meeting of March 16 to order. Roll call, please. >> President Duckworth, we have a full board present uh with Secretary Dere on the line. So, we'll do a roll call. >> Thank you. As a as a custom, please stand and join me in the pledge of >> alledgiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. At >> this time, we have good news. Jason Wenberg. Good evening. >> Thank you very much, President Duckworth, Superintendent Hoover, members of the board. We will dive into good news this evening. Uh, lots of good news since it's been a few weeks since our last board meeting. Big shout out to all of our high school musicians. These students are
incredibly talented. They recently, as you can see on the screen, we're at the Victory Theater. This is our uh high school honors band orchestra and choir. Um, and it is just they are just amazing. And it's always interesting when you talk to these students, which I've talked to some recently. So many of them in our honors group are planning on going into music after high school, music education, performance, that type of thing. So again, these aren't just students who can play. These are truly talented musicians. So kudos to them. Uh, congratulations to Mrs. Wan Mueller at Tomkins and Mrs. Burroughs at Dexter. They were named University of Evansville ACE Educators of the Year. UV always gives these out. Now, this is not to be confused with the Vandenberg County Educator of the Year award that's
coming up soon. Uh, but this is something UV does and it's always great to see our dedicated staff uh being honored for their hard work. Speaking of somebody who has worked hard, uh, congratulations to Libby Ryan. Uh, she is a student athlete at North High School. She was recently honored at the power of women's sports lunchon. Uh she was the recipient of the Lily King Award for athletic excellence and integrity. Uh and you can see Lily King was there to be a part of that presentation. But uh when you talk about being recognized as uh truly a top athlete in our community, that is really something to be proud of. So I know Dr. Hoover obviously you can see from the picture got to be a part of that. So really proud of her and
everything she has accomplished. Uh Summer Musical Company, bit of a name change. I know you've heard about this, seen this. We've been talking about this a lot lately with a lot more to come. What we used to call the EBSC summer musical, now the summer musical company. They have uh well, they've already been working since December. Uh spent some time with them Saturday morning. Talk about an incredibly talented and dedicated group of students who have a passion for theater and performing and music. They're going to be doing Titanic the musical in June. Uh which anyone who has seen that show just raves about that. [snorts] Uh it's not an easy show either. The music is uh difficult. I know Dr. Hoover's got experience with that and I know you've heard you say that as well
too. So, uh, really looking forward to these students doing this and just having this opportunity to truly get a great handle on theater education, um, and still working with the same, uh, dedicated production staff that we've had for many years. Uh, we had an episode of what's happening with Hoover Post. This was on the Amcor Link program. I don't want to say too much because again, that's going to be the feature of our district spotlight tonight, but another incredible program that we uh, offer here in EBSC. So stay tuned for a few more minutes and you'll get more information on that. Also want to shout out our winter guard. Uh these are also musicians, dancers who put together performances uh obviously in the winter. Uh they too work so hard. They have then some other
competitions and performances they do where they take it on the road. Um and there's always two groups plus we have some percussion groups as well. So obviously a lot of great things going on with music and that is it. Lots of great news. Turn it back to you. >> Thank you very much. Really interested to see how they're going to get that ship in Shanklin Theater. [laughter] >> We'll see. Um thank you for that. A lot of good things going on. Uh at this time we go to public comment. Mr. Shers >> Duckworth. We can call this good news volume two because it is my honor to call upon Larry Samples. >> Tonight I want to comment on the rights girls basketball season. They had an outstanding season as one sports cer put it. They
climbed a mountain. Uh girls basketball started in 1972. 1981 Rights was the state champion. That was before the class system. So they were two class system. true state champion head coach Louise Owen Mr. rolling there. Uh Barb Dyster, Shelley Brand, two outstanding players on that team. 1990 they won a sectional and after that it was a long drought. They had not won a sectional since 1990. Had not beaten Castle High School since 1992. Uh in the years 20 to 23, they only had two winning seasons. Had a stretcher of 10 losing seasons. One of those seasons they didn't win a game. shows you how far down they they've been, how far back they've come. They started coming back in 23 they had a winning season. 24 they had a winning season. 25 last year they
