Kazaki Athens FFA. Um, this is our second year. The chapter was chartered last year in 2024. And these are our offices. We have Danica Forcola is our president. our vice president Parker Sa the secretary Joe Hoodman our treasurer Ariana Buglia is not here she's working um and our reporter Emma Lander and our Sentinel Robert Puffs and I'm Renee Royer the advisor we just go to the third one in so this I'm going to do a little bit and then the kids are going to talk so this is what I do with FFA we do a three circle model uh which encompasses a education we do our classroom extra instruction that I do every day our supervisor a experiences which I supervise the kids going out and doing experiences about agriculture as well as leadership in
FFA. All of that encompasses our aed which our goal is leadership education expert learning and lab instruction. If I touch this will it work? There we go. Okay. Um using free so model in our AFNR career pathway which next year um we are going to introduce AFNR in the classroom which is animal food and natural resources. That curriculum that I'm going to bring in is encompassing all of this with all of the different careers that kids can do. Plants, power structures, aggra business, animal systems, biotech, environmental service, food products, and natural resources, which will include everything that I'm going to teach in the classroom. AFNR, it's basically just what I just said, but if you wanted to read it, um, those are the eight systems that I'll be teaching. Um, and this is also the
eight systems that FFA helps these kids get ready for. I miss it. SAES and AET. So SAPE is a term we use a lot in FFA. It's their supervised A experience. So all these officers behind me should have already started their SAPE, which is basically something that's getting them ready for their career. um and they log it in the AET which is our agricultural experience tracker. This which is part of it will save all their data. So for example, right now I have a seventh grader who is starting his business with his grandmother. He's raising quails. >> So he is going in every day that he feeds his quails, takes care of his quails. He logs it into here and it saves it. And when he graduates, he has a business plan. He's into recordkeeping.
He knows what he has to do, animal husbandry, and he can actually get an award through state FFA for all the work that he's done. And it just helps prepare kids for a huge amount of things that they're going to encounter in life. Now, I'm done talking. We're going to talk about these are the events that we have done since we started in August. Um when I was hired in August, we immediately took over. I was an adviser at Greenville. I came over here and we slid right in. So this is what we've done since the last week of all day or no July was we did the fair in July under. So who's doing events? >> Um I can do like the fair. Go ahead. Um, so I myself show at the Green County
Youth Fair. I'm part of the uh Medway Mountain Medway Mountaineers for age club. The Green County Youth Fair, we have a little setup. So we have like a wheel that we teach kids about FFA, about agriculture, why it's important. We have um we pretty we have a cow that kids can milk. We um we just teach kids what about a agriculture, why it's important, and why they should join FFA and what FFA is about. Another thing is the horse shows. That's one of my favorite things. So, at the horse shows, obviously, it's showing animals such as the horse, and we partake in setting up the say it's a jumper show. We set up the jumper courses, like all the jumps or it's a Jim Cano, we set up the uh barrels and all of that,
all the fun games. And we also fund raise money for each uh each FFA department. So Kaki and Greenville such as selling food, selling tickets and all that. Can we just one? And this is what we This is what we are going to do. This is on our calendar for now until May. So we have state convention in May. Uh we have a days also in May that we do up at Greenville. Literacy in the classroom. These guys are actually going to go to the elementary school and read this year's agriculture book and do an activity. We're thinking second grade. Um and substates. We had Emma qualify for substates at districts this year, which is awesome. And substates uh will be in Pine Plains March 14th. Okay. And these are fundraisers. Right now we're doing
uh we're in collaboration with Ospagotchi. We're selling rubber ducks and at the I believe it's in April. They take all the ducks that were sold, dump them in the river and whatever duck gets there first to the end of the uh reservoir wins. We did a popcorn fundraiser which these guys use to fund raise for winter weekend substates or state convention in our SLE which one of them will tell tell you what SL is. And we're also going to sell Easter tulips this year. They're going growing in the greenhouse right now. >> Robert, >> I'm Robert Poutz. I'm the Sentinel to cook sakiens FFA. I plan my future plans are to run for state officer next year. I want to get a bachelor's degree in animal science and an MPS or master in professional studies
and dairy management. And Ideally, I want to go into the USDA, specifically the NAS department or National Agricultural Statistical Services as like a statistician that surveys and does other and makes the objective statistics for the well US agriculture or [snorts] work as a nut or work as a nutritionist for dairy farms that sets like the food or the TMR total mix ration for dairy farms. So you decide what percentage is if it needs more protein, nitrogen, whatever it needs. Fiverr. Fiber is a big thing. Neutral determinant fiber. Um I attended winter weekend. I went to the state leadership event or SLE with um Emma Lambert, our reporter. It was uh it was a great event. I met I got to meet Senator Hinchi and Assemblyman Chris Tig. And the event is just like it's a
great event to build social skills in people that they need. Like I I didn't know I went there knowing basically just that much. That's that's all I knew going there. I got to meet all these people from Koval scale. Even people from all the way from like Shenango County, which is roughly two and a half hours away from here in even farther west New York, Ithaca area. I got to meet those people otherwise I never meet. And they I got to meet a guy from New York State A and Markets, one of the managers there, one of very few, and got to ask them questions about their job and other stuff in the agricultural field. Um, and I also plan to run for district president for the our FFA district, which is district two. And
yeah, >> thank you. Great job. >> Yeah, >> there it is. No, you're good. Now it's >> No, no, not yet. Emma. Okay. >> Hi, my name is Emma Lambert. I'm the chapter reporter and um some of the events that I've attended are SLE which Rob already talked about, winter weekend districts which I moved on to substates for which is a good thing. Um the Greenville horse show and the Kusaki parade of lights. My future plan is to attend Sunni Cobalt skill and I plan to ma major in animal science and have a minor in a aggra business and I really want to become a large animal veterinarian and I feel that FFA can help me achieve these goals by giving me the necessary connections and skills that I would need for my career to
help benefit this industry in [snorts] every day. >> Thank you. [clears throat] >> Uh hi, I'm Paul Sheberg. I'm the vice president of our FFA chapter. Some of the um events I've attended is winter weekend where we got to interact with other members of district 2 which was really good getting working on our social skills. I went to districts where I competed in uh job skills where I did a mock interview. I we went to Kasaki par lights trying to get out in community make make ourselves known and uh we attended the Green County youth fair where we are trying to teach a to younger people and the older people and we went to Cobas high school day interacting with other businesses and trying to figure out what we want to do with the rest
of our lives. My future plan is to graduate from Questar in high school with my heavy equipment certific certification where I want to get a job operating heavy equipment in Union and I feel like the FFA will help me with that by giving me the necessary um social skills and giving me connections with people like by going to Copusco High School day. I um met with a couple of guys from the union where they taught me about what um it will consist of and what I need to do to get there. Bye to Joe. >> Oh, is it? >> You have to hit it here. >> Hi, I'm Li Rman. I'm the chapter secretary for this year. And some of the events I've attended/computed at is district's winter weekend high school day at Sunni Cobalt
Skill, the Greenville War Show, Green County Youth Fair, and Alima Fair, and the Columbia County Fair. The future plans that I hope to achieve is to attend Cornell College under the ROC program so I can get a lot of my college um paid off and also to have a good career path after college. I either want to major in horse density street animal ethnology or aggro business. And I believe FFA will help me with this is kind of like how Emma Parker already explained it. >> I think it's very Do you mind any >> I'll give Ariana. >> It's okay. So Ariana's not here. She's working. Um these are the couple of things that or a lot of things that she's done. She's done the ecoin affair, the parade of lights. She's our treasurer too.
