the iPad expenses so for cheerleading and we have a couple of parents right here on the board who may have experienced this but the warm-up jacket and the pants and the sneakers if they choose one option or a second option the Bose headgear gloves and cam shirts as well as the camp the list here is out-of-pocket expenses I do know that this year
there was some fundraising which eliminated the cost of the process I believe so that would have been higher if parents have paid for the bus so you can see minimally 612 dollars for a brand new cheerleader to the squad and it that price goes down if if things that they're purchasing as a possible recommendation to the board and consultation of demand of the coach she had suggested and you know talked about this that the district in the future could add the headbands and the gloves to the budget which would be purchasing about 32 and keeping them I'm not sure if that is something that makes sense you know with respect to using those or not reusing them or just keep giving them to the kids to reduce the cost but then with recommendation I did
also put a little chart together if the cheerleaders returning the following year so the price will be about 4.95 as as opposed to the 612 to get started and then I just for comparison's sake I put hockey gear helmets and gloves and practice jersey and ice time is 720 for hockey um out of pocket for parents for baseball this could be upwards of 765 or a thousand if the student if parents purchased two cats I don't know if you've been to a baseball game or for some reason the kids have too bad so not just one when they go and it's usually something they purchase and use um yeah probably yeah yeah boys basketball is about 5 25. for sneakers warm-ups in the camp that they go to girls lacrosse is about 420 so so
just when you just look at just a small sample size um it's in alignment and actually just these sports that I've outlined looking at the 612 this policy in the middle of those other sports so just really just Mark for your information and then I think we have some additional information here so I think I was asked Maybe by Sue or some others Maybe Ashley wanted to know the number of participants in the sport uh what is budgeted for salaries and officials and then what is uh budget for supplies uh Tony Ann who is the new clerk did say that some of the these items in this column are Commission list items maybe not sorry not all needs but some maybe wish list items so all of course this report is in poor Dax reader
review we have the fall Sports listed and again the salaries for coaches and officials supplies and maybe the thing that might be missing here is the cost for transportation and then you'll see that for our winter sports and of course for our spring Sports so that's what we've put together after our last meeting it's in the war dogs read to continue to review and we'll be happy to answer any additional questions or answer questions thank you very much I really think so and now when people are saying Holocaust system surely to be concerning right it's just it's the same for a lot of the schools I think to I think I mentioned this last meeting it was more of a communication Community right I mean everyone that has children that plays horse and older are
on private costs right so going into cheerleading this year any other questions well I know I had the question about camp and the timing of Camp I know we just approved it I think there goes through August were we able to talk to the coach about getting the girls caught up so they're not missing any experiences the routines understanding of those pictures correct so here's what she did respond I did ask her that question here's what she wrote as of today which was yesterday she said she has not had anyone contact her about camp and not being able to attend so that's just one one notion the only sorry that's one right and then she said when we heard she's talking about she's talking about some kids who are trying out and mayor they may
or may have made the team when we are away at camp we will be sending videos of the routines in the event somebody couldn't enjoy can well that's fantastic yeah so though and this is probably so different than you know when we were in school they can take immediately a video of your routine and send it right to the athlete and then they're also going to um so that of course the athlete can begin to process and understand that routine and then she says when we get back we will have practice to help add them into that routine and the only other thing is is they have to have so many practices before and with cheerleading so there has to be six I really think that that has to occur s yes remember six for
everything except um football baseball pitchers wrestlers or Tim foreign so I guess my quest well I guess everybody's coming to miss your flight or going this year but I guess going forward we need to have a process in place and in the event that some people can't that they somehow have six practices so they're ready for that first football game because it comes past right yeah and they just meet with both coaches and both were committed to making sure those kids would be caught up great so but that's great information chaneliers yeah yeah and two days and today and you know for our community and the board these things get better when you you are advocating for us to be better so we appreciate that that's great and just a quick rundown of some of
the things going on this this summer the news with golf outing was a success and vocabulating the expenses and the revenues and we'll have a physical meeting in the future but I think the immediate Outlook looked pretty nice as far as The Profit over 10 000 even though it was a small number and it was very good that's a credit to the committee and an office Network so here are just some pictures of the golf outings and nice people had a great time my dad was 82 and he was out there uh golfing which was fun and Bob did a time at his very first date yeah it's not a bad day to start work okay play around the golf our students gave speeches uh just around dinner time and Mrs putay also joined them
and we had an opportunity to celebrate John Roth with his amazing 50-year run here as well as thanking him for all of his efforts and I'm sure he'll continue to help us out with the golf outing I want to give kudos to Aaron fevercorn he did a fantastic job building an online raffle system which it did an amazing job so not only were the attendees there buying raffle tickets but people in our social networks supported the effort as well so really great job and and there's nothing like hearing kids talk about the skills that they learned in our classes and backup experiences and their internships in the business community so they did a fantastic job we do want to recognize the Grand Island Lions Club for their I think 63rd and annual special needs picnic
