001all right should i get a motion to come out of executive sessions meeting for september 13th um so before we begin i just want to ask you to note the emergency exits on the side behind you no smoking any lasting property that cell phone please silence it if you're planning to address the board there should be a signing sheet up there and um when she stands one nation under god indivisible with jesus [Music] before we jump in i just want to say thank you to our staff and our bus drivers at first students for the first couple of weeks of school here i think you did very well you know we're going to hear more about that but i just want to say thank you because uh i've had some challenges and i think overall

002things so thank you for that having said that i'll clean you down for correspondence uh just honorable mention of the alc welcome back barbecue which is always a very fair very very nice big turnout food was excellent and the conversation with the people the kids and the parents very appreciative of the work that alc does with the communities affecting them thank you all right can i get a motion to approve the consent agenda discussion on favorites i just want to thank the board uh for the support that we've had in the last year and a half spent a lot of time certainly the first few uh weeks of school of the district opening being out talking and speaking to people seeing people and um one of the things i wanted to say that one of

003the messages to uh i was an opening day we spoke about um some of the things that you folks are proud of from our and uh i have a lot of comments people say well let the lord know we are so appreciative of working here at valley central where kids are first and we have the opportunity to have our kids back in full and uh they couldn't have been happy uh and if there's a few outlets a lot of news that they say um i haven't heard of them we haven't heard from many over here so please thank you for that support um school there's no work the guy high school principal said it's late we took a long weekend and a lot of work that goes on i know it doesn't feel like that

004people have to do all the work but uh that's how it feels to the people kids of the community i think a lot of uh a lot of instances where they come back they hit the ground running and we're ready to go and uh mary anne led a great effort to bring kids back to have some good things things to welcome about the first two days the calendar doesn't always work that way but that was a great calendar for us to have two days a little break in between and then not coming back so um i just want to let you know that brad will speak about the uh the bus and certainly in his report um i know you're reading all over the floor in pearl river this points that place all over bussing

005is an issue brad and renee and uh jennifer have worked extremely hard all summer to make sure our kids are rallying right and uh and i just embarrass him but he's out there every morning and every afternoon making sure because we're under construction making sure that the bus is in the instant flow now i'm going to tell you i've been telling you secrets uh i came in today i was running a little late it was around seven o'clock and uh it's backed up to railroad tracks but i think this is the volume of traffic i don't know that that's any change we were saying with the lights but uh we're trying to police sro uh hundreds been great moving the cars especially so i want to thank everybody for the hard work and enough support

006on your big school thank you thank you all right next is the assistant superintendent for cultural instruction and i will keep a quick thought because we have some guests with us tonight but really i couldn't be more grateful to be back doing what we're supposed to be doing a lot of great things that we do for kids and for teachers to actually be in buildings where the kids are there and working with teachers in person and some of the great things that we're working on right now are is our back as our before school program for elementary students so we're going to principals right now to identify the kids that will benefit from that program that will start in october um we are training our teachers at the middle school and the high school for

007checking connect which is really going to help our kids who have attendance issues and who just don't feel connected to school and we're back in with jim wright working on our multi-tiered systems of support to make sure we're addressing those academic gaps that came about because of cobit and also making sure that we're focusing on our strengths so i'm just you know i feel you know there's a lot going on but i feel very grateful to be back doing what schools are meant to be doing so that's that's it [Music] next so an email went out to all staff on thursday with guidance from the governor's office we notified the staff of our faculty and staff of the coleman testing requirement that's set forth by the governor's office in new york state department of health

008the requirement was that testing began immediately for all public and non-public school employees currently new york state department of health is working with local departments of health and or regional both needs to set up a timeline for procedures for testing once we have guidance for the testing our staff will be notified accordingly and subject to all requirements set forth by the orange county department of health the exemption to weekly testing is for those employees who show proof of being fully vaccinated and we're getting proof of vaccination cards emailed to the school nurses and to myself daily um based on the current numbers i spoke to connie again today she she thinks we could go a little bit higher but based on the current numbers that we have reported proof of vaccination we're about 70 to