Um the districts she competed in job skills and the creed officer training green belt horse show high school day winter weekend and districts this year. She is committed to the University of Buffalo, which we're very excited for her. And she's going to major in criminology and further her education at law school and eventually become a private defense lawyer, save loads of money, and open her own floral shop. So, she's she love Ariana. She's so great. Um, and we have Dan. Good evening. I'm our chapter's president. And I don't want to bore you. There's many, many events, but I'll definitely say the top three are I would pick out of them all. The Green County Youth Fair cuz I feel like giving back to our community is the best thing we could possibly do. Like just
being able to interact with the youth and even even adults and teach them about agriculture. It's amazing to see um Kaki Parade of Lights like was mentioned. I feel like it's awesome when we all get together, get in into the community. You know, we decorated a hay wagon. me at Hay all over and it's just a good time, you know, you really get to like collaborate with the members and like get to know them on a better stance, not just as members, but also seeing them as friends. Um, >> you threw candy out. >> Yeah, lots lots and lots of candy. We ran out. [laughter] Um, winter weekend. Winter weekend was probably one of my favorite events so far. It is so amazing just to have that opportunity to like go up to camp for
a weekend and what were thereund >> 99 kids there we maxed out the whole entire camp schools from all district 2 I think there was like nine schools there they all come we do a whole bunch of like workshops and like activities it's up in the Aderondex and I it's so awesome you get to there's so many different personalities so many people you meet and you make lifelong connections it's truly the best thing for and then I kind of wrote something cuz I don't really know exactly what my future holds. So, I kind of just wrote something I wanted to share with you. FFA throughout the past few years has meant the world to me. From being able to attend competitions, events, and meeting so many people statewide. It's such a life-changing experience. I wouldn't
be able to do it without the support from our school as well as the members that I get to call my friends. Thank you guys. >> Thank you. >> Do you have any questions for us? >> What year are you guys? So, >> I know some you're senior, some just have full plans. >> So, Ariana is a senior. And go ahead. >> I'm a junior. I'm a freshman. I'm a freshman. >> I'm Well, I'm a sophomore. >> What? >> Big Already. >> And since we opened up to we at a junior FFA, which includes middle schoolers, um we have now four seventh graders, which [snorts] is great. >> Yeah. So, that way when they graduate, I still have members. How many members do you have >> right now? Uh well, we started in Well, we
started the year with four and now we're up to 15. >> Wow. >> Mhm. >> Which is a lot less from what we had in past years cuz we did have the issue with not having advisor for a while. So, I think a lot of kids like just kind of gave up on it and left. Like there was a point where we had almost 30 members and it's it's sad to see them all go, but it's also for the better cuz we got to grow our chapter such amazing way. >> Thank you for having us. >> Honest dates. >> Thank you very much. >> Everything. Thank you. Okay. All right. So, the reason I'm here tonight is to give a pretty high level recap of the schematic design report for the phase 2 component of
the capital project to uh particularly because um Lissa and I reviewed this with the facilities committee uh a couple weeks ago and uh it was felt important that the entire board hear the same message. Uh it was just before uh Mr. Squire had left the building and uh the at conclusion of that meeting he was going to push the schematic design for out to everybody so they could read it. I don't know if you did get it in your inbox or saw it or not. So okay now I'm going to go I'm going to do my thing. Um >> so you know maybe lost some translation in the last couple of hours of his being here right? Um Dr. Sweeney has the same report, the sematic design report and can share it with you afterwards.
