I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. I'd like to ask for a consent motion for item 1.03 03 approval of the special board meeting agenda upon the recommendation of the superintendent to approve the March 23rd, 2026 special board meeting agenda. >> Second in favor? >> Okay. >> Item number two, new business. I'd like to ask for consent motion for item 2.01, approval of contract for the final CIP gymnasium floor extraction. Find the recommendation of the superintendent to approve the contract for the final capital improvement project gymnasium 4 extraction. >> Second. >> Okay. Before we vote, I'm going to just make a couple of comments here. The the amount for the gymnasium floor is $269,650. Uh this is remediation of the existing floor and replacement. It's the final piece of the
overall capital project with that. Mike, anything you want to add? >> No, just uh so the public's aware and I think it's been said all along the uh the reason why this was separate is because of the mercury abatement and um some further testing needed to be done because the cost of the removal of the materials is dependent upon the concentration of mercury within the materials. And so they wanted to keep that separate so that certain bids weren't inflated just to make sure we covered the cost. And when the testing had concluded um we did that that bid separately. So that's why that's a standalone for this. >> Yep. >> Yeah. We had pre previously approved everything else. So this is the final piece. Uh with that said, I am going to before we vote,
I just want to open it up. John, can anybody online talk or are they >> um not as set up right now, but I can enable their mics if they want. >> Could you I think it's just Frank and John online >> if you if they have any comments and then Max and uh Steve if you have any comments, questions, thoughts, anything we can clarify, I would uh offer a thought opened up. So this this is just for the approval of the removing of the removal of the floor. >> Yeah, it's the remediation. >> Yep. >> The removal of the floor and eventual replacement >> on the new floor. >> Okay. So I guess I mean I I think I had questions, but I I don't think it's necessarily about that part of the project.
So >> that's okay. This is I'll open it. >> Okay. No, I'm just curious about timeline of everything. Like when does this start? When does it end? That's I think my I anticipated that question. >> Yeah, I can I can go into that a little bit. Um, so we're looking to break ground April 1st of this year. Um, everything's in line and the timeline would be from April 1st to closing out the project right at the end of 2027. The the hope is December of 2027. Um, of course, there's a lot of final things that need to take place where inspections and buttoning up the project. there's always last minute things to do. Uh so the timeline for the complete close out of the project would be March of 2028 and we have multiple different
phases going on. Uh the gym being the most massive part of the project will start on April 1st and that will take the entire duration from demolition and rebuilding from the ground up. That'll go from April 1st all the way to December 2027. And then the other major portions of the project are going to be safety upgrades in the uh main area of the entry which that'll start in the summer of well right at the end of the school year of 2027. We're looking at renovating some classrooms to bring in our prek that'll also start around May to June of 2027. Um, and then there'll be some different uh auditoriums right around that time, too. Uh, so we're just doing some infrastructure work, some HVAC replacements and things like that. So, all of those are
going to be spaced along that timeline. But it is so just coming right up here, April 1st all the way through the end of the year in 2027. >> Some thoughts around during that construction phase, obviously the the gym we completed, it will be used the attendance is a little will take less people. So, we'll have to figure out how to handle the the overflows. There's some thoughts relative to uh potentially streaming into other rooms. I'm not sure how that may come, but >> so the plan is to use that as a varsity gym during that time. >> Yeah, it's difficult to to coordinate and schedule with the college and other places, but if necessary, it may happen. >> Okay. I wouldn't rule it out, but I will say it's challenging to say the least.