hosted the sectional. They were playing Castle playing Gibson Southern Gibson Southern to 3A with their enrollment but due to the success factor they got boosted up to 4A. Uh they were defending state champions. Wright took them to overtime last year but lost. This year they finally beat Castle at Castle. Castle was hosting the sectional. They had lost to Castle during the season. So they didn't win the conference championship, but they were they won a sectional. They won a regional in the Sim State. They lost to Center Grove, which was undefeated state champion. So no disgrace there. Outstanding player, Bailey Hape. For the last two years, we probably have been the player of the year if it had been for Matty Shirley at Central. Ustanding [clears throat] thing about rights for the next two years. Three
of the five starters were sophomores. So, but we're going to do some rights again. >> Go. And [laughter] >> I was able to go to that state championship and went down on the floor and congratulated every one of you. >> Did you see Mr. Owen there? >> Uh, did I? Well, I did. I see you there. I saw you. I saw you. >> I rode the I rode the uh firetruck afterwards and I saw Louise. There was no question about it. Even [snorts] when you get old, there are some things you still remember. >> True state champion, Mr. >> Amen. >> No question. [laughter] >> President Doug, that concludes our public shoulders concludes our moment with rights. I guess [laughter] >> next on the agenda, consent items. Dr. Hoover. >> Good evening, President Duckworth, members
of the board. We have six consent items for your consideration tonight. They are 3.0 01 consideration of the minutes from the February 23rd, 2026 regular board meeting. 3.02 Consideration of the allowance of payments that includes invoices, net payroll, payroll obligations for a total allowance of payments of 15,212,42058. 3.03 Consideration to approve the petition to the Indiana Department of Education for the Common School Fund loan. 3.04 Consideration to approve the agreements for the Academy of Science and Medicine. 3.05 05 Consideration to approve the transfer of bus contract H66. 3.06 Consideration to approve the resolution regarding potential purchase of property. These consent items are presented for your approval. >> Approval. >> We have a motion and a second. Any discussion? >> Yes. Uh did you say 3.06 was the >> to buy? It's not on my written
one here. It's the consideration to approve the resolution regarding potential purchase of property. >> That's 3.06. >> It's 3.06. >> Can we pull that out separate for >> It is not on. >> Yes, >> it's not on It's not on my That's why I was asking. >> Yeah. Could uh can we go back and and state what that is and make sure that the board has clarification on what we're looking at. >> And I I mean I understand you have print offs. It is on the iPad. >> Yes, it is right here. to approve a resolution regarding potential purchase of property. So, it is on the electronic one, but I would like to pull that one out separately and vote on it. >> Okay. So, for items 3.01 through 3.05, we have a motion and
a second. Is there any further discussion on those five items? Hearing none. Roll call, please. >> I will start with Trusty Dere. I, >> Vice President Moore, >> I, >> President Dunworth, >> I, >> Trusty Keeper. [clears throat] >> Hi, >> Trusty Hollingsworth. >> Hi, >> Trusty Ragland. >> Hi, >> and Trusty Gamler. >> Hi. >> Okay, that's uh, unanimous. And that passes. So now we'll move to 3.06. And I'd just like to say since this resolution involves Han Kefir representing the EVSC regarding the auction of the building at Washington Avenue Highway 41 and because Joe Kefir is my brother, I will abstain from this vote to avoid any perceived conflict of interest. So I'm abstaining. Okay. >> So we have a motion on 3.06 >> and a second. Any further discussion? Hearing none. Roll
call, please. >> I will start with Secretary Dere. >> I. >> Vice President Moore. >> I. >> President. >> Hi. >> Trusty Kefir. >> Yes. Thank you. >> Uh Trusty Hollingsworth. >> Hi. >> Trusty Ragland. >> Hi. >> And Trusty Caitlyn. >> Hi. >> Okay, that's unanimous. Uh with one abstension and it passes. Thank you. Uh next on the agenda is the consideration of personnel recommendations. Michelle Williams. >> Good evening, President Duckworth, members of the board, Dr. Hoover. Tonight's personnel recommendations include the following: retirements, resignations, termination, regular appointments, position reassignment, temporary appointment, sick leave bank, resignations from extra duty, appointment to extra duty, reassignment of extra duty, after school appointments, and consideration of the administrative appointment of Matthew Han, head boys track coach at Central High School. These recommendations are presented for your approval. Move
