Give something good to look forward to. Um, I'd also like to say thank you to facilities Freddy's usually here, the facility team. Um, right after Christmas, we had big snow storm and we had a facility team out there clearing the way. Unfortunately, had to cancel some of the sport events on Saturday, but it was for safety reasons and everyone was able to enjoy the Winterland. I'd also like to congratulate the CarPlay Girls basketball team that won the Holiday Invitational tournament. That's a
great thing. Congratulations car place girls basketball team. Lastly, um, I would like to welcome one of our retired former car place physical education teacher and gymnastic coach. Mrs. Schneider has, I think she's you, you started Car Place in 1967 and I went to visit her this past summer to hand her her 30 year service pin. And I'm wearing it and she's wearing it. And my frog ear. So there's something to be said about our special town. We have many intergeneration that stay here for the community, for the education and the inspiration of our teachers. Mr. Sno was one who coached, am only speaking for myself 'cause I am a former gymnast. But she was able to coach me to, to a skillset that I never ever imagined that reached high heights. And it built for
me, um, heavy gr high resiliency and added to the success of my career. So I thank you. So I just want you to stand and welcome Well for many of your rest of your years of retirement with all the baby and, and us visiting you. Thank you. I'll hand it over to Vice President Den. Um, happy New Year everybody. Um, thank you for coming this evening. And, uh, this is s it's very nice to meet you about, good things about you. And, um, I didn't do gymnastics, but I'm sure did a good job coaching the girls in that. Um, the UPK survey is available, they un submit on our website until January 16th for those that are interested. And the final performing art department is seeking nominations for their seven induction ceremony, which we, which
will be held on April 29th. A nomination is, must be completed using the online form, which closes on Friday, February 13th. Um, council, I'm gonna turn it over to Larry. Thank You, trustee. Good evening. Thank you all for coming. I hope everyone wonderful holiday and break from school and wish all a healthy and happy New Year pass along to trust healthy, Uh, in similar fashion. Happy New Year. It's great to see everybody again. Um, I, I, I just, I figured I'd share, uh, just a quick anecdote. Our 5-year-old Alice is very excited, um, that she has been working very hard in her reading her hard words. We've been really, really at this and over the break. Huge stride for me. She's, she's been taking on her us on her little excited journey, like the relief
in every word that she says correctly. So I wanna share that and give a shot. Mr was amazing. She's good about, you know, connecting those of those dots. So I figured, uh, sharing that. Thank you. Good afternoon. Good evening everybody. I wanted to, um, say afternoon here and welcome back to this 2026. I'm nervous 'cause Miss Shenar is here and she was my, uh, coach for gymnastics from the time I was in seventh grade through 12th. Amazing to say the least practice sometimes seven days a week, which is great. Um, I wanted to shout out to Jen, congratulations on your name for, uh, executive director, uh, technology promotion, type of promotion, I guess title change, um, and got it. Little nervous, but sorry. Evening everyone. I hope everyone had a great holiday season. Prior to
our holiday break, the CarPlay student Organization successfully hosted our annual holiday spirit building segment. Leading to the break spirit, we concluded a cookie contest towards contest. And on December 23rd to retreat the hot chocolate cookies as a bested way to kick off holiday recess. Additionally, our high school winter concert took place on December 17th. Tomorrow January 9th, the guidance department will be hosting Alumni Day during this event, car Place alumni will speak with current students about the transition from high school to college, offer advice and answer any questions. Students are navigating to prepare for midterm exams, which will start on Tuesday, January 20th. This will also mark the inclusion of the second quarter through the year. Looking ahead, our second annual January, June basketball will take place on Friday sixth at 7:00 PM with the
Pep Rally Health Program students. Thank you. Thank you. We'll now hear comments from Dr. Thank you Madam President. So happy New Year everyone and all our folks at home. Um, few things to note. Rush for musical is going to happen on the 23rd and 24th. Tickets are probably sold out at this point. Is that correct? Crystal Mo? Uh, there's a few seats left on Saturday after this. Get 'em while they're, get 'em while they're Gable and it's gonna be a really fun event. Rushmore puts on a great performance. It's a lot of love, fun. Parent University is happening on January 29th. We have a full slate of talent from Parenting University. We're going to send out notice to start registering in the next day or two. It's going to be a lot of fun. Our
