Wednesday. Yeah. >> If the school board does want me to take anything to it, I'm welcome >> any input. But >> that's for the foundation. >> Yes, that's for the foundation. >> How' the trivia night come out? >> Well, well, neither team was, so you know, not that great, I guess. >> I do know I talking to foundation. I'm sure Mr. We'll find out more. Uh it was a great event. Um the administration eaked out a victory eaked out by the last question by one question. >> At one point >> by one point a victory over the school board. So uh the traveling trophy will remain in district boy's office for another year. So and that's all I'll say about that. >> You sure? >> I am good. >> [snorts] >> Um redevelopment uh got
cancelled this month for lack of agenda. So nothing to report there and building trades will meet the force. So we'll have something for the next meeting. >> Yep. All right. So with that we will move on to item five which is our consent agenda items. Um 5.1 is personnel and 5.2 Two is approval of accounts payable dated November 10th, 2025 and payroll dated October 31st, 2025. Anything we need to highlight this evening? >> There is not. >> All right. So, with that, the consent agenda items are approved as presented. So, with that, we will now move on to our action items. Um, seven of them this evening. Uh so we will begin with uh item 6.1 approval of the 202526 teacher contract. Dr. M. >> So you have you have before you the proposed teacher
contract. It was ratified um two weeks two weeks ago on on Wednesday. We had our public meeting a week ago um today on at 8 o'clock. So we've met the legislative requirements. All that remains is for the approval of the board. >> Okay. Thank you. So, with that, um, I will ask for a motion and a second, uh, to open up the item for discussion and ultimate voting. >> I move for the passage of item 6.1, approval of the 202526 teacher contract. >> I'll second. >> Moved by Mr. Glick, seconded by Mr. Goodman. Comments, questions from the board on the contract was summarized by Miss Noey a little bit ago. Anything additional you want to ask about that? Well, I'll say go ahead. >> Uh, I I read through most of it early summarized it
and went through the summary and it it looks like it's wellrounded. I think you guys did a good job. >> Thank you. And I'll say I appreciate the collaboration both between GA and and the district as we tried to continue to do what's right for everyone in the long term here with continued uncertainty with what may or may not occur with funding as we move forward. Um, you know, I'll say I've appreciated the comments I've gotten from some of the educators that came up and said, you know, we continue to be in a an unknown scenario what's going to happen. So they they appreciate what we're able to do, but understand there's still work for us all to do together. So appreciate those comments. So anything else for board members before we vote? All right,
we have a motion and a second on the floor. Board members, all those in favor, please raise your hand and say I. >> I. >> Oppos. Same sign. That passes 70. Item 6.2 Two is approval of pay dates related to new contract. >> Following the approval of the 256 contract, we're requesting to issue a retroactive pay um for the new contract payste.2. I'll move for the passage of item 6.2, approval of pay dates related to the new contract. >> Second. >> Moved by Mr. Glick, seconded by Mr. Garber, I guess. Uh, any questions, comments regarding uh the dates related to the new contract. >> All it means is it's just back pay to begin the school year. >> Correct. >> That the same check. Is it a separate check? taxpayer check >> same day. >>
Yes. Um retro pay will be on the 21st and then we have a regular schedule pay date on the 28th. So teachers will see their first full new contract pay on that 28th. >> Other questions, comments? Seeing none, we have a motion, a second on the floor. All those in favor, please raise your hand and say I. I oppose same sign passes 70. All right. Item 6.3, approval of classified wages. Stixson, Dr. Metaf, >> all the sticks and take this. >> Um, you have the new classified wage scales for your review and approval. As Miss No mentioned, um it's a 50 cent staff increase. Um and for employees that have been with us for 120 days during the year, they will also move up the step on that scale as well. >> Okay. Thank you
for that. Uh so board members, I'll take a motion and a second to open for discussion and voting. >> I'll move for the passage of item 6.3, approval of classified wage scales. moved by Mr. Glick, seconded by Mr. Goodman. So, quite a few documents here. Um, standard from what I've seen year-over-year. Any, I guess, questions, comments from the board currently, shaking heads, ready to vote. Okay, we have a motion to second the floor for item 6.3. All in favor, please raise your hand, say I. I I oppose same sign passes 70. Thank you. Moving on to item 6.4 approval of other salaried employee wage scales. So these are the wage scales for everyone not covered by the uh teacher contract, the certified or the classified. So these are our administrators, our directors um and some
