Good evening. Since it is 6 pm, I will now call the Boat Valley Central School District's June 11th board of education meeting to order. Would you please stand for the pledge of >> allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands nation indivisibley for all as a reminder to all of why we are here. The vision of the Boat Valley Central School District is to become the best rural school in New York State. We will accomplish our vision by providing exceptional opportunities to all learners and preparing them to set and reach their future goals by embedding our core values into their student experience. Roll call. Mrs. Belzio, would you please take the roll call? >> Tom Broadick >> here. >> Paige Broadcom, >> here. Paul Benton >>
here. >> Darlene Hooper >> here. >> Sarah Coen here. Deb Spalding >> here. >> Jason Welch >> here. >> Sandy Burgess >> here. >> Thank you. Mrs. Belzile. Attendees, if you haven't done so already, would you please sign in so we have an accurate attendance record. The signin sheet is located on the table by the entrance. Thank you for your cooperation. Recognition of service. We, the Bulfront Valley Board of Education, decided to start a new tradition of recognizing the dedicated service of our employees who are retiring. Since we didn't have a proper protocol in place last year, which we will address later on this evening in our meeting, we will recognize all of the employees who retired or will retire in both 2025 and 2026 together. Tonight we have the privilege of recognizing nine individuals
whose dedication, hard work, and commitment have helped shape our school district and have had a positive impact on numerous students, families, and colleagues. Each retiree being honored this evening has contributed many years of service, his or her own expertise, and caring commitment to our school. Whether in the classroom, the main office, the transportation or uh maintenance department, or any other essential role, they have helped make our district a better place for student learning and growth. While their careers may have come or will be coming to a close, the influence that they have had on our students and community will continue for many years to come. We are grateful for their service, proud of their accomplishments, and appreciate appreciative of the legacy that they will be leaving behind. On behalf of the board of education, the
administration, staff, students, and community, thank you for your dedication and commitment. We wish you happiness, good health, and many rewarding adventures in your retirement. So without further ado, I'd like to ask all of the 2025 retirees to please stand. Heather Olsen, Tina Belzilele, Bradley Shro, and Jana Atwell. As I call your name, please come forward to receive your special recognition certificate, which will be presented by one of our board members. Okay. my list. Okay, the first one is Heather Olsen who has Thank you Tina Bel 26 years of service [laughter] is not here. You can send it to the next Brad Bradley Sh with 25 years of service. >> [clears throat and laughter] >> Jana Atwell with 20 23 years of service. Okay, thank you very much. Would those who retired or will be retiring
in 2026 please now stand. Paul Buer, Carrie Mero, Robin Leage, Michael Mitchell, and Jacquellyn Shenain. Once again, as I call your name, please come forward to receive your certificate [laughter] of recognition. Mr. Paul Buer with 20 years, I believe, of service. [laughter] Okay. Carrie Mero with five years of service. >> 25 not sure [laughter] >> and we have Robin Leage and I believe hers is 23 22 years of service. >> Oh yes. Yes. Michael Mitchell with 21 years of service and Jacqueline Chen Sen with nine years of service. Congratulations [laughter] to all of the retirees. We truly appreciate your hard work and dedication to our district and wish you many, many years of happiness and relaxation in the future. Enjoy your welldeserved retirement. Let's give them a round of applause. Okay, number seven and feel
free to stay for the rest of the meeting or if you would rather get out of this auditorium, you're free to leave as well. So, but thank you. >> Thank you guys so much. Yes, thank you. Number seven, Catholic project update. Dr. Meyer, would you please give us an update? >> I would be happy to. So, for the first time in a while, I think we do have an update uh to speak of here. Um so, we've been of course going back and forth with uh state ed uh and we did receive some numbers. We'll talk about those in just a moment. Uh this has now gone back to our construction manager who is updating the estimates since the estimates were created and smooth to the state about a year ago. Probably not [clears throat]
quite probably 10 months ago. Um the construction manager felt it important that you know with uh some of the increased costs that he just double check uh make sure he still feels confident with the estimates. So uh we are still waiting to hear from them. So this these are preliminary numbers. Uh these can certainly change. Um but uh the MCA, which is the maximum cost allowance, uh we're looking at 25 million about $25.5 million here. Uh this is an increase of $2.5 million over the we we did receive some numbers um maybe a week or so after the May meeting and they I I immediately had some questions. Um, our architects had some questions, so we went back to the state, said, "Hey, this doesn't look quite right. Uh, can we um," so we had
some additional conversation. Glad we did. We got an extra $2.5 million out of that. Uh, and uh, I believe the custom is the superintendent gets 10% of any additional bonus. I got some left there. [laughter] Okay. Um so uh so the the whole project was estimated at um $31.6 million. Again, that's the number that potentially could change once we hear back from the uh construction manager just based on those those estimates. Uh but that MCA, the 25 a.5 million, that will likely not change unless we discover some other error in those numbers. So there there is a slight gap there. However, um however, uh we we we have a capital reserve that we've been adding to quite a bit. So, we are certainly not ready uh to throw these numbers out. And it's definitely not
as simple as saying 31.6 million minus 25.5 million like that. There's some other there's other things involved [clears throat] uh other uh you know other fees. Um for example, you need to pay the architect, you need to pay the construction manager, there's other soft costs related there. So, we're in a good place and we have some numbers that we can now talk about, but these are not all the numbers you need to have the full conversation. Also, our fiscal adviser, that's Dr. Rick Tims, is has just gotten these numbers. Um, so we certainly don't have anything back from him yet. I'm hopeful that maybe at the July 1 reorg, we might have a little more to talk about, but that is only in a few weeks. Um, [clears throat] and this was on there last
time, but the EPC, that energy performance contract remains ready to go. Uh, we we just want to tag that on to um the capital project vote for the hopes of an additional 10% in aid on that project. >> Josh, can you explain 10% of the 25 million, 10%? >> Okay. >> Is is that is that what you're asking? >> Yeah. 10% is >> Yep. Thank you. Uh so the EBC the energy performance contract um that's the that's the project where you know they go through and try to make the building more energy efficient. Uh basically, uh if the board approves it, which the board did, it was it was a while ago now, about a year ago, April, a year ago. Um then whatever the maximum aid is, so that 90.1% the board can approve