00980 percent for our faculty and staff who are fully vaccinated and we have some that just have a single dose yet to receive a second dose um once we have that vaccine once we have the vaccination updated we'll uh we'll have our records accurate for when we need to start testing our faculty and staff was also reminded of the cdc travel guidelines for those wishing to travel domestically and internationally the guidelines vary greatly for those who are fully vaccinated and those who have not been vaccinated both the new york state department of health and the orange county department of health have stated that the cbc travel requirements should be followed and there are no additional restrictions for new york travelers at this time from the new york state department doing the best we can to

010keep our faculty and staff updated to to what's happening at the state and local level and um and i'll be emailing them once we have information about the test how it's going to be rolled up okay just mentioned something that we already um i've been on several calls as brad has about testing live discussion but nothing uh in concrete um angela works in ulcer county and they've come up with a plan and we've forwarded your plan those mechanics plan so our arms gonna be helped with the hope that they would follow but nothing's been decided yet there's been a lot of discussions at all different levels next is the school business official report okay i've got quite a few things here tonight but we'll start with transportation so uh as you know there's a there's

011a bus driver shortage nationwide it's not just unique to orange county um we are fortunate enough that we worked with a great team over the first student in walk hill um we i was on a uh an email that went out to all the northeast districts back over the summer where the area manager for fur student was just making districts aware that that they were having some shortages and and they were going to do their best to uh make sure all the routes were run um i tell you we are fully staffed at first good and walk hill there's not extra drivers at this point um we've done what we can do to make sure that they're all covered and they do have some spares and what you know when we have other of our

012neighbors that can't run routes during um you know days like friday and today first student is so great that they if they know that that you are going to be out tomorrow for whatever reason you're doing a sports trip or you know you need a day off they're putting a spare driver on the route the day before to learn and understand the route which makes it go smoother so that's just one thing of what they do over there walk bill which has been so beneficial to us and one of the things that um uh they were they were talking about over there is they're one of the only first student locations in the northeast that had everybody come back from last year to this year and it's because of what they do they they have

013uh you know everyone's filed a food truck come over between their runs on the hot days in june you would see the terminal manager and the safety manager walking up and down the bus lane when the buses come back from their high school run giving bottles of water and ice pops to drivers and it's the little things that they do to try to recruit and keep their staff which is hugely beneficial to us is it possible in the future we may have some rounds that we need to uh cover in other manners yes and renee and i we're working on that to have a plan in place so we do come to a day where we have three or four runs that we can't cover whether it's drivers via now quarantine or you know who

014knows what this testing will bring uh we will have a plan in place to deal with that and uh closing school will be an absolute last resort um so overall it was a pretty smooth startup we didn't have floods to deal with on the first day so we did have some road closures that we had to deal with that was uh it was an interesting um we were up and going at 4 am that day i think the third day we had the accident on 84 which turned 17k and 208 into a parking lot for the afternoon dismissals we had to deal with that um the traffic on 17k in the morning has been absolutely horrendous and uh after the first day we worked with town to make sure we have two police officers there

015to help not only get people in but get people out i don't know if the traffic light is how that will help that um very much and i think there's a couple of factors here one is it shows how important that middle entrance was for us that we lost and now so whereas in the morning where you had a lot of the high school staff and student drivers coming in to that exit and the buses were all going into the middle school entrance i'm sorry it i think it just helped with the flow a little bit um i i had a conversation with the d.o.t engineer today and i said okay can you can you give me a time frame on when these lights will be operational and he says beginning of october is when

016they expect to be up and running and saying you have staff on site so you know to kind of help with the flow in the morning and absolutely there's a uh there's a testing phase where the contractor will have to be here along with the um with an inspector so really the issue with uh we had a number of high school buses that were late over the first couple days we renee was down there the last couple days we were uh writing down which buses were coming in at what at what time so the buses were picking up their students on time but they were getting on 17k and for example uh bus 14 when it makes the right off of goodwill road onto 17k to come up to the school it's just 10 minutes

