the pledge and after the president is going to ask for a moment of silence for jim cooney who passed away on august 20th mr truman served as the superintendent of the schools from 1986 to 1992 yes some housekeeping uh please take notice of the emergency exits on the side and behind you there's no smoking anywhere on school property we're planning to address their board there's a signing sheet on the table and meetings being streamed on our district youtube page and thank you colin for being here with us and helping us help dad want to mention that um we recognize that the volume on our reading has not been always ideal and just we are working on that we're going to try to get some more microphones and make it better so i'll try to speak

as loud as i can thank you all right correspondence uh we have no correspondence to see okay accommodations um we have no commendations just uh two honorable mentions one is the uh annual alc welcome back barbecue was held on august 31st uh 20.2 some of our board members attended that i don't know if you want any [Music] it would have been perfect november okay we'll give you the date and then additionally the community uh health general montgomery day uh this weekend montgomery and it's always i wasn't able to attend this year but something that i just think is uh to me is the grandfather of all the uh um all community days uh in the area and they always do a great job and uh he's just a great homecoming for everybody that's associated with

the community as well all right next is the proposed consent agenda can i get a motion to approve reports a lot of work uh by a lot of hard work by a lot of people um you know it would be impossible to thank everybody um but i i want to say uh you know your uh beginning over the summer the work that custodial and and those ground screw do uh coordinating both construction that's going on in the district right now um they were ready to open um you know the administration the teachers uh certainly coming in over the summer but then communication day being uh ready for their classrooms and having you know to uh to you know begin uh an in-person instruction uh normal school year um it's just uh really been it's been

exciting for everybody um you know and it just feels good to have things back tomorrow um i want to also say you know janine morito is our person who does uh all of our registration and keeping us uh brad's gonna talk a little bit about our enrollment numbers but keeping us informed on where we stand right now and some of our classes at the elementary or a little higher than are getting close to uh we might be concerned um but uh we're well within where we'd like to be at all our grade levels and then uh finally rene marchand uh another unsung hero in the district who's constantly working with our buses and you know you read some of the articles in paper about busing and it's a it's a more complicated operation that's ever

been certainly and there's challenges throughout the nation bus driver shortages but um you know this uh she makes it look easy out front that's for sure because we just had a tremendous opening as far as that goes and then finally um you know we put in a um an addition this year of uh for safe uh quite a few additions actually but uh you know steve [Music] this and um was here earlier and and also the dancing simmons up at the high school um and sros in every single building and they've been tremendous uh you know so much cooperation from people to get to make that happen for us but i'll just uh give you an example of how that worked we had an incident over the weekend just in general terms where um you

know we might want to know what happened over the weekend and not be surprised about it when we walk into the building buildings we we got information from uh through the police departments through two different uh agencies working together uh that relate that to our director of security uh you know steve uh contacted all of us administration myself and nancy and we began working on this first thing in the morning and um you know they it went great and it's just an example of you know i think when we're talking about safety where what might have escalated into an unfortunate incident or student discipline or somebody getting injured uh you know was addressed in the morning and i think everybody felt pretty good about it and there was no disruption at all to what's going

on you know school-wise so um you know again you know knocking a tremendous opening and it's really uh hopefully uh you know keep heading in that direction thank thank you all right next assistant superintendent so as you know we've been doing a lot of work in diversity equity and inclusion at the end of september our administrative leadership team will be here in central office i'm with sarah purland with further training they have come up with three goals for this year in terms of the climate there's student student relationships student-to-teacher relationships and student to the curriculum relationships which means students being more engaged in the curriculum that they engage in so in october they will be presenting to the board they did work over the summer and they will be presenting to the board some of

their goals and their actions in the area including our client there will be another survey that goes out to the students and to teachers in november so we'll have more information about that um we're very excited as john solomono was telling you we have contracted with the boces for a technology integration specialist that used to be someone that we had on our staff called time however we have changed the model and she will be with us three times a week she's going to be in the district starting law this is a safety issue the bill guardian regarding a software program that makes helps teachers have more access and control over what their students are doing on their chromebooks and also to know at all times with websites they're accessing and if they're paying attention so

