On subject 3.1, may I please get a motion to approve the minutes of the February 9th, 2026 business meeting as presented at this meeting. Kevin, Patty, any discussion? All in favor? I. Motion passes seven to zero. Subject 4.1, uh, statements and presentations to the board of education. I will

hand it over to Superintendent Adam. >> Good evening. Thank you. Um on tonight's agenda there is uh the external approving the external auditor that was done by the audit committee uh both for this school year as well as approving the contracts for the future school year and that is after an RFP is done. In addition the policy committee reviewed three different policies related to DESA's law and updating our school safety policy. Dash's law is specific to CPR and A equipment that is mandated that we have and the rules associated with that. And then also reviewing the policies with meal services and charging meals because now the meals are free. There is no charging meals can't go into a negative. So we just have to update the language on that. And so they pay everything that

they additional that they pay for. They just pay at cost at the time. the board trustee election. Just wanted to note that if you are looking to run for the board of education that the petitions are available to district clerk. You can email her or call her any time. We have two seats up this year. One for Ian Mahoney and one for so when if you're interested, please reach out to the district. Also on tonight's agenda is the district calendar for 2026 20 There are 186 school days. That is two one to two less snow days than we've had in recent history, if not really my entire time here. Um, so we'll only have six snow days, which means likely not to have give back days. Um, and if it's a heavy winter, uh, we

do we very clear at the bottom what days we kind of have to take away and that's over spring break if we go beyond those six days. So this mirrors the OC's calendar. It is also a nearly exact replica of the Lawrence calendar as well. In terms of administrative reports, we have reports tonight from Miss Spring, which I will be reading. She was unable to attend this evening. Mr. Glasby, the middle school principal, and M.Y, our assistant superintendent. For the elementary school, they had the hundth day of school on February 23rd, and it was transformed. celebrating a 100 days. Some of them dressed as if they were 100 years old and some of them brought a hundred items like little stickers or buttons or pom poms. It's always a fun day and a way to

bring mathematical concepts into the real world. The New York Folders Challenge reading challenge uh was concluded on March 15th. It was a great motivator and thank you Miss Hourfs for her dedication in researching and organizing the event. Once again, I know everyone has fun going to the The great readaloud they did for the second year in a row and allowed students to visit their previous year's teacher for a special story session and it was great way to maintain bonds between students and staff while celebrating the joy of good books. In terms of academic progress and collaboration, teachers have remained focused on utilizing student data to drive instruction. We continue to refine practices through collaboration with our instruction approach and ongoing training to ensure that every student is gaining their growth targets as we head into

the final months of the school year. Looking ahead in the remainder of March, tomorrow there will be a PBIS assembly to recognize and celebrate students who continue to wow their students, their teachers and assistants. Also, tomorrow is proud to be lucky to be a Laker Day, celebration of school pride where the hallways will be covered chair marks and we encourage everyone to come press green and just send out message about that. Next week, students will be participating in breathing is my superpower, an inclass program to help children explore how to calm their bodies through breathing exercises. The book fair is coming up on March 26th and 27th. The PTSA is running that. Thank you to the PTSA and the students have been busy shopping and spending their hardearned bear bucks at the bear. So, Miss

Frank is looking forward to a warm spring and thank you for the continued support of students and staff. Thank you, Mr. Gillespie. You want to present about the middle school? Okay, good evening everyone. We have two uh large scale events here at the middle school uh this month. Uh one the first being the uh staffer students basketball game that is a GLTA sponsored event u which took place on March 5th. Uh it was another great success this year. Uh we had a great crowd and there was much excitement throughout the game and during the trick or tray basket raffles of course. Uh thanks again to GTA for sponsoring this event as a fundraiser for our eighth grade class. That is uh very much appreciated. And also thank you to all of our staff and students

that participated and gave us a fun and competitive game for our community to come out and enjoy it. Thank you also to our coaches of the students, Miss Novak and Mrs. Enworth for uh coaching the students. It was tr it was a competitive game all the way to the end, but the staff ultimately prevailed as this year's champions. Um, so those are some fun photos uh on the bottom there of our slide. And then on the all the top photos are some wonderful photos from Susical Jr., our school musical that um just concluded this past weekend. We had a production on Friday night and again on Saturday morning. And uh again, congratulations to all of our cast and crew on putting together another great drama production this year. It's it's so good each year to