>> I'm going you do have Okay. All right. So, I'm going to try to give it a I'm trying to be short in the tooth tonight because I can get a little bit long and give you the u the summary version of it. Feel free to stop me with any questions. I will say that this gives a lot of narrative up front and some graphics at the back end of it. and then I'll conclude with the recapping where we're at with schedule and and other factoids if that's all right. Okay. Uh the opening page consists of uh summary uh or the table of contents actually lead to which one am I pointing at here? There we go. The summary. The project summary. It gives a quick narrative of the history of the project. Uh when
it was voted on, what the votes were, the public votes. um the planning history and the [snorts] uh organization of the of the project as postpone. Okay, this project was uh turned into or planned for and turned into two major phases. uh phase one being what we could uh hit the ground running with and get moving on. And that was the civil real uh components of it, meaning the uh stuff on the site, uh resurfacing the playgrounds and drive, I'm sorry, the parking lot and drives, uh amending the playgrounds with the new equipment. I'll get into more of that. Um but that's the stuff that we can get through state very quickly for permitting purposes. Um just a quick update that that technical review has been completed. We're just waiting for the fiscal associates final
sign off for uh permanent issue. Uh but we have planned on putting that project up for bid shortly. I'll talk about those dates in a minute. Uh phase two is in design and that's where we're at here called schematic design. The first milestone it was completed January on on target. Uh we're entering into the design development component. We're proceeding with the design development of it. So the point here is to report out on to report out to you all of the elements of the project that are captured for our understanding and making sure we're still hitting the mark and not misunderstanding anything. And likewise for for you folks. Um we do get to a point where we look for sign off from both parties so that we can march forward with a mutual understanding we're
capturing everything so that 6 months from now somebody doesn't say, "Oh, well you forgot the swimming pool." Well, there was never a swimming pool in it, right? That kind of thing. It's checks and balances, just good best practice as we see it. This uh uh page also outline the team in case there are questions as to who executives involved. Um it's been a long road and a lot of names have been thrown around. So, it it's it's good to document who the excuse me, who the team is. I just mentioned the civil component of it for uh phase one. That's the LA group. Uh Don McFersonen's been in front of the board a few times talking about the various site plans. Um the uh we are performing all the architecture, mechanical, electrical, plumbing engineering and
management of the project. Uh skipping on the for structural engineering uh HO associates. Uh Keith Heinland has been a a great partner of ours for years and had worked in district on parts of the building including which you're sitting in uh over the years. Food service, we have a specialty food service design subconultant that's worked with us uh relative to the uh respective to the kitchen renovations. uh worked with us for many years um and has consulted with the district specifically uh periodically before this capital project. um habits materials testing. We have retained um Atlantic testing labs. Uh they're all over the the eastern part of the country. Uh they they perform work like geotechnical testing, hazardous materials, uh sampling, design work, uh special inspections and testing when it comes to materials and concrete and
asphalt things of that nature. Um so they are a partner of ours as well too. And then David in communications, we're still on the fence as to whether we bring in somebody else from the outside beyond our own engineering staff. Uh the uh it's limited in nature in this project with the exception of the EGR during school is slated to be rewired for the data cabling, but it's a onetoone replacement for the most part. Um there not a lot of design work to that. Um so that's the the team. There we go. um design summary and I apologize if I'm walking if I'm talking fast but I'm I feel like I'm repeating for some folks and just feel free to stop me. Um in the red are the categories. You may recall that um the
scope of work was broken down into five major categories. U infrastructure uh health and safety site work PD is another one we're going to get to uh and things of that nature. In the fold black are a written narrative of each individual scope item that came from that spreadsheet. You remember the the dreaded spreadsheet scope of work that we worked through for uh years. Actually, I was about to say months, but it was a very long time. So, I'm just going to breeze through the captions of each particular scope of work and not get into the weeds, not get into the leads. Excuse me. Um, and this is phase one that's in front of us here. uh included in the current project that I said we're about to put out for bids at the EJ
officer school. We have some exterior doors at the entry and specs for the old that have been determined to be in need of replacement in operating for safe under uh health and safety. Uh as well as um card access to a couple of uh exterior doors uh that uh are not currently on the system. So expanding that in the infrastructure category at the middle high school here we are replacing a a portion of the middle school roof that was not uh dealt with in the last capital project. Only a portion of that roof was uh so this picks up another 5200 square ft approximately. It's largely surrounding the um the gym lobby where you walk into the corridor. There's a toilet rooms to the to the right and then you go down the hallway and
the gyms on the left. that area of the building. Um, from a priority standpoint, that's what came out on top relative to roof replacements when we've been talking about the life cycle of all build roofs. Excuse [clears throat] me. Um the uh and forgive me for saying your post on your phone. >> Um then we have at the Kaki Elementary's uh building we are um replacing um or installing some mechanical equipment with an energy recovery ventilator in what's called or has been rec called the reset room down at the end of the corridor. Uh it currently doesn't have anything viable of that nature. Okay. U so we'll make it completely occupiable. Excuse me. Um the so I I would call that mechanically delayed at this point. Excuse me. Under site work I mentioned or [snorts]
reconstructing the middle middle school parking lot and main drive uh including uh uh removing and amending the subbase component of it. Improving some storm water discharge components uh catch basins. Fancy fancy words there. Um and then um heavy duty asphalt where the uh the main traffic route is for example and it goes extends for the entire back parking lot all the way out to the street to sunset. Um there's a couple of uh associated uh sidewalks and curbs replacement as part of that spoke as well too. Couple that have been deteriorated and I think there's one additional drop curb uh being installed for ADA compliance. [clears throat] Moving through um we're also um including uh storm water management as part of the uh the the capital improvements uh particularly along uh their drainage improvements basically.
Okay. Uh some ditch work out for sunset the uh uh undersized drainage piping. We know when we have flash floods the water doesn't have tend to dissipate the property very quickly. things of that nature. Things that Don has shared with us at previous presentations. Um the the path out to the other side of Coachi Elementary is being widened and repaved as well too with some bridge improvements along that uh path. The um playground uh on at Kataki Elementary is being refurbished by large. Um certain pieces are being retired, certain pieces are being added. There's an entire depth of conversation that we've gone through getting to that point. I will mention that we have retained the services of a a playground consultant specializing in playgrounds. Uh and that is a very indepth uh piece of work.
Uh Randy facilitated and sorry, Mr. Squire facilitated uh the the respective stakeholders involved in making those decisions. Um but there's a significant reboot on that playground to occur. There's also part of it a a portion of it in the corner that's going to remain uh as grass uh new grass uh for a place for see you brought in kick a ball around that kind of thing as well too. It's not going to be an entire corner to corner of the fenced area with uh a playground as you might think. There's going to be some green space to it. Excuse me. Um down at EJ Arthur there is um some uh minor uh components. Uh there are being uh upgraded uh a climbing structure and uh there's an area around a slide where the ground is
being treated to improve the fall protection around it. Uh in adjacent to that, the basketball court, we are replacing the basketball goals and we are also going to run it as a bid alternate to resurface the basketball court. um if um the uh the financial gods when we go to bid the uh uh project bless us, we'll be able to choose or elect to possibly repave that. Repaving that uh basketball court was not in the base scope of war uh when we when we authorize the provider. So, we're going to bid it as what's called the alternate excuse me phase two. Okay, phase two as uh I mentioned is currently in design where the schematic we just met divine design milestone. You're entering into design development which is the next stage where the thoughts and
the concepts captured here in this report are put into drawings and specifications and further developed for uh for refinement. They've uh has had same categories that they operate within. First up is health and safety here. Adding some card access to exterior doors. Um next being the academics and program which is a big part of the the phase two. And and it's this blank of work that helped identify why phase one was able to be hit the ground running pretty quickly and phase two takes quite a bit longer time to develop. So right off the bat in the academics part portion of it, one component of the project that's never not been important to the capital work is the uh renovation of the high school science rooms. Uh they're basically going to be a gut renovation.
