Mary found some really great ones for you.
Thank you. >> What you guys do every day, I would say every month, but it's absolutely much more work than that. Uh what you do for the students in this district on a voluntary basis, the amount of time you put in, the amount of research, sorry. Um really is just uh nobody has a real knowledge unless you've done it in terms of the amount of work that you guys put in. So, um, thank you for your dedication to our students and our staff and the community and for, um, keeping students at the center of your decision making. So, we appreciate you and we'll make sure you put those phones in your car. >> Perfect. Thank you very much. >> Uh, for this evening's administrative reports, we have Miss Ring for the elementary school. Good evening,
members of the board of education, administrators, and the community. It's been a wonderful start to the school year, even though right now I'm looking at November flashing before my eyes. It's gone so fast. I'm excited to share some of the highlights from the past several weeks. We started the year with a beautiful heartfelt performance um of proud to be an American at our Patriots Day ceremony honoring our local first responders and active and retired military members in remembrance of those who lost their lives on September 11th. Students gathered around the flag pole where Mr. Poe led them a beautiful song. It was very touching and unifying moment for entire school community and a meaningful way to begin the year together. We also kicked off another grandparents day at the elementary school trying yet another schedule.
This time we had another joyful event heartwarming that filled our school with smiles and laughter. Students in every grade grade either performed songs, recited poems, or just shared time with their special guest with a cookie and some juice and a special project alongside their grandparents. And they captured their memories with fun selfies to take home and share. It was a beautiful day celebrating. Our teachers have been working diligently to implement our new HFH into reading program. They are participating weekly in virtual coaching sessions to strengthen their instruction and practices and having many grade level meetings to make sure that they have what they need to be successful. Students in classrooms are engaged and enjoying the authentic literature, meaningful discussions, and daily writing opportunities that the program provides. It's been exciting to see them learning and
the classrooms buzzing with curiosity and confidence as they grow as readers and writers. Our third graders recently had a day of learning and discovery at the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in New Jersey. The trip supported their science unit on the earth systems as they explored how minerals are mined and how mining impacts communities. Students tooured an underground mine and saw real equipment in action and marveled at the world famous fluorescent rainbow tunnel as you can see in the golden rocks. They even took part in a rock and mural collecting activity, creating labeled gift boxes to bring home and share. It was very memorable for all the students and an engaging day of hands-on learning. Um, tomorrow our first graders are headed off to Vanson Park and the Bergen County Zoo. Um, our kindergarteners are going
to Pennington Farm next week for pumpkin picking and fall fun. So, lots of trips on our calendar really quickly. Also, we um kicked off our PBIS positive behavior intervention and support program this year. We had an assembly to start the year on a positive note and students were thrilled to meet the Greenwood Lake Bear. It was a little awkward for me to call him Bape, so I didn't call him Babe, but I know that's his name. Um, he delivered a special message encouraging them to work hard, be kind, use their manners, and their theme this month at school was manners. And they learned key vocabulary words such as please, thank you, good morning, and you're welcomed. At our upcoming monthly assembly, students will sorry, students who have wowed the adults in the building by demonstrating
these positive behaviors will be recognized. And each month, new character traits will be introduced as we continue to build a culture of respect, responsibility, and kindness throughout our school. Looking ahead, as we move through October, our school community is gearing up for several exciting events. We have pink women week coming up where students will write words of hope on pink hearts to decorate the hallways and will wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness. We have red ribbon week coming up where we focus on healthy fitness kindness um and along with think spirited days to prov to promote positive choices. We have our pumpkin patch coming up where the students will visit our school pumpkin patch and pick and decorate pumpkins. A huge thank you to Miss Vancurin and our PTSA for organizing this festive
fall event. And then lastly, to end the month, we'll have our Halloween parade at the end of the month where we'll celebrate um this favorite Green News, music, and fun as families line the sidewalk to cheer us on. Lastly, I'd like to just formally welcome Miss Stephanie Carrera, our new principal secretary to Greenwood Lake Elementary School. She has quickly become an invalu part invaluable part of our office, bringing warmth, warmth, organization, and positivity to everything she's doing. We're thrilled to have her as part of the team. It has been a fantastic start of the school year filled with learning, laughter, and community spirit. Thank you for joining us and your continued support. >> Thank you. >> Good evening everyone. >> Similarly, we have had a busy start to the school year. Uh I also cannot
believe we're at the middle of October right now. Um, dating back to the beginning of the year, we also celebrated Patriot Day here at the middle school. Uh, I would like to thank all of our first responders who came out that day, uh, both from the police departments, the fire department, and our, um, ambulance score. Um, it was a great day for all of our students to recognize and understand uh, the meaning um, behind 911 and everybody showed uh, great pride wearing their red, white, and blue that day. We also um had our RPBIS full school kickoff event which you'll see you see in the picture. Um we reinforced positive behaviors um and expectations in all areas of our school including on the buses with our students and then our students worked together as teams