see where we start when we first begin casting and where we end up. And even just from the rehearsals last week to the final performances, um, everyone did a wonderful job. So, I would uh again like to celebrate them and also uh thank our directors for all of their work preparing and supporting our drama club members so they could showcase uh their wonderful talents this year. So again, special thanks to Mr. Compton, Mr. Janelle, and Mr. Roberts for uh all their work preparing our students. Other uh recent and uh upcoming events that we had on Friday, February 27 27th, we did have our second uh quarter celebration for our students who made honor roll, high honor roll and perfect attendance here in the cafeteria. So that was a great opportunity to recognize those students for

for their efforts. Um, this past Friday we had peer leadership members sponsor a readaloud for fourth and fifth grade members after school in the library and they kind of packaged that with the read for the rock and boulders event that is taking place uh with the library so they could log their minutes during that reading event and uh one provide a nice reading activity for fourth and fifth grade students while also logging minutes for everybody um as part of that um that activity. Tomorrow, as Miss Had said, is lucky to be a Laker day. So, we are encouraging all students and staff to wear green or their Laker apparel to celebrate Laker Pride. Today, spring sports began uh modified sports began at the middle school. Um we had uh softball and track and baseball will

uh begin tomorrow. The good news is that the snow is melted. The bad news is it's raining, adding more uh um conditions to those fields. So, we're looking for a couple sunny days to dry out the infields and and really feel like spring sports has started. Uh, also just a reminder that this week we have the PTSA book fair going on on Thursday and Friday. And on Thursday night will be the the book fair um family night that will take place here in the middle school from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. And we're already into our third quarter progress report. That ended last week. Uh, grades are being finalized this week. Um, or progress reports that is. and they will be available for families on Monday the 23rd. And then finally, next week uh is our

last week before we head into uh the spring break. We are having our Bel Air ski trip which uh was rescheduled because of the snow day that we had. So we are um rescheduling that for those who have already purchased tickets and are attending. That's on the 24th. And then on um the 26th, our coral students will be attending um Bowington Capitol to perform as part of music in our schools. >> And that is it for the middle school. >> Thank you. >> Good evening and thank you for the opportunity to speak this evening. On tonight's agenda for board of education adoption is the 2526 mentoring and professional development plan. Over the summer, a committee comprised of uh teachers and related service providers as well as myself uh reviewed, revised, and updated the district's existing

plans to ensure alignment with current New York State regulations. All required components are included in the updated documents. uh revisions were primarily focused on formatting, organization, and ensuring clear alignment with regulatory expectations rather than substantive program changes. Our next step is following the board's adoption, the plan will be shared with administrators and staff to support clear understanding and ensure implementation with fidelity across the district. Uh on last Wednesday, we uh had our March superintendence conference day and the focus or I should say theme was teaching in the age of AI. The day began with a keynote note session for all faculty including teachers, related service providers and teaching assistants that explored the evolving role of artificial intelligence in education and its implications for teaching and learning. We had our model schools integration technology integration specialist

from Orange Olivose as our uh professional development trainers that day. Uh we have three uh wonderful presenters. One who did our keynote and worked uh with what we call our and I'll talk about that our beyond beginner sessions. We had beginner sessions as well as more advanced uh staff. Then after the keynote participated in differentiated breakout sessions both in the morning and the afternoon designed to meet educators at varying levels of familiarity with AI. Uh the sessions for beginners introduce foundational concepts and practical starting points for using AI to support professional tasks. The beyond beginner sessions focused on developing stronger prompting, critically evaluating AI outputs and understanding considerations such as bias, privacy, and intellectual property. And for those who had more advanced experience, sessions explored innovative applications, including integrating tools such as Notebook LM, Gemini,