other miscellaneous support um positions around the district. Okay, thank you for that. Board members, may I have a motion and a second for item 6.4? >> I move for the approval of other salivated employee wage scales. All >> moved by Mr. Garber, seconded by Mr. Goodman. Um, I know we got an updated copy here this afternoon. Just taking a quick cander. Is this the one that got updated or am I >> That is the one that got updated. >> Okay. I just wanted to make sure. >> So, the difference in one of the one of the things that um Miss Dixon was charged with was creating salary ranges. Um so, we've created salary ranges and the goal is to um get our our our um positions to the median. So, um some that were already
close to the median or at or above the median um you might see received um less of an amount than than the other than the standard. M Dixon is did I present that? >> Yeah. So the goal was the median is a proficient employee. So we have the goal to get everybody to that point and Mr. was wanted to make sure that is the teachers the most that was also carried forward to our Okay. Other questions from the board. It's not quite it's not oriented right. So just trying to make sure because it was two pages before you were just able to get it all on one page. So that's when just making sure Okay. Other questions, comments? As board members are reviewing this, I think you said that the average was a 1.9 >>
increase. Okay. questions, comments as people are reviewing it. Are we ready to vote on other salary positions or employee wage scales? Okay, we have a motion and a second on the floor for item 6.4. All those in favor, please raise your hand and say I. >> I post same sign. This is 70. [clears throat] Okay. Item 6.5 is the 2026 paid holidays for 52 week employees. holiday. >> Okay, thank you for that. I'll take a motion and a second for item 6.5. >> I'll move for the passage of item 6.5 2026 paid holidays for 52- week employees. >> Second move by Mr. Glick, seconded by Mr. Goodman questions on that. Um, we have total of 12 paid holidays. Am I seeing that correctly? Any questions, comments? >> So from now on, you'll see this in
January. So we will not bring you a half a year in July like we did this year. So this will get us next year. Gota appreciate that. So this Yeah, this gets us all the way through 2026. Okay, I have a motion and a second the floor. All those in favor, please raise your hand and say I. I oppose. Same sign. That's 70. >> Okay. Item 6.6 approval of office closed to the public for 2026. M. >> Yes. office still working if they choose to work but close to the public so that we don't have station. >> Okay, with that explanation, uh may we have a motion and a second for item 6.6? Move for the passage of item 6.6, approval of offices closed to the public for 2026. >> Moved by Mr. Glick, seconded
by Mr. Goodman. I I think I'll make the comment I made last time. I think as long [clears throat] as we have a way for people to if they do show up, they need something, they have some way to communicate. So, if it's a sign we put on the door, I think we did that. >> Just want to make sure we need to be available because we are still technically open. >> Yeah. And we are. Yes. And we are available also um by phone, but also if if somebody does show up, no one will be turned away, right? Um it just those were those weeks were weeks where we had a number of people taking vacation at the same time and we're not necessarily to be honest, they were manned by substitutes. A lot of
times this allows us to um allow these people to take the vacation and still man without without the public expecting full service during that time. >> We did get >> correct. Agreed. I think it's a great idea. >> Yeah. >> Other comments, questions on item 6.6. >> Okay, we have a motion and a second on the floor. All those in favor, please raise your hand and say I. >> I. Oppose. Same sign. passes 70. And finally, item 6.7, instrument usage fee assistance. Dr. M. >> So, in in July, we p the board um approved a fee of [clears throat] $50 per semester. Um because it was so late and people had signed up for classes. Um you know, we the orchest the music department was able to provide us a list of stu of students
who are using our instruments or renting our instruments. Um so uh we did not approve a mechanism for how we would get re um provide relief for uh for families who need it. And so in addition to that um because it was such a late adoption, we we would like to wave that $50 fee for first semester for this year and put it in place for next semester. If someone has paid already, which a couple people have, we did check that out. That money will be applied to next semester's fee. um if they've paid for the entire year, we would then reimburse that. But what we were are asking is that students who qualify um for free free uh lunch for the free level of the free lunch um would be $10 a semester. Um
those students who qualify for assistance at the reduced level would be $25 per semester. Um this this would allow us to have an objective measure instead of just doing it at by um someone requesting and then us having decide the Great enough. This is a this is a nice objective measure that we've used for other things in the past when when the state had textbook rental or curriculum material fees. So that is what we are requesting. >> Okay. Thank you, sir. Uh with that, do we have a motion and a second to open up for discussion and voting? >> I move for the passage of item 6.7, instrument usage fee assistance. >> Second move by Mr. Seconded by Mr. Goodman. Questions, comments? >> Does this take into consideration multiple uh kids like family has multiple?
