the uh >> yes, I checked in with him. He's ready to go. >> Everybody ready? Okay. >> Okay. >> EDSC school board of trustees meeting of Monday, April 6th. At this time, I would ask for roll call, please. >> We have a full board present. >> Thank you. As is a custom, I would ask you all to stand and join us in the pledge of allegiance, please. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Next, we have uh good news, Jason Whoopenberg. Good evening. >> Thank you very much, President Dutworth, Superintendent Hoover, members of the board. Once again, we have lots of good news to share in the EBSC since we
were last together. So, uh, Vice President Moore, you had actually lifted this at the end of our last meeting um, about the Bossy Priettes and Bossy hadn't put a picture out yet and about a day or two later, they had that. So, we were able to share that on social media. But, in case you've forgotten about that, huge congratulations to them. What an accomplishment. They've worked so hard. They actually won the championship in their division. I believe it was over in Louisville, Kentucky. Um, and you can see uh from the students on the right, a lot of pride uh in that. So, congratulations to them and to Mossi High School. Uh, Evans School change makers. This was really an exciting thing to be a part of. I had the honor of going and seeing this.
We had media coverage from this as well. But, uh, this is part of the change maker process. It really does provide student ownership. They're involved really every step of the way. Um, and that picture showing them working on landscaping projects around the school. It was a beautiful day the day they did this. Believe it was right before the day before spring break. It was a great time for students to be a part of this and they had literally things going on all day long in the school. But I mean, these students took ownership. They were really into this and taking a lot of pride in it. Uh, and it turned out great, too. It really did look nice when they were done. So, congratulations to all of the students uh, and the staff at Evans
for that. Uh more congratulations are in order. Once again, we have such great fine arts programs across the board, certainly at North High School. Um their percussion team, which is part of course of their larger uh marching band of the Green Brigade, but their percussion team uh won their division in Indiana for the state percussion championship. So that's actually a competition with some large high schools all across the state of Indiana. And so for them to win that, that was quite an accomplishment. Then they got to perform for the entire student body. Uh we had media coverage on this also the other day. But great success for North and very proud of those students. Also very proud. We always do well with Evans or leadership everyone's celebration of leadership awards. That big communitywide event was
held just a couple of weeks ago. Uh and we had two winners associated with the EBSC. Uh Christine Lararsis uh is the beauty teacher at Scott Elementary School. Uh she won the leadership everyone CO award and the bossy instrumental boosters also won. Uh so really proud of those individuals representing the EBSC in our community. We did a what's happening with Dr. Hoover. This was on um EBSC summer musical company. And once again, as I always say, I won't say much about that because you're going to hear from a couple of individuals that you hear in just a few minutes about that. But it was great to be a part of that. I know Dr. Hoover, you enjoy being there. Um, and I always say this when you there's nothing better when you do a video
when you talk to theater kids. I mean, they just love talking about it. Their passion, their excitement, it's really inspiring. So, that was that was a great episode to be able to do. Uh, and last but not least, congrats to the New Techch Institute robotics team. They always have great success and have really built a tradition there. Um, and congrats are in order to them again. They won the district competition this weekend up in Washington and that qualifies them for the state competition here in two weeks. And um they actually had this was sad just recently their coach who's a parent actually passed away and uh certainly sad for the school, sad for the team, but they kind of rallied together talking to principal Chris Gibson and and really came together in his honor and
it did not stop them from being successful in this competition. So very proud of New Techch and President Duckworth. That is it for good news. >> Thanks having him at EVSC. Thank you very much. Moving right along, we will go into 2.01 public comment. Mr. Shoulders, are you uh >> I'll be happy to try to do my bestation of shoulders. And as he would say, what does he normally say? Two minutes with Larry. So Larry is here with us again this evening. South. Larry, if you come forward, >> let's not be a trackmate going on today. >> No, we got Kuanas awards tonight. >> Okay. >> Maybe talk about leadership next time. A lot of nominations from EBSC on in that leadership program. A lot of people got nominated. Did win the award, but a