it with the 90.1% minus 10%, so 80.1% aid, which is still a reasonable amount of aid. So we could have gone ahead like, you know, right away with that project at the 80.1%. We're holding off because if we do it at the same time as a capital project, a lot of things are going to be torn apart at the same time and ideally save some costs uh there. Uh but if we vote, we can get that additional 10% to bring us back up to the 90.1% on that. So regardless, it's it is aided at a substantial level. Um but that extra 10% would be nice. It's certainly money we're leaving on the table if we don't if we don't. Are there any other questions for Dr. Meyer? Well, >> I I have a couple pictures,
just a couple updates here. Uh, so you've seen these um with the additional classrooms. The architect uh gave a shot as his his first rendering of the exterior of the building. Uh again, these are absolutely uh you know, the very beginning first pictures here. You know, if you're like, I hate the color, I'm voting no on that. But the the color is, you know, yet to be determined. The materials are yet to be determined. All of that is yet to be determined. Just an initial uh what this could look like from the outside. Uh so this would be actually let me go back to this one right here. So the the the kind of the the corner I get my mouse there. This corner right about here. here if you can see that kind of
the end of where our um uh sixth grade uh Eric Lor's room and um Jack Rice right that's that yeah that group right there uh the end of that so this is what you're going to see first kind of that would be entrance right at the bottom left of of this diagram right here so that that's that bottom left entrance there okay and just keep in mind that flag is a good reference point as you see the next picture here it's a little further down to the right kind of that in the middle. You see the flag over to the left now. So, we're kind of making our way across the building here. And then this is the kind of that far corner that sort of line up. You can see the gym, the current
gym there. Uh and you can see the flag pole now way down to the left there. So, just some initial renderings there. Nothing um you know nothing uh confirmed yet, but he got some exterior photos and wanted to show them. So that's what we got. >> And that will be parking where the [laughter] parking. >> So let me maybe this one might be better. So if you So to the right of that pink area, there's parking there to uh the bottom of the page from the the thing that would be like a bus loop there. I I to be honest with you, I don't know if there's room for additional parking spaces there um or not, but I know there's definitely uh room, you know, kind of over over in this area and there might
be room out front, but I know that that's that there's going to be a facility, >> right? And and that that's what I'm I'm saying that I think the parking is going to be over over on that. >> If you show the last you can see in the back. >> Yeah. Like so yeah kind of over here is all parking. And what I'm saying is I I don't know like this bus loop I can't I mean I don't know if it's just the bus loop or if there's room to park anywhere there. And I don't think that we see anything on the other side like like kind of this area in front of the grass. I don't know what that looks like either. Um so again initial renderings all questions that that we can ask
and so for the next time I can have answers to all those uh questions. >> Okay. That's the update. >> Does anyone else have any questions for Dr. Meyer? >> Okay. Thank you, Dr. Meyer. Board discussion. Old business. Uh the youth commission backs stop was discussed at the last meeting. Uh Dr. My you were going to check in to the legality of us transferring that old unused back stop to the youth commission. >> Yes. So the back stop uh does not so we can absolutely do that. Uh I guess I'll leave with that that we can absolutely do that. Um it uh doesn't have enough value where it requires a board vote. But um which is why we put it here on the agenda. So I think just you know general consensus from the board
if that's what they want to do. Um, I think now's a good time to talk about that if you're in support or not. >> So, is everyone in agreement? Yeah. [laughter] >> All right. So, let it be part of the minutes that it is agreed upon by all of the board members to go ahead and page. You will let the commission >> and because Mr. Rice is here, can you have whomever reach out directly to Mr. and and work work on uh getting that in the hands of the position. Thank you. >> Is next week too soon? [laughter] >> I prefer not to do it next Saturday. >> No, during the >> She met Monday. [laughter] >> Tomorrow. >> Okay. Well, good. That worked out well then. Thank you very much. Uh letter B, new
business committee updates. Um first policy committee. Paul Jason are dead. Would one of you like to provide us with an update? >> We didn't meet. >> Oh, you haven't met. Okay. No meetings. B. Joint study. Mr. Broadick, would you like to provide us? >> We didn't meet this today. >> We didn't meet today. We didn't meet today either. Okay. >> C. Youth commission update. We did meet on Monday. >> Um and uh we're actually starting the soccer conversation already. Um, baseball and softball are ending fairly soon. Softball's playing outside right now. Um, that's pretty much it and we're gearing up for the summer program. Very good. All right. Any questions for Paige and we'll continue on then uh for B number two, protocol for the recognition of service. Um, as I stated earlier, we would
like to establish a protocol to follow for the future. um for recognition of our employees, their service to the district. [laughter] We did include the 25 um retirees this year because we did not recognize them last year and felt that we really should and and needed to do that. But um anyone have any recommendations as to what protocol we should use for the future? Any recommendations? Should we base it on school year or fiscal year? >> School year. >> So the July 1st to the June 30th. >> Yeah. >> Okay. So if somebody retires then in August, then you don't want to recognize them that year if they're not coming back for the following September. You see what I'm saying? >> I mean, statistically, how often does that happen? I don't know. It does. Well,
it does happen. It does happen this year. Yeah, it does. It does happen. >> I think if you missed one, you remember >> Exactly. That's why I want to make sure that we're What about the locator for the next meeting? Yeah, I think that would be >> as they were to recognize them individually rather than as a group. >> Well, and in June typically we would have a group, >> you know. Okay. So, we want to recognize them. We want to go with the school year then and then if somebody retires in August or September, then they're included in the following year. Is that a or no? >> You meant like if >> they we recognize them if they retire in August, we recognize them in September. >> Oh, so individually and then all the
ones in June will be done together with June. >> There's usually a group of >> All right. So maybe what we could do is say that the protocol would be recognize them in June for the school year for that school year and then if anyone retires during the summer months they would be recognized during the September meeting. Is that is that what you're saying? >> We're saying every month. If somebody retired every month then be recognized for month. So like Mike retired in December, we would recognize him at the January meeting and then we would just historically we have more people that retire in June. So there would be more people recognizing in June. >> Okay. >> So the month following the month of retirement than we would >> less chance of forget, >> right?