>> It does. So last year as a benchmark um I just we I had um finance tell us how much we spent with um Quinnland who does our instrument rental and repairs. So just instrument rental and replacement and repairs last year was $84,000. Um that's a large amount that um with some of the changes to Senate with Senate Bill one coming on board because it does get paid for out of operations um we feel like we do need to try to collect some of that something it's not going to cover near that amount but it is it is something and we just will have to continue to review how we do the instrument usage and and replacement as we go forward. Those are some things I'm sure Mr. and and our team will be bringing
to you to for some consideration once we have some a plan. >> How many students I guess roughly are would fall into the category of of renting an instrument >> renting or usage because the usage piece is also like some of our larger instruments, our double bases, our drums. We have they use our sets here which do develop wear and tear. Um it's right around I believe it was a little over 200 and some um when you consider when you consider um the band and the orchestra um because we do that we do have instruments available for both. Um we do not to be honest we do not have enough instruments for everyone who wants one to rent one. A lot of times it is first come first serve. So that is something else we
will be probably looking at is how do we make sure that the ones who need need it and assistants have the first have the ability to get to access those instruments before >> and I'll be honest that number is far lower than I would have ever imagined considering we start in fifth grade. Correct. >> Yeah. Um but since the instruments stay here they're reused. So, >> but yeah, this I I guess I would have assumed many more students would be >> would fall in the category of maybe needing to be >> use the fee. Uh you think how many students are in Yeah. >> music related Yeah. things. >> So, is the $50 fee a rental fee or is it on top of a rental fee? >> It is. It is. It's a usage fee.
>> Technically, we don't we don't rent instruments. Um we allow them to use our instruments because If they're damaged, we we pay for the repairs or or things like that. If they rent from Quinn Quinn Quinnland and Fabish, which is where most of our instruments come from, that rental fee that they they um offer, and I know Jav is dealing with this right now, has a $5 fee, monthly fee that covers insurance. So, if any there's any breakage or anything like that, we [clears throat] are just to the point where as we replace instruments um and as we as instruments need repaired, um it is It's a lot more expensive than I think other people realize. We just want to, as Mr. Boy said, want to make sure people have some skin in the game.
>> Are we getting insurance on our instruments as well? You said the rental program has insurance. Do we have insurance to cover? >> No, we're not because there are our own. We just That's what this would do is for that. This would be kind of covering some of the repairs if you're using one of our instruments. Um, renting is a our instruments is kind of a misnomer um because we don't really rent them. We just allow them to use it. So, this really pays for them to um for the wear and tear on the instruments we have and and to if possible to put aside a little bit to start saving for replacement of those instruments. It varies probably depending on what instrument you're talking about. Like band instruments like a decade a long time
for wear and tear on something like that. >> Well, it depends. We've had we've had some people, you know, um sit on a set on a trumpet and bend it and then you have to send it out for repair. >> Uh I would say your brass your brass and your woodwind instruments um do last longer. probably longer than but of course you have every so every so many years and I I'm not fluent in this but your pads have to be replaced those types of things that are just general that break down over time um but an instrument can last I mean you know I've had I know my brother had his trombone for 20 years and you know again that's something that doesn't have a lot of lot of pads or moving parts but
so some of our instruments will last but some of them just from basic wear and tear need repairs or replacement more more frequently. Uh strings, the string instruments, string replacement that helps pay for string replacement as those break. Uh the bows as the bows need to be rerung, those types of things. So there's a number of different repairs that are that we have ongoing questions. Just for my own understanding, the uh the uniform sits a totally different >> the uniform is a is a totally different piece. Yes, that is not [clears throat] uniform and that is something I think we'll be talking about here in the near future. I know um you know I I believe there is a and I don't know this for sure. I know for marching band there is a fee
that is charged. Um one of the things we we're investigating right now is what does that fee go to? Does that go for uniform rental? If so, repair. If so, are are we banking some of that so that it's not going to we're not going to have to pay that large price all at on all of it at once because we've been kind of getting or do we use it every year? So, those are some questions that we we'll be we'll be looking into as we as we discuss this with with the music department. >> Just want to note that you have a family and three of your kids are in March, they're getting fees for It's It is not a It is not a cheap um extracurricular. >> I'd say all of our extracurriculars