theme this year was formed by students. We surveyed students in grades five through 12. Over 400 students responded about things they want their parents to know about. And the crux of Parent University really is what our kids care about and what they care about for you, their parents. Um, please, please make sure to check that out. We'd love to see as many people that we can possibly have come to Perry University. Some really nice student things to talk about. Um, our very own, any Cornell and Megan Rice earned all State honors for Field Hockey. Two great athletes and two really, really good citizens of Carl Play Schools. Um, our very young Ryan Leary earned first team all state football honors, also a wonderful achievement. And Joe Bino All State Football, honorable mention to a major
accomplishment I watched. I've watched all of them play throughout the year. They play hard. They're good people and they're a credit to our school and to their families, which is really cool. Um, as Lucas said, midterms are coming up. Study. If you're watching from home, hit the books. Stay on that. Students are working really hard, they're doing really well. If we want to see that moms and dads, please encourage your kids to be ready for midterms and for re exams again in, uh, January of this month. I also want to say congratulations, comm, thank you for being here. It was a pleasure to meet you today. I love to meet people who helped make the history of our school district. Um, it gives us something to measure up to. It reminds us why we're here
and reminds us of what the strength of Coral Place can be. It's a really important thing. It's a genuine pleasure for real. And, and there's one other thing that I wanna say very important, um, particularly to the folks at home. And that has to do with driving onto Canvas. My office happens to look right out the window. So I see folks at arrival and dismissal and I watch every day today. I happen to count several people, drive down the driveway looking at their phones, sometimes even typing on their phones as they drive. I saw one car with an Unstrained child in the front seat and the parent on the phone, please put the cell phone away when you drive onto the campus and let's keep children restrained. The last thing you want is, is for
an accident to happen anywhere, but particularly on campus. There are kids out there, there are adults out there, plus your own family in the car. Um, you know, I hate to end on a bad note, but it's an important thing. We love our kids and we love our families and we want everybody to be safe. So, you know, thank you for that and I appreciate the opportunity. Madam President. Thank you. Thank you. Dr. Are there any comments from the public on agenda items? Alite? Okay, since there are no comments, we'll continue with the business meeting. We'll have, we'll start with the presentation of the work based learning update and that will be presented by Dr. Perry. So I'd like to say thank you to the board for the opportunity to speak tonight. And thank you
for everybody else for being here. And to the folks at home, I wanna let you know that I am presenting tonight on behalf of Natalie Zain, our work based learning coordinator. You know that the blue is going around and Natalie is really, really not feeling well. She, I said to her, please, please rest. I will take care of this. So that's what we're doing. Um, again, thank you to the board for this chance to update on work based learning. We had our first presentation a few months ago. Work based learning is moving right along here in schools. And as we always do, We start with our mission and vision. And in this particular case, work case learning really connects to two parts of our mission and vision. It's about inspiring excellence and working collaboratively. That
means working collaboratively with the administration and the teachers here in our school. Working together with providers in the community, medical providers, business providers, attorneys folks who really want to give back by hosting our students for job shadowing or internships. Um, and active learning and agency within between. And in this case, beyond the classroom. A lot of really good things are happening with that. The high school administration guidance, our business department, MS has been tremendously helpful in coordinating with Natalie and with me as well. So there are some really good things, um, happening there. This quote is a traditional quote. It's not really attributed to any one person in particular. Tell, tell me and I forget, teach me. And I remember, involve me and I learn that's what work-based learning is all about because it is
a very involved hands-on experience and we are progressing right along with that. Students are going to be learning hard skills. Some of them already are. They're going to learn soft skills, which are your people skills. And then also really building self-confidence in agency. The sense that I can right, that I am in charge of my own destiny, that I can have efficacy and agency can, you know, be in charge of my life. And we all wind up going into our career fields. What better place to start it than now. In our last presentation, we talked about our overall goals, supporting on time graduation, getting that real world experience. Now before you go to college, it's a very important thing. Title CDOs credentials are part of the, um, career readiness standards that New York State expects