Um, during the front entry construction phase, there's a couple of other entrances during that phase. So, how people enter the building will be lots of signs. Pardon our dust, you know. >> Yeah. >> What about all the practices? There's now we're down one gym. So, we have a lot of youth teams and >> um I know they used the Christian school for a while. >> Um so, I don't I don't know if is there a plan in place to like try to get practices for all these kids and everything? >> Yeah, I mean it's obviously there's going to be a capacity issue. So, we're going to work within our athletic teams and scheduling. We're going to have to get very creative on space. Um, and then community groups will work in as much as we
possibly can, but you know, there's going to have to be an understanding of flexibility to to be looking for other spaces. And we'll get that out in a communication as soon as we have the plan. Like Mike said, um, we hope to use that other gymnasium as much as we possibly can, but the reality is we're not going to be able to fit in like during the winter sports season when basketball's in there. You know, modified JV varsity on both the boys and the girls side. So, we are looking at other venues. Of course, looking at other school districts isn't going to solve the problem because they're going to have a spacious issue as well. Um, so we are looking into Craig Be's been in contact with um other places. Sunni Genio could be an
option as well. >> So, I do know I mean you certainly know folks at the Christian school. So, maybe that's yeah >> an a good option at least for practice. And have we tried to contact college for games or I I know that's uh not easy but um >> we've been in talks with them. Okay. Um but I know that's a heavily soughtafter space as well and I think we're waiting on final schedules to be out from Sunni Jio as well and see where we can sneak in from there. >> I know I personally talked to George. Okay. So more to follow on those but some final details yet to be worked out but we're getting closer I think. Okay. Other questions? Thanks. >> I I make a a comment and a request. Mike, I
think since since you took over like in the last year or two, it's been so gratifying the improvements in communication. School communicates better, the district communicates better. It's a lot more transparent with this. I would encourage that to continue. >> And so any sort of news, this is what we're planning for these upcoming >> gym semesters. what we're planning for these upcoming classes and even if it's just we don't have a plan today, you know, this month, >> but we're working on that's that's an update, too. So, I would just encourage you so that we don't like >> Yeah. >> work is going to be doing. >> Yeah. Thank you. Uh actually, we have a meeting on the calendar, I believe, tomorrow. We're uh we're we've already been talking about a communication plan internally and
and externally. Uh we have some things in motion right now, but we're meeting tomorrow to finalize all those talking points and try to get something out to the community um right before it starts. So phasing options um or phasing timelines and looking at different options for you know the use of our venue in in many different sports seasons. So we're going to be communicating that along the way. We've also started to revise our capital improvement project page within our website. So, there'll be a lot of updates and information in the next couple weeks up on the website. Yep. And and we'll do communications out to the district through Parent Square and on social media um all along the way to show the updates and any changes that we have to our timelines. So, we're going
to our goal is to be as transparent and communicative as possible >> and to push it out push out the information. >> Push out the information. >> Yeah. >> Great. Thank you. There there's some basic things that I think we I know we're getting closer on, but I I still hold a little bit of concern with construction vehicles coming in and students on campus and the traffic flow. So, we've got some things to to clean up a little bit there. But, >> so I guess I just have another question and of a lot of my questions are about sports and I apologize for that, but um what are like other teams are they going to want to come in and play in that small gym? Will we have a problem with other teams saying, "Well,
we're not going to schedule you for a home game." It's a good question. I don't know the answer to that. >> I haven't heard that from anyone. I'm not sure how, you know, there's been discussions within between the athletic directors around that. I could definitely look into it. >> Yeah, because I mean, maybe the teams aren't aware of it and then we start a season and then they're like, "Well, we can't get enough fans there. We don't want to play there." I don't know if that would be an issue or not, but >> yeah, it's a great point. Thank you. Not aware of that, but I'll Okay, >> we'll definitely look at that. >> Anything from John or or Frank online or anybody else? If there's >> No, all right. >> No, I'm good. I
Steve was asking the things I was thinking, so we're good. >> Okay, great. Thank you. others. >> I I was comment that we're we're in a better situation at least having a competition size gym here this time around. >> Um it was a nightmare having to send, you know, for an entire season of volleyball that they were on the road for all of their competitions. So, you know, it's uh it's certainly not ideal to have the, you know, the smaller van capacity, but the game could at least be better. But, um, >> good point. >> Might have to limit the number of fans, >> but for things like senior night, you know, if we could plan for a larger venue locally, that would be >> okay. >> Ideal. >> Good. What does that gym hold?
>> It's very small capacity. >> Yeah. >> I think the pool holds more. >> No, really. >> Yeah. >> I would say when when people show up to basketball games lately, it it is uh not even close to enough probably. So, >> yeah, basketball doesn't surprise me. I just wondered like for volleyball, you know, is it is it >> volleyball? There's enough there's >> I mean, I've been there for the um modified basketball games and it's still for >> mod. Yeah, people are standing in the doorways. >> Yeah, >> we will make we will find a motion and communicate. All right, with that, I'm going to call for a vote. All in favor? Any oppos? Okay. So moved with that >> item number three. Make a motion for adjournment at 5.3 million. >> All in
favor? >> I so move. Thanks. >> Thank you. for security.