017it's taken 10 minutes for them to get up so we identified which buses had to start early we did that today so the drivers notified the students on friday that hey you gotta get on five or ten minutes early on monday we had a couple kids that that forgot uh we didn't send a reminder call out over the weekend so that was kind of today's pickup but but it got better but the point is we're doing all we can i know the high school has requested to have dedicated procession buses this year we're just not able to pull that off yet um so we've kind of come up with a plan for the high school students that stay post actually we'll go home on middle school buses and then we've identified uh four buses that

018are here at uh the elementary runs here at korea that have a fairly uh quick run for example or country club buses that can get to the middle school and do a post-session run so that's that's how we're going to run it here to get started um but really it's the traffic unbelievable um but we did pretty good today um so i'll go to the capital project update so you've gotten my messages we've tried to make some adjustments uh last year we ended the year with when that middle entrance was closed off and we had the uh the traffic to deal with the high school people coming in we were able to loop the traffic around the west side of the middle school around that parking lot we learned very quickly on the first day

019of school that that wasn't going to be a possibility this year the volume of pickups is unbelievable and i don't know if it's just a factor of covert or what but um last year we were counting 130 cars approximately we're picking up students in the afternoon and while we didn't do a count this year i tell you we ran out of room much much faster than we anticipated then we so we had the gridlock on day one um so then we we made an adjustment and we said that once that first lane is is filled up we're gonna send everybody down to the high school parking lot um some people understood that better than others and kept people looking around so now we have we have changes so all middle school high school pickup is

020going to be down at that um the middle school or the high school parking lot which today it did help tremendously it just helps get people off of 17k faster it allows buses to get in quicker and i think today uh alone compared to friday we had like a six minute improvement on rolling buses out at the middle school so we were able to get about six minutes quicker today we are dealing with some construction down in the village of montgomery which is tying up a lot of our buses that are coming back from the west side of our district um so right now our afternoon bell time for the middle school is 2 50. today we were able to release students around 252 and um we're trying to speed the kids up getting on

021buses at the high school we have a couple uh couple that like to drag their feet or they go down they go all the way down to middle school to say goodbye to their boyfriends and girlfriends and then they've got to go up to plus one up by the authority we're gonna start rolling buses and if you miss your bus you're gonna have to stand around wait or have a parent come up pick you up so we do have uh we have a meeting scheduled with the engineers tomorrow to review the draft preliminary site plan as far as a new parking lot new bus lanes at the high school i should have something to share with you at the next meeting but as of right now the plan is that the work will be phased

022in over two summers down there the bus lane being one summer and the the high school parking lot and the new parking lot that will be up in front of the high school there on that grassy area that would be another summer it's just too much work to phase in to a couple months um as far as the bathroom facility goes i don't know um exactly where they are in the design of that i know the engineers were out uh inspecting the tank locations in the back that we have to connect to so i should have some more information on that at the next meeting as well also we have our engineers looking at the playground here at korea so we have um two kindergarten children that are in wheelchairs and we do not have

023dedicated uh play area and play equipment for them so we're seeing what we can do for them in the short term and we may be able to use some of the art grant money to uh help us out with that um the traffic lights i already hit on so central hudson is going to have the power connected possibly this week if not next week and they'll should they'll be operational in the beginning of october our carissa grant was approved that was um the work that's going to include some ventilation upgrades at walden and the middle school covered in instructional areas for outdoor classroom spaces this will be our pavilions um some classroom furniture we were able to purchase some special education seating this carissa grant will also cover some improvements in the art and the

024wood shop um our plastic dividers that we bought last year um when we all the districts were buying them we were able to recoup our money on that and uh at this time there's no time frame for when the ventilation improvements will begin but tom's going to be going on the uh design work for that there's there's not there's there's a period of time in which you have to extend the monies by but i think it's uh through the 23 or 24 time period but we're gonna get going soon as possible and then just a quick audit update so our external auditors are in the process of wrapping up that audit for us uh if they are good to go which i did see an email late this afternoon we're going to ask you a