Um going to talk about some of the moving parts to that when I get to the graphics just a little bit later here. Excuse me. Um there's a lot of support work that goes along with that for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work as well too. Okay. >> I want that too far. >> One more. >> There we go. Um, moving beyond the science room for just a moment. Why? I guess before I move on, uh, adding the air conditioning to the science rooms has always been on on the docket as well too. Uh it it's a a bit of a a strong component of the renovation, but it was important to everybody from day one. Excuse me. The uh athletics and physical education, there is no phase 2 scope associated with that category as elected
by the by the board. Um the infrastructure category includes uh improvements to various domestic water fighting uh valve replacement etc. that has been reported to being problematic over the years that this grew legs. Um, that's really still being defined as to where that is. Uh, talking to Scott Bennett and and his staff as to where there's problems with things that are leaking or deteriorating. Um, over the years they had contractors in here to replace small sections and in uh piping and valves that have failed or become leak problems. So, we're chasing that down as we get further into the process. Um, same thing at the I'm sorry, at the uh in the health and safety category that go back to the exterior doors. Um, there are uh one or two door openings, believe it or
not, in this building is still um are not lever sets and don't meet compliance uh as uh noted in the building condition survey. So, we're going to replace them out as part of the pride here. Um, additionally, we're reviewing the U building access control system, and there's a couple of doors that are in question as to whether they're going to be added to the the badge swake system [clears throat] in acade academics and program. Here we also capture that it's it's uh under program caveat there, the renovation of the CES kitchen. Uh, this is pretty in depth indepth. I mean, it's a full gut renovation of the of the space. So it involves not only architecture uh structure mechanical electrical plumbing for food service specialty components of it. It will include all new freezer cooler
walking the configuration. Um some of the um improvements that go along with that would be for example getting the compressors that run the coolers and freezers off the top of the units and up onto the roof. Um so um a lot of improvements rel to the ventilation of the exhaust lids over the uh the cooking apparatus as well too. Um the side of four classrooms at CES the the the classrooms are are going to be a full gut renovation uh and bring new life into them. uh some of the the uh graphics that you're going to see are going to suggest what we're uh proposing for uh the rooms. I'm going to add that and it's going to be a sister comment EJ Arthur as well too. Uh when we get to the end of
design development phase of the project, we are going to invite any members of the board that want to to our office in Albany where we're going to do virtual uh you know VR the glasses the walk through and see what the space looks like. It's a pretty cool thing to do. Um so we're going to open that up to you and welcome you to participate in that to get a more in-depth view of what it's going to look like because a lot of people can't visualize it when they see it on white and white paper. And then um we had a handful of uh of clides take us up on that uh and they've all walked away with a having a great experience. The uh this just goes on to say that the the support
work for the renovations include uh electrical upgrades, mechanical upgrades uh and can plumbing uh to support all of those growers. Uh it just finalizes with uh the athletics in fizzan category, obstructure category and the site category. There are no scope items in phase two relative to that. Um EJR, excuse me. So renovation of the kitchen was a large component uh through the programming process uh that uh Melissa was on point with meeting all stakeholders. It was determined uh in supported by the committee to concentrate the renovations uh the larger scale renovations at the Hooksaki Elementary Kitchen uh because of the the magnitude of issues here in the amount of serving that takes place cooking and serving that takes place out of this facility. It's supposed to do other smaller scales of facility. Excuse me. So
we it's we're not abandoning the entire process down there but it is going to receive some superficial renovations. uh including uh painting, flooring, um no new serving line. The existing serving line will remain um and just uh give it a fresh a fresh look. Uh possibly the ceiling maybe part of that as well too. Um but the the kitchen itself will stay intact as far as its configuration goes. >> When did this change? >> What what when did this change? >> This changed during the programming phase several weeks a couple months ago. >> Okay. contest, >> please. >> So, they met with the uh staff, kitchen staff, and and their main concern was the size of their freezers and then walking that they didn't have enough room and the only way to bid them in
budget in the project was to essentially take one at a time and could because of the immense impact on the kitchen, take one at a time. Uh and we decided that it cooks out to be that once there's more gear and they need more space in that kitchen. Um we didn't have room in the in the project of what we budgeted for uh to do both at the same time. >> So we took our funds from one place to the other >> level recommendation with the director. >> Yes. Yeah. And there are meeting minutes that support all of that and then have been distributed previously. Um if you don't have them, please seek them from Buen and you can reshare them as necessary. Um but I know Randy was on point with distrib distribution of
those at the time, but uh we have access to them if if anybody needs to access some call. >> Okay. [snorts] Um, oh uh dear wealth capture the same thing as I said it's a sister condition that uh the uh second floor classrooms at EJ Arthur are also scheduled to receive a belt renovation. Uh the only difference is there's nine rooms at one building and 11 rooms at the other. Uh otherwise the the approach is the same at both buildings. Again, the support work for that uh renovation is is laid out here in a long narrative. Uh basically uh elaborating on what I'm sharing right now. Uh and it just alpha captured that the other categories uh are are have been thought about and and are gotten many here is that nothing specific in in
this phase for the EJRE uh facility. Infrastructure wise same condition was replacing domestic water piping and valves. select for piping and valves at locations to be confirmed by the buildings and grounds uh the facilities record. Um and then uh as I mentioned a moment ago rewiring the technology cable in the EJ Arthur uh it uh when there was there was a technology project I'm thinking it was five years ago it was just before COVID actually so maybe six right um there was upgrades made throughout the district um but we know that the uh wiring itself was not as old there at the time and therefore was not upgraded at that time. But here we are now, 2025, 26, it'll be 2027 before we know it, and it's it's aging out. So, it's scheduled to be
rewired. So, so entrance the B. [clears throat] Um the five day garage out in the back of this facility, uh we are providing a small addition on on this end of the five bay garage uh for toilet toileting purposes. Uh it will include four toilets uh two ADA compliant toilets and two nonADA compliant toilets. And I have a sketch here that'll show you what that's starting to look like. Um and that is scheduled u to uh be able to be used throughout the year uh for the uh uh I would say up until you you you finish up at uh homecoming or shortly thereafter and then drained down shut down for the winter. Okay. But there, you know, building access may come into play as to whether you want to leave it accessible to walkers