Then we we make sure we get everybody when it happens. Not to bel the month of their retirement in case they >> don't want to come back in case they go on a trip as soon as they retire. >> So how do you want to work with them? The month of retirement >> the month of the retirement date. >> Yep. >> Daily. >> Okay. And if they do it after that Tom Sarah >> I do think there's something nice about having it as a group though too you know like they're all retiring together >> yeah I think as a group >> we can do whatever we're doing why don't we do it in June for the school year anyone who retires during the school year >> or the summer we can lost the summer people
in there too. Yeah, the court >> July July 1st to June 30th. >> July 1st to >> September 1st 91. >> Just say it's September 1st. >> 91 to 8:30. >> Okay. >> September 1st. >> Okay. >> Yep. >> Yeah, that makes sense. That makes sense. >> Okay. Does everyone agree with that? >> Yes. that our protocol would be to recognize them starting their service if they retired in September to August. >> August 31st. >> Yep. >> Okay. >> All right. Moving right along then. >> Yeah. Um, do we need to have a formal vote on that, Mrs. or just agree just a business. All right, we'll move on to number nine, public comment. Our agenda offers two public comment sections. Opinions, ideas, and concerns that are offered by the public will be considered and
taken into under advising. We have set aside a 15minute period giving the audience time to share their thoughts with us. Please raise your hand to be acknowledged by the board president. When called upon, please identify yourself and give your ad address, limiting your comments to three minutes. Um, is there anyone who would like to make a public comment? Anyone? >> Okay. Too hot to talk to, right? All right. Let's move on to number 10, executive session. Specifically, the board anticipates entering into executive session for the following reasons. A number six, to discuss the medical, financial, credit, or employment history of a particular person or persons. Do I have a motion to enter into executive session to discuss item 6A? Motion. >> Thank you, Paige. Second. A second. Thank you, Deb. Any discussion? >> So, I
wasn't I um I don't have anything for this one that came in until the second meeting. I think we do. >> I think we do. >> All in favor? >> I opposed abstensions. Motion passes. We anticipate being back probably in approximately 30 minutes. I'm going to try to limit it to 30 minutes. Okay. Do I have a motion to reconvene into regular session? >> Thank you. And a second. >> I'll second. >> Thank you, Deb. All in favor? [laughter] >> I opposed. >> Any extensions? Motion passes to reconvene into regular session. Exeicio student school board member report. As always, it's our pleasure to have Satie Burgess, our student school board member, here with us tonight uh to provide a report on behalf of the student body. Satie, take it away, please. Thank you. Um it's
been a very busy year. We've had a lot of incredible opportunities, um sports highlights, a couple students reached their career milestones, which is very exciting. Um and we got a lot of incredible awards. Um, flag football was a success which is nice and people were very happy to have another option. Um, we've had some incredible field trips. The seniors have their senior trip which we talked about. Um, and it's made the rest of the school excited for their senior trips. Um, the sixth graders just got back from their Boston trip. Um, they spent all year fundraising and it sounds like it was an incredible opportunity. Um, and we've had two Montreal trips for high school French students, which are incredible. So exciting. Um, and then we've had a lot of we've had three dances, um,
and a bunch of fundraisers for bummer sale of course. Um, and also craft fairs. Um, and then Olive and Andrew, city council members are here to present the next slide with the rest of the end of year. Um we had uh the student council earlier in the year, we decided to instead have uh instead of assembly at the end of the quarter, we had um like a cultural assembly. And so we had a BMX biker, a magic show, and uh Tao drumming, which were all really cool. And um a lot of times like during presentations there's a lot of board faces, but I don't think I saw a lot many. There's like one or two, but very few board faces. Um, we also had a really interesting career fair with uh people from our community
and they came in and uh they talked about their job and what it was like and how they got there which is interesting. Uh, which instead of just like reading about a job, you get to like talk to someone. >> Oh, and then finally for model I believe there was five events this year that students in high school got to participate in. some unlimited starting was uh Deacon Town Moduan then the newest mod nation this year which was Champagne Valley Moduan which we were deemed as best delegation for that and then we have Harvard modu in January then in March there's North Country modu and then we have our normal inaugural bucket valley module for in school students um it's a really good important factor for all students of our school and I believe there
was talk possibly looking into doing a modu and Harvard maybe like I think there's one of them up at um one of the colleges up in Canada and there's also a couple out by Syracuse they're that they were looking into for the next couple years >> thank you very much and thank you also Satie um for another interesting report we'd like to take this opportunity to thank you and recognize your role this year as the first ex official student school board member. You've done an excellent job not only representing the student body but also fulfilling your role as a student board member. We're very thankful for your valuable contributions, making us aware of the students perspective regarding pertinent issues and we're very proud of you and hope that this experience will lead you maybe someday
to becoming a board member yourself. So please come forward Satie to accept a certificate of recognition for your outstanding service to Satie Burgess by the Buck Valley Board of Education in recognition of her valuable contributions as an exeicio student school board member. Okay, moving right along. Item number 12, the approval of the agenda and minutes. Uh, do I have a motion to approve uh item 12 A and B plus the addendum which includes the addition of 8B 2 and 16 O. Do I have a motion? A motion. Thank you, Paige. Second. >> Call. Thank you. Is there any discussion? >> Okay. Um, all in favor? >> I opposed abstensions. Motion to amend the agenda. It has been approved. Okay. On [clears throat] to financial. Do I have a motion to approve 13A1 through 4? >>
A motion. >> Thank you, Deb. Second. I'll second. >> Thank you, Sarah. Um, are there is there any discussion on any of these items? All in favor? >> I opposed abstensions. Motion 13A 1 through 4 have been approved. Number 14, CSE, CPSSE, and 504 recommendations. A, accept and approve the Committee on Preschool Special Education, Committee on Special Education, and Committee on 504 Plan Recommendations as presented. Do I have a motion to accept the CSE, CPSE, and 504 recommendations as presented in 14A? Motion. >> Thank you, Paige. Second. I'll second. Thank you, Dev. Any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. Abstensions. Motion 14A is approved. Number 15, action item consent agenda. Okay. Do I have a motion to approve items 15A through K? >> Make a motion. >> Thank you, Tom. Second. >> Second. >>
Thank you, Paige. Is there any discussion? >> Yes, I have a question about G all the combining of teams. Do the parents have to transport or are we helping at all with all the Am I in the wrong place? >> You're right. Okay. >> Do so. Uh I think the answer is it depends. >> Yeah. I you always want transport, but that doesn't always need. >> And just to be sure, the cross country swimming and track and field are there and bowling is there. Baseball is is coming to us or we wouldn't know until we get there. >> That that is my >> Okay. Yeah, >> but I I also think it's going to depend on who signs up, right? >> Dr. My I do have a question um regarding 15 I um I had
asked you about this previously, the closing of the I said that correctly account to ensure we don't have any pending cases against us. Did you look into that? >> I did. Uh we do not have any. >> We do not. Okay. So there aren't any that are carrying over from this town the FCS. >> That is correct. >> We have so if it were to stay current we would have to be served every year and we have not been served and we only keep tax on the books for four years. After four years it falls off. But by closing this later in the agenda, it's part of that money is being moved to a reserve where if something were to come up, we can then move it out of that reserve into a different one.