of students. Having partnerships with local businesses and community leaders. That's something that the board challenged us to do. It's important to us, it's important to the community, therefore we are doing it. And to have an employer partner database building those contacts, it's something that Ms. Ian has really been working on. She and I have made good contacts with people. I had a few teed up for her before she got here. She has made a whole bunch more on her own. So where are we right now? We are in the midst of stages two and three because they overlap with each other. It's about community and employer outreach right now. Getting kids prepared and implementing internships and job shadow that's happening as we speak. And like I said, those two things overlap with one another. We
look at what's happened so far this year. Um, the administration guidance has been super helpful in facilitating assemblies for the students. I've attended the assemblies too to see how they've been run. Ms. Edgin has a really nice rapport with students. She knows how to talk to them. The administration and guidance has also been helpful in making that connections. Mr. De Blassio and his guidance counselors, um, Mr. Or Ms. Can, Ms. Sullivan have really made good things happen. Ms. Fu, our business teacher, when I saw those kids asking questions and being brave enough to raise their hands and you know, put themselves forward for these opportunities, it was really great to see. Um, Luca as one of our seniors, I saw the senior piece, I saw the junior piece more in depth. And one of the
seniors actually came back to the junior session to talk about the internship experiences that she had already had. As the Anthony nodding your head, what a, what a wonderful young person. And she also helped make some connections. It's a great thing to see our students embracing this. Um, MS has been really working hard. She has picked up 15 additional additional connections herself and is working with them to get our students placed. Um, the parent outreach is important. We have a parent square notification that went out at the end of this presentation is a QR code and you'll see it on the screen and we'll post it that people can continue to respond. We have four businesses who are already fully committed with us. Another 11 who are in process. You have to remember that we
have minors here in school, right? They're seniors, they're very grown kids, but they're not 18 yet. So there's a lot of paperwork and assurances that have to get lined up. Four people already done 11 more in process. We've got things going, which is a great thing. Concrete connections that our students will take advantage of. What are the things that people are saying? You look at a couple of comments, two from students, one from adults, right? It's been smooth and easy. That's a great thing to know. 'cause sometimes kids are shy and they're worried that it's gonna be difficult. They're worried that, you know, this person that I get placed with isn't gonna like me. I'm self-conscious, smooth and easy to take part in this internship, working in a medical office and the doctor flexible working
with me, teaching me, giving me hands-on tasks to do. That's what we want. That's what this is all about. Another student saying thank you for helping me explore options. I started doing something that wasn't my original career choice, but I want to work on my other soft skills. One of the things that was exciting about that comment was a student who wanted to take a risk. Maybe I want to be an engineer, but there's an opportunity that's open for me in a law office. I'm gonna do that anyway because I'm still gonna learn how to talk with clients. I'm still going to learn how to talk to people who are going to be my superiors and train me up in my career. It says a lot about what they can do. It's a really, really
good thing. And then I think that adult comment, I'm here and willing to help CarPlay students in whatever way they need. The internship position could also lead to employment post high school. I happen to know who said that to somebody that I had made contact with myself early on. And like all of the folks that Ms. Edgin has made contact with, they want to help us. They want to reach out to us. And it's good to see that happen and it makes us feel really good about what we're doing. So what comes next? We have to continue pushing on this 'cause we want to get more and more students placed, um, targeted outreach to students based on interest. And we had a meeting in my office with the administration and guidance and ms. Our business
teacher. We're at the point now where several of our kids who are in virtual enterprise, um, and DECA are going to go through the placement process, continuing to work with the partners who are in process for us and finding ourselves new partners, parent university. We mentioned that in our announcements. MS is doing a special session for parents at parent university. Even if your children aren't in high school yet, we want you to come and be a part of that. We want you to learn about what this is. And sometimes mom and dad at home can be so helpful in giving that gentle push or maybe a little bit of a harder push to get our students, you know, to get our students going. And what's a challenge? A challenge for us is sort of similar
to what we experienced in things like the push and pull between athletics and performance. We have a small largely over-scheduled group of students right after winter sports. We have a little bit of a break. We're gonna push really hard again to grab a few more kids because sometimes when they're balancing between do I stick with my team or do they do, do I do this internship or take a couple days for a job shadow? They tend to pick their teams because they're loyal to their friends. But we want to really, really push them in this direction because it is the thing that's going to carry em forward. Not that you should abandon the team or anything like that. And we're also working with some trades because of the nature of building trades, you have to
