Good evening. I would like to call the June 18th meeting of the Carplace Board of Education to order. Please rise for the pledge. Welcome to the June 18th meeting of the Carplace Board of Education. We'll start, of the meeting with comments from the board and I will take the lead. Trustee Victoria Woods is not here tonight due to a personal matter. I'd like to welcome everyone to tonight's meeting. We have a full house. This is great. There are many recognition thank yous that's in order, so we'll be following suit soon. I'd like to say thank you to the Carplace Special Education PTA. They made a donation of $399. These funds will provide additional resources to support students with disabilities within the secondary life skills program. And now I'll hand it over to Trustee Grant. Well,

good evening, everybody, and thank you for coming to tonight's meeting. First of all, I want to congratulate everyone being recognized tonight. As we close our final Board of Education meeting of the school year, I want to take a moment to thank our community for your continued support and partnership, and I wish everyone a safe, happy, and healthy summer. I want to say welcome back to our sixth graders. We hope your days at Michaud were full of fun, friendship, adventure, and great memories. Now you're back and getting ready for your next big adventure, which is middle school. You've learned, grown, laughed, and made it through sixth grade like stars. We're so proud of you and excited to see you take on what's next. Middle school, here they come. A congratulations to all of our fine performing

arts students who received awards. Your talent, creativity, and hard work have truly shined through, and we couldn't be prouder. Congratulations as well to all our seniors. We are all proud of you. We are all proud of all that you have accomplished and wish you the very best in your future endeavors. Our congratulations to Ms. Delato on being selected as the Carplace School District's recipient of this year's NASSP Association of School Technology Recognition, or NASSP. This honor recognizes leaders in educational technology who integrate technology seamlessly and inspire others with their approach. I want to welcome Ms. Kate, Ms. Der-- Ms. Develio. I messed your name up. I am so sorry. And then Mr. Davala, Davala. Welcome to Carplace School District. It's a great pride bringing new talented individuals into our district, and we are excited to

have you join our school community. Thank you to each of you. It's really important work- Can you hear me? No. I should have spoken up sooner. Yeah. Okay. I just have a few words for our current president of the board, Vanessa Delmonico. This is her last meeting with us. As Vanessa concludes her service as president of the Board of Education, I want to thank her for her dedication, leadership, and commitment to the students, staff, and families of Carl Place. For the past three years, Vanessa has helped our board make its mark with pride, integrity, and honor. She has devoted countless hours to guiding us through important decisions, while always keeping the best interest of our students and district at the forefront. Her steady leadership, thoughtful perspectives, and commitment to public service has helped move our

district forward. Serving in this role is not always easy, and Vanessa has done so with professionalism, grace, and genuine dedication to our school community. On behalf of the board, thank you for your service, your partnership, and your many contributions to Carl Place. We wish you continued success, happiness, and all the very best in the future. And Vanessa, I hope to see you at future public meetings, continuing to share your insights and ask the important questions that help make our district stronger. Thank you. I'm going to pass it on to Trustee Duffin. Good evening, everyone. Thank you, Vanessa. Thanks everyone for being here tonight. Congratulations to our honorees. Welcome to Kate and her staff. It's a busy, but honestly very exciting time of year. I had the good fortune to spend some time in Rushmore this

morning. I'm not sure if you were aware, but a bunch of our fourth graders, well, fourth graders, became publishers this morning. So we had a publishing party. They wrote books. And one author, Greg George Dunphy, wrote a book about baseball. Actually, baseball was a hot topic in the books that were published. Amazing job done by all of our kids, teachers, staff. It was organized. Kids were pros, and they felt like it. It really showed. And, I just had a great morning over there at Rushmore, so let's give that shout-out. Yeah, looking forward to honoring so many of you tonight, and I'll pass it on. Good evening, everyone, and thank you for coming out tonight. I would first like to congratulate Mrs. Teresa Collado receiving the National Association of School Technologies Recognition Award. This is a

well-deserved honor, and we are proud of her accomplishment. Congratulations to all of the students being recognized this evening for all their hard work, dedication, and achievements. As we approach the final week of school, I would also like to extend my congratulations to all of our students reaching important milestones this year. Those graduating from pre-K, second grade, sixth grade, eighth grade, and of course, our seniors as they prepare for graduation. I wish all of our students, families, faculty, and staff a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer. Thank you, and congratulations to everyone being celebrated tonight. Good evening, everyone. The last day of classes for the middle school and high school was this past Monday. Students are now preparing for and taking their final exams and regents exams this week and next week. I want to wish all