Yeah. It's not It doesn't just disappear. >> Yeah. >> All right. Good. Okay. Um, do I have a motion to approve items and 15 A through K? >> Oh, we did. We did that. All in favor? >> I opposed. Abstensions. Item 15 A through K is accepted. Number 16, personnel consent agenda. Do I have a motion to approve items in 16A through N1 with the amended um the addendum? Is that the amendment? Yes. With the addendum added on. Yes. >> Okay. Do I have a motion? >> A motion. Okay. Thank you, Jason. Second. >> Thank you, Paul. Is there any discussion on any of these? >> All in favor? Sorry, Josh. Carrie Mer is also a substitute bus driver. Am I correct? I think she was a couple years ago. >> Heather. Why do I
get some of them mixed up? It's Heather Olsson. Yeah. >> Thank you. Karen can drive bus. >> Yeah. >> Oh, any one of them. Okay. >> All right. All in favor? >> I opposed. Any abstensions? Items 16A through N1 as amended are accepted. Do I now have a motion to motion. All right. Number 17, policy. We have no policies at this time. Number 18, end of the year administrator director report. First, we have Mountain View principal. Mrs. Elaine Dixon Cross. Is that okay? >> Okay. >> Sure. >> Okay. Now, we have Mr. Lee Pil. >> Yeah. Hello everybody. >> Hello. >> So the first slide talks about our attendance at the Lake View campus this school year. Our average daily attendance rate is just under 95%. And the green arrow is pointing something which I
think is worth bragging about that. Our chronic absenteeism number is just under 8%. So we have 12 students that are identified as chronically absent. And the season state average is around 30%. So we are significantly below that that uh state average. and our three-year average daily attendance continues to improve year-over-year. So, not only are we up above that this year, but our three-year attendance is better this year than it was last year, the state average. Uh, next slide. Uh, we're using I Ready reading as a way to to demonstrate success in reading this year. So you'll see on the left part of the slide that I Ready tells us that we should expect 100% median growth for the median student and each of our grade levels met that growth. Kindergarten is at 66% because they
only take the diagnostic twice. All grade levels met their expected growth for the year. On the right side, it shows the movement from bands. So you'll see 58% of our students are at or above grade level in reading and we started the school year with 24% at or above grade level. So that is uh also very great. That's that's exciting. Next slide. In math on the left side you'll see that we did not meet the expected growth for uh third, fourth, and fifth grade. However, on the right side, you'll see that 54% of our students are at or above grade level. And that's an increase from 11% and also worth noting that our students a grade or more below grade level went from 26% to 9%. Also, I think that is incredible. I think this
continues to be a focus going forward, both math and um and reading. And we've already started the process of a curriculum review next year. Um, so, so this is still a work in progress, but I think these numbers are are great. Really, really happy with these numbers. And the next slide. So, uh, we at the Lake View campus do trimester surveys of families to get feedback. And I heard loud and clear at the end of last school year that families wanted more events at the Lake View campus where they could be invited into the campus for events. So, these are just a brief list of some of the events that we had at campus this school year. I would like to highlight that almost all of them are free and a lot of them are
grant-f funded and uh this this was primarily driven by feedback from families. Uh couple of important things to highlight here are the monthly PBIS assemblies and the arts and education assemblies. We brought in different uh speakers and events at the campus and I think those assemblies have been really positive in promoting our climate culture of our building. And um I'll invite Miss Dixon Cross up. The next slide is a picture is a collage of pictures with that while she comes up. Thank you. >> Can I just make a suggestion that when you have those events, is there any way that you could let the board know like for example the elementary concert that Mrs. Mero had? I had looked on the school calendar and it was not on the school calendar. >> Okay. So I
have no idea. I had intended to attend try to attend. Sure. But I have no idea when I can make sure they all have school tool. I mean it's fine for parents because they have school but other people in the community don't have that. >> Yep. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Or did we give this calendar access to the board or do they have that? >> District calendar is on our website. Oh, so that should have been activity calendar. It's um just like the districtwide events calendar on the website. Yes, I looked there and it was not the elementary concert was not listed on there. I didn't know. So I I just didn't know if you had access to that. Um okay, so my slides are very similar. So our average daily attendance and our
three-year average have increased and that looks great. Um [clears throat] but we still have 20% of our students that are chronically absent. So that's uh definitely one of our goals that we need to keep working on. And um this honestly is also worse when you look at our class byclass attendance for um students that either come in late or sign out early. So it's definitely going to remain remain on our district to try to improve that. But um as Mr. Kyl and I were discussing many principles would be really excited about that number to have 93%. But you know we know we're there every day in the trenches and we know what we need to do to improve. So the next slide is our I Ready meeting. Um we do still have some students taking
this. Our Ready dates are later and this board meeting was a little earlier. So this isn't 100% of our students that need to take it almost 100%. But we also have shown growth. Um in eighth grade we have more improvement to do to get to that 100% growth. But if you look over again on those slides in green we have have 45% of our students have shown growth. So we are making progress but again it maintain we remain having that on our goals. We added the um ELA lab to help improve those and we'll keep that in next year's schedule. And then for math, we have a new curriculum this year and 6 through 12 EMAT. Um again, we fell short in sixth grade, but that did also increase from 17% to 32%. So while
it wasn't 100% growth, we still showed growth. Again, that um ELA and math remain on our district goals for next year. Um so the next slide has a list of um events that all six through 12th graders were invited to be a part of and that is just a list of the events but if you um go to the next slide it's pictures of it and I'll just talk about them briefly. Um at the beginning of the school year we have homecoming and spirit weeks where students enjoy bonfire soccer games, pep rallies, hall decorating and um classroom floats. We had our first holiday community dinner this December which we fed 69 people um the night of our music concert. We hope to do that annually and you know increase participation. We had a big cafeteria
to fill anyone fill. We had the quarterly PBIS assemblies that were paired with the quarterly arts and education assemblies which the student council presented on and um for the high school portion of that they requested those assemblies um and they spoke great about the presenters that were there and I think there's an awesome picture down on the bottom of the students participating in a Tao drumming session. So that ended up being very enjoyable. Uh we still continue to have our quarterly outbound experiences that um a committee decided in 2019 that that was an important part of our students education. So that's hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, anything to make them love the community they live in and we hope to get them engaged in college career and come back and do that here in our
community. And then deadly days are an important part of our um our fabric of who we are. The leadership and teamwork ropes courses that they we they're just tremendous partners with us. So we continue to do those. And then each student had a each class either went on a college visit or a career visit whether that was to Boston College CVT manufacturing day. Um we continue to make that a priority for all of our students. And then when or they may not have all gone, but they were invited to though, so they could sign up for that. Um, winter solstice happens every year. That's also an important part of who we are where every student gets a note and we have a fun day of activities um to celebrate winter solstice and the holidays. And
then our field day happens annually and that is on Tuesday. And that will be our final quarterly assembly and award. And that's us in a nutshell. Thank you very much. >> Thank you, Mr. Tyler. And this is Gibson Cross. [laughter] >> Okay. Then we have Mr. Stra. >> Hello and welcome. Uh so this is sort of a year in review from the student support services department. Got some great news. Uh so I was sitting in my regional chairperson's meeting. uh two weeks ago or so with all the other uh chairpersons from our area and um we received simultaneously our idea or idea determination scores. Um and you know people were looking around on the product and they're like oh yeah we you know we can do this we can do this and um I was
I'm very happy to say that due to hard work from many people in this room uh as well as uh you know teachers um aids clerical uh we have and I don't want to understate this because the title of it is not very exciting but we have earned the title meets requirements. >> [laughter] >> we meet requirements and this isn't actually the highest designation available. Um they don't say anything better than that when when you are the best you are meeting requirements. So uh yeah I'm very proud of this. Uh some highlights of this are that overall we have a 90.91% um we have 100% compliance. uh that is a huge piece of our data reporting that goes well beyond just my scope but um into business and and uh many of the tasks that
Dr. Mike does as well. Um and yeah and so next slide some accomplishments of the department this year. Um we've all worked very hard and tirelessly um to to build where we are now and I think our department's in a great place. Um when we take a look at the compliance annual reviews, annual reviews have been completed on time before June and I believe this is the first time that's happened in quite a while. Um and so thank you to everybody who has helped with that uh scheduling and showing up and to parents who didn't cancel. Um appreciate that. We have 100% compliance across all active uh IEPs. Um and our SP8 uh indicator or SP indicator 8 survey process which is the parent uh and family input survey has been completed and we are
at uh 111.4% reporting. So we are good to go there. Uh in terms of systems and infrastructure, we've rebuilt and documented our workflows and our processes um across both buildings. Um our annual review schedule was released in December. Uh and we implemented as a piece of family engagement uh family input surveys in the first week of January. So that's sort of just like touching base with families before we began the annual review process. Key pieces here. Um yeah, we developed a student support services guide for families and teachers. Um and sort of built communication protocols that we standardized districtwide, which is really great. Um in the uh professional development front um we had a science of reading professional development for K2 teachers. Um and we did some very important work in our MTSS PLC uh
which was part of our districtwide work this year. Um, I also worked with a team who did an MTSS professional development throughout the year. And I think we have a lot of great ideas that we have brought back to district to be implemented. Um, and something pretty cool that I I'm very proud of is uh TA [clears throat] Academy. So throughout the year um you know I sent out a few surveys and our TAs aids our pair professionals uh were saying that they were looking for you know more specific um professional development for them and a way to uh help onboard new people that way they could feel like when they're starting they uh had some sort of ground to stand on and didn't have to figure it out on the job. So we developed
uh a new TA onboarding packet um and have implemented a framework um that will support them in ongoing professional development for next year. Um and departmentwide we have had regular department meetings monthly. Uh these have been essential for our continued growth and collaboration and um getting everybody in each building on the same page. And so, thank you to all who have given us subs to make that time happen. I appreciate it a lot. Um, on the Medicaid and Cash Money front, we're looking great. We fully restored Medicaid this year and we are good to go. Resertified to go for the 26 27th school year uh in our two-year development plan. Phase one is complete. Phase two is on the horizon. So, that's looking forward. Thank you and uh have a great night. >> Thank you.