who might use the track or something like that. That's a future discussion for you folks to have. I know that track gets a lot of a lot of people using it as as well as tennis boats. Oops. So, this is just to orient you as to where we are in this campus. Um off to the right is Katapi Elementary and off to the far left is the high school science bros. This by way of orientation uh bottom of the pave would be sunset on the in from the building. Um you can see that this identified the kitchen area as well as the uh what's in the phase one component that I mentioned a moment ago in the uh reset room and those on the the the three-sided rooms are on the left side. >> [clears
throat] >> at first floor. There we go. Same uh same dumbling on the second floor. This depicts the the blue highlighted and the uh second floor classrooms, the primary classrooms, all 11 of them. Uh full renovation of that area, the building. This is a little bit larger view of um this is concept. Now keep that in mind of the high school science rows. The objective here is capturing the elements, not necessarily the orientation of everything and in the final location of sinks, for example. But you I I point that out because what you'll notice here is that the built-in casework in sinks are around the perimeter of the rooms. The objective here is going to be [clears throat] um to facilitate these rooms with a lot of mobile furniture so they can be rearranged for
different functions and different curricula. Uh the upper portion of the page shows the existing floor plan to show you how it is built as it built and you can't change it. You know very little flexibility uh with the open floor plan as you see on the bottom allows for that level of flexibility for mobile furniture. Okay, here's just some more uh schematic level information. Uh on the left side of the page, you'll see a particular classroom. This one's called biology. It might not actually be biology, but you see in the lighter gray the tables and chairs. That's all mobile furniture. They can be moved around if you wanted it in a a cafeteria style, a barrack style, or individual table style like this. >> [clears throat] >> uh supported by the uh built-in casework for
storage uh tabletops, I'm sorry, uh countertops, uh insects around the perimeter of the room. The on the right side of the page are what we call elevations where if you're standing in the room looking at a given wall, we're going south, east or west, that might be what it looks like. the base cabinets, uh the storage cabinets, uh the uh the sliding lightboards of the a portion of the wall for instruction, uh interactive display, monitor, etc. Three a three-dimensional view of that if that helps. You find it does many kinds. Um and again it shows um the mobile furniture around the or of the room uh for flexibility and the built-in uh case work and supporting uh elements around the perimeter. Here we go. All back. Oh, this is chemistry. This is a different real
similar just uh we wanted to make sure that we were showing um elements that because they do differ. For example, in a chemistry room you have a fume hood that uh for experiments um they would come into play here. Um and some of the sink requirements are a little bit different between the two types of wells. Uh just throwing it in here to show that we do have different considerations for different spaces. That's really the the bottom line. Um the the inclusion here of all these elements are a result of meeting with all those stakeholders. You know most of that what we call the programming component of it meeting with uh the the staff and department heads uh influenced by uh uh administration as necessary. I know that facilitated those meetings as well too. Every
one of those programming efforts had their own set of meeting minutes that every needed to be read and and deformed if we need to capture gear. Something that you want. Now, excuse me. This is a typical concept for an elementary classroom. Uh similar theory here. It flexible furniture in the middle of the space is a key element. All right. uh the ability for the teacher to rearrange the room maybe at any given time for different functions with storage built in around the perimeters. Okay. Uh left side of the room is the plan view right or the page right side of the page is get elevations as we call it. They're standing in a room looking left right. Um these are remember these are schematic in nature. These are uh initial thoughts to show inclusion of
the various elements. The layouts of them are not defined specifically uh in in subject to further adults. Here's again a three-dimensional view of the same for these types of rooms. I [clears throat] will point out in addition to the flexible furniture and the teaching wall with writing surfaces uh and then the uh the casework on the other side above the casework on the image I like you'll see a large piece of duct work up here it says painted exposed metal duct work at this point in time anyway the theory is um that we're looking at a little bit more advanced uh heating ventilating uh system that will in include some potentially exposed duck work. It's it's it's liked disliked by people as opposed to included by uh sheetrock or painted ceiling. Uh so we're we're
exploring some elements like that. You see a lot of this kind of u style. Uh but the objective here is we need to get it uh mechanical air ventilation from the corridor side to the exterior walls. So there will be some dark works involved that uh may be seen and because it may be a feature. There's a lot of times where they get painted out a specific color particularly in primary level rooms. Here we have a plan view of the kitchen, [clears throat] excuse me, Kasaki Elementary. It simply uh includes the way out plan on the left side and a schedule of equipment on the right side. Um well point out here is on the point here currently here and here are double doors. Uh the staff felt that the serving line is better suited
with a single door allowing the serving line to move over a little bit and gain a little more square footage in this in the working area. So you'll still have this passage through the cafeteria by [clears throat] moving possibly the uh point of sale unit out here on a cart as necessary. Uh at the end of the line with the flow being this this direction. Um the stage is out here in the other space just for reference. This is the configur new configuration of the walk-in cooler freezer that has been uh desired by staff and uh and a list of all the new equipment here. It would be this would be the where the new cooking hood resides is ducting upward and outward [clears throat] just as a matter of reference. The thought of this
was dry compared to the FFA. >> Um this simply illustrates the uh where the kitchen area is within EJ Arthur its existing configuration and I mentioned the elements that we're going to be treating it with. >> [clears throat] >> This represents the second floor of the EJR third uh elementary room uh building uh representing the nine rooms that are scheduled for renovation similar to beside the element. And here's the uh five bay uh edition, the the color edition. Um it serves uh I mentioned two ADA compliant uh rooms and two standard rooms. Uh as well as maintaining access to the building, the existing mandor in the upper left corner uh and some janitorial services to me chase uh this area behind it. >> Miss Scott. Yeah. Um I don't know if this is a big
plate or not but all four bathrooms right are gender neutral. >> Yeah. >> Yep. >> Just so it's not one area too. >> Yeah. There there was discussion earlier on about men women's is hers. Uh your own urinals. Uh it's it's still open for discussion as necessary but the plan forward has been strictly general neutral gender gender neutral as you see it unless otherwise changed. This is a a threedimensional view of what that might look like. So the parking lot would be off to the lower right here as you see it and the budget. >> That's cool schedule. >> Okay. >> Um this is the overall project schedule that many of you have seen before. And just to recap real quick, we are in lot uh S line [clears throat] nine uh uh in phase
