001I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Can I Can I please get a motion to return from executive session? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. Um all those in favor? >> Aye. Opposed? Abstention? Motion passes. Um let's see. Um that moves on to our item E, a moment of silence. >> Uh thank you, Mrs. Meaden. It's was with a deep sense of sadness that I shared with our staff last week the unexpected passing of Patricia Todd. Uh Patricia Pat was a driver at our Arlington garage uh and she drove for us for 18 years and was a beloved colleague and friend. At this time I'd

002ask those in the audience and in attendance this evening to join me in a moment of silence to honor Pat's memory. Thank you. >> Thank you. Mrs. Adida, can you please call the roll? >> Brian Arnold? >> Here. >> Jennifer Boyd? >> Here. >> Linda Gaines? >> Here. >> Jeff Hayt? >> Here. >> Sophia Benay Hollis? >> Here. >> Donna Logan? >> Here. >> Maryann Meaden? >> Here. >> Eileen Snook? >> Here. >> Marion Quinn? >> Here. >> Mia Newsom? >> Here. >> All right. G, the reading of the district mission. Our mission is to empower all students to be self-directed lifelong learners who willingly contribute to their community and lead passionate purposeful lives. Can I please get a motion you to approve all of tonight's agenda? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Thank you.

003Any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor, I. Opposed, abstention, motion passes. Correspondence. Does anybody have any particular correspondence they'd like to share this evening? Seeing none, board president remarks. Well, welcome. Welcome to everyone in our community and for people listening, I want to thank everyone again for supporting our budget vote last last week. Um time has flown, but uh if you tuned in, we had a very short meeting to accept the vote. Uh I want to congratulate our our incumbent board members who were reelected and thank our community for supporting them again. Um I want to also uh I just Oh, I know what I want to say. We went this week to the distinguished graduates breakfast at the at the BOCES. I'm I bet you that's on your list to talk about, too.

004I just wanted to say that I really had a wonderful time and um two of our students, Daniel Cronk and um Anna Gada, were both recognized and what's really nice is we're going to see them again tomorrow at the um Charlie Johnson Memorial Awards, which is like one of my favorite things of the year. So, they're recipients of the Charlie Johnson Award this year and so we'll be going to that tomorrow. Um and that can be it for me for now. Let's all move on to you, Fel. >> Cover all my material. That's okay. No worries. >> I'll let you hear someone more eloquent than I am. I'm sure you'll put a better spin on it than I You'll put a better spin on the whole thing. >> I just wanted to again thank the

005community for their support and uh congratulations to the trustees who were reelected. Also, just wanted again thank Fran for her work. It's her first uh uh budget facilitation and she did a wonderful job. Uh the new system that we're learn using this year use this year, Fran, remind me. Bold. Um provides all sorts of analytics on on the budget. So, I thought that may be of interest to the board. So, Fran and I will compile that information cuz you can see who voted against all registered voters in the area. So, you can get a sense of turnout, um some demographic information depending on uh what we uh or what uh is on file. Um yeah, pretty interesting stuff. So, we'll share it with the board uh over the course of the next week's week or

006so if you are interested in reviewing that sort of thing. Uh as Maryann mentioned, we did have the opportunity to go to the Dutchess County Distinguished Graduate Breakfast. And I really appreciate the angle that uh our house team um Mrs. Spagnola is this year's senior house principal. I think Mrs. Spagnola is here. She is in the last row there. Hi, Mrs. Spagnola. Um the uh the house team took on this particular recognition. Uh and this is not in any means a criticism of any of uh my colleagues or other districts and how they approach it. But my observation in 2 years doing this is that many schools choose to honor uh their valedictorian and their salutatorian as is very reasonable and understood. Uh we have a separate breakfast for our val and sal uh that

007is next week, I believe. So, over the last 2 years we've uh in BOCES provides the flexibility to recognize students uh um really the criteria are quite broad. So, um Mrs. Spagnola and her team recognized two students who are outstanding students that do very well in the classroom but who um really have stood out to the house team for their character. Uh Annagada and Daniel Cronk who just by chance I've known for for many years one way or another uh since they were quite young. And and I can say are absolutely people of a very strong character and who have embodied the value of service in their young lives and their resumes are quite long at this point. But Anna, um of many things, is very active uh with our students through the um unified

008sports uh program. Uh and that's just one of many things that uh she is engaged in just under that theme of service. And Dan, uh I've learned that he's going to be a fifth generation firefighter. Uh and he is currently serves as a volunteer in the Pleasant Valley Fire Department and uh has been very engaged. Uh he has a certification, uh his EMS certification already and again is planning to uh one day become a New York City uh firefighter. So, I was just really appreciative of the house's coordination of that at the high school and a congrats again to Anna and Dan. And we will uh they are both Charlie Johnson recipients, two of many uh that we will be recognized tomorrow evening at 6:00 at Arlington High School. If you haven't attended a Charlie