First of all, Mr. Stra, um we want to express our sadness regarding your departure and we want to also thank you for your many many efforts this year to get our special education department back on track. Okay. um your your hard work and dedication have certainly shown and we appreciate all of your efforts and the efforts that the department the special department have put in to make that happen and make it a reality. So thank you very much and good luck to you. >> All right, next we have the director of facilities, Mr. Rice. >> Hello. Good evening. >> Just as last time, I broke this down into three separate categories. Nobody has to turn around. I have notes slides. [laughter] >> I wanted to save everybody the next strain at this phase of the
evening. So, we'll start with the Mountain View campus. Spring cleanup was completed. I thought pretty early. The campus was break, litter was removed, the lawns were groomed. Also, during the spring cleanup time, they came and did that really cool uh wrap in the cafeteria. if you haven't seen it. I like the way it looks. I think it looks way better than the paint job we could give. Flag football went over as a success. I had no clue how to do a flag football field. I learned. I think it looked okay. The girls promised they're going to give me a home win next year. We didn't get one this year. Summer plans. We're going to repolure the brand new auditorium floor. Also, it's part of the summer, but it won't happen until uh just before the
Thanksgiving break. do the basketball court as we do every year. We'll be updating the Antel fire suppression system in the cafeteria. We're going to be replacing carpets in different various spaces. We're going to fill potholes, reseal the parking lot at Mountain View, and then of course restripe it. The al cove on the bus garage, it has been a sore spot and ugly, is going to be repaired this summer. And then we're just going to do general deep cleaning and repairs of all school spaces, classrooms, offices, hallways, etc. Any questions about Mountain View? >> Where does the flag football team be played >> in the uh field closest to the road? This was a particular wet spring, so we had to find a spot where people could park, but not on the field. >> And uh
since Dudley wasn't up and running yet, it took a little extra running around like they didn't have their porticons there. And people have to have a place to go. And >> so we worked it out and next year they're going to win. It's going to happen. Anybody else? All right. Lake view spring cleanup also was completed. The campus's rake litter was removed. The laundry room, the parking lot here was swept and restriped. The chicken coupe should be here this weekend. Oh boy. The Amish were a little bit slow, but they had other plans. And then uh moving on to summer plans. Maintenance of all the interior doors and inspection is going to be taken care of. We had some doors that was sticky here. We're going to replace the septic grinder pumps and the rails
they ride on here in this building. Uh we had one malfunction and PM Larry reported that the rails that the pumps ride up and down on were beyond repair. So we have to fix that. Then we're going to deep clean all the school spaces, classrooms, hallways, etc. We're going to paint various things. Questions related. Yeah. What measures are you taking to ensure that we're in compliance with that relatively new education law 409N that took uh into effect on uh September 1st of 2025 regulating the temperatures in the classrooms? Um do the classrooms now have any air conditioning? >> So if you walk around the classrooms here through Dr. Myers quick went and sending me up to Clinton Community College. We got like eight or nine portable air conditioners up there. We fixed the broken parts.
Almost every single classroom space has an air conditioner now in both buildings. >> Both buildings. >> In both buildings. There's a few rooms that don't, but that laws for educational spaces. So, we basically made anybody that's not in educational space or secretaries or people that work all summer may suffer until the end of school. Once school is over, we're going to move the air conditioners out of the empty classrooms and put them in the ed non-educational spaces. >> Okay. So, all all the kids have are going to be okay. >> I don't want to say 100% have air conditioners. Maybe there's one room there's a few teachers like I know one particular teacher at Mountain View was like I'm always cold. I don't want an air conditioner. Don't put one in. So, we didn't. But
the law states at 82 degrees we have to take preventative measures. So preventive measures can be turning on fans and opening windows which we have. Every classroom has a fan. Every classroom has windows that work. And then at 88 degrees they have to go to another space >> at Elizabeth Town. We have the outdoor classroom. So far we haven't hit the 88 degree marker. We measure that with your standard temperature gun. Uh >> you haven't reached that here at Lake. If we have, it's been mitigated by windows and air conditioners. We haven't had to close any classrooms yet. I mean, today was a warm day, but it's not bad in here right now. >> I'm not even sweating. >> Cool as a cucumber. >> All right. Any other questions from Mr. Rice? >> Oh, we're
we're not at district wide yet. >> Yeah. >> Three parts. >> All right. So, districtwide, since the voters have approved, we'll be purchasing yet another new truck, which seems excessive because we just got one last year, but all of the other things will be sold on Auctions International. So, a pickup, a van, and uh the old John Deere tractor from the Mountain View campus will be replaced. If you'll notice, we're short on school buses at this building because Auctions International sold our last three school buses and bus number 84 left today. Uh, one of them purchaser was from Honduras. I don't know how he got our school bus to Honduras, but that's where his check came from. And, uh, the other two went to Texas. The bus number 84, the guy got off the Amtrak
today at 245 and off in bus number 84 to head back to Texas. Good for him. And we currently have a whole bunch of summer cleaners. I put this on here before I read the minutes. You guys already approved. You hired my summer cleaners, which are students and a former student, so I don't have to talk about them. The annual fire inspection was just completed last month in May. We had a few minor violations, but every violation was fixed within 48 hours. So, we've got a certificate of occupancy for next year. And our spring requirements for fire drills and lockdowns have all been completed. So, at the end of our last fire drill at Mountain Deal, we said, "If we hear it again this year, >> more serious." >> That's it. Now, any questions? Hopefully,
we'll be having omelets here on Monday. I'm not going to cook them. Also, if you walk around this campus, I think it looks better than it has in years. A lot of that is Sasha, who's not anything to do with me. She's the I think her official title is cook assistant, but she's also a heck of a gardener. We brought the unused greenhouse from the other campus over here. She's got it full of stuff. The circle and the bus loop looks amazing. and she's just doing a really good guard garden. I couldn't do it. So, I grow weeds, thistles. >> All right. Thank you. Thank you, Mr. Rice. We appreciate it. >> Number 19, superintendent's update. Dr. Meyer, you are on. >> Okay. Uh, Grants, Lee, you want to speak to Grant real quick? >>
Oh, yeah. So, the final final allocations have not yet been released, but the applications are due in July. So, as soon as they're released, we have to work in the grants. So, >> um and extended school day, we're finishing up our final weeks of programming and you know, have no reason. >> Thank you. >> What did we hear last time about? I feel like it was like June 28th because we whipped together some summer programming, but um >> we applied a little earlier, >> but we applied it one month early. >> So, is there no hope for summer programming this year? No, I think like we have experience. We know how to do it. So, I think if we hear in July, we would do something in August. We'll try to do stuff at the
end of July in August, >> but we just need to get somebody. I did just Google some things like moving. How do we find out? We don't have >> We have staff that are interested. >> Yeah. >> Like the capacity is there. >> Okay. And community interested in >> Okay. So this year we have four goals. Our first goal has been and like to remain have it be about our previous initiatives to help keep track of those and uh ensure that we are continuing uh to move forward with work from previous years. Our second goal is about ELA and math performance. Third goal is about our facilities project and the fourth goal was about our staff support and onboarding procedure. Uh so um goal one uh so I know Mr. Strat is involved in this