025lot of committee to get together on uh september 27th so you'll get a copy of that ahead of time that's all i have all right thank you thank you good luck on your ceo broadcast you know i i actually have thought about it um i don't think it's a good idea for me but i know renee in the office she has expressed interest i know that we do have some custodians on staff that that are approved um or have their cdls which have gotten to the first process but um yeah i mean for the public if there is any interest out there for uh somebody to become a bus driver give us a call we'll put you in touch with the right people but um we're in a very good position compared to some other

026districts right now right thank you next is the enrollment report for up about 35 kids you can see the numbers and the one thing i want to bring your attention i think earlier in the summer um for my montgomery uh three five we were around 27 kids uh students in a class and they did some uh adjustments and as you can see the numbers are much better now on the highest class in the company it's 24 kids in class which is not outrageous for a third grade certainly if it's a little lower choice nice but that number's not bad so they did some nice suggestions for those and um i think the other thing they prepped me for um probably the amount of kids who are on it could be anywhere between you know 80

027and 100 but now we're up to and i don't know this to be totally factual but from what i hear people telling me a lot of people are waiting for there to be a vaccination for the littles but before their little ones with the back to school i mean it's it's a lot different principles will tell you that and kind of forgot what it was like to have you know full buildings but we basically have full villains i did send out a message to the community this past i think it was sunday just um you used to get a lot of messages from me that said you know we had this many positives which resulted in this many quarantines but basically we have had absolutely some um coco positives that have not originated in the

028buildings they've originated outside the buildings they've led to quarantine but it is much fewer children per quarantine than usual so last year when a child was coca-positive we ended up probably quarantining sometimes you know 20-30 people and sometimes the point where one student would close down a building because they had you know so many teachers were quarantined and we couldn't stay up the building so that's no longer the case usually every culver positive in a normal case ends up with a quarantine of about five or six children based upon the new quarantine so i sent a link out to parents that they can access it should be live this week we started reporting today you go to that link you put in the school that you're looking for and it'll tell you how many positives

029there have been in the past seven days you know in the past 60 days and that way you know i'm not annoying people every friday afternoon with a million emails um but overall i do feel like we're in a very good place there so there that is a combination of synchronous and asynchronous there does need to be google needs happening when kids are in quarantine um on they we always say what is best for the student what does this student need um so that plan is on our website if you're not sure what that entails and teachers are doing that i know that we i'm not sure about how many but we probably you know have a few dozen or maybe a little bit more than that right now students in quarantine okay all right

030next is the oxford delegates i was able to attend the meeting uh virtually on september 1st um they spoke about the new convention which is coming up in october and they will decide by the end of september if it will definitely take place um that was a majority of the meeting they did speak um the actual representative was able to attend the nisba's diversity equity and inclusion committee meeting that was over the summer they won implicit bias training and their next meeting is scheduled for september 25th there was a round table of all the school districts that talked about their opening uh like the big consensus was um busting issues and no bus drivers so thank you again to our transportation department because we didn't seem to have any of the problems the other districts

031were having and um a lot of contentious board meetings public comments that was that was about it all right next is the racial and social ethnic community did you want me to report on that okay um it was actually just we kind of got to know each other we all the new people that were brought into the committee were introduced um we took little things about ourselves i met everybody for the first time it was nice to see so many students there i didn't realize there was and we talked about um about deciding on the questions right like what the survey is this is it again it's the survey topic yes specific topics that's right about um what direction we were going to and how we were going to uh decide what those topics were

032um i don't know that that decision was actually made by the end yeah they said that it would be the committee that chose the chocolates but i mean tomorrow okay that's what i'm not sure about but i think yeah i think we're going to keep it within the smaller committee um yeah and that was that was it there was a lot of people there actually so it's good to find out [Music] yeah so that's what i wanted all right next is our high school presentation all right uh good evening everybody thank you very much for having us for those who don't know me my name is mike conklin political principals uh over at the high school all right i just want to introduce and first of all thank you for having us tonight um and