approval. >> Second. >> A motion and a second uh on personnel items. Uh there is also a recommendation to have a new principal at North High School. >> That is correct. >> Katie Elmer. And we all know Katie. She's our uh chief deputy under Rick Cameron. And uh I think she will do a great job. And that's not to take anything away from uh the great work that John Skinner has done at North and we sure appreciate what he's done. So with that being said, [snorts] any other comments at this time, Mr. Gamblin? >> Mike, are we voting on her tonight? I did not see her name. Is she's on this too? >> She is. She's under reassignment of administrative appointments. >> Yes. >> Okay. Any further questions or comments? Roll call, please. We'll start
with Secretary Dere. >> She may be Yeah, >> Amy, can you hear us? >> Let's go ahead and move forward and then >> with the rest. Okay, >> the difference. >> Vice President Moore. >> I >> President Duckworth. >> Hi. >> Trusty Kefir. >> Hi. >> Trusty Hollingsworth. >> Hi. >> Trusty Ragland. I >> and Trusty Gamblin >> I >> with uh that many votes and we'll try to get Amy back on and maybe we can record her vote. >> We have a not present at vote which would potentially apply maybe. I don't >> she has to be seen in her. >> So we'll show her as not voting. >> And with that result that passes. Thank you. >> Next we go to the district spotlight. Dr. group. >> Yeah. So, tonight I'm excited to
have two representatives to talk about Amcore link program. We have Jesse Simmons who is an EBSC teacher and we have Scott Harmon who I believe is the regional director of human resources at Amcor. Welcome and thank you for being here to share with the board and the public about the AMOR link program. >> Thank you for having us. Thank you very much. >> So, um look, I'll just kick it off. My name is Scott Herman. I'm the regional HR director for Amcor. So my responsibilities include the manufacturing facilities here in Evansville and then also some surrounding areas in the Midwest down into the south. Um and look, the Amcor Link program has been a tremendous tremendous success for us. So uh we partnered with EVSC in early 2022 into 2023 to develop the program. Um
and our f first cohort of students was in 2023. Um I would like to point out though that the partnership has gone um way before that. So you know we had a very good uh relationship with the leaders at the EVSC for many many years. Um hosting students on site for plant tours, visiting the facilities um really getting involved with students the best that we could. Um, but we also noticed that there was a big need and a need for students to get some experience in the workforce, specifically in our industry, in the advanced manufacturing industry. And so, you know, out of that need was was born the link program. And so, with that, we built a classroom on site at our airport warehouse facility. It's the big giant warehouse that you see as you
take off in an airplane. Um, and we built a facility and set up a program where students can come on site every single day. And so we have juniors, 25 juniors and 25 seniors. Uh the juniors are um primarily based in the classroom. And so you know uh Mr. Simmons here does a tremendous job of giving them exposure to advanced manufacturing logistics um and then a lot of things around personal development. So these kids have access to some of our executive leadership team. Um you know we we give them some personal finance uh instructions. Um, but really their junior year is focused on what makes a great manufacturing team member within the four walls of Amcore. Then their senior year they come back and they have an opportunity to work on the plant floor and
earn a wage. And so, uh, the kids are very excited about that. You know, they they get on on the floor and they, you know, they go through a number of rotations in quality and manufacturing um, and a number of different areas of the business, all to give them exposure and real life work experience, uh, day in and day out. And I would tell you, you know, at the end of the program, the experience that they've got and the leadership skills that they've earned, it it takes some of our new hires uh years to learn some of these things that they get in this 2-year period with our crew. So, it's been a it's been a resounding success. Um, one thing that I would point out that maybe is a little bit understated sometimes is
the morale boost within our tenure colleagues. I mean, our folks have really taken these kids under their wing and given them an opportunity to talk about what they do every single day and really just, you know, it's been a great thing for the morale within the four walls of AMC. So, um, Mr. Simmons has been a big part of that. You've done a tremendous job. So, I want to make sure you've got some comments. >> Well, I would like to say that the the cooperation between Amcor and with the EBSC, none of this would work without their flexibility and their willingness to jump in. Lisa Boswell, Zeke Bagot, Keith Tungate, all the employees, they treat them uh just like family when the kids come out on the floor and and that's what makes it special.