our we have a robust special education program that is led by Max Bakula and all Max was there and his teachers and support staff were there Max it was really a great job not only about Lions Club but I think our kids had a fantastic experience really wonderful so this this is uh these are some pictures of our enl students who attended dick Crawford as you know is an amazing individual and he's given of himself and his uh friends to the Lions Club and they did a marvelous job and you can't beat the smile on our students faces uh enjoying this experience and of course the boat rides that are given from the launch Club out for all these kids all these kids are coming back from the whole ride and they just really and
uh so on and so forth the pictures were great and the kids really had a great time so we thanked the board for your support with us and of course our teachers and administrators who really lead the way in giving our children the best experiences besides this Friday Cheryl I know that our kids have gone on some amazing field trips to Fort Niagara and zoo and Casey's Cabana and anything else on the horizon next what's our last one this year um the Niagara Falls aquarium we are going yeah very well very exciting very nice one uh I want to thank Joe Cardone for leading youth Mental Health First Aid at our administrators Retreat it was an intensive Retreat there was about two hours of pre-work that we had to do before the retreat which included
professional development and tests and quizzes to measure our knowledge about youth mental health for State we did have the event at specific one Tower which uh big thank you to MT Bank for giving up the 23rd floor to anybody in the community who would like to reserve a room for free it was very very nice to go to this event just outside the district a little bit if the C ouncil of tacular reviews but really engage in some thoughtful learning we also like to thank the trainers from Hamburg Central School District who came out this is Tina and she did a fantastic job and three and a half hours of professional development for our folks the SRP are working exceptionally hard if you walk through a way out just admire how beautiful our floors look
and what they'll look like in September they're working so hard and hot summer months to get us ready and this is just an example of a just a simple maybe not a simple task but replacing a very old probably original sink at Kagamine that was really in bad shape and these guys did a great job and and with the supply chain and all of those issues that they were able to get this in for headline to open up an old bathrooms and honestly that is a testament to our crew here but also Felicia and her teachers who recognize that this needed to be changed immediately and they therapist for us so we thank them for that you can see the hard work and getting the floors ready and there are two trailers that no longer
are there but have been there for several years and the middle school property that held uh I don't know hundreds of thousands of pounds of plastic barriers over one sound tests and so forth so all of this is gone now and sent to a company Bob that is recycling that plastic and we may have even got like 10 cents for every 100 pounds or something yeah so it's nice we'll get a little bit of money and we're no longer getting right on the trailers we hope this is just an iconic moment that colbit is behind us so and lastly I want to play a special um contribute to Maria shenza primary teachers here at the high school she was in Delaware Park Shakespeare in the park getting measure for measure this is Amelia here really
just a moving performance you know sometimes you work here for many many years you have no idea how talented people are in our community and within our school system and she's singing in a reciting lines and playing an amazing character and she just it was really brilliant so congratulations to Amelia and then you've seen these numbers just as a reminder we're servicing about 318 students whether through academic intervention or formal summer school or e l support and our community that is also serving about 309 students so still a very busy place and lastly just a reminder about our biking tip line anybody in the community can use it to communicate with us any safety issues and of course you can email the board with any questions so thank you sir [Applause] education I'm sure you
had requested the mental health committee yeah it brought up last year and I know all the time sideline for a while I think appropriate I know our governor just had another big conference where she's not a superintendent um correct so what um what what do you believe this committee would encounters go out there what's your vision and what what do you want to attain who do you think the numbers would be because like everything you just brought up and I think I mentioned this to you asking about opportunities not that I don't think this committee is a great idea because I can do all of that has always been done to this table any suggestions any ideas anything as a nurse with who's on the ground that could all be brought up at any meeting
at any time to discussed by the board and of course it doesn't need to be rolled through a community process it doesn't need to you know there's need to be a committing meeting and then brought to you also approval you could really just get that stuff like here but if you think it's unofficial to have a committee then yeah I think that [Applause] but mine alone Upstate um I don't really missing enough so so I would love to have one I love the Dei committee right but that encompasses tons of different things that are going on it's so broad um this would be just specific Administration so the ti committee is really an administrators committee that's typically not out of committee the board membership I think we discussed that when we got involved with it
you were asked as a parent through it so we would never have like our committees would be 10 or 12 people 15 community members administrators maybe a principal and but it wouldn't be like those 30 people have said you know this one yeah I'm looking forward like a mission statement what it's going to accomplish um you know the members and you know how you're going to measure the achievements of the committee too and then I just need more facts from there because what you're saying is great I think that's the hope that everybody has but it's articulating that into a how that Community is going to be I I would think that humans I think for many students exist today for groups of people today that are dealing with these issues I think that the
problem would be if Administration thinks that they need input from others other than they're getting it from today that they should identify that to us I don't think this is a significant board should pursue right and decide who needs to be part of that process right and that might involve community members board members students Etc I think that's what I'm measuring here I don't think it's committee board because Committee of individuals who will you know be able to analyze this issue and provide you know High School I think yeah anniversary how it deviates from whatever is already in place you know so how it um how it like improves whatever we already have is as opposed to overlapping yeah I mean I mean I literally at this table would agree with mental health is a