lot of nominations. Uh I'm a member of the Evans Aquinus Club. Each year we have eight banquetss at the Career and Tech Center. We honor student athletes. We honor talented musical students, uh outstanding academic students, uh the career and tech program to pick a winner out of each one of those each year. Uh the teams that we the sports we might miss, the Green River Aquanis, that's an East Side Evo Aquanas. They they pick up they have some banquetss also. Uh Quantis Focus is is youth. Uh March 4th at career in tech. We had winter sports, boy and girl basketball, boy and girl swimming and diving, boy and girl wrestling. First time we've had the girl wrestling. Uh the format is we invite the student, we invite the parents, we invite the coach, and we
invite a school administrator. So there's over 100 people at the career and tech center. And these bios are just outstanding. I mean these kids, they they make outstanding grades. They play two or three sports. They're involved in clubs at school. They're involved in activities outside of school. Ken Wimpy, our MC, former EVSC administrator, his favorite line is after he reads one of those bios. He says, "And when do you sleep?" Uh, over 100 people there. It's a great venue, great food, great uh publicity for the EVSC at career ticket. Uh, that room out there is excellent. Lots of room. The food's good. They do all the work. uh and the students uh for the athletic awards the student the uh teammates vote on that for a quantis award we're not looking in the athletics we're
not looking for the best person we're looking for the most well-rounded or the kind of the glue that holds the teams together attitudes effort did they listen to coach uh and also finally on March 18th we had the academic awards and a familiar name for board members is Fritz out North High School, a young man named Addison Fritz. That's Steve Fritz's grandson. Steve was at that award meeting. So, uh, lots of good news in those programs. Very uplifting. >> Thank you, Larry. Appreciate your time. What you do? >> All right. Any other public comment moving forward? Consent items. Dr. Who? >> Yes. Good evening, President Dworth, members of the board of school trustees. These consent items are presented for your approval. >> We have a motion and a second. Any further discussion? >> Hearing none, all those in favor of Diesel signify by saying I. >> I. Opposed. >> Motion carries. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Next on the agenda, personnel recommendations. Michelle Williams. Good evening. >> Good evening, President Duckworth, members of the board, Dr. Hoover. Tonight's personnel recommendations include the following: retirement, resignations, end of adjunct assignments, termination, regular appointments, administrative transfers, position reassignment, temporary appointment, leave of absence, resignations from extraduty, appointment to extraduty, after school appointment, and consideration of the administrative appointment of Seth Wolf, head girls soccer coach at Central High
School. These recommendations are presented for your approval. So move. >> Second. a motion and a second on the personnel recommendations. Any questions or comments? >> I do have a question. Uh, President Duckworth. Good evening, Miss Michelle. The question that I have, I know on the personal recommendations, and I apologize. I should have I had it up and I exited. Under administrative transfers, uh, we see a very familiar name. At least I know I principal at Greenwood Middle School. if she's listening to this. >> Um, thank you for everything that you do. You all know her as Principal Oliver. I still call her Coach Oliver. She had my daughter and, uh, she was absolutely a blessing to her in that time. But the question that I have is how are we going to ensure that the
next principal of Glenwood is not only going to reflect the same heartbeat, the relational leadership because they had such a strong connection with community and the families um, that currently exists. so that the school does not lose the momentum during the transition and like it's more than a resume, right? And the education and all those things. So, what are we going to do to ensure that none of the families, none of the community partnerships loses that momentum, though I know it's during the summer summer break and before the kids come back to school. So, the good news, I'm thrilled for Angie and really this position is is a real need that we have. So, I'm really excited for her to lend her expertise to helping uh in this role, but the Glenwood position is also
extremely important. And so, I think that's the advantage we have is that she's not leaving. And so, uh Angie and I have already had discussions about what are the important buckets of work that have to remain, what's important um in characteristics that the new leader has to have, and she'll help navigate those uh partnerships. There's a couple of really big partners for Glennwood. Um just making sure that we're connecting those people, but we'll do a thorough interview process for that with Angie helping to craft uh that process with us. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Thank you. Thank you very much. >> Good question. >> Thank you. >> Any other comments or questions? >> Excuse me. >> In regards to personnel recommendations, all those in favor do so signify by saying I. I >> opposed.