have gone up in the fees. It's I would a lot of things unfortunately. Yeah. Any additional comments or questions before we move forward with voting? Seeing none, we have a motion and a second on the floor. All those in favor, please raise your hand and and say I >> oppose. Same sign. Passes 70. Thank you. That brings us to the end of our action items tonight and we will move forward to discussion items and we will start with item 7.1, school board meeting dates 2026. >> In the memo before you, I believe you have the dates. Um again, it's the second fourth Monday of the month. um except for in May, June, July, November, and December, there are only one meeting. It's the first meeting of the month. Other than that, it pretty much mirrors
the current one. >> I'm going to ask I assume nothing falls on a holiday or it's been adjusted for holidays. >> Nope, nothing. M Miss Mccrenle has been very very thorough in this one and so we appreciate that. I can't remember if they did publicize it when we were I thought they did, didn't they? >> Yes. >> I think the dates of 26 are actually in October. >> Yeah, >> I think it's like October 5. Correct. It's much later. I think you're right. Yeah. So, yeah, just Yeah, we have to adjust. We have to adjust or we we may not be able to adjust because we're in budget season then. >> Budget unfortunately ISBA maybe didn't think of that. Budget is kind of an important time for districts. So, so I guess board members, I
mean, let's take some time to review this. If for some reason we see there's an issue with this um having only one meeting in December or actually one more meeting yet this year um we need to look to approve something uh because we need to publish the dates um as I just found the dates of when the ISBA conference is good job team >> okay we'll be fine then >> y >> um but we need to approve our meeting dates in December so that we can get all the proper legal notices out uh for the year especially for our first meetings in January. So um [clears throat] this follows the cadence that we have been following for many years now um with uh the meeting schedule. So, I guess take some time. If you see
issues with it, let's communicate them over the next couple weeks so that we can uh determine if a change needs to be made. So, fair enough. >> Yes. >> Okay. Thank you. Just one one thing. I know we discussed this before when this was implemented, those executive sessions. >> I I still struggle understanding what the point of saying they will be scheduled after each one, but they'll be cancelled if they're not needed when no cancellations really happen. They just never been announced and we rarely ever had executive sessions. What does it need to be in there or should we just say, "Hey, if one's needed, we'll schedule one after the meeting." It's just written oddly for the fact that we so rarely ever have executive sessions. >> I think Mr. I think Mr. Deo one
of the one of the thoughts of that is that if if one were to pop up just everyone would kind of plan that hey just know that after the board if one pops up it's going to be after the board meeting just kind of like that. So that you know I I kind of I understand what you're I understand what you're saying and I think that's I mean we can definitely um I can we can definitely talk about that and see if there's a different way to say that um because we would still have to post it 48 hours to >> right you still have to announce it. still have to tell the board, hey, we're going to have it. It's still got I mean, >> it's still got to be posted, >> but we're
not actually canceling meetings every month. I don't think at least I never got a notice of canceling. >> I don't think we're canceling. I think >> we did actually plan for it. >> No, I think I think I think his his thought process was just save the time and so >> I think you word it differently saying um there is the opportunity if need be to have executive sessions. I mean, you know, something that's so >> we kind of already know that, right? Does that have to be voted on? I mean if we need an executive session we very well >> I I think his logic is because there has to this gets this is our our opportunity to legally post it so that the primarily the goa news has been made aware >> I'm
not he's not here to speak to it but I think that's a lot of this this is our our chance to put out all the state required notices there was I'm seeen by Terry session. We'll try to do it while you're here. And yes, we can a little bit differently. possibility. [clears throat] >> So, we can work on maybe how that's worded a little bit. So, >> yep. >> Okay. Any other questions on that? All right. The thing we've all been waiting for on the agenda here is item 7.2, disc golf course at Gan Intermediate School. So, you guys have been patient. So, thank you very much. So, Mr. Lancor reached out to us about a month or so ago um with an idea that had been percol percolating. Um and so, uh Mr. Ritter,
our director of facility ground building and facilities and maintenance, met with Mr. and um myself to kind of go over a proposal. Um so I I informed you about that the last board meeting that um Daniel would be Mr. Lord would be coming and I believe he's brought a guest so I'll let him introduce and then proceed. >> I brought the brains with me. Um um I'm a sixth grade teacher at GIS. I'm one of the originals to open the building and we've had this age-old question of what do we do with all this area that's around the school that's just kind of sitting there. And so I posed a question to some of the kids in my class and said, "Well, what do you think we could do?" And this is Eli Gerber and