to show what they learned and take a quiz game participated quiz game which ended with the winning home room getting an ice cream party. Um, also on uh September 18th, we had our back to school night opportunity for parents to come in, meet with teachers, and see what their students are doing in the classroom. And then uh most recently, last week was a busy week. We had our PTSA pitcher day. Thank you again to the PTSA for everything with um that day and organizing that. And also, we had our fifth grade biography party. That's another um great event. As you can see from the photo up in the top of the slide there, uh parents get to come in, watch our students speak, which I will say they did an excellent job with. So, thank
you to our fifth grade teachers for the preparation um and for putting on that that event for our students. Also, last week, our sixth graders went to a showin. That's the big picture in the center. And that was um Miss Burket and Miss Collins are the adviserss for that. So, thank you to them and to all of our uh teachers who show on that trip. A great time was had by all the students. They were able to bring back some uh some examples of the things they worked on on the trip. But again, it's a it's a great experience for our students to be able to experience that. We also had our early dismissal drill on Friday. And Friday also marked the end of the first five weeks of the first market period. Surprise reports
uh are being finished up now and will be mailed out and available to parents online next Monday. Also on Friday, we had a fourth and fifth grade uh fire prevention assembly. So, thank you again to the fire department for coming out and going over all the uh important um factors that students need to be aware of when it comes to the fire prevention, not just fire itself, but the the prevention piece and they talked about things like lithium batteries, which are a lot of the things that the the students use. So, um again, thank you to our fire department for doing that annually and for um training our students on what to do in emergencies. Uh, also we have up there we have this student of the month recognizing our students month for September which
was for leadership. And then on the top right there we had a class activity was done in our Spanish class uh last week where the students actually uh made tortillas from scratch. So that was a fun event. Got to go up there and saw them um having fun uh learning about tortillas but then obviously uh making them. Coming up, we have next week we have our pink out as well on the 24th. We also have a fall dance on the 24th next week. So, we will have our fourth and fifth graders directly after school at 2:30 um like we always do. And we will have our sixth or eighth graders from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. uh next Friday. And then the following week is our recognition of Red Ribbon Week. We have a couple events
going on in recognition of that. I'll speak to those at the uh our next meeting. But I would like everyone to know that we are doing a spirit week that week. And so each day has a theme uh in accordance with red red ribbon. And then the last piece is just to let everyone know that we've already started our high school choice process. So we've had communication with both Warwick and Chester. And we have our visit set. We'll be going to um Chester first on the 10th of November and then Warwick on the 12th where students will go for their visit and then there'll be opportunities for parents to also visit those evenings and hear about the programs in all the schools. And that's it for me. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> And then
we have a curriculum and instruction update from Mr. >> Good evening. Um tonight's update's going to highlight the professional development that has been provided um to our teaching staff and SRP uh staff districtwide. Um prior to the start of the school year, our UPK teachers began the year with the prek on my way uh curriculum training focused on literacy, language, and math. Um and they will also have additional sessions scheduled to support the implementation. This is all um based on um prior discussion I had with the board and we've been talking about through the course of the 2425 school year in regards to the science of reading. So this is uh for the UPK it was the prek on my way. Um also, um K, uh through five teachers participated in an HMH interreading curriculum
walkthrough prior to the start of the school year, um where they had an opportunity to um actually get their hands on the curriculum and uh do their own walkthrough through it. And then on the second day of the superintendent's conference day, um they we had a trainer from uh HMH come and do a walkthrough of the digital and print resources um that are available. Uh the teachers have been diving in in both buildings um finding their way quite nicely. Um as um Michelle had indicated, we also have a component to it called Coachley where our teachers are assigned a coach through HF that they can contact any time throughout the day um and get within about an hour to twohour response back from that coach from HMH or sometimes they can engage in almost like
a back and forth dialogue through a chat um box which is quite nice. Um we have upcoming for HMH uh will continue throughout the school year. Um including this week on October 16th, we have a trainer from HMH coming in to work with grades four and five. And in December uh with grades K through three to work on implementation, planning and um data collection. Additionally, we have Nicole um who worked with us last year from GNR inclusive group uh who's joining us again this year and launched this year's work at the elementary school last week um focusing on inclusive practices uh specially designed instruction and tier one intervention. she had an opportunity to go into um the K1 classrooms as well as the special education classrooms and just observe then provide um debriefing feedback with