And uh without them uh I don't see how this would be successful. So, it's been with Amcore and with the kids and um we're growing uh as quick as we can. We have applicants every year and we look to expand um in the future and possibly go out to other plants. So, it's been a huge success and it's been a tremendous opportunity for myself. Uh, and the kids uh have bought into everything going on and and the life experiences that they will um learn from is is just tremendous. >> Got a couple questions. >> Yeah. >> Are you guys done? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you know are they get I don't know if you guys know if they do they get concurrent credit when they're doing this through the in the K12 space their
junior and senior year. Will they get concurrent credit with higher ed? Do you know? >> Uh, so right now we're looking to expand to do a dual credit. Is that what you're referring to? >> Yeah. So, right now we're we're doing a Sacka certification. Uh, they do OSHA 10 certification and we're looking to team with IvyTech on doing supply chain logistics type work. Uh, right now the kids have the opportunities. Uh, we have two that going into maintenance department. So, they're going to further education going into IvyTech. They've already been accepted to that. Uh we have two in the fork truck driving fork truck logistics uh press tech quality. Um we're looking to expand that uh with with just more opportunities. >> That's great because you know while we have control we want to I
say control while we have their attention during the K12 we want to get them in my mind as many credentials as possible. So whether it's a crosswalk because they have a specific certification or it's just pure concurrent credit you know high school and college credit we need to do that. And then HR, I'm just curious once they make that and and I'm sure you're hoping that a lot of them will work with your company because you got a fantastic company, right? Do you support them then after high school if they want to further because they can get some credit, >> but you know, do you support them as far as tuition reimbursement or whatever? I'm just curious. >> Absolutely. And that is the goal and and we make sure that we're very clear to the
kids as they go through the program. We want you to be a part of our company. Whether that means you're going to a four-year program and coming back or you stay with us through that time and and we make sure that they >> That's fantastic. >> Thank you very much for that. [clears throat] >> Yeah, I I got a chance to go for the filming and what struck me, you could you could first of all tell that they the employees were really invested in the students success. You could tell that um across the board, but also for students their excitement about possibilities. you know, they could really imagine a future either in Evansville and several of them talked about the ability to transfer other places if you're, you know, if you decide that you're moving
to this location and core is so big that there's an opportunity to even have employment in another place. So, >> I did have one more thought. I'm old. I'll forget if I don't say it. What's the completion rate? Do we know what success rate is with these students? So, if you got 10 coming in as a cohort, do we know what percentage of that 10 will finish? >> Go ahead. Right now we we're we've had 100% successful. Great. Okay. >> Um >> so we started first year we had 17. Uh now we're at 25. Next year we're looking to maybe bump to 35 uh because we've had so many applicants. Um >> limited just by space at this point or structure. >> It's space. Yeah, it's space. So the the classroom on site there can
only hold so many kids and then do so safely obviously. And you know it's it's a space constraint. So we're looking to expand that. And then also we've got other buildings obviously that we're we're trying to figure out how we can make this work. But it's been an evolution. I mean if you would have looked back at 2022 2023 what it's going to look like today. Um again I to me it has exceeded all of our expectations just in terms of the engagement with the kids. Um the rate of completion uh the certification that these kids are getting and then the exposure just for their career development. >> And then lastly because this is so fantastic what you're doing. What's the criteria to get in? >> Basically, they'll have to go through and apply. So,
we're based out of Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center. So, when they apply for the programs, they can apply and then based on uh all the representatives from Amcor will actually interview the students and so they go through, interview the students, they pick it based on a rubric, attendance, uh you know, GPA, different things of that nature and then select the students from that. So it's beyond just EBSC students since it's coming from site. >> No, it's just EBSC with sick tech. Yeah. And like he said, so it is an interview process. Um you know, our team sits down with the kids. Um we're looking for personal skills, we're looking for attendance, we're looking for all the things that he just mentioned. And um yeah, to get to that 25 number just again based on