009Johnson Awards Memorial Day ceremony, uh please consider doing so. It's a wonderful event and um quite meaningful. Um and well organized. I know Mrs. Uh there was a passing of the torch this year, right, Mrs. Nixon? So, Dr. Carroll had organized this event for many years and now you are the organizing uh No pressure. Uh you're going to do great. Um I I did I did want to mention uh also that uh John and I had the opportunity to attend the culminating event at Lime Rock uh for our Winter Circle project on Friday and we're both still here. And I say that because I was at the end of the event and I was taking a great video of John riding out uh to take the car around with all the other cars uh from

010the seven other schools around the track at Lime Rock with Mr. Flanagan. I videoed that and then Mr. Flana- Flanagan um coercing me to get in the seat. I I didn't want to do anything with the track, uh but I got the opportunity to drive around the track with John uh for three laps and again I'm I'm here to tell you about it. Um but what a fantastic opportunity uh for our kids. Uh this was the um the kids are scored on their performance throughout the year. Um I think there's 126 points or so. Um uh this last day is just a small portion of the points they had been accumulating throughout the year. And um everything from, you know, how they're marketing the car, their visual communications, social media, the car build itself. Uh

011very competitive, as you know, this was our first year in the winter circle project. I'm just ecstatic that uh we actually received uh third place uh in in in uh the year-long project um out of again eight schools. Uh very competitive and only I think 1.2 points separated uh first place from third place. That's how close the competition is. Um and and the scoring was over the course of this year. So, uh we did great in some categories, and we did okay in others. I noted there's a homework category. And the kids, they all It's funny. They told them that, you know, you you were also graded on your homework completion this year, specific projects they had to do each each uh uh month. And I was watching our group, one of whom's my son,

012uh who I saw collectively wince, you know, when they said homework counted as well. And they were like, "Oh, that homework." Um that homework could have made the difference between third place and first place. I I will know, but kidding aside, um uh across the 12 categories, Arlington was very competitive. And uh the teachers who were involved in the project did a great job this year. I think to finish in the top three is just remarkable, but the experience nonetheless is really just wonderful for our kids. And uh the last thing I'll mention, the folks at Lime Rock, uh there was racing going I'd never been to Lime Rock before. Pretty cool place, not that far away. Uh very loud. Uh uh that being said, they invited the kids for the weekend. And uh I

013went back on Saturday uh just to see you drag my son out of bed but it was so enthused to see how many kids who were engaged not just in Arlington's winter circle project team but how many other kids from the other schools that I saw wearing their winners circles project gear went back on Saturday and it was a rainy Saturday as you know so I just shows how engaged all of the kids were through the project and wonderful experience on on Friday. >> And there were there were a lot of kids involved in that too right? >> About 60 kids not as many as part of the build class cuz that's a little bit more it's a little smaller but between the visual communications and the marketing class we think there were about 650

01460 kids so. >> Involved all year. >> Yeah it's a year long project and then across the eight schools you figure you know between and the school sizes teams range but there are a few hundred kids there that are involved in the project it's definitely growing so but really neat and I think when we have our next board meeting and Arlington you'll be able we're going to try to give you an opportunity to see the car that they built so that's pretty neat since we'll be at the high school that concludes my remarks. >> Thank you very much. Mia. Ex-officio student board member report. >> Hi I really don't have much to say from the past two weeks since last time we met the only big thing is is that student government elections are tomorrow

015so if anyone knows any kids in the district or has kids in the district please encourage them to vote we're hoping for a high voter turnout and I'm wishing good luck to everyone who's running. >> Thank you very much anybody have questions for Mia tonight? Okay. Um Francesca do we have any public comment tonight? >> We do not. >> Okay. It moves us on to reports and discussions. Um. >> I had a question for Mia before the questions. >> Yeah. The prom is in a few weeks. Are prom songs still a thing? Came up in the community yesterday. Is there like still a prom song? >> Or theme? >> Or a theme? >> We don't We don't have a theme for senior prom, I don't think. But I think we did pick our prom song.