she will be going around the district in the next two weeks making sure teachers are informed and know how to use that as well as our class link software and then she will be stationed mostly at the high school where her job will be to help teachers use the technology to engage students in content areas and just lastly as always really we just want kids to be you want to come to school to find their niche so right at this time we have a lit almost close to 100 clubs in the district we are looking at all those clubs and we have put measures into place to ensure that we are keeping track of attendance that we have meetings and notes that are kept and at the end of the year we have a computerized

information on how those clubs are doing if there are goals and how many kids have attended over the course of the year is the assistant superintendent for human resources so we had our viking induction program for our first and second year teachers on august 23rd thank you to our presenters and thank you for all of you attending it was nice that you were there in the morning to welcome our new teachers it was kind of funny because it you know you were there for the morning to welcome them which was a big deal to them because several of them came up to me during the day and said they didn't think board members would be there they didn't know such a big deal and i said it's a big deal your new teacher's here they

felt very supportive so it was it was it was nice to be able to say that um so that ran smooth our presenters were great as mike said the opening of school has been smooth so far we've had a couple late hires that you can see from the recommended appointments here and we'll have several more for the september 27th quarterback meeting but we're pretty much fully staffed we're conducting interviews right now for substitute teachers paraprofessionals food service and custodial workers we've had several applicants so we're processing those as quickly as we can to get them before you as as quick as we can and we have updated two of our mandated compliance videos with the help of our labor council and the role out of that has been pretty smooth there's been a couple of

technology glitches that we're dealing with with our provider but other than that it's been uh it's been smooth and our employees are watching the video and uh reporting this issue so thank you thanks again for being there for goodbye so it has successful uh opening of the big parking lot the lights went up everything's nice and bright we went out there and pouring rain uh the three of us me and mr conklin and ryan and check to make sure there was no puddles and it looks great so um this week we're gonna wednesday thursday we're hoping to pave the new parking lot that's right in front of school next to the trailer uh weather pending when it comes and goes quickly tomorrow um and then striking will be on the 19th because we're going to

put the top coat on friday we want to give it a couple days to dry before the striping so this is as long as everything goes well on 19th to 20th you should be able to access that parking lot and it will be on your hair for a little while so um the concession stand is ongoing uh we're working over the weekend um get rid of the slab download everything uh we're out there with the surveyors taking on the building and should see footage being done this week uh which is a great sign still on schedule which is uh good news as well um we're going to be working after hours at golden elementary so we had a couple issues with the detail we had the detail revised by the by the engineer we've gotten

that back so you'll see nice coordinating with the district to work there at night to do the soccer work and then hopefully uh we'll get ready for next year um and speaking of next year we're we'd like to present to you guys uh due time about a month uh we're trying to pump some creative ideas to get some work done during the school year and not put it all into uh one summer workbook as you can see with this the student department was a ton of work um i think i wouldn't get any rain and you know you guys work exceptional hours to get it done so we'd like to try and break up some of that work over the school year um brad and i've been working together you know put together a sequence

of work you know something that's safe quiet something we do during the during the daytime during session so uh maybe about a month uh we're working on details we're doing a mock-up with the buses this week we're going to stage some buses make sure that you get in and out of what's being proposed for your lanes make sure there's no issues there so really looking into the fine details to make sure we have no issues uh going forward it's all new everything that's is brand new so um hopefully we can present that to you guys for appropriate due time any questions [Music] mr um has promised to build the restroom uh himself if he has to have it open by the spring season uh on the transportation side of things i have to say the

first it has been super smooth so far you know bumps in the road of course but the team we have in place uh right now mike mentioned renee the team over at first student becky finch paul adams uh nicole arteta in the main office there and their union leadership joe taco juan penny the team that we have that are serving this district is just awesome what they are able to do as far as recruitment and retention of drivers over there is is not the norm and uh you know we are very very glad that we have a good team to work with the first day all elementary school buses were off the property by 353 which on the first day of school is pretty unheard of bill and i both have spouses that work in

other districts my wife was still waiting for buses at 4 30. i believe bills was this too so um really a great start there so thank you to everybody involved and then last meeting i gave you a heads up the hvac service bid was out on the street it still is it's due back on tuesday so we should have recommendation at the next meeting for that that's all great thank you i just want to mention too um i don't think paddy bear but on the district website there's video of ryan schmidt and his team facilities and all the work they did over the summer throughout the whole building so if you get a chance to look at that it's pretty impressive okay uh next enrollment report sure so i'll just touch on it uh briefly