and Google Classroom to design dynamic instructional materials, and streamline lesson plan development. Overall, the day provided staff with opportunities to build foundational understanding, deepen responsibilities, and explore more advanced applications of AI in ways that support teaching, learning, and professional productivity while also being able to turn key what they uh learned to their students as well. So, just have some pictures up there. Thank you. >> Thank you very much. >> Okay, perfect. All right, moving along. Um, Mike, this is about Oxbow. Any updates? >> Oxbow. Last meeting was cancelled. No. Uh, they're going to reschedule meeting. They're doing a whole presentation on AI. I know they open. It's always open, but they're encouraging board members to go. They want to know. Uh, no word on when it's going to be scheduled. The next uh Oxford meeting

is going to be a lot about um students representation on boards. Uh, it doesn't really apply to because we don't have any high school students, but that is a new law. So, every high school, every school that has a high school has to have a student board member the city. Um, so they're going to be part of the next presentation. So, if anyone is interested in coming to that, >> thank you. Uh, Ian Chester, high school updates. >> Sure. Not much um not too much update. They just had their uh spring play and then they just took their school uh school calendar just about states and if you ever checked out the sports tearing down so there >> thank you had a warm up high school. >> Um, just a couple things. Uh, spring sports

have started. So, parents, make sure if your child's playing a spring sports, you download activity app to find out um games are. Um, and most teams, if not all, have full classrooms post daily announcements about practices and changes. So, make sure you're on your child's school classroom or their team. Um, this past weekend, the high school also saw a great performance of lay miz. So, congratulations to um the of that and anyone involved. Um, high school parent teacher conferences um on March 18th and 26 from 5 to 8:00 p.m. And on March 27th, the environmental club will be having a clothing swap in the main lobby. So, all donations can be brought to room 17 and all this information is on the website. >> Thank you. Uh, audit committee, we're actually approving our region council

tonight. Uh budget committee, we're meeting on Monday. Okay, that's still on schedule. Um facilities just met and reviewed everything with what our next steps are. >> Uh policy committee. I know there's a couple policies tonight. I don't see anybody here from the PTSA, but does anybody have any updates >> fair? Okay. And anything um village of Green Lake to talk about the election this week? >> Oh, it's this Wednesday. >> This Wednesday also there's school ties to to our SRO Richie Brennan and TA Lori Bren here. Congratulations. That's something nice. >> Good for them. Okay, moving along. Uh, subject 5.1, privilege of the floor. And I believe we're going to have speakers. So before Hold on, you can say that I have to read a public statement. It's I just have to read it every

time we have a speaker. So it's just a little thing I have to do. Uh public expression at meeting shall be encouraged and the following guidelines are intended to promote an orderly procedure for public comment participation. The public will be given the opportunity to address the board regarding items of interest and concern during the privilege of the floor section of each monthly regular board meeting. And just because you can address us doesn't mean that we will answer you tonight. But we will take your, you know, concerns and have the administration follow up with anything that you guys have. Uh, anyone wishing to be heard must sign in on the public comment form prior to the start of the business meeting or before speaking. Speakers will be asked to state their name before addressing their question

or statement to the board. Speakers may be limited to three minutes each and their comments or questions. Speakers are to have the right to speak without interruption and are here to address the president of the board. That's me. Um, my name's John, by the way. Um, comments regarding specific personnel will be ruled out order and referred to the superintendent. Speakers will not be recognized for a second time until all who wish to speak have been given an opportunity. The board the board may suspend privilege of the floor if it is determined that continued discussion on a particular topic will prevent the board from completing its scheduled business or if one of the above guidelines are not adhered to and continued participation is deemed to be destructive. Thank you. Now it's all yours. >> Great. Where

do I sign it? >> Uh there should be yes and you can hopefully the microphone is turned on as well. Sorry, it was very messy. I need to state my name. I'm Diana CL. Um, good evening members of the board. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to speak tonight. My name is Diana Cloth. I am here as a parent of a young elementary school student in this district. My husband and I felt it was important to come before you because we have serious concerns regarding student safety and the handling of repeated incidences involving aggressive behavior in our child's classroom. Child is 6 years old. Six. Over the course of this school year, she has experienced multiple incidents with the same student involving physical aggression, objects thrown being thrown at her, and threatens violence. In