033thank you you know board of men central office administrators all your support is very much appreciated um i want to introduce you to me tonight i've got dr russell burns right there other co-principal i am miss becca stoll who's one of our teachers and it's also an administrative intern for us this year and then michelle sim is our cas coordinator which we'll talk about tonight and she's also a social science teacher um when i mean russ uh first took over we kind of said to ourselves well like what's the portrait of a graduate right what do we want kids from valley central to leave vc with and what skills is those we talk about 21st century skills getting them ready because because honestly not every kid is going to go to college right 1400 kids

034not every kid's going to go to college some are going to go right into the workforce so we're going to go to the military and some are going to go to school but we want to prepare them and that's why we're excited to be in front of all you tonight because and you know it's september so we got some work to do but we're really i think heading in the right direction so our community's at school program which our mississippi will uh elaborate on and then our career pathways is what we're going to talk about as well it's going to be kind of an initiative we're going to take part in by building those relationships with our community you know it's crucial you know and you know me and russ i'm meeting with brian moore

035talk to him about opportunities it's just building those relationships for our kids with those businesses to bring those opportunities into our building and we think it's crucial for them to develop these skills so our presentation tonight is kind of like where we were where we're at now but most importantly where we're heading and uh i'm going to hand it over to mrs hi thanks for having me my name is michelson and i am mainly a social studies teacher um but uh several years ago i got asked to help out um when mr kramer who used to run this program uh lost his voice and had to take medical leave and i have been using the program for a while now myself and mr sheekanic work side by side i am the person in the building

036because i do teach five classes and i do this as a duty um and mr seganick is what we call our site listing liaison he goes out to the different businesses and helps place the students where they need to be so how does it work why didn't that change okay so how does it work first guidance identifies the students usually what happens and this program has been in existence for 25 years it started with don christelle whose head guidance with the help of diane ruggles they created this program when both these costs started to skyrocket and we took the tap out of valley central so you used to have woodworking and all these skills at valley central but once we moved it out and went to both seas we kind of lost those opportunities for

037our students and then it became graduate out and they didn't want the dropout rate so mr crispell and miss rubble sat down and they figured out what to do to help and they found a program called city as community and i think it was out of uber they still have a very similar program but they decided to change its community and they started reaching out to local businesses and said can we have students shadow you to gain credit for schools they don't want to sit in the classroom they can't attend boces either because their attendance was horrible or there was not enough spaces for us to put them into boces and so what guidance does is they identify these students and they pass the students down to us and then they sit down with mr

038seanak and myself and we kind of give them an interview what are you interested what do you want to do several years ago it was a lot easier a lot of kids were into building cars so they were very much able to go to the auto mechanics but most of these kids have no clue where they want to go to right now so that has been a challenge but we're working on that um so we meet with them we offer them several potential placements this is where mr sugat comes in he runs out all over these places and says hey i got this student hey i got that student can you meet with them when can we meet when can we bring them over how does that work and they then meet they interview and

039they say okay i'll give it a shot they usually have a two-week trial if it works it works if not you attempt to find them a different placement that fits their needs and what happens is once the student finds that placement to get a credit to recover a credit hour they need 120 working hours and that's not the only thing they have to do they have to do written assignments they do leaps which are what is it called learning experience activity programs so for example the student is making up an economics program i make sure they're doing an assignment that is economic based maybe a budget if they're working these are some of our community environments you'll see um the humane uh societies involved i asked them to say what their food budget is and

040how much does it cost them and this is what they turn into to get their credit so you can see we have a lot of people involved uh our newest ones are brady's bistro and touch of tory the hair salon our old timers are the walden library the humane society and the montgomery nursing home one of our cas students is working accounting in the montgomery nursing home she would not have graduated without this program so this is what bob goes out and gets them placed and figures out where they need to be and as you can see our own logo is up there the custodial program is a godsend they find out this is what they don't want to do sometimes or this is what they do want to do for example i had a