of our students the best of luck as they finish out the school year. On Monday, June 8th, our athletic department hosted Varsity Spring Awards Night at 6:00 p.m., followed by our senior awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Students were recognized for their accomplishments and received awards and scholarships presented by our athletic booster club. It was a great evening celebrating our student-athletes. I would like to thank our athletic department, coaches, and community members who helped make this event possible. On June 4th and June 11th, our high school seniors volunteered their time to help with Rushmore Field Night. Thank you to all of our student volunteers for giving back and helping make the event such a success. This past Monday, our seniors had their senior barbecue and a walkthrough of all three schools. It was a great way

to celebrate the end of our senior year and our end of Carl Place. We even had a concert in the main lobby during our final period of high school, which made the day even more memorable for those who saw the video. I would like to thank all of our staff members and our PTA for their generous donations and support in making this event special for the class of 2026, especially Mr. Vella for hopping on the rink. For those who may not know, this is my final meeting serving on the Board of Education as a student representative, more formally known as an ex officio member. I would like to thank Dr. Cannone, Mr. Foraker, the Board of Education, and the rest of our district administration for allowing me to be a part of these meetings over

the past year and giving me this incredible opportunity. I hope Carolina and I were able to create a strong foundation for the future of our school lives, and I know the selected officers for next year will continue to represent our student body well. Thank you. We will now hear comments from Dr. Cannone. Thank you, Madam President. I will start by saying thank you to Luca and to Carolina. They worked very, very hard this year. They were always in contact with Mr. Foraker and me. They took their roles very, very seriously. It's been a pleasure working with you, sir, and it was a pleasure working with Carolina as well. It's wonderful to see that Mr. Foraker and I have a great group on deck for next year. I'm going to talk with the board about our

final lists on that. We have some wonderful students here who are going to keep up this tradition. Any of you who are younger, who aren't yet in high school or aren't yet seniors, your day will come. If you want to do this, we would love to have you. Um The testing is underway and has been for a long time. We are in the thick of Regents, so all of our high school and some of our middle school kids who are out there right now know that that's happening. It's a lot of work. Keep pushing, keep studying, and sharpening the saw before you actually get to the test. And in just a few days, you're going to be on summer vacation. Same for our younger kids. Don't take your foot off the gas yet. There's a

lot of fun in store, but we have a little bit more school to go. We have high school commencement next Friday. If we have excellent weather, and I'm hoping we do, we will be outside on the field. If we have poor weather, we'll be in here. And we have moving up all over the place for our UPK kids, our second graders, our Rushmore students, eighth grade going into ninth grade. It's a really, really lovely time. And I know we'll see loads of students and families here for that. It's a really great time to bring things to a close. I want to say a special note about one of our topics from last board meeting. That was the subject of ICT, integrated co-taught classes. We have been talking with parents in grades K, one, two, and

three about integrated co-taught class for this coming school year. We've been making contact with parents, so if anybody is wondering, has anything happened since the last time we had a board meeting? Lots of things have happened. It's a big process and good things are happening. I also want to make a note about our three new administrators. Ms. Payton for Rushmore, here with us. Dr. DiVirgilio for Humanities, who is here with us. And Mr. Davola for Technology, who is here with us. They went through a very difficult, very challenging process. From the beginning all the way to the end, we squeezed every possible drop of information out of them, and they were up against stiff competition, and they made it. And that's a really good thing. We look for the best, and we worked really hard

to find them. I also want to say a special thank you to our president, Vanessa Donmonaco. You may not know that superintendents and board presidents have a lot of communication with each other. That is true all over Long Island. It's been a tradition here in Carle Place long before me or Dr. Finn or Mr. Flatley, that the board president and the superintendent talk every single day. So Vanessa and I have literally spent hundreds and hundreds of hours talking to each other over the past year from July all the way up until now. And we have a few more conversations still in us. Every day at 4:00, we have talked and checked in and worked our way through all sorts of things. We've had conversations well after dark and before dawn on days and moments when

things had to get done off schedule. I can say the amount of work and care and love that you have put into this job is tremendous. I've learned a lot from you. We've learned a lot together. We've talked about some very serious things. We've had a few good laughs with each other along the way. And I thank you for investing so, so much of yourself in leading the board, leading us in the cabinet, and representing all of your constituents, the children, and the families of Carle Place. Thank you, Madam President. And I'll make one other note. We're going to have a slight change in our program tonight, and that is to say that we're going to have our SCEPTER recognitions first, and then we'll follow along with the rest of our program. And with that,