goal and in a minute I'm going to ask you if there's anything you want to add to this but uh just kind of looking at the highlights here we have four key results um and each of those uh have been completed throughout the year. Uh Mr. Stra you want to add to that? Uh just very briefly, I think the key thing that I found was um after I gave the staff survey uh and compared it to our activity goals for this year, the things that we were doing were aligned with what the staff were appreciative of us doing. Uh so we're doing the right work. Um and uh there's still value to to our current set of goals. So I think that's like a really great thing to hear. >> Great. Thank you. Uh goal
two. Uh so also I will turn this over to principles in a minute. I'm going to comment on this but again goal two about ELA and math performance. Um [clears throat] we uh did hit uh these targets with the exception of um all the ready testing and as Mr. Sakra mentioned in her presentation earlier there's still a handful of students that haven't quite finished but they will be finished before the end of the school year. Uh so once they finish then we can mark that one off as done. Um anything that everyone had to for that? >> Um just I mean I think I already said it that they need to remain on there so that we can continue improvement and that we're adding labs and additional time for ELA and the curriculum um and
EMAC seems like it's showing progress for us. Uh but I'm excited to see what our state tests and agency show we don't have that >> and that's why that first one is on track because we don't have results for state tests until the fall so we can't mark that as >> uh third goal facilities again you are uh pretty updated on this um so the two pieces here that I've delayed where we are you know looking to um re-engage uh with the facilities committee um and to develop and launch public communications. We don't quite have we're not ready for that yet. We still need some information before we can do that. But everything else uh has hit and I'm hoping I'm very hopeful that by the uh by the end of the summer, early fall,
we can um check those boxes again. [clears throat] Uh goal four uh goal four um is about improving our hiring and onboarding process and supporting our new staff. Uh, one of the reasons that that we talked about this is that we knew that depending on what point in the year that employees were hired, they had different experiences. you know, if they were hired um you know, say like appointed at a June board meeting and we're planning on them arriving and you know, we got them all squared away over the summer and they showed up on opening day. They had a very different experience than the person who was hired for an unexpected uh vacancy in November where they came in the door, we ple the keys and said good luck uh you know, see you
in see you in June. So um we we really wanted to make an effort to ensure that everyone was getting the same experience and I know that uh Bridget worked very hard on this initiative as well. Um making sure you know I'm really coordinating everything from our getting keys to our uh grounds [clears throat] through um making sure the room is set up with the business office uh make sure that you know all those pieces are in place with the tech department. Uh so um I I think we're we're in a really good place as far as um hiring and onboarding goes. Um and we will continue uh to make improvements here, but I think we're we're at least at a good baseline now uh moving forward. So uh those are our goals for this
year. Uh before I move on to next year's goals, any questions or comments there? >> Okay. Uh so these the the goals for next year um so we we have some goals that we've been uh talking about uh with the board the last couple meetings. So, as a reminder, um, usually the way this works is with all of our committees, u, committees like shared decision-making, like joint study, um, and you know, through faculty meetings and things like that, uh, we talk about, um, what we make the assumption that we're going to hit all of our current goals. And if we do that, what do we want to focus on next? Okay, so that's uh that's kind of the premise that we work with there. Um so keeping goal one the same with where we're making
sure that we keep our uh previous initiatives uh intact. Um we're going to of course keep our facilities on here as a goal. Uh and goal three um we're we're looking at portrait of a graduate. Uh so portal graduate uh you know [clears throat] um as a reminder this is a new initiative in New York State uh where we have um different areas where we need to align our curriculum to those areas. Uh look for ways to improve and essentially trying to build um uh a a system where our graduates are prepared uh for whatever comes next for them. Um we have done a lot of committee work with this. Our faculties are um familiar but we barely scratch the surface with the faculty as a whole. So really is a huge focus for next
year. Uh just about all of our PE time will be dedicated to for the graduate and aligning what we're doing um with with that new initiative. Um in goal four looking at um uh wellness and attendance. Um you know the whole idea of promoting well-being for both students and staff. Um and part of that is being here being here to uh to experience that. So um we kind of tied those two together and this is what we're looking uh at for next year. So um in a moment I'll give you some time if you have any questions about this. But uh what it looks like from here is then at the reorg meeting I would request that the board officially adopts these as the goals for next year and then over the course of the
summer the uh administrators would work on what we call the key results and I'll back up. So these for example you can see the key results the goal four the key results for goal three. So, we'll we'll turn these goals into actual actual things that we need to do um within the district to achieve those for coming year. Uh that being said, any uh any questions about the 2627 pools uh ahead of the reordering stay out of >> uh so we uh there have been years that that we've done that as part of the goals that really one of our I'm going to say it was maybe the first year maybe the second year one of our goals was communication and we really totally totally changed the way that we were communicating um with the
public based on based on their feedback. Uh so I would say depending on the goal, we've definitely done out and I believe that all this is gearing up toward what I envision a a um year 10, right? So we're in um this so confidently about say year eight right now and questionable. So, year eight, >> year seven. >> Definitely year seven. [laughter] >> So, year seven. So, we're gearing up for a uh year 10 where I would do a a very large scale um uh stakeholder uh um you know, where we're talking about all our stakeholder groups getting all sorts of of input um from really from everyone. resident opinion that anything uh and then trying to uh help to uh steer the direction for the next 10 years uh for for the district. That's
what I think we're leaving. That was a really answer to yes, we do need feedback for some goals. >> You still have a shared decision making. >> Yep. Uh yeah, we do have shared decision- making. Uh we have a handful of teachers and our administrators that are on that and uh we so both joint study and chair decision- making committee this year really looked at corporate graduate quite a bit but really from two very different angles uh and we had productive conversations but yeah it's a it's a big deal >> could I suggest maybe be a part of that as well >> um so >> yeah so we can talk about that Uh, okay. Uh, >> as far as district goals, I So, I like I like the three new ones this year. Um, looking
at them, I I don't I don't see I don't see anything that that is really focused on student performance. You know, of course, this past school year, we had a couple really good student performance-based goals and sustaining those is built into this. So, so maybe we're good there. But also, it's possible portrait of graduates is is kind of wraps wraps that and and it's going to lead to better student performance and and and overall preparedness for the world outside. >> Yeah. So, I think you're right on both kinds. So, we had a an explicit ELA and math goal. I'm gonna say including this year was it the last three years we had explicit healing in that pool. Uh and so we're not we're not saying okay done right you know we we absolutely need to
continue doing that work and I originally gave very similar reports next year uh you know in in the same style um but I think we're uh going to move that um more into go one as that's kind of part of our normal practice now but but yeah what we absolutely are looking for is to the port of graduate I think you're right is um that's going to It may not seem like it on day one of conversation, but that is so student centered. You know, the the first conversations are going to feel like it's um like they're about the teacher and the curriculum, and that's where the first conversations need to start, but very quickly we'll get to, you know, the the individual student, >> right? And then and then I guess my my other