041student this summer she said thanks to cas i graduated this summer and planned to apply as custodial para at high school she's working at dunkin donuts as a graduate she's now like okay i have a different pet the the woodwork sorry stonework is from twin ponds uh one of our students worked at twin ponds not only did he build that fire pit on site but he helped the excavating farms and he created these huge budgets and how much these uh projects would cost and this is what he is actually doing in his future this again it actually went out and watched him plan out and plot out how to build that while i was stuck in class and that's our custodial so where are we going with this well brandy reached out to me from

042the greater montgomery business campaign business council and says how can we help more there are community members who want to be more involved how do i help you so we're coming up with this idea in which we're going to design a program which the students will rotate from different placements and once they find their placement they can stay there and get their credits we've had people at quality who've actually gotten certified in after they've graduated breaks and technician stuff and also at bedrock as well they've done their time unfortunately sometimes we're not as successful as we'd like to be but our numbers really hold true these are the ones that i was able to pull together really quickly in 2019 2020 we had 30 students enrolled 19 of them seniors 14 of them graduated because

043of this program two others dropped because they just didn't want to be involved in school one drop out of school we think they moved more than anything we just don't have a location for them and two did not complete during that school year but continued on into the next year to get that credit um the summer of 2021 we had 13 this summer we had 13 students enrolled i had three seniors and one junior complete their program the rest are continuing into the school year two decided to go out and take the math class so right now we have 11 students as of september looking for placements and uh being part of this program so that's a community of schools any questions is it just juniors or june no it's open i have 10th graders

0449th graders are a little difficult because transportation um because their parents can't get them um the bus company has been extremely generous in getting them to drop off at different locations but we have to have an existing bus stop at those locations we offer any after school in school work to life programs as a child at mes i was a custodian over six or eight months we do work with the custodial program um a lot of kids don't like to work at the high school in middle school because they know too many people and getting them home from the elementary schools is a little bit of a problem a lot of our students don't drive so we do when we have the ability ryan is very gracious when i call him and say do i

045have a place do you have a place for me so um can you talk on that that's what the student looks like so is it like 18 credits like or is it issues we try to do it one credit at a time um attach them as quick as we can for for recovery because what happens if you start seeing the numbers they start looking overwhelming to the student there's no way i'm doing 360 hours there's no one like they look at 120 hours and they're like i can't do that so we try to do it one credit at a time state does have some limits on what we can i cannot give credit for so the main component of this is they have to have failed the actual class so we can't replace the class

046because what happens is that failed class is c time the other is the extra to give them the credit to make them like it's almost like you've got an incomplete class this is getting in your passenger so the class would be obviously not yielding a reading exam so it could be it can actually yes but they have to pass the region's exam like i have who did for global nine but they passed the global tent regions um they passed another map they get math credit but they pass what they need to get the region's credit or the region's diploma some of them we have don't even get the region's diploma they get um what's the diploma so it's open to anybody who wants to work and wants to try it um many of them succeed

047and continue doing this um for other jobs some of them literally say i don't ever want to do that again it was too much i'm going to stay in school so um it works both ways yeah thank you thank you so much crystal is going to continue on with the valley central high school institutes good evening so we're looking at creating a new way for students to select their electives at the high school so we want to model it after more of a college program where they're choosing almost like a mini major within high school which will help them with their career readiness but it can also help them with their college choices so it can do things like excuse me like if you're interested in something and you take a bunch of the classes

048in high school finding out maybe this is not a great fit for me it's a lot cheaper to find out when you're in high school than if you go to college so that's kind of our vision for this program so after doing a whole bunch of student surveys we did elective surveys last year and we come through all the data to see the classes that we currently offer that students are interested and we ask them for suggestions on what classes they would like to take we came up with seven different institutes so we're going to have these seven institutes at the high school so i will break it down for how we're going to roll that out in a minute so these are the classes that are these were the institutes that we could create