I'll hand over back to our president. Thank you. I just wanted to say that it was a privilege to sit on the board to give back to our community. Particularly, personally for myself, I'm a Carle Place alumni, graduated in 1981 and had six other siblings that graduated from this high school as well. So it was a phenomenal experience, and thank you, everyone. On a repeated note, I would like everyone to stand that's starting with our district tonight. So in the audience today we have Melissa Payton. Please stand. We have Dr. Michelle DiVirgilio. And we have Michael Davola. And we also have in the audience Morley Allen, who's starting as well. So thank you and welcome. Thank you. And now we will continue. Before we have public comments on the agenda, Vice President Reardon will read

the public comment slate. The Board of Education allows time at the conclusion of its regular meetings for comments from residents in attendance. Please note that any person wishing to speak during this time shall comply with all provisions of board policy. Although a total of 30 minutes is allowed for comments, the board president has discretion to adjust the total time. We remind you to keep your comments to three minutes and to conduct yourself in a respectful manner. Please address school matters only and refrain from addressing topics related to personal matters or individual students. Such concerns should be discussed privately with the superintendent or administrator at an appropriate time. The board is here to listen and cannot provide immediate feedback or engage in open dialogue. Any necessary follow-up will be noted and provided at a later date.

Thank you. Are there any public comments regarding the agenda items only? Please come up to the podium and state your name and address. Okay, we will continue on with the recognitions. I will hand it over to Dr. Cannone. Okay. Thank you very much. So our first recognitions will be our SEPTA recognitions. Our SEPTA president, Ms. Anna Maruzzi, is here with us. She's going to head up to the podium, and I would ask for all of our recognitions, and there are a lot of them tonight, hold our applause, please, until we've read all of the names. Thank you very much. Good evening. My name is Anna Maruzzi, and I am the president of SEPTA. Good evening. My name is Anna Maruzzi, and I'm the president of SEPTA. I'm very proud to be here tonight. Our goals

this year were presence, inclusion, and community service. We want our students and their families to know we hear you, we see you, we appreciate you. With the help and support from Ms. Tizio, Mr. Randazzo, Ms. Plasmen, Dr. Cannone, Dr. Molnar, Ms. Sussman, Mr. Pooreacre, and the Board of Education, our students were able to accomplish so many things this year. The following is a list of their accomplishments. Back to school night at each building. Membership drive. Two Shredathon fundraisers. Parent university. Preparing desserts at Ronald McDonald House for residents. Sandwiches for St. Bridget's Community Meal. Their day of service, they were making sandwiches for Lorenzo's Closet at St. Bridget. The washing and prepping of alms for altar servers at St Bridget's. Goodie bag assembly for Hicks Night, and handing out candy at Trunk or Treat. Wow, right?

Well, if you think that's a lot, wait until you see what we have in store for next year. I am honored to present these amazing students with certificates in recognition of their dedication and contributions. Ms. Tizio, would you like to come up and help me? Liam Gonsalves. Michael Palladino. Jason Persandy. Daniel Romano. Ryan Sarabia. Yeah, Ryan. Ethan Hahn. Elizabeth Lipera. Gianna DiMarco. Ryan Osa. Dylan Santos Santiago. Daniel Green. Andres Solano Flores. Jack DeOliveria. Victoria Monteforte. Amira Gleason. Victoria Lee. Zoe Sealing. Chauncey Watts. Simon Giglio. Isaac Grande. Giovanni Santos Santiago. Wilmer Climaco. Yuraj Kumar. Thank you so much. Thank you, Ms. Marizzi. We appreciate your help. Our next presenter will be Mr. Alan Kohriger, coming up to present the Advanced Placement Capstone Award, as well as Ms. Melissa Cantari to present on Seal of Biliteracy and

Seal of Civic Rights. Good evening, everyone. Central Administration and Board of Education, thank you for having us here this evening. Again, to Vanessa, thank you very much for everything, especially me personally, and Luca, outstanding job. It was a pleasure. So, a little bit of background on the AP Capstone Diploma. It represents the pinnacle of academic achievement. To earn it, these students had to have passed four AP exams, plus the prestigious two-year capstone sequence. First, AP Seminar, and then AP Research. In AP Research, they design an independent project culminating in a 4,000 to 5,000-word paper and oral defense, basically like a mini dissertation. What makes this truly meaningful is that AP research is an elective. These students chose to take the class. They chose the rigorous work, the revisions, the persistence required to see a major