the teacher and staff and then we'll be coming again next month and the teachers are really excited uh about using some of the strategies that she is going to be working with them. As mentioned, she'll be returning monthly throughout the year. Uh on November 4th, uh our teaching staff as well as our SRPs will participate in content specific professional development through um the regional superintendence conference day uh hosted at OD Boseies and throughout local districts across the county. Our K5 teachers will remain in district that day for an additional HM professional development. Uh all of these trainings uh will reflect our ongoing commitment to making sure that our staff feels comfortable with the curriculum with H&M and any of the other uh areas that they feel that they would like to uh further develop their
practice or just continue to inspire their practice. Um which then in turn turn keys that over to our learners. So thank you for your support. >> Thank you. That is it for this. >> All right, perfect. Thank you. Uh, moving right along here. So, we'll get to NISSBA. Mike Oxa, any updates? >> NSBA has I haven't seen the uh initi some of that information. Um they are doing a meeting tomorrow for the voting on the initiative is going to be advocated for so that's coming up. So we'll have more information on that topic tomorrow. As far as Oxa, I attended a meeting last week. There's a presentation by school counselors association, very thorough, a lot of information basically what goes on, why what the school counselors do, what their role is in the education process,
a lot of information, a lot of interesting discussion that was good. Um they Oxa is planning on sometime in the spring doing a comprehensive AI presentation. So they're going to invite anyone who wants to be part of that to that meeting or that presentation. So I'll have more information today and that's about it. >> Okay. Thank you. Uh the budget committee, we're actually going to approve the uh the calendar for that tonight. So hopefully everybody that's on the budget committee had a chance to look at that. Uh facilities committee as everybody can see we are almost finished with the capital project. There's a couple punchdown items that are still being worked on. Um then there's some major things like the uh water tank still needs to be delivered in the the chiller at the elementary
school. Um, but for the most part, hopefully everybody, all the teachers are and staff are happy with with how it came out. Policy committee didn't do there on it. So, uh, we didn't >> Oh, we did meet uh last meeting on that. Um, external auditors, everything looked good, good fiscal health. Um, several teams doing a great job. They still did mention that four% threshold for reserves which is taken down which is a good thing to reduce it further a good place there and they did make some recommendations on roles and responsibilities it >> perfect and then uh eating Chester any updates for Chester not much Um tonight there's actually a financial league night but that's ats sewer but uh tomorrow there'll be the national honor society functions um tomorrow and then this weekend is coming
up later on. >> Okay, great. And uh Patty's not here for Warwick, but does anybody else have any updates for Warwick? Don't I don't see anybody here from the PTSA, but I see they announced their uh trunk retreat taking place this Saturday, the 18th, the same day as the event in town. So anyway, >> a lot of candy for the kids. going to sh them up two weeks before the time. >> Um, so there are still room for two more cars if you want to join in. Just visit the Green Lake PTSA Facebook page. >> Okay. Thank you. >> And they're also looking for volunteers for the pumpkin picking event at the elementary school uh participate for UPK. >> Okay, perfect. Anybody can uh volunteer. Please let somebody at the elementary school know and then
village of Green Lake. >> Thank you. Hello everybody. >> Hello there. >> So this Friday, this Saturday, the village is going to be hosting the Halloween festival. More candy for the kids starting at 3:00. We're going to start with trick-or-treating in the village which is hosted by the chamber. And then we At 5, we start with the parade and contest for best outfits. Um, they're going to line up with the elementary and then walk to CVS little ones and they're going to be judging and events, vendors and activities in the field. And then starting at 7, we have from 7 to 10, we're going to have the terror trail which will have a non-scary version for the little ones of who are for the older who, you know, like to do a very scary one.
It's a really great production. So if anyone has the opportunity to go and we really would like everyone to come and support us on Sunday, October 26 at CBS Field, we're going to we are very proud to support an event that is being organized by one of our young residents and a former graduate from the group elementary school and as with the support of the town and the village and board with cares is organized organizing a my matters event at the field on Sunday, October 26. 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. They're going to have speakers, resources, mental and wellness organizations. And what is very important about this event is that it's being organized by young people for young people. So we really want to encourage youngsters to come and visit. They can come
by themselves and they're going to be professionals who are going to be focusing and specialize in young people dealing with mental crisis or your school or or any of the challenges that our young are. So, and we're very excited for that event. Um, on October, starting October 30th and October 31st, the village is going to have a curfew starting at 8:00 p.m. So, we please ask for the schools if you could reinforce that message to the youngsters to make sure that after 8:00 p.m. anyone outside needs to be accompanied with an adult or someone um, anyone under 18 needs to be outside with an adult. And also, especially because and also to please make sure that they are safe and they wear protective gear and that they stay together and try to have a a
fun and safe celebration. So, lots of fun activities. We're looking forward to the 26 to have this this event for young people um and just make sure that if anyone has any event or any support that the village could help you with, please make sure that you share that information with us.