space. >> Going back to what you said about college, I've noticed a big transition in the kids now having a focus when they go on to college. I got two of them that are want to go into HR, two of them want to go into maintenance. So, it's giving them a career path when they go to the next level. And the college health program, if they come on and work a certain amount of hours during the summer, then they get a thous,000 scholarship that they can use >> for their education. >> And I think the big plus is that we are insight. So, the kids get to come out to the plant every single day. I can talk about door locks on a logistics and then we just suit up and go out and see
one in action. So, >> fantastic. Thank you. >> Thank you. Um I'll say you thank you so much um for this because I I think uh Trusty Kefir stated opportunities and I'm all about words. I love [snorts] words. So the three words that came to my mind were accessibility, exposure, and opportunity. Um especially when you talk about what's next, right? I think we talk about all the things now, but it's that what's next after that last diploma is held, you know, it's given in May and all the hoopla and all [snorts] the wonderful things that were out, but man, what's next? So, you talk about the exposure um because it's a great company to work for. Um you think of the benefits of the longevity of all the things, right? So, thank you so much
for what you're doing and just making it accessible to whomever. But of course, there's a process as well. >> Thank you. >> I can't tell you how happy this makes me to see corporate Evansville uh put their arms around our students, pull them in, show them what the real world's about a little bit, and everything from interviewing to attendance to paying attention. all the skill set that they're going to need when they get into the real world. And uh that's invaluable. Uh I appreciate the higher ups there how much we enjoy having our students get this opportunity. >> Thank you very much. Really appreciate those comments. It truly has been our pleasure. You know, I think the thing that as we have executive leaders come and visit the kids and even as I go out
and talk to the kids, they'll surprise you. I mean, how engaged and just how much they've absorbed the manufacturing curriculum that Mr. Simmons has brought forward. Like, they are doing a tremendous job and um you can tell that they want to be there. It's it's a lot of fun to see. >> Yeah. This morning they had Bill Norman was there for an hour speaking. So it was >> Bill is our Bill is our president over North America operations um you know so he's he's got a big responsibility and look at the end of the day you know someone like Bill started on third shift in an operator role and he's able to explain that to these kids and talk about his career path and and they've just got unique access to these individuals in in
key leadership roles. So you you may be in the infancy of the program, but I can remember several occasions when um different instructors from uh Southern Technical School would suggest that a student go talk to so and so or whatever. And they started that program that way and now they're working full-time earning a a good living. And that's the kind of thing we need to do with other companies, you know, and making sure that our kids have an opportunity. Not all about college. It's great when they decide they want to go, but there are other things uh that we need uh to to put them out in the workforce. I can tell you this. I play my pay my plumber as much as I pay my dentist. [laughter] >> It's the real world. So, thank
you very much. >> Teaching marketable skills. >> Absolutely. Awesome. When they get out of school, they'll have marketable skills. Thank you. >> Thank you, fellas. Appreciate you. >> Thank you all. >> Thank you. >> Next on the agenda, [clears throat] we go action items 6.01, consideration to award the contract for Stockwell Elementary School flooring renovation project for 2026. Steve Sheller. Good evening. >> Good evening, President Duckworth, members of the board, and Dr. Hoover. Stockwell Elementary Flooring Project 2026. Notice bid was advertised on January 9th, January 16th, 2026. A pre-bid meeting was held on January 20th, 2026. Bids were received on February 4th, 2026. Our recommendation is to award the contract to Razer Floren for the base bid amount of 249,950 plus alternate bid number one for $29,100 for a total of $279,50. [snorts] Move >>