comment is probably similar to that because last year we had a goal or this school year we had we have a goal for recruiting and retention and and we've discussed you know that's you know our vision as a district is to be the best rural school district in New York State. So we need we need the best sure >> the best educators and staff in the district as well. Um, do we need to consider something something new for this year? I'm asking. I don't have any. >> So, our our retention um our retention was pretty good. Uh, and can you help me out here? There's that the report that we get. What is the report that we get um where say fiscal stress? >> Yeah, thank you. The the fiscal stress report. Yeah. Um, one
of those categories is recruitment and retention. based on your level of retention, um, you get certain points. We were in the lowest category this year for the first time in in a while. That could be an anomaly, but we we were there this this past year. Um, I I love Mr. abstracts, onboarding plan, a packet, the the whole support package that goes with, >> you know, how we how we support our our staff and teachers and TAs in that case. >> Yeah, this was so >> I know we're going to sustain that. >> Yeah. As far as this um this year's hiring process went, I've never had so many questions from the candidates about our onboarding process. I I I mean, but I know our our mentoring process and the support that they're giving during
that first year, which is great. I don't know if they're if they are talking about that in their graduate programs now or, you know, their education classes, but a lot of really, really good questions about that. And I think that we're in a really spot to answer that. If you remember, um, with the new teachers contract, our renting historically has been one year. Uh but we now there's um a uh you can use the word optional second year and that's optional. The teacher can request that themselves or the administrator can request that for the teacher. So we're I do think that we are doing a lot of support uh compared to um a lot of other schools in these things just because like for me this is probably one of the most single important things
we do as a >> goal goal number four you mentioned promote well-being on the well-being one you mentioned for the the students and and the staff can we can we include that in there so it doesn't get confused promote well-being and increase student attendance. So, it's not just student focused >> staff as well. >> Yes. >> And then I'm sure I'm sure as you guys build the the supporting objectives or goals, those objectives, it'll fall out. Anyways, >> thank you. >> Yeah, somebody disagreed. No, that's definitely the intent of >> I just like to know how much AI information we're going to have our teachers using in this in the curriculum in the class of course you go through the schoolboard books and they say use AI from teachers I talked to in the past
in other districts fail that they're losing their students if they use too much AI. >> Yeah. But so you know is it going to be a switch off or gonna be a stop or >> so anyone who was teaching or a student in you know the mid 90s I'm going to say uh um that that was a time when the internet right was really first available and similarly to where we are with AI right now is a little bit of the wild west right where there there were No, I mean there was no way to any kind of content blocking where you could access um I think a lot of times inadvertently uh inappropriate things um and but you could also access incredible things, right? And and uh there were similar conversations, you know, where
students were [clears throat] probably um using the internet more than they should have to do certain assignments, right? And but then you probably had students that were using it just the right amount, you know, and I think that's where we are with AI right now where, you know, in the in the in the early 90s, nobody knew what the right answer was for the internet. And it took us a long time to get there. Um, and to be honest with you, I'm not even sure that we're there now, but we have some standard practices. Uh, I think that that will eventually happen with AI, you know, where it it is just so wide right now and it seems like every time you turn around there's a new educational AI company and I mean, you can't
even keep track of of what they're doing. So there there has to be a place for AI in our system, but I don't think there's anyone that's going to confidently stand up and tell you exactly what that is right now. I certainly am not doing that. But I think that that uh it's important that teachers continue to use it so they can understand where the students are coming from. It is also I will say it is very easy um to tell uh you know if the student has just said do this assignment for me just like it was you know if they you know I remember you know uh you know students who would they have these like incredible definitions for words that they look on the internet >> yeah you know exactly so their
teachers are still they still have that skill set of knowing their students and knowing um uh some of that. But I agree with you that that's going to be the conversation. We we're not solving that problem next year. That's going to be a a decade long conversation about how that's going to look. And it's I mean it changes so fast, you know, and it's really amazing >> bandwidth. That's that is a great point. I agree completely with what Josh said. be a lot of bandwidth. I think we're going to have in portrait of a graduate, but that could be something really good for the the the the shared decision making team look at or or the joint study or I wonder too like if Boseies is investing time and effort in understanding, hey, what how
do we how do we teach our professionals about the use of AI, appropriate use? things. Are there any professional um opportunities for teachers regarding focus? >> So, Lee and I were just bringing up two things. One of our professional learning communities, this survey from January to May was an ad. Um Ash did the professional learning community and then we're offering a college credit in advance institute of technology for students design. >> Yeah. So there there's a lot to it, but I I have in having similar conversations with colleagues across the state, I tried to keep in mind, you know, AI when you talk about AI, that's like the equivalent where you're talking about the internet, right? Where um you know, one of the first things you remember learning how to use the internet was how
do you search for something, right? Well, now it's how do you write a prompt? And we were teaching people how to do that a couple years ago. We're so far beyond that where you couldn't um there there's so many nuances to it that we need these like specific courses that are laid out for students or for teachers or even, you know, for high school math teachers or elementary reading teachers or whatever. You know, it needs to be really specific. But yeah, I it's it's going to be exciting and I think that in 10 years when we look back, we'll talk about, you know, the million ways that we got it wrong and the handful ways we got it right, but reserves. Hey, you want to talk about some reserves, please? >> There have been no
changes since last month. Um, and then you approved the transfers tonight. You'll see we made a switch from last year. Last year at this time when we made the recommendation of how much to put in the reserves, we specified a certain amount. This year we put up two and that's just because it's it's too early. Um we get a lot of our bigger bills at the end of the month. So we don't want to say yes, we're absolutely putting $500,000 in and then next week I get a $200,000 bill. So that's why we we switch that. We make that determination right at the end of the year. Um and then the only other change, um we finally got the threshold on our capital project reserve through Nclass. If you have $6 million in an account,
uh you can switch to uh weekly. So right now we get daily deposits of our interest, but we we switch to weekly [laughter] now, which is an additional uh 0.25%. So July one that'll go into effect. So that reserve will gain significant amount [laughter] of interest. Um, and then it was not going to dip below six level of sort of state that we continue to gain more. Um, but really not a lot of changes. There's a prettier one. Uh so we did an exit poll for the uh our budget vote and um the question was uh knowing that the exemption could result in a slightly a slight increase for the remaining tax base, what is your level of support for the district considering a veteran's property tax exemption? So I'll point you to the red