you've had a chance to review it um here's our opening enrollment and you can see that the numbers overall are pretty good um korea first grade a little bit high um holding hand a little bit high but just uh not enough at this point to go ahead and have an additional section there but we'll watch it as the um enrollments continue to come in slowly now but um if you have any questions please reach out to us you know the one thing to keep in mind when you look at the enrollment is if you see us for example uh three sections of 73 students you're going to see 24 so you got to realize that there is a class of 25 students when you see that because there's no dividing but it looks it looks

lower than it is it's like next oxford hello engineering yes i was able to attend the uh september 7th meeting it's nice to be back in person uh the plan is to continue uh the oscar meetings in person except they're moved to the carlonkin center opposites to allow for more room for more people to spread out the next meeting is october 12th at boces neil choudry and pam baez will be there to discuss the new um nil rules for student athletes and how it will or can affect districts that's the new uh name imagine like this for the kids that can be paid in sports um there is a voces tour for new board of ed members on september 28th or anyone who would like to tour the facilities they just need an rsvp i

think the 21st bill heck reported that boces had opened with the largest group of c-tech students ever and it was a very successful opening he said to pass along a thank you to all the boards for allowing them to come and visit and speak about the capital project um we did a round table and every district who had voted so far had approved the ima for the boces project and it was the consensus that everyone hoped for the remaining districts to follow suit due to the lower costs and financing flexibility um we spoke about the resolutions for the annual business meeting um they are on the nissbo website we can print out a copy for you to look at if you want or you can go on the musical website to read i do um

in your folders with kind of a cheat sheet of the resolutions there's a training coming up yes so just to keep track of what your thoughts are about each of these um so um we will read through those there are 32 recommended for adoption and eleven that were not recommended and just by the next meeting we should read through um these and let angela hear the vote right let angela know your thoughts so that she can vote during the annual business meeting which is monday october 17th at 4. um boces actually decided that they may have hosted a meeting or hosted everybody who were the delegates that day at the carlenkin center so that everybody can be in the room with their own laptop and do the meeting there if they have any questions they

can have a group of people there to ask they also presented a draft idea letter from senator spoopus oxford will consider sending the letter if the majority of the districts were in favor or districts can send their own letter and i just have a copy of a draft letter that was proposed so i can share that with you guys regent wills also came to the meeting and spoke for a while she wanted to pass along a thank you to teachers administrators and all staff members for their hard work under incredibly difficult circumstances these past couple years uh they the regents are working uh what they are calling a recovery and revival of new york public education and taking uh the good stuff basically that they learned from the past couple years and trying to adapt

some of the things that they're doing and they she spoke a lot about the need to rethink some graduation requirements and form subcommittees on increasing different pathways to graduation all right next is community participation um i was able to go to sixth grade orientation for middle school my older son is in eighth grade but he started during childhood so he didn't have an orientation so you know familiar with the school it was really nice jamie and her staff did a great job but parents are very informative and my sixth grader was like yeah so that was good um and then i also went to the varsity soccer game and i have to say the best part about when the girls played great but the best part was i was getting here came here on football

field there's cheers very nice uh yes i attended the freshman orientation bus did a great job the orientation leaders were really interactive with the freshmen so it's nice to see the they're almost giving back the seniors were giving back and um the um vce education foundation this so the seed event will be on november 2nd at the table in montgomery together more information forthcoming and they are honoring um pat packett barbara barbara hackett that's the way and also eric quinnery but more information from the foundation will be forthcoming and just like he said it's great to see so many kids um active and playing and just you know games during the right season yes yeah yeah right um i was able to attend the jv football game last saturday no thursday excuse me last thursday

um which they won um which is very exciting and then i also was able to attend a couple um volleyball games on jd and varsity which had some good good good wins there um and it was funny because i've only ever seen uh volleyball during copa and so i was shocked when they were switching sides i didn't understand what they were doing so that was um it's like a party you know that music yeah our girls play the same team um again many sporting events in the backfield it's so nice to see so much going on and big crowds and lots of cheering and also uh i'll comment on general montgomery day two because i think this was the most participation this year from valley central groups that i've ever seen watching the parade and