016I think it might be Vienna by Billy Joel, but I might be wrong about that. I remember that being one of the options. >> That's the song you voted for? >> Mhm. >> Was there a vote? >> Yeah, I think there was a vote. I know I voted for that one. >> Got it. Don't mean to put you on the spot, but >> Yeah. >> I didn't think there were prom songs anymore or prom themes, but I thought someone said, "I think Arlington might have a theme." Sorry. Building construction update. >> Without further delay, there we go. Building >> So, as Garrett's coming up to the podium and that this I think is going to be projected behind us, so I'll scoot out of the way. We are at a very unique uh milestone, I'll

017say, as uh and I know I know there will be many uh along the way where we're getting ready to break ground on LaGrange Middle School and West Road School be shortly behind. So, uh with that, Garrett's going to provide and his team uh and Lewis here as well, our construction manager, who'll be uh certainly managing many elements of that LaGrange project as we get started. Uh they're going to share a little bit about the project, where we are, and some visuals tonight, I believe, as well, Garrett. Uh hopefully the schools go ahead. >> Devon, Devon, can you back up to the beginning for me? Mrs. Meaden, Dr. Benante, and the board, good evening. >> Good evening. >> Hi, Garrett. >> Um Jim Buffard and Ingrid Martinez from my office are with me, and Lou

018Rodriguez from from the Palumbo Group. Um I got to tell you, I'm really excited for this presentation. Um as Dr. Benante mentioned, we're at an inflection point, um starting construction soon. We're out to bid. Um and I got to give you a fair amount of detail on that, but I just want to say that overall the project is is going great. We finished a lot of design, and we still a lot of work to go in terms of construction, but overall we're just in a terrific spot, and I'm so glad to be here. So. I have a fair amount of ground to cover, and Dr. Benanti said, "Try and keep it to 15 minutes." So, I'll move as fast as I can. >> That doesn't include our questions, so there you go. >> So, I

019want to Tonight I want to go over the LaGrange Middle School project. I'm going to show you some plans and images. This is a good opportunity for us to see things together as a group, but also to share with the community all the good work that's been going on. Talk about West Road and project update for that, budgets, some timeline information, so we have an understanding of what's going to come next, and then next steps. The one thing I want to start by saying is at the beginning of the design for this capital project, Dr. Benanti asked that we take a step back and revisit conversations that happened during pre-ref, and include a very broad audience. And so, we took that request suggestion very seriously, and I'm confident that we have um touched and listened

020to a very broad group, and they have really informed the project. And so, I'm I'm glad for the encouragement to do that and the support of the district to do that. There was a lot of meetings and schedules, and it's a lot of work. So. Without further ado, the LaGrange Middle School is we've completed design. We have SED approval, and we are now out to bid. So, the project's going to be bid in two parts. So, we're out to bid on the first part, which The pointer doesn't really work very well on this screen, it looks like, but is the addition on the left side. So, blue are additions. The orange-ish is heavy renovations, and there's some lighter color there that may be a little hard to see on some of these screens. That is

021light renovation. So, we're out to bid, and I'll show you an image that shows what's in phase one, but the thing that I want to really point out is there's going to be a major addition on LMS. It's 15 classrooms, including two science rooms, that are just going to be fantastic classrooms, related services rooms, bathrooms, elevator, the the whole nine yards to get a great addition on this building. In addition, the corridor in the back of the building along the back wall there is going to do a really wonderful thing to improve circulation in the building. The other thing I want to mention about LMS is that this isn't just tacking an addition onto the building, but it's really sort of rethinking how education happens in the existing building and in the core of the

022building. And so, the renovations, when they when that construction for that happens, will really create a cohesive school building that's going to improve education for the students at LMS just incredibly. Um There's a small addition on the front of the building under the overhang. That's the blue at the bottom of the page. That's for office relocation and PPS and a secure entry. And I'll show you some images of that in a sec. This is the second floor, so it's a two-story addition. Um I did misspeak. The elevator is not in the addition, it's in the existing building. Correct? Yep. So, I just wanted to clarify that. Um new media center, um student services upstairs as well. So, um this is an uh image of what is going to be in this current bid phase one.

023Um the rest will happen uh in a subsequent bid package. One B is what we're calling it. Um Tom Chesser and the Palumbo Group, Lou Rodriguez did a really good job of um figuring out how to build this very complex project. And that was part of the reason why we decided, let's do the first addition to the addition first. Um finish that, and then that will become swing space for the renovations to happen afterwards. Um Lou's here to take questions on the phasing, but I'll uh I'll just give Palumbo a shout-out. They did a great job of thinking of thinking about this and figuring out how to get it built. This is the site plan for LMS. Um so, the gray uh hatch is the addition off to the side. And then on the right