one for awaiting SED approval for the Jew has already been done. Uh we are planning for bidding. I'm going to update these dates in just a moment. Cory, it's phase one. Uh in phase two, we are down in around uh line 20 where we're asking for the owner acknowledgement owner's acknowledgement of this level of information. Here we are at the end of February already. [clears throat] >> Right. >> So then we enter into design development. >> Uh we do some additional cost estimate and move into construction documents themselves. That takes us out to a uh date uh or target date of Labor Day for submission to the state education department for their per review of permitting. Um the we go through parallel cost estimating uh effort during that same period of time. uh we we've
allowed um for uh the uh the permitting process to uh sit there for a couple of months. We currently see it about 8 weeks time. That can change depending on the flow of work at the state aviation department. Uh which would hopefully make it ready for bid the end of the calendar year then awarding contracts and entering into following year for construction. So, [clears throat] that is where we're at. I'm going to go back to just update quickly. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Sweeney the other day. We talked about firming up our dates based on my my gut feeling of where we're at with the state approval. And right now, we are looking at making the bid documents for phase one available on March 9. Receive bids on the 31st. that would be
uh that would allow us enough time to vet those um results and be in time for information or be in time for your standing board meeting in April which I believe is the 16th if that if that stands if that holds right. Um are there any questions relative to that timeline? >> Well, let me hypothetical >> hypothetical >> because we started this this process over years ago in planning etc. >> Sure. So our needs tend to change sometimes or could in the future if if for anything in phase two if there was some component of that y >> that we felt had to be downsized to some degree in is the dating here to make any changes related to that >> um right before the bidding goes out. Is that is that a >> So
my generic answer is going to be we don't even know what scope you might be considering. >> It's only [clears throat] the hypothetical, >> right? No, but this is a real answer. Even though it's hypothetical, even though the question is hypothetical, I would encourage the group to continue forward with all of the design and permitting to stay at ED. If you wanted to pull something off the table and not bid it, that's fine. You can do that later. If you want to change something to do this instead of what has been approved by the voters, that's a different conversation because it still has to fall within the confines of what the voters authorized. >> Okay? If you're changing something, right, aiding direction of something that we would need to know earlier on. Okay? And in
certain circles, that might mean uh another authorization by the voters to change course, especially if there were dollars involved. Um, from our standpoint, we have our marching orders, right? Uh, my advice to you is to get it through permitting. You can always table, whatever that may be. Um, does that answer the question? Yes, it does. Okay. >> You're going to keep me guessing, but that's okay. Sam, you had a question for CSR about looking at design elements or schematics or specs. Don't have a concern about looking at that. I think they read out a little bit late because we're gonna we're gonna be putting plans out here in the next the night or March >> for phase one. >> Yeah, for phase one. >> Yeah. Do you want to see them, review them? Maybe. >>
I You're welcome to. >> Yeah. I mean, if you have something I mean, one curiosity I had is that just looking at this for the first time. >> Yep. >> At the science classrooms. Um, is it cheaper to put plumbing on the interior walls versus an exterior wall? Is there a basement below it? Do we move the sinks to the side? is what kind of cost savings are there for things like that? That's where my head is looking [clears throat] at these. I don't know who looks at that and kind of >> so I would say that >> right that's just >> that's at the at the end of by the time we approach the end of design development would be the appropriate time to ask those questions. Yeah. >> Because we're going to be
>> cost estimating what's what the plan has been right and see if where we're our trajectory is. >> Yeah. uh and it'd be the appropriate time to say, "Hey, is it more cost effective to do this instead of this?" And that's fine. Um >> did Atlantic testing take uh cores out here? >> Yes. >> So we know what we're doing with the clay below. >> Yes. Actually, actually it was Terracon uh who did the geotechnical evaluation course that was already done. Okay. They were able to drill the site for us before the phase one documents were finalized. >> Okay. >> Um that has been taken into crown. That's that's a great question. I don't often get that. I know why I'm getting it, but that's a different story. Um, so we had existing knowledge, um,
but didn't need to augment. And we had, I believe it six or eight additional uh, drills bored to confirm, um, for example, to know whether we had good, better, or best or garbage substrate under a parking lot, right? We did all these parking lots, we encountered all kinds of junk, right? So it gives us a better anticipation of what to uncover. The bubbles aren't um that that's dark. Uh that's in the the the work the LA group put together in the in the plans. Um I will note though it's it's a basic full depth reconstruction. >> Yeah. >> Um in order we've seen what's happening here without clay in and how it was built. >> Um improving the the drainage both uh surface and subsoil drainage is only going to enhance that. You know, we're
going to do as much as we can. We know that this property is uh >> it has a lot of perched water to it. >> It's a deep boy. >> Uh and we've encountered war no matter what we've done on this property over the years. Uh so we have a little inside edge going into it. That's uh to help aid us in the planning part of it. The building components, those are all are very I I know I swung the pendulum here on you. The building components, it's fine to question them considered X, Y, or Z. Um I would like to say let us get through um a little bit further level of the design development portion of it. And what we'll do is what's called a page turf. We'll sit with you. We'll plan
an evening. We'll sit and we'll go through it page by page uh what it includes and say here you go think about it think of questions any think of anything you may want to ask after we walk out of the room we'll go through a process um you know we have some folks who say hey you're the architects do it never ask a question we have others that are feedback layers in the onion and find out what we're thinking as a as a group right and that's fine we welcome it we want you to be more engaged uh as a stakeholder it's >> [clears throat] >> Did I answer it? >> Um, any other questions? >> I said a lot in short periods. >> Just remind me the uh where the entrance is to the
our sports fields, the driveway. >> Yep. >> Um on that side of the grill softball field, is there going to be a a a sidewalk? Yep. >> On that side, >> it's going to connect from where the village left off, >> right? up that side to where the crosswalk is. >> Okay. >> Where the in these randomly the other crosswalks which are basically in the middle of the two parking lights. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Can't get that over there. Read that. >> All right. So, I'm trying to think of the distance between where we end and where the first parking lot is on that side. >> Um it's pretty close to it. >> It's pretty close to it. >> Yeah. cuz it that first parking area starts up above corner of the building. >> Yeah.