project through, and they are certainly better for it. Congratulations to our AP Capstone Diploma recipients. Their names are, first, Olivia Abbiatiello. Next, Juliana D'Alessandro. Lorelei Gorman. Lucas McElroy. And finally, last but not least, Mr. Jack Walsh. Congratulations to all of you. I want to recognize the students who have earned the New York State Seal of Biliteracy, which honors their high-level proficiency in English and at least one additional language. To achieve this, they had to maintain high academic standing in their English classes, pass rigorous language proficiency exams, and successfully present a culminating project in their chosen language. These students have proven that they can read, write, speak, and listen with confidence across cultures. This seal reflects a massive amount of dedication, and I'm thrilled to celebrate them tonight for their academic excellence and for helping build

a more connected world. Our first recipient is Giovanna Carrillo. Jaren Medez. And Sebastian Reynoso. Finally, we have our New York State Seal of Civic Readiness recipients. These students have demonstrated not only academic achievement, but also a true commitment to civic engagement and responsibility. To earn the seal, they had to complete advanced social studies coursework, a civics project, and participate in meaningful community service or work-based learning. They have learned how government works, how to make their voices heard, and how to actively contribute to our communities. This seal is more than just a symbol on a diploma. It is proof that these students possess the skills and values of strong civic leaders. Our first recipient is Alessio Abatiello. Olivia Abatiello. Serena Assan. Giovanni Perillo. Isabella Cesario. Luca D'Arpino. And Justin Lai. Congratulations to all our recipients. I

am fortunate enough to have the chance to do several of the recognitions myself tonight. I'm very excited to do that, if I can do it without throwing the certificates all over the room. Carl Place is fortunate to have excellent partners in SEPTA and in PTA. They do a tremendous amount of work on behalf of students all over the district. I get the chance to work with all of them, both on the building level and also through the PTA council, and it's a real genuine pleasure to award them tonight. Our first up is our Cherry Lane PTA president, Ms. Alexis Kemps. Next, we have our Rushmore PTA co-presidents. Our Rushmore PTA co-presidents, Ms. Christina Bosey and Ms. Katerina Short. Next, we will talk about our district-wide PTA and SEPTA leaders. Our SEPTA president, Ms. Anna Maruzzi.

Thank you for all you do on behalf of our students. And then last, but by absolutely no means least, our middle school, high school president and PTA council president for the district and incoming board member, Ms. Kimberly River. And I also want to make sure that we recognize Lisa D'Arpino, our high school president. We have several other folks who are essential in the work that we do, and I want to recognize our safety team member, health council member, and parent member, Ms. Luann Bonome. Ms. Bonome is currently with us tonight because she's actually part of a blood drive tonight, which is another one of her passions in life. So the giving does not stop, which is pretty awesome. I also want to recognize two people who are essential members of our Carl Place community, who

I'm not sure if they're with us tonight, but they are the president and director of CP Senior Citizens, Mr. John Heslin, and Mrs. Barbara Heslin. It's a pleasure welcoming you both. We have another member who can't be with us tonight. That is our "Taps" performer for Flag Day. If you've ever been to one of our Flag Day ceremonies, it is very stirring to hear "Taps" which is the song that is played in memoriam for the soldiers who have given their lives for the country. And that is Mr. Edwin Muller. And two more very special community partners, Mr. Chris and Mrs. Darcia Padilla. Moving into our next very important group here in Carl Place, and that is the audit committee. For those of us who might not know, the audit committee is an outside group of

citizens who help us make sure that all of our finances are handled in strict accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, and that our auditors are always on the lookout to make sure that everything we do is correct and by the book. And they put in a lot of time reading some very dense documents with Ms. DiMartino and me. And the first one I want to recognize is Mr. John DiFrusco, also a former board member. Our next audit committee member is Ms. Nancy Kingston. And of course, Mr. Larry Zino, who is our former board member and board president. And between John, and Nancy, Larry, Joanne, and me, we get the job done and she knows it very well. Thank you very much, John. Thank you for being here. Many of our seniors who are here tonight

are scholarship winners and have been through the scholarship process. If you know anything about that, because your child's been through it or as a student yourself, that takes place over the course of many nights here at the district. Students come in, they present themselves, answer a very rigorous set of questions. We see a lot of nervous faces on the way in and a lot of happy faces on the way out. It's one of the most fun things that Mr. Horiger and I get to do because you're just fundamentally doing something good for our students. And there are a number of people who volunteer a lot of time to help make that happen. So the first person I want to welcome up is Ms. Ellen Crystal. Next, we have Mr. Paul Clary. Also, Ms. Trisha Delio.