049with the courses that we already have here at valley central so we have a business and entrepreneurship institute a career in technical education institute a fine arts institute a leadership and education institute performing arts multicultural and steam so we have a wonderful selection of electives as it is i believe we have 90 electives at the high school that we currently offer so it's just a way to help the students focus on what electives to take and give them a track that they could take through the high school so we currently have a placemat already and we're going to continue to use the playset this is what we're going to use along with this so not every student has to complete the institute program they can continue to just take more of a liberal arts type

050of high school experience where they take a variety of different electives without a focus but some students like i mostly teach fashion classes i have students that i have all four years and end up getting college credit at the end so students would end up graduating with a institute that they could have so there are going to be required classes that they have to take within the institute and then there are the optional classes so just like a college major where there's required courses then you can take the different electives that go along with that that's kind of what this looks like so we sat down with all of the department chairs and the guidance department to find out what classes we think were most important that need to be required and what optional classes

051would fit into there so the students are going to have to take three credits within each institute they could take more if they wanted to so these are our institutes the required classes and the optional classes there and then this is the second page for the rest of the institutes so these are the requirements that the students are going to have to do in order to complete their institute so they are going to initially choose which institute they want and some students they take a lot of elective courses and can graduate with more than one institute which is very exciting so they're going to complete all the required courses they're going to keep track of all of their completed requirements our guidance counselors are also going to keep track of it but i want to

052put some of the onus on the students to make sure that they know just like in college you have to make sure you're taking certain classes in order to graduate so that they get used to that too but it's also going to help with career tracks if they want to go into this so then at the end they will get a certificate of completion we discussed putting a sticker on their diplomas initially but a lot of students get a ton of stickers on their diploma and it starts to get too busy where there's not enough room so we'll have a separate certificate that they will get by graduation so this is our rollout plan so we are in year one right now with our soft rollout so we're encouraging some of our incoming freshmen to

053participate so we did talk about this program at freshman orientation this year so they're starting to hear about it a little bit we're going to have the guidance counselors talk about it with the students as they're making their course selections for next year and also if any students want to change for the spring semester courses because we do offer some halfway courses as well next year is going to be our hard roll out where all incoming freshmen are going to learn about the institute program when they are selecting their high school courses year three and four is that we're going to have the first group of graduating students who are eligible for this certificate we put three and four years because some of the students graduate early some take four years and we are opening

054it up if we have any um sophomore juniors or seniors that are interested in this program and have the required courses that they can get it early as well and after year five we're going to assess the program and see what our needs are if we need to create new institutes if we need to if there's courses that we're missing within the institutes that we feel would be beneficial along with that is some of our potential offerings so we do want to do similar to what mr sin does is have some sort of a community service or internship requirement with the students maybe make them have to do a couple of hours of community service within their institute with a local business facility we also would like to have more education for the focus courses

055we've had students every year ask for an intro to teaching class something like that and we do have the entrepreneurship and for the camera right now we do have one of the things that would really fit in as well there so we also would like to have an introduction to teaching club i know it was discussed i don't know if we ever went through that for this year but we did have some teachers that were interested in creating a club for the students and we would like to also create a health and wellness institute in the future that would be an integration of our physical education courses our culinary courses and hopefully have a mental health component as well does anybody have any questions so if i could just conclude uh thank you for having

056us and for allowing us to do this presentation to thank performance putting this together um it's been an exciting project because we as a fairly new leadership team are able to decide uh direct which way that we're going in the building and the college career and beyond scope is really where we feel that both the research and our students even more importantly and our parents are saying this is the way that we have to go and it's very exciting when you get a chance to talk to the students and when they have the exposure to to college or to career they get an experience of stuff too young lady today just coming back from boces and the teaching program that they have over there i said so what do you think about she says i