Yeah. If I know we had a history in that area of potholes. >> Yeah. >> Um because >> that whole area is being dug out. >> Cars tend to go too far to the left. >> Yeah. In fact, in this narrative, you'll see it'll say there's one liner and it says remove a small gravel patch area deteriorated of it's a more it's a format that new uh boundary of the of the asphalt that you hopefully the sidewalk will keep that retaining area. >> Yeah, Scott's going to go far over there if it goes far enough is my question. >> There's also an electrical vault in the ground over there so we're aware of that. Um, snow removal processes are probably going to catch change bets, >> right? >> Anything else? >> We intend to report
be we want to be back in front of you again at the end of end of design development anyways report out on where our budget is targeting, where it's going. Um, we have a a third party independent uh estimator that'll look at that as well too and help give us guidance whether we're heading in the right direction or whether we have to make any considerations of of modifying any of the scope. So you are on our calendar. I know that. So just so clear. So Sam, was there something that you were interested or is there is there a point of uh contact with some of the questions that Sam was asking could be at that point that I just described and what then would that >> that is scheduled to happen around >> Okay. So
then you'll let us know. >> Yeah. As we get closer we'll we'll pin it down. >> Okay. [clears throat] because we don't want to come to the table without information uh and want want to make sure that it's beneficial for everybody involved. Uh and we can plan an additional page turn session independent of the rest of the group if that's what's desired. You know, to to help digest the information and I know you know you you don't want to listen to me go on for 90 minutes like this. You know, those who are interested in the detail be interested. Those who aren't, trust the others. details well introdu all that but I like I was just like kind of looking along and I saw in the chemistry classroom specifically uh with the counters that go
around and I'm like I don't know cuz I I couldn't see it but I like it's claimed to have been like uh the safety shower and like I wash Oh, see in case like I know >> I can't I don't know the event there. >> Uh it might it get me there. >> Did he eat those at least? No. >> Is that why you're asking? >> I don't know. >> Yeah. Well, I just I'm sure all like the fire and all that, but I don't I just >> didn't get point out. So, I wonder he uh >> his grandmother was a chemistry. Yeah, you're right about requirements. Um there there is eyewash and and shower requirements, right? >> Um as well as fire blanket requirements. >> Uh certain safety shows for their guest parents going
on, right? They have electric and things like that. >> Keep going if you may. >> You go. So right here on the there I'm pointing at the wrong screen. Sorry. >> Yeah. Oh yeah. I'm going to stand up on it. >> But yeah, that's what for example the safety shell is there, >> right? >> And again, this is schematic level. Let me just explain that a little bit. This is concept. Okay. >> This is to make sure that we're Oh yeah, we need to hear all the chairs. Let's make sure they're there. Well, we need sync. Let's make sure they're there. Where they are specifically is yet to be defined. Okay, they give it. Okay. Um, and then design development is the next stage where you take all those theories, those thoughts and that level
of information, you start putting in into plans, blueprints. >> Okay, that's very interesting. Thank you. >> So, yeah. Where the did the kids? No, I said the tricks and we go to customer. >> Oh, okay. That's fine. It becomes more interactive and interesting for me, too. >> All righty. Have a good evening. Thank you. >> Oh my god. Apologies. I'm not using a uh digital presentation. I know that that's something you're kind of used to. Um, couple of things. I just wanted to I just wanted to let you know that um I've really been touched by the reception I've received by the school community and everything. And yes, I did bring the chocolate donuts the first day the district office, they were destroyed. Um, and um, I did add a coffee maker into the district
office so that my my problem with caffeine can continue. Um, it's been great meeting everybody. Um, it's been great meeting kids and saying hello and they're like and I love I love it. I'm about five feet away. Who that who was that? You know, so but it's been great being able to get around. I've been getting a lot of steps in. I have to say with all the schools I've been at, this is one of the most interestingly designed school buildings I've ever seen in my life. Um, I'm pretty good about not getting turned around. I have not achieved that yet, by the way, in this school building. Um, it's it's it's particularly difficult because I try to go a different pathway every morning so I could, you know, maybe encounter somebody different or whatever.
Uh, compliments to whoever designed the high school cafeteria. Um, a design that I brought to one of my schools was to have varied furniture and everything else cuz they said high schoolers hate anything that is absolutely regimented. So if you walked into, you know, if they walk into a room and every long table's in there, within about 10 minutes, if no one's looking, it'll be all rearranged anyway. So I like the fact the way that that's set up. That's been great. Um, as you mentioned before, the campus is going to be incredibly busy Saturday and I thank uh my administrators and everybody else. So they were bringing me in together how they plan. will be will be present from literally 5:30 in the morning until 8:00 at night with sectional games. Um I am a
recovering parent of an OMR. Um no, I'm just kidding. But my daughter did was an R and did that over at Hunter Tannerville and had the good fortune of actually competing at world uh at one point. So I truly appreciate the program itself. It is um an incredible program if you're not aware of it. It combines um I call it thesbian engineers you know basically because there it's there's an acting component to it there is a problem solving engineering component to it and there's a lot of critical thinking as you you rightly stated with that incredible program incredible people there um we did run into one bump because we had the good fortune of having our girls seated seated so highly at sectionals and hosting a came. At first they were going to do a
uh they the people with uh obviously the mind said they were going to do a virtual um award ceremony that went over like um lead weight um and many emails and conversations later we brainstormed as the mers would to a solution. We're going to be doing a rolling awards ceremony starting at about 4:15 in our auditorium and we thank our drama club for working with us with that space and they'll be doing awards ceremonies uh rolling award ceremonies and they feel that we should be out at the required time so that section 2 could come in. It's not so much having those people there, it's that your parking lot is going to explode. Okay, you've got not one Boseies but two Boseies worth of of coming in here and bring a lot of people and
stuff. Okay, the stuff alone is incredible. They'll start it they'll they'll start their um parade Friday. So that's why we called off on office hours so we get as minimal traffic as possible to get everything going. And you know, Ted Ted is is just an incredible individual and resource for you guys. Um, I'm really happy he decided not to retire before I left. So, thank you, Ted. Um, and in, uh, troubleshooting everything that's going on. We're going to be meeting, we've met about three times so far. Um, Scott, unfortunately, is is a little busy with some family matters, so we've been uh picking up on that a little bit, which is great. Uh, shout out obviously to our girls basketball team, our boys basketball team for playing in sectionals, the bowling team because they do
their sections. I'm a former bowling coach in section two, so I I remember going to the house for that. Um, and of course, um, Mr. Kasa, a wrestler who who's actually on his way. I don't know if the preliminary I think the weigh-ins were today and and the preliminary will probably start tomorrow is my guess. Um, good luck to to all those people for it. Um we met with the mayor and the police to talk about the uh the unique traffic issues that we have. Um we collectively [snorts] decided that we will go out and it's already started with the elementary parents to reiterate they have to follow the system. The parking lot will be closed to them until 2:20. I've talked to Ted. We're putting barricades out about 1:30 out there and with an