he is going to um say what he and some other kids have come up with and then I'll be able to follow up with any other questions and research that we've done too. Um, this is our proposed layout of the course. >> I got it. We're good. [laughter] >> We're good. >> Um, this is our proposed layout of the course. It's created by students at GIS and by Jason Samuel, uh, the Indiana State Representative for PDGA, uh, the Pro Disc Golf Association. >> [clears throat] >> Um, reason number one is disc golf is an outdoor sport that is gaining popularity. It requires low impact and contact while still having the positive aspects of other sports like exercise and mental focus. Um, another reason for this course is it could also be used for PE class,
after school clubs, and the general go community. Another reason for this course will be that the newly made Goan College disc golf club to put put this course to use for practicing. This course may also have fundraising opportunities. This is the flood plan and places in the red that will have certain restrictions for where the te's and baskets will be. We'll slow down for just a second. Um, backing up to here. Um we kind of talked about some of the different things um that this could be used here. There's a lot of open space. Um and some of the biggest questions that um were asked is um what about storm water? Because GIS has that history, doesn't it? So um we've actually been in communication with the city. Um they both they got back to
us real quickly. Um the picture on the left is the markings that public um use has to be taken in consideration for distance away from roads and property lines. And then just today I got the map on the right from Jason Kaufman who's storm water and his um the they basically said we need to be aware of these areas but there's nothing that we would be doing that would be cause for concern for um flooding or impeding the flow of water provided we're not like right on top of a pipe or a drainage ditch. Um so some of the things that we've come up with then um in considering this the nine holes would be um permanently installed. They'd be concreted into the ground so they cannot move. Um that would not impede water. Um
they're then locked into the sleeve so they don't come out unless you want them to. Um they'd be placed around the school per um Mr. Samuel's thoughts because then that brings people close into cameras if needed. Um, school functions have priority. Um, courses unavailable during school hours with signage. Um, the big overall goal is this. Um, is this is an activity that all fifth and sixth graders can do multiple times a year through PE and through offerings after school. Um my hope would be to eventually have it offered as an inter mural league um after school where there would be actually be people coming to compete and keep track of scores and just kind of with all the different courses around go this seems like the perfect use of the property in order to then
let them go to the other courses. Um, it was asked me like, "Well, couldn't you go to the church by at the junior high? Couldn't you go to Mullet Park?" And my response was, "It's pretty hard to take that many kids over that way in the busing, but it's pretty easy to walk five minutes outside." Um, some of the people and things we've looked at and worked with, um, we've talked to the city. Um, Jason Samuel has been a very big, um, component and helper. he's worked out. He's talked to Inova, a major disc golf company, and we have like we have very good pricing if we wanted to go forward. Um, he also has very um interest in what Goan might be able to do just with his newly position at Goan College having
like almost a direct pipeline. Um, I've actually talked to George Blessing. He installed a course at North Webster Elementary. Um, I just talked to him the other day and at Grace College and so I was able to kind of pick his brain for things to look for and pitfalls or other things they came up with and I actually talked to uh Lee Snder who is the principal at Northwesterbster and he had nothing but positive things to say about that change. Um, he said it actually cleaned up his school. Um, it got rid of a lot of people even camping in the parks right around the school. Like it really it helped clean it up. So that was kind of interesting talking to him. Um um this is kind of like a basic timeline. I guess
we want to move um fairly slow especially because there's snow outside now and you can't really do much there. But um we've been we've all started tracking water flow and where it floods in GIS just to kind of get an idea of where it would be make the most sense to install the baskets. Um we put up a temporary course when weather allows it to invite as many kids out and community members out to try it as possible to make sure that basket placement is in the right idea places. Doesn't impede in soccer, doesn't impede in flow of traffic or anything else like that. Um but yeah, that's just kind of like what we're thinking. Um and that's kind of where we've covered in what week and a half, two weeks. >> Yeah, we move
kind of fast. People are very eager to talk and answer questions on the state on the city level and other people we've reached out to. So yeah, I know I went with a lot, but we are here for questions as well. >> I will That's a fantastic presentation. So, how did you and your classmates come up with this idea? When did you decide on disc golf? >> Um, well, it's very fun sport. You don't you don't need a [clears throat] you don't need a [snorts] It doesn't require any uh gear or anything. It's very easy sport to play. Just need a couple of discs and Yeah. I forgot to mention that um I've reached out to a couple manufacturers and MVP which is based out of Michigan has already sent us 30 discs just in