second. A [clears throat] motion and a second. Um, that was not the lowest bid. >> It was not. Can you uh for the record give us some idea as to why we move the way we're moving? >> Yes, sir. So, we had a meeting after the bid opening with the architect and we kind of went over the the bids that came in. Uh the low bid was substantially lower than the architect's estimates and we had uh issues with whether they could do the project actually for that amount of money. >> Is the other uh company a local company? They are fulerson. >> And and did you discuss to them with them your your concerns and and all that? >> We did. >> Yeah. >> Any other questions or concerns? >> Roll call vote, please. >>
Um Trustee [clears throat] or Secretary Dere's um video not on. So I will go ahead and go to Vice President Moore. >> Hi. >> President Zuckworth. Hi, >> Trusty Kefir. >> Hi, >> Trusty Hollingsworth. >> Hi, >> Trusty Ragland. >> Hi, >> Trusty Gamblin. >> Hi. >> And I see you, Secretary Moore. Now, how do you vote? >> December. >> Thank you. >> Okay, looks like that uh that passes. Thank you very much. Uh next, we'll move to 6.02, 02 consideration to approve purchase of Linewise Services. Good evening. >> Good evening, President Duckworth, members of the board. Dr. Hoover, in our February 23rd, 2026 board meeting, you were presented with anformational item concerning the purchase of the Linewise platform to enhance student security and safety, instructional focus, focus, and parent engagement. Line Wise provides real-time
content filtering, classroom management tools for teachers, proactive student safety monitoring, and optional parent visibility into student device activity. The total cost for three-year agreement is $417,7242 payable in annual installments of $39,234.13. Funding will come from our common school fund. The office technology is re >> requesting your approval as fertus. Thank you. I'll >> move. >> Second. We have a motion and a second. Any questions or discussion? >> This makes our children safer. Correct. >> Yes, it does. >> That's all I needed to hear. >> Other questions or comments? >> Roll call, please. >> Secretary Dere. Hi, >> Vice President Moore. >> Hi, >> President Duckworth. >> Hi, >> Trusty Kefir. >> Hi, >> Trusty Hollingsworth. >> Absolutely. >> Trusty Ryland. >> I >> and Trusty Camp. >> Thank you. >> Votes. That carries. >> Thank
you, Joe. >> 6.04. Public hearing on building projects and preliminary [snorts] determination. >> 6.03. >> I got to pass it again. My problem. 6.03. Thank you. consideration to approve the curriculum adoption for English language arts. Dr. Goth, I really wasn't trying to get past you here. >> That's okay. I'm flexible, so I was going with it. Uh, good evening, President Duckworth, members of the board, Dr. Hoover. The Office of Schools and Instructional Core recommends the approval of SAVIS, My View Literacy, and My Perspective as the district's core ELA reading curriculum. Uh these programs comply with Indiana code and are featured on Indiana's highquality curriculum advisory list. Uh these curricula integrate reading and writing to build deep background knowledge on topics and ensure instructional consistency across all grade levels. This unified adoption provides a rigorous standards
aligned literacy framework for all students from kindergarten through graduation. Teachers will be provided with instructional supports and resources to differentiate learning for a range of student needs. That includes scaffolds for developing readers and multil- language learners. This curricula include assessment resources, access to a digital platform, and opportunities for students to collaborate and discuss to strengthen their comprehension and communication skills. This will also include professional development for both administrators and teachers. The total cost for these six-year contracts is $4,857,72.76 which will be funded through the education and textbook fund. Happy to answer any questions you have. >> A motion motion and a second. Uh, one question I have is there's an advisory board. >> Yes, we did. >> And so who makes up the advisory board? >> That's a great question. Um we had 27 participants
on the advisory board. So we had collaborated with um ETA and also our administrators for recommendations of those names. We had representatives from different schools. So we did have they were teachers who were on that team. Uh different grade levels were represented different schools. Um we did have a variety of teachers across elementary, middle, and the high school range. >> And this lines up with state standards and everything. Yes, there is an Indiana. [clears throat] >> Any questions or comments? >> Hearing none. Roll call, please. >> Start with Secretary Dere. >> I, Vice President Moore, >> I. >> President Duckworth, >> I. >> Trusty Kefir. >> Hi, >> Trusty Hollingsworth. >> Hi, >> Trusty Bradley. >> I >> and Trusty Gablin. >> Hi. >> That uh is enough votes to pass. Thank you very much.