057love it this is so wonderful and i'm thinking to myself gee we got to get that here asap because not only they're a t-shirt teacher shortage but it just would be a great addition to our program here in the district uh so college career and beyond that's what that's what we're discussing um and really it presents a an institute a clear path for our students our eighth grade guidance counselors will be able to sit down with our eighth graders and show them that matt uh that miss stole put together and based that placemat and that student will basically be able to have their electives mapped out for them for for the year and they for the next four years if they wanted to and that's how we're going to get a hold of our students

058that's how we're going to get their attention and as was mentioned before we offer so many wonderful electives in the district i think a lot of times the students don't necessarily know about it and we have so many great programs and we really want our students to get involved in many wonderful programs that we have here so once again thank you for your time and we'll be uh willing to answer any questions that you have about this uh about what we currently have and and where we're going so our future steve how does that but like have we like trying to merge our activities we're almost directly in line with them and really it's been terrific because as mr conklin said when we sat down with uh mr mayor and brian meredith earlier in the

059year we sat down we shared with him this vision uh they have the same vision that we do uh using the kids from the town of montgomery all of the villages that we have here and equipping them with the skills so that they can stay within our community and and build uh our community so they we're really going in the same direction so in our conversation with him we see very much this uh when they have an opportunity to open up the he showed us the uh the building that they have town of montgomery um us having even a shared bus going back and forth where we can have students dropped off there and then they can come back here yeah i'll even go a little further like we have a job coach program that

060we're trying to kind of bring into our towns like uh we had basic skills life school kids that were going out to marshalls or burlington you know and that's middletown we want to keep them here uh you know in montgomery and maybe walls and places like that so that ties in that's why that's how we'll reach all of our students and um randy and i spoke about doing a job fair at high school to try to get local businesses the employment employees that they need and introduce employment to some of our students that are close enough for some of them to walk um so that they they can have jobs thank you i say something just in front of you i just want to speak about rebecca i don't think we ever acknowledged her uh

061meeting our neighbor and the public and the people out there in tv land but last year the council of superintendents have all winner and uh spring summit and rebecca was only c tell me the type of what was it it was the dr mary garner scholarship for women and minorities she was given that award she spoke at the uh at the summit in the mentor uh she was taking some courses on mr uh mike breidel from port jervis and that shines a positive light you know i know when i put these things and someone's getting an award you always wonder what's the school district and i usually go back and kind of look up and see what they're doing there because they must be doing good things so thank you rebecca for uh for that

062award and now apollo central did a great job with is community participation uh just going to uh the middle school in high school it's like sports are in school here and kids are really enjoying themselves and you so it looks like you know it looks normal it looks great not for me but i didn't just want to say that you know i'm seeing brad in the morning and helping with the traffic and not only brad it seems everyone i've walked through and everyone's out there helping and whatever so that's been really great it's much smoother it's tougher i was given the honor to play uh over the mall that evening it was nice seeing all the kids out i think group kids that i try to wrangle together uh they're having a great time yelling

063screaming the teachers are great and it's just been really lovely seeing your kids back many sporting events in the back field it's great to see kids out playing sports and kids and also the alc barbecue which is always a great time to go campus was jumping i mean i had to wait for a cross country all right next on the agenda is uh published participation uh we have paul g pierro [Music] and you have to forgive me because between the mask and my hearing i started to make out everything you say you're saying something about having the teachers tested um accumulating vaccination cards and you know just concerning the vaccinated who's not has anyone taken into account the antibody test which is victim of natural immunity historically natural immunity has been a major part of

064overcoming a virus and even now in the last week or two of different studies coming out that natural immunity deposit is much more professional than the vaccine and never in history right and the vaccine needed a booster every five months where natural immunity actually you know and itself but considering that natural immunity has been historically very important in overcoming viruses have you guys engaged in any conversations with new york state department of health where are you going to discern whether somebody has natural immunity okay as far as just the vaccine thank you um if you want to just before you go and give us your contact information and we can circle back again all right thank you all right next on the agenda sarah uh next is the second and final reading of our policies