it was really nice to see all right yeah i had a aoc of course and downstream convocation and a lot of other football games all right next we'll move on to public comment all right ladies and gentlemen portion of the meeting we have public comment because it's important for us to hear concerns and issues from our community members please note that the board is here to listen and the public comment is not designed to be a discussion if needed the board or designated staff member will research your concerns and get back to you accordingly we want our school board meetings to serve as an example to our students so we ask that we demonstrate mutual respect we as the speakers address their comments to the board directly and we will insist that all speakers and

members of the audience maintain stability and respect on opposing views the board reserves the right to shorten the speaker's time if the speaker violates the board's public common councils i also want to point out that under foreign policy we do not entertain any comments or questions about specific school personnel or individual students by name or by implication please note however you take personal and student concerns very seriously on these matters we ask you review our court policies or go through appropriate administrative channels we will now entertain public comment for one person in a while um so i did say i'll give you guys some props on security because today i was stopped because they didn't go the right way so security is definitely working better than it was um so um on the day before

school started and we've hired someone on mental health and i honestly don't know where they should be addressed um so i'm going to put it out to you guys and then you guys can address it because i don't know who the general address is 7 10 pm the t-shirts were informed their parents were formed we were no longer allowed to have to put bags in high school my children were getting ready to get ready for the next day of school this was tailspin i know it wasn't just me because the parent page exploded i understand that teachers also were not aware of this until 7 10 pm as well they were not they were in school all day i'm not informed that this is what they were walking into the next day so communication is

still a problem in this school because for a week i had to plan what happens with my children when the book bags were taken and my children were not going to have the book bags taken without a silent protest so they wore them all week and i know that there was petition started and so the students were going to petition to have the book bags continue there was a reason for the book that has given i'm sure there were reasons but i'm not going to put it out because it's just assumptions there was no reason given and parents me included were arguing on this this is a household in my house i did not have book bags in high school so i can see parents who say it's not a good deal we didn't have

book bags my husband came to be safe my husband is 42 years old he had book bags so he has that going i have book bags in high school when is this now why is it going on i have the kids i went out and got binders that's it where we're preparing how do you do a computer and all of this as girls women you understand so thursday evening no communication of why the change now that you can have a book bag still not why it's changed and so i put it up to you guys that communication as a parent they are our kids we're supposed to care about that mental hub and this put kids for a week on anxiety's book bags do we stand up for what we believe that we should not

have these book bags taken from us with no explanation of why or do we just go along with the rule because the rule is the rule and so you had two sides and the majority of the students said no we're not going to from what i understand i have 9th grader and 12th grader and so i put this up to you guys communication scholarship we said we hired someone for mental health and from what i saw on that parent page this put a lot of kids to anxiety already starting a new year and then on top of that what was going to happen and for a week well not a week four days before they were informed that they were allowed to still happen so i'm just going to put it out there it's a

disappointment especially since we just hired someone and that the communication is still an issue and it's been mistakes but it really wasn't appreciated as a parent i'm just putting out there to find out at 7 10 p.m we're already dealing with going back to school and all the habits and all that to be informed i was angry so i put it up to you guys all right we're going to move on to old business we have approval curriculum i'd like to lump them all together okay we have high school awards too against woodworking high school event ceramics and k25 steam [Music] comment board means we're going to pull that from the agenda this evening to have additional consultation with our legal team on the wording so we'll move on to new business which is the

adoption of resolution um the first is the authorization execution and delivery of joining the junior support agreement with honor ghost or boces i get a motion to about next is just the review of curriculum just unnoticed the high school introduction to education one high school introduction education two and k through five is available in the senator's office for review next is the approval of charters the first is the nature journaling club can i get a motion to approve second gene a discussion [Music] all right next is the adoption of resolution reduction of tax assessment and payment refunds due court order judgment so this is being resolved at the board of education the valley central school district approved the reduction of assessment and payment of the refund of taxes that's recommended by supreme court in new

york i'm counting down six thousand one hundred fourteen dollars and forty four cents uh penske truck recently can i get a motion to adapt sarah second thank you very much folks then