024side is uh reworked parent drop-off. Um This is going to really make a big difference in uh the life of the school. Just point out that's a bid alternate, so we're hoping to have enough funds for that. Um but if not, then that would be something that we could come back and get at a future date. >> But, Garrett, that's an alternate in uh the B, the B. No, it's not in this package. It's in the 1 B package, right? The next the next bit. >> Yep, exactly. Going to show you some images now. So, um this is the front of the building 3D rendering and the infill addition underneath. Um Our Grange Middle School is a iconic representation of international school style in New York. And so, the State Historic Preservation Office of New

025York State um had a lot to say about how we did additions to this building. So, this was uh the result of a lot of work with SHPO and the district um to come up with something that we feel like is um compatible with the building, but really will meet your needs in the future. This is the addition on the back. So, this is a image from the fields looking um at the school. And then, this is the courtyard that gets created um from the addition. This is the secure entry at the front of the school. Um so, the doors will be uh locked there. There's a security office on the side. We had spent a lot of time um thinking about how best to meet your security needs. Um a lot of people involved

026in that. So, I think this is going to work really well. This is the PPS suite. So, currently they're in a windowless space across the hall from the main entry. Um this will put them on the front of the building to have windows um and really great space for the good work that that group does. Uh this is the cafeteria. We're needing to replace the ceiling and the um State Historic Preservation Office had a lot of things to say about that. So, this is a uh happy medium for satisfying their needs to keep that sought-to-ceiling, but also to get new HVAC and new lighting into that space. The um kitchen's also going to be renovated in phase 1B and that'll have a major impact on how things operate in this in the school. Uh you

027can see This is the cafeteria looking the other way with a mural, the existing mural. You can see the garage door on the left. That's that will open up during lunch periods and the kids will go in there to get food instead of getting food out in the cafeteria space itself. This is one of the new classrooms. State-of-the-art classroom. Storage, technology, lighting, flexible furniture, really everything that teachers could want to provide a high-quality education. This is one of the science rooms, one of the two science rooms. Um the infrastructure for science, we typically now are designing on the perimeter and that leaves the flexibility of the furniture to provide lab tables or lecture tables. So, very flexible teaching space. Image of the media center from the hall. And then the renovated media center. Whoop, sorry.

028One more of them. One more of the media center there. Any questions on LMS? I'm going to go to West next. Donna. >> I remember that. >> A secure and welcoming entries were a thing. Could you tell us what makes like what some of the key aspects of a secure and welcoming entry that are >> Yeah. So, from the security standpoint, the doors on the outside will be locked. There'll be a second set of doors on the interior, so you get a vestibule that slows people down. That's the big thing is buying time and and security incidents. So, that's how we deal with security and then having the office the security office right there. In terms of welcoming, we're making it as bright as possible. We're making the sort of process you can buzz people

029in or you can have the greeter come out and get someone. That's you know, it's really the personal side. We've given the greeter a space outside their office and hopefully they'll spend time there rather than spending time in the office. So, they're sort of as they are now part of the community in the school. So, those two things. >> So, you think are the greeter in that space um you mean in in the vestibule itself or they are >> They have an office right next to the vestibule with Yeah, we we did some conceptual designs. We estimated them. But once we know how much money's left, then I think we're going to have to have some more conversations about what is it how you want to spend the money and what are the priorities. So,

030that will definitely happen. I use a current budget. So, phase one and two are current budgets and then the remainder is left over for 30 million for phase three, totaling the 179.6. Um these are all estimates. We're going to We're going to announce it enough. All right. Um here's the schedule that's just to because phase one, which is RMS, and that little blue that's in the middle of the dash line is out to bid, which is where we are now. Um construction will start right away, and then we'll bid West Road in the fall and start construction next year. The septic system will happen soon. Hopefully, we can get that approved by DEC and DOH. And then phase three will start after that. And if my eyes can focus, we're shooting to be done in

0312029. >> When are we thinking we're getting the bids in? When's the Now that they're out there, when did When did we ask for them to come back? >> Uh bid current bid opening schedule is Okay. Thank you. >> It's my birthday. That sends a good luck >> we can give you a good bid request out there. >> Good bids. >> Um So, that's what I mean by signing the bid date. So, I might not have a good birthday, but Um good music and good weather. So, we did through this week. Uh I had pretty good bid turnout. Um and uh you know, we'll see. So, So, the last little couple of things that I wanted to end with is we're moving to construction. Um Um, we've done a good job to this point. think