one instance, she reported being choked during recess. In another, offense was thrown at her and struck her. most recently of all was thrown directly at her gym class. Then we proceeded to threaten our family. These situations have understandably caused significant fear and distress for our child. One particularly concerning situation involved the same student making a verbal threat involving a weapon towards a different child in the classroom. Our child heard the statement and reported it to an adult immediately. Despite the seriousness of that situation, it was never communicated to us as adults. In fact, the majority of the incidents we had learned about did not come from school staff, but our six-year-old child, her classmates, or other parents. I also want to make something very clear. Every time something happened, our child told an adult. She

did exactly what students are taught to do when something concerning occurs. She reported the incidents and sought help from the adults responsible for supervising the students. I also want to acknowledge that there was one instance where our daughter reacted inappropriately. After being treated unkindly, she told the other child that she was allowed to hit him. We were informed of that situation by the school teacher and we addressed it immediately at home. We spoke with our daughter about why that behavior was not acceptable and made sure she apologized. As parents, we believe strongly in accountability and teaching our child how to handle conflict conflict appropriately. However, the larger concern is the repeated pattern of behavior that has continued throughout the year and the lack of consistent communication with parents when serious incidents occurred. The district's code

of conduct clearly states that students have the right to learn in an environment free from intimidation and fear. It also states that student personnel are responsible for addressing situations that threaten the physical or emotional safety of students and for reporting those threats of violence. Those policies exist for a reason, to ensure that schools remain safe places for children to learn and grow. We understand that schools face complex situations and that every child deserves support and guidance. Our intention is not to single out or attack any indivi individual child or staff member. Rather, our goal is to ensure that when concerning patterns of behavior arise, they are addressed appropriately and communicated clearly to the families whose children may be affected. Since raising these concerns with the school administration, we have had the opportunity to meet and

discuss steps moving forward. We do appreciate those efforts and willingness to work with us. However, we felt it was important to bring this matter to the board because student safety and communication are fundamental responsibilities of any school district. Parents must be able to trust that serious incidents will be addressed promptly and they will they will be informed when their child is involved in or affected by those incidents. Our child deserves to feel safe at school. Every child does. We respectfully ask the board to ensure that the district's safety policies and code of conduct are being consistently followed, that communication with families is clear and timely, and that appropriate intervention occurs when student behavior begins to escalate. We all share the same goal, safe schools, supported students, and a positive learning environment for every child in

this district. Thank you for your time. Thank you for your commitment to the safety and well-being of all students. >> Thank you very much. We'll make sure that's addressed. Appreciate it. Okay. Um, subject 6.1, unless there's anybody else that wants to speak. >> Okay. Sorry about that. >> That's okay. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. >> My name is Amy Bellen. >> How is everyone? Just a couple quick questions. Um I'm just curious um has anyone ever thought like when I look at other school districts um people you know staff members have their doctor at every level. Do we encourage people to get their doctrines because we might be the only school district that doesn't have any doctrines on our staff? That's one question. My next question is um will the post for the

board of ed seats be on the website because it's not on it now and the petitions were supposed to go out or you could pick them up as of March 3rd. So I'm not sure will that be posted that there's two board seats up >> on the board site and you can just contact me and I petition. >> Thank you Mary. Um the only reason why I'm asking because I didn't know any board seats were up. There's always both seats up every every year. >> Okay. Usually sometimes they're starting. >> Oh, okay. Thank you. Because I thought in the past they would say this one's up and that one's up and you know that sort of thing. >> Okay. >> I appreciate it. Thank you. >> All right. Thank you, Amy. >> You're welcome. Anyone wishing to be heard must sign in on the public comment form prior to the start of the business meeting or before speaking. And that form is

going to be at the podium. Uh speakers will be asked to state their name before addressing their question or statement to the board. Comments regarding specific personnel will be ruled out of order and referred to the superintendent. Speakers will not be recognized for a second time until all who wish to speak have been given an opportunity. The board may suspend privilege in the floor if it's determined that continued discussion on a particular topic will prevent the board from completing its scheduled business or if one of the above guidelines are not adhered to and continued participation is deemed to be disruptive. Okay, it's