case it happens. And um Michigan Pro Shop in um Walker is also basically just waiting to see if we do it because then he said he can also donate things as well. So when we say it's fairly cheap, it it can be fairly cheap because we have most of what we would need to do it already. Other questions? >> My only question would be on T1 and T2. Is that a it crosses a road? Is that a >> road traveled? >> That that crosses the in and out of the school. Um it is only traveled at drop off and after school. It's not like >> and all these locations are very much like we haven't even tested them yet. It's just proposed. We have no idea if these are going to be good locations yet
or not. I just found out from the city where we can and can't actually do it. So like I think even two and three would have to move because I think those are too close from the road. It has to be like 100 feet from the road. >> Makes sense. Do you have a budget in terms of how much she would cost to do one basket? >> Um the rough budget for everything. This is without I haven't reached out to any companies to see what it would be at pour concrete and that sort of thing. Um nine it's about it would be roughly about $5,000 is my estimate which is significantly lower than what a regular nine-hole course would cost. It's eight or 9,000 which GIS through the athletic we would have what we would
need by the time we would be potentially ready to purchase other questions. Well tell your classmates you guys did a very wonderful job. You did a fantastic job presenting to us tonight. So, job well done to you. >> I brought him, right? [laughter] >> Yeah. >> So, we we look forward to continuing talking about this and I I think we got a lot of positive um comments back. So, we look forward to see what next steps we got here. >> And you'll keep us informed as you >> Absolutely. As soon as the weather is nicer, we can >> supposed to be in the 60s this weekend. Come on. >> That's true. That's true. Maybe this weekend. >> Thanks, guys. >> Thank you. Thank you. All right. And moving to our last discussion item was our
uh our book club which is uh the board policy second reading. Um so much thanks to uh Terry. She did send us all the um the old policy so that we could try to use as a comparison. Um I got past the first one but no uh so like we all said last time there is a lot there. There's a tremendous amount there and it is not feasible to sit there and say we're going to read every policy word for word. Um I think the the ask was is that we try to pick various ones and just see and see if anything sticks out as being concerning that maybe it's not going the the direction we thought it was. So, as this this is our second opportunity to discuss this before we hope to vote
on it in December. So, just looking for input from board members here. >> There was one question I had that it's not really related to whether it's a good policy or not. Um, with Neil's updates, so the very last policy states that World War I veterans can get a high school diploma and it's a 2008 policy. The last veteran died in 2012. So, I'm kind of curious how often do they really update because I I don't know why we'd be offering World War One vets diplomas in our policy. I mean, are they actually updating regularly or does some of them just kind of sit there unless >> I think that's just that that is a state law. >> It's a state law. I think that they will continue to honor that. But I you make
a fair point. I mean, there's probably none still with us. >> So, those that are those those policies that are state laws even, you know, they'll stay there. There are a number of them as we were going through that haven't been updated since a couple of 96 or because they were law and the law hasn't changed. So, these do reflect what's on the books. Um, one thing that I know Mr. talked about last time is that no policy is is such that the board could not decide to change or to discuss or or to change it whether once it's once it's adopted. It's not like it's adopted and it is adopted forever. Um as things arise and and the board sees the need to change those um it's it's just a matter of the board
um doing that. So, I think in that example, we can choose to do something different we want. I mean, it's a fair it's a fair question because you're right. I mean, it's the law needs to be updated. >> I was just surprised it said copyright 2008. I'm okay. So, did they just let it sit there from 2008 on? Did they >> Yeah. >> Was it because the state required it or they really only updating something if it's pressed upon them? >> It's probably one of those obscure ones that they're just not even thinking about. >> Yeah, I mean I I will say I have not read them all and will not have the ability to read them all nor I think any one of us would in this period of time but I mean nothing
jumped out at me. I mean kind of like we said last time we we hired a reputable organization that is used by the vast majority of all districts in the state. the the our internal team that did it um did a excellent job because they did get to read every single policy. Um so and and those are the people that we put in place to represent us. So um you know we have faith in those leaders uh to do the job well. So um I would say we just continue to peruse them. uh we have a month for we would like to vote on these. So I think it's like it's it's trust but verify you know so audit audit different things pick and choose and have a good cup of coffee next year or