That carries. Thank you. Next on the agenda is the district spotlight. Dr. Hoover. >> So, I am very excited tonight to have two people with us to share uh about the EVSC summer musical company. We have Dwight Emert, our director of fine arts, and Joselyn Rogers, who is a junior at North High School. >> Dr. Hoover, President Duckworth, and members of the school board. Thanks for having me to talk about one of my favorite topics which is the EVSC summer musical company and from the fine arts perspective is also the most public facing endeavor we we do. Um so obviously we know it's very important. This is our 38th version and and we are starting it with a renewed commitment to the education of our students and the best possible show for the audience. For
many years, we've been studying the summer musical experience with a desire to bring a cyclical process to the effort similar to our other district honors programs. Simply stated, we want the students to own the knowledge, be able to apply the skills in new ways, uh go back to their schools and help the schools improve, grow with their schools, and then eventually return to the summer process stronger in their new set of abilities. and and you know and uh uh performance and so and then of course then we want the cycle to to continue and start again each year where we are both you know the summer musical is is pushing the theaters uh school theaters forward and so forth and so on. Um to create this uh we continually return to the students as actors,
singers, dancers, musicians, and performers as the center of the work. While scenery, lighting, costumeuming, and sound all help bring the magic to the musical, these aspects are generally brought to life by the adults. So making them complimentary to the student work is key. The immersive weekend camps are adding over 40 additional hours to our calendar and build additional knowledge, skill, and camaraderie. in the process. The two-week intensive brings an important urgency to the work and learning, removing the lag and momentum the transition to the center created for us. You'll find the energy will be unmistakable. Students will be exhausted after this process, but the learning will be ingrained. They will have a deeper understanding of themselves. They will own it and the success will be theirs. They will be changed forever. Joseline. >> Um the
twoe uh intensive, we call it a summer stock. It's a very exciting opportunity. Um we're able to put together the show really quickly, keep it on its feet. But um these weekend rehearsals we've had have been a really great opportunity to kind of prep our skills for that and also teach us those foundational things that we need for the show and also to take back to our own schools. Um yeah, it's been great. Couple questions. Do you feel like this is going to better prepare the theater student for possible future theater involvement in college or civic work and that kind of thing? >> Yes. Because the the intense I I realize, you know, we take six weeks, we crush it down into two, but that's them doing more each day. Um, and this is very
similar to a lot of different uh, like I I I run a summer performance group that does this, you know, really intensive work. A lot of times if we work on something on a Monday and then we don't get to it till the following Monday, a lot of those details have gone. So to that urgency that that students have to have to we we've got a show next week and we've got to do that and really be attentive to all those details as it's being taught. uh is it will be will be again it'll be life-changing for them. >> How have your numbers been? >> Uh we actually have more uh high school students enrolled. Uh the uh the orchestra numbers will be less only because the orchestra only calls for 25. So last year
I think that orchestra called for 34. So that you know you swim, right? >> Correct. Yeah. So, um, but overall all that's been, uh, you know, I will, uh, Miss Ball and I, we we had a little communication problem, uh, last week. We thought we had sent some stuff out to the musicians and we had a, they found out on Tuesday we were going to have our makeup rehearsal on Wednesday night and still 17 students made it to that rehearsal. That's how excited they are. And I think Dr. Hoover was pretty impressed even our first sounded great already for sure. Any questions? >> Best wishes, good luck, break a leg, and all that good stuff. So, >> all right. Thank you. >> Next that moves us to action items and 6.01, consideration to adopt policy
0223340, child abuse and and neglect. Mr. Cameron, good evening. >> Good evening, President Duckwarts. Dr. Tonight's action item 6.01. Uh, in accordance with Indiana School Board Association's quarterly comprehensive management system, the Office of Chief of Staff recommends the adoption of ISBA policy 3340, which replaces current policy 6462. >> Have a motion approval. >> Second. >> Have a motion and a second. Any questions or concerns? Hearing none. All those in favor do so signify by saying I. I. >> I. Opposed. >> Thank you. Next is an information item consideration for the entire policies 4113.02 school choice options provided by 95 left behind act and 5610 evaluation of the instructional program. >> Cameron back. for your information. In accordance with ISBA legal counsel and as part of the corporation's ongoing policy review and cleanup, the office of
the chief of staff recommends that the board retire policies 4113.02 and 5610 respectively. The first implemented provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act, which has been superseded by the Every Student Succeeds Act, and the second, 5610, reflects an outdated program evaluation and accountability framework. Neither policy is required under current state or federal law. Be happy to answer any questions you do have about that tonight. We'll bring that back for your action at the next board meeting. Any questions at this time for Mr. Cameron? >> Okay. >> Thank you, sir. >> Thank you. >> Just a second. Right. Yes. Uh got a question. >> Mr. Cameron, I apologize. Good evening. I do have a question. >> Uh with everything now on social media, i.e. especially Tik Tok, um you see a lot of videos, not
particularly in this area, right? or even with any families with EBSC, but I've seen a lot of videos where parents have went to schools and they're recording um you know disciplining their children. Have you seen I guess maybe an an increase in num I don't want to say in numbers but have you seen maybe an increase um trying to think of the right word because I know I stated it hasn't been here but I've seen like I stated I've seen videos of children being disciplined in other school areas different states have you've had any phone I should say have you had any phone calls regarding hey I've seen student B who goes to a local school here in town and mom or dad or someone has disciplined the child and >> I really have not
>> I don't know that those calls would come directly to our office, >> but I see Dr. Hoover shaking her head that she has not had >> and I should say not not cutting you off um especially if it happens on school grounds, right? And again, it's just different videos from different states that I've seen where this has taken place and people are just, you know, they're videoing. And of course, social media is like, yeah, >> the official news of of everyone's >> Yeah. And since you mentioned that, I have noticed too local some local media outlets that are grabbing news that is specific to school corporations in other states. Uh but the headline or the it tagline you got to click on it to find out oh that's not Evansville or that's not Indiana.