and the blue. The blue is strongly support, the red is support. Um so those two alone that gives you about 70% um uh support or strongly support for uh for that exemption. Uh the orange um is neutral. So there's really so uh 7 89% um are either strongly support or support or neutral. Um so a small percentage of voters. So um again that this vote is simply information. Uh this these results are simply information. It is not a vote. Uh so um I think this is a good conversation to uh um you know further further discussion and you know at some point the board can make a decision and uh we can move from there. >> Um how many voters did we have? That's a lot of responses. 600 and oh that's including uh absolutely
um 624 I can give you >> Morris the responses like whoever Sher gets to do it every >> yeah she she really >> there was not a lot of people that got out of there without the survey >> and I mean that's what we wanted to know so that's good to so you suggest discuss this tonight or the next meeting. >> Uh I I discuss tonight discuss the next meeting. We can't vote on next. >> I I I think that the Yeah. Next. >> So you have a conversation if you wanted to continue to move forward then I think you need language from your attorney and exactly what need to be discussed at the public hearing. >> Okay. >> So we can determine whether we want to continue and contact to see for a public
hearing with that based on a rough idea of figures >> when we have a rough idea of figures what it might we we really don't and I think that was that what makes the decision difficult is that there's um there aren't even really good estimates as to how many people qualify uh you know, in addition, incorrectly if I say it wrong here, but in addition to me that you need to apply for some application process. >> Yeah, it's tough because if someone who lives in the Wellsboro district, but also over like they have part of Lewis in their district as well. So, some people may it the data is just too hard to track down. I was I was at a presentation on Monday actually and someone reported on this um something like 85% of
districts in New York State don't have this exemption, which makes it more difficult to project out how much it's going to impact us. So, when I ask the county, I want to say they've told me that they their best estimate is like 122 parcels will qualify. Uh, but that's that's an estimate. How about double dealing with um um you know fire exemption along with veterans exemption along with 4 ADA along with you all other kinds of exemptions can be tripled down double down if you Yeah. So if if you're talking you can get the firemen and the bedrooms because they're not part of the same property tax law. They're they're completely separate. So you could double up on those is my understanding. Um, and then the veterans one that has like the three different parts
below it. Those are all stackable as well. So you could potentially double triple. >> How about getting a 48A and star exemption? >> All the other things that you could double down, triple down, or duplic. >> Yeah, I'd have to ask our attorney on that. I'm not clear enough with the property tax law. Um, >> and I just I don't have districts that have multiple at this point. Um, star though is blank. That one is totally separate. Everyone will be fine there. >> But I'd have to ask the attorney on that. >> Each time this person goes up the exemption, this person goes up. >> So, are we in agreement that we should continue looking into this? based on the survey results >> have only one >> because we haven't ask about that >> right
here. >> Okay, >> thank you. Anything else? >> Okay, thank you. Um, number 20, public comment. Our agenda offers two public comment sections. Opinions, ideas, and concerns that are offered by the public will be considered and taken under advisement. We have set aside a 15minute period giving the audience time to share their thoughts with us. Please raise your hand to be acknowledged by the board president and called upon. Please identify yourself and give your address, limiting your comments to three minutes. Do we have anyone? Yes. Go ahead. just from Westport. Um, we'll say I'm not a fan [laughter] of public speaking, but um, my daughter wanted me to speak a few months ago, but again, I don't enjoy public speaking, but here I am now. Um, so it was a little over a year ago
that I stood up at a board meeting to talk about the problems related to special education, which had been long-standing issues. I did not have high hopes that this year would be any different. I was wrong. Um, I found people within the Mountain View campus that fought for my kids just as hard as I have for my children. We faced numerous obstacles during the second half of the year, but we did not face them alone. There are quite a few or quite a number of teachers and admin at Mountain View that went above and beyond for my family. I wanted to thank everyone who has made this a good year for us. I also wanted to thank everyone who helped with the sixth grade Boston trip, proctor trips, ski trips, etc. Um, many children would
not have had these opportunities if this school did not let them. >> Thank you. Thank you very much. [laughter] >> Nice to hear something positive. Is there anyone else? Andrew. Andrew Denton Lewis. Um, I have a few things. Well, what summer for Black Plus 80 to add to the slideshow. Um, so as right now, our yearbook, school yearbook has been wrapped up and they're supposed to be distributed tomorrow. Some students got them today because they're delivered here. Um, on Monday and Tuesday, the seniors are coming on the senior play, which is Greece Lightning. Um, this is the first senior play in Vocat Valley history. The last play that was done was a I think it was like a 6 through 12 play. So, this one's a little bit more. >> Yeah. Just for the seniors.
Um, and another exciting news that I just heard about was Upwardbound got both their grants back. >> So, which is pretty happy. >> I didn't know that. [laughter] I was told by the director. >> Okay. Yeah, >> he's got connections. >> I have connections. I'm director. [laughter] Um, but there is still a little bit of controversy with Department of Education. So, they're still waiting for the money to come back, but it was granted back to them. So, they're not sure when the program's going to start back up again, but they're hoping within the next year, which is really good. Um, it's also nice because two of our teachers here also teach Upperbound, and it's always nice to learn the summertime and have something to relate to. Um, and then earlier, while you guys were talking
about like the AI stuff and stuff like that, um, like this year, we have learned how to properly use AI and not use it. um like how we can use it to help spell check our essays and we can also use it to like if we need a prompt to work on if there's prompts and everything like that and they also have educational versions of AI that don't do the work for you but help you talk through steps and how to do work on assignments and stuff like that which personally that helped me throughout the school year when I didn't have any teachers to help because they're either busy or stuff like that having I'm pretty sure we have Google Gemini on our Chromebooks if I'm correct and that definitely helped us out a lot
Um, so I'm hoping in the future that teachers can still educate more about the proper ways of using AI since it is growing in our economy and it's growing in the world like our phones itself have AI built into them now. Um, so it's good that the students learn properly how to use it instead of abusing it. >> Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you. >> Anyone else? Paul. Okay, moving right along. Number 21. Our next meeting will be a reorganizational and regular meeting on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026 at 6 6 pm at the Mountain View campus. Um, and before we enter into executive session, um, again, I'd like to take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Paul Mendon for his service to the board of education this year. We truly
appreciate the time and effort that you have put into um helping to strive toward achieving our district's vision. So, thank you, District. >> Number 22, executive session. Specifically, the board anticipates entering into executive session for the following reason. A number six to discuss the medical, financial, credit or employment history of a particular person or persons. B number eight to discuss the proposed acquisition, sale or lease of real property or the proposed acquisition, sale or exchange of securities, but only when public publicity would substantially affect the value of these things. Do I have a motion to enter into executive session? >> A motion. >> Thank you, Deb. Second. >> Thank you, Paige. Any discussion? All in favor? I opposed. Abstensions. Motion passes to enter into executive session.