all yours. >> Okay. >> Good evening. My name is Melissa Delon Milligan and I'm a parent in the district and I want to thank you for the opportunity to speak tonight. Um, I also want to apologize by my abrupt entrance. I was told on my way in that I missed it and I like was frecking and you know getting everything together very schedule. Um, okay. I also um shared my questions with the district by email earlier this evening so that the board and the district leadership is aware of the topics that I am raising this evening. My questions focus primarily on scheduling considerations related to the sixth grade inclusion classroom uh and other topics but that is my focus. Um first I would like clarification regarding foreign language in sixth grade. Is Spanish actually required

for all sixth grade students or is it just simply part of the default schedule? If it is not, I wonder whether the instructional block might sometimes be used for additional literacy or academic support for students who may benefit from it. Second, I would ra I would like to raise a concern about the scheduling of English language arts, ELA, for the sixth grade inclusion class. Currently, ELA takes place at the very end of the day. um and every other day followed by the ELA extension period. For students whose disabilities affect reading and concentration, that can represent a significant amount of sustained lit uh amount of sustained literacy work at a time when students are already mentally fatigued. I would ask whether the district has reviewed whether core literacy instruction is being scheduled at a time best

supporting learning for children with reading disabilities. It is also worth noting that this sixth grade cohort was a kind was in kindergarten and first grade during co COVID disruption which were critical years for early literacy development. This makes strong and well-timed reading instruction especially important for this group of students. I would also ask whether the district currently has a parent group or committee for families of students with special needs. If not, I would encourage the district to consider creating one to strengthen collaboration between families and the school community. Finally, I would like to I would appreciate guidance on the best way for parents to follow up on questions raised during this public comment part of the meeting so that uh we can ensure continued dialogue with the district. My goal in raising these questions is

simply to support collaboration between families and the district and to help ensure that all students, particularly those with learning disabilities, are given the best opportunity to succeed. Uh if you have any questions for me, um I would love to answer. Otherwise, I thank you for my time and I just wanted to bring this very important matter to the attention of the board. It's very important and I really hope that it's going to be addressed right now. I'll give you an example. My child has a learning disability. She is in sixth grade. She has ELA, which is the hardest subject for her. She has very difficult um reading fluency. If you read it to her, she can understand it, but she can't read it to get it into her brain in order to process it. And

she has ADHD. Therefore, for her at the end of the day, this important top subject that she needs to be successful in school is being taught at the very end of the day where she cannot focus and spends a lot of time actually getting reprimanded for behaviors that are hard to control. When you are faced with these types of disabilities. So, I um I really think that we just collaboratively need to look at the way that we're scheduling these programs um and also and whether or not the kids with these types of disabilities that don't require um Spanish to actually use that time for learning how to properly read um rather than sitting in a Spanish class that they don't actually need. >> Yeah. We I mean I I I heard you said you sent

this to the administration. So we'll >> I did I sent the email you guys all questions my my u my my possible responses. I'm not somebody who likes to bring problems to um a group. I actually like to help with solutions. So, I'm I'm I would love to collaborate and try to make, you know, something work where my sixth grader doesn't getting worse at reading to a fifth grade level. So, I I whatever whatever we can do, but I appreciate your time and I hope to take any more. >> Yeah. Thank you. We'll make sure that's your emails reviewed and the appropriate administration will be in touch with you. >> Okay. Wonderful. So, I'll look out for that. >> Okay. Thank you very much and have a good evening. >> Thank you. You too. >>

Okay. Subject 11.1. May I please get a motion to adjourn to executive session for discussions conducted pursuant to the Taylor Law involving the GLTA Union? Evan Patty. Any discussion? All in favor? I. Motion passes 7 to zero. Um, we will not be returning to public session after executive session. The next board of education meeting will take place on uh Tuesday, April 21st, 2026 at 6 p.m. in the middle school captorium. Thank you very much everybody. Enjoy your evening.