032we're really in that position. We've thought things through. We're prepared. Um, we still have a lot of work to go and there's a lot of in the next stages. So, just the natural um evolution of construction is um things happen, you know, boots come in, we can't control them. So, uh the next couple months I think are going to be really critical in terms of um managing the project well, making good decisions. Um, but I think we're in in a really good spot to do that. So, um with that I would ask if there are any other questions. Sophia? >> Um, I remember that in when you were briefing us, you spoke really well about how if I'm a parent and a kid in elementary and I just heard that they're going to break ground

033on 15 new classrooms, what is the plan to address the noise and the disruption of a regular school >> So, in the school construction of the school building you shouldn't you shouldn't have any questions about the work work and Yeah. And we do we do have to build. We've created security uh security ingress and egress uh to make sure that the uh student population is safe. Um that working in the building is safe. Uh CD we're required to keep within uh an 80 dB uh decibel rating. 80 dB is basically the volume of your phone when it rings, if you really think about it at high volume, that's 80 dB. We're required to keep to within that. So, we do have a dB meter in um our work office and uh we will get complaints.

034Sometimes something's a little louder. But uh uh yeah, we want to make sure that uh it's quiet uh as quiet as it can be so instruction can uh occur. But SED does have a standard that we have to keep to to and that standard is is in the bid documents. So everyone's required to keep to that. >> You can hold on to that microphone. So we're a couple weeks later than initially thought on the bid process, is that correct? >> Yeah, we took a little extra time to make sure we were packaging things correctly and constructive ability review and go back and forth. >> But for timing not like really we're going to be breaking ground there once the kids are out. >> Yeah, uh our idea of the construction schedule's to break ground middle

035of July. >> And originally there was thought that the kids could be still in school. >> When you actually break ground? >> No, no, I mean the original plan that timeline you had. >> Yeah, the timeline we were at the end of June, now we're middle of July for breaking ground. >> Does it kind of help lighten the groundwork without having the extra little kids around? >> It does. I think the stress for us is going to be establishing um temporary parking in the in the island in front of LMS. That's really our biggest goal is making sure that because we're taking parking away. That's going to be one thing. We do have a water line that's going in that's part of the project that was already bid. Want to make sure that gets done.

036Yeah, we'll establish all of the uh temporary means of egress and circulation. So that when students staff come back, they know how to get in and out of the building, parents know how to drop their kids off, new circulation ideas. Um you know, uh uh when the buses are dropping the kids off, it's going to be a learning and you know, you know, everyone's going to have to hopefully be patient with us and it's going to it's going to take a little time. But, uh you know, the big thing is uh getting the temporary parking in front island uh completed so that we can redistribute all the staff parking so that we could take over on the uh on the south side of the school and we could take over that that space. >> I

037get a question. Um >> For me to ask you or you to ask >> or for you. You know, I did you say you had you had a bid meeting with some of the people that are interested already? Did that start? >> So, you uh so protocol says we got to prove it and walk through >> Yeah. >> So, you know about that. So, this is is teaching the contractors how we have thought about the project, how we're going to build it, how we're going to sequence it. Um what's going to be really important as far as bonding requirements, staffing, protection. So, we do the tutorial on that and that occurred last Thursday. >> And was there Were you pleased with the amount of interest? Like >> a lot of interest, yeah. >> Okay. That's

038good. >> There's a lot of contractors and because we're going out single prime, there were quite a bit of subcontractors as well that came to have interest. So, the subcontractors will be uh bidding to the single prime. >> Okay. >> Yeah, so it was it was a good turnout. Um it's to continue to solicit, make sure uh these contractors feel really comfortable and really want to go after the job. Also, right now, what's really nice about this project is we're going to continue to build out into the fall of 2027. A lot of contractors aren't used to that in school construction. You know, they're used to 7 or 8 weeks during the summer that they have to get things done. So, our sell is this is a great project. You're going to get continuing to

039work through the year. You got a backlog. And by the way, we got 1B come So, now if you're into an 1A, 1B's right behind it. When you look at the scope, the first phase of work with to next is between 20 and 25 million dollars. 1B is the same. It's between 20 and 25 million dollars. To get that at 50 million dollar higher, decent and change the cost, but 50 is where we're looking to be with the with the awarded projects for 1A and 1B at LMS. >> Thank you. Anybody else? Any questions about all these exciting projects? >> I wasn't supposed to talk by the way. I came as eye candy. I'll play. So, Any Anything else? >> It might have been a question for Leo, I'm sorry about that, but I think

040you can answer. >> Garrett, I know the community has seen I really may just speak for you, Garrett. The community has seen some of the site work prep at the front of the school. We've taken some trees down. And can we anticipate I thought we talked about some staging maybe beginning to occur or is that not Not yet. Not until the con the con >> Not until the contractors are awarded, right? Once the prime is awarded, you'll start seeing some staging in the front and the and the back of the building. >> Got it. >> Um yeah, and site containment. So, you'll see all the site fencing going up to make sure no one can walk into the construction area. >> Thank you. >> We're good. >> I think so. >> Thank you. >> Waiting