>> Uh but I have seen a lot of that and I don't know if it's trying to drum up. People are interested in what happens in a school corporation and especially if something goes wrong uh they want to know about it so that they can take appropriate action. But I think that's what uh uh Jason calls uh clickbait. >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you. >> Yes. >> Okay. What is this to uh continued business? Dr. board members. >> I'll start. So um spring is in full swing, right? We get back from spring break and I think we're seven weeks now here. So it becomes, you know, the high school person in me, it feels like a march to commencement, which is such an exciting time um for all educators and students and families.
Uh spring sports are underway. Um we'll we'll be in testing season in large part for uh in our buildings. And so um an important time, but also this is such a fun time at the end of the year. Three of our schools have been invited to go this week to um Indianapolis to celebrate having reached the 95% on their iid. It's Oakill Scott and McCutchenville will go up. Yeah. Wonderful. Um and hopefully we'll have more schools next year. Uh UV educator of the year um announcements will happen uh very soon, but even seeing the articles in the paper, we had 10 of the 12 nominations. And so really proud of our uh educators that were nominated for those awards. We have so many people very deserving. And uh kindergarten open houses are also happening right
now for the next two weeks. There will be a lot of those rounding up little people to be with us next year. So an exciting time. >> Um just real briefly um you mentioned spring sports. Um, and I'll ask Steve Sheller to comment if he wants to, but we have new lights at Washington Middle School for the Bossy baseball and softball programs, and I'm bet they're excited about those. In addition, uh, work I think continues at Rice Bowl and um, Enlow Field and uh, I'm sure they're trying to get what they can get done by graduation. It may work out and it may not, and that's okay. We'll we'll make that arrangements. But uh those are exciting things for our facilities and it it shows a a dedication to making sure that our students and
our public that visit our school have quality facilities to to visit and to see and that our kids have the the best that we can provide to them. Any other comments or >> Yes, sir. >> I do have some. Um, as everyone knows or a lot of folks know, uh, the PTAs have been, um, very busy in the past 20 months giving away books, um, and learning toys. Last week, we hit a a monumental mark. Um, we hit the $300,000 mark. In the past 20 months, we've given away $300,000 in learning toys and books. This week with the kinderg kindergarten roundup at Stockwell, we have given away a grand total of 36,11645 worth of books and toys for children. Um, thank you to all the PTAs, uh, especially area council PTA. Um, and a big
shout out to Dr. Hoover since you've taken over. you we had a one-hour meeting, I think it was, and you were only there for half an hour. You just said, "Here's here's what we got." And since then, and that was at the very beginning. Since then, it has just flown so smoothly. And you have a couple pit bulls. Kim McWills and Dr. Owen are awesome. Those two, I mean, we we work so great together. And those guys are doing such a good job. I really do appreciate everything you guys do. Um, and to see the kids get these books. Um, they get so excited and I've heard countless stories about um, how their kids love reading. It just turns a it turns a page. Sorry for the button, but it turns a page in their
life and they they really all of a sudden start loving it. Um, thank you for all that everybody does. It's been a a wild ride and we're still on it. We're still giving them away. I really do appreciate it. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you. Anything else? >> I will say regarding the lights, they look amazing. They >> do, don't they? >> They look absolutely amazing. I ride past there every night and very bright. >> They are very bright. >> Very bright. Very nice. >> Cut off. Supposed to cut off so it doesn't bother the neighbors. And it just it's it's very pleasing to see safety >> in that in that light. No pun intended. Right. If you will, but they look good. Look really good. >> It's easier to catch those fly
balls when you see them. >> Yes. >> Okay. Anything else from the board at this time? >> Excuse me. >> Artwork is from North Junior High. Like you take a peek as you leave. We have any students with us this evening? We ask you to step up, identify yourself, and what school you're from. To the microphone, please. We won't bite you. I promise. >> I'm Avery West. I'm from North High School. >> Good evening. I'm Lucas Hers. I'm a junior from Memorial. >> I'm Zeke Farmer. I'm a junior at Monter. >> Hi, I'm Kevin Vasquez and I'm a junior at Memorial. >> I'm Gilbert Kumar. I'm a junior at Signature. >> I'm DJ Su and I'm a sophomore at Signature. >> Thank you all for attending. We appreciate it. Um, is there any of business