huge issue so Joe is not saying what you're saying is not important it's just that we would like to understand what your vision is so we can say yay or May and who needs to be involved um you know I think it would be very difficult in just thinking about having a mental health committee and I think I think that would be hard right I just I think it would be hired to put community members and our administrators together to have one in each building so in in my in my opinion if we had a drink I think it would have to be in a broader player um but I don't know what your vision looks like but I think if you could put something's better like Danielle said I think that was was fantastic
and well representative put together what you're thinking how many community members who do you think from the district should be involved um how many board members and then we can take a look at it and then really the administration will have to take a look at it and see you know where it fits into Brian wants to add anything to that would you write that Wellness committee I don't know if you can accomplish that all together as well if you already are on that I don't know if that's on a group of attitude yeah well first it would be great for the Patriot vision and outlines and things and maybe as Danielle just mentioned maybe it fits nicely in the district Wellness Community nutrition as your own I think it's physical education but also could
include a major component s off but first I would you know just put together your ideas and working together um [Music] so we'll start with you foreign thank you but I'd like to see pretty sure to say thank you because you got to meet some of our newest players they I get to I get the privilege of working with many of the University who lead them first but I'll say in a time where it's very challenging to find quality into the people that want to go into this profession you guys have done it as administrator does a great job of bringing some good candidates or to still I know some of you still have some work to do but um they they really are the finest people out there it's an excellent candidates a couple
of things Max thank you for running here you think this is what year three for you now running a special ed summer school I think every year it gets better so thank you for that John and Adam I know Adam's at here but thank you for housing for that you know I know there's been some difficulties this year so I appreciate that and again I just want to reiterate what Mike said you know thank you to all of the administrators I know you've been really really really busy with a hiring process and forward I know Mike you have fun coming up and Hillary we have some aids to follow me so there is more to come I'd like to congratulate the new Iris even though most of them last week except for Mr Banker congratulations
looking so forward to working with you um we're very fortunate to have you so probably and Bob you've completed your first Board of Education meetings so congratulations that Cheryl um one last quick thing for me so uh we did Issue the purchase orders for uh The Vaping detection devices for the bathroom so that project is getting moving along um a good thing is that we had budgeted 55 000 for that project and the cost came in around 46. so those were federal funds so we do have about nine thousand dollars left there which I was quickly asked if we could uh there's we did a security audit around the campuses and um one note was that the um there was a couple spots around the middle school that could use some extra cameras so we
were hoping for some support from you folks that we've been doing amendment to that Federal Grant and use that money to apply a couple more cameras um I just want to say thank you to Jude and the disability Health tournament committee judo's does a fantastic job she looks really hard known as again a huge success so exciting that we raise more money as you all know our students read it at the middle school level and our high school level um for some of the programs we run here and we also give a scholarships out so thank you Judy for all your hard work we have rolled into August so all of you enjoy those last few um a few weeks of Summer Hey listen my son is talking about volleyball tryouts in the united wage
until August 31st I don't think he realizes that school follows with it but I'm going to give it to him um you know enjoy your Summers available how hard you work through the school year and I know you work hard on the summer but enjoy those less they used to be lazy days of summer I don't think so I know my Summer's been very hectic but I know I'm looking forward to the year my son's gonna be a junior this year so it's going to be very busy and it's an exciting time for him so you are all looking very tan out there so you know you're getting some done enjoy it we should have a couple things to add um one right that's just really amazing that you're joining our team we're blessed to
work with general for 50 years here in this District where really nobody can replace that and that wisdom and institutional knowledge of you know I know John will be here right watching his grandchildren just enjoy that athletic experience but we are grateful that you're here today so thank you for choosing us and for our boardage I do want to just let everybody know that tomorrow is a big day we are hosting 21 school districts two universities two BOCES some private schools and sort of federal and local law enforcement and a safety Summit showing them a product called zero eyes which uses our existing cameras to monitor for vitamins and we are we're very excited to be hosting this lunch and learn anybody in the board who's interested in humming it starts at 11 A.M tomorrow
in our High School auditorium and I'm just sharing this with everybody because we will add some testing going on with some of our law enforcement and Personnel from your eyes who will be walking around with a fake gun to make sure that the equipment works properly and does what it's supposed to do so I just wanted to share that with the board and our community you know there are a lot of things that school districts do to keep Kids Safe everything from mental health to systems and access points to school to enter schools and so much more this is one more additional layer and I want to thank the board for your support with us but also just kind of thank the board additionally for allowing the district to be a leader in this area
so so again if any board members would like to attend it's at the high school we'll have upwards of 70 people at 10 tomorrow from 11 until about 1 o'clock so thank you for that okay just a couple important dates I believe August 21st is the beginning for tryouts for most of our fall Sports August 28th we have our next board meeting 7 is day one made for our students in the classroom that's it because I don't have a list and those are the ones I know so I would like to call this me 50 can I get a note 48 can I get a motion second all in favor um