something or a monster or something but anything else on that? Okay. So, with that, that brings us to closing items tonight and any miscellaneous uh administrative items. >> The next board meeting will be Monday, December 9th at 6 p.m. >> 8th. Sorry. Thank you. I need to adjust my B my progressives when I look at this. Yes. The >> December 8th. Okay. >> Um, anything from the board tonight? So I will say board members, you will be receiving from me uh the annual superintendent evaluation. So I will send that out. Um so do plan for an executive session after our next meeting as we will do our final review of that. Um and with Mr. Deoce. So it is the same format it has been every other year. So we will use the state rubric
on that based off of the corporation goals and Mr. Deoce's goals. So you will have that. You can then send it back to me for full tabulation and then we will uh do our end of year review on that. Just please be aware of that. Um you'll have it by the end of the week. So >> I did have one question. I don't know if this is something that really I guess could wait till Mr. boys back. But um so I use AI a lot at work >> and one of the things we as a company have been trying to do is to increase our efficiency by incorporating AI throughout our systems and just managing information and details and our processes reviewing how we as a company have done stuff in the past compared to
what options are here now. Do we have anybody or any uh not really what do I want to call it? I'm missing the term like a group of people, not a not a board um committee that's that's looking at the the way the school system operates as we are going into a time of tighter finances to say how can we cut down maybe on the number of manh hours, the amount of effort that goes into things where systems might be from old technology. >> Is that being looked at? >> It is. it's not being used and and actually AI AI is used quite a bit with as we as we do a lot of the research and some of those time things it's used in the classroom. Um I don't necessarily know that it's being
used quite in the way you're you're stating but I I know there's I know there's another training coming up from the Northern Indiana Educational Service Center about use of AI kind of related to not only just instruction but how do you use it in in facilities? How do you how do you use it in how how throughout the district and we do have we do have staff members that are attending those but we do not have a formal committee. >> I know that Mr. D recently we just talked about it a little bit that he is interested in getting a committee together and he even talked about maybe our team together and just really having to think out five to 10 years and the impact of AI. >> So I know it's on his mind
>> and I'll ask because you you brought it up I think it's it's a good topic. Are we as a district with AI is being used. There's no question it's being used, but are we protecting what we're putting in there? Because a lot of it, we got to make sure our stuff is secure, >> right? Well, you put that in there, it's now not secure anymore. So, are we looking at policies to make sure we are using it responsibly? And maybe what platforms we're allowed to use and not use. Um, I I know in in the industry I'm in, it's something that's seriously being looked at and there's some platforms that are refused to be used because it's not believed to be secure. So, just something to think about and I would say our technology
department, you know, probably is one of the one of the ones that is are most concerned about that. Um, we do we do have very strong cyber security. Um, we meet bimonthly or twice a month with a with a company who kind of helps us monitor all those things giving us, you know, kind of making sure we're updated our and our, you know, not only our software, but our hardware, but also our the policies that we use such as this. And so they sometimes make recommendations because >> uh cyber security is also one of the fastest um parts of our insurance that is is rising. You know, we do have cyber security insurance and that is one of the ones that uh those premiums are going up very quickly. >> I will We'll we'll bring
this up to Mr. Deo when >> it's here. We're using it. We got [laughter] Yeah, >> I know at some of the uh the conferences we've been to, I've gone to a couple of their AI ones and they have recommendations on policies. I haven't seen that in the new policies yet. >> I might I might have missed the section. >> There's a little bit about AI in there, but it's it's not to the extent that that you you're describing. Um there might be in some future updates. I know there, you know, we've we've talked about, you know, North Vernon has a has a chatbot for for their administrators where it has access to all their policies, um, handbooks and things. And so if they if someone asks a ask a question, it will give an
answer saying, "Hey, here's where you can find this or here's what according to the policies we have and past practices we've done, here's what you know, maybe it's an HR piece, here's how it should be handled or something like that." >> That's actually their own way of Yeah. of cutting down listed hours. Yeah. >> So I know we have been that that I know Mr. De was you know very impressed that by that how can we how can we develop something like that also especially now that we have our new updated policies anything else discussion well with that I will take a motion and a second for adjournment motion for >> moved by Mr. Gri second by Mr. Gerber. All in favor please say I. I we are adjourned. Thank you all. Please be safe
where you're driving this evening.