041patiently to see how it turns out. Um thank you very much. Um I want to go back. I had uh in my remarks, I hadn't written this down, but Francesca reminded me. Um last time when we were together, uh we gave out uh various awards from the New York State School Boards Association, and um I have another one here at helping congratulate um Sophia Benitez, who is receiving a level one board achievement award from Nisba tonight, and a certificate of recognition. I made comments last time about how you proud's the wrong word, but how how we take personal development so seriously in our board work. So, um thank you all for the work you do in that way, and congratulations again, Sophia. Um that moves us on to policy. Um A, a first reading without

042revisions, so we don't need any action there. Um first reading with revisions, again first readings, we need no action. But we all know the drill but how we move forward with those. Item C, acknowledgement and approval of deleted policies, may I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. Um any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor, I. Opposed, abstention, motion passes. Thank you to the hard work of the policy committee really getting through an awful lot of stuff this year. Um next we'll move on to our new business. New business section of the agenda has several items for individual resolution approval. Documentation concerning these items have been provided to our board members in advance to assure an extensive and thorough review. Item B, acceptance of internal audit

043report on facilities use. May I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. Any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor? I. Opposed? Abstention? Motion passes. Item C, acceptance of the corrective action plan in response to internal audit on facilities use. May I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. Any discussion? I'll just say thank you to the audit committee who met on this couple of weeks ago and we had a little discussion about it last time. Thank you for your hard work on that. Um, all those in favor? >> I. Opposed? Abstention? Motion passes. Item D, bid award capital projects Author S. May. May I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank

044you. Any discussion or comments? >> I can just ask Kevin to speak a little bit about the specific project. Kevin, can you remind our community members of what this encompasses at Armac? >> So, Author S. May is like the preliminary phases to improving the the traffic flow down there. So, the first project will be to convert the existing tennis courts to parking for the transportation folks to try to bifurcate them from the building proper. The second the second part of of of what they're going to do down there um, this summer is to add additional driveway to the field side of the building so that um, cars that are doing kiss and go or pick up and drop off, however you'd like to describe it, they have an opportunity to get off Route 44, come

045down on our property, loop back around, and then come back and do the same function that they've done in the past. So, we're not really changing um their style, so we don't have to retrain the entire community. We're just giving them a longer runway. And then the third thing that will happen, probably later in the summer, would be the addition or a building of new tennis courts that will be on the field side, but on the front right corner of the property over by the car dealership if you were to face the for face the field. So, that's what's projected. Oh, and they're going to do uh more repointing of the building, so there's going to be a lot that will be done uh there as well. >> Yes, just this is anticipated to be

046taken care of over the summer, so that by the fall all of the new >> We almost structured it that way so that we could get the parking in place and uh and to affect the uh parent pick up and drop off so that it would be prepared. And if they And if the And if something lagged or something had to go longer than the 2 months, it would be the tennis courts, which should be theoretically out of the way from the normal function or at least be able to be isolated from the normal functioning of the building. >> Okay, thanks. >> And Kevin, just to clarify, there's an item on 10D and then also E that those separately encompass all the work that you described. >> I don't have the 10D and E in

047front of me. What are they basically? >> I think it was the two different bids. It was the bid It was the bid for the 826,000 for the um >> Yeah, the the construction the it's a broken into two pieces. One is the site work, which would be the parking lots that I discussed, and the and the and the brick work would be the general contractor, which would be the building. So, it's two pieces. Separate checks. >> Right. And so, Tetreault Check wrote wrote the letter about two pieces, but it's coming in two pieces into us. We have to resolve it because it's two different projects. Right. Okay. Now you got it. Uh any more discussion on that item or should we call for a vote? We're good? All those in favor? Abstention. Motion passes.