Trisha can't be here tonight. I see her almost every day walking her dog. Other essential members of the scholarship committee are Mr. Bob Ivose. And the two driving forces behind the scholarship committee are Mr. Anthony Pizza and Mrs. Dorothy Pizza. Next up are our athletic recognitions, led by our athletic director, Mr. Justin Block. Hi, welcome everyone. First and foremost, thank you to the board and central administration, and Vanessa, thank you very much for everything. I still look forward to sitting next to you courtside when we do some NBA games. All right. Now, we might be a small district, but there is a ton of talent in this auditorium right now. And because of the talent that I see in front of us, I know for years to come that we're going to be successful in

athletics. But right now, at your age, it's not necessarily the most important thing that you're the most talented person. It's important that you're a good person. And with your coaches, we have three categories, sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork. And they were picked by your coaches for the athlete that best exemplifies that character trait. May I have a motion to approve the Board of Education business meeting minutes of June 4th, 2026? Motion. May I

have a second? All in favor? The minutes of the June 4th are approved. May I have a motion to approve the Board of Education special meeting minutes of June 11th, 2026? Motion. May I have a second? Second. All in favor? The minutes of the June 11th are approved. We are having a public hearing on the amended code of conduct 2025 to 2026. Would anyone like to come to the podium and speak? Okay, we will now go to the consent agenda. May I have a motion to approve the consent agenda? Motion. Second. All in favor? Aye. The consent agenda is approved. May I have a motion to approve resolution 6.3 which reads, "Appeal of short-term suspension. Whereas on or above June 4th, 2026, the Board of Education received an appeal of a short-term suspension imposed by

the principal of Carl Place Middle and High School from a parent of a student listed in confidential Schedule A, Student. And whereas the Board of Education has considered the appeal based upon the relevant facts and circumstances and records submitted to the board. Now, be it resolved that the Board of Education hereby upholds the short-term suspension and the penalty imposed upon the student in its entirety, and be it further resolved that the Board of Education authorizes the district clerk to send a letter to the student's parents notifying them of the Board of Education's determination and their right to appeal such determination." May I have a motion? Motion. May I have a second? Second. All in favor? Aye. The ayes outweigh the nays. All against. Resolution 6.3 is approved. Any questions or comments from the public? Come

to the podium and state your name and address. Hello, good evening. In the spring, I had foiled the Carl Place administrator's contract, and to my knowledge, it has expired. The contract that I received was only until 2024. So my question is, is the contract of Carl Place administrators renewed, and that's it. Thank you. So, Ms. Brenner, we concluded our negotiations, and the contract is in the process of being approved and being ratified by CPAA, and then we will take care of it on our end. But it is in fact progressing. Okay. So I guess two small scale things. Yeah, it's pretty normal for negotiations to take place after a contract expires. There's something called the Taylor Law- Right ... which means that the conditions of that contract remain in place until the new contract is

approved. So everything is progressing correctly. Okay. No, I just asked because in many of the last few meetings, there have been many benefit increases for central administration. So many of the community members are asking, "Do our administrators and teachers get the same benefits or luxurious contracts?" So me being a voice and people texting, I'm just doing my part. Very good. We negotiated a fair contract with CPAA. Okay, excellent. Thank you very much. Thank you. Are there any questions or comments from the public? Come to the podium and state your name and address Six star name in one place. I just have a question. Could the board or panel provide the total value of benefits and associated contributions for the contracts that were enacted? That would close it. So, Mr. Deli, I just want to make

sure I understand what you're asking. Are you asking which contracts or which agreements are you asking about? The five, four that were posted on last agenda and the one that's posted on this agenda. So you're talking about the benefits agreements- Yes ... right? Not collective bargaining agreements. Exactly. Yes. Are you asking sort of for us to prepare a chart that explains how all that works? Like- The total cost of benefits to the district. Mm-hmm. In the health insurance retirement contributions. What I would suggest is we can help you with that. If you can please maybe put it in writing for us so it's specific, then we can get that done, of course. Send it to you guys? Yeah, that would be great. All right. Thank you. You're very welcome. Are there any questions or comments

from the public? I want to just make one more comment for you, Mr. Deli. We post that information each year. It's on a lag, so it takes a little while for it to get done. So just, I want the public to know that we make that information accessible. But if you send us an email, we'll get that taken care of. Will do. Thank you. You're welcome. Are there any other questions or comments from the public? Can I have a motion to adjourn tonight's meeting? Motion. All in favor? Aye. So moved. Second.