Next, we will move to 6.0. 04. I'm trying to get there quick for you, Dr. Underwood. You've got 6.04 and 6.05. Uh 6.04 is a public hearing on projects and preliminary determination for the general obligation bond and 6.05 consideration to adopt the project preliminary determination and reimbursement resolutions. Uh so I'm going to let you take over from there. >> Thank you, President Duckworth, members of the board, and Dr. Hoover. [clears throat] Uh, tonight's uh, preliminary determination hearing was published in accordance with all legal requirements. Pursuant to Indiana code, the school corporation is required to hold two public hearings and adopt a preliminary termination resolution before issuing bonds or entering into a lease for projects. At this time, I would turn meeting over to Mr. Shoulders. >> Thank you, members of the board. This will be
the second uh, hearing as required by law. The first was held on February 23rd, 2026 and conducted with great appl by Dr. Under. So at this time, we will ask if there is any member of the public who would like to be heard on the adoption of a preliminary determination on the projects mentioned therein. Is there any member of the public who would like to speak? Seeing no one approaching the microphone, we will ask one more time if there is any member of the public who would like to speak on the issuance of general obligation bonds as provided in the preliminary determination. >> No one wishing to speak, we will declare this hearing adjourned. Back to you, Dr. Underwood. [snorts] >> Thank you, Mr. Shers. At this time, I would ask for your approval uh
for to adopt the project preliminary determination and reimbursement resolutions. >> So move a motion and a second. Any further discussion or questions? >> Hearing none. [sighs] >> Okay. >> Very much. >> Thank you. >> Okay. He went through the Is that right? >> Okay. So, now that moves us to continued business. >> Dr. Who? >> Okay. I'll start. I will say Jason, my list got much shorter after Jason's good news. First, let me start by thanking you for attending recent school visit to Washington Heights Middle School. I appreciate the board going along to see uh classrooms and the great things from their staff and students. Winter sports are wrapping up. Um boys basketball team fought hard in the regional but came up a little short. Um, boys middle school is finishing up. Uh, but in
total, I think the when I asked how many students participated in winter sports this season, 1535 students participated in winter sports from elementary through high school. So, that's a good number of kiddos. Fine arts also very busy. Jason mentioned the Phoenix and Academy winter guards. But in addition to that, 1489 of our students, mostly middle schoolers, received a medal at EVSC solo and ensemble events. So, you know, they really have a robust program and lots of participation. It's been a while since we've had a meeting. Uh we had PT PTA founders day on February 26. It was a great event to celebrate all that PTAs bring to our school. And last, um teachers and students just finished up their first round of iid. While the the scores are embargoed, I will just say to you
that I am proud of all of the efforts going on in our school and I look forward to sharing good news with you when I can. That's it for me. >> Comments from other board members. >> Just one comment. Um Steve Sheller won the prestigious president's award. Welldeserved award. He does a lot for OUR [applause] just somebody who flies under the radar but does a whole lot of stuff. Um he sees our buildings as more than just a building. And that is so important because it's more than a building to a kid. They go they go to Halloween parties. They go to dances. It's a it's a K through 12 experience. and he enhances those experiences by having beautiful um like parklike uh you know just our playgrounds and and just are I I'm just