048Item E, bid award capital projects ASM site work. May I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. Any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor? I. Opposed? Abstention. Motion passes. Item F, civil service abolishment of position. May I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. Um any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor? I. Opposed? Abstention. Motion passes. Item G, certified instructional creation of position. May I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. Any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor? I. Opposed? Abstention. Motion passes. Item H, certified instructional abolishment of positions. May I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. Um any

049discussion? This is all in relation to the budget work we did, right? So this No, I just wanted to say that that this is about >> I was going to jump in on it is just my organization for the upcoming years. These are all the positions that were reflected in the reductions in the construction or development of next year's budget. They're also included in previous action that you've taken, just modifications that we've made, adjustments we've made overall to our staffing based on needs, budget neutral. So it's the time of the year where we do quite a bit of this, but H is specifically tied to the reductions that we made with the budget. >> I just wanted to make a comment because, you know, as I kind of go whipping through quickly, it's not that

050we, you know, haven't seriously considered all these things. It's just that >> I always want four months. >> Uh >> Abstention, motion passes. Item I, Civil Service creation of position. Can I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. Thank you. Um any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor? I. Opposed? Abstention, motion passes. Item J, the MOA CSEA contract. Can I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. Any discussion or comment? Seeing none, all those in favor? I. Opposed? Abstention, motion passes. Item K, settlement agreement. Can I please get a motion? >> So moved. >> Thank you. Thank you. Any discussion? Seeing none, all those in favor? I. Opposed? Abstention, motion passes. That brings us to our business consent agenda. Our consent section of

051the agenda lists several items for approval by a single motion. Documentation concerning these items have been provided to our board members in advance to assure an extensive and thorough review. Can I please get a motion on the consent agenda? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Um any comments or discussion on the consent agenda? Seeing none, all those in favor? I. Opposed? Abstention, motion passes. All right. >> I have a lot of pages. >> Yep, we do. I'm all the way to page 38. There you go. Um item 12, future discussion items. Does anybody have We don't have anything clear? I see a hand up. >> Um so, since we've had Maya for a school year. >> Mhm. >> entire year. I thought a a good uh future discussion item would be how

052to make the role of the student school board member more meaningful. Not that it hasn't been, but something let's enhance it, maybe. Um and I'd like to just expand on that. Um so they could be more active in the decision-making process, given more opportunities, maybe discussions on policies, um different things, curriculum, school climate. Again, as a school a student school board member, um mentorship from experienced board members, opportunities to speak regularly during our meetings, and so they can participate more confidently and effectively. Um while I love all what you said at the beginning, it'd be a great if going forward if if the student school board member would have uh you know, get more comfortable speaking maybe about the budget process during the budget process or ask questions like is money going to this or

053is money going to that or whatever. Um and also if they could uh perhaps, I know they're all in school, uh serve on committees, um or collaborate more with the administrators. That's my my feelings on this. Okay. So, >> Hello. >> Now, we'll do my little primer on future discussion items. So, thank you for sharing your feelings. Well, I'll get to share our feelings at the next meeting. So, next meeting when we come to future discussion items, we'll have a discussion about how much resources we want the board and or the administration or or how we would like to close out this proposal, right? Writers' Center. So, we can look forward to that and I'll probably touch base with Brenda to kind of see what she wants to go and we'll bring that in and

054if anybody else has anything they'd like to share with me that might make that more productive conversation next time, feel free to reach out. Um so, we will add that to, if you could, uh to the next our next agenda, um and which is the 9th. Uh June 9th. Which is actually fortuitous too because it'll be this last week, Marie. Okay. Um Anybody else have a future discussion item over here? Okay, seeing none, moving on. Item 13, we have no public comment still. Okay, that moves us on to committee reports. Um advocacy. >> Well, we kind of have a budget. Um it's coming in now in dribs and drabs, so the education piece of things has been touched. Um certain things have been nailed down in this past week, but they are not finished with

055education overall, um according to my contacts at Nisba, so this coming week there'll still be some finalization, but at least after all of these long long weeks and months, um there's been movement, so we're happy. >> Excellent. That's it. >> Thank you. >> Um audit. Okay, great. Cathy. >> Nothing at this time. >> Excellent. Policy. >> Uh next meeting is June 10th. It's our last meeting for the school year. >> All right. Okay, wrapping it up. Um that brings us to organization reports. Arlington Education Foundation. >> Uh just a reminder that the scholarship breakfast is Thursday, 7:15 is coffee, 7:30 is the actual start of the ceremony in the large group instruction. >> Right. Um that's just how we scoreboards. And maybe BOCES? Yeah. >> Yeah, just that the dinner for those of us attending

056is June 4th at MOD on College View Avenue. Um Fran, you saw Kelly's little jingle about so we're up to date from I didn't chime in because I thought you had that under control, so. >> Okay. >> That's it. We haven't had an actual meeting that would report anything out. >> Um PTA PTSA Council, um unfortunately I was unable to attend last Wednesday. Um I don't know, is there anything in particular that they were talking about? I know that their June meeting is generally their wrap-up dinner. Um uh but a shout-out to the PTAs and thank you for all your hard work this year. Um I'm sorry I wasn't able to hear but I know this is a fun time of year as they do all their stuff. >> I checked the meeting for my

