board meeting minutes. Upon the recommendation of the superintendent to approve the April 27th, 2026 special board meeting minutes. >> Any questions on the April 27 special meeting? All in favor? Any >> oppos? Back to you. Anybody signing in? um elementary school update. >> Hello from the audience. Over the past two weeks at Jennese Elementary, there's been a lot to celebrate. Our PTSA kindness challenge was an incredible success with 210 out of our 390 students earning cookie blankets through their commitment to spreading kindness both in school and online. together community raised $15,915. Um, so after the 35% fundraising cost, this is going to return approximately $10,300 to our PTSA to support student driven projects. Um, what I love most is what's happening right now, which is where students are writing letters to share what they believe

our school needs and why. It's a powerful way to build voice, ownership, and leadership. Any questions on that? >> Congratulations. I >> think we're going to hire them in recovery. >> Um, we also wrapped up another year of the American Heart Association's healthy heart challenge and PE reinforcing the importance of heart health and active lifestyles. In addition, our K through five swimming unit is underway. more than just a PE experience about safety, confidence, ensuring every child has access to a life skill that can make a difference. Last week, we had our annual second grade job fair, which is always a joy. Um, I thought I might share a letter from a student who came to the session and wanted to become a principal. Dear Miss New, thank you for the donuts. I liked it when

we got to solve problem two problems. I learned that it's really hard to solve problems. >> I gave them real life problems. So, what happens when >> Yeah. We have room on the board. >> Yeah. That was great. Um and then academically, we continue with New York State math assessments. We begin our kindergarten screening this week. Um which are both important components in understanding and supporting student growth across all levels. And then I just like to close with a sincere thank you to all of our teachers and our pair professionals and staff um across the district uh as it is staff appreciation week uh this week and we're so grateful to have all of her dedication and support. >> Great report. Thank you. >> I didn't get any letters for my side. >> So I

have to remember the donuts. Yeah. >> Well the checklist there's three things. Number one, you always start your day with Tim Hortons. So, I had my Tim Hortons coffee together Horton's donuts. Number two, you spread kindness. So, we wrote letters as they were principles. Uh they wrote go blue cards to staff members and um they gave the best one to Miss Hensler and she they said um you know you congratulations on showing grit. You've been teaching for three years and you haven't quit. That was great. And then the third part was I said we have to solve a problem. And then I presented some real life problems that as principles we face um you know with student conflicts and so forth and they went through the step-by-step process. I have to say it was like

really really closely aligned to what we do. Um and I thought that was a really nice um insight in inside look at uh the work that we're putting in both in restoring and also you know that there's some natural consequences that come along with decisions that are made. So >> well said. Well done. >> Presentation notes with no administrative updates. >> You okay? >> Uh I'm going to start with some pretty cool celebrations. Um our very own Jonah Levy, who is now able to be here tonight. Um, very pleased to announce that Jonah has been awarded an opportunity to work at the laboratory for laser energetics at the University of Rochester during a six-w week period this summer. This is a highly competitive program in which students are paid to do authentic research at a

world-class facility. In fact, this lab is where several Nobel Prize winning experiments have been conducted. At the end of the six week period, the students present their findings during a symposium to their peers and the professional staff at the university. Pretty phenomenal. So, congratulations to Jonah. >> When he's back at the next meeting, we'll congratulate him again. But if you see him, definitely give him a huge pat on the back. He deserves it. Um, around the National Merit Scholarship, we have Natalie Cable and Zachary Strugel been recognized as commended students in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their ex exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue, our two students will not continue in the 2026 competition for the National Merit Scholarship Awards. commended

students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2026 competition by taking the 2024 preliminary SAT national merit scholarship qualifying pass. Mouthful, but congratulations to Natalie and to Zachary. Uh quite an honor. Fantastic. Uh just a real quick capital improvement update. Everything is is running really smoothly. Everything's going well. Um the for extraction in the main gymnasiums taken a little bit longer than expected due to an immense amount of pins they found once that floor got ripped out. I think it was 5,500. Is that correct? >> 5500 pins that were secured to the concrete that needed to be extracted that you don't really know it's there until you know. >> Uh so they've been working on that. Um other than that, we're moving along safely and productively. Um, I just want to mention too,

the district's planned a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the kickoff of this project and all the hard work and planning coordination that has taken place over the last couple years. It will be on May 13th at 4 p.m. with the board of education and some community partners. So, we're looking forward to that. Hoping for some good weather. Um, terms of events, uh, heard the prom was a good, uh, great celebration over the weekend. Everything went well, but I'm sure Ally and Jonah will report a little bit more in detail on that. Like to thank the staff and administration for their planning and coordination. Everything went off without a hitch. Uh we also kicked off our spring concert series last week with our grades 4 through 12 band ensembles. It was amazing. They were incredible from beginning

to end. I always love the springtime concert because you can see the growth from the winter to the spring, but also I just love how we do it here with fourth grade all the way up through our high school bands. You can see uh the talent jump and you know as they get more practice and expertise. So fantastic concert. And then I just also wanted to reiterate what Christy said. Uh happy staff appreciation week to all of our staff members. Everyone, you know, thank you. It just seems like it's never enough. Uh it's hard work every day and people don't always realize that unless you work in a school, but um it's it's a very rewarding but challenging profession. Um and our staff deserve the very best and they put their heart, soul into everything

they do. So very proud of everyone and we're going to celebrate them throughout the week with a number of great activities and treats and one of them coming from you guys. So thank you. Thank you.