alternative sign say if you really need to be here early, you can use the other parking lot. Uh there's a community parking lot they can use if they feel the need to have their cup of coffee and wait an hour before they actually have to be here. Um we plan to utilize the SRO to assist with us. I'll be out there too on Monday um encouraging our early birds that there is no worm to be got. um that they need to get out. It'll be interesting to see if they play gender with everything, but we'll do what we can with that. Um the mayor seemed pleased with the result of our efforts and the same with the police. We did time it today. There was only about a fiveminute um backup. So perhaps perhaps with
the renewed sense that they should be doing something and our efforts to actually make sure it's enforced will happen. Um it's budget season. I want to thank all the administrators. I've been getting to know them. Uh they've been troubleshooting with me trying to get things doing. Um we have quite a task. Um we're not unique like, you know, we're not unique. Every other school district's doing the same thing. We've had a federal, you know, a federal uh monies that no longer are here. So, we have that cliff. um fail uh is you know the um safe haven that we used to have with you know you couldn't be getting less than what you used to that's being eroded away. So we have challenges that we're going to have to meet. I'm sure you know we'll
talk a little bit more about that. Um the uh you know our school our school takes pride on our students accomplishments and I see that everywhere. Um, and being an outsider literally because the only place I ever hung out with was a track. But being an outsider literally, it's really impressive to see the young men and women in this school throughout. I've been trying to get over to I get I've gotten over to Athens almost every day I've been here too. Um, you know, watching them, you know, create their sliding hill really made me itchy to test out my my re uh replacement knee to see if I could do it. Um, I was awkward, but I I chose not to. Um, but seriously, watching the young men and women here and the energy that
I feel within the building, throughout the building, no matter where I'm lost, is uh has really been impressive. Impressive indeed. So, I thank you and I thank you for the opportunity of having me with you. Also, any question? I'll be happy to answer any questions. We did the mayor indicate if if he could have his day officer >> uh be here >> in the morning or afternoon on on some basis to help with traffic control. >> Okay. Um how am I going to answer this? The short answer is we can ask. Um >> it was something you did today. >> Yes. And we did ask and we did ask. What they said was they couldn't guarantee that they could be here all the time. >> Um, >> and I understand. >> Yeah. >> But I
guess I just don't know why they couldn't be here a little more often is is what what I have trouble with. >> Yeah. And I completely understand what you're saying. So, we did request for it. Um, they just weren't sure if that was something they could deliver on all the time. Um Ted did uh assure the mayor he said because he was concerned about the cars there and stuff and emergency vehicles getting through and Ted said no the emergency vehicles could get through even when it's it it's not the prettiest thing in the world but we're not clogged up so much that that could not actually happen and and get you know appropriate you know stated too we're really talking about maybe a 10-minute window where it's really you know crucial but If we can
get parents better trained, if we can, you know, get them to to show up, it moves pretty quickly. The problem we have at the early birds that that park themselves out there so early and then everything just bats up from there. If we can get them to actually show up, you know, at 2:20 or later when they're supposed to, it will move quickly. The morning is smooth. You know, I haven't noticed anything in the morning being difficult at all. So, say, >> thank you for sharing. I'll see you on Saturday. I have not gotten any update on the uh um my daughter's lung problem at 140 and we were told that it was remote for the >> all the coaches and all the the point of contact people received uh communication yesterday of what that
would be. So at least that's what it was. Okay. >> Here that in fact. >> All right. Go. Right. Are they still the raccoon that they use as the >> Yeah. Still a raccoon, right? I never understood that part of it. [laughter] >> You're welcome. >> Anybody else? >> Thank you everybody. Appreciate it. to the cafeteria revamp, but I can show maybe a couple slides real quick. >> I won't go through it. Maybe if we go on to let's see this slide here. So, the idea is just making uh having students be empowered and have students leading the change within the school. Um we're working with the business teacher, we're working with the um agriculture teacher, we're working with our technology teacher and this is how we're doing it. Um students have already come together
and we're doing different groups coming up with ideas and the the first step is creating the ideas. Uh reaching out to businesses, writing letters, we might pound the pavement. That's my past experience as a as a business banker where I pound the pavement and go and talk to businesses to like get business. So, I said we could do that. So, we're super excited um to have these partnerships. Our quest students could help build things as well. So, we really want to integrate everybody as a team. Can we go to the next slide? These are some ideas that students came up with. Again, I'm just a facilitator. It's all student led. They came up with having a chill corner with flexible seating. Possibly having a foosball table, um, a pool table that we talked about that
actually we could put into a science room and connect it to physics. Uh, which would be neat. That's a different idea. Um, maybe having a a TV that they could watch uh the Olympics, for example, or something educational. >> Oo TV. >> What's that? >> No, nothing. Go ahead. >> Um, and then have outdoor seating. uh you know the two doors that open out where the dumpsters are. We got approval where we can move that and then build a patio area where the students would design it and help build it. Also talking about doing um what is it called? Uh potted plants maybe on the wall like there's whatever they want to do but they're leading it. Can we go to the next slide? They created this um with the business teacher of a layout.
Um so you can see some of their ideas. This isn't finalized but you know they came up with oh can we make a cornhole? Can we build a gazebo? Like students are learning so much. Let's put it together. Let's make the school the best that we can. We know that cell phones are no longer an option. So, this idea came from actually parent communication with a student who's using the cell phone. And the mom said, "He really is bored during lunchtime." And I said, "Well, what do you think we should do?" And so, we started talking about it and I said, "Would you be willing to help us with this?" And she said, "Yeah." And she she got her kids on board and like it hopefully will become a community thing. So, we're in the
very beginning of this stage, but we are excited about it. If you want to go to the last slide. Um, if we connect this with our Riverhawks, how does this go with Riverhawks? Right. So, we have a shared space built off respect, inclusivity where everyone can be a part of it. It's vibrant. Kids want to socialize. We don't have phones. They want to do things. So, let's give them the opportunity to do so. um student ownership, so respecting property, working together, taking care of the things that they have designed and put together, having leadership for students, welcoming community partnerships, and then building a strong positive uh school culture. So, the last slide is just some ideas that they had. They picked out some materials and there's some ideas that they put together that we're compiling
and then eventually we will design it. Not sure if we'll get it done this year, but we're starting and it will be a project led by students. So, that is one update for you.