be 18, right? These kids are for the most part, not 18. We're trying to work on some creative ways so that a minor can do some work in a field they want so that they get exposure there too. And we will find those alternative exposures, right? It's part of our mission to do that. So if you're part of the family at home, how can you help? Definitely come to the parent university session. That registration is about to go out. Talk with your kids about work-based learning at home. If you have an eighth grader or older, have that conversation with them. They can come and see MS engineer in the office, right? We want them to come and see us. We want them to connect with us and we will also reach out to them. Um,
remind your child to keep an appointment, right? Sometimes distractions happen, sometimes I get a little bit shy and maybe I'm worried about going keep that appointment. What a lovely student-centered person MS is, will absolutely help make things happen and encourage kids to be open to other avenues. Maybe not want to be an engineer, but there's something in a lawyer's office or a retail setting. You are still going to learn skills that will be really important for you when you go out into the workforce. And any experience is better than no experience. That's a bed, a bedrock thing, right? Like how do I find a job without experience? How do we get experience without a job? Internships, job shadowing. It's the first step. It's an important step and we're ready to make that happen. So if
there are questions or comments, now is the time that QR code is for parents. If you want to take that QR code, we still check to see who else has responded. We shall still check to see what questions you have and what you have to say. I'll say thank you again to the board and any questions that we might have. Yes. Um, the update was very helpful. A one of the key areas that you pointed out, which is lacking in students today is a soft skills in a professional environment and arena. So, so this mock up of an environment to train them is very helpful. I also had a question. So I know that we have clubs like for example, just arbitrary club that tech. So now is there any bridging from WBL going to
the club meetings to start talking about different facets of, for example, the health industry That that's one of the places where students have expressed a lot of interest. Is that right Mr. Corey? Is that in, in kids who are interested in medical technology or the medical field have been some of the ones who I think been front and center talking with about it. So yes, there is interplay between, um, our virtual enterprise students and Ms. Edge is another place where there's good interplay. The spoof Fest was super, um, receptive to that when we had that conversation. And you know, in my, my, I talk to Ms. Edge a lot, we have a formal meeting every other week together and that's another one of the places where overlap is not. Okay, thank you. Cool. Just comments.
Thank you Dr. Kelly. Uh, this session, hopefully she feels better soon too, but just to get this off the ground, it's really not easy, but there's so much value in it. Um, I see this on a very regular basis, my my day job. Um, but just the confidence it instills its experience. Like this is one of the more notable things and taking that back to whether it is athletics or academics, the arts, what have you. Um, and there are plenty of relationships to a lot of the other things. And it's this type of, of projects type of, uh, program grows. You'll start to see it's, it's technicals for lack of a better word in all of those, those areas. So thank you for that and thanks to our local business industry partners for, um, being
partners in this because that's, that is a critical part, uh, uh, uh, getting this done and if there are others, but thank you to those who are already participating. But if there are others, please don't, don't be shy. Uh, and, you know, start a conversation about, you know, developing, um, that, that type of relationship with those two. So You bring up a good point. 'cause it can really be any kind of business. It doesn't need to be a large corporate setting. It doesn't need to be Northwell Health. You know, one of our most, one of our most helpful partners, two people I can think of, one is a local accountant and you know, this person was front and center about bringing kids into, into the work. And another is a graduate of the school district
who founded his own HVAC company and, and wanted to help kids. Neither of those are gigantic operations. They're carless people who said, Hey, I have a business I can help. It's a, it's a really great thing. There's almost nothing that's too small, Right? Absolutely right. Can't stress that motion. So thank I appreciate it. Now for the approval of the consent agenda, may I have a motion to approve the consent agenda? Second. Second. All in favor? Aye. All are approved for the consent agenda. Are there any questions or comments from the public regarding the agenda? The agenda regarding anything but the agenda? Now? I am now going to close the public session. Can I have a motion to close the public session? All in favor? Aye. We are adjourned. Thank you very much.