057calendar. It was a school school event. Um so uh John presented a brief intro just on his uh committee that we're forming to look at um responsible technology use uh through next school year. There was an invitation offered uh for just uh individuals who are interested to come. So, that was uh probably most relevant to the um administration end. >> Yeah. >> Um and then the groups reported out on some of their activities that they're engaging in. A lot of end-of-year celebratory things which includes the PTSA Council dinner. >> And you know, I actually I really like that. I don't know that we've done an awful lot of that of bringing things specifically like that to that group. You know, we certainly bring it to those parents like they have people reach out to but

058in that forum necessarily. But I thought that that's a good idea. I'm sorry I was unable to to be there for that. Um District Health and Safety >> Uh we met I believe it was May 14th. Most of the meeting revolved around review and update on the district emergency plan. >> Okay. Thank you for that. Um District Equity >> Nothing new at this time. >> Okay. Um that moves us to the Superintendent's closing remarks. >> I just as uh Mary noted the state aid runs came out. Uh I think I noted this to the board in the Friday report. So, Kevin's estimation skills were uh just outstanding. Uh we were scheduled to receive uh $42,000 more than it looks like than what we had budgeted. Uh but still, when you consider the total amount of

059aid we received of being $90 million or so plus uh it's positive news, but I think the greater concern was that we wouldn't receive the aid amount that we had been budgeting for given that the budget wasn't finalized. So, we came in pretty much right at that mark. >> Excellent all around. That's great. Is that it for your remarks? Excellent. And then, so that moves us to board reflections. Does anybody have any reflections they'd like to share? Go ahead. >> Uh last week I attended Ms. Rice's final um early childhood development graduation. And so, a lot of future teachers up there. Uh my daughter was one of them. And it was just nice to see all the little kids and the big kids all together. It was great. >> It was great. I I actually

060I I did go too. And um I've never been invited to that particular thing before. So, I've I know that they have I don't think I've seen the little kids in the I've been into the classroom. I think a number of years ago we got invited in uh when they were working with the kids in the classroom. But it was kind of nice to see and it was nice to see um the parents you know usually when we come to the classroom we don't see the parents. So, it was interesting to see how they're really getting kind of what I recall was a preschool experience with sort of the awkward graduation moments and the kids staring and stuff. You know what I mean? So, it was it was very it was I was glad to

061get that opportunity to see. And I don't think I realized how young some of the children are. You know, that they serve. So, hats off to them. And and and to Stephanie Rice for congratulations on her retirement. Yes, Marian. Um Eileen and I circled through Sweek the Traver to the second grade museum walk which we tend to show up at every year as an alum of Trebur. I have a near and dear you know, want to be in that building so but it's just it's so much fun to watch these second graders present their work to anybody you know, the classrooms come through and the the other kids are trying to be great listeners and then the kids are showing off their all the information they've learned about their topic and it's it's just a

062fun space. It's very um I don't know. It's just it's good. What do you think Eileen? You right? >> It's one of my favorite things that we get to go to. You know, I jump right in of course. Um I got there right at the beginning cuz because I didn't I had to leave early early also so what I got to see this time was kind of a progression like kids are a little bit nervous the first time and then by the time I left you know, they're like whipping through their soccer or their guinea pigs or their cheetahs. Um so it's I just it's amazing. We've talked about this before as when we've gone through all the visits. It's amazing what first graders do. You know, I think you know, 100 years ago when

063I went to first grade we were like I think we were napping still. These kids are are you know, using science vocabulary and and they have a structure to follow but they really know their subject. It's it's I love that day. >> And the and the fun thing about it is part of the structure is at the very end they ask if you have any questions or comments. So they leave it wide open and and they get lots of compliments which I think boost them up also but they're very astute at answering the questions also like you know, if you say, "Well, what about this?" They're like, "Oh, wait." And they go back and they're like, "I did I did have that info You know, they're They're just so knowledgeable. I think it's a great

064way to bring kids on board for things like future science fairs and things like that where they become accustomed to asking and answering questions. It's It's It's cool. >> It's a rich >> And it's a real It's a relaxed atmosphere, so it feels good. >> Yeah. I'm sorry I messed up the show. Anybody else have a Brian? >> Through my crack detective work, I can confirm Vienna is the song for this year. >> Okay. Slow down you crazy child. Okay. Um anybody else for a reflection? Okay, seeing none. Can I please get a motion to adjourn? >> So moved. >> Thank you. Thank you. All those in favor? I. Opposed? Abstention? Motion passes. Meeting's adjourned. Woohoo.