so proud of our buildings and Mr. Michelle, I really applaud your efforts and helping our children. You you did stuff that I can't sit here and just say because there's just too many of them, but you and then Rick Cameron's done stuff also. You guys have really rallied and and thank you so much on behalf of all the PTAs and on behalf of the children. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. God bless you. >> Congratulations. U so yesterday I was uh just scrolling and saw where Bossy Bulldogs Pride ads won state in Louisville >> and it's such a big honor and a deal because I don't know if anyone of course we remember Miss Rhonda Drake the dance teacher at Bossy and she passed away a couple of years ago from breast cancer and that
was a dream of hers for her girls she called them her babies to make it to state. And so in honor of her, I just have to say, who are who are who are we? We are. We are. We are the Bulldogs. Mighty, mighty Bulldogs. Yes, we are. We are. So, congratulations to the Bossy Dance team, to the Pride Ads. >> Awesome. Awesome. >> And I just want to share um I had attended um a five-day conference in Louisville as the consortium of um educational um The acronym is forever long course consortium of state school boards association. Um and it was just the one just powerful and inspiring. Uh the decorum was set to get back to people and and treating people right and making people great people greater and our uh school and children.
Um one of the keynote speakers was Felicia Rashad um the actress Cosby show um the and I learned that there's a national school board uh of students that's um nationally and um you know I had no idea of that you know prior to this um it also advocacy at not just our local and state levels but at a federal level as well and that um there are um I guess a consult of not only just our personal school board but um a school board national that assist at even federal levels. Um they showcased uh the students you know there was bands, there were singers, there was musical um orchestras um that performed and um there um was even um how to gauge your data in terms of like public perception. Um and that was interesting
uh workshop. Um uh the secrets of strong governance as well. And then um um just moving was extortions um teens extorted online by predators and the mental health that's goes with that. that one in five teens um are exposed to being extorted and um that as a result just I think this I think in one year like 50 suicides as a result of that and it's really this you know emphasizes the need to really dig deeper into our mental health and and where our kids our student and teams are at. That's just a snippet [laughter] of of the conference, but it was excellent. So, >> awesome. Now, you mentioned conferences. I'll be attending the National School Board Association conference in San Antonio, April 8th, I think it is, and I'll be bringing some information back
in regards to maybe some national trends and things that maybe we need to to look towards. So, uh, in addition to that, uh, I did talk to Steve Sheller earlier tonight and ask him to put some pictures together of the progress that's being made at, uh, Enlow and at Writes Bowl, uh, for us to maybe don't have the time to go out and walk it. It is a construction site, so we don't they don't need us nosing around right now, but at least uh, give us some pictures and some thoughts. I I did I have a relative that lives close to Rice, and I did go over and take a peek, and it looks awesome. So um in addition to that uh I did participate in the visits to our schools and I will just
say this, it does my heart good and any parent will walk to our schools and see the engagement of our teachers and our administrators and our staff with the kids in these schools. If you take your kids somewhere else, it's it's your choice, but you're missing out because our EBSC schools are just awesome. and I appreciate everything that our staff does and it's to make our students and and our community a better place and we appreciate all they do. Uh tonight uh is there any other comments from the board at this time? Tonight we have our artwork from the New Tech Institute. Take tell you to take a look at that. Very talented. Uh they got past stickmen and that's what I'm most that is putting the the stickmen together. at this program that also

Which one? >> Um, what >> what rank are you? >> Citizen. >> Got it. You're a boy scout. >> Cool. What rank are you? >> Second class. >> I'm sorry. >> Second class. Good. Thanks for being here.
